Us consolers have been wondering that for going on 7 years.

In consolation, I offer up some Puppers cosplaying Quentin on the old Thompson House map. Was vs a slug Billy. Puppers ran him soooooo bad, then collected his Trophy from that event.

The timing of all of this is crushing. A lot of new & returning players since the last killer was released, and then it's Freddy trap after Freddy trap to the face. 😕

I don't think console players are effected. EAC is Easy Anti Cheat that uses many games including DbD and there is atm maybe exploit that bypass or uses EAC to instal malware and bad stuff on your PC or something like that. That twitter post explains it much better.

Eac stands for easy anti cheat which is a software dbd and a lot of games use
And rce stands for remote code execution and having an exploit that allows it is extremely bad as it could lead to someone who knows the exploit to run malicious code on your device and get full control of it which is really bad
@GoodBoyKaru said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3679253#Comment_3679253
so Easy Anti-Cheat is used in a lot of games, created and developed by Epic Games, same people behind Fortnight and Unreal Engine (which DBD also uses). It basically runs by validating files when the game is booted at a kernal-level (which is one-step beyond what a System-Administrator is able to do), similar to a lot of other anti-cheats.
RCE stands for Remote Code Execution, and is a type of malicious attack when a third party is able to gain access to your computer, and then run code on it at whatever level they have access to, essentially hijacking it. It can be anything from moving a mouse to collecting all personal information stored on (and anything inputted essentially ever in the future lol) to locking down your entire computer and confiscating the files in what's known as a ransomware attack (and they make you pay them to unlock your files and leave you be, until they get bored at which point they can re-lock your files if you don't do a thorough wipe to get rid of said malicious code).
So, in this scenario as the fault is with EAC, which runs at a kernal-level, anyone exploiting the fault with EAC is able to enter your system at a level higher than ordinary users can actually see, and run code that you would be wholly unaware of because you cannot access that level yourself, to steal information and hijack your system for whatever purposes they want. That's my understanding of it, anyway.
I'm sure it could affect consoles, but I'm not sure why you would. They're often locked down pretty tight at all levels, and anything that can be done on a console could be done on a PC with substantially less effort. You're more likely to get your account and console banned for tampering than you would be to have your personal information relinquished from them, so while I wouldn't advise it you're probably safer there than you are on PC.
Again, this is all from my own understanding, and if I've gotten something wrong please do let me know.
Ty to you all I appreciate the insight! 🙂
-
Educate me please. As a lowly consoler I'm unfamiliar with terms like RCE and EAC and the like. What's going on? What do I need to do or look for?

You can only guess based on playtime of players against you.
How many cheaters you play against is a good guess too.
Sadly there's much truth in that second part. The super sweaty area of DBD seems to attract most of the hacking and cheating.

Nothing worse than trying to open the 99'd gate and healing instead. Or dropping the pallet. Or slow vaulting a pallet with the chain hunt all over you.
Get the actions separated as much as you can.

Ahhhh yes, Tinkerer Billy and Tinkerer Blight. Good times.
I remember in the olden days in the long long ago when Tinkerer increased killer powers by like 25% or sumsuch. Machine Gun Huntress was the biggest offender back then. The before times were something else!

If I had to guess its because the lunge hitbox is a cone that goes out and starts out at eye level. Since a Survivor on a hook is higher up, it will prioritize them.
All you have to do tho is lunge around and flick to the Survivor thats unhooking.
Flicks are kinda unheard of with a controller and console fps...

You're referring to hitting the surv as they're being unhooked when you are going for the surv doing the unhooking, and at that moment they have i-frames. This has been in the game forever it seems. For some reason it priorities the surv being saved with these hits. Can be supremely frustrating.

So, jumping to PC without any progression! Daunting task imo to regrind my friend. Us consolers will miss our biggest advocate at the Tuesday meetings! 😁
-
Also, think of new players seeing an even more daunting task to unlock everything, knowing there's four versions of what something like 250 perks?
-
@Shroompy said:
I think the only Tier 4 perks we should get are when you use teachables on their corresponding character. Instead of giving a new effect, it should scale at 50% of what the normal bonus gives. For Bond for example would like 20/28/36/40m, or Agitation would go like 6/12/18/21%.
There wouldnt be any extra grind in the bloodweb either, instead of unlocking the "Very Rare" Tier 3 perk on the bloodweb it would jump straight to the "Ultra Rare" Tier 4 perk.
This would mainly encourage more build variety, as well as making Survivors a bit more than just skins for veterans. It wouldnt be impactful enough to have an effect on the meta, it would simply be a fun little addition.
So No Mither would prevent blood puddles and grunts by 150% at their 4? 😋
-
I'm thinking the bloodweb is already too bloated.

Requirements for upvoting:
Option to avoid matching anonymously
Option to avoid matching with people who have a history of bans and vac violations on their Steam account
Option to only match with players with very close MMR
Option to avoid matching with item owners (even as a survivor, there are times when I want to avoid with flashlights, as they will skip gen completion)
1. Players turn on Anonymous Mode for a variety of reasons, mostly legit reasons. Plus Xbox players cannot even use their Anonymous Mode anyway. This would exclude so many players and overdraw from one platform at the same time.
2. Kinda ok with this one. Do remember most of the playerbase is on the consoles though, not Steam.
3. I wish. They've tried very tight MMR and the players hated it. The sweats constantly got the sweats only, and they quickly grew tired of it. Queue times worsened and killer & perk variety plummeted.
4. I'm betting most survs run with some kind of item most of the time. This option would hurt queue times badly.

Has Trickster graduated from this list with his recent changes?

I've seen many comments about that the overall size of this map (and Borgo plus a few others) is too big.
Here's the thing, shrinking maps shoves the gens closer together by default, increasing the likelihood of the awful three gens from the start. Which they're actively working to reduce in several ways.
Perhaps a better approach would be tweaking some of the slower killers and/or their powers so they have better map presence and chase potential.

I think it's time to say goodbye to solo queue. I would prefer to continue soloing because I can play whenever I want, and I'm not always with the same people who play the same way so there's more variety and I kind of like the unpredictability, but it's gotten so bad and BHVR is stubbornly ignoring any issues. I don't need any more bloodpoints (all characters I care about are P3 at least), in fact I'm sitting on 5 1/2 million BPs at the moment and don't know what to spend them on. Without reasons to grind, the only reason left to play for me is having a good time which I often don't have in solo.
With the event coming up, I would like to have people to play with, otherwise this will be the first event that I'm missing since I started playing, so I'm a bit under time pressure.
I have no idea how to start even though it's probably simple. Anyone here who went from solo to full SWF and has an encouraging story to share or tips?
Places I know where people are looking for teammates are Reddit and various Discords. I once tried Reddit to find people to do the old "Where did they go?" trophy. It ended up rather meh, and I learned that merely playing SWF does not mean all is well. On multiple Discords I only see short "who wants to play with me?" posts, no-one mentions what's their experience, playstyle and expectations. Also people seem to be looking for the next-best person available to play right that moment, while I'd really prefer to play regularly with the same folks.
My most successful attempt to SWF players for awhile was back on PS4 with crossplay off. When I played as killer the survivors would occasionally message me after a match. Some of them offered me to join their group after a bit of chatting, and the good thing was that because I already played against them I knew how they played and whether I wanted to join them. That wasn't really a possibility anymore after switching to PS5 with crossplay on and no after-game chat.
So, any recommendations for best places to find players (I'm in Europe so ideally not too US-focused)?
Then I'm constantly worrying about what could go wrong:
- ending up with people who are really bad and don't even mind/don't care to improve because they still love the game (I once met someone like that! It would break my heart to tell them to look for others to play with, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being bad and still enjoying the game, but I really enjoy not having to rely on getting the absolutely worst killers to stand a chance to escape)
- ending up with super-casuals who are just messing around and dying all the time and enjoy being victims in a horror game
- ending up with people much better than me so I am a burden to them
- ending up with people who expect everyone to play constantly perfectly, getting mad every time somebody makes a mistakes
- ending up with people being extremely negative and constantly bitching about the game and the devs - it's not like I'm happy with everything but I don't want a Discord call while playing to be DbD Forums The Audiobook.
- ending up with people only capable of very immature communication and making dumb jokes
And that keeps me from even starting to find people to play with. I'd hate to tell people I don't want to play with them anymore (if it's a mutual feeling then it's probably fine). I feel I make it way too complicated for myself.
Again, any tips, experiences going from solo to SWF are appreciated ...
All of the awesome people I met through DBD came from interactions when I used to stream the game, mostly on Mixer back in the day then some on Twitch.
Mixer was built directly into my Xbox, where forming voice parties was and still is super easy to do. I have kept in contact with many of them to this day. Fun to play with, fun to catch up with, and super fun to run with in other games we share interest in.
Most of them were knowledgeable about the game, up to date in changes and perks, and a few superb at the game too.l, with anything "toxic" rare. While I am an ok surv but a lousy killer. But the overall gameplay was still casual in nature, and that helped keep things fun imo.
So it depends on the mindset your looking to connect with I'd say, how sweaty you prefer. Whatever you chose, I really hope you connect with awesome peeps like I did! 😁

Well...first, I'm lowkey...OK highkey offended that it sounds like "bully squad" seems to be grouping in all SWF teams. I play in a SWF, and we're not bullies. Second, let's be honest, unless the SWF members are all rocking names that are CLEARLY associated with each other, the only way a killer is even going to know they are going up against a SWF is if they stream snipe before the match starts. Which I personally think is bad form. Like most game developers think and are against, and like most streaming platforms are against and even hand out bans for. But BHVR informed me via email that they are ok with stream sniping and that its not against any rrule. Makes me wonder why the killer gets to be gatekept and secret. Can you imagine how the game would go if survivors could prepare for a Legion in advance lol. I personally like being surprised with who the killer is. It's a challenge and helps make the game scary. I'm sure killer mains can handle a challenge too. Hide player names until after the match, or make it penalty to back out of lobbies. For both survivors and killers. And before someone says there's a feature to hide names, as a Twitch streamer, I want my name to show so that the Randoms I play with and even the killer, can come by AFTER the match and chat it up. So, just like we can't see the killer name until the match is over, give survivors the same protection. Then maybe lobby dodging will stop.
You have one of the best forum usernames I've seen in a while! Love it!! 😀

They didn't want the information now on the hud to be given out for free, though. It goes entirely against their immersion focus in the early days of the game. I also think that the code is only so much of an excuse, since they had a full conversion to C++ and the engine updates (which would have been a perfect time.)
And I agree that most SWFs don't utilize what they have available to them, thats why I liked the post game suggestion. I guess we kinda got a little off topic with the intent discussion.
Yeah slightly off topic, but still a useful connected discussion. And very civil between us! 🙂

I bet if they got rid of prestiges and sifting through profiles and such their MMR system would work fairly well.
-
Aren't most codes these days only valid for like 12 hours or something?
-
Putting the perks in the lobby has been asked for so many times over the years I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. At first it would lead to a bad dodging problem, which imo would dissipate over time. Good luck doing No Mither stuff and several achievements/trophies though.
If not in the lobby, i would like to see this info within the trial, maybe where the players & offerings are. No dodging problem there, and some synergy could be possible then.
Your teammates could then check to see if anyone has things like Deliverance or Unbreakable or even Head On and act more intelligently.

But they are info that comms can share for free, effectively giving them free perk slots. Maybe a better question would be why it took so long for the HUD info update?
I'd blame that length of time on their struggles with their own coding over the years.
You are right that many perks are free for those on comms. The stealth killers are definitely hurt by it, and some builds like using hexes and Knockout etc.
But most SWF never fully utilize those comms to anywhere near their full potential, not like the super sweats can. The average surv teams aren't calling out grid clock locations and the like to each other.

I had a game yesterday on Survivor where we only gave up two hooks total. We completely outplayed the Killer. I was opening the exit gates and then the match abruptly ended. So naturally I thought that the Killer DC’d right? Well in the end game results it showed that it was the Killer who disconnected as well as ME!
I didn’t get any bloodpoints and my little icon had the disconnect icon even though I didn’t dc at all. At this point I don’t even know if the Killer legitimately disconnected or not, but we both missed out on Bp as if we both did.
This has happened before and I’m worried that I’m going to get a DC penalty. I haven’t even purchased the new chapter yet because I’m so worried about it.
What’s worse is that I pride myself on never disconnecting no matter the circumstances. It’s just so sad that this is happening.
That thing where it shows both you and the killer DC'd has been in the game for years now. It was inconsistent for me whether I'd get a penalty or not, but most times I did not.
When it happened while I was in a group, they'd inform me I left but the match continued, so the killer remained. That tells me it was a visual mess up showing both of us DC'd.

if they are intended, then why are there so many info perks in the game? why is there no baseline communication (see: not voice) beyond pointing and beckoning? Why have the devs made the famous 1v1v1v1v1 comment?
As for "why add it?", did you ever consider pc players may not be discord friends with their teammates (or even on discord at all?) Ditto for consle players with their platform"s friend system, noted separately since crossplay wasn't added until later on? You're welcome to stop projecting you moron comment by the way, as I have neither said nor insinuated it.
I imagine the info & aura perks are primarily for those not on comms, and a few are useful even on comms.

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3674754#Comment_3674754
The game is specifically designed with no communication in mind. SWF being planned from the start was necessary, as evidenced by the lobby shopping that happened in the short time before its introduction in 1.0.3 kinda proved. If comms were intended, there would have at least been some consideration to adding comms to the game, either text/voice/both, but its always a stanch NO.
SWF was always intended to be in the game, but it was never the intended target for balancing the game. its a 1v1v1v1v1 after all apparently.
Yeah SWF was always intended, and it's use varies greatly by region.
But I think it's safe to say they underestimated the effects of comms with long term very good players.
-

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3674689#Comment_3674689
Again, regardless of whether they utilize their advantage properly, they still have one. Most SWFs aren't an issue but they still have access to something the game was not designed for, voice comms. BP is something that has no impact on gameplay nor balance and would be simply a bonus for going up against such an advantage (Therefore making it a good compensation metric, rather than something gameplay/balance related) Their suggestion also said to give a bonus to solos paired with a SWF a bonus as well, which I also agree with.
Yup yup. I'm after a more carrot approach rather than the ban & nurf stick.

@Chaosrider said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3674651#Comment_3674651
Why should killer get bp bonus against swf? Like, most of those swf dont play better than four solos. Stop guessing swf equal godmode.
I'm aware of the latest stats. What I'm looking at is the psychological effect it could have after the trial for the killer.
Should they have a difficult game, and see they went against two dous or a duo and two solos, their ire for all SWFs lowers. If they steamroll a three-man or four-man, their ire again lessons. Should that four-man defeat them, then they get that bonus to lessen the pain some.
Here's where some kind of replay system would help. Most players do not record, and they've said it's apparently near-impossible to add such a system. So players have less opportunity to review their actions and mistakes, let alone what their opponents did, and learn.
-
Show SWF and prestiges post-game. Give a BP bonus to killers who faced a three-man or four-man. Grant the solo surv with a three-man a bonus as well. That's what I'd like to see done.
Lobby shopping and the resultant backfilling is the single biggest problem with their matchmaking system. We shouldn't be suggesting changes that will worsen that issue.

Playing Oni and Blight makes me so frustrated as they are quite literally just worse on console and there’s no way around that.
I watch myself get 180 flicked by these killers on PC and it is physically not possible to do this on controller as the sensitivity is just not anywhere close to high enough even at max.
Just turns me off so hard from playing them and it sucks because I really like fast paced gameplay.
There is no denying all DBD killers are just better ran with a mouse. There are many motions and so-called "techs" that cannot be replicated with the current settings with a controller on console. Skill expression is hampered and capped. I've always believed their killer powers have been crafted with M&K in mind only.
That rant done, with will and lots of practice most of the killers can be played very effectively. I only consider Singularity unplayable on console, because the recent changes to Trickster dragged him barely above Singularity.
