People hate map offerings because they allow one side to stack the game in their favour before it's even began
Burning offerings for a survivor sided or killer sided map puts that side in a bad position and sours the match. If I'm playing a weaker killer and the survivors decide it's time for Eyrie of crows, you shouldn't be surprised that I'm annoyed by it
And contrary wise when I'm playing solo Q I don't appreciate the Nurse and Blight mains burning macmillan and midwich constantly either.
-
2 of my worries:
BBQ being changed when IMHO it's completely fine
NOED wasn't mentioned in the list of perks that are constantly seen (despite it being one of the most popular perks pick rate wise).

I doubt the monster thing due to how rough the zombies ai are for Nemesis but cameras seem interesting. Also doesn't Wesker throw a missile in umvc3?
He does! But that's actually based on his boss fight from RE5
I think either Chris tries to shoot him with a rocket and Wesker catches it and throws it back or something along those lines
-
@RenRen said:
I wonder what Wesker's power would even be. All I remember is he has tentacles and a gun but I don't think they'll do another tentacle cause nemesis but I don't think they'll do a gun.
Look at his moveset in games like Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
He has stuff like super strength & speed, teleporting and that's just him personally - it's entirely possible he has another gimmick alongside that. Maybe cameras like in the teaser trailer or maybe some one of the biohazard creatures. In Code Veronica he unleashes monsters to hunt down Chris and Claire for example

But will it work with Pentimento? That sounds kinda busted
Pentimento specifically states in its text "Totems that are cleansed"
Shattered hope implies they are "destroyed" which might mean consumed by the entity?

We wanted to keep the choice for folks who like the time wasting aspect of boons. If you'd rather snuff them and force Survivors to re-bless the totem, you can. Otherwise, you can toss this on and destroy the totem outright.
Very smart design decision, having it be basekit would've also stopped people from using certain killer perks that rely on dull totems
Namely Plaything and NOED

idk, do you think BHVR would really want to partner with them again after they put them in the difficult spot of having to tell their community:
"Hey you know this content? We're sorry but we have to remove it."
Thankfully people who bought it could still keep it but It sucks to say I can't see BHVR wanting to work with Netflix again after that. Who knows tho, money talks. There's clearly a demand for it.
I'd love to see it happen bc Stranger Things became part of DBD in a weird way. The game feels like it's missing apart of itself as stupid as that sounds.

Hag is definitely bugged. You hear the audio of her traps going off no matter where you are in the map. It sounds somewhat muffled when it isn't you but still gives me a heart attack each time I hear it go off🤪
You can also hear Clown bottles map wide as well
Constant glass shattering noises lol
-
The most logical explanations I've heard so far are either:
1) It's something to do with them changing how updates/downloads are applied. They made it so downloading updates doesn't take as long like it did before. I def noticed it with the latest hotfixes, they were applied much faster than a couple of months ago
2) An engine update of some kind might've also broken a bunch of stuff
-
Honestly not just that
People are DCing way more often than they used to as well, you notice the influx of 'increase DC penalties' threads and such?
Wonder what's going on, it couldn't be the MMR changes could it? It's the only thing that's really changed. That and Legion buff but it's not people DCing against just Legion

Hag
-One of the Oldest Killers in the game who hasnt gotten any changes for a very long time
-Her Kit counterplay is not something that is not that skillfull & relies more on luck(EX: Urban Evasion or bringing/Finding a Flashlight).
-From the few times i played against her it was normally an unfun experience because Looping(the skillful thing for survivor in my opinion) doesnt happen that much when you play against a Hag who knows how to play her.
Clown
-His Kit is purely based on Chasing but has a very lack luster chase power. His Speed Bottle is very situational & slow downs are easily counterwd by droping pallets early & he has nothing to help against. My experience playing as & against the is not enjoyable
I had an idea for Clown rework & so far people seem to like,if you want o check it heres the link
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/232265/clown-rework#latest
Actually there is skillful Hag counterplay
It's called disrupting her web of traps/not giving her a chance to set up. No traps = No easy downs
No easy downs = No hooks to camp.
-
Jokes on you
I'm gonna let the survivors win to inflate escape rates so killers get buffed even more! Then we'll be unstoppable...
Has to be someone out there who actually thinks this/does this right?
-
Let's put it this way
If Oni had his power at the start of the game and/or it never ran out
He would probably be S tier.
Mobility with strafing and no bumping penalties, instadown capabilities and pallet shredding all bundled into one
It's a good thing his power is both limited and has to be earned.

Fair point, I've definitely had games like that too. But I find those less common than what I mentioned before.
I'm sure it's different for everyone of course
I go by the criteria that a 3k is essentially a win, mostly because final survivor endgame is a snoozefest and I'd rather just let us all get onto the next game.
You are 100% right though, as Killer it does always feel like the odds are stacked against you. That's why a lot of people like killers such as Nurse and Blight because they give you much more control of a match if you are good enough. It takes a lot for, let's say, a good Trapper to feel in control of the match but not as much for a Nurse/Blight that is good.
-
@xTalon32 said:
Because as survivor you don't have to survive to "win". You just need to help at least some of your team get out, and that FEELS GOOD.
As killer, the game is now against you, and you have to work hard for your hooks. Only to have 2 or 3 survivors get out. It doesn't feel good because your goal is to kill EVERYONE (regardless of what others say). Anything less than a 4K feels like a loss.
I dunno, I'd argue part of it is down to your own personal standards and criteria
I've had games where I 4ked but I still felt crappy about it - mostly because I don't think I won on my own merits but rather the mistakes of the survivor team.
And on the otherside I've had really good games where I felt I played well and only got a 2k out of it but I was satisfied because I felt like I earned those 2 kills through skillful use of a power or perks for example.
-
Compare base trapper to trapper bag trapper
Base trapper has parts of his power that in a lot of cases might never ever be used because taking the time to wander over and pick up your power costs too much time
Trapper Bag gives you all your traps at the start, at the (arguably neglible) downside of not being able to move traps once they are set.
The purple bag addon unlocks so much potential, it's a shame they had to give it a downside at all - probably because they were worried everyone would run it constantly or something
-
It has a lot to do with two things: Agency and Environment
When you lose, in the moment it can genuinely feel like you had no chance - that your chances of winning were doomed from the start or something particular happened in the match that cemented this loss of agency. It could be something as simple as a survivor using DH or a killer hitting you with noed. Sure you can argue that oh but you can do xyz but in that very moment, it does feel like you're hit with something that you couldn't do anything about.
On reflection, there is typically always SOMETHING you could've done. Even if it's something as simple as 'Shouldn't have gotten caught' or 'Should've tunnelled a dude out'.
Now the other part is DBD's environment, or rather how the hostilities between players of both roles of the game form.
Whenever you see a survivor being annoying, be it clicking, tbagging and so on - for a lot of people it's like this switch gets flicked and it's taken personally, like that particular survivor is out to ruin your fun. This goes for killer as well, if a killer starts tunnelling some dude a lot of people take it personally and think the killer is doing it to spite them.
The word 'toxicity' has lost all meaning and I think we should really refrain from using it to describe actual game mechanics and behaviours for the most part. The stuff people spew in the EGC is fair game though.
I also think people need to let go of the negative connotations people associate with tactics and strats in the game. Tunnelling & Camping are the main two that come to mind. Some people genuinely go out of their way to do these things out of spite or for reactions but it's not inherent to the tactics themselves if you see what I mean.
I've tunnelled and camped as killer before, did I do it because I hated my opponents and wished them a bad time? No, majority of the time I just think it's my path to winning.
One final point, the reason I think we might hate losing so much in DBD is because when we win, we essentially avoid any sense of bad sportsmanship we might have seen if we lost. Only a small factor though, but it just occured to me that you can't be bmed/tbagged in the exit gate if you don't lose for example.

Random ideas:
A score event for stalking survivors working on generators (Kinda like how Ghostface has 2 - one for normal stalking and one for lean stalking)
A score event for downing a survivor with Tier 3
A score event for getting a grab in Tier 1
-
I had some pretty good games last night as well, it was really refreshing
-
They should make it play globally whenever Myers nearly has T3 or something

Anything less than a knee-jerk reaction of unbridled enthusiasm is a grave travesty and deeply indicative of wrongthink. Let's be honest here, this is more about controlling thoughts and words for the sake of changing voting demographics.
what does that even mean
I've read your post about 3 times now and I can't tell what you're trying to say
-
I guess some people need an outlet for all their negative energy. It must be quite tiring
I've been very critical of BHVR in the past and I still am in a bunch of ways but I think some of the OP post and quite a bit of the comments made here are just kinda pathetic
I hate to say it, but it's just a video game made by other human beings.
If you think BHVR is so dreadful for doing XYZ stop giving them your money, or hell stop playing the game altogether - it seems like some people have actually went through with this considering how many people won't stop going on about steamcharts.

No I don’t think so. I think it was just an unintentional mistake/bug for the texture to be missing and it probably wasn’t even noticed by the devs/license holders. It got approved, added to the game and that’s it. After that they needed when it actually got reported and brought to the devs attention, I think it was not_queen who said in a stream that they need to fix this but they were not able to without approval by the license holder
Yeah makes sense, totally agree

This is true. This is why individual action to those doing it, backed up by proof that their intent was racially motivated, was the better approach in my opinion. The people who were opposed to these cosmetics being removed had valid points as to why they thought this was a bad idea.
Yeah I mean it's always sad to see content be removed from the game, we lost the Dwight, Meg and Jake masks too.
But BHVR made a call and I don't really disagree with them, no matter what they did people would've complained so they might as well just put a final stop to the whole thing
-
@Mooks said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2951426#Comment_2951426
Except that the cosmetic actually had darker skin (due to missing textures) under the mask, thus actually making it Black Face and therefore was problematic and at least needed fixing. BHVR and the license holder obviously decided it was best to remove the cosmetics.
and it happened often enough to be a problem. several streamers reported this and, you know, having it literally in live streams happening…
So do you think BHVR is racist for creating the cosmetic and keeping it in the game for such a long time then? Genuine question
@KateMain86 said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2951447#Comment_2951447
Yea if you see a clip of it happening on a stream its going to resonate more than say someone playing the game for over 2000 hours and never seeing it happen at all, like me. Also I don't understand what you mean when you said the cosmetic had darker skin making it black face. Which one are you referring to? Claudette's? Well she is black right? I don't see how a fictional character who wears the face of his victims is doing "black face" by wearing the face of one of his victims. This seems a bit unreasonable to me.
Bubba might be a fictional character but the actions of the people playing him aren't. That's the whole point, if all Bubbas were NPCs then I don't think people would have been impacted the way they were.
-
In general I've seen less toxic and/or facecamping bubbas than I did around that time
Anyone else have the same experience?
-
DS is only a minute long if you down them instantly off the hook, tunnel them or if they do nothing for a minute
A DS could literally last 5 seconds if the survivor gets straight back to doing objectives or begins healing themselves
-
I made a bug report abt this as well
I don't think it's cheating

Description: Played a game against a Cannibal who had the perk 'Knockout' which it's description reads: "Survivors put into the dying state by basic attacks aren't revealed" however during this match I noticed that whenever anybody got downed with the chainsaw, their aura was hidden.
He was running no addons, which means this shouldn't have occured
Steps to reproduce:
Try using Knockout with Cannibal's Chainsaw and see if the auras are hidden. I don't know if it's a bubba specific bug or if it's all killers
How often: N/A

In the UK we have a term of phrase where if someone is 'Dead hard' they are considered to be somebody you wouldn't want to mess with, a 'Tough guy' so to speak.

I mean I've watched top streamers like otz dowsey hell even survivor mains like ayrun say they are lucky killer can make multiple mistakes. Im talking more about in chase than the whole game. But 1 misplay by a survivor around a loop and means 100% they are going down vs where a killer can make a misjudgment on a loop and still get back in chase.
Yeah but think about it
Due to the 4 v 1 nature of the game, 1 killer mistake is worth so much more than 1 survivor mistake time wise.
In fact one of the most common killer mistakes that gets made is over committing to somebody you just can't catch, that is a game ending mistake for many killers

You can't deny this. But tbh this is how it should be. You should treat your employees like that. The people that make the Music, Graphics, Maps, Characters and Cosmetics for example are extremely talented.
Honestly despite many of the games flaws, be it the new ones that come up or old ones that haven't been addressed yet - a lot of the more recent work is still quite incredibly well made - it's usually balance where issues arise but that's a tricky thing in a live service game I'm sure.
Even still I'm always finding random things to appreciate about the game. Whoever composes the music for BHVR is doing god's work. I cannot praise them enough

honestly the horror stories i've heard
some ppl apparently had to go into therapy while working on Mortal Kombat 11/Last of Us 2 bc they had to watch real gore videos to 'get it right'. Not sure if it was mandated, I hope not but that bothers me on so many levels lol

Please read before you make fun of me.
I feel like BHVR had new devs who are in charge over what happens with the game. I've had this feeling after the RE chapter and I'm still thinking about this sometimes. Just think about everything that happened after the RE chapter: SBMM was added, Cheaters and Bots have been a huge issue(It has never been this bad), Optimization has been really really bad and the game has lost an insane amount of players in a short period of time. It makes me worried, it feels like someone at BHVR is trying to kill this game. Why? Maybe they work for another company and try to eliminate any competition. Anyone else felt like this or am i just going crazy?😅
Also on the topic of this thread, while I don't think it's happening 1 recent occurence has bothered me greatly
I'm sure you're all aware of what I'm talking about if you follow dbd content creators/twitters and so on. How something like that happens in the first place baffles me but the fact that something many of us were looking forward to was prematurely spoiled ahead of time does make me wonder.
it happens all over the industry but this is the first time in a while it's happened with BHVR

BHVR is run like any other company. Quarterly profits first, long-term health a distance second. Knowing what needs to be addressed is easy. Getting higher ups to approve it is another thing entirely.
At least they treat their employees well from what I hear
No crunch culture and they get weekends off, for a game studio these days that's quite a feat given the rest of the industry
-
Even if you did tunnel, it's not a crime lol. Tunnelling is a strat, not a crime
If someone in the EGC complains that I tunnelled or camped I just go "yeah, and?"
There are playstyles in this game that are kinda scummy and I dislike them but some ppl act like it's a crime or something. They think it's a sick burn if they say you camped or tunnelled (even tho half the time you did neither and they don't know what those words mean)

I'm pretty sure Blight is the more logical comparison. Not only has he been both a Survivor and a Killer - he's canonically one of the few characters who managed to escape the entity if I'm not mistaken [?].

idk it's not about finding it funny, like there's humour to be had.
I remember when the whole jflick situation happened, some people def overreacted and threw a bit of a tantrum over it but at the same time I don't think it's a good idea to further wind those ppl up bc otherwise they're never gonna change their perspective

Its mostly false hope :(
I think it'd be really bad if a Community Manager/Community coordinator made official statements that were contradictory to the devs/companies plans. It's kinda their job to act as the middleman between devs/company and community.
If it were the personal opinion of the CM then It'd make more sense to say it's just the opinion of an individual.
Not trying to take hope away from you or anything tho.
