  • This sounds like it can be pretty cool, I hope the killers end up liking it, and red light green light sounds fun as survivor!

Heavily online people are terrible to interact with. Most of them are children with absolutely no social skills and explosive tempers. Why would anyone be eager to interact with that?

Being rude and obnoxious doesn't make people afraid of you, they're just annoyed by you, and would rather ignore your existence entirely.

You nailed it with that statement. People be peopling sometimes.

  • ping is based off internet speeds off a local server. It will never reflect the same number on something like a PvP game that runs off their own servers separate from your internet providers server. I hope this helps.

I'm not the one DCing lil bro. They do look at DC data and they can include DC matches but they won't because it's bad PR for BHVR to show the true kill rate and how high it actually is

I understand what you’re saying, but I also understand how something like a player that got replaced by a bot could mess with data and outcome. So unfortunately the matches do get thrown out.

Sometimes it’s not some giant conspiracy theory , it’s bad data to gauge anything off of. So that’s why I say stay in the match so they can look at it. If anyone feels like something is unfair find a way to verbally articulate your issue using who, what, when, where , why statements to give a clear picture, instead of going next on the hook.

Idc who’s doing it, I was just pointing out the logic of the argument is flawed. Could be my own mother and I’d still say the same thing.

  • my condolences. I hope whatever they do it’s awesome because I think she is a really interesting and unique killer. I faced one the other day and it was cool, because I feel like never see them anymore. I hope they toy with your ideas and see what can be done, because I would like to see more of her.

  • @jedimaster505 said:

It's important to include the DC matches too, to reflect the actual reality of what's going on in your average match, instead of some hypothetical ideal where every survivor is a pro comp player in a 4 man SWF. DC's would bring the kill rates so high that survivors would be outraged so it wouldn't be a good PR move for BHVR. And while yes some DC's are for petty reasons most of them are actually because a Nurse or Blight or some other OP killer steam rolled the whole team at 3-5 gens and one player rage DC'd.

or people could stop dcing, and play the match so that they can include the data. If you care that much about things you think are unfair then stop it, play the match. Take it on the chin , and stop tainting the data, so that they can look at it. This logic is flawed “ I feel like it’s unfair so I’m going to just leave and make sure that the match I’m in gets thrown out from the data, they should really look at this though” It doesn’t really make a lot of sense to argue from that point. Just stay and make sure it doesn’t get thrown out so they can look at it.

I have a theory that Killer difficulties were placements along the mmr bracket. So Trapper and Legion were categorized as “beginner” which leads me to believe they were mostly for lower mmr. Higher mmr Survivors might have faced less of the “beginner” Killers. I think Plague was categorized as “hard” because the power is so easy to get value from that the player ends up playing against “hard” Survivors.

I’m not willing to die on this hill or anything but it is a suspicion on how I think the difficulty system used to work.

oh okay thank you, I mean you could possibly be right ppl that are higher mmr generally pick stronger than trappers.

  • I don’t use this perk so I would never be able to give the feedback they need other than “presumed bug” I’ll leave it to the players that use it to figure it out. I would just another ticket added in for unnecessary reasons, and personally idc if it’s a bug or not because if I’ve went against the perk, it’s wasn’t anything noticeable on the survivor end.

I would actually argue the opposite in general, I dont think comp is the issue. Comp has always been a (small) part of DBD. My issue is that MMR being the main reason for matchmaking has made people more comp because they feel they HAVE to be comp. And if they dont play comp, they lose more often than they win. And while I am 100% standing with the "you've relied on methods that arent really an expression of skill" like slugging and tunnelling at 5 gens, therefor they will always be facing opponents that are better than them skill-wise and forces them to rely even harder on methods that dont express skill. I am also standing with the community not being given much of a different option.

Like, we dont know what our MMR is. We dont know how long it takes for MMR to degrade (like, lets say I have accidentally boosted myself to 2000, but skill-wise, my MMR is closer to 1600. With those changes implemented, how many games will need to be lost for me to reach that? How long do I not have to play killer or survivor to get into that range? If its -10 per month of not playing and -5 per game, I need to have an insane amount of losses).

I almost feel like if the changes do get pushed through, players in general should be given to, just this once, lower their MMR by 10-25%. Or have players fill in a survey where if they state they feel like they are forced to slug and tunnel as killer, and/or feel like they need to rely on toolboxes with BNP, their MMR gets lowered by 15% without their knowledge (which, I personally would disagree with, but whatever reason there is to keep MMR hidden, then this should be hidden too). It's just going to give players an easier time to adjust and stop relying on methods they dont enjoy using while winning the majority of their games. Because killers who slug and tunnel dont feel like they won when they did win, and survivors who escape through sweating dont feel like they won either.

And maybe, just maybe, add a statistic on how often they actually win games, and what the average winrate is at their MMR. Because if Trapper wins 15% of games at 1500 MMR, and I win 20% of games at 1500 MMR as Trapper, then I have information that despite losing 80% of my games, I still do better than the average Trapper.

We, as players, need feedback. Because right now the only feedback is "did I win or did I lose?", which means that even if you win 95% of your games, you're not gonna care because of the 5% you lost and those felt like unfair losses, where all the wins felt deserved. But if you know that, relative to other players in your bracket, they win 80% of games where you win 95% of games, you'd feel a lot better about games you lose, and a lot of the games you win no longer feel as deserved since you "clearly" are outperforming in your bracket.

I think pretty similarly with the rest, but have mixed feelings on putting up comparison information because it might increase competitive natures further, for every 1 person it gives a peace of mind to it might cause 5 others to push themselves in ways that will make the game not feel fun anymore.

Essentially making it an even more competitive game than it is now. Ergo even less people are coming back for things now. While I understand that a lot of people have highly competitive natures I think it would place a huge self expectation on people that they ultimately don’t even end up liking.

Gestures around, because people can’t even see their mmr now. The human ego is fragile and honestly I think a lot of people live by some sort of mentality that doesn’t actually align with what they want, because they can’t even give their self a break to go “it’s okay to take time to learn, I don’t have to be the best while I learn” and when you’re not giving yourself a break, you’re not giving others a break either. So I completely understand why they would hide information, it honestly just protects people from well them, and their inner me.

I was playing in a duo yesterday and my friend, she asked me “what do you think about chucky?” And I was like I would love to tell you but they won’t engage in chase long enough for me to get any real information. They get one hook and basically capitalize off that and abandon as soon as the notification goes off. I legitimately can’t get them to engage longer than 10-15 seconds, they refuse to play loops. I’ve faced like 3 recently.

So I’d love to give feedback(I’m probably an average player, not bad, but not absolutely amazing either, I have some things to work on and I’m not ashamed to admit that or ask for help, 2000 hours and I’m still learning new things) so the little guy is probably being held back off tunneling Strats alone, but I can’t give feedback because they refuse to try in any real meaningful way that would allow me to. I guess what I’m trying to say is maybe it’s for the best, maybe that chucky would realize they just need to get better, maybe it would just make people gen rush and go for gold even harder, lead to more slugging and tunneling. Sometimes people need to be saved from their self. Because if you can’t take a look at yourself when an invisible number is in play and you’re no longer having fun, and go “maybe I’m out of my league” let me fix this, imagine if people could see.

What do you think from receiving this different perspective?

  • why do you say that? Just a probing question.

  • I main whoever has bps

  • update started and completed it in a few hours :) see told you only I could complete it. Rigged.

It's really unbelievable that the next chapter will be FNAF, I personally never imagined that they would get this license.

FNAF is not one of my favorite chapters but I'm happy it's here and we all know the hype is huge and it's going to be the biggest chapter BHVR has ever released.

My dream chapter would probably be The Evil Within. The possibility of content that could come depending on the developers' choice is huge. There are several possibilities for killers, maps, survivors and cosmetics.

I wonder if they’re ever going to make another evil within because I thoroughly enjoyed the two they put out. Also in general just loved the Claire de lune theme for the mirrors rooms.

What was the point of nerfing moris if Myers can do it without hooking or downing you.
I see a lot ppl talking about nerfing syringe or this perk. But not as much as the Myers where he is allowed to mori ANYONE from healthy.
And all he has to do is to look at you to gain that power and the further away you are the easier he gets it. For example if you run away from him.
I don't have that much issue with his ultra rrare is more with his purple tombstone where you combined it with a stalk gain and you can get value like no other killer can

they’re really strong because they’re giving up most of the match to just stalk. Meaning they can kill you because they took the time to stalk up everyone.

Anyways the way around this is to break line of sight as much as possible. If they’re just looking at you but doing nothing you’re being stalked. If you’re just “rushing gens” they’ll be able to get people mid match, but if everyone is not letting them gain the stalk it’s looking like endgame before they can do anything. Just gotta play smart.

edited to say it doesn’t need a nerf. It’s fine, survivor mistake. Also to say that sometimes it’s not even because of tombstone it’s because they decided to heal under hooks, to what boiled down to farming each other against 1 shot myers, and not look for the totem to break devour hope. Just played a match just now that exactly that just happened. I also able to get undying , but hadn’t found devour before being 1 shot downed and moried. Just saying, not complaining. Survivor game sense issue.

I personally love lighthouses and the maritime aesthetic, and would like to see it. That said, I'm not the lighthouse itself could be incorporated, unless it was just the base/ground floor.

Or maybe a collapsed lighthouse where the top/beacon is near the ground with the light still functioning. That would be cool.

And it has been proposed by others, but I'd love a killer in an antique diving rig. There was one in Scooby-Doo and it creeped me right tf out when I was a little kid:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/GZZ56CZWPCOK/sd-diver-1.jpg

I'd like to see an updated mature version, of course.

that would also be sick!!!! Ghostly diver!!!

  • she looks like she’s been through it and became a statistic.

  • lighthouse map with a mer-creature theme would be pretty sick.killer gets a trident as their m1, or they could do different creature webbing clawed hands for their attacks and use of. Survivor could be a careered fisherman that got sucked into the realm out deep sea fishing. Pretty awesome. New status effects like drenched from something like a water torrent blast, that causes the survivor to be wet requiring them to get heat packs to not catch hypothermia that does x effect if they don’t find a way to dry off or get sick. Puddle transports on another button that the killer can place down. Lot to work with, think demogorgon/ plague /trickster kit hybrid just with different addons to encourage different playsytles. I’m just off the cuffing. Ohh or they send out water tornadoes!!!!

You don't wanna know. I Googled it again for fun and I had lots of results asking the same thing: fix the aura and bubble interaction.

I myself want it fixed too but bhvr doesn't want to or probably don't know how to fix it.

They must of changed it anyways even though they said that. Happens a good bit. Sometimes customer satisfaction outweighs a test or what you think. This was probably something they could give on and fix or at least test and see how it goes. No need to insult people. Take the W while it’s here and hope it stays. Say thank you since it’s not causing you problems anymore, because someone was toying with the code(obviously) to try to see what could be done.

The bubble used to not block auras and it got suddenly changed. Then a dev said it's intentional for the bubble to block auras. Makes no sense to me but that's BHVR.

no idea then, but enough people probably said something about it to change it.

Does the challenge work with Borrowed Time?

I usually run Deja Vu to prevent three gens, an exhaustion perk of my choice, and two random assortment of perks to help reach the end and escape trials.

If you find yourself tunneled out or focused on, you can bring an anti-tunneling perk as a third. I try not to have too much anti-tunneling or too much of the same type of category (healing, gen, anti-tunneling, chase) and try to make a more diverse build.

I think for my last game I've played recently, I played with Kindred, Open-Handed, Deja Vu, and Sprint Burst on my Ace which is nice. It's information and very good for soloq or even a small SWF group.

For the healing others challenge, it'd be good to run Bond or Empathy on Jane to find people to heal, but best of luck to your challenges. 🫡

^ great advice I second this. It’s amazing how much better things can go just by diversifying your build, or using perks that would go well with the challenges.

  • chases

    pulling clutch moments or plays

popping a gen in the Knick of time that otherwise would of cost the match

Saving the other guy in 2v1 to give us both a chance, because while I respect the killer , ultimately I have never leave a man behind if I can help it behavior; it’s really awesome when they return the favor if I got hooked because I risked it for them instead of waiting for them to die, it’s more fun to at least try than stand around.

confusing a killer so much at a loop that I can just basically pull a magic trick and get out of dodge without going down because I made their head spin because I won the mind game,

if I’m laughing because I’m just clowning with the killer or other survivors on my team, and obviously gates, hatch does nothing for me and I hate it to a great degree because the environment interactions on both sides. The only time I want to take it is when the killer straight up gives me the pass to go through it, after I’m the last man standing and offered myself to the hook. Idk I feel some kind of weird debt from how much they got straight up bullied in the past because I was on the 4mans and just didn’t really like the way 4mans treated a single player, it’s another reason why I mostly solo now, plus I just like earning mutual respect I guess.

When people risk their neck for me because I body blocked and successfully made myself the target while the killer was trying to tunnel them, even though I had to give them a free health state, because they like to pick on the weaker person and won’t consider anyone else unless they’re a one hit, they usually suck at chase because they’re taking half of them from playing off unhooks. Imagine getting your ankles broke by Dwight running prove thyself, leader, and bond , no fourth perk, with a brown medkit no add ons, not even trying to give you a hard time. You honestly can’t consider buffing some of these killers without buffing soloQ, they’ll get absolutely ate up once they go higher from the helping hand if there’s not something there to cushion that. I mean or you could consider buffing them and not touching solo, but I wouldn’t recommend it. That’s just my hot take though I guess. Sorry getting off topic.

can we please never bring this challenge back in the future cause this is frustrating and yes i have done every other challenge in the tome this is legit the last one and im tired of it

Challenge is rigged, it was made specifically for me and I only can complete it.

In terms of information it's pretty good at the moment with the status icons, I think it would be better to expand on that system more rather than just heaping more perks onto survivor basekit as a stop gap. I also maintain that the issue of soloQ is mostly an attitude problem, you are simply not incentivized to work as a team therefore there's no real reason for a soloQ survivor to worry about anything other than their own escape potential. Things like basekit kindred won't stop people from being selfish and stupid because that already happens when you run the perks anyway. I think it's better to look for ways to promote more altruistic playstyles, ones that encourage all survivors to try and look out for each other.

yeah I agree, I think icons that let people know someone is in a killers terror radius , and when someone is near the hooked survivor would help a little with bridging the gap, it’s not just blatant aura, and requires game sense. If anyone needs additional information they can always put on info/aura. I’m just thinking about the solos, or anyone new that comes into the game. The game still is a large grind. I try to be cognizant that even though I have everything unlocked and at minimum sitting at p3 on survivor, not everyone does, and not everyone has the money to afford that even if I do. I can freely swap out perks moving through ranks to fit whatever I’m noticing, not everyone can. Not to mention this would be bare minimum information that again everyone but soloQ has. Should players be punished for not choosing swf? No matter which way you build you’re lacking something that everyone else just straight up has in real time. Giving them basically free kindred, free bond, free empathy, even free alert. I don’t think some icons for soloQ is a big ask. When everyone else has basically 7 due to comms, and you’re working with 4.

I agree altruism should be encouraged, but I don’t think it should be everything. If they give icons it would probably lead to more team related perks in the solo area .instead of me related perks, bc solo is a mixed bag and you’re constantly having to switch things out I know I would run them more. Anyways solos have 4 perk slots and everyone but solo has 7 because at minimum 3 come built in for them. I run bond sometimes just to keep people from making bad decisions worse. Like running into me while healing. You can use empathy to take body blocks. Perks to for breaking los, I’m not even going down in chase at times I would have now, it’s not perfect, I’m not perfect, but it does help, meaning we aren’t one step closer to going down. I’m tired of people labeling everything they don’t run as a selfish perk, because they run or have had someone run it selfishly, I could make the same arguement in return, but I’m not because it’s counterproductive, and generally believe that most perks have their uses even if it’s not something I would run.using distortion in Heavy aura? Why are you blaming? It makes sense to put it on. Im not speaking to you directly but in general due to other comments.

And finally correct everyone else is still going to pull swf shenanigans that gets everyone killed, but sure the solo is the only selfish one.

  • yeah sure why not if they also buff solo ques requests. Buff whatever killer you want if you’re buffing up the high mmr to high mmr gap. Y’all get one from me unless I start seeing some equal exchange verbally around here, you want survivor support, you gotta give survivor support. Otherwise it’s basically crickets outside of and in return statements from you guys.

  • 1&2 Yes exactly so they can’t do that as easy, because it was a big issue, for me personally as a solo because you’re not on a trying 4 man . As a solo you end up with a lot of combinations of people:

Then duos that are good but will absolutely end up throwing matches to save each other; or the duos that make good decisions, and another solo that could also go either way due to bloated mmr/rank from swf or a solid one that makes good decisions. This is mix and match the duo and 2 solo combo, and it works because it feels fair for the rank your at or it absolutely sucks.

or there’s the 3 man you’re paired with:

They’ve trolled their way up and never touch gens, they don’t care cause you’re the random and the expendable one, but will go all out for each other, or they treat you like you are a part of the team even though you’re not on comms with them.

Listen I don’t expect people to go above and beyond in a bad move situation likely to cascade, and when I do it I knew the risk going in that I’m absolutely increasing my chance at death, but I’m not doing it at times like the start or middle of the match, it will be at the end when doors are good to go.

I wouldn’t expect that from others either. If you can’t get the save you can’t get the save, I understand, but what I can’t understand is being just left there for no reason and not even 1 person coming to check out if the killer is about or went off through two hook stages until your impaling, especially today when there’s a hud. What I do expect though when I’m paired with people it’s that they can at least read a hud and try to make moves off it.

Is the hud perfect? No, there’s some issues with it. One that I can think of as a solo that would be super helpful that bites me a bit from making good decisions,if I’m not running at least two info, is when I am on a generator and I see the pincers/mandables(whatever they are) moving on one person because they’re being chased, and I see the other person not on a gen with no alerts for actions doing what could be presumed as nothing or going to get the save already, I have to get up and go check out what’s going on now at what could be a crucial moment in gameplay for decision making that could result in snowballs at the beginning of the match or the middle of the match .

Like if they are in the killers terror radius I would consider putting a little heartbeat alert or something by them to let me know that since I don’t have comms, which tells me they’re in the thick of it near the person being chased or they’re in the thick of it near the hook. Also an icon that lets me know they’re already near the hooked survivor or pathing towards so I can be like cool they’re going for it, or okay they haven’t made a move bc the killer is in the area. I can make my own decisions from there, other solos should be able to as well.

At minimum two other people have comms and already know what’s going on between the two of them, and at worst you’re the odd person out. I think this would help without straight up giving everyone reads like a built in perk, but at least a give a ball park for personal decision making, and game comprehension.

This isn’t going change anything for 4 mans or high mmr swf, or trios they’re still going to do trio things , or duos who are still going to do Duo things, making the matches harder especially when they don’t care about you and a lot of killers don’t either, but it will exclusively help solo not feel like such a guessing game in all these match making and “rainbow” situations that no matter what the developers do are still going to happen causing fluxes, or just absolutely boning good solos bc well “that’s the solo” “‘my friend died I want out” “we just want to chase and flashbang” “I don’t like this killer, I went down early, you can already tell how it’s going to go two seconds in because someone went down early” mentalities.

They can adjust gens or gen perks if they need to if giving the solos some help changes things within too many degrees at high mmr/sbmm.

Dang I got lost in thought and my bad. I think detailed feedback helps a lot with understanding issues.

    3. Yeah I’d say if you got 1 highly skilled with three much lower put them with not a brand new but a low rank killer; or somebody that plays a lot of survivor(probably about 1000 hr up just messing around) but occasionally picks killer but is on the lower end(trust me they have enough knowledge on survivor patterns to not get their ankles broke because they’ve seen it all. They might not know how to use killer powers really well yet , but they know a great bit about game knowledge one side to not chase the one breaking their ankles for too long. Remember survivor game sense and believe it or not even if they’re brown rank and new to killer that absolutely makes a bunch of difference compared to someone that’s brown rank with no hours.

If you got something closer to lower like 1 high 1 mid and 2 low, probably a killer somewhere in the middle. They should know to give up the high, work with mid and lows until you can get the high. Honestly they need to learn it.

2 high though plus whatever else , a higher ranked killer for sure. That way they’re not getting nothing but sweat because they’re still on comms. You still get 2 easy chases but 2 people at your range. Take your breather, because there’s still a skill difference. I’d give them to people trying spacing things out.

4 man swf all high bar non running the best stuff match the top of the sweat with the sweat. They’ve got all the tools to handle it, highly coordinated and well that killer has Strat, perked out for weakness , and awesome addons. They’re un-nerfed . They both want to play like that so let them. Asking for easier matches on either side when you yourself won’t go easy makes no sense to me. If you want the easier match, be the easier match. It’s that simple. No you can’t on either side just crush someone below you, both sides of you are making the game miserable for everyone else. If you’re getting 4 man out after 4 man out, and 4k after 4k and so on you deserve each other. Everyone else doesn’t deserve you though, look at all the complaining from the top down. If you want change be the change this is basically a sandbox game dressed up as a PvP asym.

Anyways, Keep enough variety up there to keep them entertained, and want to go up because you can do cool things, bragging rights, whatever. yes that means more S tier un-nerfed (within reason, you can’t be hitting people through walls that’s crazy, I mean you can do things but at least make it make sense, he’s a ghoul not a ghost), killers to play with, for gods sake give them the Tokyo ghoul, and make him good. You want to hit people through walls tell the devs you want a ghost character that can do that so they can cook up something feasible and on brand, makes sense. Reign whoever in (killer/survivor doesn’t matter) with something that’s actually too problematic. For game health/ balance reasons.

^ This should in theory make things not too overwhelming for either side and average out skill differences. Playstyle differences , there’s still going to be shenanigans, but it should in theory make things feel fair or at least in the ballpark of. The player base will grow because people are more retainable bc it generally feels fair. People will be mostly where they should be due to playstyles/ game knowledge.

I mean they’re pretty much almost here now, just some leg work in balancing ranks/match making and emblem scoring.

also absolutely yes Smurf prevention; if I take a break and come back I shouldn’t be in lower ranks too long because I’ve got over 2000 hrs in this game, actually looked at it the other day and added it up. I feel like they have this now since I was moving up pretty quickly in the middle of a season when I came back, I wasn’t playing with the best but i was getting my sea legs back and basically double pipped my way up to gold middle gold before 2v8, the matches were so easy I could basically do everything for the whole team, those survivors must of thought I was a god; and the killers just let me through gracefully, but to be fair I wasn’t trying to take their eyes or hit them with a bunch of things, was running nothing but off meta and nothing but brown med kit no addons ; or yellow if I ran out behavior from me on my way through; I’ve got empathy for the baby killers that had to put up with me being there on the way through, and had a relatively easy time doing it, outside of shenanigans getting in my way here or there. I didn’t take a break to get rolled back, I took a break because I was burned out and a bunch of cool stuff was releasing, regardless of why yeah nobody scoring that heavy should be be down there. Leagues ahead just off basically game sense and perks that most people people would laugh at and say suck(they don’t) with no exhaustion, and the worst medkit in the game, because if you rip one or there’s healing regression in play the medkit is toasted with no addons, and as a solo I bring a medkit just in case all the time anyways. I tried not to give them too hard of a time; couldn’t help it though if they wanted to chase me all match. Yep though i would say people bubbling or staying in that range because of the current pip system deserve to be there for one reason or another, because it was very very easy pipping for me for the most part. Couldn’t tell you too much about the killer side push up side of things , I don’t really have any significant amount of time sunk into the role ultimately, I pick them up to learn how they work generally then put them down, and just support the company, occasionally if they have a super cool skin I’ll buy it just in case I ever truly pick up the role, but a killer main coming back from a break could probably tell you. I think hybridpanda is coming back, and he streams so his experience might be interesting to garner/gather from because he’s very good and has a ton of time sunk into the game, so he could probably articulate the experience well.

Wooow 🤩 You’re going to have to DM me to tell me more. I’m so intrigued. I love this so much.

Yeah sure no problem, I have my own specialty, but decent general knowledge of most things communications relates to. You’re going to have to take your profile off private as I don’t have access to it.

A lot more difficult to do too. Demogorgon only got added cause Netflix provided the model and rigging, so making a monstrous character was much easier.

Though, considering how far the game has come since then, maybe it's far more plausible now.

If that’s the case just consult with someone that specializes in that type of character model or hire a person that can do those kinds of character models. Some other developing company with a polite phone call can surely point BHVR in the right direction to get that kind of person, and just hire them for touch ups when needed if it’s a one off, but I think adding monster varieties like spiders-spider like, monster ish mermaids, prehistoric looking morphed creatures that resemble a cave person, would be a rad move. Imagine the back stories you can come up with for that and the amount of new mechanics you can add and create perks for to boost or counter things. Drenched/shiver comes to mind, you’re cold because they hit ice or water. It’s fresh new exciting and opens more doors to toy around with. I’m just getting started and that’s of the top of my head.

Yeah, there used to be a thing called emblems back in the day, when the game had actual ranks. It functioned a lot better than the system we have today. Emblems were earned based on several factors, and actually required you as a player to interact with other things than generators.
For survivors, you gained emblem progress for being in chase / winning chases, doing objectives, being altruistic and lastly, surviving the round by any means necessary (with a bonus if you did not get downed).

For killers, you gained progress from hooking (the more hooks, the better), using your power, winning chases, sacrifices / kills and halting progress for survivors (gen patrolling and kicking / regression).

The better you did, the quicker you ranked up to your skill level, and you also got matched with players of your own skill, more often than not.

    Debatable, highly debatable.

Then similar to now you could borderline carry someone up to a rank they weren’t supposed to be at by swf because naturally they were able to do more because they had more cover, and escaped more often. So then just like now, you have players in places they shouldn’t be doing similar things like swarming the hooks and causing snowballs at the start of a match from over altruism. When instead of just letting a person hang for a little bit, doesn’t crawl away from killers when slugged, or start crawling away when slugged in general and left alone. Like there’s always actions that you can tell when perks or a team has carried someone. It’s why I predominantly solo so I’m exactly at where I’m supposed to be.

Idk if I want it to go back to exactly that SBMM, but I do believe if they do SBMM lightbringer and evader should be your heaviest categories graded , but altruism and boldness count for less(not count for nothing but count for less when considering grading skill to progress the rank). So you don’t end up with people who can’t touch gens and can’t last a certain amount of time in a chase at the top, because ending up grouped with people who run around waiting or standing around waiting for saves that entire time , and over boldness from over stealthing sucked much. I know because I never really cared for “second chance perks” that much, and preferred info perks to see what was going on since I wasn’t on comms to help make better decisions for the team or perks that would silence my crying or erase my scratch marks quicker for line of sight breaking. A lot of players straight up were doing the most mid level knows some but not enough- to new person played with their friends things. I still get annoyed thinking about it. Should hatch help your scoring, not much, but gates should count. Do I care if I escape all the time? No! I do care about if my team is actually trying though, because I’m trying. People should want to at least try.

You shouldn’t just pip down after a few matches so you can feel good picking on people lower than you, you should be actively trying to get better, it’s a PvP game. If you want to play like that fine, I don’t think anyone should stop you honestly the game is what you make it, but I don’t think you should get bragging rights of R1 or high mmr if you’re not trying to escape and be a team player on the team side. Like honestly just change the tag line to escaping is not an option if at red ranks you get grouped with two people flash banging the killer while they repeatedly down the poor person that got boosted from their friends and doesn’t know how to interact with killers even a little. If I’m up in red ranks I want to at least feel like I have a 50/50 chance at winning whether I’m solo or not, and be grouped with people that also deserve to be there because they’re at least trying for the gate.

    Edited for grammar.

  • it’s against the rules, and stated on the forum homepage. Why should people care if killers are purposely trying to annoy survivors, if the majority of players don't care when literal SWF bully squads are purposely trying to annoy killers?

We should care about both or neither.

I agree, you can’t care about one and not the other.

  • I haven’t played it yet but was planning to, but after reading this I don’t think I will be playing chaos shuffle. Shame it could have been fun to see both sides working with whatever was dealt and seeing if it was feasible.

  • if it’s built into the killers power because they’re lacking something elsewhere pretty heavily that’s not covered up by using a singular perk, sure. Like pig and hellraiser for example.

for another thing to keep me occupied to slow down gen times against heavily oppressive things and when you do make it out it was barely that slows the game for survivor across the board no matter who you face, absolutely not. Hard no. It’s a barely surviving to a half the time at best for most of the general survivor players right now. It’s a very hard no from me on that front.

Little archive challenges here and there that I can accomplish over time because it’s a lot or feasibly do without throwing a match are fine. If you want to put in a harder one here and there to test skill fine.

It really depends on what you’re talking about.

On balance? Yeah, I'm having fun playing solo queue. I've been doing it for half of my 6K hours and I keep doing it, so I must be (or I'm a masochist).

But match to match (or hour to hour) it's a roller coaster for sure. I escape somewhere around 35-40% of the time overall, but I might have a play session where I don't escape once. Bot otoh, I have days where I escape left and right. Heck, yesterday I escaped in seven consecutive matches. That's not a normal thing by any means, but just it's feast or famine out there.

But I think solo isn't that bad, and a lot of people get too caught up in the moment when things are not going well. I do get it, some days playing solo queue feels like an exercise in abject futility, but those moments pass. So much of the solo experience is based on RNG/SBMM, and we can't control that. And that's why taking it too seriously is a bad idea. But people saying it's "unplayable" may or may not need to relax.

I often wonder how many people who feel the most aggrieved by solo normally play in a SWF. Because yeah, if that's your baseline experience, solo is gonna feel awful.

I also wonder how many people just give up/stop really trying when things start to go sideways and then complain about how they never escape.

But the game is designed around a 60% killer win rate, so to me, the solo experience seems like it's as it is intended to be. I mean you're supposed to go into every match feeling like death is at least the most likely outcome (though not a certainty, even if it feels like that some days). The SWF experience is the one that isn't "normal".

But you can't play solo queue and let your escape rate dictate your fun. I mean you can, but that mindset is incompatible with sanity.

That makes a lot of sense. Naturally if you’re sinking pretty much equal amounts of time into both roles and trying a bunch of different things you’ll have a greater understanding of how most things work from both ends. It makes you a better player. You learn how survivors chain, and you learn how killers work, and what works against them because it happens to you. You learn their limitations and how perks on both sides work.

Edited to also say: absolutely it’s a day and night difference between being on a coordinated team and solo. Even built in huds can’t make up for the difference but do help a lot. If you play like you’re swf while playing solo your teammates can help you out because you’re probably paired with a 3 man or a 2 man. I just crawl to pallets and do things I would do if I was on comms with them, and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. Good decisions make differences.

  • anyways servers can’t get too hot and it’s starting to get hot in Europe this time of year, and idk about the rest of Europe but England specifically doesn’t have central heat and air , so so a mass server station in probably a warehouse that functions for something like gaming companies will probably be down more often than not for maintenance, so you’ll get put on NA servers, if they are moving you, if you’re not vpning in more. Because unfortunately servers have a weakness and it’s heat. So they have two options they can blow their whole system(nobody in their right mind would do that) or shut it off so it can cool down. It’s not because it’s bad equipment, it’s because it’s hot. So anyways yeah just another thing I know.

Learning is something I love to do. Your write-up was nice. Thank you for keeping our games on ☺️

I love learning things too, but I don’t work for BHVR or any game development company, but I’d like to one day! It’s my dream job! Right now I have prior commitments I’m contracted to but I do work in and around while not spitting image a similar setting creating products for a mass and am gainfully employed elsewhere.

Do they have their own personal server team at BHVR working for them in the same building with the servers on location at multiple locations idk, but who I work for does, that’s not a brag, I’m just saying, lots of people do contract out to perform a task they don’t want to internally or can’t internally do for whatever variable. Like I said the people I work for do; so I know why; I’ll share why.

I’m sure if whoever does that for them saw you said though that they would really appreciate it, because cyber in general gets a lot of hate for things that are for everyone’s benefit, and not because they’re trying to stick it to you and get away with something.

  • @xCakeStick said:

I use ExitLag so I can see the servers that I am connecting to, and I am from the UK. At least once per day, all the European and UK players will get placed into an NA server which makes us all have 200 ping for that entire game, for it to be fixed the new time we queue. Very weird, indeed.

not that weird, it’s actually a standard practice, I work in communications and internal tests and maintenance are perfectly normal that shut down everything mostly for facility reasons, they call them generator tests, and well no power means no servers when testing generators to make sure back ups work, everything goes out.I don’t work specifically in that area, I’m in data, but yeah I work with a very large variety of people in cyber, and naturally learn things here and there outside your expertise, and the amount of specialists will shock you. Also yep mostly wiring maintenance for servers so you can enjoy your games, you just gotta suffer a tiny bit sometimes so the entire system doesn’t go to poo. When it’s down longer it’s usually because system replacements and set up times. So power testing plus server maintenance/up keep.

Realistically on a game like this with no real competitive scoring because there’s no public leaderboards from the developers, there’s no cash prizes, and there’s no trophy, so anything under 150 is fine. Just enjoy the game and don’t sweat it. : ) I hope your region gets a server.

I still don't see the need for the distortion nerf, but whatever. It's just another perk for the pile at this point.

But as for the most common reasonings for this nerf, I just don't buy it:

"But it was used by rats to hide all match". Yep. Now they just use lockers. Still hides the auras, permanently, and avoids crows. Great success. So I guess we'll move the goal post and target that next or something.

"One perk shouldn't counter an entire category". By this logic, lightborn should also be nerfed. That counters entire categories of both perks and items, has no charges, no restrictions, no cooldown, infinite use. It's also one of the only actual hard counters in the entire game for those reasons.

(Personally I think lightborn is fine, but if you're arguing this point for distortion, you've got some real mental gymnastics going on.)

But no, don't expect distortion to be buffed.

lightborn I agree not a problem even though there’s no counter, plague ( try your best not to feed her power only when you have to) and legion(just disperse) not a problem, there’s counters even though they counter pretty hard some areas. Just pointing out the double standard logic that goes on around here sometimes. Distortion though on fallen ears counters, don’t even need perk counters look at crows flying off, they literally bug off if something near it that’s not an inanimate object, favorite built in perk, love those lil guys 🫶 but yeah excited about the anti excessive hiding mechanic, and hope it helps alleviate the nose picking that can go on. Only thing I can really think of that shouldn’t affect it is killer terror radius, I mean despite popular opinion the main objective for survivor is well to stay alive as long as possible, and sometimes not getting into to chase and hiding(not to hold the game hostage) is the best move. Nothing against chase; it’s just not everything. It’s 1/4 of the whole picture. Wild majestic beasts those emblems. Cause no offense but if I’m injured and full health survivor with killer right behind them runs in my direction because they don’t know I’m healing there or something I’m hopping in a locker and I’m not getting out until it’s safe to do so, sometimes the killers they refuse to break pallets, for some reason(probably bloodlust or because they’re not aware that’s a strong pallet) and it takes a while, and I think that’s reasonable. I’m not going to feel bad about that. Lockers can be friends for appropriate reasons, outside of excessive hiding. Some things are just smart, and some things are just well “lemme not do anything to get hatch”.

Jumping in because its usually fun! <3

ONE survivor perk should not be able to count FOUR killer perks AT ONCE. Almost all gen regression and killer chase perks have zero counter yet aura has the most counters.

Just to be devil's advocate, you are completely speculating in your final paragraph. Also, the perk isn't needed to do the thing you're claiming it does. I mean… it does do that, but from the way you are speaking, you're well versed in the game. So if they need a perk to do anything with knowing your perks, you're probably going to stomp them anyway.

Also what does 'morale compass' mean exactly? Everyone else's morale are screwed up suddenly? Did you need that added weight to reinforce these thin excuses to shame a perk? Anyway, as you triumphantly claimed that gen regression and K-chase perks have no counter, but auras had one perk to counter them all, then whats the problem? You have your lightborn, we had Distortion. You listed three categories of perks for killers and of them two have zero counters? That's really not enough? And I mean to be honest, with all those perks without counters, you're complaining about a perk that counters only one category? I am all for balance, but help me understand, genuinely.

The argument of rat players abusing it is prevalent, but it wasn't an epidemic and is just as prevalent now. It's also not something that should gut a perk. BHVR adjusting how crows work and detecting this player behavior fixes this. Is this hard? I've no idea. But I'm hoping it's worked towards anyway.

And finally I saw 'made me' tunnel someone because they were the one who didn't have the perk. Like that's ever stopped anyone and apparently tunneling is something at epidemic levels. (lol, to be clear, I don't share that sentiment, as getting tunneled gives you nothing but the chase as survivor, and that's all I want lol. But I'm not everyone.) You gotta take credit for your own actions, as its still a kill, your objective, the golden crutch. Wasn't Distortion's fault at all.

    edit: grammar, clearer wording.

Just another day on the forums <3

You branch off from meta with a perk that arguably helped them when used wrong, and well they petitioned to have it strung to chase, but I mean I’m not going to stand in the way of that if you know what I mean 😅 pointless nerf to pacify, truly. So many counters to it.

I’m not mad about it, wish it was three tokens still, but eh could have been worse imo and as someone that actually uses it so I don’t have to repeatedly jump in lockers , and do the go this way go that way game to counter heavy aura that eats up important time, ya know that old trick, like every 10-15, 30 seconds in the middle of an aura /gen regression meta. I’m grateful for the sparing.

Survivors will be fine, I’m fine, if they think it’s useless now there’s like 20 other perks that work similarly enough(fun business is what you can find if you branch out and have all your stuff unlocked) , they’ll eventually find. I’m still going to run it, at least I can’t be blamed for everyone else’s decisions now for using a support perk at its best that wasn’t actively stalling killer progression, and noob friendly perk that worked in the killers favor at its worst. I’m probably the minority, but yeah it’s a thanks from me!

2 probably close to fair, but it feels like they go really fast sometimes, and nobody is even down or just went down, so can’t be blamed for their tunneling anymore, and the support reason for using it is negligible at that point purely from a start of match perspective, That’s just my take though. There’s always mid and endgame though. Again, I’m not chilling in a corner or hiding in a locker trying to count my precious tokens to avoid the killer, I run it to avoid the locker pop in game or the go this way then go that way game.

Crazy enough being in a chase with them before was pushing my tokens, because I said it before and I’ll say it again pointless nerf, they don’t understand emblems, or how it works. They can go off though I guess. Something you can’t fix, rip distortion(I’ll still be using you). In my eyes I’ve still got distortion sure it’s a little less effective now, but it doesn't breed hiding, or getting your teammates killed now, and Imo those were the biggest complaints. Mostly balanced and supports interactions 🫶👌 love you mean it!

yeah nice try but that’s not how that perk worked, you got 3 bob and if they were hooking , and doing the things that made it go off that meant they were sitting in your terror radius the entire time and you couldn’t be bothered and ignored them(which happens, I run it, i see it, i see the types, not saying it was you) or they hid right under the killer the entire time doing nothing, making it essentially a killer perk. because if they were doing something the killer would hear or see you, sound is important yes?unless the killer was basically doing nothing and chasing unhooks and straight up ignoring the person they hadnt hooked yet, and if you’re far enough away it’s only three, you’re telling me the aura perks didn’t go off through 9 hooks and they didn’t get a read on them once? and they weren’t right beside the killer the entire time? You really should have ran it. At worst rat perk, Again I’m against it being tied to boldness for that reason, also you can sleep well knowing they rest in low ranks because there’s no pipping doing the rat move my guy, so what else ya got?

  • @Bodark said:

I never ran distortion because I have a moral compass that prevents me from using ridiculously overpowered perks. That’s why I never used old Adrenaline.

It did help rats rat which made me tunnel out the people who didn’t have Distortion because they are the only ones I couldn’t find. Now I can hook everyone equally. No matter how you slice it, it was blatantly overpowered.

I remember getting 9 hooks in 5 minutes and not getting a single aura read because they figured out all my aura perks by watching the distortion tokens leave and then they would hide in lockers any time I went to hook or kick a Gen and so on. ONE survivor perk should not be able to count FOUR killer perks AT ONCE. Almost all gen regression and killer chase perks have zero counter yet aura has the most counters.

yeah nice try but that’s not how that perk worked, you got 3 bob and if they were hooking , and doing the things that made it go off that meant they were sitting in your terror radius the entire time and you couldn’t be bothered and ignored them(which happens, I run it, i see it, i see the types, not saying it was you) or they hid right under the killer the entire time doing nothing, making it essentially a killer perk. because if they were doing something the killer would hear or see you, sound is important yes?unless the killer was basically doing nothing and chasing unhooks and straight up ignoring the person they hadnt hooked yet, and if you’re far enough away it’s only three, you’re telling me the aura perks didn’t go off through 9 hooks and they didn’t get a read on them once? and they were right beside the killer the entire time? Also okay and should 1 killer perk be able to counter 16 survivor perks and blank out a whole squad with that arguement? You just being 1 killer be able to blank out 16 survivor perks? This is a straw man arguement. There’s tons of things that blank out whole entire builds for survivor. Just being plague or legion negates any healing build, once person that’s 4 perks, a medkit, and add ons. 4 survivors stacking and being plague alone blanks out 16 perks, 4 medkits and 8 addons. Should we nerf plague, don’t even get me started on how if you pop lightborn on her your negated two entire survivor builds. I mean we can do this if you really want to, but honestly I find it quite boring doing the who has it worse and would rather talk about how to make it a balanced and fun perk to still use.

I agree that tunneling feels really bad. I personally only use it if I know I'm against a co-ordinated SWF that is trying to genrush me to hell. Removing a player from the game is undeniably one of the strongest things you can do for gen pressure. The same is true for slugging, because it forces a player to go save them anyway, without the time commitment of hooking. I wish that BHVR would change the balance of the game so that tunneling and slugging wasn't encouraged while slowing the pace of gens down to compensate.

When it comes to newer players, though, I feel like the best perks they can run are info perks like Kindred, Deja Vu, stuff like that. When I play survivor, I love killer aura builds, personally; especially in solo queue

yeah it sucks, there’s a lot of tactics on both sides that make each side pretty miserable, which I try to be cognizant of, so if you take out one, you’re going to have to take out the other in response, and now you’ve risked losing demographics due to lack of variety, and staleness. So I ask myself what would I do? What would you do? Idk I think I think too much, and I’m just pro give everyone incredibly busted things and let people be to the vices. Learn adapt, and if not adapt alter to a tolerable level because you want to keep your player base and not straight up take away toys to the point it’s not fun anymore for either side.

The point is enough people don’t like the distortion change that I think it’s in the realm of conversation to tie it to something else even though I’m not particularly invested in what it’s tied to as long as it’s not boldness(being in the killer terror radius), and helps the team, you’re not going to learn anything if you hide all match, you gotta be a little brave.

Listen I know you were right under their nose to keep your tokens up, but they’re just going to hit you with I don’t have time to look in the locker or right behind the wall, or the rock, or even right behind me. Honestly devs did me a favor changing it from boldness, as your teammate and a distortion user. If y’all want it not tied to chase(distortion users), say that, but you gotta speak up, but it’s generally agreed the boldness condition promotes very unhealthy gameplay on both sides, and I think that’s fair to say no to.

You got three options chase, gens, or saving/healing your friends, but you gotta speak up. I’m trying to help y’all out here. Because I use this perk offensively and strategically. Under no circumstances though should this perk go back to boldness.

At minimum though if they don’t speak up one more token please 🙏 one is about to be in the tank bc of lethal off the bat once you change to spawn together, they’re plotting already, I actually use this perk, it’s in my rotation, and I’m not hiding, if they find me doing things they find me doing things but 2 on a chase condition with lethal locked and loaded when your forced to spawn together is whack.

  • @SnakeManvsArbok said:

As a 450 hr. player (who does play majority killer out of preference), I feel like the Distortion nerf was very healthy. More experienced players have much better macro gameplay than I do, and can usually hunt down a Distortion player through other intel like gen progress, or deducting who could be going for saves.

The nerf was made in such a way that you still get a lot of value from it if you chase a killer well, but it isn't the "turn off aura perks" button it used to be. I forcing Distortion users to enter chase makes sneaking around against a newer killer much less practical, and forces more gameplay interactions. Realistically, in the hands of someone who can loop well, you're only gonna feel the nerf sometimes, but it makes things for newer players like me who tend to lean into aura perks to help me process the macro better.

and that’s fine, not even a wrong take, but what about new survivors learning mechanics as well just trying not to get tunneled out immediately?

On the flip side there’s plenty of really great killer mains that go full aura on s tier killers that have no problems with loops, just because well they can, and that’s not even counting several thousand hour huntresses that got no real problems hitting their hatchets and are as good with aim prediction as a great nurse with blinks. There’s always the higher end of things to think about, or even the other side with similar(game mechanics) but different struggles(opposite side).

    I’m just saying, respectfully.

Given that they run a full aura build on Huntress, I can see why they think that Distortion was guilty of war crimes.

They swear it’s of the highest degree. If people didn’t use it to hide the whole time I wouldn’t have been like yeah it can probably use some sort of change that doesn’t allow that.

Yeah though I’d tie it to saves or gens instead, you’re being a productive part of the team, and if you’re doing either you’re guaranteed to be seen and chased unless well ya know they’re actively trying to hard tunnel the person off the hook.

It also has a built in counter consistently aside from just being near others or being productive , crows, and you don’t even need a perk for that. That’s crazy I know, who would see a crow flying and be like yep there’s a survivor over there? Spies from the shadows gives you a blasting crow alert that is basically a survivor alert, whispers if they’re hiding, tons of other perks that give away location outside of aura. Listen don’t get me started because I can go on and on about this perk, counters, and how the only thing that needed to change was boldness, and scratch marks being covered.

I still laugh that people got distortion of all things nerfed, and found it to be as big of a deal as it was made out to be outside of anything that tied it to boldness which fueled excessive hiding. Straight up a hand holding moment for killer, that came from lacking game sense and unwillingness to put on something else that’s a perfectly good substitute if you care that much about full location, and I hope they realize that. I’m not trying to be rude, but it is what it is.

It needed it. Was way too strong. A overpowered perk that was even more overpowered in SWF. Rest In Piss Distortion!

not really, most of the time the perk bought you a little time to get a safe save or finish a gen without being consistently pushed off, but that didn’t guarantee you weren’t getting chased of you weren’t doing absolutely nothing, and how just being near others blew your cover and wasted the tokens. If you were doing absolutely nothing I’d argue in great detail how it’s basically a killer perk at that point. You ran it plenty though right? I know I did.

  • idk if they should put it back in boldness considering people were just using it to do absolutely nothing according to some killer mains, which I think is pretty unhealthy for the sake of gameplay, but they definitely should consider buffing the token amount. I ended up in chases most of the time anyways when using the perk because objectives before the nerf. I’m fine with chase, but also wouldn’t mind if it were tied to gens or saves. Realistically there’s killers that patrol gens and killers that wait in the wings for the unhook so they can’t say they didn’t see you. As a teammate I would prefer people be doing something productive other than farming the tokens back up with boldness.

  • I’ve been put with a lot of people running sables perk invocation weaving spiders lately.

It takes a percentage off all gens but you’re broken the rest of the match.

  • That’s 7.5 full days out of a 14 day week. Obsessed is a word that can fit. Maybe it’s their hyper fixation, or livelihood.

interesting, for some reason my ps4 hours don’t show.

I mean like I can see it, but I have heard others say they can’t see the ps4 hours for it.
