The solution to this was that first iteration of anti-tunnel with some number tweaks and removing a survivors ability to body block when off the hook.
There were two problems, though.
- BHVR decided to test it out alongside a new Chapter and Anti-Slug.
- Some people would just shut down any consideration of adjusting it to make it work because they didn't want it to work.
-
You're right, but BHVR doesn't care, and won't care unless they see the player count go down. Since no one seems to care enough to actually stop playing, BHVR isn't going to fix this.
If you do care enough to get this fixed, then you need to uninstall the game.

Don't know why they decided to be super-stingy with the BP this year, but it sure doesn't promote player retention, that is for sure.
I for one have not touched the game since the event started, because I have been too pissed off by the decision-making regarding the event in the first place. If this is how we are rewarded for sinking thousands of hours of our time into the game, then so be it. It is not worth it spending more time anymore. The anniversary events has always been the highlight of the year, but this year's event has been such a letdown when compared to prior years. Also, I believe the event points category gets applied separately to the regular BP gains (which gets multiplied by cakes), so that means even less for players to gain.
I agree. I uninstalled the game myself. I'll come back if things improve.
Ruining the Anniversary via both cake nerfs and poor overall design hasn't really hurt player retention either, though. DbD players generally don't care enough about this to actually stop playing, so BHVR will likely see no reason to revert the cake nerfs, nor put more effort into putting out good events.
-
As long as people keep playing the game, BHVR probably doesn't care. Not the people that actually make the decisions, anyway. They have no real reason to actually improve.

Ill admit you are right and i should probably just play her regardless. Jason seems to be the current focus and most popular pick these days too.
It was allot worse maybe half a year ago where the first person i'd hit in every round would turn around and stare at me like
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/5V0WT6GAIWHE/5e638ed84651edd0943ad9d574f3f5ce.jpg
Can't say i've seen that anymore these days
If you're like me and don't really want to play a character that can get some pretty cheap wins, just run sub-optimal builds. Ghoul can afford to break away from the meta.
On topic, though, BHVR is never going to revert the cake changes. They feel like they need to do it to maintain player retention, so the only way to actually get them to back down is if thousands of us stop playing, which just won't happen.
-
As long as you're playing the game, I doubt BHVR is going to be to bothered whether you play the event or not.
If you actually want BHVR to get the point, uninstall the game and don't reinstall until things improve. Only a drop in player retention is going to show BHVR they need to change.

Every event queue is like this, and has been like this since they divided the queues during events.
MMR certainly doesn't help either, and neither did the finisher moris they introduced last year.It was like this before the lobby split. The split was supposed to minimise it, but I guess the sweats realised they'd have an easier time killing survivors who weren't focused on gens.
-
The only thing that would make them actually back down on this would be if play count dropped by a significant amount.
Which won't happen, because most DbD players don't really care about this as much as their complaining indicates.
If people actually cared they would uninstall the game until BHVR blinks first. This isn't the kind of community that actually pushes back when BHVR takes the piss.
So, no, they aren't going to change anything else about the cakes. I wouldn't be surprised if the "fix" that was applied after initial complaints wasn't always the planned response knowing this would be unpopular.
-
They're not going to fix it. They're not going to fix anything.
Not unless people uninstall the game, and leave a review listing their criticisms.
Complaining on the internet doesn't really have an impact, if you aren't implementing some kind of action. BHVR gets what they want as long as we keep playing.

IF a survivor suffers from exposed (NOED, dragons grip, FTTE, etc) then special attacks (that would normally deal a dmg state should ALSO insta-down a survivor. For instance - if a survivor is infected and are hit by a nemesis tentacle whip - they should be downed if exposed, if a survivor is hit by a dracula hellfire whilst exposed - they should go down (or if also as drac they are hit by a pounce). Trickster- if he hits 6 lil knives then that should also down - not just 1 health state.
However, for attacks that do not deal dmg (ie hitting a nemesis tentacle whip on a non-infected survivor) then exposed should NOT apply. The whole basic-attack requirement is often incredibly difficult to pull off in many situations (pallet looping, sprint burst head-start, etc).
Nurse is in the game, so we can't have that.
Nurse is also why BHVR is too scared to buff Killer perks.

To be fair killers where the most focused on in the last anniversy so its not surprising its swinigng in the other direction for once.
Terrible arguement. It was bad then and it's bad now. These things should be balanced, not so one sided that half the userbase would rather just play the normal mode.
-
I watched the video till about half way. This is just a rant about everything wrong with the event. Which we have multiple posts of already.
So, no this doesn't really explain anything. We know the event is fudged, and how. You're thread title though implies that this video would explain why and it really didn't do that.

Devs will never learn they take a small step forward up then fall down the stairs.
BHVR won't learn because the playbase isn't willing to commit to teaching them the lesson.
Me leaving a negative review with all my complaints, and then uninstalling the game isn't going to do much, but if everyone who was angry at BHVRs incompetence and greed did it, then BHVR might actually feel that.

That would jumprocket the queue times of new killer characters. I dont know why we need even more roadblocks to try new characters.
Yeah, being able to manually block certain killers is two unworkable for a community as entitled as this one.
I do think some behind the scenes feature then prevents you from matching with the same killer over and over again could be doable, though.
-
I want cakes buffed to 8th anni levels and earlier.
I want my 15 million BP back
I want remote hooking and pallet breaking for Killer in this event, which wouldn't really be enough to counter what we get as Survivors, but it'd make things a bit more bearable.
Even if they do all that, I'm still not sure I'd have it in me to keep playing because BHVR keeps making these kinds of mistakes that anyone would have seen coming a mile away.
Management at BHVR needs replacing, because the decision makers at BHVR clearly have no idea what they're doing.
-
What?
-
No, not thank you for the 5 million.
I spent 15 million already thinking I would get a decent amount of cakes. I want my BP back.
Some people had been saving up even more than that and ended up wasting that.
-
With how much more Survivors get for this event, I'm really not seeing this as a problem.
This is just a horrendously designed event overall that has clearly just not been quality tested.

I just tried it and its fixed, but the cakes are still hard set at specific levels, they just increased the amount of levels that it comes in at. If you do 50 levels for a whole prestige, you will get 27 cakes every single time.
If they're still hard set then it isn't fixed. An actual fix would be having them appear as they did for the 8th anniversary and earlier.
-
If we're going for a Marvel pick then it should at least be from one of their horror titles like Werewolf by Night or Man-Thing.
Maybe have Elsa Bloodstone as a Survivor.
-
BHVR should kill switch perks so that they can balance the game from the ground up so that the core experience can be in a good place.
There is too much going on and BHVR clearly can't figure out how to rebalance the game with so many different modifiers affecting things. Add ons too. Every Killer should be fun to play without the need of specific add ons, and I think both sides just have too many add ons, with most of them being redundant.
-
Looks dope. My only complaint, though, is that she should just be The Princess, and her title changes to whatever reflection she is at the time. Overall, I think the concept is cool.
I'd love a Slay the Princess Chapter.

Theres nothing wrong with slugging though. It counters at least 10 survivor meta perks. Maybe they need to look at the perks instead of a platstyle that generates pressure for the side thats supposed to be the power role. In better asyms, the one was the power role. Evolve is a perfect example. You start off weak but as the match goes on the 4 slowly have to respect you more and more. Unlike dbd when I literally have people unhooking in my face as a killer and being able to get away with it lol
I think slugging has it's place. I'll gladly slug for pressure, or because I want to avoid killing someone to early.
But players shouldn't be forced to just not play the game because one player refuses to engage with parts of it they don't like. The game shouldn't be designed around forcing people to not play. That's bad game design.
There being 10 meta perks that have Killers thinking there's no option is part of the problem, in my opinion. BHVR needs to stop adding more perks and start justifying the amount we have already by diversifying them.

Bond can be both good and bad depending on the intentions of the user. I'd rather have Kindred (minus killer aura read). Knowing where everyone is when someone is on the hook is more valuable than knowing who is right nearby.
Yeah, weaker Kindred would be my choice too. I don't really trust people enough to give them free Bond. I've been sold out to the Killer by bad team mates to many times.
-
Bloodpoints and a free outfit for Wraith and David.
Might get a small amount of iri shards, if they're feeling generous.
Personally I would happily go with all that if it meant they would buff some weaker perks.

Like, no other game I can think of has 4/5 member's that can have all agency removed on them for 4minutes straight while still technically being in play. hell, I wouldn't even care if they removed the cumulative build up. a 2-3min prerequisite unbreakable would have just been nice to deal with some of the most boring matches possible without that abandon feature.
Because BHVR decided to stack this, anti-tunnelling and a Chapter release into one PTB when all of these should have been their own PTBs. And instead of tackling the situation is calm, efficient manner, they paniced and overcorrected by dropping everything, then making the anniversary patch barebones.
As much as I'd like to sling a few words towards the people abuse slugging, it's all on BHVR and their inability see the obvious problems and the obvious solutions.

There are no plans to have live design changes during new content release - history has shown us that this is more problematic in getting feedback on new content as well as the changes.
Then can we have diminishing returns ran back until until enough perks get buffed to justify it? Why are these patches not planned out more efficiently?
That said, we're not asking for anything game changing like the anti-tunnel stuff, which is what I'm assuming you're referring to. Buffing the numbers on a bunch of the weaker perks for both sides would have been something. Not even providing that is inexcusable, in my opinion.
I get that the anti-tunnel stuff was a mess, but BHVR is really throwing the baby out with the bathwater here and souring what should be a massive celebration for the community.

My belief is that the devs just don't have much design space to work with. Over 10 years of content and adding new perks, there's not much to explore with DBD's limited points of interaction that hasn't been done already. Since BHVR avoids changing up the game's formula, there's not much new that could be done.
The perk system needs a complete rework, and they need to stop adding new ones. At least in my opinion.
We're just getting redundant perks more often than not, with annoying prerequisites.
That probably means they need to rework how they sell DLC too.

We're not asking for "a ton" but at least a decent amount of reasonable changes. Also, let's not pretend that devs always listen to feedback nor that balance changes made in mid chapters are not often questionable to begin with. The whole year 2025 was pretty much the perfect example of what I am talking about.
Yeah, the one time BHVR tried to do to much was with the anti-tunnel, anti-slug stuff and those should have been their own PTB each
There's really no excuse for not buffing a bunch weaker perks. Not even reworks, just some cheeky number buffs. Something simple enough that they can run it back if they overdo it.
-
She should uniquely be playable in both roles.
-
None. I pretty consistently run a Scourge Aura Build:
Lethal Pursuer, Floods of Rage, Hangman's Trick and Jagged Compass.
Then I just prioritise anyone I see that's on a gen.
If I use slowdown it's usually because I'm lazy and want to get a "Damage X amount of Gens" quest done faster.
-
BHVR we’re finally working on fixing the game a few months ago, and look where we are now.
Until we they’ve actually implemented a good chunk of these, we shouldn’t be giving them the benefit of the doubt.Personally, I don’t see them delaying DLC releases long enough for us to not be right back here in another few months.
-
Because they don’t intend for players to brute force achievements, I imagine.
It’s one of the worst maps in the game. Barely even a proper map. Playing the game would have been hell if people kept trying to force us there.

On paper, sure, but in practise it would ruin the game. People aren’t going to want to play if they have to deal with people insulting you all the time, terrible mic quality with TVs, fans, and baby’s in the background. A ping system is all we need.

but its fine if survivors stay in the gate until the timer, its fine for me to sit there waiting for them to leave, game is not over by then right?
im sure i can pull a blood warden by praying to the entity or something….
No, the Killer should be absolutely able to abandon when the gates are open too. Literally no reason no to allow that since it just forces the escape they’re putting off anyway.
When I’m slugged on the floor while some selfish bozo is running around the map to find the fourth Survivor, I’m not actually playing the game, am I? I’m just having my wait for the next game artificially extended because some clown can’t just take the win like an adult.
You’re acting like this is an Us vs Them situation when it’s not. Stop starting fights with other players, and redirect your complaints at BHVR.
-
I have no issue with an abandon feature for this too to be honest. I’d limit it until after the gates are opened, though. That way it’s effectively just like forcing them out, but now much more effectively.

I’m about 3k hours, and I still bumble a lot of my chases. Some of us just learn slower.
It’s only around 2k where I finally started having matches where I managed to do well, and even those are partially dumb luck, I think.
Playing Killer helps, as well. Mr TatorHead’s map specific looping guides help, but more so just watching him play. Kyoto’s fairly recent “36 Things you should NEVER do As Survivor” helped me with some things too.

How do killers win “all their games easily” if the average kill rate is 60%? Is your kill rate way higher than 60%? I would really like to know but every time I ask you, you never respond.
Those 40% are just warm up matches, so don’t count, obviously /s
-
I’d rather they stick to skins for this IP going forward. If we do get another Walking Dead chapter, I would want it to be based on the comics, or Telltale. Lee, Clem and Comic Andrea would be awesome. Maybe an all purpose Glen with three default skins, since he’s in all three.
-
People don’t want certain IPs because they either prefer original Chapters, or they just want different IPs.
The general toxicity of this community does exist, but I feel it’s largely overblown. -
Gonna need to see this put into action, and successfully at that, before I trust in BHVR again. We got a promise like this just a few months ago, and look where we are now. Talk is cheap.
-
it’s not a new map. It’s a new tile that sometimes appears on Withering Isle maps if a TWD character is in the game.
Expecting a separate lobby for something so situational is unreasonable. Especially since no one likes playing on Withering Isle as it is. You’d have no Killers queuing for it. -
I’m happy enough for other people to get access to the Deep Rift skins I earned to regular way.
It’s not like we did anything special to earn them, either. We just paid money and played a lot. Not even necessarily well.
It’s incredibly petty and selfish to deny other people these particular outfits, in my opinion.
It’s artificial exclusivity, which is just a manipulation tactic to get you to pay money. Minimising that will always be a win in my book.

Whenever I play both sides, at least 80% of the builds are the same genre perks.
Killer: braindeadly running 3~4 slowdowns
Survivors: Exaustion perks, second chance perks and Windows of opportunity.Doing these doesn't guarante a escape/kills but they still run the same thing like a door swinging back and forth.
I have played using meta perks when I started playing this game for the first time, but soon after the current rank system got released and I stopped that style and the game felt more fun no matter the outcome.Genuine question, how is running/going up against the same/similar perks every single game fun or healthy?
Both sides can play without using meta perks. They just don’t want to.
-
Counterpoint: They should have nerf’d them harder.
The game isn’t balanced enough for players to have say where we play. Until BHVR manages to make every map equally balanced for both sides, then Map Offerings should be removed from the game.
Same with Oak Offerings. Players shouldn’t have a say in hook placement. -
