What can I say, I find the law (specifically the application of the law) fascinating when it's written in a semi legible way (like Canada's Acts are, and totally unlike the UK's Acts are)

That’s an interesting question I don’t really have a concrete answer to. We have a resident law student on these forums, though.
@GoodBoyKaru would you be able to explain this?
Without seeing the exact contract, no, but I can take a guess.
Before doing so, however, I'd like to clarify I am not a trained, practicing lawyer, and while I have an A-Level in Law and am working on my Law Degree, this is all not legal advice.
Netflix could argue in a court of law that the Stranger Things cosmetics returning to the store would intice players into purchasing cosmetics, even if just with Shards, and would put them into a spending mood and thus would be a marketing tactic for BHVR to increase player count and sales. Moreover, they'd be doing this all with property that isn't their own. There's a reason why every licenced trailer, teaser, tome, cosmetic collection, etc. always has the copyright of the licence holder.
Without licence (Alternative word, permission) to use their content, Netflix could sue for Copyright infringement, and using the argument earlier would also be able to claim damages equal in value to whatever their legal team estimates the boost in revenue gained by having those cosmetics in the store is.
Moreover, every licenced cosmetic and chapter purchased requires a percentage of the revenue to be sent to the copyright holder as a "royalty" - an amount of money paid to the original copyright holders as payment in exchange for the allowing of their Intellectual Property (IP). This is outlined in the contract both parties formed and signed to enable the use of Stranger Things within Dead By Daylight. Selling these cosmetics for shards would still require BHVR send the royalty, as per the contract, and so they would be losing money just for keeping them in the store.
Finally, another reason could be that they legally cannot. It doesn't matter if the cosmetics are for sale for Iridescent Shards or Auric Cells, under the games End User Licencing Agreement (EULA), both are defined under "Digital Currencies" which are used to purchase "Digital Goods". I'd suspect something similar would be in the contract. While the contract is valid, BHVR are able to sell the cosmetics (the "Digital Goods") however once the contract has expired (or has been broken) they are no longer able to sell these cosmetics for any value whatsoever.
Again, I am not a lawyer, and despite me having studied the law for the past few years now, I have not been trained as either solicitor or barrister and this is not, and should not be interpreted as, legal advice.
Edit: I felt like doing some research, so if BHVR were to sell the cosmetics again and be found in breach of copyright infringement, here's what would happen.
Before that, however, we need to define the different types of crime. These are outlined in the Canada Criminal Code.
A summary offence is the least serious, tried in smaller courts for smaller values. The general rule is that the value of this crime cannot be more than CA$5000, and as such the punishment cannot equal more monetary value than CA$5000, a prison sentence of more than 2 years, or both, unless otherwise stated by the law.
An indictable offence is the most serious, tried in larger courts for larger values. In the UK, this is usually tried in the High Court (Criminal Division), although could be tried as a civil case under the Multi-Track system. Essentially, it's anything over CA$5,000 (again, unless stated by law), and so the punishment cannot be anything less than CA$5,000, 2 years imprisonment, or both.
The punishment for copyright infringement in Canada is outlined in s.2(1) of the Copyright Act (R.S.C 1985). There are two different punishments, which relate to the severity of the crime.
For a summary offence, the punishment would be a fine of up to CA$25,000, 6 months imprisonment, or both (s.42(2.1)(b)).
For an indictable offence, the punishment can be a fine of up to CA$1,000,000, 5 years of imprisonment, or both (s.42(2.1)(a)).
So yeah, facing 5 years of imprisonment, a 1 million dollar fine, on top of being able to also be sued for damages and a potential breach of contract? I wouldn't risk it if I were BHVR.

3 really good survivors following me around all game with flashlights trying to get saves, taking hits, etc. is about as much fun as 4 really good survivors smashing out gens, but at least in one of those scenarios I get to play the game for more than 2 seconds. I'd take beamers over medkits and toolboxes any day.
-
Given that BHVR have already patched it out once before, and that tampering with the game files is a specific no as outlined in the EULA (where modifying icons is an exception, not a rule, and they've clearly said that if EAC changes it's stance they won't help you) I'd say that any form of tampering with the game files, such as modifying them to change animations, runs the risk of you being banned.
-
Omg guys do you hear that?
Sounds like a SEEHUND SAMSTAG (for Europe)

Now maybe instead of blaming Haddie for the lack of Twins cosmetics we can blame Huntress, Legion, Spirit (and also, still blame Felix, Feng, Meg, Mikaela, and Vittorio) all because Haddie players on Twitter got BHVR's attention so they gave her 1 (one!!) new skin since her release
-

I don't think any of the survivors or killers should be assigned a gender or sexuality. every player should decide for himself how he plays his character.
Damn unfortunately every character has been assigned one since June 2016 when pronouns were used in their character bios so I fear it's a bit late for that.

I wish I knew !
But their offences list is probably due for a good refreshing.
I reported someone last year for bodyblocking me in a corner for half the game and the support told me it wasn't ban-worthy because at the time there was no mention of hostage holding on the page and "bodyblocking" was specifically said not to be a bannable offense.
It got dealt with and edited afterwards, so yeah. The support ticket being optional might be a mistake ?
But in any case it's interesting, and definitely deserves being brought up !
Tbh I reported someone for blatent hacking and chat abuse with several Screenshots and a twitch vod for proof and was told that because they weren't on Steam there's no possible way they could've been speaking in endgame chat. It took me three tries of telling them that the evidence is right there in the video and that they are Windows store (and literally finding their profile on my friends Xbox as proof) before they even read beyond the subject line and actually investigated the hacking part at all.
It was a fun experience, that's for certain.

Tbh it depends on how early the dc is, and how much I feel like it impacted the match. Multiple DCs within 2 minutes? Kill the others quickly to get the misery over with. Really good player DCs on first down/hook? Likely a big reason as to me winning so I'll play out as usual and give hatch at the end. Someone DCs on death hook? Makes literally no difference I'll just play as usual. Getting stomped pre-DC and that's all that saves the game? I'll feel bad and let them go, maybe farm a bit.
But, that's just what I do based on my experience in the game on both sides and what I'd want most to happen to me. You do whatever you want, because there's no rules as to whatever you should do, and unlike other certain playstyles there's not even an argument for ruining fun, because farming is somehow less fun than sitting on gens all game/facecamping a survivor. Just go with whatever you feel like doing at the time

Been playing plenty of Dredge recently to get the Bump in the Night achievement and P3 for it's perks (and tbh I had the world's worst hangover after getting drunk and hooking up with my ex so it wouldn't matter if I played it because my headache couldnt get worse) and it feels fine. And what happened there, @fnerfner, is exactly the reason why this post should stay pinned. Because there will always be people like that who can use this thread as a resource to educate themselves on the value and importance of representation, or to out themselves as someone who cannot control bigotry. Either way, this thread is incredibly important and still relevant to the forums and dbd as a whole even almost a year later.

Me looking at you posting essentially alt-right proganada videos complete with anti-covid, anti-mask, anti-vaccine rhetoric and a general mysogonistic feeling on all of the videos on onlyfans, wondering how you think these are reputable sources:
like damn babygirl if my only form of exposure to the lgbt community was through these videos id think all the queers are out to kill us but need i remind you that trans people are being legally oppressed in MEDCs to this day, in the year 2023 (see the UK government enacting s.35 of the Scotland Act 1988, or that conversion therapy is still legal for transgender people to this day, for just two examples) and that support for the lgbt+ community is falling daily. LEDCs have even worse regard for human rights, in particular the rights of anyone that isn't cisgendered or heterosexual (see Article 269 of the Criminal Code of Ethiopia, for instance). LGBT+ people are not some scary evil force seeking to silence free speech, but instead are still fighting for an equality which was only just obtained legally and has never been there socially.

I politely make my point and you are unable to see it. Please explain how I contradicted myself or backed down but your comments are an attempt to try and gaslight which is negative to be honest.
To raise awareness that other important topics exist and to pin just one for such a long period of time is as simple as I can put it across to you @GoodBoyKaru , if you are unable to see this I can only believe you are affected by this topic and must somehow be blinded to the logic in my comments? If this is somehow affecting you then please understand my comments aren't intended to do this only to highlight something which is very strange to do in highlighting or pinning only one of many important subjects (apologies if I repeat myself but I am trying to explain to you my point in various ways)
Where did you contradict yourself?
"What would you pin instead?"
"Things that are currently relevant, otherwise it becomes a cluster of pinned posts."
"I'd argue representation is still currently relevant, maybe even more so than when the post was made"
"Representation or relevancy was not mentioned in my argument"
Also, because there are other important topics in all of humankind one topic shouldn't be pinned? I'm sure if there was a heartfelt, long post titled "Dear Behaviour... (The War)" detailing how Dead By Daylight brought peace and happiness to someone because they were both war veterans, or "Dead Behaviour... (Deafness)" where someone goes into great depth about how releasing a deaf survivor alongside various accessibility improvements, they would both be pinned as well.
At this point just dismiss the thread, because you've been told several times this thread isn't been de pinned for a while by a moderator, who's only superceded AFAIK by Mandy, who's also commented on this thread nothing but positivity for it. Unfortunately, it's here to stay.
Finally, as David King is a character within DBD, this is a topic relevant to the game.

OMG 😂 do we even play same game? I guess not.
For those who's brains are still not calculating 😂 First step - check if an update is missing. (JOKE)
The post is about DBD survivor life. Years of nerfing, including nowhere mentioned surv basekit nerfs that shadowbuffed killer gameplay quality, about neverending "lets nerf this now", "and now we killers don't like this one". This will never end...even after avg killrate was "ballanced"(40surv:60killers 😂) and all its related changes. These infinite nerfs and decreasing or problematic game quality for survs including game code for everyone, will continue... till the game dies....either by survivors quitting or BHVR waking up and starting to think and care.
Most survs I know make these jokes for a long time already...about these little, practically unnoticable things in DBD, but who are there and make difference...and ofcourse "normal" changes that lately are chosen by repeat or random functions😂
I am surprised every comment I got, I got from completely clueless players. GG I guess😂😂 Now I see why game is where it is. When all suggested changes are taken from this forum 😂😂😂 and not analysed
p.s. if u believe BHVR informs us about every change in the game - sorry to break it to u, but NO 🥲 Nor they care about game in general. They shifted DBD from "hell playing Killer" to "hell playing surv" in one moment. EZ 🤣 its fixed
Ok..now I go eat my shnicel. Byeeee

New DH is an objective nerf from current DH, but it's still a huge un-nerf from the original PTB version we had a week ago.
However it is still an objective nerf (and if you just hit someone as soon as they're unhooked they still don't have their DH), and will help immensely in either shifting the focus away from DH or helping to secure earlier downs and thus being able to build pressure quicker.
Not having to go through 3 health states for the first chase on everyone will be very welcome (to me, anyway), because that means they're either going to have to eat through their resources quicker or let me start building hook momentum quicker (or move to another exhaustion perk entirely, which is still a win)
-
@m4x1m_000 said:
What will these survivors do when its nerfed
Still run DH, because
a) rn on live servers I barely see if DH was used more than 3 times from 1 survivor, so in average matches 2 guaranteed activates will be enough
b) it is guaranteed that you will have DH activated in your second and third chases, you don’t need to earn it
c) DH in pallet/bloodlust is gone once you hit DH are still a thing
DH “nerf” just made it mid- and endgame perk, not antitunnel. Nothing changed in terms of counterplay: hit in basekit BT and pray there’s no DS. Killers who play fair will suffer the most, because after 4 fresh hooks they just activated 4 DHs for themselves.
DH “nerf” just made it mid- and endgame perk, not antitunnel.
Instead of an early, mid, and endgame perk, therefore making it an objective nerf (and Sprint Burst is better)

Her bug is the audio of her phasewalking. It's supposed to be directional but it's currently not. That's it.
And considering how these forums harked the nerf to make the audio directional as the end of Spirit forever, it being gone is a slight inconvenience
-
that dwight looks like he sniffed glue in primary school
-
Boons apply to a limited range, have an audio que when nearby, and (except current COH, though this will change in 6.7.0), are relatively weak perks due to being situational at best.
Hexes are mapwide, have a much smaller audio que (crackling of a hex totem is much quieter and shorter range than the chimes of a boon totem), are much quicker to snuff than hexes are to cleanse/bless, and generally the effects are stronger (though again, there are exceptions to this rule like Lullaby or Ruin)

I mean you contradicted yourself in your very own argument so idk if you have tbh
It feels like you just came onto a positive thread to be negative because you personally didn't like that it was still pinned tried to make an excuse when you were called out on it, and now you're backing down because your arguments contradicted themselves.
-
I'd argue that removing the ability for all 4 survivors to heal themselves whenever they want using a single perk slot, and instead forcing other survivors to take themselves away from their primary objective to run across the map to heal another survivor in a potentially bad spot of the map a buff and not a nerf, and limiting DH to 2 uses per survivor per match is also a pretty hefty nerf, but what do I know

Things that are currently relevant, otherwise it becomes a cluster of pinned posts.
Many things are relevant yet this has been pinned for over a year, that does not make it current and leads to questions why BHVR has pinned this for what is almost a year.
My comments aren't an attack on what this is about, more about why would a company pin something relevant but something so specific when there are so many other relevant subjects... it draws questions... why... which can lead to negative conclusions which isn't positive towards the original post.
The cynic in me feels it will be unpinned just after a year after patting themselves on the back about what a good company they are
I'd argue that given the state of media and the world as a whole currently, representation is more important and relevant now than it was a year ago, and subsequently it deserves to remain pinned.

Bully and Bully Squad are 2 very different things, which I think is where the majority of issues in this thread lie. Those games were undoubtedly not a bully squad, and some of OP's issues lie more to do with the game itself than the players, however at the same time it takes more effort to type something rude in endgame chat than it does to just move on and a lot of the time if you're just using the endgame chat to be mean or spiteful then you need to learn to stop holding grudges over a video game for more than 2 minutes.

I'd argue that this is a problem with gen slowdown and speed up perks being far too strong in comparison to other perks (except maybe current DH or SB), and not with the fact that perks can be countered by other perks. Because that's the risk you take with running perks, they can be countered by other things (which is why I wish Ruin wasn't nerfed as hard as it was- you had the risk of it being seen instantly or the survivors using Totem perks, vs the reward of really good passive regression allowing you to chase more).
Running chase oriented aura perks encourages aura blocking perks, which then encourages more slowdown perks, which then encourages more gen-speed perks, which then affords you the ability to return to chase-based aura perks, except for the fact that the slowdown and the speed up perks are far too strong in comparison. There's no reason to return, because you're only going to have gens smashed anyway.
This all comes down to an issue in the core gameplay of DBD, and aura blocking perks are simply a symptom of a larger, fundamental issue.

I'd argue the heal speeds feel so slow because the last time they were touched was (I believe October) 2018, and they were increased from 12 seconds to 16 seconds (+4 seconds). Now, about 4 and a half years later, they're being increased from 16 seconds to 24 seconds (+8 seconds, an increase of 50%, and twice as much as they were increased by last time).
It's not that we're used to insane, 4 second heals. It's that 24 seconds, especially in DBD, is a long ass time.
