  • I think this is one of the big reasons so many killers run gen slowdowns. We need a basekit slowdown that is much more effective.

I mean it isn't even worth kicking a genny without pop or something. A basic kick only helps the survivors get a head start in chases with very little reward for the killer.

I don't think gen times should be longer, but I do think base gen regression should be stronger.

Bully Squads exist to give killers a justification for tunneling and camping. If the survivors' only goal is to ruin the killer's fun, it invites the killer to play as dirty as they'd like. It's one big mud wrestling battle where all the normal rules go out the window.

So you consider tunneling and camping to be a dirty playstyle?

And on par with with a bully squad?

    I am genuinely curious.

  • Then switch to survivor.

Because that is the constant daily grind of being a high ranked killer. You have tools at your disposal. Strong killers, perks, addons, use them.

And playing, experience, is the only way to get better. You get to the point you are predicting survivors moments better than they are.

  • I know I 4k quite often.

Please, high rank experienced killers, are you guys struggling to 4k? Do you guys, playing however you want, not win more than you lose?

I am really curious. Please tell me your typical game session and how often you feel you lose as a killer.

    1) why do killers hate going against some groups instead of just dealing with it?

    2) Why do some killers love easy matches and fill them with all the toxicity they can, from forcing bleed-outs to kebabing, then go into the post game to shittalk while going on about nerfing this and that and this again? Killer is by design supposed to be harder, shouldn't it actually be hard?

Or, to put it a other way, please don't generalise, ask extremely pointed and biased questions, and add a tag to your post to try to avoid getting called out for it.

    Well said!!!

Look at the field of view. You can see above/around objects that you wouldn't normally be able to see with streched res. So with shorter killers like pig or freddy they may have a mindgame available at some pallets due to them being hidden, but with stretched res you can see them easier.

Its just more information for survivor that makes them much, much harder to mindgame as killer.

Ahhh, makes sense. We don't have that option.

Again dsync, my advice is don't slow vault and try stealth builds. Best chance is not getting caught at all.

Can I ask, what killers are you verseing where "not getting caught at all" is a possibility?

Are you doing gens, saves, totems and not getting caught?

  • Sorry to interject , but as a console player, how does stretched resolution change the game?

  • I have been thinking MMR is secretly on, because many of my games, on both sides, have been very competitive.

  • I don't think anything but cypress mori should be basekit. Part of the chess match is picking your perks and attempting to synergize them with your play style. Or using them to counter others.

If anything, I'd like to see a vanilla play mode.

  • So, If I do 2 gennys. A totem, search a chest. Save 2 people. Heal a few. Have some good chases. And go back and save a guy with BT at EGC and go down to NOED. I should only safety?

    No thanks.

  • Definitely makes me play survivor less frequently. Although as killer the autoaim has been some BS lately. Missing hits , literally turning my character and hitting a pallet or some #########.

Guess it's better than the survivor hits tho.

  • Dude not every SWF is that strong. When I SWF I am drinking. Talking ######### with some friends. I am a much more competitive survivor when I solo. Where I see 4ks about 70% of the time.

So, if you cannot beat our drunk asses, well that may be a git gud problem.

  • My que is actually pretty fast at the moment

  • I lost 3 pips in one game. And gained 4 in another. This ######### is all ######### up.

Dude, most red ranks aren't that good anyway. Unless you play in EU.

Yeah, that is a fair statement. But your odds are better of finding some good ones than green ranks

  • Her Green addons are pretty strong actually. And green rank survivors usually aren't.

But she is definitely one of the stronger killers in the game.

I would wait until you are fighting every game in red ranks before you make your final decision.

  • Longlivmac is my favorite streamer. He is just a chill dude, plays both sides and has a great positive vibe.

I love how engaging he is with his chat and how you feel part of the family when you hang with him.

I like the big names as well, but let's face it, you get lost in the chat. Unless you have been there a long time or give a bunch of money, they hardly notice you.

No , I'll watch @LONGLIVMAC and have some laughs.

Honorable mention, Uncharted and Lexicat, they also have great chats

Well if we look at the ancient World of Warcraft, that game for as old as it is still going strong.

No Doubts. It could go a long while. It has to either keep a long term players. Or constantly be bringing in newer ones to replace those that left.

Judging solely off the forums. There is a mix of both. But, you do see a lot of people leaving the forums never to return. As well a lot of new accounts.

    But, inevitably, everythings eventual

  • This is something I hope we all are working on as humans. I recommend playing both sides, so you can have empathy and understanding of certain tactics and why they may have been used in that moment.

Try to come up with a definition of a win that you can live with. If it is only 4ks, you are bound to be disappointed from time to time. Remembering that these are humans you are verseing may help you not be so tilted.

I also recommend yoga and meditation in your life. It does help balance you, even just 10 minutes a day.

Lastly remember, you are a unique person that has tremendous value in this world. So are your competitors. Relax, breathe, try your best and have fun. It is always the journey, not the destination.

  • Don't forget these guys are probably burnt out anyway with how much time they have in game.

I am still dealing with it. Some hits suck ass but it is still the only game I play.

As far as a downfall. Streamers have to always be trying to find the next game. And try to get their audience's interest. It is their job and all games eventually die.

There is also gen kick, where your action is locked because survivors are working on gen. But some capacity I think there is difference, because when you close the hatch you interact with the hatch not with the survivor. Also when you pick a survivor from the ground you don't interact with other survivors, also the survivor who is on the ground is not doing anything since he can't recover while he is getting healed so he is just laying down. There is no reason why a survivor who is going under heal should be locked.

He is not locked. The action is because you first must interrupt the healing action which began before you attempted the pickup. As you were on cooldown.

It is BS tho, but only really matters at that exact moment in the gates. Other than that you would just hit the healer and do the pickup.

  • It's called the heal tech. I guess like killer has priority with the hatch. Survivors get it to heal.

U have to interrupt the action. Like. hitting a survivor sabotaging a hook, why does that stop the action. You should still get to continue sabotaging. But it gets interrupted with the hit. So it goes both ways.

In fairness, I do kill plenty of SWF; I pride myself on it. But I would be lying if I said it was all my personal skill. I have adapted to a SWF Meta. I don't just play Spooky Myers (Cracked Mirror + Boyfriend's Memo) because it is my favorite (although it is). I play him because he is the most effective build I have against a SWF. They thrive on information and coordination. Any Killer which denies them info (while providing me lots) allows me to turn what is normally their strength against them. The current (broken) version of OoO is largely pointless against a Spooky Myers. In fact, it tends to just help me. Keys loaded up with the ability to track the Killer's aura are rendered useless. No Terror radius makes it harder for them to triangulate my position on the map by passing info back and forth to each other. Borrowed Time doesn't activate against a Spooky Myers, and on and on. You get the idea.

My point is I do like Myers; I really like the Spooky Myers. I continue to play him most because he is my best answer to SWF. You and I don't disagree on all that much. I like most of your posts too. We just disagree on this notion of a code. Even Otz (just the other day in a video I watched) kind of laughed to himself as he found he tunneled. He said, "I guess it is just in my DNA." Most of the big Streamers will CHALLENGE themselves because they are THAT good. But even they have a hard time adhering to that ridiculous standard (and often fail). Remember, I watch them all too trying to get THAT good myself. :) Expecting non-Superstars to abide by a losing strategy is unrealistic. Killers adapt to Survivors, and vice versa. If (and remember I don't agree that tunneling is any more common now than before) the new Meta is tunneling, it is because the Killers are being driven to it. There aren't suddenly more "jerks" than there were "back in the day."

I certainly agree that killers have been driven to tunneling. And perhaps, code, is too strong of a word. It's more a decision to play a certain way aware that your win definition may need to change.

I also enjoy your posts. You are one of those forum mates that make me evaluate my positions and consider other perspectives.

I am trying to redefine what a win is to me. And attempt to play this game with a little less ego and more empathy. It took a long journey through every aspect of this game to reach this point.

Maybe I'm an idealist, maybe I'll return to my former cutthroat playstyle, or maybe I'll truly learn to just have fun with this game.

In either case, the recent influx of positive messages has been nice.

I kill who I see, often times that means tunneling the weakest link. If I see someone got unhooked and the person I just had on the hook is the easiest target I'm going for it. This leads to a lot of tunneling from me. I feel badly, but hey if they didn't want to get tunneled they shouldn't be the most obvious target.

Like being chased by a bear with a friend, "I don't need to outrun the bear, I need to outrun you."

Why do something you feel bad about?

  • @Moundshroud said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1950577#Comment_1950577

I simply have not experienced anything to convince me that it is any more common now than it was last year. It feels exactly the SAME to me. I play almost all Solo when I'm a Survivor so I have a pretty good feel for all the ups and downs. However, for the sake of fairness, I will play Devil's Advocate and address tunneling as if it is the new Meta. I would argue, if that was the case, that it is more directly related to the ever increasing regularity (and potency) of the SWF and their 5th Perk (Comms). That nonsense about a "code" is just that, nonsense. I've listened to (and know personally) several "old school" Players, and they tell me that things used to be worse for Killers (far worse) and they played a LOT dirtier to compensate.

The simple truth is that Killers and Survivors adapt to one another. There are more SWF now and they benefit from a huge information advantage and coordination. The Mori no longer exists in its previous form. The only way to take the game rapidly from a 4v1 to a 3v1 is to tunnel someone out early if possible. Against a coordinated SWF, the loss of one person early is 75% MORE effective as it is against Solo. So, do I think there are Killers who will take a game for a 4v1 to a 3v1 as rapidly as they can? Yes. Do I think it is any more common than it was before? Possibly but I am not privy to the stats nor have I felt that myself. *But again, I'm playing Solo.

I don't want to hear any nonsense about a "code" back in the day. Things were HARDER (way harder) on Killers way back in the day. It wasn't a code that kept them in check, it was that the game was stacked against them. The DEV have slowly but surely tried to balance it so that they maintain ENOUGH Killers to keep the game going. It is always a tightrope they have to walk, i.e. a "rough" balance because DbD doesn't work without both Killers AND Survivors. There are no Bots. If you want Killers to not feel like they need to "go for the throat" as early in the game as possible, deal with the SWF issue. There is NO HONOR in playing in a SWF, and it is the height of hypocrisy to complain about Killers adapting their tactics to deal with them.

Look, I get what you are saying. But to pretend this code doesn't exist is nonsense. If it didn't, then why do so many streamers attempt to adhere to it?

And killer has definitely improved, and is the easiest it has ever been. I have played since 2017 and have used every tactic in the book. I am not judging, just stating an observation based off of 4 years playing this game.

Sorry but the SWF issue is not going away. People want to play with their friends and most are not even that good. I know you slaughter plenty of half assed SWFs. The optimal ones are maybe 1 or 2 in ten. And I'd counter that 4 optimal solos are just as formidable.

And tunneling as the new meta is not an insult. I support everyone's right to play how they want. And I agree it is in response to no heal gen rush meta that is now.

But if we could all remove a bit of ego from our gameplay, perhaps we could make this game a bit more fun. Admittedly it took me over 3 years to reach this mindset.

  • Tunneling is the new Meta. People have learned it is an effective strategy for winning. And, there was a code in the early days that it was kinda a BS move.

But, everyone calls this the survivor rulebook and argues it should be completely ignored. But people forget many old school killers enjoyed the challenge of playing within a certain respect to the sportsmanship of it.

But, the reality is, it is an ego driven tactic. The fear of losing, the desire to feed their ego another 4k supercedes any empathy towards their opponents.

And many survivor players breed this mindset in killers by tbagging at the gates and sending ######### messages when they are learning as killer or just losing.

Good for you, be sure to write that into your diary.

Getting it from the shrine doesn't guarantee you stridor for anyone apart from nurse.

Oh, I guess people who don't waste thousands of hours in the game or people who don't religiously play a single killer shouldn't be allowed to do challenges then.

    OK.

I guess the only logical reply to this drivel is.....

    Git Gud!!

  • Dude, I did all the killer challenges in one day.

    Stridor is in the shrine.

Are you newer? Stridor will show up as soon as you fill out a new bloodweb if you have all perks unlocked on at least one killer

Can I just point out that the only things you by name called not toxic are the things survivors do.... It's not about what you may or may not consider toxic, it's about why the people who call one thing toxic, but defend another toxic thing, are so vocal versus most people who just roll with the punches.

You are wrong. I said none of OPs examples are toxic. Which included , their words, camping and tunneling.

Nothing anybody does in game is toxic to me. Including hitting a guy on the hook, killer strategies, survivor silliness. It's a game and people take it too seriously.

Don't cheat, and don't message stupid #########. Then play how you would want to verse and enjoy the game.

  • Sorry but NONE of the examples you gave are toxic.

Are they sportsman like. Probably not. Are they all fun to face. No. Are they toxic? Absolutely not.

Really the only toxic thing in the game, is being ignorant in post game chat.

Maybe the tbag at the exit gates, but if someone spikes a football after a touchdown, is that not similar? Is a spike toxic?

Toxic and entitled are overused terms with no meaning left in this game.

  • What is the point 👉 of this thread?

  • I agree @darktrix .

I run it just so the killer has to think twice, by making sure I always have an obsession in every game.

  • @Alice_pbg said:

    correct.

but the killer wastes valuable time. time that your team should be using to fix gens.

tunneling only works if you do it fast. if you waste too long on a single survivor, everyone else will be out in 5 min.

Agree, but that is if the tunneled one can loop. If they go down fast, and you are not in a swf, well you may be lucky to finish a gen or two.

Especially with some of the fast unsafe no BT hook rescues done in solo q.

  • It's debatable if it has value now with how unreliable it is.

But any major changes to the design of this perk will make it useless.

  • @AsherFrost said:

There is a good anti-tunnel perk already. It's called Decisive Strike, and is a teachable from Laurie Straud (may have the spelling wrong) if you haven't already, I would suggest picking up the Halloween chapter to get her (also Myers, who is a fun killer to play)

It's an okay perk, but unless it's EGC with open doors. A killer just resumes tunneling you after 5 seconds.

  • @eff said:

Not this community giving a bad name to a sane strategy of someone whose main goal is to kill survivors and prevent them from winning.

I hear you. And I support everyone's right to play as they want.

But, can we say this is the most fun style of killer to face? And at what point in your DBD career do you decide playing for fun is more engaging then tunneling for the 4k.

Admittedly, it took over 3 years for me to stop sweating so much, and sometimes I still want to.

But, that is all ego. I am now avoiding tunneling at all costs. Even my precious 4k.

"Survivors playing optimally do not need coms, they know what to do."

I think this is a key takaway as well. Note the word "optimally", not even skilled.

You can lose many matches that you were never outplayed per say, but simply because they know efficiency. IE spread out and holding m1 without wasting time. These teams know the real weakness for killers is the disparity in objective time.

The average survivors biggest flaw isn't even their looping, it's that they waste time.

    Well said, so true!!

  • @Blueberry said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1940837#Comment_1940837

Four good solo's still has the advantage quite significantly over an equally skilled killer. I run solo 99% of the time and I am still definitely the power role.

Yeah I can get potatoes a lot, but if you're skilled enough you can carry a lot of them. You'll at the very least play well enough to pip which means you'll be slowly ranking up and increasing the likelihood of getting good teammates.

I agree with this, 4 optimal solos are just as strong as an optimal SWF. Survivors playing optimally do not need coms, they know what to do.

Now SWF can boost a team above their individual skill levels, however it will not turn regular casual survivors into optimal survivors. To me SWF is not as strong as some make it out to be. It is an advantage, but it also what keeps the game competitive. 4 casual randos will often get destroyed and play quite selfishly, which is why many regular players prefer to SWF.

  • Hitboxes are suspect as well, so we really aren't sure which one is actually causing the problem yet.

  • Of all the things we have been discussing recently, I forgot about my disdain for breakable walls.

I agree with you OP, I hate these damn walls. Just let me load into the game and start playing and dealing with the map I have. I don't need the extra objectives.

  • Almost Borderline Unplayable?

    So you're saying there's a chance!!!!

there's no word on that, though I'm intrigued by your hatred of it. It's not really that big a deal. you get blood points for a rank range and it resets, also that's the way it was when the game first came out minus the blood points.

    I didn't say I hate it. I just swear a lot.
