  • YES you can. at the main screen, NOT when you are playing as a survivor or a killer, you can enter settings and turn crossplay on and off. it's a check mark you can add or remove. I can't remember the specific wording but it IS there and you have been told by many it is optional, not a beta and you still don't believe? if you can't follow the instructions I gave you here and others have said before then no one can help you and you will be stuck with this "BETA" for the rest of your dbd playing days.

Seems like people have had it done for weeks or are still stuck trying to finish it. Personally, I hit Rift Level 70 the day Tome 4 launched and honestly I thought there should've been more levels because I got everything done with weeks to spare. But other people seem to think the Rift is a daunting task and there's not enough time even if they do all the Tome challenges and everything.

    What's with the huge disparity?

as others have said it is definitely how much you play. but it is also how many challenges there are. Tome 4 had less challenges than tomes 2 and 3 and is on par with tome 1. by this distribution in tome 4 there was a lot more playing that was required to get to tier 70. I've seen people hit tier 70 before the second level of the tome is even open. so yea it's all about how much you play, how well you play etc.

I made the switch to pc gaming after playing on Xbox for years. But now that crossplay is a thing it feels like everyone is just blocked off from everyone else. I can't chat with console players in lobby's, I can't add them, I can't report their personal profiles... And the lack of pc players on this game makes it incredibly baren and boring. It feels like I'm just chilling with a wall between me and my teamates. I'm just looking forward to turning it off after beta at this point.

why not turn it off now? you have that option in the main menu.

I am so god damn sick of every friggin loop being a COMPLETE waste of Plague’s time because it takes FOREVER to get survivors to drop the ######### pallet, thus making EVERY ######### loop a complete waste of Plague’s time if the survivors know what they’re doing.

How did the devs NOT see this as a problem?!

Plague’s instadown doesn’t mean anything if it takes 3 gen repairs worth of chase time to get close to ANYBODY.

I've seen people facing red ranks get 4K's. and both sides played well. you are obviously not making the right choices of add ons or even offerings. please go watch some high level game play and get better at the game in the mean time. I've 4k's even without using her power once!

Not understanding how I’m getting loaded into match after match after match and at least one, sometimes two, people are disconnecting at the beginning. I know it’s happened to my cousin a few times on his PlayStation and PC, the game just crashes. I’m on XBOX and I haven’t disconnected yet, and I haven’t noticed the killers disconnecting either!

It is because many players feel that they can go ahead and disconnect because they do not like what they find when they load in. Hex Totem popped within the first minute of the game? DC!, Don't like the killer or the map? DC!, Get downed first before any gens done? DC! it doesn't matter if it's killer or survivor both sides do it and it's rampant now. Are there some legit disconnects in this? YES there is! guess what.... people have DC'd enough that the legit disconnects suffer because of the amount of DC's that happen. I can't say why the dc's happened to the games you were in but it's really a bad thing going on out there. BAD.

“1) people will change their names, fortnite is not even on steam thus those names won't be seen as you have them, how ever I don't see epic even taking any sort of action due to their chinese controlling parent company.”

Fortnite was just an arbitrary name I pulled from the air. My point was that they could be playing other games with a broader age range and broader demographic.

and that is why i said that they can and will change their names for various reasons, including different games. or they are just jerks.

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

Never before cross play on PS4 had I seen so many profile names ranging from inappropriate to downright appalling and hateful.

I’m just guessing it’s PC via logical deduction because PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo have pretty thorough profanity filters, and a user has to get very creative and abstract in order to bypass those respective profanity filter. And even then they’re usually easy to report (on PS4 for PS4 profiles at least).

Why does steam (I’m guessing Steam) allow free reign on all the vile language known to man to be used for a publicly displayed profile name?!

the name is through steam, Behavior does not police what is Valve's domain. how ever unlike what other people say behavior does take action on end game chat etc. you just have to report that if you can see it.

That is incorrect. if you are telling them they were toxic or cheating in game they ASK you for any and all proof you have so they can review it. before dedicated servers they had to get that because they had no data what so ever. With dedicated servers they have access to more information and still ask for video because the more they have to go by the better chance of them making a determination. End Game chat is available to them now and they can act without video proof. I have been told many times I don't need to submit a second report (I do) with screen shots as they have access to it. I have been told by peanits and mclean directly they take action (on their streams) and I got an email from someone telling me that action on my issue has been taken though not what action etc. (that was the only time i got that)

Valve doesn't seem to care about this. I don't think I've ever heard of someone being forced to change their steam name.

you are incorrect, I have actaully seen people that have had to change their names due to reports to Valve. I have had many times reported names to valve and they have told me they took action but would not divulge what action (as it is private between the person and valve).

That example is at the lighter end of the spectrum of what I’m talking about, and probably wouldn’t take issue with it myself (more out of being naive by not even thinking about it being a black character that’s also a black Smith).

But I’m talking about things like profile names like “I like killing (insert offensive name for black people)” or “suck my big (you know what)” Just blatantly horrible inappropriate things.

yea report those people to Steam. write their names down and do a steam search for them and then report them.

That name isn’t exclusive to DBD. If I’m seeing it while playing DBD, 12 yr olds are seeing it if that same player goes and plays fortnite as an example.

    1) people will change their names, fortnite is not even on steam thus those names won't be seen as you have them, how ever I don't see epic even taking any sort of action due to their chinese controlling parent company.

How is this ok to do? @peanits or another dev, can you say if this is bannable or not? It's definitely a pretty crappy thing to do. I am mostly a killer main now, and I could never be this trashy and ruin a game for someone.

    @bubbabrotha said:

Its not technically bannable, as the game did end. However, if that was the last survivor remaining, then yes it is bannable.

it IS banable because you took it from being a short time to do something (like rev a chain saw, de-cloak) to something where you harassed them and that is a banable offense. the DEVS have all said this is the case and it is reportable. but you have to be the one that it happened to or in the match it happened.

    @Gay Myers (Luzi) said:

It depends on when it started. If this was throughout the whole game pretty much (they do say it was the entire game) then yes, it is, as the blocked survivor isn't capable of escaping the situation and doing anything. It'd be the same if it was another survivor blocking them in a corner.

If the EGC started, the timer runs out, so that'd be fine. That is holding the game hostage and not bodyblocking.

actually it still isn't ok either way and it is body blocking, but since egc will kill the survivor it can't be holding the game hostage. but it is also harassment at the same time.

Blood dept and obsessive were the time consuming ones, all the other challenges took 1-2 games to complete. Yeayea maybe there were few more that took time, but i dont think there were. With these 2 i kinda almost gave up. For the obsessive use nemesis, gets you 4 done if you get 4k and play it smart and know how to use this perk

the one of kill 10 obsessions i finished in 6 matches. popped nemisis and an ebony mori. got two matches with 3 kills each. the worst were the 3 iri devout and the 4 gold emblems in one match.

  • @APoipleTurtle said:

Is it? Seems more like the majority of players DC because they either got angry with an in-game situation (such as getting caught first, playing against a certain killer/survivor, or getting a certain map) or because they had game/internet issues (such as poor latency or a power outage).

You're already supposed to lose 2 pips when you DC, unless they changed something about that for some reason. I guess I'm not sure these days, I don't disconnect very often nor do I really care about pips/rank anymore.

Of course remember that some players may consider exploiting such a simple and quick de-pip system in order to de-rank to play against less experienced players (likely with the intent to bully them).

I don't think expanding upon anything like this will be necessary or healthy for the game. Instead it would be far better if the timed matchmaking ban penalties were brought back, preferably in a way where they cannot be unfairly given to other players who did not DC from a match.

it's only one now. was 4 then 2 now 1. even with 4 it is a reward not a punishment for people.

But there's my point. You had to slog through 6 tiers to get to tier 60 after the challenges, and that's still ten tiers left of either MORE slogging or paying for them.

OK, fair enough. The Tome SHOULDN'T do the whole thing for free, and I'm glad it doesn't because then it's too easy. The problem is there isn't enough outside of the challenges to get you even close to 70. Just now hit 61 which means I need 90 Frags total to finish, and that's likely 100 games I'd need to play in two days. It's just far too much.

And yes, I too would normally wait until around now to consider paying for it like you did, but I liked a lot of the cosmetics up for grabs in this Tome so I unlocked it pretty early on.

One weekend to alleviate the slog by 50%. Not major enough for them to lose money, but just enough to make the grind a little quicker. There's plenty of other good suggestions in this thread alone, let alone elsewhere, but a simple weekend would be good enough for me.

I understand and agree that this tome didn't do what the last two did, getting to 63ish is better than 53-60. I don't know why they changed it back to what it was like in tome 1. anyways it is what it is :)

I've edited the post to make it a bit more clear.

What i meant is that perks like dying light and thana are pretty weak right now.But in order to buff them you wouöd have to make perks like these non-stackable because otherwise they would be too overwhelming.

This way we could have different slowdown perks for different playstyles.

(E.g thana for playstyles that focus on spreading the damage or dying light for killers that are able to get hooks pretty fast)

I do understand that, but i'm also talking if we do that for those lets do it for others as well... notice that I brought in self care as well as the issue of DS / unbreakable. I'm for it but i'm for it without neglecting the other perks too.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

I'm talking about Thanatophobia and Dying Light.

Both of these are pretty underwhelming perks that don't really do that much and really need buffs to make them better.

The problem however is that if you stack them and buff them too much then they could get waaay too overwhelming.

So my question is why can't we make slowdown perks not stackable in order to make them decent but not too strong?

very well lets also make survivor perks not stackable. DS and unbreakable/no mither can not work together. if one is active, the other can't be. make things even on both sides... selfcare buff but can't stack with botany knowledge.... what else can we buff but make it incompatible with other perks too?

So this is the second time I've completed a Tome while having a pretty time-consuming job, the previous one being the very first Tome to be released in DbD.

It's also the second time I've only made it to tier 60 out of 70 in the Rift Pass even after completing all challenges in the Tome.

So how is it we're on Tome 5, but the Fragments/XP you earn is still no different?

By now, I was hoping there would have been a small change to the amount, or at least a few opportunities to snag bonus shards. But nope. Exactly the same as T1, maybe even harder in this one.

Now true, I don't have to pay for it, nobody's forcing me. And yeah, the devs are aiming to make a profit somehow, I get that. But now if I want to make it to 70, I either have to grind the absolute hell out of the game for single Frags in less than three days (and even then I'm not sure I'd make it in time), or pay for tiers, neither of which are particularly enticing choices.

Obviously this is on purpose so if we really want to complete it, we'd have to pay for more Auric Cells, which means more money for them even after you've payed for the Premium track. But as a long-time fan of this weird whacky game, it's a little disheartening to see such a disappointing practice in play.

There are much more pressing issues in the game than this, and I know I've already posted about this in the past so I won't mention it again after today. But when something like this happens twice for one player, it's likely happened twice for many of you. I think I speak for most DbD players, especially those of us who don't have the time to grind our butts off, when I ask:

Would one, and I mean just ONE, double Frags/XP weekend really be that much of a pain?

    (Proof of subject matter below:)

You're lucky I finished the complete tome and i only got to tier 55. the tomes are NOT supposed to give you the whole rift what so ever, and never have. You will still have to put in some extra work and games to get to 70 and always have. tome 4 though has lost many rift fragments for what ever reason (It felt short to me before I started looking at it) in reference to tomes 2 and 3. Like I said, you're lucky! I have had to slog through 6 tiers to get to where you are myself. Just realize nothing is given for free. I don't normally buy the pass till I know I'm close to getting 70 so I don't have to buy tiers but a few things have happened this tome and i've not played as much as before. Ah well.

I am tired of people thinking that some where it was said that the TOME would give you the whole rift. What is being misconstrued is a combination of the fact the TOMES offer rift fragments to help you complete the Rift and if you buy the pass for the extra, you will get your 1000 Auric Cells back if you complete the rift. no WHERE has anyone said from Behavior that the TOME will complete the RIFT and honestly they've EVEN said it won't!

    Title.

I've seen a few content creators openly DC (or openly admitting to DC) in front of an audience, however, I haven't seen anyone say to their audience directly to start DCing though.

I know talking about content creators is a really touchy subject but this is just something that seems so irregular to me. It just seems a really bad thing to do even if you aren't promoting it because people will do what content creators do.

(obv don't name and shame k thanks)

you can report them, and then submit a ticket and link it to their VOD so they can see that this person is doing it consistently. It is only ok to use the out of match functionality if you are stuck in the geometry or the game can't end or an emergency comes up. no mater what people say.

  • @Caz2018 said:

Playing a stealthy game is perfectly fine - it's a valid strategy. However, hiding and not doing anything to progress the game is taking the game hostage and should be reported.

I've played a lot of games where me and my team have done the objectives, but got caught towards the end and the one random, who we barely saw all game turned out to be hiding in a locked, made no attempt to help rescue anyone and made their escape.

Wow really? you know exactly what they are doing? where they are at all times and what they are doing at all times... in cases like this you would have to have video of the person not playing properly and be able to show it to the devs. talk about petty?

    @MrDardon said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1661220#Comment_1661220

No, there are those Survivors who hide instead of doing gens, and that's basically called "taking the game hostage". If you manage to hide from a Killer and then do gens and then successfully hide again, ok. But we talk about People who ONLY hide and never touch a gen after a certain amount of People are dead. And that's not how you're supposed to play the game.

There is literally not one single match where the Killer found nobody while Survivors did all 5 Gens. The Survivors are supposed to outrun the Killer by being chased to buy the other Survivors time to do gens, that's why Matches with Survivors who go down fast always end with a 4 man 4-5 Gen (with an occasional Hatch Escape which in my opinion is not an escape because the Survivors didn't manage to do their only Objective), because they don't know how to distract a Killer.

I have nothing against hiding, but Survivors who only hide and never do gens deserve to be found via an Aura because as Killer, searching for 10 minutes is not fun, and then when you find them, they dc.

WOW you really don't like people playing their own way. No one takes the game hostage anymore, door opens you can't go hide there's a timer. killer finds 3 people closes hatch there's a timer. player doesn't move long enough there are crows. just because it's not your way of playing you want the killer to find them using an aura they are not granted by their OWN perks. that's not a good thing. Most times when people go and hide they don't move enough to keep crows from coming around so that will let the killer know where. There is a point that you can call it taking hostage but it would take the concerted efforts of a team to avoid the killer for that long in any map. if you are the killer and can't locate people then well that's not the survivor's fault either. you didn't bring the right perks, now do better.

  • Why is it that everything must be handed to people on a platter so they only get what they want and not have to figure out how to play without your precious meta perks. as others have said use offerings to increase your bp gain, or perks or both! it's just a game. you don't need to have only what you feel like you want in it.

I might be upset that i got tunneled but i'll get over it. now you start calling me names and other things I WILL retaliate with reports and what not. at the very least least 20 or so minutes of the 25 I spent in there, was just me walking around searching, they did a single gen and just kinda hid for the rest of the game.

Why do people do this? Do they find it fun? What's cool or funny about doing nothing and wasting 25 minutes of your own time and another person who just wants to play the game and have fun?

And then there are people who want to remove Looping from the game. The outcome would be what you described. I honestly take every Loop over a highly immersed team.

I had one game where the Survivors were so stealthy, I only found one Bill the entire game. After hooking him twice and finding him for a third time, I simply let him go, because I honestly felt bad for him being the only one who actually wanted to play the game. Nothing wrong with Stealth, but it is not much fun to play against IMO.

But my game was an exception and so was yours. It happens, but luckily its rare. And to be fair, some people simply like to play stealthy without any bad intent.

    @MrDardon said:

There should be a system where it shows Survivors Auras intermittently if they don't do Objectives for a certain amount of time. If they still don't do anything and try to outrun the phasing Aura Reading, the Aura Reading should start to be permanent. It shouldn't go away instantly after touching a gen because People could abuse that. It should work like the crows where they have to stay on Objectives for a certain amount of time for it to go away.

So your ways to play are the only ways we should play? I've litterally had matches where I was a survivor and two of the team disconnected, it was me and one other (yes both of us were claudettes) I finished the last 3 generators on my own, the other one opened the door (and was working on gens, but occasionally got caught at a gen but was able to evade. it took 15 minutes because we were playing cat and mouse with the killer. is it fun? it's definitely challenging, but I don't have to engage you to give you chase points. it's YOUR job as killer to FIND ME! now I did get found early in the game a couple times but I also was able to evade and heal up each time. I worked gen, continuously moving around to different gens and it took ages to complete. the other claud was able to open the door and get out. I then ran AROUND the map and came to the open door and got out, the killer was off at the other door looking for me (and closed the hatch mind you that I missed). The killer was amazed that I got out and when I told them what I did they even said they were AMAZED at how it ended.

You may think as a survivor or a killer that survivors are SUPPOSED to be chased, that is not true. the object of the survivors is to power the gates by the gens and escape. You as the killer are to prevent the survivors from escaping by chasing them off of gens and controlling the match environment (ruin, pop, strydor and other perks are available for you to use for this). beyond that, there are no real rules of engagement. If you tell me I have to run the killer for X minutes I'm going to tell you to stick it where the sun don't shine SIDEWAYS with a jagged metal casing around it. I also don't expect that the killers will not do X,Y, or Z because that's what is expected how ever I expect the killer to ACKNOWLEDGE their tactics just as I acknowledge mine if called out (stealth, totem killer etc).

Tunneling, Camping and even slugging are part of the damn game. I don't give a damn it happens just that it is acknowledged that those tactics are used when called out. example another match I was in a SWF (yes the dreaded SWF issue) and I brought a KEY, yes we were planning to get the "hoodini" achievement. this is because some of us didn't have it yet. So all 4 of us got in there and i got found (back before keys were so noticeable), the killer found me, hooked me and when I got off the hook he was hooking someone else, and then coming after me (ok that's not hard core tunneling but it is close enough) then after i get off the hook the third time he was right there waiting for me to be unhooked and BLAMO I was tunneled into oblivion got less than 6 K for that because I didn't have a chance to do crap. got out of the match I called him out without being mean or toxic or anything just said "dude, that tunneling!" their response? I didn't tunnel you. it was comical. another time someone actually said "yea, you got a key" I said ok fair enough, atleast you admit what you did. didn't call it wrong didn't berate the killer just want it acknowledged.

but get over yourselves if you expect ME to GIVE you chases. I don't always go in for blood points, or pips or what ever. but you know what? it's to stick it to people that believe that I have to play their way and not my way as long as my way is within the rules of the game.

This game has many problems...Many people with 1000 of hours giving good ideas to fix them... But no. The team is ignoring every idea and making more and more discussions that bring even more problems.

Why do you want this game to die Dbd Team?

Thing is everyone with these "GOOD" ideas probably are people you like or the ideas are the ones you like, but you don't like the other ideas so they aren't "GOOD" ideas. a game like this has millions of lines of code, you don't just draw the levels and characters and it works. you have to write code that says for example "Set NEA = Player 1" then you have to put in "Set Player 1 Perk 1 = Urban Evason" and then 3 others like that, then an item needs to be set, then two add on's and then the offering. that right there is 9 seperate lines of code (and yes some programming languages allow those to be put into one line, but that is actually a bad idea but you have to count each command as a line even if on the same line. now do that for 4 other people. Now add in the ranking/match making aspect. and then add in all the possible actions a character can do. then you have to add in the lines of code to define the trial zone, and how to populate it with structures etc and what windows and doors should be open....

This is literally a simplified idea of the coding and there is much much much more involved in doing so. These fixes are not easy to find where the fix is for examply you find that you have an issue with the system stopping the heal at 99.9% and people are not healed like they thought right away. where is the issue? is it in the healing routine? in the detection of full heal routine? is it in the med kit routine (brown/green medkit no add ons or other perks are exhausted after one time). where does the error happen? and perhaps the error is finally found months later to be in the stun routine causing a variable to be incrimented that shouldn't be. and YES there is an idea that you could easily have something not even affecting where the bug shows up to be the cause. (this was for a bug issue)

Now lets look at another issue, one of "what is causing people to disconnect?" oh is it the killer nodding their head, or playing the lery's or hawkins maps? or is it people that just did not like what they have to face and they just decide to leave the match. well ignoring networking or client crash issues we are left with behavioral causes, and some say if they are slugged even 1 second then they dc it's not the fact the killer downed them and ran off but their own hubris thinking their fun is more important than anyone else's. so how can the dbd dev team fix this? they can't because that's something about how the players are themselves. so depends on what your view of what the problems are in the game and the answers given in this thread won't always work either. so many things to consider.

could the rift have gotten even grindier? when i finished my challenges in the first rift i was level 65. ive finished my challenges in rift four and am only level 55.

hey you know this thread was in december 2019? and Yes things changed. there are less challenges or master challenges and it has resulted in about 5 tiers not covered by challenges over all. That's a lot of extra work, I went in expecting the tome to get me to 60-63 but it took me to 53-55 ... yea there's more of a grind.

  • MMR did not work the way they wanted so it is disabled. currently it is making matches based off of the ranking system. and if you don't get a match in a while (not told how long before it starts this) the system widens the gap between the rankings. and keeps doing so till you can get a full match.

How engaging is tapping spacebar (or a button) while moving your camera around to see what's going on from the auras exactly?

A struggle phase rework could be something as simple as having skill checks at set minimum intervals so you have the "option" of dying faster but not the nearly instant 3 attempts to unhook oneself then letting go for the spider god to take you in 5 seconds. Combine this with a penalty for disconnecting through ingame means or that task manager/alt+f4 and people would actually play the matches they queued for rather than wasting 4 people's time because their selfish desire to have a game completely on their terms wasn't met through the matchmaking gods.

I usually play hundreds of solo-queue survivor games with a very relaxed mindset and watch youtube videos at full volume while on gens or on hook because the amount of downtime in the game as survivors already... one of the reasons I don't even agree with even more gen slowdown as the single solution to all the killer woes even if I very rarely run into a 4 tool box BNP SWF with a hard on for gen rushing out the door within 5 mins. Matchmaking needs to be addressed (they've said they're working on it) but people unwilling to play a game together and abandoning constantly has to be curbed as well.

it keeps me focused on what is happening on the screen. if i didn't have to do that i'd be off in another screen. just waiting. that's how i am with cage skill checks too.

  • Autodidact does NOT affect self heals though

It's probably a protest of "this killer is boring to face" but it's not just Legion...

The sound of a phase walk, the rev of a chainsaw (Billy or Bubba), the screech of a distant blink, The Huntresses's 40m humming, the sight of them slowly falling asleep at the bottom left. Heck even the "ding ding ding" of Wraith's dinner bell can illicit the same result currently...

It not restricted to survivors either. Killers have unplugged on load in against 0 items, 0 offerings even in red ranks on me because they randomly rolled into Ormond or Haddonfield just to return in post-game lobby about "the broken game" that they're "forced" to play. Perhaps there is a terrorist organization holding AK47s to a select population to force them to continue queueing up to waste 4 other people's time.

A non abuseable DC penalty + Struggle phase rework to prevent instant suiciding couldn't come any faster.

Of course from how some forum users make it sound there should be Kotaku articles about BHVR's activated terrorist cells moving out to implement their nefarious plans of forcing people to play a game they don't enjoy if DC penalties return without exploits to ban people for 72 + hours.

"Struggle phase rework to prevent instant suiciding couldn't come any faster." people suidiciding on hook is not because they don't like struggling. I like that I have to pay attention to the screen when i'm in second stage, it adds to me enjoying the game. I am not the only one that likes this. but changing that would make it boring to even be on the hook, even i'd want a 1st hook mori with that.

Huh, first sentence you're saying im incorrect but the rest of the post saying im right :'D Get your ######### together.

When doing a challenge it doesnt count as a playtime !?

in the second part i was talking about only doing the survivor challenges gets you about 1/2 the rift shards the whole tome (levels 1-4) would give you. the killer side is the other 1/2. I never said the tome levels give you only 1/2 the shards of the whole rift which is what you had said.

You know what it’s probably cuz they did less master challenges before all 4 characters had atleast 2 master challenges per time now it was around 2 for 2 characters or something every other tome

fair, I did notice that some what but I can't say i'd have to really go look :)

I just meant I was more surprised they didn’t get to 70 with all challenges done but I got it missing 5 challenges and I don’t play that much anymore due to it not being as fun a game anymore with them ignoring the big issues over small ones nowadays 😭

I completed the tome and hit tier 55. I don't play all that much so yea it's not the same previously as before i got to 60-63 upon the final tome completion.

  • @RizeAki said:

Really? I got to 70 without even doing all the challenges yet still missing like 4-5

you can get to 70 without doing a single challenge. you can skip them but it takes 800 exp to get one rift fragment, thus 10 fragments mean 8000 exp per TIER and 10 tiers are 80,000 exp 70 tiers is 560,000 exp. you can get a total of 600 exp in any one game plus a bonus of 300 exp for your first killer match of the day and 300 for your first survivor match of the day. so without the bonus you would have to play 933.333 games and GET MAX EXP each match without the tome challenges or the bonus for first killer or survivor match. that's a lot of matches, BUT that can be done within the first level of the tome depending on how many matches you play!

  • @KaarelK said:

You only get about half of the tiers by fragments another half comes from playing the game

that is incorrect the shards from the previous tomes (not the levels of this one) would get you to about tier 60-63 depending on how many games it takes you to do the challenges. this one even with the challenge grind was about tier 55. pushing 15 tiers to pure grinding. I believe there are fewer master challenges and less lore (have not totally investigated). though your comment is correct in that 1/2 the shards to get you to the end are in survivor and the other half are in killer so you do have to do both sides otherwise you end up with a very large grind)

Exactly, they have a security of an easy escape when they are off the hook and so they throw themselves at the killer or immediately start working on a gen with the killer close to them.

Seen it happen many times over where I unhook a survivor and instead of wanted to get healed, they run towards the killer just so they can use ds.

And if the killer won't pick them up, they have unbreakable for it.

I personally would love to see it happen where if they get fully healed, work on a gen, unhook another survivor, etc, ds would just deactivate.

It was made so they won't get tunnelled of the hook and if you can do objectives, you sure aren't tunnelled.

And sure I use the perk too, but only for anti tunnel.

And even if I get tunnelled, I rarely get to use it because by the time I downed the chase lasted way longer than my ds timer.

But it's funny how they don't mind when killer perks getting nerfed, but god forbid when a survivor perk gets nerfed. 😂

    my suggested changes to DS:

When DS is active the following happens:

    1) Unbreakable and no mither will not let you get up (unbreakable's speedy recovery still works)

    2) after the 30 second mark if a player is working on a gen, totem, chest or healing another (already or starts) the perk deactivates

    3) if you get in a locker and IS is not healing you DS deactivates (so yes DS still active while IS is healing you)

    4) if you are after 30 seconds and 2 or 3 have not deactivated the perk, the perk deactivates at the correct time specified for the perk ie tier 3 is 1 minute.

YES you can still weaponize it but not as badly. It also does not address the fact that the killer can be punished still for being efficient and EGC is not addressed. This is still fair, and limits what can be done to cause issues to the killer yet STILL afford the ESCAPE needed for the survivor.

    LOL

these are facts, i never heard a killer main actually talking about BS things on their side they're just to busy complaining with the opposite side.

I have seen many a killer main talk about hits that they think were sketch, but they have to accept them because that's what they get.

a note about programming in ANY GAME. there are two ways to verify interaction between two items in a game. be it survivor and killer weapon etc or survivor/killer and environment. choice #1 is collision detection and choice #2 is hit boxes. This post talks about hit boxes, I'm going to talk about collision detection.

I have heard many people (not all not a majority but many) talk about why haven't we gone away from hit boxes? here is why: collision detection is a subroutine in the program that is CONSTANTLY checked to make sure there is no interaction between things in the defined area. this means when you take one step it is checked, a second step it is checked. you throw a hatchet it is checked every millimeter every micrometer what ever as it goes. this will have several effects: 1) it will slow the processing down, 2) it will bog computers down, 3) it will make it very hard to have anything but walls for display because it will collide with everything. This is the most accurate way of doing this, but it is also the HARDEST and most intensive way to do it.

As seen here the hit boxes do several things, it determines where you can go, where you can fit (the fat shaming tree and rocks!) and when you get hit. but if you have multiple hit boxes for each character it can cause issues SO a single hit box is done for all, so you don't have issues with incorrect boxes being applied to the wrong people and it is a point that could be exploited by hackers. the generic size has the male characters fill out the hit box but female does not totally fill it out so you see how a hit might not connect to a female character but does a male character. Also when repairing a gen you are not crouching though it looks like you are so your hitbox is a shining beacon for those hatchets and harpoons! So there is the short of it, hit boxes does what is needed the best way 90% of the time, where as collision can be very wonky when used without the hit boxes.

You are actually incorrect in your example with PGTW.

It is completely fine to talk about it in relation to other perks since this nerf is actually happening. That is the difference between "we need to nerf keys, bUt WhAt AbOuT mOrI's?" and "Why isn't DS being nerfed if the reasons for nerfing PGTW apply to it?

It is totally fair for people to want answers as to why it is happening to one but not the other. Is it annoying with how many posts there are? Yeah, but it IS a big issue.

You definitely have the right of this, the reason it can be compared is the REASON given for the "nerf" if the reason was different the comparison could not be made as it is. when you say that you reduce something because the time frame is too long and allows you to do more than what you expected you can then look at the other that has a timelimit and allows things to be done during it though the reasons for the time limit is different for each, the issue was stated what can be done inbetween start and end.

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

DS and Pop literally have nothing to do with each other.

If you want an actual discussion comparing the “timers” that’s fine... but you have to be prepared to also discuss the other parts of each perk because they aren’t at all similar aside from a timer being attached to each other.

Do survivors get DS to activate after every unhook? No.

Is DS guaranteed to proc at least once in a match? No.

This is probably the most ridiculous comparison I have seen in a while.

the issue is not the timer, or how the perk is SUPPOSED to be used. the statement is "We do not want killers to be able to chase a survivor, down them and still have pop available to kick a gen, then pick that downed survivor up to get another stack of pop." well survivors do this "I have DS! I will take the BT HIT and then harrass the killer, then jump on a gen, totem, or in a locker to force the killer to grab or waste time waiting for one minute! same with oh i'm downed but i have DS and unbreakable! so if they pick me up i get to stick it to them, or if they leave me down, I will be able to get myself up and then i can get on a gen and if they grab me again i'll just stick it to them!

so the issue here is that you are saying is not an issue, it is. DS totally punishes killers for survivors playing badly or killers playing very efficiently. example: I'm facing 4 survivors, one person dies on hook, three left and I had survivor A on hook, chasing survivor B and survivor C rescuing survivor A. I hook B, then chase C down after they unhook A, I then hook C shortly after and A jumps intentionally and loudly into a locker. sure I COULD wait, but why am I punished to wait becuase of DS. I grab A out, they DS me and then I have three survivors running around in the time frame it takes me to get recovered and re-oriented to go after someone. how is that fair? it isn't and with the silence on DS people make the assumption that the devs do not care and this update buffs survivors perks and buffs niche perks for killers (rarely played) and nerfs killer's perks and abilities. this presents a survivor sided mentality even if it isn't true and even if the changes are good, but to use the reasoning that you can do more than one thing during the time frame of pop as to why they reduce it, this is something that is able to also be applied to DS.

This is why the community is up in arms about these changes.

  • it gives the option and makes it why there are more than one kill. to be that specific does not help. for instance hook 5 people, down 2 while they are exposed and kill one by your hand while using devour hope. the option is to use devour only or something else. you can't make something that specific and expect it to be reliably done.

  • @Sluzzy said:

An entire perk slot is used for that small benefit. A small amount of anti-momentum. No different that killers using tons of slow-down perks.

Reducing the timer on DS would incentivize killers to tunnel more. Reducing the timer on POP doesn't affect anything other than killers simply need to kick the gen first instead of chasing someone else first.

Reducing the DS timer weakens the perk exponentially more than reducing the timer on POP.

remove the weaponization of DS and the perk will be much better. deactivate no mither and unbreakable's ablity to get up when DS is active that's fine. deactivate DS when in a locker, totem, gen, healing others after 30 seconds gone by then it's fine no FREE gen just because you have DS.

  • @Sluzzy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1650090#Comment_1650090

Invincible means you can't hit them. That is hardly the case. It's also only one minute, you should be chasing someone else instead of camping if you don't like the stun.

it's invincible because of the fact you can't get around it for 1 minute, either down them and leave them and then they get up with unbreakable or you grab them out of a locker and they ds you. just today I had a match where I was hooking survivors got one dead, two on hook then the other one jumped in a locker and i had to either let them stay there or grab them... thing is they'd been off the hook for two other hooks. so it punishes killers when survivors either weaponize the perk or are crappy survivors. thus it rewards bad play or weaponized play. this is much like the survivors complaining about noed rewarding bad play by the killer. and now pop is being altered becuase it's got too long of a timer. ds is much the same way and gives them 1 minute to work on gens (almost a full gen) with impunity because if you grab them off a gen pop they have ds to hit you with.

Again, I have never had wait times like that. So I don't think sending the troublemakers off will result in that. We can agree to disagree. My personal, FAVORITE thing would be to ban them, with ever increasing lengths of the ban until they change the behavior or go away. However, due to hackers fiddling with bans, that isn't really on the table right now.

Hackers cannot control which QUE people go into, however, which is why I say don't ban them. Don't even tell them. It is just something that triggers with excessive disconnects. They will just quietly be moved off to the Disconnect Loser Que. *It has to be a pattern, regular disconnects because we don't want to punish people who have a legitimate issue with connection, system, or emergency.

When said players have played a certain number of games without disconnecting, they get routed back into the larger que with the rest of us. Me, I wouldn't even tell ANYONE that it is happening. I'd rather have them complain about their long waits than complain about their persecution. My point is, disconnects are a problem and it is getting worse. The only solutions are BAN or consolidate them together. I really don't care which as long as SOMETHING is done. Since the ban has the issue with the hackers, that brings us down to ONE option. *Unless we can get the hacker thing fixed.

i've seen queue times be high up becuase one side has less people (usually survivors) and the killers are waiting for people to finish matches. ask most killers about queue times. GET rid of cheaters. hackers give people bad times as well

"What you view as the underlying causes do not matter; they are entirely irrelevant"

I wasn't speaking personally. The very first post I made that told you why people might do it for altruism literally happened to me. I was the killer in the best game I've ever had when it happened. Tell me why I should feel cheated? I'm not saying they didn't break the rules, but if you can't grasp the underlying causes of why it happens then you can't even begin to talk about how to fix them. This statement proves that you have zero interest in actually figuring out the issue and solving the problem because those things are relevant to everyone and they should be relevant to you.

"You advocate cheating as an acceptable option."

Show me where I said more people should do this. I told you that it had been used for altruistic purposes and then gave you an example where people used it against me to demonstrate the source of why that comment was made. Obviously there's a problem with the game if people feel the need to DC not just for pointless purposes, not just for selfish purposes, but for selfless purposes as well. Now if you really find that so painful to hear then you can argue why that wasn't selfless and why I should've felt cheated when that SWF did it to me. According to you, I as the killer should have felt cheated but I didn't. That's just me personally. That entire point I brought up was just something that happened to me and I thought they were being selfless by doing it-which they were. I lost maybe 2k bloodpoints for him doing that to save his friend, he lost almost 30k. I get that if it were you, you would have video evidence a written, notarized hardcopy of your complaint kept on file with a triplicate sent to BHVR headquarters with the duplicate filed for possible future legal injunction for infringing on terms of service- but you fail to:

    1)Understand why DCs happen.

2)Offer solutions for why DCs happen.

3)Attempt any method of offering or playstyle that mitigates that behaviour.

We get it. You don't like it when people quit your games. But really there is no reason for you to post constantly and say nothing of value. What's the point of repeating yourself if your only claim is erroneous(screaming cheater) and you can't figure out what's causing people the kind of distress you obviously have over it.

    "1)Understand why DCs happen.

2)Offer solutions for why DCs happen.

3)Attempt any method of offering or playstyle that mitigates that behaviour."

    1) DC's happen because people are selfish and decide that they don't like something then stop playing that match hoping to get a better match.

    2) solutions: disconnect penalties as per EULA, rules and ToS.

    3) there is no method of offering a play style when it's a selfish reason and not play dependent.

thus your ideas are not going to work people will dc at the drop of a hat.. there is a thread that shows 3 disconects on the first HIT a legion gets without them even engaging the killer or the killer even downing a person, how can you change that behavior? PENALIZING those that do it.

"They HAVE brought up valid, just not valid in your books"

Yes, and there's no reason I should consider it valid. Nor should you. We know DCs happen so why can't we talk about why they happen? I'm not telling anyone that they should do it to others. I don't feel cheated when people do it to me. That's all. The problem is that you and two others refuse to admit the underlying causes and it's really weird you would invest so much discussion on something and not move past your initial claim. My point is that DC happens for a reason and you probably need to figure out what those reasons are and then we can talk about what can fix the issue.

"I certainly did not report the post"

....I wasn't speaking to you Freki? Are you just Mound with a second account? lmfao

And no I don't advocate cheating. I just said I don't feel cheated by something like this that happens and gave you a scenario where it happened to me and I didn't feel cheated. Rather than reiterating something we've already hammer at least a dozen times, why not discuss why I should feel cheated when I didn't? Or the scenarios that cause it? Or how to fix those scenarios? Because I keep telling you over and over and OVER again that this is not the intention of my conversational points. Move past it.

"'if you do something against the rules then you are CHEATING"

What a brave position to take lol we've already kind of established this like in the very beginning of this thread

"yes that was not what you said but it was for an example"

So you accuse me of "advocating cheating" and then admit that's not what I said? Why are you going to accuse me then back out of it in the very next breath? This is absurd. You are absurd. At this point I can't tell if you're either just piggybacking on others for the attention or if this is an alt account. This is a very bizarre thing to do.

"ALSO the underlying cause for the disconnects is not what you are saying it is, it is the fact that people decide (killer or survivor) they don't like something so they feel since they paid for it they can just up and quit"

Read the first part where you said it's not what I said it is. Now read the part's where that's exactly what I said it is. I've already covered very specific scenarios that the game encourages it. I already posted about how a group did it to me for morally altruistic reasons and I respected them for it. I'm not saying you have to(although, I think my mentality is a little bit healthier than the guy who records every game and submits video evidence every time a player doesn't sate his ego and decides not to play). The point of that is that I can see why they did that. If you want people to not do that, you have to give them alternatives. But you gave a few good examples. People who DC on a map they don't like when there are offerings to go where they do want to- that's an uncommon but fair example that happens from time to time. I've never done that, I don't know anyone personally who does that, I don't see why you would do that, and even worse there is no work around for people who are too lazy to light an offering just to go to a map they like. I don't think there's an answer to fix that particular problem.

talk about taking something completely out of context: what I said was ""If the killer walks sideways two inches then backwards four then runs forward 10 it's ok to dc" and then say well i don't advocate for people to dc, because you JUST DID! (yes that was not what you said but it was for an example)" (you did not say the bit before the parenthesis) so who's the one with egg on their face? lol You ARE advocating cheating if you CONDONE and say they should be able to do it outside of the reasons the developers have stated it's use is for. that's plain and simple. STOP misquoting and quote the WHOLE thing till you learn to stop manipulating things to get a favorable reaction by omitting the true things said, till then you are just as bad as politicians.

Absolutely. I say let the disconnecting ilk play with each other ALL THEY WANT. If they get a faster que... GREAT... they will be playing with fewer different people.... /and/ with people who disconnect all the time. I call it justice. Let them taste that for a bit and I suspect you will get a change of behavior.

mean while you get 20+ minute queue times. you really want to sit there waiting for a lobby for 20 minutes???? while they get to play and play and play. I would not like that myself I'd rather not have the ones cheating get to play while I have to wait why reward cheating?

No one is thinking “oh im a bad boy for dc”ing” when they get a 15 min ban. No they just go make food, take the dog out or go play 1 of the millions of other video games

they will when they get 1 day time outs or 3 day time outs. and if not they keep getting them they'll eventually go away and you won't see them again and people will not have to worry about that one person dcing. it takes time but people will either stop dcing or they'll stop playing.

  • @Moundshroud said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1648020#Comment_1648020

Except that doesn't really jive with how things have gone in the past. Even when our Disconnect Penalties were in place, hitting people HARD... it was preventing them from playing for a period of time. That means the SAME people were still diverted (just to no games instead of games with each other). During that period, every period where the DC penalties were in effect, the average wait time only increased by 1-3 minutes depending on region.

I don't question your math. I'm saying that it isn't a direct correlation to wait time. What is a direct correlation to lost time is disconnects. Penalties or their own Que, whichever is ultimately done, still ends up being the lesser of two evils.

so you are willing to give people who disconnect a faster play time, more time playing, and you are willing to take extended delays as a player? I guess you really want to reward them. I'd rather take longer queue times knowing that people are not being rewarded for cheating. That's my thoughts, better I suffer as long as they are not rewarded.

I can add, subtract, multiply, and divide. I can even do statistical equations. What I'm pointing out is one "disconnect" can ruin (and usually does) an entire game. This is how the process goes right now:

    1. We go ready to look for a match.
    2. We find a match and people have a chance to leave the Lobby before the game starts (perfectly acceptable).
    3. Somebody disconnects after the game has started to load. This causes a net loss of minimum (5) minutes for everyone involved.

    OR

    1. A Killer disconnects and Everyone loses out and the net loss is usually 5-10 minutes. *More if some of the game is played.
    2. A Survivor (or several) disconnect after the game has started. This is absolutely the WORST outcome because losing even one Survivor can cause the remaining three a long, miserable game. Net loss up to 20+ minutes.

Now, I know you feel my basic skills with numbers are suspect, but I want to point out that diverting a minority of problem players to their own Que will result between 1-5 minutes longer looking for a game. That means the worst case of my suggestion is no worst than the BEST case of the current disconnect situation. So, yes.. I will gladly wait a few extra minutes to get my match started knowing it isn't going to be ruined and thus lose even MORE time.

ok here is the math: say there are 50 killers, and 200 survivors. people are getting matches as fast as matches end. now take 5 killers out for dcing and 50 survivors for dc'ing that is 45 killers and 150 survivors. the 150 survivors leaves 2 survivors looking for matches and 8 killers waiting for matches. so people are going to be waiting 4-20 minutes for a match as survivors or longer for killers. that's the match of it so those 5 killers are getting constant matches, and the 50 survivors 30 are always waiting for a match to group up. so what happens when the ones waiting for matches decide to quit the game? now more people dc and it gets even worse. this is what I am talking about and you think people are going to be happy with 20 minute wait times?

Except they aren't really removed, they are diverted. It will be the same number of Players, with the minority of those who abuse the disconnect forced to play in their much smaller (and probably slower) Que. I don't care about them, to be perfectly honest. What it means is that while we will have a small minority broken off, we will have fewer people that disconnect. I'd gladly wait a couple of extra minutes for that since losing 5-10 on a wasted wait, load up, and ruined game is FAR WORSE.

Besides, they are going to hate being in the DC Que, and many of them will work to get back into the real one by stopping disconnecting. It is a self-correcting issue.

if they are not in the normal queue for matches it affects those that are in the normal queue. if you can't math then well i'm sorry

I seriously doubt the disconnect crowd outnumber the rest of us. They seem to be a distinct minority. I don't think it would slow us down at all.

it's simple mathematics. take 50 killers, 200 survivors. if you remove 3 surivivors people wait. remove 50 survivors and 5 killers that leaves 45 killers and 150 survivors. some of those killers get long wait times because there is not enough people for matches.
