I only play to have fun which, truth be told, is getting harder with every update.

Yeah, the killer gets a notification of where everyone is and its not hard to narrow down which bubble is who. So if we're taking shite players into account, then this game is perfect and nothing needs changed.
Oh no, it was just that your comment remind me of that recent match.
I apologize.

I gave up on this game as a horror game. Its shifted to be campy, easy going and lighthearted especially with the changes they make every major patch. I'm jumpin over to support Evil Dead as soon as it releases in hopes their vision has some integrity. At least in Evil dead when something out of a cartoon happens it'll fit with the overall theme of the films. This game though, you have some of the most serious and Iconic characters in horror movie history being treated like jokes by the games design. That mockery of a resident evil boss was proof enough.
And funny enough, those horror icons are what truly contributed to the horror aesthetic, which the game sadly now lacks. In my honest opinion, during DBD's golden age of spookiness (2017) Freddy and Michael were easily the scariest killers. Combine the map's visuals and fog, which were way better in the past, with the uniqueness of those two killers and you had the perfect set for horror.
Now, the map's all look worse, the fog is basically gone. Freddy lost everything that made him unique, including his creepy factor. Michael still plays the same, but so many things changed around him that it is hard to find the same enjoyment. And all of this without mentioning Trickster and weird cosmetics.
Yes, it is obvious that the game will never be as scary as it was when you first started playing. However, there is a very clear difference between having a horror theme on a survival horror game, and not having one at all.

Making good plays as Old Freddy was what truly made me happy. Also, running some unique builds on him was a fun experience by itself, especially "all-seeing Freddy".
Hey there, my past self from a month ago. Our opinion is still the same :)

If the survivor could do anything at all to prevent getting murdered, I might agree. As it is, they're ######### the moment the gens are done.

I give it a year before they have to change the rating down to Teen from MA to accompany the campiness of the game.
I hope you didn't just jinx it...

That was the day I truly got bvhrd. And I hate to even think about it.

How about reverting Remember Me back to its OG version before changing this?

It's regarded as 'scummy' because Survivor Mains are attempting to use peer pressure and insults to guide the actions of their opponent; Killers.
It's basically 'You don't want to be a bad/scummy/scrubby Killer! Don't: Slug, Camp, Tunnel, Use <x> Killer, use <x> perks, etc.'
It's a pressure tactic they do to try making easier matches by forcing Killers to play sub-optimally by banning anything effective under 'bad Killers do that!'
I don't think so. Yes, there are some boring survivors out there who want killers to be held completely helpless, just like there are some boring killers out there who want survivors to be held completely helpless, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
I think tunneling is a genuinely unfun strategy, for both sides. A killer should only tunnel if there is a nothing else he can do, if that is the best play or maybe the only possible play in the moment. That is fine.
Tunneling because you can, because you want to tunnel is just...boring.
-
Because it is not nice. That strategy is not regarded as scummy for nothing.

BVHR's flawed logic that we all know and hate.

I think Bhvr should take a page from you.
I like gimmick addons and that's what I feel as iridescents should do! But, now we get...do this get exposed for a really short time. Why can't we have two red addons that are strong and gimmicky instead of "boop, you're exposed"
Don't get me wrong, exposed is strong, but I feel as it's over played. I'd love transformative addons.
Thank you, my friend. I did my best to come up with a good power and good add-ons for Freddy, and I am happy to see that people liked it.
And I definitely agree with you on that one. Exposed might be nice, but it is way overused.

Definitely more balanced since you manually have to put them to sleep and wait 5 - 7 seconds before you could hit them
Plus a survivor could sprint burst away haha
That is true :) . You can always Sprint Burst away if necessary. Or you can be close to a pallet, that also works.
And yes, that effect is not being given to you for free. As you've said, the killer has to manually put the survivor to sleep, so you are working for it.
-
Yeah, sure. Especially if my job allowed me to make one change or two.

God the red paint brush quote is so creepy.
But, does the hindered effect replace the incapacitated status effect or does it get tacked on? It seems pretty clear in the description alone, but I'd like the author's input haha
That quote is from the Remake's alternate ending, and definitely one of my favorites!
And nope, it would not replace the Incapacitated effect. A Survivor has to run when the Transition begins, since he cannot commit to the generator.
But when he tries to run... Surprise!
I believe it would be a powerful add-on, considering its effects. But then again, we're talking about an Ultra Rare here.

An incapacitated effect for the sleep transition would be perfect!
Maybe some fun gimmicks as well just to mix it up a bit. I thought snares and pallets were fun
Precisely. That status effect alone fixes one of his main weaknesses.
As for some gimmicks, I had them in mind when creating my idea for a Freddy rework, and tried to apply them to the Ultra Rare add-ons:
Red Paint Brush:
-Tremendously decreases The Nightmare's Terror Radius.
-Tremendously reduces Dream Transition time.
Time to fall asleep is reduced by 2 seconds.
-Survivors suffer from a Hindered penalty during the Dream Transition
“Don’t be afraid. I can make it the way it was... Just the way you liked it” -Freddy Krueger
Black Box:
-Broken pallets are replaced by Dream Pallets
-Non-sleeping survivors cannot see or interact with Dream Pallets
“I can sleep… I just don’t want to” -Dean Russell
Red Paint Brush has a small nod to Snares, and Black Box...well, Black Box is basically Dream Pallets that you don't manually place.
-
Yes.

Gonna be completely honest. I don't care if he even was bottom tier, he was a lot fun to play against him. He just needed a buff and maybe some spice. That's all
Precisely. Truth be told, I think Old Freddy wasn't even a low tier killer to begin with, if played right. But, despite his weaknesses, he was extremely fun. And that is what matters the most.
I think he only needed 2 buffs: patch 1.8.1 reverted and the modern-day Incapacitated status effect or something similar to it during the Transition. Dream Projection is a fun and interesting mechanic but he could have lived without it if necessary.
That was all he needed. Never a full rework.
-
Old Freddy and Old Hillbilly.
It is pretty obvious why I can't play them.
-
Even after his nerf, I believe he still is an A Tier killer, he is just in the bottom of said Tier now.
However, that is definitely not the issue. The problem, as most people here have pointed out, is that he is just a boring and uninteresting killer who lost almost everything that made him fun and unique, with the sole exception being Dream Projection because that is a nice addition.
Freddy desperately needs a change, specifically his on-release power (which is not exactly the same "Old Freddy" that most people know) back with a few improvements. Keeping this new and boring version of him is not only unhealthy for the game, but also extremely unfair to Old Freddy mains out there.
I like how threads like this one create awareness for his problems, and I sincerely hope the devs will eventually listen.
Thank you for creating this thread. And perhaps one day, we will get our killer back.

I use it on a few killers would have thought it would show mending. Not sure why it doesn't but snap out of it makes no sense. I need to brush up on the wiki for sure.
Snap Out of It was once considered a healing action. Therefore every "healing" perk, such as A Nurse's Calling, worked with it.

Well, I do mention him most of the time, because he was my all-time favorite killer, but I am not sure if it is enough to be labeled as "series".

Oh, this sounds really nice!
I am sure the final result will be as amazing as it sounds.
-
That is a very interesting idea, not gonna lie!
-
Yeah, but it would be fun.
-
It wouldn't work right now, but if said mode was to be implemented my dream duo would be Old Freddy and a good Nurse.
Freddy could equip Class Photo and Paint Thinner and just run across the map putting everyone to sleep, while Nurse would be responsible for most of the chases and hooks.
Outside of a chase, survivors would have to deal with the Dream World's massive slowdown, which could be increased with some add-ons and perks. And when they did get into a chase, it would barely last sine it is against Nurse.
I would love to give this a try!

This has actually happened with me once or twice. I presume it is a glitch.
-
Thanks!
-
In my opinion, Nurse is a necessary evil.
She might have been made to counter the sheer amount of overpowered things survivors had in the past.
But the thing, they still have the advantage when it comes to the absolute highest level of play, and there must be a killer who can deal with that.
If Nurse fits this role, leave her be.

From what I've played of snare Freddy, they seemed to be working, but I'll ask @GeneralV.
And yeah, at least Freddy's add-on's wouldn't ######### him over like Hag, Myers, or Blight.
I think they are working, but to be honest I can't know for sure because I never play with Snares.
I think they are boring.

@Gwinty said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/265834/dbd-isnt-scary-anymore
I think this is not true at a general level.
Horror comes from your immersion into the game. You can play Outlast as a running game or Silent Hill as a speed run and it will loose all of its feeling. Same for DbD: If you play it to bully a Killer or something like that, it will loose its horror feeling.
Bright maps are not the problem. Bright places can be scary too as they appeal to a different kind of horror. For me those maps, especialy Tompson House and Raccoon City are a huge step up in the horror aspect. Just using darkness and fog is lazy horror the same kind they do in movies where everything is a jump scare.
Darkness has its place but just because it is bright does not mean it is less scary. Most of it comes from immersion.
If it comes from your immersion, the game could at least provide you the resources. And currently, it doesn't do that anymore.

Old freddy was weak but fun!
And when you want for the game to be à fun game to play and chill, you sometimes gotta be à bit meaner :(
Nope, you are wrong. You can hate a specific character as much as you want to, but NEVER call out their players.
This is just plain rude.
-
Not as long as they used to be. I would say 2-3 hours, or maybe less.

How about we make Self-Care meta again? 👀

Buff - Myers. Only slightly, though. I would just give him his multi-stalk back.
Nerf - Spirit. Give her at least some counterplay.
And rework Freddy! This is more important than any buffs or nerfs!

Playing any horror game it loses all is fear factor after playing it enough. My first several DBD games I remember playing it was really scary then after a month just wasn't scary at all any more.
Not just DBD many other horror franchise have the same problem Dead Space probably best example first game was terrifying cause it was new. Second game also great, but a little predictable. Third game really notice it being more action than horror since since everyone knows what to expect so can't get that same fear factor first 2 had.
Like I said after some time the game won't be scary as it was when you started playing, but there is a very clear difference between having a creepy and eerie aesthetic and not having it at all.

That I understand. Dead Dawg is unironically one of my favourite survivor maps, but I get why killers and fellow survivors hate it. It's like me and PH, I just always get bad or creative ones these days and they're pretty fun.
And that is, unironically, the map which I hate most. But then again, this is very subjective.
And you are getting PH in your trials? That is nice, haven't seen one in ages.
-
@MadLordJack said:
On the one hand, it is just Lightborn, but on the other hand there's more than a few stun/blind challenges so that's probably why a lot of people are DCing.
Well, I have no idea if that was the reason why those survivors decided to DC from my trials, but by the Entity I am glad they did.
It was Dead Dawg Saloon, so I didn't want to stay there.
