We'll have to see what boon totems have in the package first. Some killers may not waste time to find them if they're not worth destroying. The boons benefits might be so slightly that it doesn't largely affect the killer. It may be a thing of if the killer comes across it, then epic. But again we'll have to wait and see.

I definitely could see a lot more slugging going on though. And tunneling. Maybe even camping but again, we'll have to see what all it entails first.

The thing is, Boon-Totems will be mediocre at best. They will probably a bit better than the average Perk released over the last 4 years for Survivors, but since the Devs have to keep in mind that 4 Survivors can equip a Boon-Perk each, they will not be strong.

Obviously, when the first wave of Boon-Perks drops, at least one of them will be called OP. This is a nice little tradition in this forum to say that a Survivor-Perk will be OP, just to not see them at all after the Chapter dropped.

  • "Now before you guys say oh we don't even know if they will be any good first this is behavior we are talking about and second its a survivor thing so I have no doubts that on release they will be op and the killer will have to deal with them or lose."

So, you are saying that the side who did not get a Meta-Perk since David King will get good Perks? Bold statement.

I think your on the right track lol I don't watch dbd tournaments so I had no idea who she was till I was told last night. It's weird that you'll happily stream, but not during a tournament? That's pretty sus.

I don't know the forums terms when it comes to hinting/naming people so I won't say anything but I'm pretty certain we both know the person.

From what I was shown it was proven they were banned for cheating.

I know who you are talking about. IMO being banned for cheating makes more sense than her own explanation, which was that she clicked a link and got hacked.

Playing against her was always quite a miserable experience, I faced her like 10 times before SBMM was live.

So let me get it clear just so I don't make myself look dumb. As of recently (5.2.0) there is NO rank/grade/skill based match making anymore, all random? If this is the case I guess I either suck REALLY bad now, or I am just getting really unlucky going against decent players frequently.

It is not random. There is a system in the background which calculates a Rating and pairs players of similar skill level with each other. But nothing is known how this system actually works.

It will also need some time to settle.

  • @Vizikk said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2489144#Comment_2489144

So what your saying is, there is a little validity to my experience? Like, as of now if you were Red rank before, you got placed in the Red Grade. So if I run into Red Grades right now, there is a decent chance they are decent at the game until the 13th?

This is fine and dandy, but why am I being placed AGAINST so many Red Grades? From the over 20+ games I've played so far for the past 3 days. Either my "rng" is insane, or there is something beyond it being that....RNG.

Those Red Grades were "decent" at the game when Ranks were still a thing. But now, they can be the worst players ever, but still have Red Grades, since they had Ranks before OR because they play a lot.

  • @Vizikk said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2489133#Comment_2489133

I wouldn't know 100% because I haven't played in awhile so forgive me if I'm wrong but.....it's higher "grades" that I notice tend to be better. Last night I did play a single game with lower grades and it was obvious to me, they were not that great (I mean neither am I right now but you understand what I'm saying). From my experience so far with this "grade" system is that Higher = Better, Lower = Worse. Again I could be wrong but it's consistent with how my games have been going.

The new Matchmaking is in effect since a few days. Ranks basically became Grades, so someone who had a high Rank before (which was used for Matchmaking before) will have a high Grade. On the 13th, everyone will be set to the absolute lowest Grade and they can climb up again. But Grades should only show the time someone is playing, no Matchmaking Purpose.

You can read more about it here:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/278339/news-skill-based-matchmaking-enabled-indefinitely#latest

  • "Things would be different if there was NO rank based matchmaking, but there is and it's matching with people I don't belong playing against. "

There is indeed no Rank-based Matchmaking. Those are Grades, not Ranks and they are not used for Matchmaking.

  • I doubt that there will be any changes to Totems. They will add the ability to bless a Totem as Survivor to activate a Boon-Perk and that is it. And if there is no Dull Totem on the Map, the Survivor cannot use their Perk.

Maybe comp teams should run a promotion night.

"Anyone who thinks they can beat us can try for one game." I think that'd be a humbling experience for some people

And then? You wont see those Comp-Teams again, they are mostly not playing public matches.

  • @vacaman said:

I thought you were in favor of SBMM because it solves the matchmaking issues and makes for much fairer games! Why would all of the sudden be against having fairer games when it comes to SWF? 🤔 This would only reduce the undeniable communication advantage SWF have to make everyone happy. You can still play with friends, and killers won't mind SWF anymore because the advantage they have would be solved by the matchmaking.

I dont think that SWF is such a big problem. It only becomes a problem at a Level where most players are not even at. But they like to parrot some Content Creators (who are also not at this level).

I have gone against 4 man SWFs multiple times and most of the time I win. And most Killers will probably win against 4 man SWFs as well, I cannot really imagine that a Survivor Main like myself plays Killer better than those who call themselves Killer Main.

All it would do is that it would punish the casual SWFs who are playing with friends.

The only problematic SWFs are very, very high-skilled players who play together. But those are so rare, it is unlikely that someone goes against them multiple times. And people who are saying they go against them constantly are just lying. In 6400 hours I had 1 tournament team in total. Speaks for itself how rare those are.

But instead of focussing how to improve, Killers just look for excuses why they did not get a 4K.

  • @The_Hunter said:

Sooo that means: If I play really long a month, but I am playing very bad, you can get a good grade? XD

Yes. Grades only display your playtime and since you cannot depip to a lower Grade, you will reach Grade 1 at some point.

  • @Axx said:

I agree that the game needs better balance, but most players are not very good and most see no reason to get better. Just play a few hours of solo survivor and you can see this first hand.

    ^ this.

The majority of Survivor players is not really good at the game. The thing is, most Killers are even worse, but since it cannot be their fault that they lost, they must have played against some comp teams.

  • They were renamed to Grades to make sure that they are not Ranks anymore. In two days everyone will be at the lowest Grade and then you see how less of an impact those Grades have.

In general, the longer this system is live, the lesser the meaning of Grades when it comes to seeing how skilled a player is.

  • You cannot really say that you never win against 4 man SWFs, or? Do you always lose? I bet, you win the majority of games against those 4 man SWFs.

And when you already win against them - what is the point of making them weaker? Do you want even more wins? Less chances for those players?

Most SWFs are just friends playing together, talking ######### to each other and having a good time. It is not the case that SWF-players get up in the morning and think "Oh boy, time to bully some Killers today!"

    Haha.

Nevermind the ability to see survivors, its used for bp. Lay off the drugs.

If you would remove the Aura-Part, most people would still use BBQ just for the BPs.

If you would remove the BP-Part, players would drop BBQ pretty fast.

It's like you intentionally ignored the point about this, and went onward to attack it as if it was hypocritical.

Anything for a quick jab that gets you some upvotes, right?

Nah. It is just, if someone wants to play the strongest Killers (most likely with the strongest Build), they should expect to get good Survivors. Even with Rank-Matchmaking I never understood all those complaints - people were playing at Rank 1 and they expect easy games? They should go against the best players. This was not even the reality, because the Ranking System was horrible.

But now, you cannot really complain about sweaty players when you are sweaty yourself. Players who bring strong stuff should face strong opponents.

Not sure how you could come to the conclusions I was boosted from what I wrote. 🙄

Because you had a much higher Winrate with Ranking System. 120 games with over 90% Killrate? With a Killer most people consider not that great?

You went against opponents which you should not have gone against, because Rank-based Matchmaking was terrible. And those games boosted your SBMM-Rating up. Now, with SBMM active, you get much stronger Survivors, according to your Rating.

(And even those stats you are complaining about are not that bad...)

  • @justad00d said:

Since MMR has been activated with Legion:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/ECTR77P4GQWN/image.png

Not a single chill game. Every game has been super sweaty and stressful. This is the first time since I've started playing that I've considered quitting. I don't want to just stomp lower skilled players every game, but I need some variety. I come home from work and just want to chill, play a bit, and have fun. Don't want to struggle against toxic stretch res swfs in every game.

Seems like you got pretty boosted with the bad Rank-Matchmaking.

    @Topic:

It is alright so far. I played Trapper, Billy, Nurse, Huntress, Myers, Demo, Nemesis and Pinhead so far just to check how it works.

Every Killer was a 4K, except for my very first Pinhead-Match and my first Myers-game, but this was my own fault (I messed up my first Chase, so that one was clearly on me... Could have had a down after 5 seconds of EW3, but instead I had to let this one Survivor go because I messed up and only got a down near the end of my first EW3..).

Granted, I play Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer on Cenobite, so a very strong Build which I usually dont run (but thats what I got so far...) and it is pretty easy because of that. I play casually, so it is not unlikely that the Survivors are way too weak to compete with this Build and I will get some harder Matches later.

  • So, you are complaining about sweatfests, but are playing the strongest Killers? Interesting.

  • I only played him on The Game once, was a 4K. In general, except for the first game, all were 4Ks.

(But I also play with Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer, because this is what the game gave me from P0-1 to P0-50, so it is really easy... And The Game also helps more than it hinders at this point, they only found one of my two Hexes)

  • What are you talking about?

  • Grades have nothing to do with Matchmaking. And since you cannot see their SBMM-Rating nor yours, how do you come to the conclusion that they exploit something?

  • Eh. Depends on the Killer and their Build.

Like, I went against a Demo yesterday: Ruin/Undying, Midwich-Offering, Add On which shows Auras after coming out of a Portal and Add On which shows Killer Instinct when someone is near a Portal without having to charge the ability. Totems very hard to find and Portals next to them, so unable to cleanse them.

THIS is an example of Midwich being killer-sided.

Other examples would be Stealth-Killers, Trickster, Nurse, Nemesis...

And other Killers will struggle, mainly those who need to follow a Survivor who is just holding W.

But for the most part it balanced, most Killers will have good and bad matches on Midwich, both fairly equal.

  • @Mr_K said:

No one is saying you should. Play normally and the system will place you where you should be.

Its probably one of the reasons we're not told our MMR. To avoid human nature's will to compete and one up one another.

    ^ thisx2

Just play normally. I just play and my matches are decent. I dont care about the Rating at all.

And keeping it secret - honestly, it is better that way, at least when I look at the Forums. Sometimes people dismiss other players opinions just because of Ranks. "You are not Rank 1"... "erm, I am."

And same thing would happen with MMR. "Your MMR is only 1970, but mine is 2017, you have no idea what you are talking about!".

Because there are better perks. Killer can only use 4 perks against 16. Gens defense is more important?

There are 87 killer perks. Are you trying to say that 83 of those must be useless junk?

Why do survivors run IW so much? I see it used just as much as Dead Hard. Is it because of the off chance they run into a Spirit? Or because it's a very good perk against many killers?

"Why do survivors run IW so much? I see it used just as much as Dead Hard. Is it because of the off chance they run into a Spirit? Or because it's a very good perk against many killers?"

I run Iron Will, but not Dead Hard. And for me, two reasons:

    • Spirit
    • Just as a "feel good"-Perk. I dont like to hear the Injured Noise of Survivors. I simply dont like them, some are even very annoying to hear.
  • @Mr_K said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2487472#Comment_2487472

Iron Will is a strong perk against most killers. I'm a Nurse main, nothing to do with Spirit. I don't even play her outside dailies. In other words, I don't give a ######### about Spirit.

Irow Will to me has always been an issue and thats even before Spirit was release. The only reason other people give a damn about IW and Stridor is because they are getting killed by Spirit. Because Spirit player used Stridor, they blamed that instead of the killer. That is why the Devs nerfed Stridor instead of Spirit. Because survivors can't get there message across blaming a perk. Now Stridor is nerfed and Spirit is back in rotation. All of the sudden Stridor wasn't the issue.

Besides, I don't care about Stridor or Spirit. Iron Will making a survivor completely silent in chase with music covering up all other sounds is my issue here.

    Eh.

I have seen far more posts complaining about Spirit than about Stridor. The only thing that can be said was complained more often than Spirit or Stridor was Stridor-Spirit.

The Devs did not nerf Stridor instead of Spirit because they thought Stridor was the problem. The Devs just dont know how to nerf Spirit without making her too weak or expecting a huge backlash.

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2487391#Comment_2487391

And yet, if people realised the strength behind Iron Will after those bugs were fixed, again I ask why Stridor stopped being used on anyone that wasn't Spirit for the best part of 3 years

Nobody will answer you that. Before the Stridor-Nerf, there was a hard-counter to Iron Will, yet people tend to complain instead of using this hard counter. But at the same time they say Survivors should run Small Game.

Suggesting to run mediocre Perks is only ok for one side.

    @Topic:

I dont have any problem with tracking with Iron Will, at least currently. Footsteps are pretty good to hear. Iron Will is without a doubt a strong Perk, but not as strong as I would call it OP or anything.

And well, I am all for buffing Stridor again - either into a completely different Perk which does not have anything to do with sounds OR into its previous state, while butchering Spirit.

I mean if they don't do -something- then killers will just not play and you'll run in to the same issues for everyone across the board.

OR Killers might realize that they MAYBE (yes, this is a sarcasm-maybe) make a few mistakes and should not blame all their losses on SWF.

I really dont know how you can turn this into an us vs them-Argument, where you bring up that Killers have to play with specific Builds while Survivors get BP-Farming Builds. (Let alone that the best BP-Farming Tool is STILL on the Killers side...)

It was just theoretical on how it could be abused, i highly doubt you'll find many killers run builds on farming bp. There might be a side bp bonus on a perk i.e Bbq, but if you think killers use this perk for bp, you're being silly.

Most Killers use BBQ for BPs. But Killers would not need to equip full BP-Builds, they already get good BPs. But I also doubt that Survivors would do that, because you might use something like Prove Thyself to get more BPs, but this does not help if your whole Build is just BPs and nothing to help actually win the Match.

Like, I would not change my Build for that, but I would greatly appreciate to get more BPs, especially since one category (Survival) is not really possible to max out, especially when dying.

I thought personally their thinking like a doctor/legion with like distressing will get like a easy 32k each match. But thinking on it those two already most likely do that so does bleed even change that much? If i don't get near max bp with those two thats on me lol.

Yeah, those two problably dont need it at all. Others more, when I think about it, Twins with Chase Points, Pig with Deviousness (you need to use the Dash often to get max Deviousness, but you cannot really use it all the time), Trapper with Deviousness (if nobody steps in your Traps, you get very little of those), Plague with Brutality (if nobody cleanses, less Hits).

There are probably a couple more which would benefit from it.

In general, it would not hurt the game at all, as long as the 32k BP-Cap remains.

  • @Barbarossa2020 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2486514#Comment_2486514

"You are under the assumption that people create their build to maximize the bloodpoint gains, instead of basing them on the killer capabilities"

If you were in a swf you could have each player make a build around one of the bp catagories simply to just get bp bleed over.

"I'm not going to change my build because of that, because I still need some gen regression, some chase perk and some tracking to win the match"

Exactly, Killers don't have that option they need a rounded build. Were as a team of survs could just have 1 player run 4 perks for gens, one for heals one for loops etc, and the bleed over points would get them more bp.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2486516#Comment_2486516

Then the killer would get the same limited points.

Killers dont need that for the most part. Every Killer BP-Category fills up at the same time. Survivors can only do one thing at a time to gain BPs AND have to share their BP-sources with others - if you dont get an Unhook, you get only a few Altruism-BPs. If you get chased all game, you will max out in Boldness but miss anything else. And so on.

It helps Killers a bit, mainly those who have bad Deviousness-gains (like Pig) or bad Chase gains (like Twins). But USUALLY, Killers dont need this in the first place, still they would profit from it.

I really dont know how you can turn this into an us vs them-Argument, where you bring up that Killers have to play with specific Builds while Survivors get BP-Farming Builds. (Let alone that the best BP-Farming Tool is STILL on the Killers side...)

  • This should have done long ago. This would also be THE thing which would bring Survivor BP-gain up. It would also help some Killers, but it would be more useful for Survivor.

And the 32k BP-Cap overall will avoid farming matches.

This should have been done years ago.

  • @vacaman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2486216#Comment_2486216

Yes you had an incentive. It was getting better win ratio. Now you can't have that.

I dont really know if you could really count a win ratio when it is mainly due to a bad Ranking System putting Potatoes up at the Top. Players who were at Rank 1 should have been the best players in the game, and we both know that this was not the case at all.

  • "seeing all those killers staring at a wall the whole match, it's actually ridiculous."

I would say it is sad. Once they stop to have easy games because the average Survivor is really not good at the game, Killers give up. Shows really who those people are who complain about the game on a daily basis.

And well, there was no incentive to rank up before either. You play, you reach Rank 1, get no Reward for it and thats it.

Now, when the Grades get reset, you at least have SOME Reward (not saying it is really good) and you have more to do, since all get set back to the lowest Grade.

tbh I get the feeling that the devs have no idea what is the difference between safe and unsafe pallets....

The Devs have a pretty good idea of safe and unsafe Pallets. The Game NEEDS safe Pallets, because it does not have many Windows. However, the problem are breakable Walls. Those created Deadends on The Game, which were compensated with more Pallets, because some Pallets are not useable until later in the game.

Remove the breakable Walls and the Pallets to compensate for Deadends and The Game would be like before (but still a very boring Map).

People who complain about sweatfests are usualy people who want to have fun in this game. At least that's how it is for me.

But people who want to play casually usually dont care about winning or losing. And at some point, the SBMM-Rating will be adjusted to also have chill games.

  • Players who complain about sweatfests are sweaty themselves.

And it will be even more obvious the longer SBMM is active, I dont feel sorry for Killers who decide to run 4 Slowdown-Perks and the best Add Ons when they get really strong Survivors.

  • I got 38k BPs in my second game as Pinhead without BBQ. 2500 of those where because the Survivors did not escape with a Box (in fact, nobody escaped, lol).

So most likely his Score Events are a little bit busted, maybe he gains Objective-Points for some things (as Nemesis did when he was first released).

  • @anarchy753 said:

They told us it was using several months of data. If that's the case how long is it going to take to "settle," years?

The months of Data were collected while Ranks were used for Matchmaking. Obviously it needs to settle a bit, I mean, this should be understandable.

Lets say you are an average Killer with a SBMM-Rating of 500. You go against average Survivors (which are not good, really, the average Survivor is not good) with SBMM-Ratings of 500. With SBMM, you win, your Rating goes up to 550. Now you encounter Survivors with 550 SBMM-Rating.

However, since Ranks were used - the Survivors and Killers with 500 SBMM-Rating play against each other because they are all Red Ranks. Now, the Killer wins, their SBMM-Rating increases. But, next game, they will get the same average Survivors with 500 SBMM-Rating, while having 550 SBMM-Rating. So, the Killer will win again, increasing their SBMM-Rating further.

Now, SBMM is actually going live. Our average Killer has won around 60-70% of their games. But, their SBMM-Rating is now 1000. And instead of getting the same average 500 Rating-Survivors, they go against Survivors with 1000 SBMM-Rating. And get stomped. Why? Because this Killer should not be at this level to begin with.

So, yeah. It will take some time to settle.

  • Give it some time until you are at the Skill Level where you belong. Many Killers are currently boosted because they played against weak Survivors while gaining Rating Points for the SBMM. Now they face Survivors who are better than them, resulting in more losses.

  • "You would think it would be the opposite. A killer-only chapter just came out, and everybody's testing out the new killer, so why aren't the killer queues short and the survivor ones long?"

Erm.. No? If a Killer-only Chapter comes out (or in general, whenever a new Killer comes out), more people want to play Killer, resulting in longer Queues for Killers. This is normal, if on one side more people than necessary (which would be 4:1) queue up, their waiting times are longer.

It's the same way on the U.S. east coast as well. During the day, I can forget about playing Killer. Usually those queues become bearable around 6pm, and by 8pm they're almost instant.

In the US it seems to be more extreme tho. People speak about Queue Times of 20 minutes, I have never experienced that in EU. Like, in EU you might wait around 5 minutes for a Killer game during the day and around 3-5 minutes for Survivor in the evening, but nothing like 20 minutes.

I'm not spreading lies, i'm asking a question because i couldn't remember what they said.

They said what I said - Keys and Moris will receive changes, but most likely not at the same time. Since then, Moris got rightfully nerfed, Keys did not get a Nerf so far (except for the small Nerfs like Hatch closing 10 seconds after being opened by a Key or Key with 0 Charges not being able to open the Hatch as a result of the Franklins Buff).

And during the Anniversay they said that there are more changes planned, both Keys and Moris should feel earned. Since then, nothing new on that topic.

  • They said that both will get changes but that we should not expect them getting changed at the same time.

Later, during the 5th anniversary, they said that Moris and Key will receive changes.

    Please dont spread lies.

  • EU usually is slower during the day for Killer and instant in the evening. Survivor the other way around.
