The community voted for it to come back before the queue time fix so they went for majority rule
Yeah, and it was not the smart move to ask the community. Because the community has no clue.

I get that there is plenty of stuff for surv side in 2v8 that needs improvement but I still have very much fun in this mode and dont get all that hate?
At least the cages and number of other survs make the proxy Camping and hard tunneling not as persistent as in 1v4 which is great for the casual crowd
And lets not forget that the vast majority of players voted for another iteration without changes, so.. doesnt seem like there was a decision the devs could have made that wouldnt be called bad 🤷♂️
"And lets not forget that the vast majority of players voted for another iteration without changes, so.. doesnt seem like there was a decision the devs could have made that wouldnt be called bad 🤷♂️"
Yeah, but the Devs knew that the queue times would be bad. And they should not have let the community decide, because the community does not really understand that 2v8 is really not good with the high queue times as long as a fix is not implemented.

Yeah I agree, can we just not, please?
I mean, for me the Devs can add all the voicelines they want. They can make all Survivors talk to each other, might give a little bit of touch to their Lore (e.g. Sable, Mikaela and Orela know each other). But they should introduce an option to disable voicelines.
Like, I think that Orela is a cool character (and important for representation). But her voicelines ruin her for me and so I will probably never play her again after I brought her to P9. Which is a shame.

@Mooks said:
they have stated that this iteration doesnt have any differences compared to the one before (except of course new Killer/map additions) but next iteration will have features with the intention to lower Killer queue times - how exactly thats implemented wasnt revealed but I think they mentioned being able to play surv matches while queuing up for killer(?)
As there is nothing new this time, the problems are the same as before plus maybe even amplified du to same-y feeling from last time with the same frustrations thus people dropping out quicker.
Imo it feels also like content creators are riling up their communities against 2v8 - but thats also a general problem with content creators, complaining and hating on new stuff especially when they have been creating content for it for a while is kinda engaging and entertaining for their following and many just follow up on these opinions
I mean, lets be real here - the Devs should have NEVER brought back 2v8 without the fix they are planning to do for queue times. It was a bad decision.
And while their fix MIGHT help with queues, it does not really adress the core problem which is the mode being really unappealing for Survivors. And this is not changed when you can play Survivor while queueing for Killer.

@Caiman said:
I hope it's a bug. Hearing other survivors that aren't mine is very distracting.
Same. I highly dislike her voicelines. I get that it is some celebrity who is voicing her and this is great I guess, but those are some of the most boring and annoying voicelines I have heard so far. And having to listen to them when other players are playing Orela… Thats really not it.
-
I mean, in general it should work. Because you would have Killer players who can do something else while waiting and also you would have Survivor players who would make the queues faster for Killer.
It is a fix and a decent one. But it does not really solve the Core problems of 2v8. Plus not everyone who wants to play Killer in 2v8 also wants to play Survivor. (And I dont know if they make it that you are automatically queueing for Survivor or that you can decide if you want to queue for Survivor while waiting for Killer)

All good points and I agree with you.
The additional and most significant things that makes 2v8 less appealing than ever; Legion and Oni. Simple as that.
I accept no MMR is going to mean infuriatingly stupid team mates and I still managed to have a lot of fun in earlier iterations of 2v8. But Legion and Oni man, just absolute buzz kills.
I am looking forward to this ending so everyone is back in regular queues again.
Yeah, I dont know what they thought with Oni or bringing Legion into 2v8 in general. IMO not every Killer needs to be in 2v8 (and I think some will not be, mainly licensed ones). But Legion is one of them.
When it comes to Oni, it baffles me when I look that they introduced Oni and Ghostface at the same time. Ghostface is the weaker Killer overall and in 2v8 you have more Survivors who can break you out of stealth yet he got the smaller Buff.
Oni on the other hand is already stronger, has more people which can potentially be injured in 2v8, has it easier to find people to injure them (since there are double the Survivors, but the maps are not double the size), has another Killer who can injure for him AND potentially Legion being the other Killer. Yet Oni got the better buff.
In general, if I look at Killers like Ghostface or Trapper who are on the weaker side and then Killers like Nurse, Blight or Oni who are on the stronger side or even the strongest Killers, the latter received more and better Buffs than the first group.
-
Well, nobody wants to play Survivor. For Killer the gameplay in 2v8 is unique, for Survivor, you have the same gameplay, sometimes even less of what you have in 1v4. And if you are tired of SoloQ - congratz, you have to play with 7 randoms instead of 3 randoms! Let alone that 2v8 is very fast-paced, this means as Survivor youi can be out of the game quickly (and some Killers tunnel quite hard in 2v8) and as Killer you wait longer, sometimes double the time, than you spend in the actual match. And as long as there are not improvements to make Survivor appealing in 2v8, it will not change.
IMO BHVR should not have brought back 2v8 until they implemented their fix (that you can play Survivor while you wait in queue as Killer for 2v8). It was a complete fail on their end to bring it back without their fix. The fix does not really change the core problem of Survivor being not fun in 2v8 and it also does not really help those people who just dont want to play Survivor (because in the end, if I queue for Killer, I want to play Killer, not Survivor), but it would have helped.

I'm a P100 Freddy main. I love playing as and against him.
On a side note, I was playing 2v8 as Survivor yesterday and thought you were in my lobby because one of the survivors' gamer tags was so similar to your name here in the forums.
I spent the match trying to save the Sable that I thought was you only to look closer at the player name post-match and realize that I read the name wrong 😔
After that disappointment, I now find out you don't like my Killer.
Damn...
I mean, this is just my opinion. And you have a different one. Which is fine, there will be Killers which you hate to play as or against and those might be some of my favorite Killers to play.
But the thing is - his strength IS fine. He has a high Killrate according to nightlight and it is not because people dont know how to play against him. Because he is pretty simple to understand, he does not have a bloated Kit and while some people might say he is a Noobstomper, even to be a Noobstomper the Killer has to be some form of strength. But his pickrate is clearly below average and if his strength is good, this can only mean that he is not as much fun to play.
And I am honest - I am personally also kind of fed up with Freddy. The rework back then was probably one of the worst things which could happen, since it made Freddy very boring and back then also insufferable to play against due to his Slowdown and ability to tunnel (because back then he could ignore BT). And I had quite high hope for their latest changes to him. I did not expect that they will completely go back to the original design (even tho, in retrospect I think the original design could have been saved with Tweaks and some power additions), but for me it was underwhelming.
While Freddy never was my favorite Killer, I found his initial design very unique and he is after all one of the biggest Horror Icons we have in the game. So I guess my perception of him is just overly negative due to the history around him and him being a Horror Icon.
To the other part - nah, I am currently mainly playing Orela to get her to P9 (which is "maxed out" for me). And I barely play 2v8, not a big fan of the gamemode. 😅
-
Strength-wise he is fine. Not a big fan of him being able to teleport to healing Survivors, but it is what it is.
He is super-boring tho. Both to play as and to play against.
-
As already said, Anon-Mode does not protect from any penalties. Especially non which are chat-related, since for those you dont even need to file a report to Support.
However, I would agree that Anon-players should have some restrictions. I dont think they need to be chat restrictions, but not seeing other peoples names or at least not being able to click their profiles would be great. But this would require to put Anon-Mode locked once you are in a Lobby, because otherwise people could just enable it after checking all the profiles. (In general, nobody should check other peoples profiles, this should have been removed years ago)
Because the only courtesy Anon-players should have is to not flame other players for things which they themselves are hiding. Like hours played, other games they might play, nationality… If you are making your profile private or use Anon-mode - great. But dont blame others because they play a lot of DBD (or not a lot of DBD) or other things. And since not all Anon-players have this courtesy, BHVR should do something about it so that they can lower the amount of harassment which can be done by Anon-players.

@Cetren said:
Yes. I don't necessarily understand why they buff up killer powers that are ALREADY better by the nature of the 2v8 gamemode. Twice as many survivors and another killer creating injuries SHOULD BE the buff to Oni's power. Giving him tons of speed and turn rate basekit as well as removing any sort of downside or limit on his power (such as the power gauge decreasing when he downs a survivor) just makes him a complete beast, even without considering the fact that there'll be twice as much blood spawning at any given time and twice as many survivors to hit to fill your power.
Yeah, its funny that Oni gets more and better Buffs than Ghostface.
Oni —> Already buffed because more Survivors and more people who can injure Survivors (especially Legion), but gets more strong buffs.
Ghostface —> Probably weaker in 2v8 because more people can break him out of Stealth, yet the Buffs he received are less impactful or useful than Onis.

Extremely OP… Got Trapper, Nemesis, and Ghost Face starving for attention while Nurse, Blight, and Oni are overstuffed..
IMO this cannot be said enough. Some Killers are really weak in 2v8 and those are also on the weaker side in 1v4. Yet the best or at least very good Killers in 1v4 get Buffs in 2v8. I dont really understand BHVRs thinking here.

so reports in matches where people were exploiting bugs with game letting us know action has been taken against "Exploiting" don't actually result in anything?
This message only means that someone has worked on your report. Not that someone got banned.
-
Not really a big deal. If you play normally and slap on one Aura Read-Perk, you should get this in around a week without having to go out of your way.
-
They only banned for the Legion Add-Ons because they announced on their Socials and ingame that it is a bannable offense to run those. And from this point onwards, it was assumed that everyone should know (since clicking the message away ingame without reading it would be your own fault) and it was assumed that they were intentionally using those Add Ons.
And IMO this is the right approach. You cannot expect that people follow all social media-accounts and as long as it was not warned about the Bug ingame, they should not ban for it. I would rather have some people exploit the Bug than having some innocent person being banned for it. Because otherwise there is not really any way to determine if it was intentional or not. Sure, you could check how long the person is using said Perk. E.g. with the Merciless Storm-Bug, you could check if they were running the Perk before or just after the Patch which got it bugged. But even then you can only assume that they are running it intentionally because it is bugged.
IMO the main responsibility is with BHVR. If a Bug is gamebreaking enough AND a fix is on the horizon, they should killswitch whatever is bugged. They are way too lenient with the Killswitch. But I am happy if they are lenient with Bans.

High MMR doesn't mean it's easy mode. People can struggle at any MMR. Even professional DBD players struggle in matches. That bring said, the old visible ranks literally had nothing to do with skill determination. It was just how much people played during a month.
Yeah, but sometimes it is pretty clear that they are really challenged at the game. And well… If you are bad at the game even a mediocre player will look good for you.
And sadly I have to disappoint you - the Emblem-System lead to quite good Matchmaking when the Rank Reset was strict. When they watered it down, all went downhill.
-
IMO the numbers are fine. From what I have seen, my progress on the Rift is pretty good.
However, my main point with the Quest-System is that it is really, really boring and does not feel rewarding. The challenges so far are just "play the game". I think some of the older Tome-Challenges were a bit too much "Throw the game", especially on Survivor. Killer was mostly "play the game", but there you also had challenges which spiced up the gameplay.
And of course having to play certain characters or using Perks you would usually not use made it interesting. With the current Quest-System there is 0 reason for me to play any Survivor besides the one I am playing anyway and 0 reason to play any Killer aside from the one I want to play. And it makes it honestly a bit boring.
Plus, a big turnoff for me is that you cannot claim the Rift-Progression yourself anymore. It being automatic feels it less exciting. Before I would claim the Rift Tiers and be like "Oh, the new Jake-Head, neat.". Now I just get it and sometimes I dont even realize what exactly I have gotten.
-
This happens when you close the game in any unexpected way. E.g. Task Manager or simply crashing. Then it resets to the same things you had on your previous start of the game, so Killer and Survivor which were picked when you started the game the last time and also any Items or Add Ons equipped (or Perk Builds).

These changes dont compare tho? Anti slugging etc happens throughout the game. anti go next only happens 1 in 10 matches (atleast for me) and the anti hiding only comes into effect at endgame or 2 survivors remaining
How do youn know if those changes dont compare to anything? Have you any insight of their measurements about Anti-Slugging or Anti-Camping? Or the Go next-Prevention? I mean, you surely have some Insider-Knowledge, it cannot be possible that you are just talking without knowing anything concrete.
-
A buff or nerf does not mean that there should be any compensation. This is not how balancing works. Balancing is not nerfing a thing on one side and then nerfing something else on the other side. Balancing is also not to nerf something on one side and then buff something else on that same side.
IF BHVR thinks after those things that Killer is in a rough spot, THEN they will most likely think about Buffs for Killer or Nerfs for Survivor. But asking for compensation is just not the right thing. Let alone that BHVR said themselves that they did a lot for Killer over the past years and it is time to give something to Survivors. Which is just true, Survivors got the short end of the stick for quite some time. Not saying that all the Buffs to Killer or all the Nerfs to Survivor were not justified. But you cannot really ignore that one side was favored more over the past few years.
And honestly - unless we dont know what those things are they will implement, nobody should really ask for compensations. If we look at the AFC-Feature, it might be possible that Anti-Tunneling or Anti-Slugging does almost nothing.

Unless BHVR fixed it at some point, Huntress's Mordeo outfit has the same problem. A real damn shame since the cosmetics are linked. I mostly avoid linked sets, anyway, but I'm definitely never getting something that frustrating. Oof.
IMO what BHVR really needs to do is put in a first person-view for Killer in the Shop. Since this is what the Killer sees in the end. And if a weapon is overly big, people can at least report it and dont buy it, just to not wanting to use it afterwards.

ok then answer my question. if you were in that game then what would you do now that survivors have all 5 infinity stones in terms of anti camp and anti tunnel (and are only getting more)? you can't tunnel because your killer can't shred through those defenses, and you can't 12 hook because the survivors dont go down in 20 seconds so what is the solution?
I might have to tunnel or camp. But my point is, not every game I play will be:
- With a weak M1-Killer
- on Garden of Joy
- against a 4man SWF
Those are three quite specific requirements. Yet you people act as if it is the norm to have those kind of games. I can also play with Nurse on any Map against a bunch of poor Solos. And nobody needs to tunnel or camp there, yet there are players who are still doing that.
-
@StalkingYou said:

play a m1 killer against 4 man garden of joy and come back to me saying you dont need to tunnel and camp and can 12 hook against that
I said you dont need to tunnel and camp CONSTANTLY. I mean, you thought you had your "Got you!"-moment here, but you ignored a very important word. And yes, I stand with that - you dont need to tunnel and camp constantly. Do you need to do it sometimes? Sure. But this is not an issue.
But there are people who do it in every game and this is not needed.
-
It is good that it is finally happening. This is just another step to bridge the gap between SWFs and Solos a bit. It wont bridge it by much, but it will help if you have somewhat competent teammates who can digest the information they are given. If I see that someone else has We Will Make It and/or Deliverance, I let them get the Unhook. Or I hope people see that I have Resurgence and heal me immediatly at the Hook before Hemorrhage removes all the Healing Process gained by Resurgence in three seconds. Overall it is a big plus since those are information people get for free.
There wont be any constant Lobbydodging because of No Mither or Sole Survivor. Those Perks are rare anyway, but it will not happen that suddenly Lobbydodging will be a thing. (That being said, I would not mind a penalty on Lobbydodging, both for Killers and Survivors. I dislike the fact that you can cherrypick your games, so having some measurements that people dont dodge too often would be fine)
-
Thats it, uninstalling.
-
Yeah, thought the same. With most maps not really having many strong Loops anymore. And I dont really know how it can be 2025 and people are still thinking they only lose when facing SWFs.
In the end it is the great picture - Killers claim that they feel that they have the need to tunnel and camp (they dont need to tunnel or camp to win games, at least not constantly), so the Devs are trying to make it harder to tunnel and camp. And if there are issues and Killer experience gets worse, they will adjust the Killers. Which is a win-win overall.
Yet people are doomposting that Killer will be unplayable. I can only imagine that those players dont really play the game for a long time.

I honest to God don't see any letters and when I see pictures of the supposed letters it still doesn't look like anything to me, but that might just be me, but I'm going to throw a wild card and suggest it's a fnaf part 2 with Vanessa and Michael as the two, it would keep the hype going for fnaf and it makes sense for those two.
FNAF-Fans are something else. After speculating for years that specific Chapters might be FNAF, they get one and the first thing they do, they want more FNAF-Chapters. Sigh. It would also not really make sense to make a second FNAF-Chapter right after the first. I mean, Springtrap comes without a Survivor, having a double Survivor-Chapter for FNAF right after that would just be weird.
There are clearly letters highlighted. And they dont spell FNAF or anything.

IMO - they're simplifying it for the incoming FNAF crowd. A chunk of whom are quite young and probably do play Fortnite. It's boring because it's been dumbed down.
Yeah, this is the main reason. This is also why characters are now start with Perks, Items and Add Ons equippped. And most likely their statistic shows that newer players dont realize that Tomes and the Rift exist and probably dont equip challenges.
But I personally still think it is not the right call. For Perks, Items and Add Ons - yes. But not for the Rift and Challenges, the unique approach they had set them apart from other games.
-
Yeah, have to say, the new Quest-System and Rift are really boring. Usually when a new Tome opened, I at least got to play a different Killer I would not have played or using a Perk I would normally not use. But now it is just playing the game normally. I do think that some Survivor-Challenges were too much "throw the game", but I think "Play with X-Perk" or "Stun the Killer and escape" were not those kind of games.
Also, at the very least the Rift-Progression should not be automatic. I honestly did not even notice what I actually got from the Rift, since I dont need to claim it manually anymore. Takes a lot of excitement out of it. Before I would claim the Tiers and see "Oh, the new Jake-Cosmetic, nice."… Now it is just there and I often overlook it.
Overall, I preferred the unisue approach DBD was doing. This is an overall downgrade and one nobody asked for. -

Whoa, you might be one of the most toxic people I've seen in this forum. Wouldn't surprise me if you were the sort of person who let survivors bleed out and refused to leave at the gates.
That's not "the correct answer" that was just your argument. You do not own the truth. And I pointed out how your argument was flawed. To which you did not defend, you just decided to be toxic. Maybe when you have an argument we can try this again, until then, work on becoming a better person.
Sorry, but my answer IS the correct answer. Sorry to disappoint you, but the Abandon-Feature came because there was an increase in slugging. Both to win the game (because slugging is honestly too strong and too easy to do) AND to be toxic. And the increase must have been significant for the Devs to act.
Yet, there was and is not really a need to do the same for Killer, simply because Killers (unlike Survivors) have ways to get the game to an End. All Gens done? Open the Exit Gates. Exit Gates open, but Survivors not leaving? Either force them out (yes, you might see them pressing a button, get over it) OR run around the Map, collect BPs or whatever. Meanwhile, Survivors cannot do anything when slugged until bleedout, they can only crawl around at the lowest speed possible in the game. For double the time Killers would have to wait for the EGC to finish WITHOUT any possibility to speed it up.
I dont really know what to tell you, but I think it is pretty clear when you put away your "BHVR favors Survivors"-glasses. Killers brought this upon themselves. Maybe not the majority of Killer players. Maybe not even you yourself. But others are the reason for the change.
And you making things up how I might play or not play does not really change that my answer is the correct one. But, just for the record - I almost never teabag and I try to avoid slugging as much as possible, unless it is for pressure because I really, really need it. But you wont see me hovering over you, humping you. You also wont see me waiting at the Exit Gate until you approach to see me leave.

That's a silly argument when we both know toxic people do it on both sides.
Seriously, what compels a person to actually start typing a post with the intent of defending unbalance? How does one fall so low? Like is that really what people are proud of? Defending unbalance?I was just answering your question. Nothing more. Sorry that the correct answer to your question is not the one you wanted. I try again:
The Devs are super survivor-sided and want to torture Killers.
Better? /s
-
Simple - because some Killers decided that it is funny to let Survivors bleed out for 4 minutes, while Killers always had the option to a) start the EGC (which is 2 minutes instead of 4 minutes) and b) to force Survivors out of the Exit Gates, meaning they have an option to end it quicker. Survivors not.
And because those Killers thought it was funny to slug everyone until bleedout, Survivors are now allowed to skip waiting around for 4 minutes.
-
It did not happen to me yet, so for me it looks like it is fixed.

That was the case back in 2019. Since then, their methods of detecting have been updated and improved.
Depending on if they allow the link, as it is their own website, but I am assuming a mod might check it for validity first: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/articles/4408586278676-How-to-report-a-player
This exact page USED to say that video evidence was required for hacking, and would actually give you an entire form to fill in, where you had to supply the name, the profile of the offender, whether you reported them in game or not(they dont neccesarily need that nowadays, as they can check who has had that name in your personal match history, it would just take more time to find them), what time the game happened, what date, what they did, etc. Nowadays that form is just asking for your cloud ID and preferably the profile link of the offender if possible.
Side-note: I still wish they would add a thumbs down button as an option too, because right now unsportsmanlike is the best way to describe certain behaviour (like slugging and then slug camping you for 4 minutes, not bannable, but I need a frustration button so I wont take it into the next game).
But yeah, I've reported some through the support system without video evidence and I know they got banned because they told me I actually got them banned. I wont say what they were doing in the game that I think got them caught, because information, but it does work, even though if it doesnt feel like it.
That is purely them being forced to withold information, because they dont know if you are associated with someone or not. I even send them a profile of someone who has told me that he has friends who use third party software to streamsnipe. I wont share what he shared with me, because again, info, but I am 100% certain that his friends are being watched right now. I know I wont hear back from it, because once again, I could be a mole trying to get information on them on who they caught. But I will also be fairly certain that the person who told me might come back and tell me about it, and depending on what they say, I might send that information too.
Video evidence when possible is always preferable. If you can, try to die early on and spectate the offender as that gives the most visual information when sending video evidence. But it is not needed to get them banned, just to speed up the process.I am 100% sure that they did not tell you that YOU got them banned. That you reported someone and they got banned does not mean that your ban was responsible. It could also have been that someone else reported them WITH video evidence and then the Cheater got banned.
You 100% need videoproof for reports like this.

I mean it's a commendable marketing tactic
Of course. And from a marketing-perspective I totally agree with this. BHVR wants and needs to make money and maximizing the amount of potential buyers for a Chapter is the Key. But since I am not a Marketing-Manager at BHVR but a customer who plays there game, I highly dislike to release things too strong intentionally. Because this just makes too many people upset. Survivor-gameplay was miserable when Ghoul released, which in turn also means that Survivors give up more frequently, which results in bad games for both Killer and Survivor, especially because Killer queues were long. And now Ghoul got nerfed and Killers are upset.
And still some people dont think it was intentional. But while BHVR in the past did not really know about balancing (which is fine, DBD is the first successful game of its kind), the Devs nowadays know what they are doing. They are smart and have a good idea of the game and how it should be balanced. So I cannot really get the idea to think that it was a mistake.

People are clueless if they don't agree with your conspiracy that the devs made Kaneki op on purpose to boost sales? That's certainly some mental gymnastics lol.
I think there are few people that will argue Kaneki wasn't busted at release. He was way overpowered. And even after the nerfs now he still seems pretty strong. But you've got no proof that BHVR made Kaneki op just because they wanted to boost sales. Of course there is also no way of proving that that wasn't the case, but still. Acting like you know that's the case is pretty ridiculous.
This person and I have history. They love to intentionally misunderstand me or take things I said out of context. So I might be biased and consider the whole history with them to call them "clueless".

Wouldn’t the ‘it’s from a niche IP’ argument be disproven by literally all original killers, though? They don’t come with associations to a property, so shouldn’t they also be overtuned to promote sales?
And your survivor argument, by that same token, shouldn’t Alan Wake have come with broken perks? Alan Wake is a fairly niche property, certainly way smaller than one of the best known manga/anime properties of the industry.
Actually, Tokyo Ghoul is simply not a niche property. The manga is one of the best-selling manga of all time. Outside of the west, the chapter was bound to be succesful, regardless of power.
They luckily did not do that with Survivors anymore. Probably because the backlash was too big.
And when it comes to niche things… Original Chapters dont have fanbases. Original Chapters also dont cost money to buy. ANd, last but not least, they dont need to spend extra money on any licenses.
For licensed content however they have to make it possible that a maximum amount of people want to buy it. This can be achieved with:
People just buying everything —> whales, collectors, completionists… Whatever you want to call them.
People liking the license —> A Anime-Fan or Tokyo Ghoul-Fan would by the chapter.
Making the Character, their Perks, whatever strong —> Everyone else who does not fall in the first two categories.
And given that before not a small amount of people said that Anime would not really fit into DBD (yes, this was an opinion), they had more reason to appease those people.

I dont really see it for Legion. Or Wesker (someone mentioned Wesker in a different Thread). But for Blight, I totally see it reasonable. Its not like every Pallet needs to be broken nowadays anyway, but the reason why Killers have to break Pallets is to grant the Survivor distance.
Blight (and Ghoul, formerly) are/were too good to close this distance. It would be only fair that Blight gets the same treatment.
But the Devs have a history of being very reluctant with Blight-changes.

As a hoarder myself, I agree. Great revert!
