There are streamers with 1k+ win streaks on killer. Something like that shouldn't be possible in a pvp game with MMR.

Otz is a pro who has done 30 game win streaks on every killer, yet even trying his hardest wasn't able to get a higher than 40% escape rate in solo q. Average solo q player is supposed to be happy losing 7/10 games they play, and then escaping vs an afk killer so the mmr system thinks their win rate is fine?

The win streaks you are talking about are the top 0.01% of players. This does not apply to a vast majority of the player base. The latest stats we have shows that average solo q escape rate is ~40%. If you're consistently escaping less frequently than that, I don't know what else to tell you other than based on the stats you would be on the lower end of the skill curve.

  • The Distortion nerf completely eliminated the stealth playstyle from the game, which is extremely sad. I realize that many consider chases to be the most enjoyable part of the game, but a lot of people enjoy(ed) the stealth playstyle as well. The hide-and-seek element of the game is especially important for new players who aren't yet good at chases/looping. I remember stealth being a very important means of me being able to survive matches before I learned how to last a reasonable amount of time in chase. Now, especially with the amount of aura-reading perks available to killers (and how often I see them in my matches), stealth playstyle isn't even an option. It's really quite sad, and I think is going to turn off new players. The game already has enough trouble attracting and retaining new players given how steep the learning curve is and how much content there is to learn and master.

It got nerfed because it was used too frequently, but nobody bothered asking why it was used so frequently. It was the only way to make a stealth playstyle viable because you see one or more aura-reading perk in just about every single game. When I play killer now, I bring at least one aura reading perk and it helps me TREMENDOUSLY because nobody uses Distortion anymore.

I think that if you're using camping and tunneling effectively, then when you stop using those tactics your kill rate will briefly decrease. Then after a little time, your MMR will drop and you'll face survivors you don't need to tunnel or camp against.

At that point, your skill keeps building as you use other approaches to killer gameplay and you optimize your playstyle. Then your MMR will slowly increase again, but without camping and tunneling :)

Having said that, I think some killers might not be suited for very top MMR play. Like Nurse and Blight might work well against the best survivors, but killers with lower mobility may struggle. My feeling is that when I hit that ceiling with a particular killer, that's where I play, and the MMR system will still match me with manageable survivors.

Your idea is correct, in theory. In practice, however, the SBMM system is completely non-functional, at least in my experience. There is just no consistency whatsoever in the level of players you are matched with/against. As solo q survivor, I'll get matched with brand new players one match, lose, and then get matched with great, experienced players the next. Same thing on the killer side. I'll get matched against a full team of 8,000-hour+ players one match and then total noobs the next.

I'll never be convinced that the SBMM system actually worked until the devs provide us with our MMR scores and show everyone else's in endgame lobbies. That's never going to happen, and I believe the reason is will never happen is because it will reveal that it doesn't actually work.

    players-killer main

just a quick thing for tunnelers and campers its a skill issue if you cant win without it so please practice and change that

im not trying to be mean about it so i hope it didnt come across that way but seriously please think from the survivors pov its just

    join-get tunneled-die-repeat

so eventually people will stop playing if it keeps going on so you wont have fun either

Can you offer up some advice on how to win consistently as killer without ever camping or tunneling? If not, then I can assume that you are just simply trolling killer players

  • I think it's good to allow complaints here. It would be pretty boring otherwise. I really don't have any interest in the "here's my tierlist" or "what's your favorite Sable outfit" type of posts. I'm much more interested in the balance discussions and suggestions for improvements/change to the game, the types of posts which would probably fall within the "complaints" category.

The real problem IMO is the "us vs them" toxicity that comes from posters/commenters who only play one side of the game. They'll accuse the other side of playing in unfun ways, troll the other side by claiming it's way too easy for that side to win (even though they've never played that side themselves), and generally blame the other side for the game's problems. If everyone actually played both sides, this forum would be a FAR less toxic place.

  • It's very frustrating that the devs refuse to implement any ping limits in lobbies. The only possible reason I can think of to not have a ping limit is to not exclude people who have bad internet or are playing in a country without a local server. I get it - you want to be as inclusive as possible - but at the same time it's not fair to ruin other people's games for the sake of inclusiveness.

Just curious - what is an acceptable level of effort that the killer is allowed to exert to try to win so that you won't complain?

I think it is somewhat expected for killers to play as they used to play, as if Old BBQ was still around: spreading hooks and prioritizing the stacks over actually killing survivors.

That doesn't mean people didn't camp, tunnel or slug in the past, because they did. But generally speaking you could expect a killer to play for 12 hooks and I don't think this will ever go away, even if the perk that encouraged this playstyle no longer exists. I still play that way.

I agree that this is what many survivors expect. The problem is that playing "nice" and spreading hooks around basically guarantees 0K for the killer. Most people who play killer actually want to have a chance to win (3-4K) and nobody should get mad about that. Killer players have every right to play to win as survivors do.

Some people on this will claim that it's still possible to win playing "nice" and spreading hooks. Not a single one of them has ever offered up video/links of their own gameplay to demonstrate that this is actually possible.

I've been playing Twins with a slugging build the past few days and almost every game is a 4k. The game is absurdly killer sided right now and the devs should be ashamed of what they've done to a once great game.

Sorry, but I have a hard time believing this. Even professional streamers who play the game 12+ hours a day do not consistently 4K. So either you are one of the top players in the world (I mean, I guess it's possible?) or what you're claiming is not true.

It's perfectly fine for you and others to believe the game is "absurdly killer-sided" - it's a matter of opinion and clearly nobody is going to change you mind. What actually matters is the overall player count and killer-to-survivor ratio. Those are what is going to determine how the devs balance the game. No matter what the kill rate is, there will always be people coming to the forums to complain that they're not having enough fun and that the game favors the other side that they don't play.

  • @sinkra said:

I seriously wonder if devs play their own game or if they're all killer mains. Like how can they play just a few games of solo Q and think it's fine? Killers don't even have to try to win unless it's against some elite swf. It's practically unplayable for solo q right now.

I play solo queue and as long as my teammates are competent players, it's usually pretty competitive. The game stats prove this as well. In solo queue you should be escaping on average ~40% of the time. That seems very reasonable to me for a horror game. When kill rates were closer to 50%, killers were basically just a punching bag for survivors, especially SWF teams with comms. I suggest you try playing killer yourself - you'll probably find it's not as easy as you think it is.

  • The game used to be balanced around a lower kill rate and the devs realized that nobody wanted to play killer, so they had to adjust the balance to get average kill rates up to the current ~60%. People complaining about the game being "survivor-sided" or "killer-sided" need to realize that in this type of asymmetrical game that if one side is happy all the time, that means the other side is miserable all the time. The right level of balance is to have some frustration on both sides, which is where the game is at right now (at least in my experience - I play about 50/50 killer and solo q survivor, SWF very rarely with a couple other friends).

The devs are never going to make changes based on forum complaints — they're going to do it based on the game data. So if you think survivor is such a miserable experience, the only way that's going to change is to stop playing. If the devs see survivor-to-killer ratio getting too much out of balance, they'll adjust the kill rates accordingly. Or, better yet, try playing killer yourself. You'll probably find that it's not as easy as you believe it is.

  • @Ilikechips said:

Its simple, they want killer to be baby mode easy and solo survivor to be terrible.

    That's why.

Just curious - do you play killer yourself? I do, and I sure don't consider it to be "baby mode easy". Am I just bad at the game? I'd love to see some of your killer gameplay so I can learn how to play better.

  • @KA149108 said:

Gates not getting opened, survivors giving up, killers sweating like their mom's lives are on the line. What is the fun aspect here?! What i can get tunneled at 5 gens and then humped for 4 minutes oh great. Seriously I'm getting so sick of this game and if the devs think I'm buying ######### DLC and outfits they can think again!

Just curious - what is an acceptable level of effort that the killer is allowed to exert to try to win so that you won't complain? Should killer players complain if survivors complete the gens and escape too quickly?

Also - what killers are humping survivors for 4 minutes? If killers are doing really that, then it seems like it should be easy for the rest of the survivors to complete all the gens and escape.

  • @ErebusSurge said:

nice to see all the bad killers popping up here to say they have to slug because they can’t get a 4 k any other way..

they also cry about gen rush - killers are very fragile.
I probably play killer 60% of the time and get a 4k 95% of the time. No slugging no tunneling. It’s not hard the game is designed for me to do it with ease.

I play survivor 40% of the time and escape around 5% its hard because the game is designed to not let me out.

There is a huge imbalance in the roles and it’s undeniable. It’s about time people stopped with the fragility and ego and got together and said look we don’t want a death simulator we want a game that’s fun for both sides. Give survivors a chance and make killers work a little bit for their kills.

perma wall hacks and speed boosts and super human reach and teleport all combined are awful for the simulator.

Is it possible for you to make even a single comment that isn't dripping with "us vs them" toxicity? You're contributing nothing to the discussion other than lobbing bombs at the side you don't play.

  • @Kl0bürste said:

If you tunnel at 5 gens, camp and slug the entire game and run a 4 gen regression meta build (or some other op BS) you should be punished for it. Bannable even. Nothing more to say.

OP, please take a few minutes to cool off and think about what you're saying before you come onto the forums to demand that people who are playing within the rules of the game be banned. Even better, try playing killer yourself so you can get some perspective. I guarantee that you will run into some survivor squads playing sweaty AF and abusing every possible thing they can to win and they'll stomp you and you'll probably be frustrated by that. But then maybe you will realize that players on both sides try hard to win, and they are entitled to do so. It's just a game - improve, learn, enjoy your wins and let it go when you lose.

  • Basically it's an easy way for the devs to flag and immediately launch your report into space because you are wasting their time by reporting something that is not reportable.

  • Ah yes I see the problem - the hex totem didn't spawn directly next to a generator like it's supposed to. Probably a bug

  • Playing survivor during the daytime always seems like a lost cause to me (I play solo queue). It's the time when sweaty killer players who probably had some tough matches the previous evening against SWF teams take out their frustrations on poor helpless solo queue survivor teams (which are more prevalent during the daytime when groups of friends aren't playing together). My teammates in daytime solo queue matches always seem way more incompetent than solo queue teammates during the evenings. Not sure why that is.

First of all, communication is not what makes SWF stronger than Solos. It is the reduction of teammate-RNG. As Solo you can have amazing teammates or really bad teammates. And then communication or information also dont matter.

Then there are so many aspects which speak against ingame communication - language barriers, there is already a very potent alternative (Discord), slurs and other bad behavior, people just wanting to immerse themselve and NOT talk to others, etc…

I agree with you that one reason SWF is stronger is you know what you're getting with your teammates, but claiming that communications don't provide an advantage compared to solo queue is being intentionally dishonest, in my opinion. Here are just some of the things that communications enable - please tell me how these don't provide SWF benefits without having to use perk slots that are not available to solo queue teams:

    1. Telling teammates what perks each person is using prior to match
    2. Telling teammates which generator(s) are being worked on and which specific ones are close to being completed
    3. Coordinating which gens to work on to prevent 3-gens and maximize distance between non-completed gens in late game
    4. Calling our killer's location and which direction they are headed
    5. Telling teammates who is going for a save
    6. Telling teammates where they are if they need to be healed
    7. Telling teammates where they are downed so they can be in position for a flashlight or pallet save
    8. Telling teammates what perks the killer has when they find out
    9. Calling out hex totem spawns to teammates if they see one while being chased

I got tired of typing, so I'll stop, but I'm sure there is more. It's just laughable to claim that communications don't provide a significant advantage.

  • It happened to me a few times, but not recently (past week or so).

I play killer 50% of the time and get a 4k 95% of the time. I play survivor 50% of the time and escape 5% of the time…

you don’t need detailed discussion - the devs own it and say it’s killer sided

If this is true, you should play competitively and stream and you could make some good money. Sorry, I'm a bit skeptical on your claim. Even the top streamers who literally play this game as their full-time job don't 4K 95% of the time.

If you're referring to the devs' stated target 60% kill rate, then yes technically by the numbers it's "killer-sided". But we all remember what happened when kill rate were lower. Nobody wanted to play killer and survivor queue times were much longer. The balance has to be based on incentivizing the most people to play on both sides and keep the ratio as close to 4:1 as possible. The devs are telling us that 60% kill rate is the sweet spot. If you play survivor and don't like it, then you will leave and others might leave too and the balance will shift and the devs will have to adjust the target kill rate accordingly. Apparently enough people are happy playing the survivor and killer roles to keep the balance as-is.

  • The reason solo q isn't fun is 100% due to the non-functional matchmaking. I am a solo q player, and I have had many very fun matches but they only happen if I'm paired with competent teammates. Because of the non-functional matchmaking, I am often paired with brand new players - and I am talking literally brand new, like less than 100 hours. Almost every lobby I get thrown into has at least one <300 hour player. I have >2000 hours and consider myself a decent but not great survivor player. I have no problem escaping if put on a competent team. But the matchmaking keeps putting me into no-win scenarios.

Dude, you are so full of vitriol and don't give the other side even one second of consideration.

I humbly asked to to take 3min out of your life and read the long commend I typed up just above yours, which gives a pretty comprehensive look of why we arrived at the game we have now. I would be interested in your thoughts on the matter, if you took a step back and looked at the big picture.

Unfortunately there is a large portion of the player base who prefers to stay in their own "tribe" and refuses to play one side or the other. 90% of the toxicity in the community comes from these players. It's very easy to pick them out based on their forum comments. They refuse to view things for the other side's perspective, don't acknowledge how things that might make the game more fun for them might make it less fun for someone else, and generally blame the other side for all the game's faults. It really comes down to self-centeredness.

  • @Autharia said:

Even if killers had a 75% kill rate, killers would still say it was survivor sided.

Thanks for contributing to more "us vs them" toxicity and adding nothing constructive to the discussion

  • I fully support the idea of a "quitter queue". I heard this exists in some other games and it would be a good way to incentivize not ragequitting. It wouldn't completely get rid of the problem because people will still find a way to get out of a match early without trying, but I think it would help some.

For me, at least, that is not the experience (as much as I want it to be) there are never really any close games anymore where everyone is on the edge of their seat seeing what will happen. It is usually me destroying the survivors because the game hands me solo potatoes/ semi decent chill SWF players or me getting annihilated by a cracked team.

I play killer about 50% of the time and this is my experience as well. Balanced games are extremely rare. I either stomp or get stomped. The only games that are balanced are the rare ones that have maybe 2 SWF and 2 solo or 2 pairs of SWF, all decent players who know how to loop and how to play certain situations but don't have as much of an unfair coordination advantage as a full 4-man SWF team.

I don't know what the ultimate solution is, but a couple things that I think could help:

    1. To help survivors: A completely reworked matchmaking system that actually works and is enforced. Yes it will make queue times longer, but if you're not happy with the status quo of non-functional matchmaking, that's part of the price to pay for improvement. It also needs to be based on other elements of the game besides kills and escapes. It seems insane to me that we can't at least use the emblem system as a starting point and then improve on that.
    2. To help killers: A handicap system for 3/4-man SWF teams based on MMR differential between the team and the killer. Enough to bring the escape rates for SWF at high MMR down at least a little bit. It's not "punishing people for playing with their friends" as many will claim. It's reducing an unfair advantage that non-SWF teams don't get to enjoy to help with the overall competitive balance of the game.

There's never going to be proof, but you can make an assumption based on the skill level of the players you're against - especially considering I played against a member from the best comp team right now (Eternal)

I wouldn't claim you are at high MMR when you have no idea what your MMR score is. I would simply say that you regularly face very good survivors, which could be true even if you are not high MMR because the matchmaking system doesn't work.

I would try playing different, stronger killers. Wraith is pretty weak against good survivors who know how to loop him for ages using pallets and windows and you have to get very good at mind games to counter that.

  • @dwight444 said:

I agree. It seems like they like to only release stats that are very non-controversial and "safe", and are thus also very boring. It's hard to believe large numbers of people were asking for any of these. I certainly have never seen people asking for these specific stats on the forum.

Stats that do get asked for frequently and are interesting:

    1. MMR stats to show how well the SBMM system is working (they probably won't do ever release these because we all know it's completely broken)
    2. Usage rates of perks (these get released very rarely - I don't see any reason they couldn't be kept continuously updated and
    3. Killer and map-specific kill/survival rates by MMR range and number of players in a party. T

#2 and 3 get released very rarely. I don't see why BHVR couldn't keep these updated continuously and always available to see.

Anyone who is claiming that the event is "survivor-sided" clearly does not actually play as survivor. If it's so survivor-sided, why don't you try to play as survivor and show us some of your gameplay of you stomping killer players?

As others have mentioned, survivor going into the Void is a HUGE waste of time for very little reward (a very mediocre smoke bomb that blinds the survivors too). The longer the survivor spends in the Void, the more time killers can kill my teammates without having to worry about generators being done because they know I'm in the Void.

For killers, the Void can be very easily abused and based on my survivor matches it often is. Killers can enter the Void with no downside, and they can easily gain distance on survivors if they enter the portals that the Void provides. Good killers have learned how to abuse the Void realm and haunts projectiles end chases extremely fast. The current meta seems to be to tunnel one survivor out of the game and then use haunts to quickly down and slug the survivor team for the easy 4k.

Why don't you 1) try playing both sides; and 2) try making your own arguments? If you're having such a miserable time playing the event as survivor, then why not switch to killer if it's so easy to win?

Your clever counter-argument makes no sense at all, by the way. First of all, I never tried to ague that the event is "survivor-sided". I don't make those "us vs them" type statements because I actually bother to play both sides and try to understand both points of view before posting on this forum. I'm simply stating that I don't believe the event is "killer-sided" and gave my reasons why.. The Void doesn't provide any advantage to the killer to proactively enter. Killers only need to enter the Void to chase survivors. That's not a disadvantage to the survivor team, because the person is being already being chased anyway - that player doesn't really have an alternative choice to be doing gens at that time, do they? Survivors use the Void as an escape route and line of sight breaker when they see the killer coming. Killer either has to 1) break off chase and give the survivor a free escape, or enter the Void and try to figure out where the survivor went, which wastes more time for the killer. Please explain where the Void is helping the Killer.

I play both sides and I know how advantageous the Void can be when I play as survivor. If you're finding it to be a death trap, then why don't you just not go into it at all? You can always just stay in the main map and use the loops/pallets/windows that are normally available to you.

  • Anyone who is claiming that the event is "killer-sided" clearly does not actually play as killer. If it's so killer-sided, why don't you try to play as killer and show us some of your gameplay of you stomping survivor teams?

As others have mentioned, killer going into the Void is a HUGE waste of time for very little reward (a very mediocre projectile weapon that is easy to dodge). The longer the killer spends in the Void, the more time survivors have to repair gens unmolested.

For survivors, the Void can be very easily abused and based on my killer matches it often is. Survivors can spend all the time they want in the Void with essentially no downside, and they can easily gain distance on killers with some strong loops and multiple portals that the Void provides. Good survivors have learned how to abuse the Void realm and smoke bombs extend matches to extremely long and frustrating slogs. The current meta seems to be to save gens near portals for end game, so all survivors have to do is simply flee to the Void when they see you coming.

  • I play both sides about 50/50 and both sides are playing sweaty AF - it's not just killers. When I play as killer, it's either gens flying left and right or it's survivors abusing smoke bombs and looping from portal to portal to basically hold the match hostage.

OP asks why killers don't interact with the event - it's because it actively punishes them by wasting their time in the Void Realm. Survivors have no downside for going into the Void - in fact, it benefits them by either losing the killer or helping gain distance. For killers, going into the Void is usually a waste of time that just helps survivors get generators done.

It's not harsh. It is absolutely unfair for players to have their games ruin by other players who are either purposely abusing VPN or who just don't have a good connection. BHVR should do something about it, but they won't unless people start leaving the game because of this issue. Showing pings for everyone in lobby is 1) entirely normal for other PvP online games, and 2) is not difficult for the devs to implement. There is really no excuse for them not to do it.

I do find it weird how they completely gutted Distortion but seem to be buffing everything aura for killer. I am not a Distortion user by default, there are far more useful perks, however when I have used it the one thing I did notice is how often you get (or got) value out of it due to the sheer amount of aura perks in the game lately.

Then you get other matches with a killer like say Trapper, where you got zero value as Trappers don't tend to run full aura builds. The worst part is the killers that can take full advantage of this free info are often the ones that really don't need it.

With the insane amount of perks and addons in the game now, it can be hard to even realise that your aura is being exposed or even killer instinct is giving up your positional advantage. It is not what I would call a fun or highly interactive meta we are entering

I play about 50/50 survivor/killer, and I feel that nerfing Distortion was a terrible decision by the devs. They essentially eliminated stealth playstyle as an option for survivors who prefer to play that way, either because they enjoy it more or because they aren't great at looping. It's really frustrating that perks get nerfed not because they are OP (which old Distortion was not), but because they are "used too frequently". Nobody ever bothered considering that the reason it was used frequently is because it is the only way to viably play a stealth playstyle due to the crazy amount of aura reading abilities available to killers now.

  • If kill rates go down, then I think reverting back to old hook timer would be justified. If kill rates stay around the target 60%, then probably OK to keep as-is.

  • @Huge_Bush said:

Faster movement speed for 30 seconds as a reward and motivation to go out into the world and find a new Survivor.

  • Anyone complaining about tunneling should be required to post their own killer gameplay to show everyone how they manage to win without ever tunneling. Maybe then they would understand why it happens. Try playing "nice" and see how well you do against survivor teams that have even a moderate level of skill.

  • The whole item/add-on system needs to be re-done. It's been basically the same since the game was released 8 years ago and it has gotten incredibly stale. Nobody enjoys grinding through bloodwebs while stockpiling mostly useless items and add-ons. A system to sell back unused items has been suggested many times in the past, so by now it's clear that the devs have plans to ever do this. What would be even better is if some new items/add-ons could be introduced and old items/add-ons that nobody uses being retired.

  • When I play as killer, there really aren't any perks that I find super annoying or OP anymore. The ones that used to be have been properly adjusted, IMO.

When I play survivor, the only killer perk I really hate is NOED. It feels so bad to do well against a killer all game and then get insta-downed and eliminated from the match because of a stupid no-skill perk that only triggers because the killer didn't play well enough to prevent all the gens from being done. There's really no equivalent comeback mechanic perk on the survivor side. I guess maybe hatch would be the closest to a survivor comeback mechanic, but only provides maximum one escape while I have seen killers get 3-4K in endgame with NOED. I realize that NOED can be prevented by doing all the totems, but if you have to assume that NOED is in every match and spend a bunch of time finding and cleansing all the totems, that seems like an incredibly overpowered perk that benefits killers who aren't even bringing it into the match.

And yes, I'm talking about HARD tunneling.

It's been YEARS and there is no preventative for this?

You want to do built in moris, you can do built in decisive strike.

    Make it make sense.

LOL survivors deserve basekit decisive strike because killers can mori the last survivor (who they already downed, by the way) instead of hooking them? OK 🤣

It's all God's work and you better not criticise unless you want to get your account 'jailed'. Your lack of faith and what you're implying could be seen as disrespectful.

Whose account is getting "jailed" for criticism? I see people on this forum who have criticized the devs for years without punishment. Your account won't get "jailed" unless you break the forum rules.

There's definitely been an uptick recently, but I wouldn't say it's meta by any stretch.

And it shouldn't be, for two reasons:

    1. It's a dick move.
    2. It's simply not that effective, especially if it were to become widespread and the surv meta shifts to UB/Soul Guard/Boon: Exponential. I've been running soul guard more recently as it seems Hexes are all the rage atm.

Is it a "dick move" if the killer downs someone and know that there are one or more survivors waiting close by for a pallet or flashlight save? What is the killer supposed to do?

Cause Bad killers cant 4k on hooks and cry about SWFs.

Hey could you share some of your gameplay to show us how to not be a bad killer?

  • People have been complaining about this frequently on this forum for years. There is no way the devs are not at the very least aware of this issue. There are multiple solutions that would be very easy to implement, but given the fact that it's been ignored for years, it's clear that the devs do not plan to do anything about it.

  • It sure is easy to tell based on the comments who only plays survivor or who only plays killer. If these people bothered to play the other role, the amount of toxic comments on this forum would be reduced by like 90%.

Ive never understood this "you paid for it, you can do whatever you want!"

If I buy a ticket to go to the movies, doesnt mean I can talk loudly and be a disturbance to everyone else.

That's not a good comparison. Being a disturbance in a movie theater is probably against their rules, and they can rightly kick you out for it. DbD also has rules that if you break you can get banned. People should be allowed to do as they please within the rules whether it's an online game, a movie theater, or anywhere else.

  • We'll have to wait at least a month until the next patch….

  • Because there are some players who are only happy if they get to t-bag the killer at exit gate and get an escape in 100% of their matches. I've also seen amped-up sweatiness on the killer side. The increased level of try-hard on both sides makes events extremely unfun.
