I’m finding that lots of people don’t know what meme-ing is. I try to Boop the Snoot so many times and just get violated by Piggy’s blade with no time to react.

Just today, I tried playing with a Death Slinger. I stood behind a window and crouched, when he approached, I stood up then crouched again, hoping he’d get the hint that I want him to target practice on me. He accused me of t-bagging in the end game chat. I was so sad.

Yeah, it's not as well known as I'd like. When I play as Survivor, I usually wait for the Killer to initiate meming because they'll give clearer signals: hitting random objects, spinning in circles, spamming the roar or crouch button.

SOMETIMES I can signal a Killer I want to meme by pointing at them, or shaking my head. The problem with that, though, is being able to signal before being downed, and the Killer recognizing you want to meme, not BM them.

Anyone else have thoughts or things they do to signal they're friendly to memeing?

WE cannot wait for them to act, so again we rise up. Let's create another super thread about their incompetence in optimizing console. Talk about your experiences, talk about the good and bad times with this game on console. Let this thread be the one to reach the legacy of that other super thread. They won't listen until we either leave or become loud enough. But we cannot fall like our predecessors. NO DEV BASHING. Or The mods WILL close this.

I've been terrified to play with the new patch and all the event backlash 😭😭😭

I'm a Rank-9 (after reset) Survivor and I sometimes resemble this remark. :) Glass houses man, glass houses. I think the quality of Survivors can vary widely and is rarely representative of their Rank. A bad Survivor can be carried by a good team. A good Survivor can be dragged down by a bad one. Sometimes we have off days.

    ^^ THIS EXACTLY.

34 today and everything you didn't do at 16 or in your 20's someone always has an opinion on. It's aggravating and disheartening.

Wait, is it your birthday today???

If so happy birthday 🎂 Beyond that- everyone will have an opinion on everything at every age. Can't stop that or control when they arrive at your front door.

What you CAN do is practice healthy boundaries. You can't control who shows up in your life or their opinions, but you have a voice to speak up and politely tell them to get off your damn lawn. Best wishes 💙

What if i didn't want to give away my age, but still wanted to despair over how irrelevant you become to society after that age?

You could make a separate thread about that.

Don't have to become irrelevant, though. Mentoring someone, either in gaming or IRL, is something the world needs more of.

    Mentally or physically?

    That's a valid question, lol

  • I'm old af. Ok, under 40 fo sho, but I've creeped past 30 awhile ago. Won't say I'm sorry about that, though, because gaming has been something I've enjoyed since childhood.

  • Nah, I'd wait and see if DC's diminish now that the Rift is over.

  • Depends. If I feel like a gen is about to pop or another survivor appears, I usually cut off the original chase to apply pressure.

  • I have enough shards for both, but already own BBQ + Chili. Any advantage to getting both, then?

GD dude, you're stirring that pot hard 🤣

  • @Steel_Eyed That's a good suggestion, actually. When I think about it, the only reason I really committed to the Rift was because of the Wraith and Zarina skins. And other than maybe Ace's poker chip and the Meg doll, the rest of the charms were garbage I'll never use.

  • @Tactless_Ninja said:

I'd rather pay a flat fee and always have access to aquiring everything than this timed BS.

It takes 2 months of grinding to finish. The Rift is supposed to maintain player count/interest right? That's the real reason it exists?

Agreed. And I think a one time fee to have access to all Rifts would be the most fair. That way vet players have assurance they don't have to drop everything for future tomes while new players don't have to feel like they missed out on early tomes. I don't know what a fair price would be, but I'd be willing to pay a lot for that guarantee. And it would be advantageous for the devs, too, because then they get a guaranteed paying customer, REGARDLESS of changes they make to tome progression.

  • I think you're making blanket statements, because what your saying just isn't true. Please don't force your experience on others and demand universal change. For one, I'm a console player and I've never received a toxic or nasty message. I've definitely experienced players with BM in game during a match, but it's not the same. And some of what your describing isn't seen as toxic behavior, that's just YOUR perspective.

  • @FrootLoops said:

There was an interesting study done some years ago that said that the absolute most stressful job is working in a customer service call center. The reason for that is because you are an anonymous, faceless voice that happens to be the unfortunate soul who was there when people needed to confront their adversary and they treat you as something less than human. and these queue up one after another completely unrelated to each other and never ending. Sounding familiar?

In these circumstances we forget each other's humanity. we don't see friendly competition but rather a hostile unknown who is actively trying to deny us the reward we seek. It takes a conscious effort to set that aside and remember that the person/people in the opposing role are just as human as ourselves. Obviously we hope that everyone spends the effort to remember that and gives a "gg", but the reality is that in an online multiplayer game this sort of behavior will probably continue indefinitely.

I just take comfort in the fact that the majority of my matches are with people that just play the game and either give a gg in the end or otherwise don't message at all. for the trolls that spew toxic bile...? I silently hope they get a job in a call center somewhere 😁

I can completely confirm this. After 2 years in a call center and being called every name in the book, I left and swore I'd never work in that field again.

Does teach you a lot of empathy, though, as well as the cumulative damage hearing nasty comments on a daily basis has on your mental health.

  • TY @hillbillyclaudmain69 and @bm33 for the information. I'd been reluctant to turn Crossplay off due to queue times, but I'm going to give it a try! I'm willing to try anything to keep the match from turning into a dumpster fire I can't slog through.

  • @ToxicMyers I had one like this last night against a Myers in hospital gown. I was the only one who stayed and it broke my heart because he didn't get to use his scratched mirror add-on 😭

Every time I approached him for a hook, he turned his back on me. He finally opened the exit gates and I left him my tool box. It was sad.

  • Lol @EntitledMyersMain Don't be a Debbie Downer (although red ranks scare me shitless) :p

Congratulations, I'm glad you achieved your goal! But please make sure you continue to have fun- that's the 1st priority :)

"Unhook someone who previously unhooked you"

The amount of luck this takes if you dont have a friend to intentionally throw for it is ludicrous

    That's a good point. It's almost like devs are...ENCOURAGING SWF 🤫

  • Omg, you have a super soothing voice 😭 Keep streaming!

  • I think if you can get 2/3 categories covered, you can keep things versatile and have more plays open to you. My weakness is looping so I concentrate on being stealth support/gen repair.

The build I've found most successful for solo q I run on my Cheryl main: Spine Chill/Sprint Burst/Plunderer's Instinct/Kindred.

Kindred gives me the info to know if I should stay on gen or make a save. If I stay on gen, SC will give me warning me when I need to stealth. If I do have to make a save or escape, Sprint Burst gives me a head start to making a successful play.

And Plunderer's Instinct might seem like a bizarre choice, but hear me out. Killers tend to bring less agressive add-ons when the lobby has empty-handed survivors. If you want to trigger a Killer into bringing a mori, just have a lobby where all survivors bring an item.

Once I'm in match and find a good opportunity, I grab whatever I find in a treasure chest, and since I use the rare perk, I can pull anything like a rainbow map or purple flashlight/med kit. Those unexpected items will instantly give you more options and advantages.

The way I see it, the match actually begins in the Lobby. Observe your teammates and what items they bring and consider what perks they might be running based on their character. Because a good Killer should be observing the Lobby, too, and assessing what level of threat your team is. Mindgame here, if you can, by appearing as non-threatening as possible.

  • It's really odd, you'd think they'd want the playerbase to get amped about future events and garner momentum. Where is the marketing department in all this? It's not a slam, I'm legit curious why so much info comes from second hand sources instead of direct interaction with the community. I feel it's a missed opportunity.

I figured. But why DC against Ghostface, and a memey one at that? All I wanted to do was go fast. I was definitely trying to grab, they even slow vaulted some for me, but didn't happen. Probably just got the timing wrong.

I feel you, half the fun is getting a match you can meme in. I've noticed a lot of DC's with him, too, and I think it's because of his crouch ability. It really changes the mechanics and I think some survivors really dislike that aspect.

  • I'm just here to offer free hugs to anyone who wants one, and send wishes thru the ether for good luck in life and in the Fog 🤗

  • Whelp, I did it- gave them their blood money to get the last 14 tiers, and let me tell you, it was worth every penny to remove that constant splinter in my brain.

I don't think things will be better next Rift, but based on so much negative feedback I'm seeing, I doubt their next one will be as profitable for them. This Rift has left a bad taste in the mouths of many players and I think we'll see far fewer willing to buy the pass next time. I know I won't.

  • Fungoose was really informative to watch, fully recommend. He gives great play by play narrative and I picked up a lot of things I hadn't known previously.

  • I had trouble with it, too. I think I ended up using add-ons.

@GoodBoyKaru do you need to completely uncloak? I thought you could just do a quick ring and run 🤔

  • @ringwinning I didn't get a diagnosis until I was in my 30's. By that time I already had a spouse, child, and graduated from business school. So please believe me when I tell you a diagnosis doesn't have to define your life. What it CAN do is help you through meds if you go that route, but more important, it can teach you skills and strategies to manage your day to day.

I've just accepted that I need to take a planner everywhere and cultivate habits to make my life less chaotic. You will be OK, but always here to listen if you need.

If your mental health is at risk because of a video game, then I think competitive games are not for you. Try playing Animal Crossing instead..

Lol, this advice sounds harsh but there's wisdom in it! I play mainly survival/psychological horror games, and I will tell you I can't handle it 24/7. There's only so many jump scares, so much drab color pallets and melancholy soundtracks I can expose myself to before I get depressed.

When that happens, I go play something upbeat and colorful. Not everyone needs a break, but I know I do, and no judgment if you do or not. We all love games and should support each other. If any of you ever need to talk or are in a bad place, this is an invitation to have a conversation with me.

Gaming and psychology are very well linked, developer's have got our number and our wallets. One book that you might find helpful is by game game designer Jane McGonigal, called SuperBetter. Great theories, but nothing you can really practice with DbD.

Hey dude love the video's you do but gotta throw this out there, "feelings are overrated"....I completely agree with Orion, this is an adult game, no children here to care about there feelings

Lol, what kind of nonsense is this? Adults still have feelings and the right to express them. Also, I feel like I should be able to vent just a little- I bought the pass at the beginning. Then my kiddos daycare shut down this week due to a confirmed case of covid.

So atm I parent during the day, and because I want to keep my job, work from home at night. I mean I feel like I'm doing a great job adulting, but when am I supposed to grind out those last tiers? 🤷‍♀️

  • Lol @ZCerebrate I'm giggling at the image of chasing down an ice cream truck in a Maserati 🤣

@twistedmonkey I hope you know that even though we have different perspectives on this subject, I still respect your opinion. There's lots of different reasons ppl play and what playstyle they have objectives in. I'm not a competitive person, but I do tend to take on challenges for completionism. To each their own, and may we all enjoy our time in the Fog as much as possible <3

As An adult I choose not to participate in the rift in any meaningful way. How do I do this you ask?

Firstly I don't care about meaningless cosmetics so I never purchase it.

Second I only do challenges but I don't go out of my way to do them and I only do them for extra blood points.

I don't care if I get rift tiers I care for blood points only.

You see you do have a choice to not let it get to you. Personally I feel those that feel they NEED to finish it want to blame a system rather than look into themselves about why they themselves feel this way.

I feel people are too quick to push the blame onto others for a decision only they alone can make. Its a blame shifting mentality for one's own issues.

I dunno, I'm still here thinking about @SpaceCoconut 's example and how it perfectly encompasses that feeling. To play off that example, you're basically indifferent to ice cream, so you're not invested in it.

But for those of us who DO want the ice cream (the Rift Tiers), we do feel a sense of disappointment- that despite running as fast and as hard as we could, we just didn't make it. It feels like wasted effort.

No bro you got it all wrong, You play survivor so you must be toxic, IF you play survivor and aren't toxic, you a liar /s.

SHHHH! It's supposed to be a secret, bro!

  • I think for me it's because this is my 1st Rift, and had no idea what to expect. I've put in the grind but the last chapter of the tome I've barely been able to complete, and freely admit it's due to not having enough hours in the game or having enough perks built up to help complete them. Still frustrating, though.

  • Let us have a moment of silence for our brothers and sisters who have lost all hope of completing the Rift.

Tome V releases on Tuesday October 20th according to popular sources... some of the challenges tie in with the Halloween event. So it’s imagined that the event will begin on or around that date. Nothing’s ever certain tho, since it depends on wether or not everything Tome/event-wise is ready enough to be released.

Thank you, I will have to look out for it. Now I'm really curious about what some of the challenges could be!

"What I'm talking about are the games where Killers don't even give you a chance to play. They deny hook trades and chase you rather than the saving party until your dead 3 minutes into a game you waited 10 minutes to play."

    couple things here...

    1. a killer is suppose to do what u described in your scenario. anything else is just stupidity. or u just want to let them go for whatever reason.
    2. killer shaming and accusations is not helping the 10 min wait time. u should actually thank the killer for playing the most hated role. next time a killer does that, just thank the killer for playing that role. ive done it before. it feels amazing. and the killer appreciates that i had good sportsmanship compared to other survivors who accuse him of a no skill camper. some of them switch to survivor role and play games w me. if you stop hating on the killers, more ppl will play killers, and u wont have 10 min. my wife plays DBD, and she hates playing killer becuz of the hordes of toxic messages she gets from survivors. so she just plays survivor and adds onto the 10 min wait time.
    3. u should change ur mentality about this game. this is not a fair game. this is a 4vs1 game. u could say that it's a fair game due to other natures of the game. but its irrevelant. u should try to think that when u play as a survivor, u and 3 other ppl are the agressive tresspassers who came to harrass 1 person by touching his generators and hitting him w pallets, flashlighting his face, looping him and than showing him ur butt becuz u feel superior and u want to make sure u let him know that he sucks. if u could think like this, than u would be a lot better off playing DBD. but if u are offended that the killer killed u, and the way he did it was thru tunneling, than u should pick another game to play.

I don't know what else to tell you other than you are making massive assumptions about my thoughts and playstyle, which is frustrating. Rather than try to understand where I'm coming from, you're giving me a 'Cognitive To-Do' list that you're suggesting I complete or this game's not for me. How is that helpful?

So you may be shocked to hear that I'm one of the nicest survivors to encounter in game- because if I have nothing nice to say, I say NOTHING at all. That includes t-bagging, flashlight clicking, etc. But frequently I DO message the Killer praise or encouragement even after...wait for it....even AFTER THEY KILL ME. So I'm not sure where you've gotten the idea I hate on Killers?

And why do I do this? Because I HAVE played Killer, and I know first hand how irritating it can be dealing with toxic/rude survivors. I usually solo q but when I SWF, it's with the Killers I've befriended WHILE playing survivor.

So I'm politely telling you that it's not for you to decide whether or not I should play this game. That would be judgemental on your part, and despite this thread being in "Discussion", only each player can decide for themselves if they want to keep playing. Stop trying to run players off.
