You aren't alone. Sadly the killer role is something of a joke in this game. You are there for the survivors to laugh at and mess with, which is why a lot of people get angry when it doesn't work. Killer is almost impossible to 4k with now without meta perks or Nurse. Good teams of SWF will always prevail over most killers. Like others have said, try playing as "toxic" as possible. If this means camping or tunneling one person then so be it

See, this is the problem.
For you to have less sweaty games, the system has to match you up with less skilled people.
Which in turn makes things a lot less fun for those people.
I know that it's not great to have to play sweaty or lose, but under the rank system, this is going to be the case for a lot of new/intermediate folks. Because for you to have an easy time, they have to have a much less fair matchup. And sure, you could say 'well, I'll just go easy' (which from your own statements I doubt - it sounds like what you enjoy doing is stomping people) - but that's not going to be the case elsewhere.
Again, my own experiences were terrible until MMR and if I hadn't been basically trapped in my house with nothing else to play, I'd never have stuck it out. I wonder how many potential players didn't stick it out because they were constantly being matched up against endless smurfs or people far beyond their skill level who just wanted easier games to just smash the faces of people less skilled than them.
And yes - killer has issues right now, but these aren't to do with MMR. You are just noticing them now because you are being put up against other high MMR people.
What should be the focus is fixing these issues: reworking maps, fixing infinites, buffing about half the killer roster, addons and perks.
I don't enjoy stomping people. I enjoy fair matches which isn't what I've been getting when I can't even get a hook in before 2 gens. I'm not gonna camp and tunnel to get my kills. But you clearly don't listen to others and just make assumptions of the type of person some is. You are hard-headed and refuse to believe that the system can be broken just because it works for you and a select few others. If someone isn't liking it they must enjoy destroying people and totally can't just be getting screwed by the system. I have no intention to further discuss with you.

How do they know they are lower MMR?
This is actually a fascinating piece of psychology. A lot of people who are bad at things think they are better at them than they are. Similarly, many skilled people vastly underestimate that skill.
Keep at it. MMR takes a while to fall. I know that when I started a new killer it was maybe a dozen very difficult games before it started to even out.
While I'm never going to advocate for someone smurfing - consider trying to grind BP at the expense of 'wins' for a while. Most killers have a brown addon that does this. Do maybe a dozen games, then turn up the heat slightly. See how you go.
Also - yes, the majority of comments regarding most aspects of a game, especially a significant mechanical shake-up are going to be negative, because generally people don't take the time away from something they are enjoying to make a complaint. It's the 'customer service' paradox.
I think that the MMR system has definitely illuminated the shoddy balance the game has in some areas (as high MMR always does) and that it probably needs some of it's quirks ironed out.
That said, throwing the baby out with the bathwater at this point...would probably be a disaster. I know that I wouldn't want to go back to 2/3 of my games being against BM smurfing SWFs with thousands of hours more experience than me. That would probably be it. And I think that a lot of people who don't frequent the forums (a lot of people here are the 'crusty veteran' types) would react similarly.
Somehow I doubt that. I've heard way too many people say they wanna revert back. Also I shouldn't have to get ######### crushed for 12 games just to have 1 or 2 enjoyable ones because just playing the game and getting your objective will undoubtedly put me right back against tryhards. Being at a significant disadvantage the whole time and not being able to do anything as a so-called power role completely drains fun from the role. I don't want to suffer while trying to have fun, and I'm not playing for points. I am playing killer to kill. I recognize it might only be 1 or 2 kills sometimes but Jesus Christ this is #########. I would rather just play survivor where I feel like I have some sort of power to make a difference.

Mm.
I disagree.
The old rank system was amazing for people at high MMR and utter hell for everyone else. Before MMR, I'd be getting matched against high rank streamers and I had to sweat every single game for the 2k. Playing chill or trying different killers/perks and the like...wasn't even an option.
It was miserable.
Now, the system means that high MMR people will face other high MMR people and I'll generally face other intermediate types.
Your killer - that was fine. If your other killers struggle, their MMRs will fall.
The system definitely has some idiosyncrasies and needs improving, but honestly - going back to ranks now would probably me just leaving.
I haven't been trying. That is my point. I haven't even been camping. Regardless of what I do it never gets any better which you would know if you took the time to read instead of jumping to conclusion. You can't defend it with your own experience because the MMR is affecting everyone differently. It works for some, not so much for others as evidenced by the forum and on reddit. Many people have admitted to having way calmer games with the old system compared to the new one and many people have expressed their frustration with how they are lower MMR and still matched against people way higher than them

@Crowman said:
I think Tofu is missing the main complaint. Obviously there are killers who just want easy 4Ks just like there are survivor who want easy 4E.
But the way the game state is, you have to sweat if you want a chance to kill a single good survivor. You are going to lose 2-3 gens on your first chase unless you bring certain perks to block gens at the start. You need to kill someone quickly thus forcing you to either tunnel or camp. The fun part of playing killer is going away and that's the issue.
DBD being "balanced" means nothing if people aren't enjoying the game. A ranked mode isn't going to change anything and idk why people think it's a magic solution. People will tryhard in casual queue regardless of the existence of a ranked mode.
This! Thank you for using logic. If there is two modes then what is stopping people from sweating in casual for easy wins? Nothing will change.

Pretty sure they are referring to the VHS Tape add-on. It is an Iridescent for Pig that spawns traps on all survivors heads. However last time I checked it was bugged. Would spawn all the gens at 99 percent done and the second it was finished it insta-killed everyone with a trap on
-
Some people in the game with feign sportsmanship to be a twat. So chances are that is what they think you are doing. If someone says GG but the other person very clearly did not have a good game and got BM'd by the other survivors all game I doubt they are gonna be happily agreeing with you.

At least with the old pip system, blendettes that hid all game never ranked up.
It isn't even that. Yeah it was broken sometimes, but I still got matched better than I do with the current system. Even when it took an average of the ranks I could play and do moderately well. Now if I'm not playing one of the 3 (maybe 4) viable killers in a roster of 25, soon to be 26, to choose from with the best perks and add-ons and sweating my rear end off I get crushed and don't even get a single kill. I keep just not camping like I see everyone else do and try to go after everyone else and every game just has all survivors leaving and the next game never gets any easier.

@Crazewtboy Ya your really right about me holding off on a lot of stuff, but it's not just DBD I have this with, it's even with other games like Team Fortress 2, and even in real life as well as I am a huge Godzilla toy collector, but it's just so hard not to buy an item because of how cool it looks. But ya I do agree with you that I need to really slowdown on a lot of things, so I'm sorry about all that.
It's not me you have to apologize to mate. I was just pointing out how it contradicted your argument and making a recommendation. If you really wanted to apologize, it was your father who spent the 100$. Admitting that you have a problem with collection is the first part, so with enough determination you can definitely cut back. I had the same problem with a few other games but when I started running low on money before I got my paycheck I realized it was time to stop. Happens to the best of us.
-
I agree with a lot of things here, the main ones that I don't agree with are the exclusivity of items and the store prices and I'll explain why.
Item exclusivity is usually because something happened during a set period of time that you missed or for whatever reason weren't able to play during. The reward for players being present playing the game is that item. Is isn't fair in my opinion to give a reward to people who didn't do something to earn it while others worked their asses off and spent some hours earning it. This is why I was so opposed to releasing all of the previous event exclusive items like David's Untamed Donkey Jacket from the Lunar Year event and Kate's shirt and Billy's hammer from the Scorching Summer BBQ event. I spent time to earn that like many others and it feels like a slap in the face to see it just handed out. *Disclaimer: Yes I am aware I had it way before some people and that should be my reward but that isn't how I see things*
The second thing with the store prices. BHVR is a company. They aim to make money like any other company and they do a decent amount of that through their store (seeing as how you can't buy bloodpoints and never should be able to). These prices can be high at times, which is why I don't usually buy outfits. The way you protest prices is by not buying the item so you don't really help by contributing to the sales. Just simply avoid the cosmetics. You say it is an obsession to collect the outfits and that you convinced your dad to drop 100$ on auric cells just so you could get them which by doing so counteracted the whole argument. I'm assuming you are younger judging by how your parents bought it, but something you have to realize with any type of collection/obsession is whether you can financially support it. Judging by the amount of money spent and who had to spend it I think it might be time to cut back (though I can't tell you how to spend money, just a recommendation.) You already admitted that prices are too high for you (and you definitely aren't alone mate), so remember that the next time you want to buy an outfit and hold off. You will probably get a sale eventually.

If you're out of your depth, then either there are just too many good people and not enough low MMR people on at that time (morning games are always a grudge match for me) or you'll eventually hit the sweet spot.
MMR has a weird 'calibration' game every so often where it throws me up against some very strong people.
How many hours have you played, if you don't mind me asking?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2657789#Comment_2657789
Sure. But that's not always the case.
I have plenty games where I'll try to camp the last guy out (when I've secured zero kills) and I get outplayed, they had Unbreakable etc. I don't think the killer can always secure a 1k.
But I do see your point.
Somewhere around 3,000 to 3,500 total. About 1/6th of that time is on my killers
-
As someone who played more survivor than killer, I can say their is no improvement on my killer end. I consistently get matched against a team equivalent of seal team 6 that makes me feel as if I lost before the match even started. As survivor the system doesn't work because if the matches are supposed to be fair why are my idiot teammates getting matched with the sweatiest killers like I am when they obviously weren't ready for that level of play?

-
Is isn't toxic, just like camping or using NOED isn't toxic for killer. You are simply using what is at your disposal. If you got him 3 different times, he is to blame for at least 2 of them. Sure the first time I understand because he wasn't expecting it, but after a killer deals with a flashlight save once, a smart killer will check the area before picking the survivor up next time.
-
As frustrating as it is, the answer shouldn't be to answer the toxicity with more toxicity. The devs check this forum more often than you think. Between that and escape stats I'm sure the Boons will get changed very shortly

-
Doesn't work. Because if a survivor is rushing the hook you aren't supposed to let them grab the person. Then the survivor can sit there while the hook timer is paused because you don't wanna let them unhook
-
I made a thread a while ago about this. It is definitely annoying. Can't play survivor without SWF now. This is why I liked the old system because at least once you got out of white the chances of finding people like that were decreased significantly. Only thing I would say you are wrong about it killers have it bad too. We have to play 5 games against 4 man SWF teams sweating super hard before we get one casual game. That has been my experience at least. All because I can kill 4 people because the chill games I do get have the survivors being idiots

I think the event, while appealing at first, is rather lackluster. Maybe I'm biased because I liked the old events, but this seems meh. We got a re-texture which is cool and all, but the only new thing we got was pumpkins. Boring. Not an interesting objective either. I am disappointed considering this is no other events now because they are supposed to be making this one better.
Side note #1: Your idea the gens should count when everyone does them is a good idea. It used to be like that back in Scorching Summer BBQ and the First Lunar Year event. Definitely liked it better that way and don't know why they removed it.
Side note #2: I liked the events like the last Lunar Year one with the lanterns you had to grab. It made an interesting secondary objective for both sides (similar to the crowns for the anniversary)
Side note #3: The outfits are great, I'm not saying they aren't. I just hate going through some of these challenges to get them when I would much rather do another objective. Mainly for the reason you stated. Not enough spawn and I either don't get to the gens in time or am never close enough to the hooks

Yeah honestly if I was the big map designer dude/dudette I'd probably:
- Remove the guaranteed pallet that spawns in the big machine drop down to make that window a risk/reward
- Add more windows/filler tiles upstairs. Currently only jungle gyms/L Wall T wall tiles can spawn downstairs
- Make only 1 pallet spawn in the surveillance room, it can be one or the other making the room less of a massive time stink for killer
- Leave the 2 pallets by the basement, while they're annoying I think if the basements location is fixed I think those pallets should stay too
- Limit the amount of those god pallets that completely block the killers path
- Make the hook spawns better, they are terrible overalll
- Leave some breakable walls only for the gen doors. The whole deadend thing is part of the maps gimmick and I think its mostly okay.
- Less pallets overall
I like these changes. Definitely is way too many safe pallets on this map. I was playing Freddy and despite by best efforts to pressure gens, every time I tried to chase thinking it would be a quick down they managed to find at least 3-5 more pallets, 80 percent of which were safe with no counterplay for me.
-
@glitchboi said:

-
Every time I offer a solution to this, people get mad at me. But here it goes anyway: get better at running or run perks to counter it. Yeah, getting tunneled is a thing and yeah it applies at all ranks (the camping does inevitably go away the higher rank/MMR you get) because just like the survivors, killers want to win and they can do so by the means they see most effective. If you are hunting survivors and you see a healthy person who can run well, or an injured person who goes down in 15 to 30 seconds, you wouldn't go after the healthy person. You would target the weakest link to eliminate them and start a snowball effect. All of the games I play where somebody dies quickly to tunnelling is because the survivor cannot run the killer. The other alternative is to run something like Decisive Strike or get a friend to run Borrowed Time. If you can run or you have a perk to discourage the killer from tunnelling they will leave you most of the time to seek an easier target.
As far as dying at 5 gens go, I'm gonna regurgitate a flowchart I saw online. Are you being chased? If so, run as long as possible away from generators. If NOT then what are your teammates doing? Being chased/Not on gens? Get on a generator. Unsure? Get on a generator. Working on a gen? Get on a different generator (or look for totems but if you are struggling this much with getting gens done they should be the only focus till you get better at it). Never assume anyone is working on a generator ever.
-
Please don't tell me this damn strategy is coming back. It is gonna be like his release all over again. Just running until you inevitably go down because you can't do ######### to stop it

From my purely anecdotal observations:
- Before the patch, things were mostly good. Some odd matches (either I got put up against a group who had no chance against me, or vice versa) but mostly things felt balanced.
- Post patch, initially my 'mid MMR' killers (those I was somewhat experienced on and probably had a decent middling MMR) still had fair games for a while.
- My 'low MMR' killers (those I was learning) were suddenly getting chimped by incredibly good, sweaty SWF groups, game after game.
- After about a day, all of my matches were either against complete newcomers, ridiculously stacked SWFs or - most frequently - a 1500-3000 hour 3man SWF and a complete newcomer.
This makes me think that smurfing due to the DC penalty removal is the culprit, but I honestly have no idea. I'll check back in in a week or so, and if it's not fixed I'll probably take another year's break.
I read somewhere about a bug that is causing newer, lesser played killers to have only a slightly lower MMR than your best killer so that could explain your issue when trying to learn new killers.

The thing is - MMR was actually working pretty decently before the patch.
I'd get the odd bizarro match from time to time (probably a result of people smurfing down their MMR in SWF groups) but most of them were at least fun, win or lose. The whole point of the MMR system, as stated by the devs, was that people who didn't want to play sweaty would find a spot in the MMR system where they wouldn't need to, and would be up against opponents conducive to this approach.
Now though, things are bonkers. Either high level survivors are using the removed DC penalty to drop their MMR rapidly to crush low-intermediate skill players like myself or the matchmaking system has been secretly disabled for killers (as has happened in the past) or broken. Or perhaps I've chain-lossed myself into a special sort of MMR hell consisting of smurfing SWFs, where losing only makes you more likely to encounter them.
I'm gonna be honest, I didn't play a lot when the MMR first came out on console. So I don't know about what it was like then. But yeah, it is terrible now. I don't think it is smurfing. Something just seems off. Like killer MMR is not dropping the way it should be or SWF isn't being averaged right

The difference is that after you break the NOED it is gone, now the COH can be rebuilt.
True, which I why every time it is snuffed out it should increase the time it takes to replace it. But the logic is still stupid all the same. Obviously if we had the time to do the totems on either side we would. But realistically, a decent amount of matches (at least the ones where you are evenly matched skill wise) you just don't have the time to search the map for totems.
-
We all know the campers are there. We have all seen them. The best thing to do is to get better at hiding/running. Don't be the first caught, then rush the gens while the killer camps. Ultimately they did pay for the game just like you, and as long as they aren't blatantly cheating, they can play how they want regardless of how enjoyable others find it. It sucks, but there is always another game.
-
Is her nerf really that damn brutal? Or are people upset it just takes a little more effort to play her now?
-
Unfortunately with the implementation of cross-play I have been on the receiving end of hackers quite a few times. I know it sucks, but removing the DC penalty and keeping it gone will only make the state of this game work. It was disabled for crashes and I had a DC in 85 percent of my games as both killer and survivor. There needs to be something to discourage people from outright quitting because one thing didn't go there way in a match.
-
Your experience as killer has been all I have experienced as a console player since the mid-chapter went live. Many people are having this issue, and like many pointed out on my rant thread a day or two ago, Dead by Daylight is not able to have an MMR system in its current state. There is too many things wrong balance wise and too many things to take into account for MMR to work nicely.
-
I agree this perk is rather strong, and that it does need a drawback. I can't see a one time use, but maybe make it take progressively longer each time it is kicked out (and max it out at like 1 minute to a minute and a half to bless a dull totem). This would punish the survivor for putting it in a mediocre spot. That being said, something else I feel makes it super strong, is the fact that only one person needs to run it and it gives everyone a free self-care and botany knowledge, circumventing 2 perks.
However, if you are someone who always tells survivors "just do totems" to counter NOED, I offer you the same advice here. Just do the totems.
*note: see how stupid that sounds guys? Obviously if there was time, most people who don't wanna deal with the perk would eliminate the totems. Sometimes you don't have the time. But that doesn't mean some perks can't be made less aggravating in other ways*
-
Unpopular opinion: The devs need to stop siding with one side, and people need to stop encouraging them too. Just because one side has had the upper hand for a bit does not mean it becomes the other side's turn. We need to focus on balancing both. Not alternating power

- You literally have no idea if your MMR is dropping or not. You don't even know what your MMR is.
- If you are "consistently" getting matched to "low MMR" teammates and "high MMR killers" while playing survivor, and getting matched with "high MMR survivors" when playing killer, I think the problem is you just being bad at the game all around.
- If a survivor drops the killer off on you, unless he is running Bond or some other aura detection perk this is almost certainly by accident.
- Camping has always been a problem in DBD. Always has. It has never not been an issue.
- Well who knows teammates are potatoes. I bet you are, too, you just don't realize it.
- I get all the killers, except Freddy and Billy. Both Freddy and Billy are much rarer than Pig and even The Twins these days.
- I have no problems getting kills on any map. I also don't have any problems getting stomped on any map. It depends if I screwed up or if the survivors outplayed me or are better than me.
- I run crap perks on killer because I don't have any good perks. I only have like 8 killers unlocked. Luckily I don't fight good survivors because I suck as a killer.
- I am bad with these two as well, but you can try taping a dot on your screen I hear that helps.
All in all I just see a guy who has been beaten down by the game. I just don't have any of the problems you have, or I don't find them to be an issue, and I quite enjoy playing the game even after thousands of hours.
I know my MMR is dropping based off the win conditions the devs have given me. If I am still being queued with low MMR survivors but high MMR killers, how does that give any indication of my skill? If it was my skill the killer should be low MMR as well. Just because you don't have the issues doesn't mean they don't exist and it isn't an excuse for you to undermine them. Good day.

Circle of Healing seems situational but I quickly see it becoming a killer's recurring nightmare, creating a safe zone for survivors they can move at will and consistently put back up. I do believe that anti-heal perks are even more useless. That being said, were they useful to begin with? Isn't those perks where the whole "Don't heal, just do gens" strategy came from?

Just shrink the maps or change the map generation algorithm to where it's like, survivor team average MMR >= 1800 means 40% less pallets or something. You get what I mean. You also don't wanna just balance around high level play. I know a couple of other games that do that *cough Rainbow Six Siege cough* and it makes it miserable for people who just wanna play for fun.

I think it is just the perk. I'm wondering if, at least for the killer carrying you, the game thinks you are down on the ground since that is what your health state shows, and tries to give the effects anyway. Even though it can't. I can't explain the hook one though. Either way it is incredibly annoying. You're right
