  • I won't encourage DC'ing during loading screen because it's not allowed, but I certainly understand why people do it. Map offerings simply provide one side a very big advantage depending on the map, and until that unfair advantage is removed, I think there ought to be some way to avoid it.

I don't know where this "15 - 20 min survivor queues" claim comes from, but I'm pretty sure it is wrong, even though I've seen several people claim it. I've been playing since 2021 and queues were never ever more than 1-2 min, assuming you played during peak times and on one of the major regions.

If you want factual data about this claim, we can look at old VODs from 2021 of random streamers on Youtube, there are tons of old VODs. Here's a random one I picked from Feb 2021, see by yourself, all his queues take like 10 seconds:

    https://youtu.be/pxt4OM4mkRs?si=-xM0_eCCHT8uhMNT&t=3783

I did not cherry pick this video, you can try yourself, type "DBD 2021 VOD". I've looked at the first 3, all queues take less than 20 sec for the majority of games.

So, feel free to link it if you find one that takes 10+ minutes, but otherwise I'm calling that claim wrong.

In contrast, I can easily prove such high queue times for 2vs8, check these VODs. All the queues take a consistent 10-15 min:

    https://www.youtube.com/live/zNuEGzJsNzs?si=PQ8_0ZFRgVBfDjjI&t=1890

    https://www.youtube.com/live/olwvyRkri2U?si=GYHK0tDJfUFQFIA9&t=7996

    https://www.youtube.com/live/4y0IAE6t-5k?si=12-Sb6rffJzFEzjT&t=16852

It's possible there were some queue problems in 2021, but it was incomparable with what happened during 2vs8. During 2vs8, queue times were 10+ minutes for EVERYONE, to the point where pretty much no one streamed killer past the first few days.

I realize you didn't cherry-pick the video, but there are aren't going to be many posted to YouTube that have long stretches of the streamer just waiting in a queue. Nobody is going to watch those. In other words, you're most likely to see only videos with short queue times if you're randomly pulling stuff off YouTube because people are not going to upload their videos that have a bulk of the total time just sitting watching them wait for games.

All I can tell you with absolute certainty is my own experience. Even now, during peak evening times in my region (US eastern time zone), killer queues are instant and survivor queues are consistently a few minutes long. It was way worse before recent buffs were given to killers to help boost kill rates up to the current ~40% average. If survivor queue times are still a few minutes even now after these buffs, that means that there is still a deficit of killers in the queue pool (less than the 20% needed to make a perfect overall 4:1 survivor-to-killer ratio). The killer role is still not attractive enough to get enough players to balance the queues during peak times. I don't play during the day very often, but I assume it's probably not as bad during "off-peak" times because there aren't as many people playing together in groups, and solo players are probably on average going to choose the killer role more often.

  • Fully agree this is much-needed in the game. The game has felt stale for a long time due to the basic mechanics remaining the same for pretty much its entire history. Let's get rid of old useless items and add-ons that nobody ever uses. I think the main reason we rarely see new items is because resources are focused on new content that generates revenue $. New items don't directly result in more revenue, but I think they would help prevent people from getting bored with the game and leaving it.

Its not uncommon now to go on a dozen or so loss streak now, whos going to sit through that many losses before finally getting the win is the problem. in his example he is more experienced than his friends so they for the most part get matched at a higher mmr

Yes this can happen to certain people, but if BHVR's escape statistics are really true, then it's not happening to most players. If it was, the escape rates would be far lower. In my experience, when I've played with 2-3 friends who are lower skilled and likely have lower MMR scores, we tend to get matched against baby killers.

  • If you actually want to win as killer, there's no reason whatsoever to go into portals. You either have to just ignore them completely, only use them after you are winning comfortably, or be OK with losing and just farming BP. My approach has been to just have a different mindset if you're playing the event mode - not worrying about winning or losing and just focus on completing the tome challenges. I will probably just go back to regular game mode after the challenges are completed.

  • @Eelanos said:

I used to recommend the game, but my three friends did exactly the same:

Play survivor with me for about a week, we get pissed off because get into a losing streak.

Decide to play killer by their own. Literally just click people to death. 1 to 3 weeks of playing the game on and off.

No one wants to play with me anymore.

They get bored because we can't play killer together but we don't want to face a 12% escape rate either.

    They leave.

I'm the only idiot that likes the concept enough that's willing to put up with people that don't know what balancing a game means in the forums, and the ######### show that solo q is. And still I need plenty of breaks or this game will make me lose my mind. Heck, this event is already testing my limit as a fan of the game.

I keep seeing posts like this from people who claim they escape far below the average rates. Only one of these things can possibly be true:

    1. They actually escape more frequently than they are claiming
    2. They are far less skilled than the average survivor player
    3. BHVR is providing bogus escape rate statistics

    So, which is it?

I think it's something that can't really be done halfway, which is what the devs have tried to do. You can't tell players there is an MMR system and then hide it.

That allows developers to have more control over discourse, which they'd understandably want. But it also allows players to completely fabricate any reality they choose. Hiding MMR is a two way street, and I'm not sure BHVR realized that at the time. Totally understandable why developers would want to hide it, but there's a cost when you tell players it's active and then hide it.

I'm not sure that hiding MMR accomplishes what they think it does. Players who don't care about it probably would continue to not care about it. And players already sweat out games for an invisible number. Again, you've told players MMR is active. They know it's there. People aren't going to lose object permanence regarding MMR because it's hidden.

Everything that hiding MMR is supposed to prevent happens anyway. People make up their own MMR, they use a made up "high MMR" as a sort of credential, and the game became infinitely sweatier (subjective).

I believe the only reason they hide MMR is because it would prove that the SBMM system is functionally useless. Many players already know this based on their experience, but if MMR remains hidden then there's still no way to prove it with actual data. Like you said, the stuff they are trying to prevent by hiding MMR already happens anyway. The only reason to hide it then is to try to conceal how broken it really is.

…and Im tired of pretending like it hasnt.

Obviously, going forwards I must address that this is not addressing the community as a whole, moreso just a small thing Ive noticed that has overall negatively impacted the forums (at least based on personal experience).

MMR, or Matchmaking Rank/Rating, is used in DBD to try and determine the level of skill a player has and tries to place them with players roughly around their skill level (slightly lower, equal, and/or slightly higher) to try and make matches feel more balanced. Overall, I have no issue with SBMM in games as long as they are designed in a way that fits the needs of the players.

My main issue with MMR is how MMR has been used in a manner, especially in discussions, that is often used to attack others or shield criticism towards things within the game. Or in other words, youll see "you must be low MMR" or "Im high MMR so this cant be" constantly, as if MMR is the magic system that equates to a level of credibility.

Perspectives matter. Regardless of MMR, people can have opinions that you disagree with, since they are coming from a different perspective. Even if a player is high or low skill, their input matters since DBD is a dynamic game with a wide variety of playstyles and skill levels, DBD is inherently an ecosystem where all parts matter, and MMR is often used as an excuse to dismiss others or to try and invalidate their opinions.

Overall I find that MMR has left a negative impact on the forums since discussions can easily just de-rail into "well who is more skilled" or "who has the more credible opinion" instead of understanding the idea that we can just have different opinions, we can agree to disagree.

This was an issue back when Ranks were a thing as well, Im not going to ignore that, and part of this has to do with how people discuss things in general; but I found the introduction of MMR to be worse than Ranks since MMR is take a bit more seriously when it comes to balance discussion and skill expression.

    :(

Agree with the points the OP has made, but I think an even bigger issue is people who come here and throw out opinions about the experience of either the killer or survivor side when they don't bother playing that role at all. Pretty much every "us vs. them" post or comment, which I think is the main source of toxicity in this community, is coming from someone who has never played survivor or killer. There would be a *massive" reduction in these kinds of posts/comments if everyone took the time to experience both roles.

The point about people using MMR to validate their own opinion or invalidate others' is certainly not unique to this game. That's going to be an issue with every game. The experiences of low skilled vs. high skilled players and new players vs experienced players is always going to be there.

The reason people don't want to play killer has nothing to do with killrate.

During 2vs8 event, the killer role had the longest queue times ever seen in DBD, about 15 min queues, and survivor had +600% BP incentives. Which shows, people overwhelmingly play killer, when they can do it with their friends.

But outside of the event, survivor is the only role that allows that. You could buff killrates to 99%, as long as killer is still the 1v4 role, the majority of players will not play it.

The all-time peak player count of DBD was in 2021 btw, when the killrate was 50%.

I don't think it's fair to use the 2v8 mode to assess the popularity of the killer role. That was a very unique event in the game's history and people were drawn to the killer role due to mode offering 2 killers being able to play together for the first time ever.

Yes the peak player count was back in 2021 when kill rates were lower, but I also remember survivor queue times being extraordinarily long back then. My queue times for survivor during peak time are now maybe just a few minutes at the most. Back then it was like 15-20 minutes. The deficit of killer players was definitely worse back then than it is today, and that's because killer doesn't feel as unfun to play as it did back then.

  • On the question of if I recommend the game to friends, I do not. Not because I don't enjoy the game - I do, quite a lot - but because the complexity and sheer amount of content have gotten out of control. When I started playing the game back in 2018, I had a group of friends who started playing as well, but nearly all quit pretty quickly due to how overwhelming it is for new players. And that was years ago. The learning curve for new players is exponentially worse now. Just way too many killer powers to learn how to use/counter, perks to learn how to use/counter, etc.

  • There sure have been a lot of "survivors don't escape enough" posts recently. Seriously, people need to spend time playing both sides before forming their opinions on this issue. Nobody wanted to play killer when the kill rates were lower. If you want EZ escapes and t-bagging killer at the exit gates, just play a custom game with a bot killer. If survivor side sucks so much, then don't play it - I will gladly welcome the shorter survivor queue times in the peak evening times when I play.

  • It was a poorly-thought-out idea that nobody in the community was asking for. I play about 50% killer and I think it was a terrible idea. All it does is encourage the unfun playstyle of slugging people at endgame to guarantee a finisher mori. Just get rid of it and let people bring mori offerings if they really want to mori people.

  • This is beyond frustrating. It seems like every time there is a glimmer of hope that the devs are listening to community and actually making changes based on it, they also roll out some mind-boggling changes that nobody asked for and this is a perfect example of that.

It feels like there's a serious issue at BHVR with how they have their resources allocated. That's the only thing to explain why stuff like this gets worked on while many other issues in the game - things that are actually being brought up on the community forums regularly - continue to be left untouched for years.

It's so frustrating because I really do love this game and see what potential it could have if BHVR would devote resources to some of the key issues being addressed instead of things that nobody wants like new breakable walls.

Can you actually list how its "baby mode easy" instead of saying so? Can you list actual facts in-game? Not what this or that streamer did. What you have done yourself or what you think makes killer easy.

They can't, and they know they can't. They are going to simply continue to argue that killer is super easy not because they actually play killer themself, but because they watch some pro streamer who plays 18 hours a day.

  • @hxp said:

Do Devs play Survivor themselves? Do they know how difficult it is to play survivor? With all the map changes and tile changes. Some maps are full of filler pallets. With all the perks nerfed to ground? This needs to be addressed asap! Or survivors will leave. I keep track of my own statistics and I could not escape once in the last 10 games playing in my SWF. And yes, please reply to my post that that's a skill issue lol. If the upcoming event is again killer sided then good bye DBD

Good - that would make my survivor queue times much shorter in the evenings when I prefer to play survivor. To everyone else complaining about how awful it is, I'd be happy to take your spot in the evening survivor queue line!

There's no evidence of that to back it up statistically or nobody has had winstreaks comparable to killer mains. The overall consensus is that survivor sucks, survivor is always bribed to play the game due to killer being the baby mode and the overall most fun role to play. There's not a single metric you can point at that favors survivor.

So there is statistical evidence to back up your claim? If so, please send me a link - I'd love to see it. The insane killer winstreaks you're referring to are from the top 0.0001% of players in the world, so please stop generalizing the entire killer experience based on the performance of the world's top players. The only "consensus" that survivor sucks is from survivor-only player who refuse to player killer yet claim that it's incredibly easy based on zero evidence and zero experience. By nature of the game, you're going to have a lot more survivor players because the overall player pool needs to be 80% survivors to be balanced. So of course there's going to be more noise from the survivor side calling to make the game easier for them.

The only thing that I can point to to back up my claim that killer is not easy is my own experience. Good survivors have no problem getting 2, 3 or even 4 escapes against me. You on the other hand are basing your claims on no experience as a killer player. If I'm wrong, I'd love to see some video of your gameplay so I can see what I'm doing wrong to be such a terrible killer player. I put out the same challenge to everyone else on this forum making similar claims that killer is "EZ mode".

There's already plenty of evidence of playing killer is easy. It doesn't have to proven on this forum, not everyone takes the game so seriously to record their matches.

LOL just stop. I don't believe this for 1 second. Post some of your gameplay to show us all how it's done. By the way, I have challenged people like you who make these claims many, many times, and very predictably not a single one has responded yet.

is it worth playing anymore? Well, as a survivor… I’m an average gamer but have 100s of hours in this game…as killer I’ll get 4k almost every game, everything is designed to take me straight to a killer and if I’m getting looped no worries, speed boost.. As a survivor, what’s the point? Killers perk 12 second bonus, survivor perk, 0.5 sec bonus…

Killers have speed boost, 101 aura perks and every tool under the sun to make the game a breeze - in fact it’s not a game, it’s too easy with aura reveal, invisibility, teleporting, gen blow ups, there is zero challenge to playing killer. It is the single most zero skill game mode available today…

As a survivor it’s just how long until you die, there’s no hide, there’s no seek, since they know exactly where you are at all times and if you have the audacity to do anything as survivor you’re punished. Even now with predator revealing auras after rudely escaping a chase (yet distortion made it “too easy” for survivors.

It’s not fun, it’s not challenging, it’s not interesting. So what is the point. Why is it so hard to balance a game so both sides face a challenge and require skill.. it used to be better than this and with every step they take it’s just dull, lifeless, pointless..

This feels like yet another post from someone who doesn't actually play killer and wants killers to be nerfed. If you're really getting 4K's almost every game, why don't you play competitively or stream full time so you can show everyone how it's done?

I mean, Boons are terrible too. Hexes are better IMO, sure, some are also not really worth it, but something like Ruin is way better than any Boon-Perk.

(In general, comparing Boons and Hexes just because they are glowing Totems is pretty much nonsense.)

I agree. I can't think of any boon that is worth running, while in contrast there are some pretty decent Hex builds out there. Hex: Plaything by itself is a pretty good slowdown perk to force survivors to spend time on a second objective or punish them with permanent oblivious.

  • Yes, they are definitely broken. Sometimes I'll have a long queue for a role with BP incentive and sometimes I'll have an instant queue for a role with no BP incentive. There's no logic to it at all.

  • Oni is one of my favorite killers to go against and even when I can confirm it's a PC player he's not even close to being OP. He's easy to counter if you know how to play around structures/windows. He should be very bottom of the list of "killers that deserve to be complained about".

  • It would be great if BHVR implemented harsher DC penalties and/or some other kind of system to punish people more for giving up in matches, but I don't think it's ever going to happen. People have been complaining about it for years and the devs haven't done anything about it, so I've given up hope.

  • Nobody wanted to play killer when kill rates were lower. Some people are only going to be happy if we get to the point where playing killer is so miserable that the devs are forced to use killer bots in public matches.

  • I play both sides and I agree this change was not well thought-out. I see a lot more slugging for the 4K in my matches as well. I hope the devs are considering this feedback because this was a very unnecessary change that really nobody was asking for. Just let people use mori offerings if they really want to see a mori in a match. The only thing this change did was to significantly encourage unfun gameplay.

Whether or not you believe this would be valid for DBD, I would rather this not be something storefronts just do to fight cheaters. It's about not setting a precedent that it's okay for companies to remove unplayed games from people's accounts.

I think that's fair for paid games, but it's not like these people paid for the game and aren't able to play it anymore. I really don't see a problem at all doing this for games that were offered for free, especially when it's basically a 99.99% chance that it's being used as a burner account for cheaters.

  • @Crowman said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3815988#Comment_3815988

I would rather not give these storefronts permission to remove game access from accounts just because the game they have access to hasn't been played for years.

How many legitimate accounts do you think downloaded the game when it was free and haven't played a single minute since then? I'm only talking about accounts that haven't played it a single minute since they downloaded it during the free period, not people who have played it but then took a break for a very long time. I think the number of real people you would be negatively impacting would be close to zero.

  • @Crowman said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3815978#Comment_3815978

Epic should have the ability to revoke game access. Personally I find it to be a bigger issue if platforms start revoking unplayed games to stop cheaters even if the games were initially gained for free.

If the account has never played the game once in the however many years it's been since the free game was offered, that's a pretty good sign that it's a burner account for cheaters and not a legit account. The number of legit accounts that got the game but haven't played it yet since that time way long ago is probably close to zero, so you would be impacting almost no legitimate accounts.

  • @Crowman said:

It's not that the devs don't care about addressing cheaters, it's just that cheaters don't just stop trying to cheat because old cheats got shut down. They simply look for new ones.

Also this came into my recommended one day and I watched it

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGa_sAwljUA

The other issue is that cheaters even if they do get banned, will create new accounts and continue cheating anyways. Really helped by when Epic was giving the game away for free a few years ago.

Isn't there a way to simply deactivate any of the free Epic accounts that haven't been used yet? If so, seems that would be a good way to at least get rid all of the Epic "burner accounts" that cheaters have been using.

  • Better solution - just simply delete Hawkins. Life was so much better when the Stranger Things license was gone…

  • I think it's good to play both sides. Most of the toxicity in the community comes from people who only play one side and constantly blame the other side for their frustrations in the game. But I understand where you are coming from with your frustrations on the survivor side. I play about 50% solo queue and I see many of these myself. The biggest problem is matchmaking. No matter how many times I escape, I still get constantly matched with brand new survivors, people who refuse to touch gens, get downed almost instantly after a chase starts, etc. The matchmaking is just completely broken and no matter how well you do individually, you will never be rewarded by getting matched with competent teammates. That's the core issue here.

  • This is what happens when the devs make changes to the game without getting any player feedback. Anybody who has played this game for even a little while could have seen how obviously problematic this is. I haven't seen a single comment yet on this forum or anywhere else that thinks this was a good change - it's literally 100% negative feedback. Also, instead of breaking a map with a low-effort bandaid fix, why not implement a solution to address the bodyblocking-to-hold-the-game-hostage problem across all maps?

Maybe this will get changed due to univeral negative feedback, but as usual we're going to have to suffer with this broken map until the next patch comes out who knows when. Until then, expect Springwood map offerings galore and killers DC'ing like crazy to avoid it.

  • Some of the decisions the devs make are simply inexplicable, and this is one of them. Badham is already universally regarded as one of if not the most survivor-sided map, and this change makes it even stronger for survivors. The least they could have done is remove/modify some other strong loop on the map to compensate and make the change net neutral in terms of favoring one side. Or how about just make the room slightly wider to prevent body blocking? There are many ways they could have done this without making the map even more survivor-sided.

I really don't get your point a lot of things wasn't in the rules and got changed from the Devs like flashlight clicking and Mori canceling because they were toxic behaviors, so you saying by default it's acceptable is just wrong if they are not mentioned in the rules by your logic they accept it but they changed it why ?

Things get changed for reasons other than being considered "toxic". Flashlight spamming got changed because it could give people seizures, not because it was "toxic". I have no idea what mori canceling is, but if it got changed, it was likely because it was an unintended bug, not because it was considered "toxic". I stand by my comment that anything not specifically mentioned in the rules as bannable is acceptable. The only thing they need to do is tell us what is bannable, not tell us everything that we are allowed to do in the game.

  • I am a 50/50 killer/solo q player and I understand your frustration with solo q and SWF. On the killer side, SWF is pretty unfair as survivors effectively get a ton of info perks for free, the entire teams knows exactly where you are at all times, they can very easily coordinate who is doing what, and can easily get in position for pallet/flashlight saves. The game was not designed to be balanced around that, but as long as enough people are still willing to play killer, it's not ever going to be nerfed.

On the solo q side, it has become increasingly clear to me that the real problem is not the lack of information/coordination that SWF teams enjoy, but the horrific state of matchmaking and measuring skill in the game. I have >2,000 hours in the game and consider myself a decent but not great survivor player. My solo q games are fun and I feel I have a decent chance of escaping IF my teammates are also decent players and know what to do in certain situations. The problem is that I am constantly getting matched with brand new players who have no clue what they are doing, refuse to touch gens, run and hide even if they know someone else is being chased, hide in the corner of the map to self care, get downed 10 seconds after chase starts, etc. It's not a problem of killers being too good - it is a problem of teammates being too bad. Unless BHVR changes the way matchmaking and skill level measurement work to actually reduce the chance of you being matched with brand new and/or terrible teammates, solo q is always going to be this super-frustrating experience.

Stomp them or get stomped. Your choice. I have been nonstop tunneling and winning, and I got a Steam trophy the size of Mount Everest as proof. The amount of -rep brings a tear to my eye. Such enjoyment could not ever be acquired.

Uh dude didn't you just create a rage post where you demanded that tunneling be punished to the fullest extent of the law?

Not asking if it is bannable, it isn't. The OP and I are asking how the dev's think this behavior is acceptable.

If it's not bannable, then it is by definition acceptable. I know you are waiting for devs or mods to explain their rationale here, but honestly if I was them, I would not open that can of worms. Different people get offended by different things, and if BHVR had to explain why something is or is not OK every time somebody is offended by something in the game, they wouldn't have time to do anything else. So their approach here, which I completely agree with, is the following: clearly state in the game rules what is bannable, anything not included in that list is not bannable, and we're not going to spend time explaining to everyone why.

How about you let the devs speak for themselves and if you aren't interested in what they have to say, move on to a different post.

They've already stated many times that literally what the OP showed in their video isn't bannable and have asked people to not report it. I'm just telling you what they've said, not speaking for them myself. Thanks for your snarky comment, though.

There's no point in reporting it because it's not bannable.

Terrible sportsmanship sure but unfortunately not against the rules.

I don't see why it's "unfortunate" that it's not against the rules. Some people will perceive literally anything you do in a game as "toxic", "vulgar", "offensive" or whatever. The devs cannot cater to every single person's feelings or else we can't have a game at all.

Yeah the implications of W-Sing are a lot more serious than just regular teabagging for sure.

This is your opinion. Other people might think that t-bagging is sexually explicit and offensive. Many people don't care about either of these things at all. All of this is based on people's subjective feelings.

  • @apathyinc said:

I am also curious to hear how this is still acceptable from the devs. This is how you want people to experience your game?

The devs don't need to explain why. Certain people will perceive just about any possible action in a game as "toxic", and the devs cannot cater to every singles person's feelings or else we can't have a game at all. If the devs had to explain to every single person why something is or isn't toxic/bannable/whatever, nobody at BHVR would have any time to do anything else.

If that's not bannable....then I suppose toxic chat at the end isn't as well. Seems like it's in the same category

There are very clear rules posted about what kind of things in the chat are bannable. The devs have already explicitly stated many times that slugging and any kind of t-bagging, humping motions, etc in the game are not bannable. So no, they are not in the same category by the definitions the devs have provided. "Toxic chat" isn't bannable either unless the person says things that are explicitly stated as bannable by the devs, such as threats, racial slurs, etc.
