@Avocet yes grind will be so much longer also how will u get all 5 outfits in short time event on, bet they make they make premium version of the pass net you probably like double/triple the needed serums 😑😑 give us money is all im seeing i dislike battle passes they should only be for ftp games not a paid game which already has overpriced outfits just my imo, the future of this game looking bleaker but when u have dev who only see $$ signs and a bad communication with players base not much u can do
Yeah, I'm not trilled about the battle pass either.
They said you can get enough serum to get 6 cosmetic pieces or 2 full outfits. And while there will be no serum in the Premium track, there will be an option to buy tiers with money:
We know not everyone has time to play as much as they would like to, and some players will arrive later during an active Rift. For these players, we have added the choice to Unlock Tiers for 100 Auric Cells each, if they already own The Rift Pass.

@Grimbergoth thanks that was pretty good explanation, i really do not like this, this mean there will be challenges like i.e trap a survivor with trapper or something like that what if u dont play a killer that u need a challenge on ? How will that work
From what I've seen on the PTB so far there aren't specific killer challenges on the main pathway from start node to end node in the Tome web. There was one for a specific survivor (Claudette) but there was an alternate path. If you want to get all possible fragments / points from that tome though, specific killer and survivor challenges are unavoidable :S

@DevourOfSalt said:
So from this post im getting we cant earn these outfit from hook/gen, we have to get serum from something called the rift ??? And ######### is this rift ?
Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught and killed.I agree it's a quite a short time window to grind for the outfits. I think I'll even miss part of the event :S
Regarding how to get putrid serum, from what I understand you will get it only from the Free track of the Rift / battle pass and to tier up in that track you need Rift fragments. Those you get from completing the new challenges in the Tome and from playing the game normally (like Iridescent Shards). I would like to know how many fragments we would be getting from normal play and in how far this could compensate for the short duration of the event.
A Rift Fragment is a reward currency the player collects that earns them progress in The Rift. Rift Fragments can be earned by doing the below:
Completing Challenges in the current Tome
Playing the game
-
People are missing the opportunity cost of completing the Rift / battle pass. They see the Premium costs only $10 (1000 auric cells) and get excited. But BHVR themselves have said the rewards from Free and Premium tracks are worth over 20 000 auric cells, i.e. $200.
The battle pass is supposed to be a monetization system, right? How does it make sense for BHVR to charge us only $10 (which you can earn back) and yet provide as $200 of value? The missing commodity here is time. To BHVR our time to complete the battle pass is worth $190 per person, more if we consider they're supposed to make a profit off it.
Yet people put absolutely no value on their time when they say the battle pass is free or only $10. They're only thinking about the money leaving their account.

Don't worry, you're not the only one who doesn't like it, but I hope that it's just weird on paper, and that in the game it will be easy to understand.
But hey, we can only hope.
You can see it in action on the PTB if you're on PC. I think it's pretty intuitive once you get the chance to click around a bit. What could cause frustration for some people is that you need to activate the challenge before you can get progress towards it. Therefore you won't be able to complete several at once as with the dailies for example.

There's cosmetics in the free portion of the battle pass.
You get all the previous tiers of the premium tier after you buy the premium track. You can go all the way through in the free track, and at the end, you can buy the premium option for 1,000 cells, get all the rewards, including your 1,000 cells back.
Dunno about you, but if I spend 1,000 of a currency, and then get 1,000 of said currency back, I consider that "Free".
It is not free because you need an initial investment of $10 to get 1000 auric cells. Yes, you can get your auric cells back if you complete the track but those $10 will never re-enter your wallet again. You can only use them on something in DbD now. If the price of the Premium track doesn't change, these $10 could last you forever but that just means that the Premium track cost over several installments is $10+. Not free.
If you already have enough auric cells to pay for the Premium track, that means you've paid in advance, not that it's free.

Right now nobody really knows how this will work. If you can buy tiers in the free track...

There are people who main Hag. She just needs a time investment and the right mindset. I'm still learning her but she is my main killer.
I want to grow up to be like him though:
Hag Main Extraordinaire of Dead by Daylight. I'll be covering other games I'm interested in playing as well. I'm currently very interested in Pantheon: Rise ...The disadvantage of trying to learn Hag is that now when I play against some Hags or watch some popular Twitch streamers play Hag, it makes me cringe XD. I went from "Please, streamer, play Hag" to "Please play anything else".
-
Forgot to mention that there are pallets at almost every corner (or that's what it feels like) and a ton of jumping locations for Balanced Landing. From my experience it is a rather noisy map too so it will take a while to learn to filter the ambient noises outs.
-
Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding. I personally don't hate it, I was just clarifying what Rydog meant.
To me the new map was very confusing at first. Then I went into a custom game and took the time to make a sketch of the map. That made it much easier to find my way around. I still find it hard to tell where exactly I am just from looking at my surroundings, however. There are some landmarks but the long corridors with the rooms in the middle are mostly uniform or randomly generated. What's always in the same place seem to be the doors, the staircases and the room with the rift. But they are all at the edges of the map and you could get lost in the middle. I suppose it will get better as we get used to the map.
And of course, depending on which killer you're using the map can be very hard to play on. Getting survivors off the generator in the rift room is tricky unless you're Freddy or Hag, for example. They can see you coming a mile away and just jump down through the glass ceiling.
-
I hope it's later in the month or I'll miss a good part of it :/
-
For real? I only played survivor tonight and was wondering why it went so well.
-
Some people hate the new map.
-
BHVR didn't mention anything about including it in game yet.

Some people just want to complain. If you're not a killer they can bully, they'll complain. Play as you like and ignore them. They hate that the most.

It's why they said they're TESTING them.
The fact that this instant gratification comment got 18 likes and the actual post about offering feedback got 1/2 says a LOT about the community.
I'm not even going to comment on you bringing up people's relationship status in a gaming discussion.
Testing should be done on the test build aka PTB where people won't be wasting their offerings, add-ons and items because of bugs or unplayability.

I'm on the East Coast but sometimes my ping to the server as killer is 50 ms and sometimes 130 ms. There's only one server for East Coast if I remember correctly (can't find the info thread now). Is my game trying to connected to a different server and that's why it's getting the higher ping? I got matched with players from Germany at some point.
Edit:
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to see which server you're connected to?

@NMCKE Regarding participation, what are your thoughts on my comment?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/730745/#Comment_730745
-
The developers need everyone to participate, this is a team effort. There's a reason why they told us it's our game, not their game. :)
If that were true and they wanted our feedback about the dedicated servers on the live build, why wasn't the release properly announced in game? I hadn't taken part in the PTB so it took me a while to realize what was going on. If I knew, I could have properly documented and reported the issues I encountered.

My JOB as a consumer is to enjoy the game in my free time! I'm not slave labor. They can use the perfectly good money we pay them to pay people to test their stuff.
Or at least make the base game free and market it on PC as beta as other games (e.g. Warframe) have done.
-
I just hope they'll never really release the dedicated servers like that. It will completely destroy the game. Please cancel them or fix them, I don't care. But in the current state, it is not really playable anymore.
They have practically released them and without warning. It feels like they were afraid of the community outcry if they announced it beforehand.

I just had a weird new experience with the dedicated servers. The match starts, I wound 2 people as the killer, survivors have already started repairing the gens and then suddenly the match is cancelled because a player disconnected while loading. It sure took the server some time to notice...
-
Yeah, I log in on PC today, see the announcement for the new Ash outfit and then get to the killer lobby and it looks different. Then the response times in the match feel different. Quite a surprise.

From their September Developer Update that was published at 10am ET on Oct 02:

They are live on PC apparently. I was surprised too.

Ok, I'll be more specific then and do this with quotes.
1. "Where did I DEMAND killers give me special treatment so I can have fun?"
Let's look at this statement:
"I still dont feel I should be punished for wanting to play with friends. Going against rank 1 killers isn't fun with less than 20 hrs. in the game. Not sure killing me is quite a challenge for them either, I guess people aren't interested in challenges anymore. They want an easy win."
Also:
" I dont feel its fair for me, as a new survivor to be punished by red ranked spirits who leave everyone on the ground simply because i want to play and learn from my friends"
You CHOSE to play against rank 1 killers as a beginner. You CHOSE a CHALLENGE but then you don't want the logical consequences of this choice. The killer didn't choose to play against a beginner survivor and is probably playing normally. That's what I call demanding special treatment.
2. "Also I said in a previous post "I will take the advice and try to get better, thank you for the suggestions""
You did say that. You also continued complaining about the same stuff like you never got any advice or suggestions.
From beginning of the thread:
"I actually wish I could refund the game because if I get punished for playing with my friends so I can learn"
"But isnt forcing baby survivors like me to go against higher skilled killers the same thing? I mean people shouldnt be punished for wanting to play with their friends or am I completely off?"
After thanking for advice and suggestions:
"I dont feel its fair for me, as a new survivor to be punished by red ranked spirits who leave everyone on the ground simply because i want to play and learn from my friends. I also dont think killers should get bullied."
3. "Sitting in custom games all night isn't fun for anyone and I can't earn blood points so I never level up and i'm still SOL."
Fair enough.
P.S. I'm glad you're improving. Sorry for the tough love.

As I stated before, with the few hours I have in the game and looking at other posts and watching a handful of twitch streams i have come to the conclusion that no one cares if anyone else is having fun. One streamer said "I paid for the game and I will face camp because im having fun, i dont care about the survivor on the hook". So while you may say it's wrong, for me and for my friends wanting to play together, it makes sense. Those rank 1 killers knew i was a baby and still slugged and tunneled me off the hook. I feel like this game should be enjoyable but it's just bickering on both sides as to "whats fair" No one is right. No solution is optimal. I have 14 hrs in the game. I assure you i'm an easy kill for anyone with eyeballs at any rank.
Who exactly are you angry at and what do you expect to accomplish with this thread? So many people have offered you advice but you're pushing them away and insisting to play with your friends. I don't think you can honestly claim to care about other people's fun after what you've said but you demand that high rank killers give you special treatment so you can have fun. You say you don't have time to learn the game. The "Custom Game" mode would have been just fine then but you ignore that suggestion. DBD is a PVP game and you can't expect to just jump in and win all the time. Maybe a different game might be more up your alley.
-
You can look at your emblems and analyze where and why you were short on points for the pip:

@KittKatt said:
They have already started ranking down, leaving games, etc... They went from red ranked to 7 and 8 and said they shouldnt have to make new accounts to play a game with me. I don't want babied but the time I have (limited) I want to have fun with my friends, not randoms. Its why I bought the game, you know? I don't mind dying while i'm learning, in fact i expect it but not being tunneled out of the game against a killer who clearly can see im clueless is just not fun. Why wouldn't an experienced killer target the bad player on the team, i get it. Common sense. Its still not a fun experience. I will take all the advice i got here and try to use it to get a bit better. Thank you for everyone's comments and advice <3
The "Custom Game" mode which some people already mentioned might be the actual solution to the problem. It used to be called "Kill Your Friends" for a reason. You don't even need a full team of 5 players. No randoms, no tunneling, no camping, no Spirit.
-
Take your time playing solo and try not to get frustrated. When I started, I was always the first to die for a while. I used the opportunity to spectate the rest of the game and watch what my teammates were doing and try to learn from it. I read on the wiki about the powers of the killers I had just played against, about the perks they were using and the perks other survivors were using. I watched Twitch streams. There's a lot to learn at first.
Then it slowly started getting better. I made it to rank 16-15 before my first rank reset. Next season I made it to 12. In the beginning it's tough because the game keeps throwing different killers at you and you don't even know what their powers do and how to counter them.
I'm still nowhere near a good survivor. I suck at looping. I prefer stealth and tailor my builds around it. Putting together a build can be quite fun once you get a couple perks to play with. Meta doesn't work for everyone.
I think it's actually a good idea if your friends are willing to get alt accounts but do what you're comfortable with.
-
The real reason why people play Spirit. This is what I got when messing around on my lvl 7 Pig. I thought survivors didn't want to play against Spirit?
-
@Revansith said:
I accept each player has their own approach during an event such as this, but my own experience was marred when I was mori'd as the first eliminated, the next guy was hooked twice and died, the last two one of whom one was a friend I had grouped with and another player and the killer farmed each other for points for like ten minutes. I understood it was a way for the remaining players to get a better bloodpoint score but it was sickening to watch and in the endgame chat I announced I was probably going to quit (at least till the event is over) because it was too much like wintrading.
I pvp in another MMO and I guess maybe I disagree with farming like that. Just my opinion, not every player is the same.
I agree with this. It's funny how it seems to be accepted as the norm though and if you disagree, you're entitled.

Pure crap, as expected.
Survivors DC'ing the minute you down the first one. Or, they are 4 man swf with a full load of instant heals. AT least I get some points on the latter one.
Killers loading up ebony mori, tunneling and face camping like it is their national past time.
I say disable Mori and instant heals during these events. Use it as a test run.
What @Warlock_2020 said. Disable Moris and instant heals during events.
Killer queues are too long so I play survivor. I stopped using offerings and items due to all the Moris, etc. I'm getting the same amount of bloodpoints from the bloodhunt as from normal play with offerings. For my first DbD event it's pretty underwhelming.
-
@Dreamnomad I started playing survivor again due to the currently shorter waiting times but looks like killer queues would have a better ROI.
@TheGorgon Farming is not the way the game is supposed to be played which makes it a special case in my eyes.
-
@TheGorgon Let me rephrase it. What I'm asking is whether griefing by excluding a single player from farming and intentionally denying bloodpoints is reportable.
-
@Dreamnomad You do have a point. From my experience though the killer can communicate that they want to farm by picking up a survivor and not hooking them on the first available hook. Or slugging them, hitting a gen with their weapon and then letting the survivor wiggle out. The hard part is catching a survivor to start this sort of communication in the first place.
-
@NoShinyPony They did try to run away from the killer but they didn't have Borrowed Time. They weren't new so I'm sure they knew there was a better way to do this.
What's bothering me is that he killed me off and then decided to do the usual farming stuff with the others. If you are going to farm, then do it with all the players. I'd like to know the official stance on this.
-
@NoShinyPony The other survivors were trying to unhook me while he was camping the hook. I thought that it would have been better under the circumstances if they were doing gens. By the time I started spectating the match they were farming.
-
It's not camping and tunneling that I want to report.
-
Explain that to the entity. You're just a killer in its realm and you gotta do its bidding, no? It wants those juicy survivors properly sacrificed ;)
-
Resilience. Opening that door faster has saved my life a couple times. Also Resilience with Selfcare.
-
I like the SWF change because I don't get as many green ranks in my rank 20-19 killer lobby and so far haven't gotten higher ranks than that since the change. However, the queue times for killer have increased slightly and are now around 10 min. It also takes longer to find a lobby as a rank 13 solo survivor (5 min instead of seconds) but I don't play survivor much lately.
-
I'm just gonna throw a link to the Steam Charts here.
https://steamcharts.com/app/381210#48h
The time you see is your local time and you can check on your own whether you happen to be playing at a peak time or a low activity time. Of course, we can't tell from this graph how many of those people are low rank but it could still be helpful to know the general player activity.
Edit:
@bearsupply
Basically your queue times are like this since you reinstalled the game? Was that before or after Stranger Things? Were you playing right before Stranger Things and getting normal queue times? Have you tried verifying the game files? In Steam right-click on DbD, Properties and then:

You have a great point, and apologies for not noticing this. I will change that immediately, and will look at the data more carefully next time. What information did you draw from the graph?
No worries, mistakes happen.
I can't draw any conclusions from the graph personally due to the sample size being too small to be statistically reliable.
-

So you are saying that the lower voted killers are just less fun to play and has nothing to do with power? But yes, fair enough.
I am saying that you collect the data but then make conclusions which are not based on the data at all. You have the same amount of votes for Plague and Hillbilly for example. But you are not making the same conclusions for them. Why is that?
-
@Pugpablo123 said:
Judging by the data, the wraith, the plague, and the clown are either not very fun to play or are just not very powerful.
Based on the graph you posted, Wraith has 1 vote, Plague has 2, Clown has 2. Since Nurse has 1 vote, Hillbilly has 2 votes and Leatherface has 2 votes, if I were to judge only by the data alone without any background knowledge about what might have skewered the results, I will have to say that Nurse, Hillbilly and Leatherface are also in the same category as Wraith, Plague and Clown of killers who are either not very fun to play or are just not very powerful.
Fair?
-
@bearsupply Over half an hour doesn't seem right. I'm a rank 20-19 killer and rank 13 solo survivor in ET and while the queue times are definitely longer, it feels more like ~10 min, not 30 min. Might want to open a ticket and see whether there's something more at play than normal matchmaking.
@FireHazard I remember getting matches with the following ranks as killer last night so I don't think it's because the system is trying to match him only with the Grey ranks:
11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19
Edit:
Might be more helpful if I put it like this. One match was against 11-19-17-19 ranks and the other 14-15-18-14.

@Avocet As an aspiring scientist, I agree with you completely. This will only show the frequency of killers of a very small subset of the entire player base. As a fellow forum-dweller, however, I feel that this is a step-up from the subjective notions that many threads are based on. This may also lead to some other interesting insights!
Plus, I’m certain that BHVR already tracks a number of different variables from the game that is later used as basis when deciding to rework something (or not). :-)
Scientists unite :) It irks me that the subset is not really representative of the entire killer community but you're right, it can't hurt to get some tangible statistics at least for the forum population. I'm sure BHVR has access to the entire data and will use that when making decisions.
-
@albarty123
I'm not familiar with all killers so I'll comment on what I know. There's a big difference between a Trapper trap and a Hag trap. A Trapper trap will catch you no matter what if you happen to trigger it and then you need to try to free yourself with a 25% chance of success or less. On the other hand a Hag can teleport to her trap only if she's within distance. Whether she gets to hit you or not depends on her skill and your skill. Setting a lot of traps all over the hook will only hurt the Hag as they can be triggered all at once but you need only one to teleport. Meanwhile she would be lacking traps in other parts of the map and would need to spend time resetting all wasted traps under the hook.
I'm by no means a Hag expert but these are just a couple things you might want to consider. If you want to see how survivors can unhook their teammates against the Hag, try playing the Hag. As a matter of fact, give every killer on your list a try. It would give you a better perspective.
I'm honestly entertained when people say a certain killer doesn't need any skills to play. Assuming you EVER played that killer, just because you didn't use any skill means no skillful play exists? And playing a killer without using skill (as you said yourself) just made you the authority about that. You just made my morning.
