  • So you're the one who actually likes RPD ๐Ÿ˜…

All kidding aside, there were very very very few people on either side of the coin that liked RPD. I had even said when it was first announced that the RPD was a huge place in the game and would be way too big for a DBD map and that was proven correct. I'll still play the map because I just let the RNG chips fall where they fall but RPD is very rarely an enjoyable experience for me on either side of the game...

The mother cat is actually picky with where she sleeps. She refuses to sleep on any bed I buy for her. Instead, she prefers sleeping on a plastic box, an old back pack or on my bed as long as no one else is sitting on it. The kittens sleep on everything. I bet they would attempt to sleep on hot coals if given the chance.

I forgot to compliment Holly earlier! She is a cutie! I want to rub her ears between my fingers soo bad!

Yeah, kitty sleeps where kitty wants and all you can do is give them comfortable spots and hope they choose them :D

Currently Holly has...approx 6 sleeping spots (chair in Holly room, heating pad in my room, my bed in my room, office cat tree, living room cat tree, and living room heated bed) pending whatever goes on in-between those ears of hers. In the winter, you can add the 7th spot in the bathroom where the heating vent is on the floor.

She used to sleep in my bed when I was also in my bed but that only lasted a few days. I don't know if she decided she didn't like it, she preferred the heating pad (which is right next to my bed so she gets the "security" of her human while getting her own space), or if she gets mad at me because I accidentally punched her that one time ๐Ÿ˜… (I was turning over in my sleep and woke up because my hand hit something! Turns out it was a Holly...)

The very first time I ever played DBD, someone sent me a voice message on PS4 and told me I was trash and blah blah blah lol

I also responded "lol!" because I genuinely laughed. I couldn't believe someone would do something like that, let alone think it would bother me. Of course I was terrible! It was my very first time ๐Ÿ˜‚ And so what? Being bad at a game has no bearing on my worth or confidence.

I've found that most people who are jerks will respond to LOL in one of three ways

    1. They'll keep mocking you, in which case you just keep saying LOL and they get more and more unhinged
    2. They leave
    3. They get SUPER pissed that them being a jerk isn't having an effect on you

At least for two of those three, I get to have some fun with it :D

I did not look but I did upvote.

    I hope this is acceptable.

That is acceptable. For being so polite, you can also look at Holly's picture in this thread

Also OP: I ended up buying two different heated pads (one is a pad I have to actively turn on and one is a bed). I'd strongly recommend getting this heated cat bed if that's something you're looking for

Buy K&H Pet Products Thermo-Kitty Cat Bed, Mocha, Large at Chewy.com. FREE shipping and the BEST customer service!

It turns on automatically once the cat is in the bed (it's got sensors in it that detects when something is in the bed) so unlike the pad that I also have, you don't have to remember to turn it on. I bought the large one (I've shown pictures of Holly in it here in the past, the large one is probably bigger than you'd need with one kitty but there was such a little price difference at the time that I went big, it looks like right now it's the same price for either).

Although like all of this stuff I've talked about, every cat is different. Holly uses that bed constantly but my co-workers cat (who I also recommended this bed to) never uses theirs according to them. I would imagine most cats though would love this kind of thing as cats are heat seekers.

    PXL_20220817_032240681.jpg

  • I am here to third'ed Jackson Galaxy. A LOT of the stuff I do for Holly is specifically due to watching his videos (his Youtube videos on cat basics as well as his show on Discovery, My Cat From Hell. While Holly is a perfect angel of wonderfulness, that show can still teach you a lot on what NOT to do with your cat as the vast vast vast majority of "problem" cats aren't the cats, it's the owners actions).

    For your questions...

Blinds: I actually don't keep any blinds because then Holly can't look out the window :D I have curtains on a few windows but curtains allow Holly to go around them and look outside

Computer Chairs: I just accept that it might get poked around but if you give the cat other stuff to scratch and move them away from the chair to the scratching posts any time they try to scratch it (or other furniture), the cat will learn pretty quickly they should scratch the posts and not the chairs or furniture.

Scratching Posts/Towers; I have two towers, one giant multicat one and one little one for the office. Both of them have twine ropes on them for scratching, though both are carpet covered. I'm sure you can get uncarpet ones but I've never actually seen one. The main thing to keep in mind is that different cats like different surfaces so it's a good idea to buy not only a cat tower (which will have a vertical scratching post) but buy a few of the cheap cardboard ones that are flat and angled so that you can see if your cat likes different ways to scratch. I'd highly recommend Chewy.com for a site to see all kinds of scratching devices as that's where I have gotten most of my scratching stuff.

Liter: I just use the standard stuff that I get from Costco (Scoop Away) and have just kind of accepted that the area that the kitty litter in is going to get a bit messy as no matter what you use, most cats will by their nature bury their doody (which means they're going to kick litter, which means at least some is going to go out of the box). The main thing to remember is to have 1.5 boxes per kitty (so if you have 1 kitty, have 2 boxes, 2 kitties, 3 boxes, etc). Also don't use any kind of smelly stuff with it. I know it can smell funny but as long as you clean it out once a day or so, it shouldn't ever really smell and cats LIKE their own smell and generally do not like fresheners. I would also recommend buying a Litter Genie (Search for it on Chewy but basically it's a trash can that closes in on itself so it's easier to take out and the poop doesn't sit out and smell in your garbage can).

Brush: Holly is a short haired cat so I just have a standard cheap brush that I barely use :D

Now a few things you didn't ask but I'm going to say anyway :D

Water: Get a water fountain ideally. Cats naturally do not drink water and in the wild, standing water is bad to them as it breeds bacteria. They might drink from standing water in your house but ideally it is running water

Food: I am a big proponent of wet food diets. All Holly gets is wet food as cats naturally do not drink water (as stated above) and wet food let's them get all their hydration they need. It is a bigger pain in the butt (you can't leave it out like you can dry food and it's more expensive) but at least some wet food is better than no wet food at all. With that, do not have your cat be a grazer. Wet food is where this actually does help but cats should ideally have 3 to 4 "meals" a day rather than just having food out at all times. Cats have the stomach size of a ping pong ball so keep that in mind if you do the meals setup.

Toys: Different cats respond to different toys. Holly LOVES these cheap ass 50 cent toy mice so hopefully your cat will too but try a bunch of different toys to see what they like. For Holly, she also loves feather wands but HATES bells, which I found out when one of the feather wands I bought had a bell on it and she was TERRIFIED of the thing. I'd also recommend looking at a kicker toy.

Play with your cat: If "My Cat from Hell' has taught me anything, 85% of cat problems are because they have too much energy. You don't need to spend a ton of time with this as cats are "Sprint" animals in that they play hard and get tired quickly (at least 10-15 minutes a day is ideal) but play with your cat. It's amazing how many people get cats and just ignore them because they think of cats as this independent creature that doesn't need love and care. Seriously, so many cat problems are solved if you just play with your cat and get their energy out.

Cat TV: For the times when you're out and can't, give your cat some Cat TV. JG has a video on this specifically but for me, I have multiple bird feeders outside my house and a squirrel feeder in the backyard. This brings all kinds of critters around for the cat to watch out the window. Cats LOVE it (even though Holly sounds miserable as she sits there and chatters like a crack head coming down from a high, evidently they love watching like that). Even if you can't setup animal stuff like I have, just having windows the cat can look out can really help as they'll sit there and watch the outside world

...I think that's about everything I have to say about kitty cats. Hopefully something in my long ass rambling post is helpful.

I got stuck with the last surv challenge of tome 1, "stun the killer 4 times with pallet"for such a long time that i can relate to some of the survs dropping pallets randomly.

That one took me forfreakingever cause I was never willing to just waste pallets going for the challenge and most killers respect the pallet at my MMR. Just eventually finally had a random game when I managed it. Got my 4th pallet in the EGC

  • I think the vast majority can be done without throwing the game

The problem though is there are many players who, either due to their own life time restraints or they're just impatient, do throw the game to get their challenges done.

Like as a killer when they have the "throw X pallets during a chase" challenge, I found many games where a survivor would actively find me, provoke me into a chase, and throw every single pallet in said chase they could find. It's a challenge they COULD do naturally if they just played a few games but they want it done asap so they piss away all the pallets in one chase and screw everyone over as all the pallets are now gone.

Well I guess that comes down to playstyle, i dont use either but kindred just allows for that mega gen efficiency and give you warning of killer direction and other survivor locations/worked on gens all in one every time they get a hook.

Bond just annoys me when I see people not doing anything, and often in my lobbies people dont care about healing too much they just push gens or use a medkit (usually heal after a gen or save etc. Depending)

Ultimately playstyle is a big part of it, so you're 100% right there. There's not really a "right" or "wrong" answer to what perks to use (except Self Care of course, that is the wrong answer :P)

But as you also said and others have said, perks are a band-aid fix at the very best. Solutions to these kind of issues shouldn't rely on people running peks, especially a perk that is locked behind a paywall.

  • @EntitySpawn said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3127704#Comment_3127704

Remove bond, its pretty pointless tbh...

Kindred is good, windows is another amazing one (helps you find unused loops and also gives you info where the killer is if you see a pallet drop.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/340684/so-nobody-is-gonna-complain-about-camping-anymore

Eh it's a perk, so band aid fix which most perks are and that's not really addressing anything and that goes for both sides

I disagree, if anything, I'd remove Kindred over Bond.

Bond gives me so much information that is super important that I feel naked without it. I can see where my teammates are doing gens. I can see where my hurt teammates are to heal. I can see where my teammates are when I need a heal.

It also has some nice indirect benefits that I use a lot. If I can hear the heartbeat but I can see my teammate is running around, I know I'm safe to stay on this gen because I can see the killer is chasing someone, not coming to me. If I am being chased and I see my teammate is fixing a gen or being healed to my left, I know I should cut right so that I don't accidentally lead the killer to them.

I love Bond. It's one of my favorite perks when playing survivor

  • I doubt it. As a Solo Survivor, I already feel like my hand is forced to use Kindred and Bond just to be able to have the same info as a SWF. Perk space is already at a premium for me and a perk that might come in handy the few times I run into a camper doesn't feel like it will be worth it to me.

But have you seen the elusive bully squad that doesn't last second switch? The ones who already have four flashlights the moment you join the lobby?

    Those are worthy of respect.

I've had them show up to but usually they're not bully squads in my experience when they start with the flashlights in their hand.

Or if they are, they're usually bad at it ๐Ÿ˜…

  • @Rovend said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3122793#Comment_3122793

How is it dirty to switch characters in lobby? Man, i honestly believe that killers take everything a surv does as a justification for tunneling/camping.

If they want to play with four flashlights, they obviously have to do some last second switching or the killer will see and put lightborn negating all items at once

I wouldn't put lightborn on because flashlights are generally very easy to deal with.

But very few teams all switch to flashlights at the last second because they intend to play normally. I've never in my time playing this game seen four players switch to flashlights last second and end up not facing a bully squad.

  • It's one of the few times when "sporting" Tippy (no tunneling, no slugging, no camping) goes away. I do my best to play nice and fair but if you're going to try to do me dirty like that, two can play at that game...

My chinchillas ignored the hammock for half a year and we decided to let it hang in the cage as deko. I even tried to hide treats on it to make them more used to it without succeeding.

now during the heatwave both started to use it!

I think my main issue is that Holly doesn't really "Need" the hammock. It's one of those hammocks that sticks to the window so the cat can lie in the hammock and look outside but I have it setup in my house that all directions, there is a window and a way for Holly to sit at said window and look outside. My office window has a cat tower at it, my guest/Holly room has a big cushy chair setup next to the window so she can sit at it, my bedroom has a night stand with her heating pad at it, and my living room has a nightstand with her heated bed at it.

My God that cat is so spoiled but LOOK AT DAT FACE AND TELL ME SHE DOESN'T DESERVE IT FOR BEING SO GD CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean, you can stomp a baby killer whether they are a Nurse or a Trapper.

I think my problem is that this update has made the game more stale. There isn't really anything that stands out as "threat" is more like we know you suck at chases but now you have more time to end a chase and have your hand held. Not to mention it has overbuffed killers with high mobility and also made it more of a chore to play survivor. The game for me has lost a lot of it's casualness.

Baby killer was probably the wrong word. I should have stuck with M1 killer :D

I don't think your complaint is invalid, it's more about what you want out of the game. For me, I like the more...competitive for lack of a better term edge that the update gave the game. I feel like surviving should be rare in a game like this and the only reason you do so is because either the killer is actually a baby killer (in which case, they shouldn't be playing against me but this MMR is goofy sometimes) or because I actually played very well.

There is absolutely work to be done still as there are some perks that are heavily stacked against the solo queue player (something like Overcharge sucks for Solo because you have no way to communicate to others what's going on so you might get a gen almost done, have it get Overcharged, and lose everything just because you couldn't tell anyone to go tap that gen while you were hanging around on the hook) but personally I like the direction the patch took the game in. But I can understand why others may not, especially if you prefer the more casual nature the game had.

  • Maybe the years of solo queue has desensitized me to dying all the time but I'm actually pretty happy with that last patch and where it put Solo Queue.

While there are certainly things that could make it better and more in line with SWF (specifically those icons that were supposedly in development at one time but evidently they've changed their mind or something), I like the much more difficult survival in the current state of the game. I can go up against M1 killers and actually feel somewhat threatened and escaping actually feels like I accomplished something now instead of just stomping some baby killer.

Campers are still a major problem but campers were a major problem pre-patch too and I've yet to hear a suggestion that I didn't think was either easy to abuse by survivors, unfair to killers whose only option is to camp at the time, or both.

  • Holly has a hammock because she's spoiled rotten but she never used it ๐Ÿ˜ญ

  • I strongly disagree, I thought the movie was really good

The movie made it clear that she knew how to handle weapons and fight. She struggled a little bit to actually hunt going after the deer in the beginning but the movie showed that it wasn't because she couldn't handle a weapon and she could hunt just fine as we saw her take down multiple rabbits later.

Everything else you've got is nitpicky kind of stuff with suspension of disbelief. I don't care that a hatchet isn't something you'd chuck at trees. I don't care that her rope was essentially indestructible. I don't care about the magic plant that acts really fast isn't very realistic. I don't care that her bait was a fat dude that she would have struggled to move in real life.

Overall the original Predator is still king of the mountain but that's a classic action movie so it would be hard to top that. Prey wasn't the best movie in the world but it was fun (especially the fight scene with the trappers v Predator). It likely won't hold up as a classic like the original movie but it was well worth a watch, especially since there really hasn't been a good Predator movie since the 90s

Maybe expecting to die from years of solo play has numbed me from worrying too much about dying after this patch but I love that there are now very few matches where my team just absolutely curb stomps the killer.
