I believe it’s MMR that’s an issue. Whether it be backfilling or way too lax. I’ve just had a match against a p100 Wesker with 4 slowdowns and his best add ons against me and 3 baby gents….

the next match a 0 prestige wraith going for adept against 4 of us with 2-;3k hours each. I think they need to be stricter

We kinda did this to ourselves with the MMR. Every time they ask this community if they prefer queue times vs. quality matchmaking, the resounding answer is always queue times. Their system gets one shot at a fair-ish trial, and then that gets borked when there's a dodge & backfill. So much of this problem is on us.

You as a solo player dont know what every other survivor is capable off.

I would think knowing what build you are running would be helpful in identifying what type of survivor you are, but why can't we show all survivors what everyone is running? Well survivors will dodge lobbies if they don't like those builds. But doesn't that then raise a different question in if that is the case why are those survivors even be matched in the first place?

Show builds in-game on the offerings screen or something, at the very least.

Last time I played on Borgo it was dead zone central.

It does kill a lot of stealth Killers.

That's a valid point. What the efffff is my beloved Piggly Wiggly supposed to on Borgo?!?! And the change to STBFL isn't exactly doing her any favors either.

She's just falling more and more behind...

  • @Shroompy said:

In my opinion each killer should have their own pool of maps. This would help with balance SO much and would avoid things like Billy on Lerys or Dredge on Haddonfield.

You could also make it lore accurate by saying something along the lines of: "The Huntress has stepped outside of her domain and can be seen roaming around parts of the Autohaven Wreckers and the Garden of Joy."

I love the lore-specific idea, like saying Doc is extending his experiments into Gideon or Hawkins!

They should also add that before you start a game, hope 2024 is gonna be the year of qol changes.

I too hope some form of showing loadouts is added.

However I'm dubious about showing it pre-trial as it can worsen the lobby dodging issues we already have. Running perks to do challenges or dailies will get you dodged, and forget about the adepts, especially David's.

But the mobile version does this, so it's worth testing out imo.

  • @Adaez said:

I feel like the root of all problems in DBD is the map balance, how am I supposed to do anything on a map like Borgo on a killer with no mobility that kills all stealth as well.

Soloq biggest problem is lack of communication which can be easily fixed by using emotes communicating with your teammates which DBD mobile has and yet we don't .

Sfw will fall in line once the map balance would be better since no more abusing broken loops or take advantage of big map loaded with pallets.

I've always believed the true advantage of SWF is much better quality control over your teammates.

Sure near-instant comms can be strong, but overall knowing your mates builds, tendencies, strengths & weaknesses all matter more. You also have the benefit of knowing they won't leave you behind, and if they're doing challenges or dailies too. Solo Q gets none of that, and cannot realistically get it either outside of showing builds somewhere, prolly in-game.

While most of what you're saying has merit, the part where Killers could take over if one DCs sounds off.

Most of the time, a Killer DCs because they are either severely outmatched, being trolled (both often come together) or are seconds away from losing (all Survivors are waiting at exit gates to click/teabag and the Killer just DCs to deny any potenti gate survival challenges and to skip the 2 minute wait time).

Having someone take over during those instance would feel pretty bad. Imagine waiting to start a game and then ending up in a game that ends seconds later or ending up against a God-tier 4-man way out of your league. Additional points or not, this wouldn't feel good.

Not to mention the mechanic would have part of it's efficiency paywalled since (I assume) a player couldn't join a game as a Killer they don't own/using perks they don't own. Which also greatly reduces the mechanic's potential for new players and/or players that aren't spending much on the game.

    All this is unfortunately true.

To it I would add the notion of inserting players into ongoing matches would ignore their matchmaking altogether. That would almost guarantee gross mismatches every time, far worse than the backfilling problem we already have.

    [Xbox Series X]

When you're Intentionally appearing offline on Xbox such as to avoid party/game invites from others you will still appear online for friends through Dead by Daylight. It would be a nice change if you appeared offline on DbD as well when you're not in the mood to play with others.

I don't believe the devs can make this happen. Xbox's various player visibility policies require stuff like this always be seen by other players. It's the reason DBD's Anonymous Mode cannot be used on Xbox, even though all of the other platforms the game is on can use it.

  • Each and every time the DC penalties are turned off, evil things always follow. Always.

The amount of DC's for the slightest inconvenience is exponentially increased whenever they're off, and games get quickly out of control.

Let me ask again, Why is it important for you to see my profile? - its none of your or anyone else that i dont know's buisness.

Why do i need to be a well known streamer to have the right to be anon?

At least you have the option to use Anonymous Mode. Those of us on Xbox can't even use it.

  • The notion of just turn off CrossPlay is not really an option.

The way their system works is if I turn off CrossPlay on my Xbox Series X then now I'll only be matched up with others only on Xbox Series X who also have it turned off. So no one on any of the PlayStations or Steam or Epic or Windows or Switch. And also no one on Xbox1. And also no one on Xbox Series S or X who has CrossPlay still on. Tiny pool indeed.

Try it some time. I'd get a match once an hour if I'm lucky.

I lose a match, I move on, I really dont care if I lose to SoloQ or SWF (or a mix of the two).

    Healthiest approach by far imo.

  • So maybe it's time to test out no lobbies at all? 🤔

As a bonus it would also kill off that last second swapping bs survs can do as well.

  • @Crowman said:

Just lobby dodge if it really bothers you to play with an anon player. It's really weird how people get when you can't stalk and harass someone by seeing their profile.

He dropped chase once. He also won that game at two gens.

Chucky also won that game at three gens.

Trickster downed me, ignored Laurie and hooked me. Then he did the EXACT same thing on my last hook.

Clearly, I'm doing something wrong. My own individual skill doesn't matter whatsoever and nothing I do in the match matters. I am completely beholden to the mood of the Killer I'm playing against and that is a horrible ######### feeling and it makes me want to never touch this game again as Survivor. That's really unfortunate because Killer is FAR too easy to be a challenge and I've already pushed that envelope as far as I can

    Hello there everyone!

After a recent exchange with Peanits where we briefly touched upon the issue of balanced games with the Skill Based Match Making and the statistics that are derived of the trials by the dev team ( https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3591596#Comment_3591596 ), I decided to do a little informal experiment and see how balanced my matches felt and what "objective" results I got in regards to the SBMM.

I believe this gives a rough estimate of what matches are like in the 1600+ MMR skill bracket, which is the second highest one, followed by the soft cap that was recently raised. I believe that based on my opponents and teammates in the past, many of whom I cannot possibly fathom to be under the 1600 mark (Otz, Hens333, True, KnightLight and these are just the names I recognize).

I usually play anonymous mode, but for this experiment, I made my profile public and played as Yui, who for the most part, doesn't seem to come with a lot of perceived stereotypes as I wanted my matches to be as general as I could possibly make them. I played all games with the same loadout (Lithe, OTR, Prove, We'll Make It) + a brown medkit. I never dodged and I played to win, which meant that if I could, I prioritized my escape, but was willing to throw myself at the killer if that resulted in the rest of my team successfully escaping. I also set out to only give up a match if 2 people DC-ed or went next on hook.

All matches were played a week after Chucky was released and before the Chill event began to sample the "usual" games that are played. This coincided with flashlights being disabled so results might be skewed in that regard.

    Match results:

    4k: 28 matches

    3k: 12 matches

    2k: 11 matches

    1k: 24 matches

    0k: 25 matches

I actually only died in 48 of the trials which resulted in a significantly higher escape rate than usual, which I consider to be the result of the flashlights being disabled and survivors being less likely to waste time trailing the killer. Still, for the original purpose of this experiment, I feel like it supports my perception of the SBMM system, most games are heavily favoring one side and "balanced" trials (however you define them) are exceedingly rare.

I even rated all matches subjectively on a scale of 1-5 where 1 was the P100 Nurse 12 hooking the team before a single gen was done and 5 being the one where the killer couldn't get a single hook by the time the exit gates were opened.

    5/5: 14 matches

    4/5:: 30 matches

    3/5: 19 matches

    2/5: 22 matches

    1/5: 15 matches

Very similar results, although on this occasion, the balanced matches were not the least common. Obviously, this being completely subjective means that how accurate of a picture they paint is questionable.

Hook states are tracked in the spreadsheet document at the end of this post.

    Tunneling

One statistic that I kept track of was tunneling. I had 3 categories here. Hard tunneling, which meant that the killer would focus on the first survivor they hooked exclusively, until they were either dead, escaped through the gates or the killer lost sight of them and had to pick another target. Soft tunneling were cases where somebody was tunneled immediately off the hook, but not as the first survivor that got hooked. For the purposes of this experiment, I did not consider tunneling after the last gen popped to be tunneling. Tally was as follows:

    Hard tunneling in 47 matches.

    Soft tunneling in 15 matches.

No tunneling at all or until end game: 38 matches.

A very interesting question in the survey may shed light on why Cross Progression is taking so long.

I don't have a screenshot but the question was basically:

"Would you be open to Cross Progression if you could only carry over characters you bought ingame, rather than through DLC"

It seems that character unlocks through DLC may be much harder to carry over, perhaps there are legal problems with the DLC being tied to that platform's company and so they can't allow the unlocks to be transferred to another platform.

This would mean you would have to purchase the individual characters with Auric Cells or Iri Shards for them to be available on other platforms.

Being able to carry over all of their leveling, items & cosmetics would likely be most player's priority over DLC's. It would suck in my case as I never got a character with shards just through DLC's.

Too bad all this wasn't sorted out before they ported the game over to the consoles. Or the numerous reasons why Cross Progression has consistently been asked for in the first place.

Recoding the game isn't a simple task that can be churned out. It's going to take years for them to recode everything. But importantly, I'm pretty sure the dev team is already slowly working on recoding aspects of their code.

We've seen some innovation stuff with some recent killers. Xeno's underground map, Chucky's 3rd person camera, Singularity's bipod cameras. I doubt any of this stuff was possible for them years ago.

They've said in the past it's too late to add a replay system in, it would had to been in the original coding apparently. One of the reasons why I'd love them to recode the game.

Xeno's tunnels look like they're based on Demo's portals. Chuck's pov and model likely came from Victor. I'd have to think about the various parts of Singularity to see where they came from, if not actually new. Don't play him anymore too poopy with a controller. I think they said it takes a year's time to do a killer.

    It’s also dbd mobile.

The platform has been out for a fraction of the time OG DBD has and yet there are so many things they have implemented that the community wants ranging from QOL to great skins/alternate moris and even a new game mode recently.

Naturally people would look at all this new stuff and ask themselves “Why doesn’t the OG game have all these? What are devs so busy with where even implementing QOL changes may take months if not years?” Sure the public may not be aware of the workflow that OG dbd has going on, but that is where PR has to come in to manage expectations and portray things in a better light.

The devs are all great people, but I think the PR in responding to questions could be handled better.

The comment that Otz talked about in his video regarding showing perks in the lobby definitely could have been phrased to something like “We have a lot lined up now but we’ll do our best to slot it in when we can!”

The reply acknowledging that nothing could be done about suiciding on hook sounded so … desolate. I could even sense that the dev replying had no idea how to resolve hook suicides and had no intention of trying. Even if that is the internal opinion of the dev team, it’s not something that should be acknowledged to the public. Once again it could have been PR-ed better.

As much as I get the point of the AMA is to be truthful as much as possible, the comments don’t just reflect the opinion of the devs but of the company itself. I’m not going to assume only one dev thinks that hook suicides can’t be fixed when I read the reply, I’m going to assume that BHVR as a whole is aware of hook suicides and acknowledges officially that it can’t be fixed.

The PR needs to be better.

The mobile version was coded from scratch by an entirely different team than BHVR. That's why they have different features than the PC/Console version.

I do wish they would recode the game. So many things could be added, like a match replay system, and bugs would likely be easier dealt with.

Really sad to see, especially when it's coming from a Fog Whisperer. Just shows how powerless they are to improving DBD which is just silly. Most of his takes are accurate and reflect a majorities opinion but we need to fight here for BHVR to fix the stupidest things that are constantly shared online to no avail. Like what's even the point of providing innovative feedback if they just note it and forget about it because they are lazy. No other word for it, just laziness.

I have my own thoughts on the Fog Whisperer program, but it has seemed like they're all just store fronts & marketing for years now.

Part of Otz's frustration clearly comes from believing his feedback & suggestions have had little to no effect for a while now. I remember Tru saying the same years ago, back when he still was a Whisperer.

It boils down to thinking maybe you're making a difference and then getting that bitter disappointment feeling when you become sure you don't, and maybe never did.

Why would a map feel repetitive just because of its smaller size? Big maps are a huge issue for killers without mobility and the map size does not necessarily provide for problems with 3 gens, since they basically appear on all maps regardless of size.

Maps don't need to be super small, but they should also not be as big as mothers dwelling...

One of the Swamps used to be even bigger than Mother's Dwelling, back in the day.

  • @GeneralV said:

What I believe is worse than the lack of innovation is how the content is being handled.

Look, I understand some of my opinions aren't popular and that many people do not share the love I have for the Old DBD, but surely everyone can see how some things weren't handled properly.

Take Billy, for example. No one asked for an overheat or for Billy to get nerfed, and he was.

No one asked for the style and overall atmosphere of the game to change completely, and it did.

Killer design is getting less and less creative, usually a repetition of anti-loop killers that you can only counter by holding W and pre-dropping pallets, while the older killers suffer with unnecessary changes.

Mix the lack of innovation with bad changes made to innovative content and you get DBD's current state.

Billy was their most balanced best designed killer back then. Everyone loved him. Fun to play, very fun to verse. All he needed was add-on tweaks and that was it. Now......

I certainly share your love of the old maps, the old game really. Miss it terribly. 💝
