The classic “let’s nerf a bad killer” thread.

Ah yes a strong killer that takes three M2s to down someone.

Strength has nothing to do with whether or not a killer is fun to play against though? Take Clown for example, he's one of the weakest killers in the game and it's still a horrible time vsing him.

  • SA servers are nemesis only. I kinda miss Spirit?

  • Pretty much what I expected. Just think it's kinda funny to see people acting as if vsing Oracle-tier teams is a real thing you should fear willl happen to you with any frequency at all and therefore is something the game should be balanced around. It's a Wraith, no kidding he's gonna do terrible against the best team in the world.

yeah its annoying (im killer main) but i have a galaxy brain idea. push them out of gate = no survivor at gate = happy killer

Where is your Nobel Prize, sir.

  • Nurse doesn't need a nerf.

  • No, it's been fixed a while ago, you're free to use it without feeling guilty :D

  • Um. Might be a dumb question. I use native resolution but I do have NVIDIA filters. How similar are those to this ReShade thing? Is it bannable?

  • Yeah you pretty much already know what the issue there was - latency. Hits are at their best state in a couple of months and there's nothing much bhvr can do about players' bad connection.

Also this was a terrible example to complain about, you'd just go down 2 seconds after this because you literally dead harded into nothing.

  • Wasn't sal_gu's "experiment" conducted when combinations like omega blink were still a thing and missing blinks wasn't nearly as punishing because the cooldown wasn't there? Yeah that nurse did get reworked.

Also, I'm siding with the first comment on the forum post you linked. This game shouldn't be balanced around the top players as it isn't meant to be a competitive game.

  • Twins. I mentally prepare to die as soon as I hear the noise it makes when Victor is released.

  • Me. I hadn't even started to play the game when the event happened. Not complaining though, lol.

  • Play killer if you want the charm.

  • Although I feel kinda bad when I have to play her for a daily, it's nice having the feeling of actually being intimidating for once after spamming my subpar nurse and bubba for some dozens of matches. Simple to pick up, extremely efficient.

  • He seems to have been one of the most fun killers to go against from the videos I've watched. I have 120 hours in the past two weeks and I think I might have seen him twice in that period? I really wish I had started playing before his nerf. It's really a shame.

  • SWFs don't choose the rank of the killer they go against. Ideally there shouldn't be a need for one to sacrifice their own fun for the sake of others, it's really the game's fault. Blaming survivors who have no control over who they're going against is definitely not the way to go.

  • I don't think any reasonable person disagrees that keys need to be changed/removed. But I really struggle to understand why SWF is a problem. There's only so much communication can do for a group, people don't become unmindgameable gods because they're on discord with each other. Even when I'm not playing Nurse, my main, I have a hard time distinguishing a 4 man SWF from a decently organized solo queue team. Besides, most people play with friends to have fun, not to practice for competitive tournaments. Some SWFs are even easier to kill because of that.

Splitting queues like that would kill the game. Killers that are scared of the almighty swfs, which it seems are the majority, would obviously always opt for going against solo queuers, SWF's queue time would get too long and they would only go against 1/4 of the killer roster all the time, they would drop the game for something better, and it wouldn't take long for solo queuers to start quitting as well given that solo queue is provably the weakest role in the game.

  • I really enjoy going against Billy (as someone who started playing after the nerf, not sure how he played before it) and Nurse.

Twins and Deathslinger are currently competing for the spot of my least favorite killer to vs.

  • They'll just get one from a chest anyways, lol.

  • Not that I condone it, but some people want easy games. I remember struggling with derankers when I was newer to the game, both as killer and survivor. It feels scummy but I don't think there's more than can be done about it after the dc penalty was added. Now we just get AFK killers and suicidal survivors.

  • Enjoy not being able to get chase points and being punished for dcing if you don't feel like sitting on gens all game.

the problem is all killers must be viable.

and yet killers like trapper and trickster exist to be so laughably weak.

How can killers compete with SWF?

SWF can't complain there is only nurse and spirit killers because it's not our fault they are the only 2 viable killers

Where does this "the only 2 viable killers are Nurse and Spirit" idea come from?

  • In my opinion most of the complaints come from a place of frustration due to the proportions regarding killers' powers. Spirit is too strong for how easy (will talk about the word 'easy' later) her power is to use and for how little impact survivors' input has on it. Given she's not running stridor, which would make any chase a guaranteed down in a matter of seconds, Spirit is the only killer in the game who's truly able to turn chase interactions into coinflips. With most if not all other killers the survivor has an opportunity to turn the chase around in their favor; You can bait a Huntress into throwing a hatchet through a window by pretending you're gonna vault it, you can misdirect the Nurse or double back into her blinks, you can even get yourself in a position where the Deathslinger won't be able to completely reel you in even if he lands the shot. It's not all up to the killer - there is a real chance for people to survive in a lot of scenarios against those killers. With the Spirit however you're only really safe if you're uninjured or drop a god pallet the killer has no choice but to come out of phase to break such as the shack pallet. 'Crouch tech' isn't reliable because she can still hear footsteps/grass or deduce where you are based on where the scratchmarks stopped, stand still and she can hear you breathe, dropping weaker pallets will put you in a 50/50 situation the spirit can easily counter by just staying in phase a little longer to hear which side you're in... Hell, you can't even rely on Iron Will because a good number of spirits run stridor.

Even though I'm a survivor main, I've played tons of killer so far. Especially Nurse. Nurse is a mechanical challenge, you need to learn how far your blinks go, learn to play around survivors' mindgames, teach yourself not to blink into the basement (i've done that countless times. it happens, believe me), learn how each addon modifies her power and which ones you like the most, where you can and can't blink to, learn how to flick in order to mindgame survivors... And all that is just basic stuff you need to do every chase in order to catch any middle/high tier survivor. Nurse is a difficult killer and we both agree on that.

What, mechanically, is there to learn with the Spirit? You know exactly how long your power is going to last, you have a great idea of where the survivor is, all of that without the survivor having any input. That's what puts her below most m1 killers in terms of difficulty IMO. It's basically a singleplayer game. There is no challenge, all you need to be better than your average Spirit are good headphones really. Mine are about 400 pounds, not the best in the market, but they suffice, most my games are boringly effortless when I play Spirit. Oops, I heard your footsteps, oops, now you're standing still but I can still hear your breathing, guess you take a hit. Maybe play around my hearing a little better lol.

With most m1 killers such as Pig, Trapper and Ghostface you at least have the skillcap of mindgaming (no, you don't have that with spirit, no, standing still is not a mindgame) and tricking the survivors into looping the way you want them to, all the while having their input and actually having to worry about the possibility they might counterplay anything you do. They're comparatively harder than Spirit. It's not like killer is too difficult, anybody can get good with any killer and destroy almost any team, but I think there's a sensation of unfairness when getting to that level doesn't take as much effort as it should.

  • Yup. Knock yourself out. At least that's the message the devs seem to be sending lol.

  • Well it's not hard to rank up, that's why. I also hope you don't have your hopes up for the sbm system that's coming soon because I had never gotten past rank 13 when the experiment happened and I was getting matched with all red ranks every match. You're always gonna see people who play worse than the average for your rank, maybe a little less after the change. Plus SWF is still a thing so people will keep on bringing their beginner friends into your games. Nothing anyone can do about it.

What rank are you because in red ranks most survivors are somewhat decent. Below red ranks I agree with you.

    image.png

I have like, 300h in the game. Not saying I'm good, actually the exact opposite: it doesn't take skill to get to red ranks, it's really just about how much time you put into the game every month, now time put into the game does have some sort of correlation with experience but if you can't apply that it's just no good, and that seems to be the case with a lot of survivors in red ranks. Sometimes you DO get the very good survivor, I like to leave them for when the match is under control. If ALL survivors are just a lot better than me then I have no problem with taking an L here and there. Happens and, again, rank doesn't mean anything so I don't care about what number is shown besides my name.

  • Even though I don't feel like reading everything I'm pretty sure it's been said by someone: I wanna make sure my teammates are fine. Once I'm sure of it I leave. I'll stay in the gates for as long as I need to make sure I don't have to go back in and rescue anyone.

  • I get where you're coming from but people who don't feel like playing a match just aren't gonna do it even if you try to force them to. What I think it's gonna happen regarding people who want to quit games after this new struggle mechanic is added is people are just gonna start afking under hooks or running towards the killer to get downed again as soon as they get unhooked. There's no major advantage a survivor team will get from somebody who doesn't wanna play staying in the match other than maybe 20 seconds (tops) it'll take for the killer to redown them and rehook them, in my opinion.

  • Killer stopped being stressful for me like a month into playing. Most survivors are potatoes and rank means nothing so the most that's going to happen if I lose is I'll chuckle a bit at them trying to mock me in pgc then move on to another match. Try setting goals other than getting 4k's every game, that's too unrealistic (not because you're bad, but that sorta win is not always up to you, map rng, survivor items and your killer's limitations are not under your control and must be taken into account). I personally feel like I've done a decent job once I get 4 barbecue stacks. Then I just have to make as many bp as possible because they'll be doubled. My win.

  • Survivor because I have so much fun in chases while as killer they're just stressful.

  • If each side can ban one map, I think it's cool. One question though, what happens if for example two survivors vote for a map, the killer votes for another but the third and forth survivor, purposefully or not, keep from voting? Wouldn't that still force the killer to play on said map since it has the most votes?

  • Distortion should have ways that allow you to get more stacks. Saying this again because I just love that perk.

  • @Lx_malice said:

I'm a bit confused on what exactly you're reffering to here. Do you mean Nurse's who try the challenge where they let the survivors do all the gens and then slug in endgame?

Don't think so, he's just complaining about nurses that slug lol. There are indeed Nurses who like to slug everyone when given the opportunity, but then again who doesn't. It's just easier to do it as Nurse, especially when survivors stay packed together instead of forcing them to use multiple sets of blinks to traverse the map.

  • Autohaven were my favorite maps pre rework. Then I learned to like Coldwind...

  • Dead Hard is by far the worst. You did great and landed accurate blinks as nurse? E. Finally catching up to them as a slow killer on a strong jungle gym? E and back to the window they go. Such a crutch.

  • South American servers are great, although sometimes (usually during the afternoon) they seem to get temporarily disabled and the game sends us to NA servers for like half an hour.

  • Take a look at this match I just had

    image.png

Don't worry though, guys, you can still end the game so rest assured the people who abuse this will not get punished!

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/243869/yeah-people-are-abusing-breakdown

Its funny how many killer mains complain about breakdown now and using pallet stun glitch at the same time. Nearly every killer i got since pallet glitch tried to use it for their favour and hit me through every single time, so im not even sad that people are abusing this for you guys.

I'm literally a survivor main who respects every pallet as killer.

  • Not the killer's fault, but Twins is exceptionally good at slugging. Being on the ground for some time does annoy me quite a bit.

  • And people brag about double pips.

  • Seeing this guy in DBD would take me back to the times I found myself crouched in a corner unable to moved because I was too scared he'd be waiting. Damn it took me ages to get past his part. I just don't know what kind of special ability he could be given.

  • The one without a broken revealing mechanic.

  • I would love to see them buff Distortion. Maybe add ways to get more stacks such as saving or completing gens. I just really love this perk but you only get 3 uses out of it per match which is kind of a bummer.

  • Honestly I don't know why I didn't expect this to turn into a killer vs survivor discussion as everything does in these forums. That's my bad. Thought I said something pretty basic anyone who wants this game to be healthy should just agree with. Really didn't mean this to look like one of these "survivor bad" posts but it seems you can't talk about something a specific side suffers with without it being interpreted as an attack to the other side. So immature lol.

  • @Seanzu said:

I play dbd a lot and had no idea about this bug until about 3 hours ago when i read another thread about it, people shouldn't be abusing it but you're not doing anyone favours by bringing it up in the forums it's just making users more aware and more likely to use, it's best to file a bug report and hope it's fixed in a timely manner.

Sorry. I'd really dislike it if this were another situation like the nurse fatigue cancel where people ignore it and the devs take months to adress the issue.

(EDIT) Fun fact: The most detrimental part about fatigue cancelling, swinging, is still in the game. Anyone with a macro can do it every single time without fail and it still gets people a lot of hits... Even though it shouldn't be in the game!

  • It especially sucks when the survivor decides to be a scumbag about it after the game ends like they did anything to deserve escaping, or when you need that one kill for a daily or tome challenge, or when you're one hook away from getting a perfect game and the survivor finds it before you... Hatch really does suck. If the survivors get to the point where hatch becomes necessary then they've already lost and should just have to accept it.
