If Iron Will becomes meta again, which it probably will as it was before then Spirit is gonna need some compensation buffs

I thought the devs were slowly making it so survivor items and perks don’t affect individual killer powers anymore? Like taking away the ability to lightburn Wraith and Nurse, or Adrenaline no longer waking you up against Freddy. This seems like a bit of a step in the wrong direction to me

While I do agree Iron will is definitely an all or nothing perk, and even a survivor making 1% noise would make the perk useless against a killer with a good pair of headphones on, I think buffing it without thinking how it’s going to affect certain killer powers is a bad idea

It won’t be what it was. You can’t use an exhaustion perk with Iron Will. Old Iron Will didn’t have that limitation.

So that's not completely true. Yeah you can't mind game AI but the knights guards have some of the worst patching and AI in general. For example if you touch a vault spot but don't vault the guard will go that that vault and act like you did vault before it continue to chasing you. This buys so much time and distance that any of the three guards will not catch you. One top of that there's always the banner that most ppl can easily double back for and get. Of. This is assuming the knight isn't working with his guards which is where this change is pushing for since chasing with your guard in the PTB tomorrow will make the hunt timer go down faster.

The issue is that guards as a power overall sucks bc by themselves they will not do much if anything and the AI patching is so bad. Imagine if zombies was nemmy's only power, that is what knight is. His power is dependent on ######### AI and you the player has no agency over it. Knight is a M1 killer who power is held back by ######### coding and bugs.

How do you counter? I try to get the banner but the knight is always blocking it for me. Genuinely asking, idk what to do

To me It seems killer reworks are a higher priority seeing how we are now getting a rework to The Knight and there was a attempted rework for The Twins not long ago. I hope this means theres a higher chance of reworks for other killers who need them like Freddy and Myers in the future.

    1,000,000% Freddy please. Why Myers?

  • @Blueberry said:

His main issue isn't the tentacle. I think zombies are the main problem. If they were buffed properly they could be good map pressure + information.

Aren’t they already map pressure + information? They hold up their hands when they see a survivor and abuse me trying to fix a gen or stay up in chase.

I'm fine with the unfun parts being nerfed but a low tier killer shouldn't be nerfed as a whole. I truly believe that knight going to be a even wrost killer than he is now. Right now he barely a C tier killer and if these changes go through he definitely will drop down to D tier. This isn't something that should be celebrated by anyone. It's not like knight is a nurse, Wesker, or blight.

True, it’s just that Nurse and Blight FEEL like they require skill even if they actually don’t. I get your point about not nerfing him since he’s low tier. There’s very little counter play against knight, which makes him frustrating to play against. Can’t mind game an AI I guess is what I’m trying to get across.

  • DESERVED nerf. I’ve played Knight. He’s fun. Have you played against one? It’s the most miserable experience ever second only to Skull Merchant. Tunnels across the board.

yeah! I’m like, “killer has already lost! It’s daytime!”

  • Don’t know if this is small, but bring back the add-ons that made the maps darker. Much of the game is too bright for my liking for it to be a horror game

I personally get frustrated with Blight because of the add-ons that allow him to turn around terrain. I compare him to a cross between Hillbilly and Chucky.

Compared to Hillbilly, Blight can similarly maintain a threat and keep harassing survivors at loops. He can keep bouncing after a survivor for the right angle, but if the survivor keeps manoeuvring well, they can get out of his way, and we get thrilling intense encounters like Hillbilly. However when he has the right add-ons, he bounces around for the right angle, then just turns around the corner like he's using a Pig dash and just hits you. It feels at times like there is literally nothing you can do, especially as like Billy, he can just break pallets immediately if you manage to reach and throw it.

So instead this ability to turn around the corners seems similar to Chucky... however unlike Chucky who only gets one attempt, Blight can keep taking bounces until he gets a dash he wants. If you reach a pallet, Chucky can scamper, but if he's mid dash, turning to hit you is very hard, and if he ever misses he has a long cooldown, and is only 4.4m/s. Blight on tbe other hand has his bounces back on a much shorter cooldown, and is a 4.6m/s killer. You can't leave the now used up tile to go to the next, because like Hillbilly, Blight can cut you off as you leave. So even if you win the exchange, there is rarely any safety you can make it to, you're instead immediately in another contest with Blight.

I understand I'm not particularly good at this game yet, I'm still trying to learn, and I think I've played a basekit Blight on 1 or 2 occassions, and that seems like it could be pretty fun... playing as him seems kinda intense and fun without being stupid... but most Blights I've seen are using turning add-ons, and when you have a killer constantly charging around like Hillbilly, and turning round corners like Chucky, who even if you stun or throw a pallet against, still has the power to reach you before you can make safety... Blight feels very oppressive and obnoxious.

Sincerely, thank you for your explanation. You make very good points and I can see why he frustrates people.

Personally, Potential Energy from Victorrio. Its an excellent example of high risk, high reward. You are able to store 20% of a gens progress ,and can install it in any generator. Caught in a potential 3 gen? Trying to do the Normandy gen? Maybe you dont want to worry about Merciless Storm?

Imo, the main problem is so many players aren't smart when they use PE. If you are working on a gen solo, you should NEVER activate PE and start gaining charges until you are at 98% or so on a gen. Basically enough that you gain full stacks, and immediately repair the gen. If someone is on gen with you than yes, activate it and gain the stacks.

If the Killer is coming close, just dump the stacks you have. You dont NEED to build the 20 stacks to dump them, only to continue working on a gen.

The biggest downside is obviously if you get hit you lose your stacks, but thats what gives the perk its risk element to justify the reward. Not saying its the greatest out there, but a lot of people sleep on it I think

So talking about a killer that's incredibly controversial, I'll be honest and straight up. Yes I play her in a 3 gen defence way, to me there's no other way of playing her effectively. If you're playing a chase playstyle then you're effectively shooting yourself in the foot so to speak.

So I'm unfortunately one of those people who can't help but have somewhat of a competitive mindset. It's not that I don't mind loosing, I'd just much prefer a 3k and move onto next match. That to me is a win condition. Yes I know I could do that with nurse, spirit, other S tiers or even A tier killer's. But at time's when I mess up constantly, I feel like it just gets to me if that makes sense? It messes me up even more and I end up just being pretty unhappy playing the game, especially when people message me saying stuff like "gg ez killer". I don't mind messages but it get old after a while.

So why did i bring this stuff up? Now I love playing her because I find it just incredibly relaxing, now I'm not taking away the fact that it's incredibly boring or unfair to face, that's a whole other issue. But something about just listening to a podcast or some music while chilling and playing dbd feels nice. Yes I know the killer gets alot of backlash due to this playstyle, but I'm not doing it to be malicious or mean, or to even sour someone's mood. I like doing it because it's something I find relaxing to do and not having to stress or worry feels so good.

So if you've read this far, I do apologise for posting quite a lengthy post, I do understand how frustrating it is to see someone enjoy a playstyle that is widely despised, but I do hope by reading this you can see the point of the topic. While I can understand how it is to face something like this, I also hope you can understand the other side of the coin.

Thank you for reading this, I once again apologise for such a length post. <3

I’m glad you’ve found a way to make the game what it’s supposed to be: enjoyable. I don’t like facing it, but playing killer is stressful because survivors have the potential to bully any killer. It’s no fun to receive “gg ez killer” when you’re trying to have fun on any killer, especially when I play more casually.

  • @Reinami said:

The problem with made for this isn't that it is really OP all the time. It definitely is too powerful when combined with other movement speed effects, and against killers that already struggle like trapper, pig, sadako etc. It just makes their lives much worse than it already is. Basically, against the top tier killers like nurse spirit and blight, they aren't gonna care about it. But the lower tier killers are struggling against it.

Secondly, it doesn't have any downside and the survivor doesn't have to do anything to earn it. To "earn" it, you just get hit. You get rewarded for getting hit. How many killer perks have been constantly nerfed because the killer gets rewarded for "losing" like NOED? It is going to activate 100% of the time in a chase against any killer that doesn't have an instadown, exhaustion causing addons are in very short supply these days, and last so short that they aren't going to help very much.

I'd argue even that other perks the survivors have access to have downsides, have to be earned, or about punishing the killer for doing something specific such as camping, or tunneling, or the survivor has to earn it, like the current dead hard.

There are also so many really strong buildings in the game that have really tight loops that already are hard to deal with, that the extra movement speed turns them into infinites. Main building window on garden of joy for example, is an actual infinite against some killers when made for this is in play.

The thing is that how many people do you see abusing the super haste builds? The average person isn’t gonna be working as hard as they can to abuse the perk.

Not to ping you twice, but i want to make sure you see this post as well. Something i have been thinking about for a while, is that this game is actually designed to make players suffer. Specifically survivors, although killers end up suffering at the hands of SWF and such as well, but mainly survivors.

What i mean by that is. This game is designed around survivors "playing a game" despite how unfun that "game" is, which is, repairing the generators, and escaping the trial. Imagine if there was no killer in the game at all, you might have actually experienced this before with like an afk wraith or something like that. The "game" that survivors play, is to repair the generators and escape.

However for killers, their "game" is to stop the survivors from playing their "game". And how do they do that? By chasing, downing and ultimately hooking them. So what have they now done. They put the survivor on a time out effectively, so now their team must come get them. They took away a survivor's agency to do, well, anything, and now they must rely on their teammates to give them that agency back.

The entire game is designed around survivors losing their sense of agency and being unable to do anything. Ultimately, this is personally why i prefer playing killer, because i don't like that feeling of losing the ability to do anything, but, i do play both sides depending on time of day, and try to play them at least relatively equally in order to learn how both sides play and get better. But i'm just saying that from a "fun" and "preference" side of things, i have more fun with killer because that role is not designed to lose their ability to do anything because the other side is completing their objective.

This is also why i think SWF bully squads are so much more unfun to go against. Because they flip the roles, such that, the one that has agency, and the one that is designed to take it away, are flipped.

I’m sorry, it’s just a game and I let myself get heated. I can see why it’s better to play to win as a killer bc there’s only one against 4. I mean to say I agree. I personally do not feel powerful when I play killer. Part of that is just skill issues on my end but I also feel like it can be hard to gain control over survivors with gens popping. It feels to me like some Killer base powers need to be stronger. I main Deathslinger, and I ran with no add one for the first time in a long time and I felt helpless. His base reload seems very slow to me. Thoughts on focussing more adjustments to base powers rather than perks?

If you are specifically not using a strategy because it is "unfun" even if it is effective, then your goal is not to win. Inherently that makes you a "scrub" by definition, and i don't mean it as some "rude" term, its more of a "clinical" definition.

I post this a lot here, but i think it bears repeating in this case. I would suggest reading the free E-Book "Playing to Win" by game designer David Sirlin. https://www.sirlin.net/ptw.

Here is an excerpt from the book that i feel is most relevant here:

    Introducing...the Scrub

The derogatory term “scrub” means several different things. One definition is someone (especially a game player) who is not good at something (especially a game). By this definition, we all start out as scrubs, and there is certainly no shame in that. I mean the term differently, though. A scrub is a player who is handicapped by self-imposed rules that the game knows nothing about. A scrub does not play to win.

Now, everyone begins as a poor player—it takes time to learn a game to get to a point where you know what you’re doing. There is the mistaken notion, though, that by merely continuing to play or “learn” the game, one can become a top player. In reality, the “scrub” has many more mental obstacles to overcome than anything actually going on during the game. The scrub has lost the game even before it starts. He’s lost the game even before deciding which game to play. His problem? He does not play to win.

The scrub would take great issue with this statement for he usually believes that he is playing to win, but he is bound up by an intricate construct of fictitious rules that prevents him from ever truly competing. These made-up rules vary from game to game, of course, but their character remains constant. Let’s take a fighting game off of which I’ve made my gaming career: Street Fighter.

In Street Fighter, the scrub labels a wide variety of tactics and situations “cheap.” This “cheapness” is truly the mantra of the scrub. Performing a throw on someone is often called cheap. A throw is a special kind of move that grabs an opponent and damages him, even when the opponent is defending against all other kinds of attacks. The entire purpose of the throw is to be able to damage an opponent who sits and blocks and doesn’t attack. As far as the game is concerned, throwing is an integral part of the design—it’s meant to be there—yet the scrub has constructed his own set of principles in his mind that state he should be totally impervious to all attacks while blocking. The scrub thinks of blocking as a kind of magic shield that will protect him indefinitely. Why? Exploring the reasoning is futile since the notion is ridiculous from the start.

You will not see a classic scrub throw his opponent five times in a row. But why not? What if doing so is strategically the sequence of moves that optimizes his chances of winning? Here we’ve encountered our first clash: the scrub is only willing to play to win within his own made-up mental set of rules. These rules can be staggeringly arbitrary. If you beat a scrub by throwing projectile attacks at him, keeping your distance and preventing him from getting near you—that’s cheap. If you throw him repeatedly, that’s cheap, too. We’ve covered that one. If you block for fifty seconds doing no moves, that’s cheap. Nearly anything you do that ends up making you win is a prime candidate for being called cheap. Street Fighter was just one example; I could have picked any competitive game at all.

Doing one move or sequence over and over and over is a tactic close to my heart that often elicits the call of the scrub. This goes right to the heart of the matter: why can the scrub not defeat something so obvious and telegraphed as a single move done over and over? Is he such a poor player that he can’t counter that move? And if the move is, for whatever reason, extremely difficult to counter, then wouldn’t I be a fool for not using that move? The first step in becoming a top player is the realization that playing to win means doing whatever most increases your chances of winning. That is true by definition of playing to win. The game knows no rules of “honor” or of “cheapness.” The game only knows winning and losing.

A common call of the scrub is to cry that the kind of play in which one tries to win at all costs is “boring” or “not fun.” Who knows what objective the scrub has, but we know his objective is not truly to win. Yours is. Your objective is good and right and true, and let no one tell you otherwise. You have the power to dispatch those who would tell you otherwise, anyway. Simply beat them.

Well then yes, I’m a scrub. It secures your win. Ok, I get that. For you personally, do you tunnel? Asking this is a scrub question then, but then if you only look at terms of winning and losing so black and white, answer me this: Do you enjoy the suffering of others? It’s a yes or no question, just like winning. Do I win this match? Yes or no? Do I enjoy the suffering of others? Yes or no?

  • I main Deathslinger, too. I really like the oblivious perks you’re running. I will have to try this build myself. Preference-wise, I would swap Gearhead for Save the Best for Last. Deathslinger’s power is awesome, but it takes a lot of time. You add aiming, reeling, hitting, wiping weapon, reloading, aiming, reeling, downing, wiping, and picking up, it costs a lot of time. Getting even a few StBfL tokens saves you more time than you would think. At max it feels almost instant.

  • @Reinami said:

So, what you are saying is that the wraith used a strategy in their games that resulted in a 100% win rate, albeit with a very small sample size. Why exactly are you complaining about that? The strategy seems to be highly effective, wouldn't the wraith be a fool to not employ a strategy that results in that high of a win rate?

It secures a win, I’m not THAT dumb. But can’t one find a strategy that doesn’t make the other side absolutely miserable? When I play survivor my intention isn’t to make a killer’s gameplay miserable.

  • Thank you, I am experiencing the same problem

  • @Pulsar said:

Wraith sort of lends himself to tunneling.

Easier to catch Survivors off-guard = easier tunneling = easier matches

That makes sense. I guess tunneling just bothers me from my personal view of DBD “morality”. Like I personally think it’s not cool to tunnel because the person doesn’t get a chance to play.
