  • More like don't want to deal with the obvious nonsense they bring.

The fact they acknowledge no one wants to play with SWF proves this.

  • Survival rate means nothing when people can pip up and die at the same time.

Are you guys really still gobbling up their stats?

  • @NoShinyPony said:

The game should be balanced for SWF. Solo players should get a lot more information so that they get closer to SWF-level.

    Noooo pleeeeaaaasseee.

This makes the game super ######### boring. The lack of information is very appealing to me. I have 0 issues playing solo and can get to Rank 1 relatively easily on my own.

Why don't people realize this will just buff SWF as well? Lmao

  • The recent kerfuffle with Ghostface has brought up a lot of emotions, suggestions and vitriol. The last few killers have been met with similar push back.

    I disagree with one notion:

Do NOT hire the streamers. I'm sorry, but we've seen bias in all of these people, and at the end of the day, you CANNOT guarantee that they won't be suggesting things they will make their streaming experience better for them in the long run.

You need to hire people that have no stake in any claim, and people that have BACKGROUND in testing video games and/or people that understand the internal mechanisms and nuances that go into game design. It takes more than just playing games.

You need to study games as a science, because it is. Not just in video games, but designing and testing a games of any kind in general requires knowledge of various aspects. I argue that streamers do not inherently have this understanding simply by playing the game a lot.

This is a job that requires, as you said, professionalism. Streamers are not professionals at testing games.

Not to mention testing is a VERY rigorous and tedious process that involves repeating the same things thousands of times. I don't think any streamer is going to give up easy cash for just relaxing over wanting to tediously repeat the same motions, except this time with no donations.

Personally, I blame the "Let's have fun" crowd not playing ruthlessly enough and thus allowing people who have no business ranking up to rank up.

This is pretty much it. That and the voice comms SWF presents gives much more information to every player.

A SWF has can receive more info than a solo player. This information can easily close the gap between a skilled solo and a Survivor who gets carried hard by his team.

Being able to react 10 seconds sooner that the Killer is headed your way makes a huge difference. Anyone who says SWF isn't unbalanced is seriously dense in the head.

    Agreed and agreed.

    *note: watch Killers down-voting us.

I dont play Killer and I downvoted you.

The Collapse is supposed to be hard for the last guy.

You already had your chance, but the Killer found the hatch first.

This kind of thing goes both ways. Survivor gets a free escape if he finds the hatch. Killer essentially gets a free kill when he finds the hatch.

I'm failing to see what the problem is.

  • Just because something is the best doesn't mean it shouldn't receive criticisms when it does something stupid. Being the best means it has a high standard for itself.

Also, I would argue Evolve was the best. It was just marketed towards the wrong crowd, and the devs began to cater to one side too much, and it eventually died. It's a shame, cause I really did love that game when it launched. I love DbD, but it's only a matter of time until it gets decent competition.

Calling it the best is being generous imo. I would rather call it one of the only asymmetrical games to actually SUCCEED. There's not too many, and that's because this type of genre has way too many variables.

I would also postulate that Identity V is actually more fun and balanced than DbD, and has much more creative ideas for Killers. It's just being mobile only holds it back.

Don't buy the pass then. They gotta pay their employees. Updates and content isn't FREE.

What's the issue with buying chapters and cosmetic items from the shop?

They need MORE money now? And in the most predatory way that isn't loot boxes, by playing on your fear of missing out and potentially causing bad playing habits?

Pfft. I had 0 issues paying for characters and even some cosmetic items. But this junk?

BHVR: we don't want to add any more exclusives

    Also BHVR: lol u thought

  • Guys, I pitched this idea 2 years ago on the Steam Forums and it got nearly 5000 comments and is still going. Dave Richard has seen it. I've talked to @not_Queen about it.

They arent interested in doing this. I really don't see why it's a bad idea. If it doesn't work they can just revert the changes. They change Killers eventually. I don't see what the harm in trying this for a single season to see how it plays out.

  • Correct. I think it would only be bannable in cases of trapping the remaining Survivors in the basement before the End Game, or trapping the last Survivor in a corner before the End Game.

The other scenarios the game will technically eventually end so long as the other Survivors open an exit gate.

  • The fact that this game has a clear lack of what really constitutes as a win/loss helps contribute to why it is so poorly balanced.

Having fun is the goal of every single game. That doesn't detract from the fact games are competitive by nature. Even in Monopoly, you are playing to have fun, but you're always playing to win via bankrupting your opponents. Without a clear lack of achievable goals outside of the ones you set for yourself, a game truly has no purpose, and is less a game and is simply just "play."

DBD is less of a game and more along the lines of free form play. It doesn't have a clear enough foundation of what the specific goals of each side should do. The various responses people provide are evidence of this.

In other games, if you were to ask this same question, there isn't much room for debate as to what is a win/loss. Overwatch literally says Victory and Defeat. Fighting games blatantly tell you "You Lose" in big fat letters across the screen.

As far as a win condition, the closest thing you can get to in this game is a Pip. Pipping indicates that you did enough in the match for the game to grant you a point towards increases your Rank. While this is obviously absolutely meaningless at the moment, it's the closest win condition you have. A loss would be a pip down, and safety pipping is more like a draw.

Imo, BHVR should redefine their win/loss conditions.

Basically Killers want easy 4k and SWF is preventing them from achieving that.....

You shouldn’t expect a 4K every game, and I think that’s where the issue is. Killers expect to steamroll survivors but when the killers get steamrolled by an SWF they come to the forum to cry because they are self-entitled little children.

Steps have already been taken to lessen the impact of SWF groups in the form of nerfing Specific perks which just screws over solo players.

The guy who came up with this idea (me) isn't a Killer player breh

  • @Mochan said:

A DC is a loss. Same for killer or survivor. Loss is loss.

Not everyone plays "the optimal way" that you believe is the only way to play. Survivors take risks because that's how they play the game. If the game were nothing but a killer face camping one survivor and all gens getting done that would get boring fast for everyone.

There are many changes that need to be done to the game. Removing SWF, is neither a smart one nor a good one. Nerfing pallets and looping, giving all survivors more baseline info (like making Bond, Empathy and Kindred baseline), making things like Ruin and NoEd baseline, bringing back old dark and gloomy lighting, and adjusting gen speed times to make them shorter then introducing a second objective that requires you to run around the map, these are all changes I would recommend to fix the game.

Not removing SWF, which is ass backwards. As BHVR themselves said, SWF is here to stay, even if it goes against the original vision. Killers need to accept that and stop stroking that tired old line that "The game was not meant to have SWF!" It's here to stay. Deal with it.

I'm glad you're not in charge of design for this game.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/512268#Comment_512268

A DC is not a loss. Legitimate connections issues exist in this game because it is P2P. Besides, a more accurate representation would be the pip up rate.

You can Rank up without surviving. This means gauging Survivors as "losing" via dying is absolutely pointless and does not even come close to representing the true state of the game. If we were to gauge the Pip rate of Survivors based on whether they die or not would give a better idea.

Some people suicide on the hook for their friend to get the hatch. They might do this because they know they already have a pip and can take a death. Do you seriously consider that a loss? Ranking up but still dying? That's a win dude. No way to twist that.

Also this "not everyone plays this way" is an extremely terrible argument. Any game that cares about its balance will balance the game around the top players. Even Super Smash Bros, a game Sakurai INSISTS is meant to be a casual game, is STILL balanced around top competitive players that are the 1%, simply because of the potential of what can happen. There is 0 reason for DbD to do the same.

Also, you chastising that I shouldn't be on a dev team without even reading my post just goes to show that you have no idea what you're talking about. At no point did I EVER suggest they remove SWF. Not once. Not in my entire Petiton did I ever consider removing it.

Get real and read before you start talking nonsense please.

Also for the record, I literally say in my post that I do NOT want people who use VOIP to be banned. I simply point out Rule 5 to highlight the contradiction in the developers Rules.

  • I'm a pretty tall guy so stealth is likely not gonna do me any favors, I can't really fit into small areas that well.

I can somewhat ignore pain pretty well while I'm hyped up, and I'm not a slouch, so I'd probably be able to survive a trial every now and then.

We're all gonna eat the hook at some point though.

  • @Mochan said:

I feel like people are overreacting to Plague.

Her power basically reads: "Everyone is permanently Broken unless they give me a Machine Gun."

How is that not good? Killers are overdramatizing this. She can still goop up everything, and it's really nasty. She can use her power just fine even if Survivors choose not to heal up.

It's just the same as Hag. You can choose to slow your game down crabwalking everywhere or just run around willy nilly and give in to her power.

I do not understand why people think that being Broken all game, not to mention oozing an awful green cloud that prevents stealth and coughing and vomiting the entire game is an inconsequential thing.

    It's crazy.

Probably because optimal play involves 0 stealth and loops that can keep you safe for a full minute even while Broken.

Yet even with that upset balance the global survival rate is still below 50%.

Clearly more killer nerfing needs to be done.

They also count disconnects in their stats, likely to skew it in their favor that "kILleRs aRe jUsT fInE"

Not to mention plenty of survivors get themselves killed making risks they shouldn't make, such as going for a save against a facecamper. That doesnt mean Killers are strong, it means Survivors are stupid. That statistic means absolutely nothing when Survivors quit, and it means nothing when they don't care about their own lives. All that matters is the Pip, not surviving.

Also, I would like to add that people apparently saying that they are threatening the devs with leaving the game, aren't the SWF players doing the same exact thing? "This will kill the game." "I won't play anymore."

You're literally acting the same. If it doesn't work, the changes can always be reverted.

    Why not at least TRY?

  • Just like when they showed the stats behind how many "people" run Self Care, this seems misrepresented.

Like, we are gauging the percentage of all players that play in queue sizes? You know that entire 50% probably plays with at least one friend at some point?

A better gauge would be to see how many LOBBIES are filled with each kind of player. This makes it almost seem like most matches have all solo players, which I just find hard to believe.

Of course, they give us the info as obscure as possible so that the echo chamber will keep going.

Besides, didn't like 2 years ago they said only 30% of players are solo players? Suddenly 20% more decided to drop all their friends?

    What?

Besides, even just a two man squad upsets the balance, doesnt matter how little it actually happens. It still happens.

Take option A) if you're really convinced about that. No need to be rude about it.

If half the things that are being said here behind anonimity were said in a real life neighborhood, teeth would fly all over the place.

Sounds like a party to me.

Seriously though, I've thought about going to a Con and asking BHVR respectful, yet difficult and uncomfortable questions about their process so that they can't run away from the issue without forcing me out of the Con.

Very few of the developers actually speak with us. It's mostly liaisons between us and them. Pretty ineffective imo.

Corey Barlog for instance was very open about their process for God of War, and would directly respond to and speak with people about the game.

Dave Richard hardly ever shows his face anymore.

While I won’t deny a different dev team could do better we gotta work with what we got, and this unbiased team would know all of the high level things about the game.

I can tell you didn’t watch the video and I think you should to get a better understanding of the concept.

I'm just being cynical for the sake of it.

Seriously though, BHVR should be paying their own QA team that actually has people who understand the nuances of balance and understanding of game design.

The community shouldn't have to volunteer. Someone else said some junk about them being the only studio to make a successful asymmetrical game.

They are also the only studio that doesn't seem to properly test their games before even public tests because lack of a competent QA team.

The reason is because if they did, Ghostface would have never even been put into testing. The QA team should already know his perks are going to be useless. They need an unbiased team? Yeah, I guess that is correct.

They need a proper QA team.

  • The devs shouldn't need an unbiased team because THEY should unbiased.

The best thing for this game is to give it to another developer at this point.

  • Eyy lmao it's hilarious how relevant my post continues to be despite being almost 2 years old. It has the most comments out of anything the community has posted, be it forums or Reddit, yet the devs just don't care.

I have presented my post both to the creative director, Dave Richard, and personally had a one-on-one with @not_Queen over it (love our conversations btw), however, they have made it clear their intentions are to never touch SWF in terms of balance, no matter how much it goes against their original vision and idea that "you aren't supposed to have much information."

I get it, people want to play with their friends. But I'm sorry, balance of the game is more important than people's desire to have fun with friends. The overall health of the game is what is most important, which is why a Ranked and Casual mode are honestly essential to this game.

And to the people that say this game doesn't have the population, when is it ever going to be enough? The game averages around 15k to 30k players. How is that not enough? When will it be enough? 40k? 50k? 100k?

I can tell you right now, if the devs actually focused on making GOOD Killers, fixing the bad ones, and correcting the balance issues SWF presents, this game's population would only benefit from it.

Yknow that 70k it reached during the free weekend? The other 50k likely realized how absolutely tragic the game's balance actually is and ran away. The game is now fluctuating back to around 10k playerbase recently, solely because player's are finally waking up to the nonsense BHVR is doing. Players don't want to return to the game, myself including.

I'm a solo survivor. SWF directly makes my games less fun but no one seems to care about what a solo player thinks. It's absurd how much they cater to the people that don't care about balance. I would dump so many hours into this game if I could just play it the way I did back before SWF was ever made: solitary, alone, with my teammates in the same scenario. No game plans or meta strategies. Just you, your wit, and your opportunities to assist other Survivors. When people perform feats they could never perform knowing information they shouldn't know, it absolutely kills the game.

This game is so sad man, and I still love it. But I cannot play it anymore.

BHVR is afraid of taking risks. That's all this is.

  • This is a line from your recent q&a.

lol no this isn't Identity V or the other games that say victory or defeat. You either live or die and when you outplay someone all game and they facecamp, it's bs. The killer got points out of you and they are satisfied AND they got extra satisfaction from tormenting like a sadist.

That's the freedom the game allows Killer players.

If you wind up on a hook, it's your own fault. Whether or not your outplayed him most of the match is irrelevant. You are rewarded for not going down a single time in the match with an Iridescent emblem.

Get better and don't go down.

Your rules could be cheesed so hard by teams though. Let's break it down...

"People can use whatever perks, items, addons, offerings, etc that they want. Let people go all out, like pretty much all other competitive games do."

First, competitive games DO NOT allow anything goes. All the serious ones have very strict rules. I suggest you actually play in some tournaments and see this. There are EXCEPTIONS, like most fighting games are just the base game. But look at any shooter or sports game tournament and you will see that there are a lot of rules taking out the dumb stuff.

Second, if you do this killers will ALWAYS pick Omega Blink Nurse RUIN NOED pink mori. Like literally nothing else will be viable. Every survivor will pick MOM/DS/Adren and then probably some mix of BT, Deliverance, and Dead Hard. Every one will take a purple medkit with a pink needle, and every one will offer purple myst. That is going to be every game for your tournament finals. This is what we want to avoid, by limiting the super OP stuff you allow for more meta to develop. More killers become viable, more builds become viable, some survivor tactics become viable, etc.

"Two teams of 5. One Killer to each team, 4 survivors to each team. Each survivor group faces the opposite Killer."

This is how you would kill DBD esports. Spectators are a big deal, you want to make sure people are entertained by watching the game at a high level. Do you know what happens when one team has ALL the best players? They dominate the game, leading to very boring eSport scene. "Oh Team Red won again, what a surprise [confetti]". This would just let the 4 best survivors in the world team up with the best killer in the world and BOOM. Unbeatable team. Yes it's happened before. But say teams are 4 players and people have to play both sides, now you open up the door to more variety of players in the top ranks. You can't just have THE BEST on your team, at least not as easily (could still happen but if you are best killer and top 4 survivors in the world kinda earned it at that point).

"The team that gets the overall better Emblem quality is the winner. It's simple, let's people play how they want, and uses a scoring system within the game that isn't an arbitrary made up one."

This is just an awful metric to use. Besides the fact that KYF does not track Emblems, even if they did it's not a measure of skill in a truly competitive setting. We need another metric, which is why time is used. Time is the ultimate factor in this game, and the way the rules are designed is to put the burden of the win on survivors ability to best use their time. Most of the rules apply to survivors time, the only thing that doesn't is killer's time, and the burden of the win is only on the killers when BOTH get a 4k because you have to do it that way.

"As soon as I read your "Olly olly oxen free" stuff, I was like, this is just too much. "

You need the Olly Olly Oxen Free rule or else a survivor who's killer got a 4k in the previous game can just hide and stall the killers timer resulting in a guaranteed win. It's to prevent survivors from cheesing the rules, they should always be playing to escape not to stall the game. This rule does not punish survivors either, they can enact this rule to no detriment to them. It's just there to protect killers from getting cheesed through the timer rules because a survivor just hides the whole game. People WILL do this if you don't say that doing it doesn't hurt your opponent.

Suggest I actually play in tournaments? What exceptions are there? Halo 5 tournaments don't disallow anything. There are official made playlists that have a wide selection of maps, and nearly every weapon is eventually represented on one of the maps, even if no one decides to use it. Overwatch pro league is literally just the game. Rainbow Six Siege, nothing is disallowed in pro matches as far as operators, weapons, or gadget use. Quake literally has everything and allows all tactics INCLUDING spawn killing, something SUPER CHEAP. Nothing is disallowed in terms of gameplay. Literally every fighting game is like this. Where are your exceptions?

Big tournaments that make up arbitrary rules are typically made by 3rd parties and honestly ruin the game by forcing playstyles. Your rules ultimately force certain playstyles instead of allowing true player freedom, including extremely cheap tactics that do NOT break the rules of the game at all. Just because something is cheap doesn't mean it shouldn't be allowed. This is like disallowing time outs in a fighting game. It's absolutely stupid my man. That's exactly what your OOOF rule is, disallowing a win through a time out. You clearly have no idea how to run a proper tournmanet. Even barbarian sports like football have cheap tactics like time outs. It's a strategy, get over it. You clearly get angry any time you lose to a timer. News flash, it means you aren't proactive enough in your gameplay and you need to improve.

Did you miss the part where I said they need to make the whole game balanced before they make pro leagues? The fact you acknowledge everyone would pick Omega Nurse proves this game is unbalanced as ######### and needs complete reworking before ANYONE even thinks of making pro league rules. This is what makes your rule proposals an absolute joke, because you acknowledge the game is unbalanced to the point only one Killer is viable and that you need to come up with stupid crap to make everything else viable. If you have to do that, THE GAME ISN'T READY FOR ESPORTS.

I'm not going to rebuttal your disagreements about what I would find appropriate for eSports rules, because of the fact not a single person upvoted your rules and mine has 4. Yes, I'm absolutely going to adhere to ad populum fallacy here because EVERYONE here knows your rules are useless and completely ruin the game. Sorry, they do.

And the fact you won't admit it and instead blame the community for your bad ideas is just icing on the cake. This game will never be ready for eSports until BHVR starts taking the balance seriously.

Oh, and for the record, I have played in tournaments. I've played in Halo 5, Smash, Killer Instinct, and various other games at the tournament level. Don't even start that nonsense. Your custom made rule sets that force playstyles would never gain a single attendee and your downvotes prove it.

The fact that you're already blaming the community for the hypothetical failure of your idea is a red flag. You're not even willing to consider the possibility that your idea is just bad. It doesn't matter how much effort you put into it, some ideas are just bad, period.

    This

  • It's 50% because they count DCs, when someone DCs it screws the game over, and Survivors at Rank 1 have so much power over the Killer, they legit don't give two flying ######### if they die. They are already the top Rank.

yOu kNow iTs A vIdeO gAmE rIghT?

    God damn, people like you.

    I swear.

Now I know I've disagreed with you pretty vocally on these forums.

However, I will back you up on this. As a consumer, we have a right to complain about a product we spent money on. This mindset he presented is really, really dumb.

    Hello

We are reluctant at the moment at modifying her. First we have other killers who are higher in the list for modification/balance needs. Second thing, our stats shows that she is top killer (4K) at rank one. It seems that once you've mastered her, she can be extremely effective. She definitely has a high skill curve.

Really? You guys are essentially saying that they are straight up making up the data. If the stats say she's 4king a majority of the time then clearly she's at least high tier.

Therefor, if she has an issue then it ought to be traceable to a non-balance issue with her. Or in other words any tweaks should not be made with the goal of making her stronger, but rather simply improving her gameplay loop's engagement.

Now listen. I'm not saying they made anything up.

I am going to say that their excuse that "once mastered she is effective" is pretty silly. Something doesn't always need to be super high skill to be effective. You do know you can make a Killer just as effective by making them require less skill, but giving them MORE options as a result, right?

This just proves you want as few skilled Killers in the game as possible to me.

At least dbd is still alive unlike other neglected, botched behaviour titles. RIP Eternal Crusade.

I think people need to come to terms with BHVR managed to strike gold ONCE in its entirety of the years it has been around, and that was with Dead by Daylight. However, their long standing trend of making questionable decisions still rears its ugly head even in that gold.

Wanna know something crazy? A game I really enjoyed as a kid was made by BHVR and I didn't realize until recently. Mostly cause their logo was much different, and they used a more French looking name so as a very young child, I had no idea who made the game. It is Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time for the ######### PS1. Super old ass game, but I actually loved it as a kid. Today, it's nothing special. It has some unique ideas, but there are also some really weird and sometimes bad mechanics.

I found myself realizing something. This is just how BHVR is. This is something that is inherent within this studio. Another thing I realized. They somehow, someway manage to get their hands on so many iconic franchises, Bugs Bunny, Barbie, and now all these iconic Killers. And yet, they can never manage to create something truly amazing. Unique for sure, but mediocre at best.

Whoever is the billionaire that owns BHVR probably doesn't know much about gaming honestly.

  • It was neat until you flaunted how many hours you have. Just cause you spent 3k hours playing with turds doesn't change the fact you're playing with turds.

Killer chaser emblem is already effected by camping. You shouldn't get free points for being caught.

I'm going to agree with this. You shouldn't be rewarded for losing, no matter how annoying it is to get camped. A distraction assumes you actively distracted the Killer from doing something else. Clearly his entire focus is Killing you. You aren't distracting him from anything. His main objective is to kill you, not stop generators.

  • I have a way easier way of doing this. Here's how it works.

People can use whatever perks, items, addons, offerings, etc that they want. Let people go all out, like pretty much all other competitive games do.

Two teams of 5. One Killer to each team, 4 survivors to each team. Each survivor group faces the opposite Killer.

The team that gets the overall better Emblem quality is the winner. It's simple, let's people play how they want, and uses a scoring system within the game that isn't an arbitrary made up one.

Universal rules for a tournament should simply be how the game is. This is how all fighting games are, they don't tell you that you aren't allowed to use infinite combos for instance if you happen to find one. Or doing cheap tactics such as corner pressure or projectile spamming. The thing is, my idea could also easily be applied to a team ranked mode within the game itself.

As soon as I read your "Olly olly oxen free" stuff, I was like, this is just too much. Going this deep is absolutely painful and unnecessary. Besides, this game is way too unbalanced for it to ever be competitive anyway. Until all Killers are viable at the competitive level, this game will never be able to live in a tournament. Even then, all tournaments I've ever witnessed are a disaster. This really isn't the kind of game that is meant to be eSports and that's ok. Not every game needs to have a Pro League or whatever.
