Self-Care; In case you're new to DbD and don't know what this perk is:

Self-Care is a perk that allows survivors to heal themselves infinitely with no item, at 50% of the normal healing speed. This means that, as opposed to the 10 second heal from fellow survivors or self-healing with medkits, Self-Care takes a survivor 20 seconds to heal themselves. It is a teachable Claudette Morel perk.

Any DbD player can tell you that this is the single most powerful perk in a survivor's arsenal. This perk is a staple at every rank, and the difference in survivability and capability between having/not having this perk, is immensely large.

Every player has access to this perk, as due to the 2.0 update, each character starts with a perk slot unlocked and all of the specific character's tier 1 perks unlocked. A brand new player has tier 1 Self-Care on their Claudette.

Now that we've got that out the way, here's why it's broken, and what I would do to fix it:

    1) Self-Care makes relying on other survivors for heals less efficient than Self-Care healing, and as such makes healing other survivors a waste of time and irrelevant.

-I posted this in DbD Alliance Discord's #dbd-discussions chat, and rather than editing it into a wall-of-text style analysis, I will be leaving it as-is, so that this post is somewhat more interactive.
    "
So, just had a thought. Since Self-Care heals at 50% speed, it takes 2x time to heal? 20 seconds as opposed to 10?

So, Self-Care'ing a single survivor takes the same time that it would take for 2 survivors to heal each other in one spot, to heal a single survivor? And that's why it's balanced, because of the healing speed reduction?

Well, if that's the case, then wouldn't 2 survivors Self-Care'ing simultaneously also take 20 seconds for them both to be healed?
Meaning that the supposed downside of Self-Care, the slower healing speed, is not actually a downside (since the Self-Care and regular healing times are the exact same)?
Because on top of not being bound to a fellow survivor/having to search for a fellow survivor/both survivors stuck in the same location during the heals, at least one of the two Self-Care users is completely safe from the killer during this healing, since it is physically impossible for the killer to be in multiple places at the same time.

And now, if we consider that 3 or 4 survivors are injured, the same holds true as above (in terms of inconveniences and lack thereof of the context of SC vs not having SC), and the normal 40 seconds of healing time for each survivor to heal the other, gets reduced to 20 seconds if they all simultaneously heal with Self-Care, twice as fast.

So, isn't Self-Care actually a universal buff to healing speed and efficiency?
    "

-How I would solve this problem, is by nerfing the healing speed of Self-Care down to 25% of healing speed, so that Self-Care'ing takes 40 seconds, and as such Self-Care'ing will never be more efficient than finding a fellow survivor to heal oneself. The people who played DbD before Self-Care's recent buff will know exactly how long this will take to heal, since this is more or less the former healing speed of tier 1 Self-Care. The current 20 second heal would become a 40 second heal, effectively making Self-Care a perk for emergency situations, but not something to be abused the hell out of, like it is now.

    2) It is as powerful as 4x We'll Make It. 4 survivors healing each other in 5 seconds each, takes 20 seconds. 4 survivors healing themselves with Self-Care at the same time, takes exactly as long.

-If Self-Care is more powerful than 4x We'll Make It, when We'll Make It provides the largest healing speed bonus possible, just imagine by what margin it blows all other healing perks out of the water. Figured I'd mention that.

    3) It completely negates a killer power - Freddy's/The Nightmare's

Back when Small Game was an absolute counter to the Trapper because it highlighted his traps with an orange aura within 6 meters (I believe it was 6 meters, but it was so long ago that I'm not entirely certain), it got gutted because of its potential to bully the hell out of the Trapper since Small Game/Saboteur was meta at the time (as well as for the devs to be able to say that there's a perk that finds totems, since totems were new at the time).

How I'd nerf Self-Care in this regard, is to change it so that in a match against Freddy/The Nightmare, Self-Care does NOT give skill checks. At all.

    So, what do y'all think?

Apparently, editing proper spacing into the OP got the thread removed, so I'm reposting it here as-was before the edit that removed it. I'm relatively new to these forums, but now I know what NOT to do, at least. Figured I'd @ the people who originally commented on the thread, in case they're still interested.

If you say that people use self-care all the time and its op use nurse's calling//sloppy butcher/coulrophobia - problem solved.

I am a console player of DBD and IMO Huntress is not very good on console. One of the reasons behind this is this is that it is much harder to aim with a controller than a mouse AND there is also a limitation to sensitivity on console.

So I was just wondering if the devs may ever add in a crosshair for Huntress on console to help her out a bit?

I've never played Huntress. But you can adjust killer and survivor camera speed in settings separately

  • Not me. I'm on ps4 but my guess is every single game it's swf judging by their playstyle and the way survivors join (always 3 or 4 at the same time). If they join one by one I find myself waiting for about half-an-hour. Utc-4

  • I think they should start by fixing a game in the bug

The focus on a priest, Oni mask and a love for alcohol definitely fits the hints and teasers given so far. The Oni mask in particular really is the main focus and must be related to the killer I feel.

Does anyone know what the two scrolls say?

I just watched a video on those three actually https://youtube.com/watch?v=6vfdu3jafzM .

No no and NO. Kuchisake-Onna got slaughtered by her samurai husband for cheating. The mask will be a cosmetic as well as the sword im sure. Lmaoo how you got Oni killer from that idk what you seen. First thing you see on the screen and you jump at it lol i guess when Kate was teased you thought the killer would attack with a guitar huh? Context clues my boy, context clues.

kuchisake-onna didn't "get slaughtered by her husband" she killed herself. You should read a little first boy

  • Kuchisake-onna wears a surgical mask though. But anyway we'll all find out soon enough

  • I doubt BEhavior would copy or try to resemble killers from other games

I think the new killer is the woman screaming

Yeah I also have the same feeling.

Scratch that. I just found this - https://youtube.com/watch?v=B_u3I65lvWQ

  • I think the new killer is the woman screaming

  • Takes the fun out of the game. If the killer's camping survivors should just do the gens right away instead of going for a save, but the urge of being able to save a teammate usually prevails

  • Same here no noed but the all camped by the hook

  • Ok found them. Thanks. Just weird that its not in add-ons section of the game.

  • And I think David King is bugged since he's not even for sale

Yeah, purchase each chapter through the PSN store. Not the actual game. Most are 6.99 to 7.99

It's not in the store though https://store.playstation.com/en-ca/product/UP3509-CUSA08444_00-DEADBYDAYLIGHT00

  • Just ignore them and enjoy the game. Those players are definitely compensating for something. You can also report them under certain circumstances.

Why would it? Calm Spirit makes that you don't alert Crows. How can you not alert the crows that are legit floating above you?

Meaning the crows wouldn't start floating on top of you in the first place

Hillbilly's power is useless on indoor maps and are I find them hard to play on And no I'not against them. They could add a map that has a mix of a complex 1-2 story half demolished buildings really close to each other which is set on outskirts of the field.

Even on Meat Plant? There are some decent spaces there I would have thought for chainsaw action? I don't think I have ever played against a hillbilly on that map though.

Meat plan has a decent open area upstairs. Best map for hag.

  • I only tbag the killer if he hooks 1 survivor and then face camps him until he's dead then moves to the next one.*ahemwraith. Just be careful with shape tier 3 or noed.https://youtube.com/watch?v=78mgAaKdBRo

  • Don't know my guess it has been changed since it says so in a forum the just didn't correct info in game. I' m getting my last few chops today though just in case.

You can only grab injured survivors, if they vault windows or pallets. Healthy survivors can only be grabbed out of lockers and unhooks. To grab them, you also have to be very close and tap attack. You can't lunge attack, you have to get close enough until the Grab prompt pops up. Know that its never "beneficial" to grab distancewise. Lunging will always be the superior and safe option, unless you know you have the time to get close. In that case you can save some seconds wiping your weapon and going around the vault.

Tl;dr: Tap attack, dont lunge. Only works against injured survivors, except for lockers and unhooks.

Ive seen a healthy survivor pulled off a window before

Except it doesn't always work with lockers I'll end up hitting a locker while the survivor jumps out and yes I am doing a regular attack not a lunge. Same with hooks I can clearly see that they are still in animation of unhooking a survivor but it still ends up being a regular hit which does down them when they are injured but no grab. I also grabbed non-injured survivors off the generators. I think it's due to the game inconsistency. Especially with the hag after the teleport.

We need "yes" "no" and the ability to jump.

Don't know about jump. The game has a vault mechanic for a reason. And if they'd give us that they'd make slow down upon landing anyway. But it would be funny to see The Shape jumping around like an easter bunny.

  • looks like a traditional Japanese house

  • Yeah. They need do balance it you shouldn't be able to to go there with hag. If you don't have a flashlight you're screwed. Doctor will probably have the same issue in treatment mode.

  • As I was saying it would be an option, therefore improved matchmaking And I don;t consider watching youtube to learn everything about a killer/survivor to be a part of my game-play experience. Since you should be learning in game based on the data the game gives you.

  • PS4. Various maps.Playing with survivor frame drop/lag moves back and forth, left to right(especially inside building hallways and in the first 30-60 seconds of the match on any map). Dropping pallets- survivors steps back/killer ends up being on the other end =free hit. Hillbily frame drop during chainsaw sprint. Doctor in treatment mode. Various killers frame drop during the chase.
