You don't understand the meaning of competitive. This is a PvP game, where people face each other and battle it out for a victory condition that results in the other side loses.
PvP games are by definition competitive. It has nothing to do with being an eSports. It has nothing to do with being balanced or not.
This is something people like to throw around to discredited that this game is competitive to a point. Just because someone says its competitive doesn't mean they mean on a esports level. In my opinion the biggest problem with losing sometime is that it want even close to a fair match right off the bat. I play huntress on console and getting put on an indoor map with a team that's clearly better than me is a hard loss to take because I qd up for a game waited 10 minutes and got put into a losing situation before I've even moved my character.

Definitely DS... you can play around it, but it requires slugging which is no fun for survivors. That said, as a killer, I have no reason to avoid a survivor unless they're literally the only one on death hook.
Since it's a 1 time use perk anyway what would you do? Slug everyone to play around it? No... that's just silly. It's also way easier to play around everyone having dead hard anyway.
You can't play around dh for distance. There is literally no hard or soft counter for dh for distance. When killers complain about dh is for distance its never for the I frame because it does have counter play dh for distance doesn't.

And add skillchecks to it when they try to reflip the switch
They need to add skill checks to more stuff or something I hate the hold one button mechanic that survivors have it tends to make the game boring after a minute.
-
@cantelope said:
If no one is holding the switch it drops to a capped 80/85. That way it can't be abused, it's not a millisecond but is still fast enough that you can do last minute saves.
I was thinking the same think a decay on the gate to like 75% max that way they can still have progress but not just be able to run around with 0 risk of been hooked or bw going off.

Kindred is also amazing

I would argue that Pinhead's box isn't a side objective really, it is a main objective.
A side objective usually means it is optional and is not necessary for the round, similar to boons, but things like Pinhead's box or Pig's traps are basically new main objectives added.
You can finish the game with out touching the box once will it be harder absolutely but if you do the box its easier.
-
I play exclusively solo (99%) and do have a problem sure do some of my teammates suck yeah but I'm sure I've also been that guy. I almost always run kindred its so much info and then windows helps to know what's still up and hasn't been used. Survivors have the tools to play solo they just prefer the super meta dh ub ds type builds.

A secondary objective does not need to benefit the side doing it at all. That just oozes main bias.
A meaningful secondary objective is also something that must be done (preferably by multiple people) or suffer the consequences.
Pinhead box comes to mind :)

Then by all means just keep complaining and refuse to accept any sort of answer to your problem while also not trying to find a solution yourself. You do you, bro.
The problem is I've tried your suggestions and run into the same cycle anyway so its obvious not just a don't do this and it will be better problem it goes deeper into gameplay,the way mmr works and so on.

Ok, so use whatever random build you want and stick with it. You'll eventually even out in your mmr to be at a range where it's not a struggle fest but also not stupidly easy. That's how mmr works
Honestly I get super sweat fest like 7 games in a row and then like 2 non sweat fest then back to the sweat no matter what builds im running.
-
@Fuzzels said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2613153#Comment_2613153
So keep losing til your at the lowest of low mmr and you won't have that problem
But then I end up against babys and 4k at 4 gens and thats ok the first 2-3 times but then it's not satisfying at all of course I 4k they didn't even know how to drop pallets properly.
-
@Fuzzels said:
So don't? You don't have to win every game either. Just use what killers and builds you have fun using and just chill my dude. No ones telling you or forcing you to use specific builds
The problem is if you don't run meta on the killer side gens just go by so fast its like 4 minute games. That's without gen rush stuff like bnp and prove thyself. Its just not a fun experience at all.
-
As soon as it start with im a blank main and..... I'm like ok opposite.

Those killers weren't viable anyways. If anything, adding Plague to meta was a raw improvement to killer diversity.
Expect spirit feel out of the meta it was a 1 for 1 trade and plague will eventually get the deathslinger treatment.

@D3spair said:

Same experience with Doctor, Clown and Trapper. Switching to Plague does not mean Legion's problem is magically solved.
The problem is it shrinks a already small killer pool to even smaller because CoH allows them to speed up the game even more on there side while removing snowball potential at the same time.
-
Not really unless I'm playing nurse(learning) or running decent killer full meta. Gens just fly and pallets fall. Any time I try to mess around and try non meta my matches last like 4 minutes with like 2 hooks.
I think prove thyself needs to be kill switched there's no reason for the survivors to make gens go any faster than they already do and then there's toolboxes which are ever thanks to CoH.
-
I as a solo player enjoy them they give me incentive to switch up my game play and try different things...... oh wait I see what the problem is now.

There's always guides on youtube, or self recording and watching your own mistakes to learn from them
Which would be fine if you have already decided to invest your time and its a game you know you want to play. If your new and trying to decided if you want to play and then you find out you need to spend x about out side of the game just to play at an entry level its going to turn off alot of people.

Ok, learn from those difficult matches. Become a better killer player and learn to play around the better survivors. I can understand what you're saying about wanting a good experience when you first start, but like I originally had said, rewarding bad plays is not a good way to create a skillful player and will only condition you to continue making those bad plays
I understand what your saying but dbd been an asymmetrical game makes the it a different situation. In a team game if you get put in a match with people better than you as a new player you can learn for what your teammates and opponents are doing because there's an obvious cause and effect.
Now as a survivor you can see what your teammates are doing that work and you have a understand of why it works because you tried something similar and it didn't work.
The killer is all by there self playing a different game then there opponents in a way and been the only one playing this "game" the cause and effects aren't as obvious. You can't just learn from your mistakes as a new killer because you don't have another killer compare yourself to.
-
@Fuzzels said:

Following up on this,
Assume a new player plays at a match made skill of 5/10. Being new they are likely playing at a skill of closer to 2/10. So they will lose, and drop down, and be put into matches made of 2/10 players. As they learn more, they will get more skill and work themselves up to 5/10. So in those matches of 2/10, they will dominate and slowly be out into better survivors matches. So they will play at 5/10 against 5/10. And then as they learn more and more, they increase their skill to 7/10. So they start to dominate those games at 5/10, and start playing people at 7/10. This will continue on until they've reached their natural skill cap as a player overall, and stagnate at whatever skill level they should be at. It's the same concept as any game using a MMR system. Take League Of Legends as an example, it works the exact same way. Bad players get pushed to low ranks while good players carry themselves to higher ranks.
The problem is that the one thing dbd had going for it over other asymmetrical games was a good beginning killer experience. You came in and had fun as a killer you don't get bullied and on the other side the survivors have fun because its scary and all that stuff we jaded players don't get anymore. But now with the fresh mmr been pretty close to the top and the way a good survivor can lose mmr because of teammates you have the possibility of good survivors playing against 30 hour killers and now you end up with a killer experience like all the other games.
This mmr system is doesn't work correctly I have to lose 7-10 in a row(0-1k) to end up playing 1-2 matches against baby survivors. There is a few good matches in there were it feels even but most of my matches are just way out of my league one way or another.

I know this is cheating, but the answer is "mostly".
Something like Dead Hard is a totally reasonable thing to be in the game, and I think the focus should instead be on why adding some time to a chase is so damn punishing for the Killer. Action speeds, lack of objectives, strength of tiles... there are many things that could maybe be tweaked before Dead Hard is looked at.
That being said; DH to dodge a hit is, in my opinion, fine, and if I were to tweak it, I'd suggest a very brief cooldown after you use it where you can't vault or drop pallets- so DH for distance needs to be timed properly instead of being a brainless "press E to win" situation.
K think giving it a 1-2 second cooldwon before action will still make it used as intended but the bs dh for distance is no mote

If you want to intentionally lose the game to get your Speed Boost, because you are not able to play Loops without 4% extra Movement-Speed, go ahead.
It is still vastly different from playing Loops greedy because you have DH.
Its really not your just using a perk to save resources and extend the chase for x amounf of seconds which you wouldn't of been able to do without it. On top of that when its used like this there is literally 0 counter play on the killers side you can't bait or mind game a dh for distance which makes it unfair. Now noed is different because it has a counter by doing bones during the match or when it pops
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2591137#Comment_2591137
I mean, there is a difference between thinking "Ok, I have DH, so I can get one more loop." and "Oh boy, I still have NOED, I will totally get a 4K if I overcommit to this guy anyway"...
But that's just playing around the perk knowing I got insta down and a 4% speed boost allows me to focus one person knowing I can still apply pressure once the gens are done.
Now that been said dh can also be used as oh no I feel for the killers mind game but ill dh to this window and reset the chase.

This is ridiculous how this game has changed during the past year. I would says, the Billy nerf was the beginning of the end. IDK why, I just feel it. MMR... Survivor changed to be more "gen efficient", by doing gens literally in your face... This is used to be a horror game, but no one fears the killer. Survivors have changed. Killers need to adapt.
There is no room now for a "fun build" as a survivor you run meta. As a killer -- you need to run meta too or lose. Kinda boring.
I've seen gen rush builds in like 70% of my games as a killer and I mean real gen rush prove thyself,BnP,and tool boxes with gen speed add-ons. I already have a hard enough time trying to keep up with gens as it is but increasing the gen speed plus it seems like I'm out matched skill wise alot as well and 2 hooks later its 17k for one person the other 3 got 12kish and I made 15k. I don't get why survivors want to make the game go faster than it already does.
-
@Sonzaishinai said:
I mean that's just a case of bad teammates. Even nurse can bloodlust you if your team isn't doing gens.
Just increase your mmr so you get decent teammates.
Easilly done by escaping through the gates. Which requires teammates to do gens to open.
Hmmmmmmm, you might have a problem
I'm honestly in this situation right now. I do 3 gens got all the unhooks did a 2 minute chase and the team dies with 2 gens left. I know its an extreme case but I've had games like this and close to it yet mmr goes down and keeps going down because my teammates. Most the time

She didn't need a power she just needed a bad connection and a ######### map to win. I got to second state because my team was so interested in ######### walking around being scared of the non phasing killer. I hate this game
She's a 110 killer that isn't that hard to brake los on and brake chase and bl. As for the map its go plenty areas you should of been able hide is one of the most Emerson levels in the game. Yeah.
spend 10+ seconds chasing survivor as they hold W across the map.
spend 10+ seconds at a loop and maybe hit them.
If you hit them, spend 10+ seconds catching up to them again.
spend another 10+ at the loop.
You outplay them but they dead hard and they get away.
You spend more time catching up looping and going for the hit again.
Add in time patrolling gens, looking for survivors, hooking them, etc. etc. all the extra ######### a killer has to do that wastes time. It all just ######### adds up.
It's essentially an extra health state.
On average its 20 seconds to catch up after a hit if they run straight. But yeah it adds up fast 10 here 10 there next thing you know its a 40+ seconds chase.

Have been trying to learn Demo for the past few days, really struggling - since your 'new' killers are tied to the MMR of your 'good' killer initially, I've been getting flattened.
The problem - even after multiple games of 4 and 3 outs, I'm still facing 3-4man SWF groups, rocking legacy skins, meta perks and, of course, are inevitably BM. 'Lol EZ scrub uninstall games full' type messages.
These are obviously not people who belong at a low MMR.
And the more I'm losing, the more of them I'm seeing - not less.
Which makes me wonder...
With people smurfing down their MMR (potentially due to the DC penalty removal) to absurd degrees to absolutely stomp and abuse newcomers or people learning a new killer, at a certain point, losing games makes you more likely to face crazy low MMR smurfs, rather than people of a similar (low) skill.
I can only imagine what it must be like to play this game as a total newcomer right now.
Honestly its the mmr probably I have to lose 7-10 matches in a row tell it feels like I get a lower caliber survivor and then they seem to really suck and I 3-4k 3 matches in a row and back to the 2-3 hook games for most of my matches.
Oh and its like a 10 minute wait to just get stomped out no wonder I've been playing survivor mostly lately.

why's it not a problem how many addons/perks in the game are basically never-use tier?
devs seem to be okay with chaff existing one way or another, but to be honest 'pallet builds' were never that good and even if you had infinite spirit fury if you didn't have enduring to go with it you could still get run around for 5 gens on some maps like gideon/abattoir if the tile rng really hates you
deadzones don't matter if the game's basically over, and worse still there are deadzone-proof tiles out there
maybe you can make some magic happen with mass instadowners like bubba if they inefficiently throw every good pallet on a map like hawkins but ye, you don't need an anti-pallet build for that lol
Its a game design flaw for sure there is no reason to have 3 anit pallet perks equipped and pallets still be super effective because gens can go by so fast. It just sucks that gen perks have to take up half your build for your average killer.

Anti Pallet works. It's not a braindead build and you still need to know how to run it. Anti Pallet build is not super strong, it isn't a magic bullet. But it cuts down chase time significantly if you know what you're doing. If you don't.... you end up with 2 hooks over 15 gens.
6 hooks in 15 gens but whats the point of dedicating 3 perks to stop something if you still have to play around it. Now when spirit fury was up I could get hit other wise trying to brute force pattels out the way doesn't work and its kind of the point of the build.

I'm 12-hooking left and right while playing around with new add-ons and perks and stuff.
Really all I've seen is stick to gens at all costs 99 the gate and then make boom boom noises to try and get free points because we all getting like 15k at the end of the match.

There is a lot of power creep happening on the killer side, they shouldn't be any shame in making new strong perks for survivors too. You can't possibly nerf survivor meta because they are so situational and already weak, especially compared to killer meta that is so oppressive.
Survivors have been op for a long time and just because you nerf something that was op doesn't make it useless. On top of that most killers can't keep up with a decent team.
