This was definitely not common knowledge? Where are your sources for this claim?

The devs definitely said it has been the visible ranks that were used for matchmaking until MMR was used. Except for the MMR test phases of course. It didn’t work most of the time for sure but that doesn’t mean there was some other system running in the background.

Everywhere. There was a lot of talk about it among the forums, in dev livestreams, and among content creators while the SBMM was being implemented because there was still some people that didn't understand that matchmaking was never based solely on Rank. It would come up off-handedly before that when a dev would correct someone on the forums, or discord.

Also you're not that important for me (or anyone really) to waste time finding "evidence" when the evidence was given to us multiple times over the years, and you just chose not to pay attention. It makes no difference to me that you're wrong about something, and this thread can be further proof that so many players really doesn't understand how the game works to be having an opinion how it should.

Well the Emblem system has been used for matchmaking until it got replaced by the MMR system

Not really, other than only people from the same near ranks can play with each other. Matchmaking was based on a hidden mmr system. This was common knowledge.

  • How hard the sheep are trying to make DbD sound like it has a lot of content is surprising.

  • None, this game is great at attracting new players, it's current issue is keeping players.

  • You guys are comparing the emblem system to the MMR system?

They have always been separate, and the Emblem system is still in the game guys.

  • Honestly I cared a lot when I heard about it, but BHVR is not acting like it's that big of a deal and only trying to profit off it as much as it can before it goes - so I stopped caring.

Honestly a lot involving the game I started to just stop caring.

  • @dugman Look - the SBMM is certainly working as you say in this example. /s

Actually it’s probably false that your rating goes up with only 1 kill, in fact it probably goes down unless the person you killed happens to be higher rated than you and the people who escape are all lower rated than you. In normal circumstance 1 kill means you go up a bit from that but then go down three times for the three escapes. And typically your kill won’t be the highest rated survivor either since they’re probably the best on their team at escaping, instead your kill will more often be one of the weaker lower rated survivors so the boost you get will be small from it and you’ll still lose rating for the other three.

So no, killers don’t “usually gain rating”.

Then we agree to disagree, good day.

  • potatos shouldn't locker spam maiden if they can't loop shack without pallet.

  • Honestly I don't think there is an op combination anymore for Killer, they've all been nerfed into the ground and have counterplay.

Jokingly. You're all sleeping on Legion with only Spies.

This is so dumb. I guess having fun with friends is ilegal now and is considered bullying

That's what all it's become. When I play solo survivor it feels like I am playing DBD, when I play with friends it feels unfair and bullying. Like to the point we had to make up out of game rules as to not ruin the atmosphere and fun of the game, for us or the Killer we end up against. Most play groups are not going to be that courteous.

Even when you're not going out of your way to bully the killer it still feels humiliating to them. A coordinated flashlight save, pallet save, and coordinated repairing to always be repairing the gen opposite the map where the killer is, or only pulling the killer away from the gen to be worked on. Coordinated hiding. It's just plainly not fun for the Killer - at all, and these are very normal things to do in a SWF, and then get's mistaken as bullying because - on every time I try to chase an injured survivor one after another I get body blocked. Chase a different survivor the ones are already healing and body blocking again. Gens go quickly or steadily as they keep body blocking. When you do finally down someone there is always 1-3 survivors nearby to drop a pallet or get a flashlight save - they always coordinate getting downed in the open so the Killer can't look at a wall. Try slugging, they coordinate unbreakable.

Coordinate Head On hits during chases. Coordinate gens to blast mine, and which ones to complete. Coordinate to avoid a 3 gen.

More or less yeah, 2 kills and 2 escapes would mean your rating doesn’t change too much. It would change a little, though, simply because the amount the killer goes up or down for each survivor depends on their relative ratings to each other. If you kill a higher rated survivor your rating goes up more than if you kill a lower rated survivor, and vice versa for escapes. So between that and timing possibly influencing it as well means your rating will still probably change slightly one way or another on a 2 kill match depending on the exact ratings and details.

But if those 2 kills were on survivors of higher mmr with you, then your mmr goes up, if either were significantly higher then you, then your mmr goes up. If the only kill you get in a match is a survivor with significantly higher mmr than you - your mmr will go up. If the survivor escapes/dies is close to mmr with you there isn't much of a change, and if the survivor who escapes/dies is lower mmr than you you're mmr will go down.

In most cases for Killers if you get at least 1-2 sacrifices your mmr will go up.

In most cases for Survivor your mmr will remain in the center unless you mostly play in swf's where you escape back to back 10-20 times. Because players tend to die a lot when playing solo.

So Killers normally gain mmr, solo survivors will normally stay the same or go down in mmr, and swf will normally gain mmr.

This is assuming average to good players. It's a terrible system.

  • @PNgamer said:

    hey folks,

To develop another system (like the current one) would take much more time. Now imagine if the developers calculated the MMR differently. Then there would be only farm rounds to achieve a higher MMR or ? and that would definitely be a pure disaster for Dead by Daylight.

BHVR has made the right decision here

Did BHVR make the right decision to tell us what the win condition is ? I don't think so. They should have kept it secret, because that might have ensured that players would have stayed true to their playstyle.

Should the developers release the secret number ? Definitely NO, cause of Toxic City.

That is only my opinion. What is your opinion about it ? Let´s discuss

    greeting

So if I get 8 hooks every game, which is a guaranteed black pip (or single/double pip at lower grades), and pleasing the entity. It would force my mmr to go down, even though I am winning?

So if I ensure to perform an array of objectives (repairing, healing, saving, cleansing, escaping chases), but choose to sui in the end. Which ensures I get a single or double pip. Or sacrificing myself to ensure the other 3 survivors survive. Forcing my mmr to go down, even though I am winning?

No. Having the mmr system based around kills and escapes - is actually the stupidest thing ever, and I am surprised anyone at BHVR thought that was a good idea. I am even more surprised after it went live, nobody got fired for it, and they literally announced it like it was a good idea.

  • @Malkhrim said:

The devs wanted add a new mechanic to the game. I get it. But the way it was introduced was terrible, and what bothers me the most is that the way it is designed and the changes made to the game for its release seem to make sure they had no counters whatsoever. Honestly, this almost feels like making the new perks unhealthy on purpose.

The killer may snuff it early? Make so it has unlimited uses with no cooldown.

The killer may use many hex perks and leave few dull totems on the map? Make it so they can bless hex totems too. That would make them have to choose between cleansing or blessing a hex? No problem, just make it so it removes the hex without removing the totem.

The killer would see where the boon totem is though the notification that appears when the hex totem is cleansed? Make it so it doesn't show up when it's blessed (this one can be worked around by memorizing where the totem was, but this feature is something that still makes boons a little stronger).

The killer can use Thrill of the Hunt, which is a really underpowered, outdated and barely used perk that could finally become more useful and used more often (which would be a good thing, by the way) now that boon totems are being added, because it would show were boon totems are being blessed and help the killer to prevent it and to find the totems until his hex totem was cleansed (which is still a very easy and simple way to counter a killer perk)? JUST NERF THE ALREADY WEAK PERK by removing its most important feature and make it useless! Now no one will use this perk at all! What a great idea to balance the game (this one was the worst. Thrill of the Hunt could have finally gained more value, but instead was made completely useless and one of the worst killer perks in the game by now)!

What will be next? Nerfing Forced Penance so its broken effect can no longer prevent survivors from benefitting from Boon: Circle of Healing? Or, since nerfing bad and underused perks is a thing now, maybe we should nerf Beast of Prey, Monstrous Shrine and Furtive Chase? Who thought this was a good idea?

My main issue with this is that having counters and limitations makes a mechanic healthier for the game. Making sure something will have no counters is just making sure it is as unhealthy as possible. Beside the nerf Boon Totems need, I hope Thrill of the Hunt's nerf gets reversed. Seriously, this was by far the most unnecessary nerf in the history of DbD.

They even buffed sabotaging before releasing Scourge Hooks, and they made more counters to Hex totems before introducing boon totems

I realize you troll sluzzy. But why are you using fake scenarios to prove a point in your troll posts ?

Your second picture is literally a custom game of 1v1. There's 1 player for survivors. No DCs. No deaths.

The second picture is in spectator mode. If the other 3 survivors already left, then the only survivor that would be on the left when going into spectator from the end game lobby would be the last survivor in the match.

Idk why it removes the other survivors from the left list, but it does.

Just ignore them. They are not going to make sense, they have a one sided mentality that they gained from blindly following a content creator. It's like even after BHVR themselves stopped supporting this content creator in particular, their toxic fanbase still believes anything he says as fact.

  • No it's not.

If there was no dc penalty it would be abused like it has been when it was temporarily removed. It will never be removed hackers on the otherhand is really up to easy anticheat more so than behavior they probably need to invest in a better company down the road because its clear its not potent enough to catch all the hacks out there. You could play on console with xrossplay off to reduce this occurance but i hear even that has its issues

Players shouldn't be punished for avoiding cheaters, and if people abuse it then it's on the Dev's to get a better anti-cheat not implement a mechanic that punishes players for avoiding cheaters.

Just play the game more. You could be using the time spent on the forum to find your treat pumpkin instead.

*Proceeds to run around a map kicking every pumpkin, then going afk to browse the forums till the match ends*

  • It would be easier just to not play. I am going to finish the Killer challenges, get my rank 1, then switch to survivor till rift 70 and then switch to another game. There are so many asymmetrical games out there now that are 10x better than dbd

  • Of all the toxic things a dev could say, is that seriously real?

  • @awustzdn said:

You should never afk because it's considered against the rules. What you should do, however, is put on an endgame build and perform very, very poorly a theoretically infinite amount of times.

I don't want to give the toxic players the satisfaction, and would rather spend my time doing something fun while I wait for my mmr to go where it's supposed to be / to where I want it to be.

I get that I am good at the game, but I don't want to play competitively, or against cheaters all the time.

This is why. It really isn't hard to edit pictures like this. This was done in paint in 5 minutes.

Someone with even the slightest bit of knowledge can make anyone say horrible things in no matter what kind of picture. You report them cause then they know which person it was and exactly what they said.

Never trust pictures on the internet.

Not seeing your point, even if you hide the names I can photoshop the black line away, photoshop any name in, and then photoshop anything I want said in chat. That's all unrelated.

That doesn't affect anyone's point that BHVR is protecting people that are toxic.

  • @Karltastisk said:

So let me get this straight.

Getting hit trough a pallet as survivor is hella annoying. And being exhausted on the ground with dead hard is infuriating, but to solve these problems we just shift the frustration to the killer players AND keep it in so that killers get the hit, scream, blood AND, to top it of, lets make them go trough the hit animation slowdown so that they can feel robbed of a hit/down.

HOW is this ANY better than before!? You are INTENTIONALLY implementing bugs into the game, seriously, What the actual ¤¤¤¤!

And when you get a grab, it turns into a hit instead

  • It wasn't "Fixed" they made it survivor sided, or better explained "bad connection sided". If you have a better connection than the Killer - you will get hit anyways. If you have a better connection than the survivor, it forces you to whiff and miss, and all they needed was to hear you start your attack.

Why is name shaming a bad thing? If someone tells someone else to end their life why should they get the benefit of anonymity?

That's why I said it's just the excuse to hide the problem. If they were taking it seriously and doing something about it - they would care less about protecting them.

  • Just don't go to the gate. Go break walls/pallets, kick pumpkins, and practice looping.

  • Since you didn't hide the names they are going to take down your post under "name shaming" the excuse they give to hide this very big problem.

What are you basing the claim on that reports can’t get people banned?

People who have been reported for blatant hacking came back to the game on the same steam account, even though their report had received the response that they were investigating the user and couldn't divulge if they were punished. It's public knowledge that the penalty for hacking is an immediate ban for life.

They purposely ignore questions about cheaters, and refuse to release a any statement about the cheaters in game, or if they are doing anything about it.

  • For gods sake please turn off dc penalty

  • I would suggest you get out now when you have the chance.

I didn't ask for ######### and I don't think I ever saw anyone ask for MMR until the devs mentioned it was coming. I just wanted rank rewards I didn't ask for ######### MMR because I know they can't handle anything that is even remotely complex with this game. Its been out for like 5 years and we just now are getting some of the bigger issues fixed or things like rank rewards despite having a ranking system almost the entire span of this game's life time.

Literally every week the forum had been blowing up to get an MMR system before they introduced the mmr system. I watched as it went from begging and CM's telling everyone that there were no plans to add an mmr system because they didn't want to make the game competitive, to they were talking about it, to they were planning to implement mmr. I watched as they tested a broken MMR system. I watched as they released a broken mmr system.

This is literally - entirely - the community's fault.

  • You don't want to include Claudette as apart of the original 4?

    What are you? Racist?

  • You people begged for MMR, screeched for MMR. You expected this from the company that literally does absolutely everything the easiest way possible, and are now surprised that it's too simple to mirror actual skill in the game.

Wow! How surprising! Nobody expected that! Holy wow! Did anyone else see that coming!? Wooooooooooooow

  • Are people only now realizing how useless hex perks are? They are not some god perk, they are extremely easy to counter. Bless totems makes it even less sense to run the perks.

Yes this......the obvious solution is to play whats busted at the moment to cheese wins. Cause thats what DBD has become....if everyone quits killer the devs can finally impliment AI killers across all matches turning this into the borefest survivors have always wanted....

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/2375LG88PMMI/h9edxq4opdez.png

Honestly I am to the point believing that is what they are doing. They clearly have been working on A.I's. They hadn't been making any changes to make Killer even slightly bearable to play. If someone gave me a fake news article that BHVR is removing Killer for A.I. I would just 100% believe it, not even question it, or be surprised.

  • Did someone say start playing Basement Bubba?

  • Why? They literally just introduced even faster repair speeds for gens. They removed the skill needed for dead hard so it's another guaranteed second chance - making chases even longer. They introduced a reusable hex perk for survivors that counters essential perks needed to track survivors. They introduced a reusable hex perk for survivors that makes chasing survivors near impossible. They introduced a reusable hex perk for survivors that makes it impossible to hold pressure.

They didn't address the map sizes. They didn't address pallet economy. They didn't address how close strong tiles are. They buffed some killers so they are no longer F tier, while taking strong Killers out of A tier, and people act like that is enough to make Survivors immensely more powerful in every aspect.

You know why Killers are tunneling, and camping more? Because every single update - they adapt. They adapt to the game getting worse and worse, because every time they complain about the changes being unbalanced you get a wave of toxic players that are no good at the game flying in and protecting the devs for bad balance changes. Their only support? Content Creators that are survivor sided.

So yeah, if you want Killers to stop camping and tunneling, then balance them to be able to do anything else. Otherwise, Killers are going to only get better at making the game worse.

  • @Khelendrose2020 said:

Dead Hard is not the discouraging issue for killer imo. It is SBMMR and Boons that are making killer miserable. I see all these threads on how Boons are not going to be meta, yet every match I've run this week sees 2 to 4 up at the same time. Add in SBMMR and constant skilled SWF and tgis is a lesson in futility.

Oh, but you can hear them so loud! Yeah, but then stopping pressure to look for it, then toy with the fact you have to position just right to interact with it and you just lost 10 to 15 seconds. Multiply that times three and you just lost a duo gen. If it's a multilevel map, forget it.

Just ignore it. Sure, and watch players healing in front of you. If they jave a healers kit or healing perk added in, you are in for a long match.

Yeah, Dead Hard hardly registers with me. I wish that was the biggest issue.

That is boons being meta, a team only needs one or two people for all 4 of the survivors to receive their full benefits. I have actually started to play other asymmetrical games other than DbD because of the recentt changes, and loving it as both other games killer and survivor equivalent. Also this new game I am playing - much better community.

I am so surprised other games exist, and am starting to understand Dead by Daylight is only popular because of the die hard fans and they have Twitch by the balls.

  • Get close to use your chainsaw, don't rely on it's small speed boost to catch up to survivors. Practice 180's, so you can mind game survivors around loops - they think you are about to chainsaw one way, and then just as your chainsaw goes off you 180 and run right into them tthe other way.

Pay attention to your heat meter, you can chainsaw swipe a long distance if you hit the button at the end of each charge.

  • The chat is literally right above the button to leave the lobby. It's hard not to miss. It's only thing to say "Just close and ignore chat" and it's another when the chat is literally right in your way giving you the "I gotta push every button" desire of opening it again

They need to add a setting to disable chat entirely, so it becomes too much of a hassle to turn back on inbetween games, and let "Out of sight, out of mind" take it's course.

What's even more funny. League of Legends, which has less toxicity than Dead by Daylight, is removing their All chat all together to lessen toxicity in their game.

  • Escape when you can, not when you want.

  • @oxygen said:

Because that's a problem with maps, not the perk itself. Unlike when COH caused crashes, that was the perk itself. Disabling boons when it's only specific maps where the problem exists is a good old "cut the whole hand off because one finger is messed up" solution.

The maps where the problem exists should be disabled though. Not just the offerings either, but entirely disabled in all ways except manually selecting them in Custom Game.

Because it would be easier to disable the Boons so their QA team test all the totem spawns to see if the Killer can reach the totems or not, instead of disabling all the maps in the game.

I just found un-snuffable totems in Red Forest and Lery's.

If they disabled all the maps that had un-snuffable totems we wouldn't have any maps to play.
