Well, you never hear their reasoning, when they just drop the chase, heh. It probably would be something silly like Ghostface from scary movie hiding behind the tree.
Im just saying, its not a common trope AT ALL unless your experience with slasher movies is something like this...

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1042318#Comment_1042318
This is false. It's actually a common trope for a slasher movie when killer abandons one victim to ambush another. And this is fine for a surv to have a plan, and its kinda part of your job to ruin it.
Which slasher movie are you watching where the killer goes "darn, the dumb blond is too fast, guess i'll go for the token black guy". Typically the killer always somehow gets each person alone because they always split up. Its just abunch of 1 v 1s with epic death scenes...cuz thats why we watch slasher movies. Epic death scenes.

I agree with you, I totally get why ruin was nerfed, although it could have been better to tell the players in advance why they would do it.
Id rather call it a change rather than a nerf. The perk is completely different now. Maybe they could do something to make the first gens more manageable. Maybe something along the lines of a 30 second gen lockdown at the beginning of the match to allow the killer to move from one side to the other and possibly start a chase before you have gens popping, or maybe it takes longer to do the first gen than it does for the 2nd.

I'll check it out!
But this post refers to the least the devs could do, or more of a fair way to nerf the two most used perk builds on each side (Or at least I think they are). You cant just heavily nerf the killer one without even looking at survivor one
The way the devs have worded it is they are going to be looking at gen times as a whole after this and possibly adjusting those. As they said, ruin has been acting to cover up the problem for awhile, so they kinda needed ruin out of the way to show them just how bad it is so they can work from there. That could mean a change in gen times, a change in toolboxes, ect. Personally, I wouldnt mind if DS gets looked at with all this so I dont get stunned for downing someone with 1 second left of their DS, even if they had teammates get unhooked after them. The amount of "possible DSes" that can be active at any given time is too much to keep track of at times.
-
Its funny, anymore I'm more active on the forums than the actual game. Been jumping into witcher 3 lately, which is fun although I play on the easiest difficulty setting... and now I'm gonna get reminded of why I dont play Overwatch no more.

I don't mind the safety pip, but I think like many things in DBD's ranking system, it just doesn't do what it was designed to do. The safety pip is supposed to indicate that you're at the right rank. You performed as expected for someone of your rank - you didn't do badly enough that the game thinks you should be ranked lower, but you didn't do well enough to demonstrate that you've improved. However, the safety pip is simply too easy to achieve a lot of the time. As the name implies, it's functionally a safety net, not an estimation of skill.
Part of the problem comes from the misconception with DBD that a lot of people have that if you didn't pip, you're doing something wrong. And I think the fact that players are shown their rank progression after each match has a big part to play in creating that mindset. There is no expectation in games like Overwatch that every player should be able to reach top ranks, but because pipping is so easy in DBD, and because people see themselves safety pipping or depipping and feel like it means they're bad, there is a general notion in DBD that anyone who isn't at top ranks is a bad player. And the safety pip is partially to blame for that, but I think the culture surrounding ranks is just as much of an issue.
and now I wanna play some Overwatch...

I agree, and I think Overwatch has the right idea. No algorithm is ever going to be able to account for all variables, so I personally feel that the only solution is to forget about the variables and base MMR solely on kills or escapes. Yes, you might get screwed over by RNG or bad teammates, but ultimately, if a player is good enough, they will win more often than not in spite of all that.
There are plenty of highly successful games, with a lot of variables involved and, in some cases, a lot of RNG - League, Overwatch, Hearthstone, to name a few - in which the MMR system is based purely on victories and defeats, and it still works perfectly well for that exact reason.
Feel like one of DBD's biggest problems with ranking is the safety pip. Often times, when you win you pip up, but when you lose... how often are you losing rank? Typically the only time people are only losing meaningful rank is during rank reset, which is where this whole rank doesnt equal skill but rather time played thing comes from. With Overwatch, im likely to gain a little bit of rank points and lose a little bit of rank points all night long. I could play for hours and only see a higher rank at the end of the night if I won more games than I lost. With dbd... thats not the case. You win, you rank up. You lose, that safety pip is there so you dont feel bad about it.
Thats why the majority of people who play Overwatch are playing in gold (a rather modest rank) while the majority of DBD's playerbase is at purple if not red. When you play a game of Overwatch, you're not gonna see a top 500 player smashing your gold game. When you play a game of DBD, you can very easily see the top players matched with the average ones who for some reason are the same exact rank because theres no rank further to go after red...which the majority of ppl are at.

I was talking about ranks in the comment you replied to, because that's what LordGlint was discussing in his story. So it was a natural assumption that when I said "rank is no indication of skill level" and you said "then why not let us see it", the "it" was referring to my mention of rank. So no need to go "ugh" as if I'm being really dense or something.
Also, I've explained to you already in that other thread why I think it's a bad idea to let players see the MMR rating. I don't need to repeat myself here.
Heres something to think about... As a former Overwatch player, alot of my thoughts and comparisons are to Overwatch. With THEIR MMR system, it doesnt really matter how well you personally did, just matters what the end result was. You couldve been a godly Widowmaker and had a super close game, but since your 5 teammates were afk in spawn the entire game and you couldnt QUITE 1 v 6 the whole match you lost and thus drop MMR. With all the variables in determining how well a player did...what if they just streamlined it by basing the system on a clear-cut win or lose. Did you survivor? Thats a win and heres a better rating. Did you solo 4 gens and still die? Well thats still a loss, lets drop that rating.
Ultimately a system isnt going to be able to determine every variable in seeing just how well someone played. I could camp every pallet on the map and not try to loop anything and a system that is only looking at chase time would see that I'm WAY better than the guy who went down due to not having anything left to work with since I left the map a giant dead zone.

If she played badly enough for you to think that, maybe she's not as good as she thought. Or maybe, as Archimedes suggested, she was playing badly on purpose, to make you think that she was worse than she was. Either way, she was playing badly, and the only reason her rank didn't reflect that is because, as we've established, the current ranking system doesn't reflect players' demonstrated skill level very accurately.
I wasnt trying to imply that she was a secret god or anything, but rather the likelihood that she kept running into killers like me that took pity on her and threw her out of the gates, lol.

Thats a valid tactic, isnt it? Hiding your real skill and making enemy underestimate you.
Without skill rating/ranks you would just think that you let someone go, while you actually got outplayed.
You never really know how good your enemies are...
If I'm tossing you into the hatch, it doesnt matter what rank you are. You didnt outplay me, lol.

Yet more proof, as if we needed it, that rank is no indication whatsoever of skill level 😋
I remember playing a game as Billy and just demolishing a team, but there was a baby Claudette that I felt bad for. I remember it being down to 2 people, so I was chasing her teammate and letting her live. I even kinda just gave her a nod to let her know I definitely saw her and didnt hit her on purpose when I was being looped around wretched shop. Endgame chat comes along and she was red ranked. Told me the whole thing made her husbands night (who was in her SWFs squad) because they knew I thought she was a baby survivor. Apparently a big reason why she got so high in ranks is because...so many killers took pity on her.
-
@Fibijean said:
Surely anyone with any game knowledge whatsoever can tell another player's skill just by playing with or against them. The only people who should need an arbitrary number to know what another player's skill level is are those who are too new to worry about it.
You say that, but you have no idea how many survivors I take pity on because I assume theyre newbies who got brought in by their SWF buddies, only to findout that the baby dwight that I gave hatch to was actually red ranked...
-
2 gens popping at the beginning of the match doesnt mean much. At the beginning, the killer has no map pressure yet. Just because gens can pop so fast THEN, doesnt mean they will continue to pop at that speed. Once the killer manages to start injuring and downing ppl, that forces the survivors to start doing other things, like unhooking and healing, which slows the game down drastically.Ultimately the only generator that means anything is the last one.
Personally, even after the ruin changes, I've been able to do quite well using NEW ruin on Mikey. I think thats saying something since Myers has the worst start in the game and is forced to try to find his first survivor while moving at 105% speed.
Excuse the chat, I only typically save screenshots of salty chats as opposed to trying to commemorate every 4k I get.

We're probably just gonna have to wait til they release something on the PTB for anymore info on this. It sounds like for the time being, they only have the most base idea of what they want to do, and haven't actually flushed out much yet. Their comment on ranking killers different though would be nice, because frankly... I might play like a rank 3 Myers atm, but if I swap to Nurse, your gonna see some rank 27 gameplay, lol.

Ive been saying this for awhile even before the ruin change, lol. I was running a build without any gen slowdown perks on Bubba afew months ago and just focused on being as aggressive as possible.
Resulted in fairly quick games. Sometimes I lost, sometimes I won. Either way was pretty fun though.
-
From my experience, new ruin is actually pretty useful. I wasnt really expecting it to be as handy as it has been, but glad I gave it a shot. Been running it surprisingly well on Legion lately (which I'm by far not a Legion main, lol), but also been having alot of success on Myers with it. Since I can see with surveillance the exact moment a survivor leaves a gen or hops on one, it makes hit and run tactics work really well. The big thing is to avoid spending too much time chasng one person when you see someone hopped on a gen that you can protect.

the first one is unlikely tho. if they have DS, they will likely use it as soon as they can, so after the 2nd hook - if you tunnel - it should be gone already. you could use the mori as a feeepass to tunnel someone, though that'd only be able after the 2nd hook, so you'd have to play normal beforehand and basically ignore them as long as their DS is up the first time, so it wouldnt really be all that gamechanging.
the hook is also not a big thing, yeah you have one sacrifice hook more, but thats not really gonna benefit you all that much. still not worth using an ultra rare offering for that.
but yeah, the animations are cool.
imo the whole "it should work after 2 hooks" solution is not working out. it feels cheap (we literally just increase a number by one) and it would render the offerings completely useless. there really is no reason why that shouldnt just be basekit for every killer, honestly.
imo, if we're gonna nerf mories, we should completely rework their activation condition or add something new to them.
ive had the idea to make them obsession based, so you cant actively decide who to kill after they have been hooked once, the mori decides that for you. hook the obsession, down them a 2nd time, mori, get a new obsession. inbetween no one gets killed by the killers hand (ebony mori idea - ivory can honestly stay the way it is imo)
I can just imagine the surge of people running Nemesis for that, lol. I've gotten Rancor to allow me to mori multiple people because of Nemesis before, so I'd imagine it would be similar.
-
When I first tried playing survivor, only to get gengrabbed by a Spirit using old prayerbeads. I had like PTSD after that everytime I saw it was a Spirit I was facing.
-
Unbreakable- Start the trial in the dying state, while unable to recover to the injured state
"You can't break me if I BREAK MYSELF!!! loophole"
DS- Survivor places themself on the hook and instantly dies
"TECHNICALLY you didnt kill me, so you lose baby killer"
Sprint burst- Survivors are given a burst of speed for 10 seconds at 400% speed...but cant turn. Running into a wall results in an instant death.
"Where's the brakes on th SPLAT"

It isn't a discussion about game balance, it's a discussion about rules. I don't know why you're throwing "balance" into the discussion.
It's the same reason you can't ban someone for using a cross-hair for their monitor. Even if you did, how would you stop someone from taping a Cheerio or Frootloop in the middle of their screen instead?
They don't ban for Discord or any chat program because even if they did, what's to stop people from using Steam's own voice chat? Or using phones, or talking in real life? How do you curate that?
How do you curate stream sniping? If the guy never said anything, you'd never even known. In fact, you still can't prove he did it. He could have just said he did it. You have no proof. And even if you did, therein lies the problem of it not being in the game. It's an out of game thing. BHVR cannot control what someone does on Twitch or Mixer or Dlive or Youtube or anything like that.
If you want to stream the game, that's the risk you run. If you don't want to be stream sniped, take preventive measures: Don't put your channel's name as your username. Don't put your twitch link in your profile. If you're popular, change your username to something different. Change your profile picture, set your profile to private. If you need to, hide the lobby with a different scene so people won't know if they're in your match or not until you're loading in or when you're even queuing up in the first place, etc.
AHA!!! So you ADMIT to the dreaded Fruit-loop hack!

If a killer uses a red nori and kills everybody after one hook they will most likely lose a pip or barely save. It's usually not worth bringing them. The other mori's don't make a huge difference.
Same can be said about 1 shot addons and such. Using Iri heads on Huntress is gonna cut your chaser emblem in half.

Sadly no spirit leveled so can't do Rancor, but blood warden seems like a lovely idea.
Had a game where the entire team scoured the map before popping the last gen so they could cleanse all the totems for NOED, only for my Rancor to still get some use... They did some teabagging during the mori animation, followed by some flashlighting...which activated Nemesis and allowed me to make further use of rancor, lol. All this right infront of an exit gate.

I got a decent way into the main storyline before finally kinda wandering off because I have no clue what to do next, lol. Tried doing a side quest, only to discover after I've gotten to what I THINK is a boss monster that the quest is recommended for lvl 32 or higher...I'm lvl 4. Boss 1 shot me. Takes me back to my Skyrim days when you run into giants within 15 minutes of starting the game.
-
Just because your spent alot of time on a game, or even alot of money...Doesnt mean its not ok to drop it once you've had enough. Even the game devs has said this, although the Civ thing has been turned into a meme pretty much. Personally, I've invested right around 4000 hours into warframe with that being actual in mission time and not just afk. I still though will drop it for awhile, pick it back up when I feel like it and so on.

I always thought he should have some kind of ridiculous looking way of getting around the map, whether that be to take out a bundle of balloons to fly up, only to crash back down at a separate point on the map...or maybe one of those Hopper ball things. Just imagine Clown bouncing around at mach speeds on one of these puppies while laughing maniacally.
-
I always thought it at least odd that getting out through hatch awarded 7k points while you only get 5k for leaving thought the gate, even though hatch is the easier option.

Hmm BT counters camping killers. Don't camp, and it's a non issue. Adrenaline procs when the game is nearly over. It's basically survivor Noed. If one is fine, so is the other. DS is anti tunneling. Don't tunnel and you'll rarely get hit with it. Though I'd argue it does need tweaking.
Feel like if DS only worked if ppl tunneled, youd have alot less grumbling about it. Ppl hate having to deal with chasing survivors off of gens or something that they arnt allowed to hook because even though that survivor is being productive, they got unhooked within 60 seconds. My personal thoughts on it is if you had time to be productive by doing gens, totems, unhooks, ect... You clearly werent being tunneled.
As far as moris go...
I've been trying to unlock every perk on every killer, which results in alot of moris being in my Bloodwebs that I HAVE to buy where I would prefer that the entity eat them personally. The irony that killers are often deemed sweaty and all that all the time but realisticly... We could be using ebony moris aton more than we do. I only typically choose to burn one when a SWF thinks they're cute by picking 4 of the same character with identical skins. If I accidentally down the same person twice because I couldnt tell the difference... I'm not eating the DS.

I don't deserve these, but I have no idea how to get rid of them. They're aware of the bug, but if we keep these afterwards (which we likely will), it just won't feel right. Basically what Seba said.
They already confirmed in the dev stream that the achievements are staying put as is. Theres really nothing they can do about it other than fixing the bug so others wont unlock them. On another note...its funny seeing how many people have gotten these achievements. Only 6% reached rank 10 as killer? Really?

It should be, but even if it isn’t, Witcher 3 is worth every penny - it’s such a good game! My favorite of the decade next to The Last of Us.
I always try to look for sales, because 60 bucks for a game is expensive when your on a budget. One reason why I tend to stick with these "games as a service" games for so long is because typically you pay once, then get a years worth of enjoyment out of them.
