But you're removing one Survivor from the game, thus slowing Survivor's overall ability to do gens, and lowering them from being in 4 place at once to 3 places.

Which means chasing 2 Survivors is no longer 1/2 the team but 2/3rds the team. They go from having 2 being chased and 2 on gens to 2 being chased and 1 on gens.

I mean, if I let the hooked Survivor live, I'm still putting pressure on ONE new Survivor, without the ability to quickly eliminate them if/when I catch them.

Sorry but no matter how you try to paint it; removing someone from the game is the most efficient way to play it. It reduces everything Survivors can do, from gens to healing. Which puts massive pressure on Survivors.

Or are you seriously going to argue that spreading out the hooks is somehow better than removing a body from the board ASAP?

I'm arguing that if the survivor can run you long enough, your strategy isn't efficient anymore; it's a waste of time.

If they get you down to 2 gens because you've wasted all your time tunneling one person out of the game, there's a good chance the 3 remaining survivors are going to escape. If you're lucky, you walk away with 2 kills. If you're unlucky, you walk away with 1 kill.

It doesn't matter if you've reduced the overall team efficiency if they're quick to smash out gens. Ergo, tunneling is extremely inefficient and relies on short chases to be anywhere near efficient.

    False equivalency.

Killers win by KILLING. Of which tunneling helps.

Just like Survivors win by doing gens, of which going back to an 80% gen helps.

But if we use your logic; Survivors can win by doing every 0% gen when chased off an 80% gen. Instead of tunneling that 80% gen.

Survivors onto using fallacies to push that 'don't tunnel' propaganda.

Tunneling is inefficient. Your argument is that doing a generator that's 80% is more efficient than doing a generator that's at 0%, which is not always true. If the killer is fiercely defending that gen, you have little chance of completing it, so starting the 0% gen is more efficient.

Tunneling, on the other hand, is almost always inefficient. You have four survivors. Three of which are healthy with zero hooks, one of which is injured and has been hooked once. Tunneling the injured survivor into their second hook is a waste of time since you're not putting any pressure on the other three survivors.

A killer still needs to be able to beat you in a chase to even remove you from the game to begin with. While it may not feel fair to die because you lost 1 chase, that is simply something that can happen whether it's because the killer is forcing you out of the game by camping or your survivor teammate just don't help you.

Survivors stay at 100% Speed. Killers gain more speed as Bloodlust increases, so losing a chase is inevitable and nothing will stop a killer who wants to tunnel you out of the game. BT, DS, Pallet Stuns, Teammates trying to take aggro will all largely be ignored if the killer really wants you out of the game.

Being tunneled out of the game is boring. It's unsatisfying and you feel like the killer didn't earn it. I'm not saying "nerf killers", I'm saying play better. Tunneling is inefficient and if the survivor is decent enough to run you for at least 2 gens, you've wasted too much time for it to be considered "efficient".

  • All this nonsense about survivors just wanting an escape handed to them is ridiculous.

I'm a Rank 5 Killer main, and rank 7 as Survivor. I play Survivor casually with my friends to have fun. I'm largely unconcerned with winning, and more concerned with having fun. For me, having fun means being able to do my objective to a degree and testing my skill against the killer.

Tunneling may very well be a strategy, but it's a strategy that involves zero skill on the killer's part. It's not fun for the survivor being tunneled, and the other three survivors are free to focus on gens without worry.

  • Playing nice and not tunneling/genrushing are not mutually exclusive concepts. Good sportsmanship goes a long way.

  • Tunneling doesn't counter genrushing. Smart survivors know that they'll lose a player, but if they stay on gens then they're more than likely going to escape since they have zero hooks and are all healthy.

Tunneling will lose you the game against efficient survivors.

  • Not tunneling and playing nice are not mutually exclusive concepts. Not tunneling doesn't mean go stand on the other side of the map for 30 seconds. It just means giving the unhooked survivor a actual chance to leave the hook.

By all means punish mistakes, but don't justify tunneling by saying it's only logical to go for the already injured survivor. If you happen upon the unhooked survivor again after giving them a chance to leave the hook, slug them for extra pressure. Gets survivors off gens and you can get hits in on a healthy survivor.

If they want to bodyblock with BT, or they try to blind you, then by all means rehook them.

  • People have a right to express their opinions. By all means, play how you want to play but don't expect people to be happy about it if the way you're playing is only fun for you.

  • Safety pip or better.

A couple of things. Why does the number of gens matter exactly....? If you mess up once and let someone live. You may not see them until the last gen is done. I play matches as if no gens are left. The exception being if someone DCs.

Otz does camp tunnel and slug. Even at 5 gens. Especially during his streaks. Just because of his win conditions. He's lost streaks in the 30s just from playing "nice" And even lately he's been more advocating for playing how you need to. To win

It matters a lot. It's extremely boring when the killer is tunneling and camping from the beginning of the trial.

Playing nice and not engaging in what is considered to be scummy gameplay are two very different things. When you make 8k or less because the killer tunneled or camped you at 5 gens, it doesn't exactly make you want to continue playing.

  • No. Most of the time I forget to look with BBQ.

I don't see Otz tunneling or camping when not a single gen has been done.

"Targeting a recently unhooked survivor" Correct!

"choosing to ignore easier targets" not correct. the unhooked player is the EASIER TARGET. One hit down unless your saved with bt, then another easy 2nd hook if u dont have DS.even if your left on the floor, thats easy pressure, now theres at tops only 2 players on a gen while you chase the guy who unhooked.

Survivors ignoring everything else, even saving teammates on hooks on dying state to smash a gen out is basically the same thing as killers tunneling survivors. your ignoring other objectives.

Do you have any idea how aggravating it is to look at the scoreboard and see you made less than 8k because the killer decided to tunnel you off hook so they can have an easy game?

I play SWF casually. My friends and I all make mistakes and sometimes it's pretty funny. We are by no means the bully squad or the optimal SWF squad. We're just playing for fun, and being tunneled out of the game at 5 gens is not fun.

  • @Ruma said:

Theres no need to defend tunneling. Its a valid strategy in some cases.

Yeah, in *some* cases. But if you're tunneling with 5 gens still on the board, it's no longer a strategy; you're just bad.

I've been taking a well deserved break from console DBD.

The last time I was on we hadn't heard anything from BHVR except the infuriatingly vague "we're working on it."

So has there been any news on that, or is BHVR still giving console players the finger?

Apparently anywhere between 3 weeks and mid-chapter update.

  • All-Seeing: Blood definitely needs to be changed. Before Wraith got Base Windstorm and a buff to his lunge, you had to sacrifice an add-on slot to have it. That was it's drawback. But now, there's no drawback so I think it needs changing to have some sort of drawback especially since aura reading is extremely powerful.

So, tru3talent has posted many videos talking about how to counter the spirit and showing how well he can play against one, and often escapes against one. The answer the community gives, is that the spirit he went against was "bad". So i ask you. If it should be balanced around average skilled players, why do we need to nerf spirit, when she really is only good in the hands of killers who are good? You can't maintain both statements, they a logically in conflict with one another.

Spirit needs counterplay. I watched tru3's video, and I respectfully disagree with his opinions. You don't need to be a good player to do well with Spirit. A player of average skill can very easily 4k with Spirit since her power is basically an information blockout.

  • The game should be balanced around average skilled players. Balance for the very top, and you get problems like in Overwatch where everything is about playing the game a very specific way and fun isn't a factor.

I personally prefer games to be fun than to be purely competitive. Nurse is fine, since there is plenty of room for counterplay because you are getting constant information off her.

Spirit, on the other hand, needs counterplay and shouldn't be left untouched. Especially Stridor Spirit.

I don't buy the argument of its all capcom/konamis fault. They could let us mix and match original character sets.

Tbh, I'm not motivated to buy any sets and use them as is. I have no intention on buying any more cosmetics because mixing was the only fun I had with them.

Silent Hill Legion? Gross. Headless Legion? Heck yeah.

Minotaur Oni? Eh, cool I guess. Minotaur Death Throes Oni? METAL AF \m/

Well obviously it's not entirely the fault of the license holders. There's nothing stopping BHVR from allowing mix and match with their original characters.

  • I just play Ghost Face with Ruin + Surveilance. Usually pushes them into a 3-gen situation where I hold it for 30 minutes because only now that they're 3-genned do they think about finding the ruin.

The reason you have "sweaty killers" and "gen rushing survivors" is because players are trying to win the game. Simple as that.

Okay gen rushing isn’t a thing lol. Survivors have one objective so what would you suggest they do? Wait in a corner until the killer says “go”? Do you see how absurd that sounds? “Hey everyone, let’s take a few minutes and wait until the killer is ready to begin playing”. Lmao

Genrushing absolutely is a thing. I've had a gen pop in the first 15 seconds of a match. Genrushing isn't simply doing the objective. It's doing the objective as fast as possible through stacking on gens with perks like Prove Thyself and Resilience with (usually) Commodius Toolbox and BNP.

  • Two bug fix patches have come and gone, and neither did anything about the piss-poor state of the game's performance on PS4/Xbox One. If the next patch doesn't fix it, it'll be safe to assume it's not a priority for them.

  • @thrawn3054 said:

I run Prove Thy Self, but I do it for the points since completing a gen gives you ######### for points.

By itself, the perk is fine, but coupled with Anniversary Toolbox and BNP, that's just a genrush.

How are survivors supposed to try to farm? It's entirely a killer's decision to do so or not. Literally every single game I have had, the killer camps and tunnels. Every single one. Why should we slow down the game to help the killers when they choose to do that almost constantly?

I played killer during the 4th anniversary, and survivors would generally seek the killer out to see if they wanted to farm and go from there.

Usually if all five offered cake, it was a safe assumption that everyone wants to farm. But now, survivors only seem interested in getting out as fast as possible.

  • I spent most my day playing killer. I'm rank 11. Survivors made no attempt to farm, and every game has been genrush city. 2 Anniversary toolboxes + BNP and Prove Thyself, and 2 Anniversary Flashlights.

  • I don't see why you hate farming so much. If you're that bored, play something else instead of raining on everyone else's parade.

They dont have to refund you because the DLC is not the issue at hand. Its something with the spaghetti code. That is to say, you buying or not buying the DLC would not have made a difference. Just saying.

Do you have proof they dont? Personally I just think they are inept, and dont care for last gen anymore. They probably have a single PS5 and Xboxwhatever they use for a 5min test.

Spaghetti code may be the reason for it, but the cause was still the Resident Evil DLC.

  • @Lord_Tony said:

bhvr should just give up on last gen consoles because it's slowing down game development.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to obtain a next-gen console right now? So what, pray tell, are those of us on PS4/Xbox One with no way to upgrade supposed to do?

We paid for the resident evil chapter, but performance is so bad they should just refund us. BHVR Got our money and in return we got performance issues because they clearly didn't test their update on consoles before it went live.

Plenty of people on this forum have justified tunneling by saying that the killer might find that fun.

This. A lot of times, I run into the same person I just hooked seconds ago and cannot see anyone else as they run away. I'm genuinely sorry it turns out that way, but it's a hard balance between putting myself in a losing position to toe the line of not looking like an A-hole. It's a matter of that, to me, I cannot see anyone else near me and it's precious time to run around all over looking for someone else to not give the wrong impression.

I play killer more than survivor, and I like to give everyone a fair chance but if I come across the same survivor again, I'll just slug them. Creates pressure. Gets survivors off gens.

  • Apparently tunneling is a valid strategy and fun for the killer even if it's not fun for the survivor.

Nemesis is a bad killer, if you think otherwise you are a main survivor and / or you haven't played with Nemesis.

He needs buffs, and fixing a bug that is going to cause him to have fewer chances to hit survivors, they are nerfing him.

I won't argue that he needs buffs, but he doesn't need a compensation buff. The killer should function as intended.

  • Why should he get a compensation buff? It's a bug fix, not a nerf.

  • @SquillDBD said:

It's pretty skill-dependent. You shouldn't even bee going down to a Wraith like that, if anything that shows a lack of skill on your end.

It's really not. 3man slug still means your team is dying. You might have a chance at escaping, but your team absolutely doesn't.

Cloaked, Wraith has a base movement speed of 150%. Throw Windstorm - Blood into the mix, you're looking at 159.57%. Throw in Swift Hunt - White, and now Wraith has fast uncloaking too.

With knockout making it harder to find your fellow survivors, Wraith constantly on your heels, that's a net loss. No amount of skill will help you in that situation. Hence why there needs to be an in-game mechanic that prevents this sort of thing.

  • @SquillDBD said:

If you're getting 4man slugged as survivor. I'm sorry but you're just bad xd

Getting 4 man slugged doesn't happen often enough that I feel the need to change my loadout. Further, it was against a Windstorm Wraith running Knockout and Deer Stalker. Get picked up, get downed immediately because Deer Stalker tells the killer where downed survivors are, while Knockout makes it harder for survivors to find each other.

Getting deliberately bled out is not fine, and isn't skill-dependent.

  • @Mandy said:

Whilst I completely understand your frustration - we have acknowledged the performance issues and advised that it's being worked on. It's not something that's being ignored. Sadly, it's not an easy fix and whilst small fixes have been implemented up to know (including today's hotfix which should have resolved the "out of memory" issue), we are aware that other fixes need to be done and the team is working on these.

With all due respect Mandy, we were promised optimisation but every chapter release breaks the game in one way or another, and the issues just keep getting worse with each patch on consoles.

  • @SomberNokk said:

    You wanna ban Oni players?

I want a solution that isn't X Perk or Y Perk. I want a solution that actually punishes a killer for mass slugging with no intention of hooking.

Slugging, in general, is fine when you're doing it to either make efficient use of your power, apply pressure, or chase away someome going for a flashlight save.

Slugging to bleed out all four survivors is not fine, and incurs no actual punishment for the player choosing to do this.

  • @elpoh said:

If you are the ONLY one being slugged, the counters are:

Having good teammates where one heal you, while the other one take a hit.

Use Unbreakable next to a pallet.

    Use Unbreakable+Soul Guard.

If the killer manage to slug everybody, you guys are TERRIBLE at the game, how is possible no one is able to loop him until someone else heal the last downed survivor?

It was a Wraith with Windstorm - Blood. Pick one up, immediately get downed again and left to bleed out. It's not that we were all terrible, it's that he was running a slug build and didn't hook any of us.

  • Killers objective is to kill. Survivors objective is to repair gens and escape. Who do you think was holding the game hostage? It's not really a big deal, though, since the killer wasn't prevented from doing their objective.

  • Nurse isn't hard to use, just hard to master.

Pretty important when he doesnt have map mobility and gets cucked hard by vaults which are every where. Tunneling and camping is part of the game, and for a reason. It lets him put insane pressure on the team when used appropriately. Like hooking the survivor in the middle of a 3 gen. Or punishing a swf you know is going to be altruistic. Bubba isnt a horrible killer, but hes not great either. Being able to camp at appropriate times in the appropriate places is what elevates him out of c or d tier. This nerf would put him there (probably c).

Look it would be wonderful if the game had more objectives and killers could play in such a way that they were taking turns with the survivors and being nice. Those days disappeared with old ruin. You cant neuter bubba like this without balancing the other side by slowing gens, which we all know isnt going to happen.

Nobody likes the bubba that hard camps the first person they put on hook, but nobody likes the gen rushing swf either. Everyone in the middle has to deal with the occasional douchebags 🤷‍♂️

I'm a Ghost Face main, I get 4ks all the time without tunneling or camping. Both Bubba and Ghost Face have the same movement speed. Neither of them have map mobility.

Tunneling and camping isn't putting insane pressure on the team if the team doesn't care. I can hold a 3 gen for a solid 15 minutes. All M1 Killers get cucked by vaults, so Bubba's not special.

  • @Weasdat said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2313920#Comment_2313920

Yes his camping value is important. He's the best killer at it and it is certainly part of his kit. There are situations where you should camp like if you have a hook in the middle of a three gen.

    "you're not really "winning"."

What kind of mental gymnastics is this? No one but le gentlemen killers thinks anything below a 3k is a win disregarding hatch. If you get 3k via camping whether or not it's you making the right move or the survivors making the wrong one you won.

The point I was getting at was that competent survivors will smash out gens, which means you have 1 kill on the board and 3 hook states. That's really not winning.

Camping is almost never the right play, especially not in a three gen. So, put that way, just how important is it for him to be the best at camping?

  • @Weasdat said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2313877#Comment_2313877

It doesn't matter how you spin this. It's a straight up nerf to bubba and there's no reason to nerf him.

A nerf to his camping value, sure. But is that really important? If you're relying on camping to secure kills, you're not really "winning".

How mediocre he is simply isn't really relevant here.

So then why does the game run flawlessly on the new consoles?

It doesn't. It runs better because the new consoles are more powerful. Need I remind you that there are far more demanding games that run flawlessly on the PS4?

Realistically, very little has changed in terms of how dbd runs between 2016 and now. If anything, it's gotten worse instead of better.

  • @gendoss said:

I'm not saying go out and buy a PC or new console, I'm saying if you are going to keep an old console you should keep your expectations in check as the game gets updated. Eventually every game that slowly gets updated on the old consoles will leave those consoles behind because they can't handle it. You upgraded to an Xbox One because your 360 was too old, the same thing will happen here.

Dbd is poorly optimised. It was made before next-gen consoles were a thing. Many of us aren't expecting 60fps 4k graphics, we're just expecting a stable framerate. It's really not a lot to ask for when you consider there are more graphically demanding games that can run at a stable framerate.

There is literally no excuse and people shouldn't have to put up with it when they've been promising console optimisation for 2 years now.
