  • Incentives have been broken for a long time now. Just like anything else, it will take months to fix, if ever. Last night I saw 25% incentive on Survivor and no incentive for killer. My Killer queue times were <20 seconds while my Survivor queues were several minutes. This type of thing has been going on for a while

  • @brokedownpalace said:

Just went against 3 killers in a row with the exact same build. Thrill, Face the Darkness, Devour Hope and Pentimento.

Is this seriously the vision you have for the game Bhvr? Playing totem cleansing simulator?

Correct - the fact that you saw the same build 3 games in a row definitively proves that nobody in the entire community has an original thought 🙄

  • The lack of response from the devs on this issue IS their answer. This problem has been commonly complained about for years, and BHVR have completely ignored it. Not only do they refuse to have ping limits for lobbies, they also refuse to show you other players' pings until after the match starts. So if you load in with a VPN-abusing killer (or someone who just has a very poor connection), you are forced to play a miserable and unfair match unless you want to leave which of course then punishes you (the innocent victim) with a DC penalty instead of the person who should be punished which is the VPN-abuser/person with crappy internet. At MINIMUM, we should be able to see other people's pings in the lobbies (ESPECIALLY THE KILLER'S PING) so that we can decide whether or not we want to play an unfair match.

  • If we just go back to "old" Thrill, hex builds will be useless and dead just like they were before it got buffed. Thrill needs to be more powerful than it was, so maybe somewhere in between old and new version would be a good spot for it so that it's not irrelevant like it was before.

  • I agree that slugging just for the heck of it is toxic, but slugging for the 4K is not. Killers have every right to try to secure 4K just like survivors have every right to slam out gens as fast as possible and get their whole team out. Both sides do things that are toxic and unnecessary. Killers leave survivors to bleed out when they could hook them, and survivors sit in the exit gate and teabag or spam vault noise notifications to BM the killer until the last possible second in ECG.

  • Nothing is going to change unless there is some competition. People are still playing the game and spending $ on it. We'll continue to get broken content cranked out every three months, it will continue to take forever to fix anything. This won't change until people start leaving the game to go play something else. Right now there isn't "something else", at least in this genre. But you do have to give BHVR credit for being the only viable game in this genre for 8 years. Nobody else has been able to do it.

There is a lot of lobby dodging going on on EU West servers right now for both roles. Everytime I get into a lobby at least one person is already ready, or suvivors / killers are missing. That combined with a "low" player count is deadly for propper matchmaking.

Pretty sure that was one of that lobbies.

I get thrown into lobbies on a daily basis with brand new players (I have >2,000 hours). I know it's not from backfills because I see the people loading in on my end - they're not already there and queued up. The matchmaking system is beyond broken. Lobby backfills can cause this issue, but the matchmaking system is regularly matching brand new players with very experienced players because I see it every single day.

  • @GentlemanFridge said:

    This seems highly unusual.

I believe there’s an MMR threshold for new players, preventing new installs from being matched with older players. Once you’ve gone past it, you shouldn’t be able to get back in.

Either that broke, or your ghostface is somehow below that threshold.

It's not unusual at all. It's a very typical part of the game now. There is no threshold because I have over 2,000 hours and I literally get matched with and against brand new players on a daily basis (I can see their hours for Steam PC players), and it's not due to lobby backfills. The matchmaking system is beyond broken and it's the single biggest issue in the game right now IMO. I've heard nothing from the devs acknowledging that it's a problem or any plans to improve it. Very disappointing.

  • I play a lot of killer and I have no problem with Head On. Yes those matches where you go against a SWF on comms who constantly bait you to their teammates waiting in lockers are super annoying, but extremely rare in my experience.

  • Good - I can't wait for nearly all hex perks to be useless and irrelevant again

    /s

  • I fully agree - I wouldn't pick DbD for this award either. My reasons:

    • It always takes an extremely long time to implement any sort of community-suggested improvements, and that only happens after overwhelming outcry from the community
    • Knowingly releasing and selling bugged content as well as leaving past bugs unresolved for months or sometimes even years
    • Overall lack of transparency behind changes in the game as well as refusal to release data that would provide insight into game balance
    • My primary reason: Matchmaking remains a complete and total disaster and BHVR have made no mention of any attempts to improve it. It is far and away the biggest negative aspect of the game. Even solo queue could be a consistently enjoyable experience if there was a functioning SBMM system that actually matched you with players of similar skill level.

I believe that BHVR's biggest problem is, ironically enough, lack of competition. They can continue to leave major issues in the game unresolved because people are still playing and still paying. Gamers who want to play this type of game have nowhere else to go, and no doubt BHVR knows it. That's why they can get away with focusing resources on cranking out content, even if it's poor quality, and leaving all the other issues as secondary priorities to fix if they have spare time.

With all that said, for all its faults, I still enjoy playing this game, but it certainly does not feel "Labor of Love"-worthy

  • So we can get auto-detection and penalties for someone being AFK, but it's technically impossible to auto-detect any sort of cheating like moving faster than normal without perks, teleporting around the map, infinite uses of perks that should be limited use, etc. and we must require a complicated and cumbersome reporting system with video evidence to deal with cheating 🙄

Maybe killers don't want to take chase because loops have become increasingly difficult and time consuming so when they catch someone they need to keep hold of them. And gens fly so fast a killer often feels they need to camp, slug, tunnel. It always baffles me how survivors say "no skill" to use these tactics but a killer can only chase, camp, tunnel 1 person at a time.... The other 3 are (or should be) doing gens which takes no skill. I would also add that it takes no skill to run from pallet to pallet in some cases especially with windows of opportunity. I can't speak for all killers but I know from my experience as killer I used to spread hooks and play by survivor rulebook. But since gens have popping crazy fast and constantly going against well coordinated swf teams I have been tunneling, camping, slugging.... whatever I need to do to get the kills.

Fully agree. The matches where I can easily 12-hook are extremely rare. Most of my matches have good survivors who know how to loop and mindgame - they are not easy downs. If I never camped, tunneled or slugged in any of those matches, I would never get a single kill because these are all strategies for applying needed additional pressure on the survivor team. For all those survivor-only players who claim that it's easy to win without ever camping, tunneling or slugging, please provide links to your instructional gameplay videos so we can all see how it's done.

  • I'm sure it was tested, but this is what happens when BHVR insists on cranking out new content every 3 months. Especially with more complicated killers like this. We get half-baked products that then take forever to fix because not only are they working on fixing previous content, they're already working on the next new chapters.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/433945/is-dbd-currently-survivor-sided

At the highest level of play, the game is survivor sided. At the lowest level, the game is killer sided. At average levels, its somewhere between, usually dependent on killer, map, what stuff people bring, teammates etc.

Agree. As killer if I go up against a good coordinated survivor team, I will struggle to get 1-2 kills. If survivors are average to poor, 3-4K wins come pretty easily. When I play survivor, even in solo queue it's usually competitive if my teammates are competent with good situational awareness and can last in chase without getting downed immediately. I also regularly get matched with brand new players and horrible teammates due to non-functional SBMM. Nobody escapes in those matches.

  • @chronicdreamz23 said:

Is it just me or is it really easy to play as killer? I can hit survivors from a very far distance and even when they 360 me I just swing and I am still able to hit them. My wifi and ping is very strong so that cant be the reason. I also noticed that slugging a 4k is extremely easy and seems to be a quick win when playing as killer.

If you can steamroll survivors so easily, why don't you stream and/or play competitively? Easy money, man. Do you mind sharing some clips of your gameplay so we can learn from your amazing skills?

  • I've played both sides with and against this new hex perk meta and I think it's fine against experienced survivors, even solo queue (which is what I see in most of my killer matches, at least). Hex perks have been a joke for a long time and decent survivors would either ignore them completely or if they couldn't, they would know exactly where to look for the totems (or they would spawn right next to a gen) and hexes were gone within first minute or two. Longer cleansing times make hex builds viable for the first time since original Undying.

One possible idea to make it less oppressive against solo queue would be to scale the cleansing slowdown based on number of SWF together in a party. This has also been proposed for gen repair speeds to help make the playing field more level between solo queue and SWF. But of course, the survivor player population is far greater than the killer player population and everyone screams that you are "PUNISHING PEOPLE FOR PLAYING WITH THEIR FRIENDS" anytime you suggest a possible solution to make the game more fair for everyone. So nothing ever changes and we will forever continue to get things introduced into the game that SWF on comms can easily deal with but makes life miserable for solo queue players.

  • Just today I was matched with at least three literal brand new players. One more was a console player so I couldn't verify hours played but she was a default skin Feng who brought Technician, repeatedly missed skill checks and was easily killed by a console Demogorgon player who was also brand new and had two yellow perks and no add-ons. At least I escaped that match I guess because of how bad the killer was.

The matchmaking is a complete dumpster fire and really makes solo queue a miserable experience. I barely want to play anymore because of the trash-tier quality teammates I am given match after match after match. I have lost hope that BHVR is ever going to fix this. They know what the problem is but they are unwilling to implement matchmaking solutions to make it more bearable for solo queue players.

  • Come on now, it wouldn't be a genuine new chapter if we didn't have some sort of inexplicable change that nobody asked for…

  • @vBlossom_ said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/433871/how-about-those-who-are-complaining-finally-start-using-anti-totem-perks

Complains about totems are because in latest patch there was a change that basically turn everything around and made things that were meant to be high risk - high reward into no risk at all - high reward.

No risk? Just stop it. Thrill can be removed from the match permanently within the first couple minutes of the game and then the killer is down a perk slot for the rest of the match.

  • Remember all the posts we had from survivor players complaining about STB getting nerfed because of "crying killer mains"?

  • I've been getting booted from servers pretty regularly. It usually happens right when I'm about to escape as survivor or when I'm about to 4K as killer. Servers are definitely jankier than usual

  • I'd bet money that this player cannot back up their trolling. Nobody ever does

  • @sinkra said:

60%+ kill rate and 90 second gens. Yeah, no thanks.

60% kill rate is what the devs say it's supposed to be. If survivors players don't like that, then don't play survivor. I'll happily take the shorter queue times.

Some people are only going to be happy if they can easily escape and t-bag the killer at the exit gate single match

  • @Lixadonna said:

The ones who complain about SWF are bad and SWF demonstrates how bad one is. Change my mind. 🤡 People would complain about SWF less if SoloQ wasn't a clown show.

So I take it you have no problem handling SWF teams as killer, right? I'd love to see some of your gameplay so we can all learn from your amazing skills

  • @Lixadonna said:

Sorry you can't handle High MMR. Maybe get good instead of blaming an Offering.

I'd love to see some examples of your killer gameplay so you can show us all how to git gud

  • Singularity, like Nurse, is incredibly difficult to play so I don't mind that he's on the stronger side for high-skilled players. Yeah, it really sucks to go against a good Singularity, just like it really sucks to go against a good Nurse, but it's very rare in my experience. There's a good reason that Singularity is a critically endangered species in the Fog.

  • @buggybug said:

No because at least am sure at least 80% of players are glad 2 v 8 gone. Sorry I love to loop and 2 v 8 dont give that when killers wanna double tap like 2.0 knights.

The game play itself becomes stale quickly cause lets admit perks tend to make you want to try new things even if they are niche.

    i

Obviously I have no official data, but based on what I've seen on the forums, it was more like 50/50 split between people who like 2v8 and those who don't.

I enjoyed 2v8 but I'm glad it's only a special event and not permanent. There just aren't enough players to support quick queues for both modes. Matchmaking is already terrible when everyone is playing 1v4, and having an extra game mode makes matchmaking even more of a disaster than it normally is.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I don't really understand the point of the "progression" system in this game. The progression is only briefly vertical, and then it's horizontal once you can run a meta build. It's a massive grind for what? I probably have over a thousand mist offerings between all my survivors, and I only have those because I had to stop playing the game to spend bloodpoints. Just…why? What's the point? I haven't seen a game so blatantly waste player time since old school subscription MMOs in the early 00s.

You could kill off the bloodweb entirely and the game wouldn't suffer. You just…equip a loadout. Nobody runs out of things as it is. If I don't have an item, I play a character that has the item. I play a medkit+syringe in 90% of my survivor games. Again….what is the point of this system?

I feel the same way as an experienced player, but I am sure the grind still feels overwhelming for new players. Especially if they want to play multiple killers and have a good amount of useful add-ons for those killers. With the grind reduction changes they made a while ago it's certainly not as bad for new players as it used to be.

  • @mecca said:

That is what happens in a horribly balanced game. Survivor is not playable in 1v4 unless you are a 4 man with no life. This is all thanks to killer mains and the devs following dictation.

I play solo q survivor and as long as I have competent teammates, my matches are typically fun and competitive. The problem is matchmaking where I am getting matched with brand new players (<100 hours) ALL THE TIME, no matter how many times I escape. Game balance is not the problem - it's matchmaking.

  • Killer players and survivor players provide feedback about perks all the time. That's how the game gets balanced. If you don't believe that the same thing happens to strong killer perks in response to feedback from survivor players, you're delusional. I'm glad that overly strong perks are being adjusted. Having a limited number of strong perks for either side just results in a stale, boring meta that everyone complains about.

  • Servers have been periodically struggling in US Eastern Time Zone too. Have had multiple 2v8 matches where everyone was between 100-200 ping and it was unplayable. Always fun getting hit with a Huntress hatchet that seemingly landed 20 ft away from you

  • @Mandy said:

then we'd have problems for bug reporting and feedback, we don't want to limit people being able to report things.

This is disappointing to hear. This is just my personal opinion, but I feel like limiting the ability for new users to create feedback/bug-reporting posts is a small price to pay to help reduce (possibly significantly) the hateful garbage and other spam that gets posted on weekend and holidays when mods are not actively monitoring the forums. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would be willing to bet that a vast majority of feedback and bug reports are not coming from brand new accounts.

Are there any ideas that the moderators are considering that might help mitigate the problem? It's really disappointing to see these responses that essentially say that nothing can be done about it.

  • People have been asking for some kind of restrictions on new accounts being able to create new threads for quite a long time now. If it hasn't happened by now, unfortunately it's probably never going to happen. We'll continue to have racism, gore, hate, and all other kinds of trashposts spewed all over on the forum on weekends/holidays, those accounts will get banned, and then they'll just come back on alt accounts and do it again because there's no hardware banning.

  • I've been feeling little or no excitement about new chapters for a long time now. Although I have >2,000 hours in the game, that's over the course of about 6 years so I am a pretty casual player (I just don't have a lot of time for video games with work and family). As a casual player, it gets pretty overwhelming learning the new killers and perks when they are cranked out at such frequent intervals. I barely get enough time to learn how to deal with the previous chapter's content by the time the new chapter is released. The game is becoming more an more unwelcoming to new players because the learning curve becomes steeper and steeper with each new chapter.

I would love it if the number of new chapters each year was at minimum cut in half. Obviously that would require a change in the business model because BHVR relies on the revenues from these frequent chapter releases. It's not like BHVR has to create a brand new business model from scratch - there are plenty of other games out there that can be used for ideas about how to monetize content.

  • I have never seen nor heard of this

  • @bm33 said:

They need to remove the DC penalty when you're kicked thanks to issues on BHVRs side. I understand having a penalty if there's internet connection issues on my side - I can call my provider and work with them to fix it. There is NOTHING I can do when the issue is on BHVRs side due to their servers. The error messages even say it's a dedicated server issue - they can code it so the server issue error message is exempt from the DC penalty, as well as code in a BP/Shard compensation for the inconvenience. If server issues are THAT frequent that coding in compensation when it happens would be giving away too much BP/shards then I think they should probably move server issues up the priority list.

I don't get DC penalties if the server kicks me out of the game, so I think that issue is already resolved. Now they need to focus on fixing the constant server issues.

  • It's not just a problem with 2v8 or free weekends. I get matched with brand new survivors in normal 1v4 mode all the time, despite having >2,000 hours

  • Everybody is going to have a different opinion about what modes they like/don't like. 2v8 certainly does not have universal love, but based everything I've read on the forums and seen from content creators online, it's very clearly the most popular alternate game mode launched so far. I personally love it and have had a lot of fun playing both roles in 2v8. I also like having it only available periodically as it serves as a nice break from the normal 1v4 mode. If it was permanent, I worry about it becoming too boring and we also have the issue of long killer queue times when the player base is split between two game modes.

While they're at it can they also ban the unfortunate flood of racism on the forums lately?

I know these accounts eventually get banned but unless something changes with the forum rules and who is allowed to post, this is just going to keep happening every weekend/holiday when forums aren't actively moderated. When people are banned they just come right back with alt accounts and the cycle continues. There needs to be some sort of minimum amount of time and/or minimum amount of comments posted before someone is allowed to create a new thread. That might not completely solve the problem but would at least serve as some form of deterrence. Hardware banning would be ideal but I have no idea if that's even possible on this forum.

  • This is a needed change, especially with Distortion and the stealth playstyle being nerfed into the ground. Some aura reading perks like Nowhere to Hide have unlimited use with very little requirement to trigger, while Distortion can only be reused if you manage to escape a chase which is one of the toughest things in the game to do against decent killers. A fair compensation for nuking Distortion would be to notify survivors when they are revealed so that they can react accordingly.

  • @alpha5 said:

If something of no value appeases you for a perceived waste of time you have much bigger problems than said lost time.

Bigger problems than let's say…someone who goes out of their way to, with no provocation whatsoever, in response to a very benign and non-controversial topic, personally attack random people they don't know on a niche video game forum?

You can buy skins and some DLC with shards, so I guess if you don't find any value in that then hey good for you. Not sure why you are so personally offended by people that do find value in that stuff. I'd rather use shards than spend actual $ on the content.

  • Using alt accounts is against forum rules and hope whoever is spamming the forums this weekend gets the banhammer on Monday. This is just going to keep happening though as long as brand new accounts are allowed to create threads and spam post all they want while forums remain unmoderated on weekends/holidays.

  • Burner account spam. A typical weekend on the forum

  • Smart killers will leave survivors slugged in EGC to bait other survivors to them. I've seen this done in some matches with pretty good success. You can't blame them because hooking a survivor during EGC basically guarantees they will escape if they aren't on death hook.

if it is about business tell me a better region than Middle East Arabs who pay thousands and thousands $$$ individually

The game literally unplayable at 100ms +++ ping and around it

I obviously don't have the financial details about how much money BHVR makes from players in that region, but if BHVR believed that they would make more profit by investing in local servers, they would probably do it.

Agree the game is unplayable at 100ms+ ping, but I see that even with local servers here in the US eastern time zone. At busy times during the 2v8 event everyone in the match would have >100ms pings and I was getting hit by Huntress hatchets curving around building corners. It seems like BHVR doesn't invest enough to make even the North American servers reliable.

Well, put yourself in his place, with this picture the game is unplayable and imagine this going on for a long time.

Wouldn't you be frustrated, especially since you paid money to play?

It's fine to be frustrated about not having local servers. It's not fine to accuse BHVR of not respecting Arab people because they don't have local servers
