Same lol. i never found the series scary ☺️
Everything is too busy being "weird" and unnaturally that it never really really leaves much room to the imagination to fill in the horror of it. plus the character behave or act too stiff or robotic pretending to be human that you can never stay immersed before bursting out laughing at how bad everyone sounds or behaves.
I'm a big fan of New England, Stephen King esq settings in fiction but the game didn't cut it for me.
One of the things that i can applaud the game on is their great use of sound design and music. The music makes me feel a whole spectrum of feelings, it can meticulously illicit feelings of anxiety, dread, conform, happiness and surrealism. And its probably one of the best things that they could do by managing to get the original composers work on the dbd theme and chase music.
Yeah and its just it sorta meh to me but I do see why we got a chapter off of Silent hill though, but apart of me feels like we should've gotten a chapter from a game that we all know about and is a bit more modern
-
I would say Clowns for there is still not left known about him and who he was. I would like to see more of that in the Tome V that is coming out. Also Deathslingers I literally his lore to be a movie its so good.

Know which loop you can chase the survivor
I know some but I was called out after defending 3 gens constantly so I immediately dropped chases and called me a camper when I was just defending gens

This.
Can't stress enough how important it is to learn to abandon chases and tough it out thought the taunts.
The game isn't balanced around good survivors, and they know it. They will harass you the entire game, specially if they are a SWF with a map offering.
It's paramount that you don't tilt against "survivors".
I believe this is the hardest thing for at red ranks, not tilting.
The amount of games you can win by "just" not falling into their mental traps is insane.
I usually do, but for some reason they make every pallet safe, its annoying.
-
@DerZuntor said:
Something i do is i never respect palettes unless i know for sure the person i chase will drop it.
Many Survivors will test if you respect palettes if you don't they will probably drop them the next time. If you do they will probably not drop them.
Try to focus on the weakest survivors the strongest will just cost you more time to down and a long chase can lose you the game.
Sometimes you will have games where 3+ gens will be completed in the first 2 - 3 minutes.
If that's the case you need to kill someone as quickly as possible even if you have to tunnel someone.
A very important thing is mindgaming practice mindgaming, moonwalking and watch looping guides.
(Like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPExWQ5_UjY)
Moonwalking for me is tough like hiding your red highlight thats a bit of a challenge, I do however trick them into dropping it early however so I can break it.
@The_Krapper said:
When playing a killer that doesn't have map pressure you have to have strategy and plan for the endgame after you get your first hook or two , pick the 4 closest gens together and protect them making sure they don't get done, don't over commit to chases if you notice a survivor is in a really good position to run you, try to make them waste a couple of safe pallets smack and go in some instances, eventually they will run out of safe zones and if you do a good job protecting those gens it's almost a guaranteed win for you because you've corralled them all in one area that they have to be in to possibly escape and there's no safety left for them
I try my hardest on that, but I'm either gen rushed to hell or I get really lucky and 4k. Usually its gen rushed, I recently got their but apparently this game don't care about that.
-
@Desh said:
Play how YOU want to play. Don't listen to salty Survivors who get mad because you run X Killer, Y Perk, or Z Add-on/Offering. You'll be getting a lot of toxicity, and a lot of hate just for beating them or losing to them.
Well its not that, its just I'm the one who is losing here not them
-
@MrLimonka said:
Probably the best tip is to not commit to a chase if someone can loop very well - especially when they are in a strong tile.
Also don't chase survivors in areas where all gens are done since your primary objective is to protect generators. Also use a good build - an info perk and either aggresive perks like Bamboozle/Spirit Fury/Enduring or slowdown perks like Pop/Ruin/Corrupt
Yeah I figured that as much its just hard to do that sorta thing at times. Like on some certain maps it doesn't allow that to you at times like Lampkin lane, very little you can do

Well the movement of grass would be a cool thing to have to use against her but we don't. She doesn't move the grass she phase walks over which would be a really interesting mechanic, and it would allow for the survivor to at least have a small idea as to what she's going to do a bit like old Freddy, and the spirit would have the choice of moving through the grass or maybe finding a way to the survivor that doesn't make her move any grass which would potentially take longer etc.
Thats kinda what I mean I just wish she should be more mind gameable, just something that allows me to predict her movement

That's what she's suppose to be, guess work
Well its not that I don't like it, I just feel like there should at least be something to let you know she is phasing while she stands still rather than just the movement of the grass, or something. I just want something that will allow a possible con about her, that isn' to major but its enough to mess up badly.
-
I think she just needs something that doesn't feel like its half the time guess work because that's what it feels like to me, a bunch of guess work.
-
I just think its the psychological need to win, this apply's to survivors and killers. If you are confused on what I'm saying well what I am trying to say is that there is something inside us that activates when we keep losing like at uno after a few rounds, or competitive Overwatch, or Dead by Daylight even( It happens when you keep dieing to killer by being tunneled, camped, looped and so on or getting a de pip for killer and you being treated like trash through out the match.) and it grows so big that people will resort into toxicity, its a common thing that happens in games. But by doing this you spread the toxicity. Now I have met some very nice people in the chat within Dbd community. However there are a handful of people that resort to this. Just don't let this get to you and try to your best, its okay to do it sometimes( I mean like once a day on both sides) but not every time. So good luck man I hope your having better matches and I will see you in the fog.
-

I think it could work, only if they change it up enough. Also consider that theres characters based off of real people, such as Letherface being based off of Ed Gein.
Like its definitely tragic and he was a murderer, I get that 100%. But if they change it enough it can work.
They could change it like how they made the Ghoast face their unique character but it's still ghost face.
Yeah that could work it just has to be done in a certain way, plus imagine the wide arrange of cosmetics that could work for this guy, since no one really knew who he was, he could've been literally anyone. A butcher, a barber, A fisherman, and so on, it could really play with the fantasies and the beliefs of who we believed Jack the ripper was and allow us customize the Ripper into who we think he was.
-
Even though i'd be down for a Jack the Ripper theme it be very hard though due to the fact this guy really did exist and may not be what people would like for there have been many adaptations of Jack the Ripper and people can get very entitled on who he was. Cool concept though

I like the cocnept, interesting power the seems balanced. So he is technically oni, demo, blight mixed together. The playstyle does seem fun but I don't think you can make it 117% spped though but I understood what your were going for. Its appearance is something very cool where it shapes back and forth to mroe human like to beast like however It would be a nightmare to program for the devs. Now the story is decent, I liked that you went on a first person perspective, but feels a bit wierd and off, we don't tend to hear the killers thoughts. So maybe you could work on that but I just think I would like go over like who was he before all this and have it more in depth. now perks seem decent the hex seems a bit op but if it is only used on time then I guess it serves its purpose, I like Lycnathropcy it seems something I would glladly run it. Addons feel very good, and very decent, overall I like them. again this is a cool concept and I would love to see a werewolf in dbd but I want to wait for a little while. Well done and I hope to see more of your works, and I'll see you in the fog

Okay, that's cool, but I think that being able to use the wheelchair takes a little too much time for it to be really worth using. So down a survivor, run to the next wheelchair and only then be able to use the ability, which also takes a while ... I as a survivor player think that most experienced survivors have managed one or two generators by then. But I don't know how to do it better either.
Well maybe not as long say like 10 seconds to get to tier 2, but the main focus of it all was for you to think about and use your head. Also the chair can work as a mini hook similar to pyramid heads cage but it takes longer to sacrifice with the wheelchair. But its meant to represent the harsh and cold brutality of Outlast, with it being something original

I understand what you meant, I just wanted to say that according to your logic, Miles can't be a survivor because he's dead, Trager shouldn't actually be a killer either. But yes Trager is the character you remember, I think since Waylon never met Trager, Miles should be the survivor because he's the main character and because he has a connection to Trager. But we could also say that Miles AND Waylon should be survivors, something like that already happened in the Stranger Things Chapter with Nancy and Steve. Then we have Trager Miles and Waylon in the chapter. Which is unlikely but would of course also be cool, would be two killers, let's say Trager and manera (I think you can do more with Manera than with the groom, so Manera) but I don't think something like that would come.
I don't think so either but Miles could be the survivor, but it could work. But in game lore there have been many killers who survived death and brought to the entity, Spirit, Oni, Plague, and Deathslinger are prime examples of that, all of them had near death experiences and almost died or did die but were brought back into the realm of the entity, literally Pig/ Amanda Young was killed in the Movie and yet we have her as a killer, so I guess if The entity can save what are to be killers from death than I think Trager could work I have a killer concept for the guy

Pls dont Spoiler Outlast 2, didnt play yet :). But we have to see the fact that Richard Trager is dead too, as are the Groom and Walker. So I think it could be Miles as a survivor too :) Thats not an argument for me.
BUT if we go by your logic, the Killer has to be Frank manera, the cannibal from the DLC. Hes officially not dead, it is only assumed that he was killed by the military. Another possibility would be the Walrider.. but he isnt interesting enough for me or i dont like him like the other charakters in the game.
So i would say the Killer and Survivor can be anyone in the Game, dead or alive.
Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to spoil the 2nd game I jsut assumed you played it already, anyway yeah they could add anyone but I just followed the logic of who was the most memorable Villian from the franchise and for me it was Trager, and I think so for many others.
-
I would say Richard Trager due to the fact that he is arguably one of the most iconic character, and most memorable villains in Outlast, plus he tends to be the main marketing for the series, with him being on the xbox menu store, the Outlast Trinity cover and more. He has had more appearances for the game then most of the other villains with the side exception of the Groom. Waylon should be the survivor due to the fact he technically is the only main character to survive in the Outlast series ( Besides Blake Langerman from Outlast 2 but if he were to return in the series he will probably be a demented killer like the others). Anyway I would be down for an Outlast Chapter

These are some of my favorite perks from my Fan made chapters I've made
( Personal perk to The Freakshow)Laughing matter: You laugh at the ambition of your prey. You become obsessed with one survivor, while in a chase with your obsession the next time they vault over a window, will call upon the entity to block that vault location for 12/14/16 seconds, Can only block one vault location at a time.
You can't run from whats behind you cause it always catches up, believe me I've tried."-Phineas Fredrickson/ The Freakshow.
This perk is kinda like bamboozle except the survivor does it for you
(Personal perk for Hope Jefferson)
Scraps and patches: During your time creating costumes of fur and fluff, you learned how to squeeze in the little things. when fully healed a survivor you immediately gain a token up to a maximum of 2/3/4, the next time your healing a survivor you spend a token giving it to them, the next time they fail a skillcheck they do not regress or cause a loud noise notifying the killer, token is consumed after failed skill check
" We've made mistakes, but that doesn't always mean something bad comes out of them." - Hope Jefferson
This perk is meant to be a stealthy and second chance based perk.
(Personal perk to The Fireman)
Flames of Rage/Rare Perk: Your anger blinds you and now punishment awaits them. After loosing a survivor in a chase, or a survivor takes a protection hit the perk activates for 30/40/50 seconds. During this time your attacks now cause the broken and hemorrhage status affect for 30 seconds. Can only be used every 60 seconds.
" His heart burns, his bloodlust endless, his rage consumes, all".-unknown
This perk is a rage perk, that provides you with benefits and punishes survivors for igniting your rage
(Personal perk to James Linderton)
Strike /common perk: You have fought monsters to defend others and fight back, in this place its no different. When the killer is within a close range with you, use the active ability button to strike at the killer stunning them for 3/4/5 seconds, however over time the more it is used the chances for a stun decreases. Afterwards you suffer from the exhausted status effect for 60/50/40 seconds.
" Come on Steak Head try me, I dare you." James Linderton
This basically is a perk that allows the survivor to sorta strike back at the killer, however it doesn't always work so use it wisely
(Personal perk to Camilla Cooper)
Brutal justice/rare perk: Anger fuels you as you watch those around you get hurt. If a survivor is hit by the killer no more than 24/28/32 meter away the perk activates. The next time you stun the killer with a pallet they take 40/45/50% longer than usual and the pallet is destroyed in the process, can only be used every 60/50/40 seconds.
This perk is another way to punish the killer for harming your teammates.
(Personal perk to the Surgeon) Outlast liscense
Doctors orders: Your quiet about your approach. The next time you break a pallet or breakable wall, you gain the undetectable status effect for 15/20/25 seconds and noise caused by breaking a pallet or breakable wall is reduced by 50/75/100%. Perk has a cool down of 60/50/40 seconds.
" Let me... Sell you... THE DREAM!" - Richard Trager
This perk represents Trager on how he was able to sneak up on you in the game with you noticing.
Again these are at least one perk from each killer or survivor I created
-
Steves perks are useful to some degree, but I think they should be buffed or reworked a bit because it does the character very little justice and paints him as [Bad Word]

Yeah me neither although it did show an interesting aspect we've never seen before. But I would want it on a different survivor Now I'm mostly scared for Legions.

So I've applied the changes, and copied down your suggestions for the future, for the horror villains of the Pinebrook series. And I got to say I liked hwo they turned out, again thank you all for giving so more insight upon the subject, but if you have any more tips or suggestions let me know. Again I'm still working on the book and excited to have it in stores for those who are excited to see what comes of it, I will be giving out very short excerpts to let you glimpse at the stories. I always thought the game should have something in place that gives each individual survivor something special that makes them stand apart from everyone else. Because I do agree that they are just skins once you've unlocked their teachables, but as others have stated balancing the game around that could prove to be very difficult.
SWF is already insanely overpowered, especially when equipped with the right perks, so I can only imagine the nightmare that would be in store for a killer that would face a full team of Claudettes capable of healing a bit faster, or a full team of Laurie Strodes with object of obsession that provides a little bit more information, etc.
Yeah damn that, Again if people complain about how loud or how quiet some certain survivors are then they can work on that and make it better, but I agree partially when survivors hit level 40 they are just skins, this and nothing more, and its sad because I wish they did something more than just be skins
-
I would say it should be changed where you get a 4k, because thats a merciless in my eyes. And I agree some of the killer perks are god awfully useless, for example pyramid head's perks aren't that great, or deathslingers perks, only one of them I would ever use, his power alone is not enough to suffice and his only gen pressure perk forces you tunnel the obsession and is only useful when someone is working on gen. Now there are some killer perks that are extremly decent and not that hard to get an adept, Clown is and example of this, if you are good at him, or Bubba. For Clown he literally has one of the best gen defence perk so far in the game, pop, and bamboozle is decent if used correctly. Bubba now that hes reworked is a very decent killer now. and his perks are very good. but thats not for every killer, I only have Clown, GF, Pig, executioner, so gl man
-
I really struggle the most when I play as a survivor with cross play, its just a pain.

cool concept but I would put this in the creations section though @MandyTalk or @Inji could help

I also realised I didn't clarify this point: The protagonist can be the terrifying character that keep the audience up at night.
Ooh that is interesting Idea( Evil thoughts going into the head). But the protagonist or at least main protagonist is at times is stubborn, and protective, but at times hes really empathetic, and kind, one thing he does have in common is that he is willing to bust his ass to help out others, although he won't be happy afterwords. Anyway I do have some characters like that in mind. Again a teaser is in this post if you haven't looked at that or have any questions let me know and I'll be give as much s I can
-
@MadLordJack said:
It depends entirely on your target audience. Horror villains don't have to be the scary characters in the story - menacing, sure, but they don't need to be what makes your audience check their closet at night. I dont write horror novels, per se, but all my short stories tend to be. And very few of them have a clear bad guy. Mostly they deal with either supernatural phenomena, genuinely terrible situations and choices, or cruelty from groups of otherwise normal people. Supposedly, that's what makes them scary.
But, if you want your villain to be the icon... Make them relatable. Human emotions, human reactions, but a completely alien perspective and goal. Having them commit unexpected cruelties and/or be driven by unknowable motives is a good way to get people to question things and create their own terrifying scenarios through fear of the unknowable.
Or you could just go full lovecraftian. That also works, and the gatekeepers of taste seem to prefer it over gore and body horror.
The Pinebrook series combines a bit of both with just a hint Lovecraftian and the intimidation sort of feel. Also a little Teaser is in the post

Good horror movie villains will hold your attention the whole time they're on the screen. I go to Hannibal Lector in both Silence Of The Lambs and The Hannibal tv series. Both portrayals of the character were excellent and you could never take your eyes off the screen when either of them were there.
Same with Kevin Spacey in Seven. The second you saw him you couldn't take your eyes off him. Jigsaw in Saw is another who just owned the screen every single time he was on it.
For more general reasons as to what makes a good horror villain (or villain in general) is someone who you can sympathise with, understand their logic or relate to. They can also be someone who seems really nice and calm but can just flip at any given time. Lastly someone who you know would get you if you were in that situation. One horror villain I remember is Joe from The Following. He was incredibly charming and you could see why people feel for him and would've done whatever he said. He's evil but he can fool you so easily into siding with him.
Yeah thats what people have been saying
-
@DragonMasterDarren said:
It depends on what you want out of the villain, as a hobby writer myself I've written a couple of villains, ranging from completely insane to sympathetic to giant monsters
since you're writing a horror story I'd go down the soulless evil human route or the eldritch monster route
I've gone down the route to villains who are psychotic as Lector, but are as charming as Pennywise or Slappy. and villians who are as intimidating as Pyramid Head or Jason, and invoke the same fear they produce
