Does this not apply on the inverse side though? Why does a thousand hour trapper fare so poorly against 4 man swf or against any team with a moderate amount of game knowledge ignoring comms entirely?
Yes it does!

Lol. Content creators start crying about Aura builds and suddenly the entire community hates aura perks. Many such cases.
I dont care about content creators. And i dont care about aura perks, if they serve the purpose to skyrocket the skill ceiling of killers like jason, huntress and trickster.
But on all killers that are able to damage you from afar unconditionally with the press of a button, namely the nurse, the first and the judgement, aura perks water down the behavioural analysis of your enemies, that make the killer fun to play. I mained nurse for around 2k hours and i felt that aura perks would slowly make my brain lazy whenever i equipped them.

This does not stop good nurses, good nurses aren't even using aura builds, all it does is widen the gap between good nurses and not good nurses even more. She needs a complete and total rework.
The issue with aura builds is, that it waters down the skill needed to play the killer. Same with judgement. Thousands of hours should still mean something imo.

4.4m/s. (This is actually a buff)
make fatigue take longer while near a hooked Survivor (anti camp)
make nurse auto break downed pallets if she blinks near them. Have her lose all Blink tokens after breaking a pallet.
I mean that would make her very boring, but balanced i guess.

I don't know about that. If 2v8 became permanent, then the hype will fade, and then people will be less likely to play it after a while. And that would result in even longer queue times.
Maybe you are correct, maybe the playerbase will stabilize and the queue time of 1v4 will be impacted minimally. It's worth a try instead of greatly worsening 1v4 queue times for a few months a year.

I'd like to hear what you consider "appropriate action" regarding the queue times.
Like i mentioned, attempting to establish 2v8 as a permanent mode could remove the hype from the three weeks it's on everytime.
Also, simply creating a new 5v5 mode could water down the pool of event modes and it may be even more popular than 2v8.
Just some ideas to tackle the issue in a better way.

I think there should be stations, that slowly get progress and produce an item similar to singularity counterplay. The item should be a throwable, comparable to a pebble, that can disrupt a nurse blink if she's hit with it. Alternatively some sort of syringe gun thats easier to aim.
Just spitballin here.
-
Blindness while charging a blink/blinking. On top a built-in counter mexhanic for survivors to disrupt her blinks now and then.

we have acknowledged the issues with queue times and we are pretty stuck when it comes to allieviating these, which is why PWYW was implemented.
Sorry, i'm going to reiterate my statement.
The devs refuse to take appropriate action regarding the queue times. PWYW is not an appropriate action. It is a bandaid. A very good one, to be fair, but it's not feasable to just herd players into playing survivor for three weeks a few times a year.
There have been ideas to implement 2v8 as a permanent gamemode for example. Or trying a different mode, that balances out the sides like 5v5. Just not another three weeks of playing two survivor matches between each killer match if i just wanna play killer during an evening.

no one is making you wait 15 minutes. Play while you wait exists.
It does it does. Except sometimes i simply want to play killer, what do i do in that case?
-
Well, at least you dont have to suffer rhrough 15 min queue times because the devs refuse to acknowledge 2v8 queue times issues.

I'm not going to lie, this is actually an amazing comment… potential solution. I do have a secondary PC running Linux for game testing purposes, but I don't use it to game on because it's just not my main PC. However, I'm actually going to give your suggestion a shot because it's really sound! I'll do some research into Bazzite and look at adjusting my Wine/Proton mix.
Please accept my sincere thank you for the tip!
I switched to bazzite as my main gaming distro a while ago and i had no major issues with any game except league of legends.
For league of legends i use a whole separate machine in a guest network, because vanguard is even more invasive than denuvo. This is my only machine running Windows11 with a local account.
Everything major regarding personality, work or hobbies i shifted to linux completely.
EDIT: Only Riot Vanguard, EA Javelin and Activision Ricochet cause incompatibility with linux as far as i know. Any other anti-cheat, that causes issues with linux, is configured like this deliberatly.
-
Switch to linux. Linux distros use contained environments to run games, so denuvo spyware can know everything they want about my container, but nothing about my pc or me.
I can recommend bazzite as an easy-to-use out of the box distro for gaming, if you don't wanna invest time into setup.
-
2v8 is good for the game in general, but the issue with normal queues being unplayable for a few weeks NEEDS to be adressed BEFORE THE NEXT ITERATION PLEASE!

Depends on my mood. I can take about three crayon collectors in a row before i start to accept the dc penalty. I also tend to give up way faster against the creature, because the gameplay is simply unfun.

If the Crayon Muncher is part of the active roster and there is a chance that you get paired up with a killer player who plays them, but you want to avoid every possible chance of going up against the Crayon Muncher even once, then yes you can't play survivor.
But that's only because you choose to. Not your teammates, not the killer player, not the community, not BHVR.
You could also choose to just take the chance. With 44 other killer's there's about a 2.2% chance of the killer player picking the Crayon Muncher to play. And if you do end up playing against the Crayon Muncher, you can choose to at least try. You can choose to do you best regardless. See it as a chance to learn. To improve your skills. To be a good teammate.
And should you lose, then at least you've picked up some more experience that will help you in future trials, ultimately making you a better survivor player.I'm waiting out the two years until he gets nerfed, thank you for the offer though.
Welp, there we have it friends, i am officialy forboden to play survivor from now on. A sad sad development.

I love flashlights, because i get to interact with some quirky sable or ace that jump into my face all the time. My chainsaw doesnt care either.

That's right. I don't want to force people to play against me. But whenever they queue-up for a survivor match, they declare their intent to want to play against a killer. And if I queue-up at around the same time as killer, I declare my intent that I want to play against survivors, and there's a chance that they get paired up with me in a trial. Obviously, neither of us can influence who get's paired up with who for a trial. But the fact remains that they made the conscious choice to be paired up against a killer player, playing any of the available killer characters in the game. They willingly chose to do that by selecting "Survivor" from the menu and pressing the big "Play" button.
And because they chose that, I am under the impression that they intent to play a trial as a survivor. Therefore I expect them to commit to it until the trial is over for them, regardless of their skill level. So, giving up or ending yourself on hook before the trial is over is not a very cool thing to do towards the rest of their team and me as the killer.
If they committed to playing as a survivor during the trial, I expect them to see it through until the point where, under normal circumstances, the trial ends for them. And that, while they're playing, they do their best, regardless of how good that is.
So, to answer your question: You are indeed correct in stating that I don't want to force anyone to play against me and I also don't want them to leave the match if they are not having fun. Because that is something that I think they should have considered beforehand. They have all the information of what they can potentially face. And they can't cherry-pick parts of the experience that they want and simply disregard the rest. If they want that, then they should play a single player game with mods, to that they can tailor the experience to what they want.
Because that is simply not possible in a multiplayer game involving other human players.
So i can't play survivor if i don't wanna play against the crayon muncher?
-
"like singularity" feels so chatgpt. Ever played or played against nurse? Or billy with a good build? Or crayon muncher?
-
@Hopi said:

No. Absolutely not. They should absolutely not do that. Why would you willingly join the game, only to DC or refuse to participate in the game? Them doing that because they don't like how the game is going is exactly what I'm talking about. No player, survivor or killer, should throw a tantrum because they don't like we way things are going.
Every video game that involves multiple human players will have unpredictable and unexpected elements in it. But isn't that one of the reason why we play multiplayer games? So you do not want to force people to play against you…but you don't want them to leave the match if they are not having fun...i dont get it tbh
-
@Hopi said:
I'm not forcing anyone to play against me. They are playing Dead by Daylight out of their own free will (at least I hope so), thereby accepting anything that the game can throw at them.
They don't get to cherry-pick the parts that they like. And if that doesn't work for them, they can stop playing at any time. Just close the game and play something else.
So you are fine with people dcing your matches and $uiciding on hook?

... I dunno why but imagining a killer with a falcon that just dive bombs using this mechanic makes me smile
"The Falconer" sounds like a dopeass killer tbh
-
I would love to see a killer using some sort of mortar. Not comparable to trickshots with unknown or animatronic, but rather a killer that can aim forward, but his shots fly upward before descending rapidly.
Something like that.
-
SB is one of the reasons M1 killers are unpopular. The other one is, well, they're weaker than strong M2 killers in general. The SB nerf just brings them a little closer. It probably results in a few more games of M1 killers for you in a week, but not a whole lot more.

I think the chapter without the surrounding "denuvo/mmr/general BHBR buggy stuff" - noise is actually pretty great.
The killer is fun, has a high skill floor AND a high skill ceiling and is original. The killer perks break the cycle of great/mediocre/trash by being actually useable.
The survivor is the first real grandma and a badass one at that. The only thing to really criticize are the mediocre survivor perks.
-
Currently, DMS. It's an insanely bad perk against competent teams and gets promoted as a good perk by many content creators.
It's a trap for new killer players essentially.
-
I just hate that players who got freed from exile can spawn in front of the killer without any anti-tunnel except one BT. Thats silly.
-
You can't tell me what to do!
Running thrill without anything else, except undying maybe, is actually a strategy to make survivors waste time. It's not a very good one, but it is a strategy.

I mean thats true, playing the game since 2016 too with some breaks inbetween

It's not possible with the current licensing models. On the other hand it's already very hard to stop busted map generation from occuring, i can imagine that won't get better with random main buildings.

thats funny you mention this as a "conspiracy theory" making fun of people for stating the obvious, there are unlocker tools and discord servers that sell such tools where they are both internal editions, external & rage mode that allow you to see which perks survivors are running, which killer it is, which killer perks they are running, their hidden name too if they enabled privacy mode that is bypassed too on a hacker.
There is also a mode to choose which killer prefrence you want to play againts and excluded so yeah.I know that such tools existed for some time, but i have no idea if they still exist and work today.

No? You are talking about two separate issues that are both a problem, but are not connected to each other in any way.
They are directly relevant, not because they affect each other but because it points out an inconsistency in the reasoning for game balance
Nerfing Vigil "Because it disproportionately affects a few killers" but not doing the same to the plague who disproportionately affects all survivors with altruism builds. It's not about nerfing vigil. It's about reworking it.
And you've only made a comparison, you didn't adress any of the concerns or solutions i've presented.
-
The issue i am seeing is, that the alternate hook mechanic is basically unavoidable. With pyramid head cages are a nice passive power that replaces some of the hooks during the game. With judgement it's the standard. A hooking judgement is the exception.
