Could it be that, oh my God, maybe twitchers and youtubers aren't always right? Granted Scott is a great player. But I don't always agree with things he says. Case in point, there are plenty of people here downvoting his comments because people disagree with him.

lol made up rules that half of the community (reddit and steam) also agrees on but the forums are killer sided you want to maintain your clique of "anything to benefit the killer."
I'm a killer main who wants balance for both sides. That's all.
It's not all about me, me, me.
Sorry, but just because other people agree with you doesn't mean you are right. You are appealing to an ad populum argument here. You're a killer main, however, I'm a survivor main that says tunneling is fine. So how will you respond to that?
Again, tunneling is fair. Another reason it is fair is because the other Survivor makes a bad save, and loses points if the person is down. This is why perks like Borrowed Time were made, as well as the buff to Adrenaline that heals you when you are unhooked if the gens are powered.
There are ways around tunneling that exists within the game, yet you are still calling them unfair. I also want balance for both sides.
I also want both sides to pull their heads out of their asses and accept how the game is played after 3 years of existence. Looping, tunneling, gen rushing, camping, these are core game mechanics. Both sides need to deal with these things because they aren't going away. Solving them with self made rules like no tunneling also doesn't solve the problem, it just makes the game more 1-dimensional by removing player choice to tackle problems in the best way they choose.
-
No, it doesn't scale. The most toxic games are at the lowest and highest ranks. The best games are usually around the middle ranks, about 8-12. This is where a lot of great matches occur.
-
@ReneAensland said:

I play to Win.
All the time, but I play fairly and win.
Almost always. And I can provide proof if you're going down that path. Console and PC.
Whatever you deem fair is irrelevant as you are simply a player within the game. Your self made rules of no camping and tunneling are entirely your own creation. Do NOT push the way you choose to play onto other players. That is actually toxic af.
If you got to Rank 1 without camping and tunneling, then good for you bro. I honestly could care less. I got to Rank 1 Survivor without looping and using any perks. It doesn't change the fact that looping is an accepted part of the game now and it doesn't change perks like DS being super annoying. But they are still fair because they exist in the game.
Case in point, camping and tunneling is fair because it has a counter and a downside: genrushing and less points for the killer.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. You are mad people aren't playing the way YOU play. You need to accept that this isn't YOUR game, and your self made rules you attempt to impose onto other players will only make the game more mundane, as every single match would involve 0 tension that you are going to be Hunted down like a wounded rabbit to a hungry wolf. Personally, I LOVE that feeling. I absolutely bask in the feeling of being tunneled and at the brink of defeat, because when I succeed in getting away, the elation and victory I feel is unlike any other.
If you stopped looking at the game in such a 1-dimensional way, you might have more fun.

lol you say "iTS noNe oF yoUr bUsiNesS" yet rant your butt off about your playstyle as if you're not allowed to be judged.
I'm not judging your playstyle, I don't know who TF you are to begin with, all I'm asking is not to be a douche to other players. Is that honestly so much to ask for?
If something is allowed within the confines of the gameplay rules, you taking it at a personal level is a machination of your own creation and you should chill out.
Like you are literally trying to insult players that are simply trying to win lol it's quite comical. The entire point of a video game is that there is a winner and a loser, and sometimes when you lose it is frustrating and anger inducing. This is an inherent thing with any game in general. The frustration stems from feeling like what happens is unfair.
However, it is completely fair. I will explain why. For one, if you got downed and hooked, that's your own fault. Two, this isn't the type of game where you are always in a position to be able to save a teammate, nor always in a position to be able to leave the hook as a Killer. We are assuming someone is trying to WIN, and not playing casually by leaving the hook. Sometimes it IS better to camp. We are assuming someone is striving for victory.
So what this boils down to, is that you don't like people who play to win, aka, the people who seem sweats, tryhards, etc. Words from your own fingertips.
Basically, what I get from all of this, is that ultimately you blame the other player for you own failures (getting hooked in the first place) and you seek to push that aggression onto the player based on the way they play the game.
I must say, that actually makes you quite the bigger douche than they are. This conversation is absolutely pointless.

@HavelmomDaS1 There is a difference between having a bug that makes sense (combo attacks in DS1) and one that makes zero sense (this stupid bug).
Also abusing a bug isn't being "strategic" its exploiting.
Exactly. Whether or not devs choose to keep a bug as a feature or not is up to the dev. This is clearly an unintended bug that never should have happened. Therefore an exploit.
Not every bug enhances gameplay. Some are dumb and should never exist. I never understood the whole, every single bug enhances the gameplay mentality. This isn't Street Fighter 2 or Dark Souls lol

Brady, do you understand how scoring works? I'm going to assume you don't and break it down for you.
When you rescue somebody, you get 1k points. You get another 500 if they stay alive 10 seconds.
Additionally, the entire survivor team loses one benevolence level when somebody is hooked, and get it back if they are unhooked. The person who does the actual unhooking gets TWO benevolence levels for the unhook, but they LOSE two levels if the person is downed in less than 10 seconds.
To me, it seems more disrespectful to the person getting farmed by not taking the opportunity to punish the rescuer by denying them this rank and 1/3 of their potential bloodpoints.
Just letting the victim go free only encourages the behavior.
These people aren't going to see reason man. They take what happens in a video game at the personal level. You can't argue with something that insists legitimate gameplay actions as disrespectful.
Btw, if you sack the quarter back it's disrespectful. You should always let him get the pass off.

Again, saying tunneling is or isn't disrespect is a subjective topic. You are showing you don't know what that means.
It means, it comes down to an opinion. And you are just blatantly disregarding mine because of your own. So yes, you are incapable of a real discussion.
I think tunneling is disrespectful because it's usually in situations where the Survivor is completely helpless and immobile. I.e immediately after an unhook, from the basement, etc. There are other players in the game, and people seem to forget that. So do I think it's disrespectful to take advantage of a player that by no means has the ability to counter play in certain situations? A teammate farms me, I play solo, and the Killer instead of going for the unhooker who could've been easily more punished, decides to go for the easier path and immediately downs me once the unhook animation is done. Yes. Are we all going to agree upon that opinion? No, because it's an opinion. A subjective one.
Do I think it's a dick move to follow a Survivor around for 5 generators, never give up, ignore other Survivors mid chase just because they want that Survivor dead? Of course, there are other players in the game, again. Is that another subjective opinion? Of course.
Do I want to play with someone who's a complete dick in the game? No, why would I? It's unfun. Not that it'll stop me from playing, but when it happens a few times in a row I'm obviously going to take a break from the game and play something else more enjoyable. It's like talking to someone who is just calling you rude names during a conversation. Why would I continue to talk to you if you're rude? It's unenjoyable.
Your assumptions of how I act ingame without any evidence showing of how I do is irritating and your lack of real discussions is more evident than you'd like to see.
You seem to disregard the part where I said, go ahead and tunnel and camp your way to victory. My subjective opinion is not supposed to change how anyone plays. And I will not continue any further discussion until you understand that.
As for the Smash Bros analogy, it really isn't the same. I don't understand how picking a top tier character against a bottom tier is equivalent to tunneling and camping because Smash Bros requires skill at any level of play regardless of Top Tiers or Bottom Tiers. We all know watching your first hook die or just farming someone off of their hooks isn't skill. It's just an easy way to secure kills, which I'll say one more ######### time, is allowed and I have no problem with them doing so. I'm allowed to think it's disrespectful to do so, and the OP asked for opinions.
I completely understand what subjective means homie. The reason I say it isn't disrespectful is because it's a video game, it's art. There isn't a way to be truly disrespectful outside of the end game chat.
However, YOU taking these things as disrespectful is something you choose to do. You getting offended by saying you were "disrespected" is fine, feel however you want to feel. But taking something in a video game at a personal level, honestly, is quite pointless. It isn't going to change how the game is played, and the entire argument is made null when you tell people they can play how they want. So, you'll still be disrespected, even though they aren't meaning to be disrespectful, just playing to win?
The main point I'm arguing is that this whole argument is really pointless and dumb in the first place. Call that disregarding your opinion if you want. I hear what you're saying. But it's actually pointless mate.
You comparing it to someone being rude is actually a bad point. Someone being rude is INTENDING to disrespect you. Someone playing a VIDEO GAME to win isn't being disrespectful. You are TAKING it in a disrespectful manner because you are mad at the way they play the game. There is a huge distinct difference in your analogy, and the fact you can't see this line means you take video game actions on a personal level. That is a problem, just pointing that out. A conversation is on a personal level. A dude camping me on a hook is just trying to win. Annoying yea, but whatever, he's a player trying to win. I could give two shits less about feeling disrespected. As long as he says gg at the end of the game I'll know he was playing legit and not specifically TRYING to make me angry. This is the main difference in being disrespected and being trounced utterly in a video game.
It's like when my buddy plays Villager. He makes me mad as #########. But I keep playing him even though it isn't that fun always. Because it's fun to beat him when I do, and he's a great player.
And sorry, but I will always say the Killer already proved his skill when he downed you and hooked you in the first place. This isn't a team game where people are required to help you. At the end of the day, if you die, it's your own fault and you have no one else to blame for being on that hook other than yourself.

@FrenziedRoach said:
So in a nutshell... you don't want a tunnel? TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR RESCUES

- The rescuer should be ready to throw themselves in the killer's way if they miscalculate and the killer is nearby.

Holy dude take a chill pill. I never said it wasn't allowed or that you shouldn't do it.
You're so opinionated but you disregard so much. It IS disrespectful, and that's something that's subjective not objective. You clearly don't know the difference.
I'm not even going to argue my case with you. You're incapable of real discussions.
Also, your analogy makes no sense.
Um, I am chill? What lol I just disagreed with you mate. Is it cause I said #########? You said ######### to bro. I'm just saying, it's the internet lol.
How is my analogy bad? Tunneling is exactly like doing something like picking a top tier, or making a counter pick in a fighting game tournament. You're doing something that is going to win you the match.
It's hilarious how unhumble you are in gaming. You'd get tunneled and say the guy is disrespectful and never play with him again. While in SF4, Infiltration threw PR Balrog 5 times in a row, and teabagged all apart of a plan to tilt PR and throw his gameplan off. What'd they do afterwards?
They shook hands and smiled, because they know, at the end of the day, it's a game and they aren't going to pass judgment on one another for simply going for victory. Good ad hominem btw. It's much easier to just say I lack the intelligence to argue, than to just come up with a reasonable rebuttal.

I'm not going to say you're wrong, because you aren't.
It's disrespectful imo to blatantly go for the easiest tactic in which the Survivor can be helpless in. Immediately downing them after an unhook and ignoring other Survivors for one Survivor is just a dick move, it's not against any rules, it's not about the health of the game, but it's more just of how disrespectful it is. It's scummy to ignore other people for one survivor, or to keep hooking them immediately after unhooks until their dead because let's be honest,
it takes no skill.I know everyone's going to downvote this post and degrade it, but It just shows to me you aren't willing to get good via less easier tactics and if you continue doing so, what Survivor is going to play this game anymore if that's all that happens to them?
With that being said, go tunnel and camp your way to victory if you so please. There's no rules against it, nor should there be. You'll just be an ######### nobody likes to play with. Facts.
This is like someone who whines about someone playing a top tier character to win in a fighting game tournament. Is it disrespectful to use Marth while your opponent uses Bowser Jr?.
No, you're playing to win. Players getting salty and feeling "disrespected" over a player simply trying to win are the real toxic ones. I don't care what my opponents think of me. It's the ######### internet. You passing judgment over how someone plays a game is toxic af.

You're the same dude that is complaining about losing his fast vault from a standstill or close to the wall. Obviously you know nothing of "depth" because that change actually forces the survivor to not camp windows, forcing your gameplay to have more depth.

Im flattered to be considered a professional.
In my case, I intentionally go my way out to avoid tunnelling people off the hook, even though it costs me the match sometimes. At most, I will simply leave them on the ground. But thats just because of my really empathetic nature (as arrogant as that sounds). However, I can perfectly and fully understand others doing it, whether its a match Im not in, a Survivor on my team or myself.
Tunnelling is with no doubt the most effective way to ensure a victory sometimes. Being down to 3 Survivors really helps. Way easier to keep people away from objectives and apply pressure. It is in no way "sweaty", "tryhard", "desparate" or "a baby Killer tactic". It is simply playing optimally. When people call people tunnelling this, it is usually just out of frustration.
I have said this before, but, if Survivors dont care about the Killer's fun (nor they should), likewise Killers should not either. (Toxicity is something else entirely, doesnt apply to this rule, just to clarify.)
Did you want a cookie for being nice in a video game? You're an asset to us all in DbD cause you don't tunnel. Just kidding, teasing you.
For the record, I enjoy being tunneled. It's called a challenge. Nice killers that give chances are lame af honestly imo, I don't like a boring game where the killer intentionally leaves me. A killer should be opportunistic at all times.
-
Why the ######### are you complaining about a bug fix?
Is this really how low we've stooped? It was useful, but it NEVER should have been in the game in the first place.

The one problem with The Rift is its entire existence. Battle Passes don't belong in games you have to buy. They are a predatory practice that preys on your fear of missing out, which is the point of this thread in the first place.
Plus, the devs said in the past they didn't want to make anymore exclusive items, so basically they are just lying now.

when they announced hallowed blight they said all the skins would be purchasable meaning they made skins that you COULD BUY but were generous enough to allow people to earn some of them through in-game time, so of course they took a long time to get
while i like being able to earn cosmetics or whatever with in-game time, i never expect anything the devs make to be earn-able and anyone who does expect things to be free is entitled gamer
so no you do not have the right to choose to get something for free , that is something the devs gift you
the rest of your argument is all over the place. i am not calling the people who want to pick and buy the cosmetics they like addicts, i am calling the people who have to get 100% of content and cosmetics in a game that will be releasing cosmetics ad nauseam addicts
i am arguing that no player should have any expectation that additional content made for a game will be free
I could care less if it's free. It just should be timed/exclusive content.
-
I have a solution for camping.
Don't get caught. Outplay the Killer.
He's a Killer. His job is to Kill, not be your friend and give you a fair chance. There could be a number of reasons the Killer camps and the only bad one is farming for salt.
Getting revenge on a disrespectful player, ensuring a kill on a particular player, gates are opened, hook close to the 3 gen strategy, Killer is already Rank 1 and has all gear, etc etc, all of these are legitimate reasons to camp.
When looping gets nerfed in the new chapter, then I'll be ok with camping being nerfed. Try playing the game with no perks to work on your fundamentals if you have issues running away and surviving.

Ill just leave this here
This is a terrible argument. Battle Passes are a predatory practice that preys on people's fear of missing out, and promotes unhealthy habits like grinding for long periods of time in order to not miss out on content.
The people who say it's "cosmetic only" really are downplaying the voices of players that strive for 100% in the games they play. A Battle Pass also incentivizes players to play only one game, and favors those that have too much time on their hands, and not those that have full time jobs or college. It's a very anti consumer practice that people really shouldn't be apologetic towards. God forbid you're interested in MULTIPLE games that have passes, like Apex Legends, Fortnite, Dauntless etc etc. It's extremely anti consumer.
The only way I'll be ok with the Rift is if they put the cosmetics in the store after the season ends, considering they told us they don't want to make exclusive content anymore. So they possibly are going back on something they said in the past.
Wouldn't be the first time honestly. And no, I'm not going to forgive the Rift being there just cause we have the Archives. All content added to a game should be accessible for the duration of the game's life span. This goes for every single video game ever made. This also isn't a F2P, so the fact someone has to either pay for more content that isn't DLC chapters, or spend dozens of hours grinding to get the necessary Shards is really putting a bad taste in my mouth. It isn't about caring what OTHER people spend their money on. It's about bad business practices that prey on certain aspects of the human psyche in order to generate artificial playtime.

Considering they said they weren't going to do Exclusive skins anymore, yea, yes it does. Also as a completionist and someone who goes to college/works part time, I can't dedicate all my time to grinding out time cosmetics. These should be permanent additions to the game.

@EqMonkVeeshan Loot boxes are fine too if cosmetic only.
The only people to come under fire over lootboxes is EA because they add p2w elements like character stats in battlefront and fifa with card packs.
People love Overwatch and thats a $60 game with lootboxes?...
Loot boxes are gambling. There is a reason a bill is introduced into the US House now to make loot boxes classified as gambling, like other countries such as Belgium have done.
Whether or not something is P2W is irrelevant. Loot boxes are exactly like a slot machine in every single way, and therefore can be constituted as gambling. It doesn't matter if you don't personally get back money, because of the system of how loot boxes work, and how they trigger the same exact dopamine paths that gambling triggers.
Even if cosmetic only, loot boxes are a disgusting practice that cause addiction in people, especially young children. They do not belong in gaming at all.

Tbf, its only cosmetics so i wouldnt really give a #########. If it was legit pay to win id be pissed, but its not so idc
So you gain or lose nothing since you don't care.
Let the people who want to voice against it voice against it. Since you don't lose anything if it never happens, since you don't care.

Thank you, that is exactly what I am talking about. And the devs plan to release something like this every 3 months if I remember correctly from the chart.
The people that are ok with this stuff because it's "just cosmetics" shouldn't even get into the discussion, since it's just cosmetics right? These people don't lose or gain anything since they don't care, so honestly their opinions are moot to me.
The only other people that want Battle Passes are people who want "OG" gear. It's sad honestly, because not everyone has the time to put in for this stuff. Everything in a game should be always available, this goes for absolutely every single game.

The ability to gain the cosmetics outside of the battle pass such as in the store, or making it non-timegated, is important to not encourage unhealthy play patterns (= playing too much to grind out the pass before it expires)
I put in 36 hours straight in Fortnite during Season 4 to try and get the last bits of content because I go to college, so I can't commit to stuff like this. It's a disgusting anti consumer practice that preys on peoples desire to gain 100% in a game.

Not mixing them up. I meant it ties into the Archives really well. The rift also adds more story-based skins in addition to what you get from the Archive itself. It complements it. It's a battle pass that complements a soon-to-be baseline feature of the game.
I, for one, like exclusive cosmetics but either way we're getting a lot of new skins.
And buying it is completely unnecessary if you don't want to. From the looks of things, you can spend shards as well.
I think it's a win-win tbh
Until I go and see the possible price for Shards, that could require me to put dozens of hours into the game just to get the priviledge of getting timed exclusive stuff. No thank you, Battle Passes are almost as bad as loot boxes in terms of predatory practices.

Good

Battle Passes in general are a very anti consumer system. Also those that say "lol it's just cosmetics" downplay the players that play games to collect or 100% games, and Battle Pass systems with timed exclusives are extremely disheartening.
If the cosmetics can be gotten from the shop afterwards, this complaint is null and void.

No, they said it would be timed stuff. It would be great if they put it in the store.
