So here's where my thoughts are on this one. Personally I'd be ok with letting the ladies come out here in to the fog and have some bloody fun. No issues with that what so ever. My question is, what kind of big IP is out there that is a female horror icon, as in the killer, who is not a skin, but the actual character? I can't think of any off the top of my head outside of the girl from the Ring. That said though, if BHVR wanted to make more of their own unique female killers, I'd be more than down for that and in fact I encourage it.
Personally I want to see more unique characters in here as a whole. I dunno I just personally feel like if they overload the roster with too many IP characters it kinda takes away the "wow" factor of seeing the big name characters from the movies in the game you know? But yeah, I got no problem with this.
Jennifer's Body, Serial Mom, The Grudge, American Mary - and those are only a few which I, someone who watches very few horror movies, have seen. BHVR literally work with this, and should know horror/thriller movies way better than I do. Also, although the Scream series is licensed, DBD's Ghostface is an original character, whom they decided to make a generic narcissistic guy, for some reason.

It's funny because I never saw any feminists saying there should be more male [anything] in a domain.
Anyway, on the subject, I prefer a few well designed female killers like the ones we have than poorly designed female killers. Quality over quantity.
Because hell, we all know what is it when devs make female characters just for LGBT people (hello gears of war). Let's not force them, for now, original killers design is very good. I don't know why there are complaints about numbers.
There's no need for anyone to complain about a lack of male characters in any domain, as there rarely is one. In the few instances where the vast majority of the characters are female, they're generally used as fanservice material for men, rather than being actually well-developed characters. Also, who mentioned LGBT people? Though, since you mentioned it, I would be happy with some form of LGBT rep as well.

Well no if it came off as that then yeah obviously it should have been removed and that's my fault in honestly I have barely ever communicated let alone spoke to many so yeah, I appreciate you telling me it came off as that I will endeavor to type, and speak better.
Also not using it as a excuse but I also didn't want it to come off as that either.
That's what I, and presumably the mod, interpreted it as. But hey, mistakes and miscommunication happen, I know how it feels. I'm glad it was just a misunderstanding though :)

@Predated said:
Alright, now, deduce the licensed killers, as the devs had no influence there and there have been little to no female characters to license. That removes:
Bubba, Pig, Myers, Ghostface, Freddy, Demo, Pyramid Head, Pinhead and Nemesis.
So, that's only 1 less female killer, and 7 less males. So if we look at OG killers. There are 9 males and 5 females.
There are multiple female characters they could have licensed. Of course some of the game developers don't have much of an influence, just doing their job of programming and designing, but someone has to be deciding who they'll license. BHVR could have had more licensed female Killers, but they've chosen not to.
And 9:5 is still an unnecessarily large difference, especially considering they have full control of what their original characters should be.

Then so should behavior for their violence, there overly revealing outfits, the spirits bandages. I was simply being honest and accepting and even above and beyond with a genderless character like Slender Person. I MEAN seriously I wasn't even over the top in the terms of language or directing it at anyone. But I'll be sure to CURB my freedom of speech, even if it was demeaning it wasn't in a bad sense, most women gamers I know want to look nice, nothing I said was like Oh! Give me a "Micro Bikini" nothing is wrong with wanting to look Appealing or Cool Or even Handsome Beautiful or "****" the dreaded word. I WAS within the right to say it based on their rules to which I read and tried to make sure I understood. A mod I believe washu blocked post someone made because he assumed I was being insulted I didn't even read anything that could have been insulting to me.
If Washu wants to reach out to me and answer my first time I tried to ask for clarification of why that 1 post was closed I would like it because I don't know to what rules the mods have to follow now when moderation is being done. I AM autistic and trying to simply follow the darn rules and I seem like I am not getting a proper answer.
What your comment came across as was "if we're gonna have another female killer, she needs to be hot, because I'm a guy and I want that". And I'm autistic too, bro - it's not an excuse to make misogynistic comments.
Also, yeah, Spirit's bandages are weird and overly sexualising. That is also a thing they should change.

Seeing as I was censored, I shall shorten my post I would like more female killers, mom killers and gender killers and something from rabid grannies.
You were likely "censored" because you were making inappropriate sexualising comments about women lmao

Does it really matter though? Sure it is cool to have diversity, but is it really such an issue to make it a big deal?
I don't know what gender or race you are, but it's pretty boring to have barely any representation. It may not be a big deal to you, but I find that an important part of my experience with various forms of media is being able to at least somewhat relate to the characters. The majority of my friends who play DBD feel the same way. BHVR has been better than most companies at creating ethically diverse characters, but sadly haven't done the same thing when it comes to gender.

@Luciferr_2nd said:
When you just look at the original characters BHVR have made, i believe the ratio is actually 12:8 which is alot better.
Males are typically seen to be a more suited slasher killer, and the licensed killers werent BHVRs creations.
I suppose, but there are still quite a lot of female slashers they could've added. I also wish more movies, especially horror movies, had female villains, but that's another issue in itself.

Or how about we leave identity politics out of the video game and not minimize real victims of crime and compare them to video game violence.
@NomiNomad said:
If you want more female killers, that's fine, but don't treat it as some crime. All that will do is make people angry and inevitably get this thread closed because guess what- We aren't allowed to talk politics on this part of the forum. It's like your screaming for attention.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I haven't mentioned anything about politics.

Statistically, male killers IRL outnumber the female killers in any category from 3:1 to 20:1. I wouldn't mind more diversity but I would argue that the Killers show a somewhat accurate representation of how likely each gender is to commit murders/tragedies. Not to say that women can't do it, but on average they do much less of it.
As far as I know, people IRL can't teleport or use various magic powers either. I don't play DBD for the real-world realism.

But both Charlotte, the main muscle of the twins, and a couple of the Legion characters are female. Why didn’t you count those?
@[Deleted User] said:
i consider twins to be a female character. I mean victor is just a power. He isn't even customisable.
Even if you count the Legion and Charlotte, there are 15 male and 7 female Killers, which is still a huge ratio.

For normal games, I personally use Nurse's Calling, Franklin's Demise, Pop Goes The Weasel, and Whispers.
Nurse's Calling is good for locating Survivors injured by your power. If you play a decent Legion, and the Survivors aren't super confident in their chase abilities, they will likely spend a lot of time healing. Franklin's Demise is my go-to perk against Survivor items, especially med-kits and flashlights. Pop Goes The Weasel is obviously for slowing down gens, and Whispers helps me quickly locate Survivors at the beginning of the game.
I also have a meme build I enjoy, nicknamed the "Actually Terrible Terror Radius" build.
Perks: Overwhelming Presence, Coulrophobia, Unnerving Presence, Thanatophobia
Add-ons: Iridescent Button and Etched Ruler (Optional).
Basically, just injure as many Survivors as you can, and use your power just about any time it's available. While using your power, ALL survivors, no matter where they are, suffer from 50% slower healing speed, 100% faster item consumption rate, 10% increased Skill Check trigger odds, and 60% smaller Skill Check areas. If all the Survivors are injured, they also suffer from 20% slower repair/sabotage/cleanse action speed. If you wanna be an even bigger A-hole, you can replace Overwhelming Presence or Thanatophobia with Hex: Huntress Lullaby, and watch as Survivors fail skill checks constantly.
Most likely won't win you any games, but it will probably ruin at least one person's day.
-
big fan of this highly confident Meg I played against once
-
It's honestly a tie between Miss Piggy, Myers, and the forbidden puppy.
-
It's just as TripleSteal said. Additionally, Haddonfield is just a terrible map for the majority of Killers. Also, DS has undergone some changes, now making it inactive if the Survivor does just about any non-chase action. If the Survivor you just unhooked starts to heal, unhook someone, or maybe tap a generator, their DS is no longer a threat.
-
It's really all about testing various Killers and perks, and finding what works for you. There are a lot of "meta" builds and Killers, a thousand tier lists of who's the "best" and the "worst", but none of that really matters. At the end of the day, it's not really a win unless you're having fun.
I, personally, enjoy playing as Doc, Legion, Myers, and Demo.
The Doctor's "Order" addons are super fun - there's nothing more satisfying than seeing a Survivor trying to get your attention in what they think is a safe loop, only to have their pallet disappear as they approach. He's also great with the perk Surveillance, telling you just where to use his Static Blast, as well as Iron Maiden for those who think they can avoid your power.
I find Legion fun as it kinda lets you take on the role of what is basically a Survivor with a knife - you fast vault windows and pallets, you run fast, and you stab people. Since Feral Frenzy attacks don't count as basic attacks, it also works really well with perks such as Dark Devotion and Franklin's Demise. Nurse's Calling is also a safe bet, as they will be healing quite a lot. And there's something very fun about slaughtering a group of adult men as a pink-haired teenage girl with a knife.
Good ol' Myers has a lot of cool add-ons, allowing you to play him in just about any way you want. You can go for an unstoppable beast of a man with Spirit Fury + Enduring and M&A + Infectious Fright, or you can grab an indoor map offering and scare the crap out of people with Scratched Mirror. Either way, the combination of stealth and power is always quite fun.
Finally, there's the Demogorgon. The teleportation thing is cool, but the Shred attack is even better, allowing you to work around perks like STBFL and Dark Devotion. I'm a big fan of STBFL, Mad Grit, and Rancor - hit fast, spam attack bodyblockers, and get yourself a yummy snack at the end of the game. Of course, the most important part is that the Demogorgon is so goddamn CUTE. I don't understand how people find it scary. It's just a big hairless puppy.
Well, that's all for my
novelcomment - best of luck to you in your future killing sprees! 💚TL;DR: test things, have fun, and pet eldritch horrors
-
Therapy.
-
I'd show him a k-pop boy band thirst tweet and he'd immediately break down crying
-
Demogorgon. I screech and I want to bite people
-
demogorgon.. he's just a litle creacher
-
I do use Unbreakable, to avoid being slugged, since staying on the ground for ages is really annoying. I don't feel the need to use DS, really.
-
I think it'd be cool to have a map where you can walk in the water. Like grass, it'd make sound and reveal your location to a nearby Killer, but it would also provide a good hiding spot (assuming it's murky sewer water with trash/algae/etc). Most importantly, it'd be fun to just splash around.
-
I like getting my teammates out alive, even if it means I die. However, what really makes a game good is whether I think it was fun or not. If I spent the whole game being stressed and annoyed, that's a loss, even if I double pip and survive. If I spent the game laughing and having fun, that's a win, no matter what the outcome was.
-
I really just... don't use exhaustion perks. At all. It's annoying having to keep an eye on my Exhaustion and such.
-
I generally use 2 different builds for the 2 Survivors I play as.
For Dwight, I use Bond, Prove Thyself, Leader, and Self-Care. Yes, I have him levelled up, I just love his base perks. I use these perks to find other Survivors and stay on gens as much as I can.
For Adam, I use Iron Will, Calm Spirit, Borrowed Time, and Unbreakable. While it's good for stealth, I can also swoop in and rescue my teammates.
When it comes to Killers, my perk builds vary by each one. However, I will say that I do enjoy using underrated perks, such as Surveillance, Iron Maiden, and Dark Devotion. Meta perks are good and all, but I like having the element of surprise in my games.
-
It's either Adam or Dwight for me. Depends on whether I'm planning to play seriously, or just mess around and have fun.
-
Personally, I think they should change it in one of three ways.
- The perk doesn't work when the Killer is undetectable. This would make it easier to play stealth Killers, but would render the perk almost useless.
- The perk has a cooldown (think Premonition). This could work, but the cooldown would have to be quite short for the perk to be useful.
- The perk's range should be narrowed, so it only activates when the Killer is looking directly at the Survivor. Maybe when the Survivor is in the middle 15-20% of the Killer's screen. This would let stealth Killers sneak up on Survivors, but they'd have to be careful not to stare too much.
-
They're boyfriends, you absolute buffoon.
-
jingle jingle
-
Finishing gens in front of you and bodyblocking at least have a purpose. Pointing/"come here" gestures are meant to get the Killer to follow you, which is also a valid tactic. Teabagging at pallets and flashlight clicking are just unnecessary and annoying.
Nothing compares to being called homophobic slurs in the post-game chat, though, lmao
-
I don't know, I don't walk that much in the game. I'm usually crouching or sprinting. /s
-
dwight. go white boy go
-
I
definitely ammight be biased, but I'd love to see the creature from CARRION. It'd be cool to see it in DBD's realistic style. There are also possibilities of completely new mechanics, such as sort of disguise/shapeshifting power with the Killer taking the form of a Survivor, as well as climbing walls/ceilings. If that's difficult to balance, I'd also love to have another killer with the ability to physically move Survivors, like The Deathslinger does. -
Extremely flashly clothes, especially on Nea (you know, pink hair an all that). Also when I check their Steam profiles and they're all from the same country, especially if at least one of them has TTV in their username. I'm leaving that immediately.
-
Honestly, neither of these options. The real win is when I spend most of the game laughing. Whether I pip down or up doesn't matter - my only goal is to confuse/scare Survivors as much as possible. If the game ends with a Survivor saying "dude what the hell was that", I'm satisfied.
-
I'd say Amanda, only because she's cute, and being stealthy is fun. However, Demogorgon is pretty fun to mess around with - especially when using Mad Grit and Save The Best For Last.
-
It really depends on the situation. If there are two Survivors left, and I see both of them and down one, then yes - I'm going to follow the other one and down them as well. I usually end up letting the first downed person get the hatch, but I enjoy the chase. If I have no idea where the other Survivor is, I'll just hook the one I downed. I'd rather not leave anyone on the ground for more than a minute, as it's not fun for anyone. I prefer to give the last Survivor at least a chance at getting the hatch. If they're really altruistic, and attempt to save their teammate even when all hope seems lost, I'll likely let them both go.
-
There are no challenges when you're good at Nurse, sorry. Try playing Ghost Face or something.
-
Static Blast, duh. Doesn't everyone main Doctor? /s
Seriously, though, I always use BBQ along with Iron Maiden. You wanna hide in that locker? Go ahead, I'll find you anyway.
-
I've made some perks for a Killer OC of mine, including one I really wish was in the game.
EYE FOR AN EYE: You punish those who put others in harm's way for their own gain. If a Survivor unhooks another Survivor within 14 metres of you and inside of your Terror Radius, the rescuer becomes Exposed for 10/15/20 seconds. The rescued Survivor sprints 20% faster for this duration.
It could be good against Borrowed Time, but most importantly, it'd stop Survivors from farming their teammates. I hate when someone unhooks their teammate right in front of me and just leaves them to die. It would sort of work like a reverse Make Your Choice. Making the "rescuer" Exposed is very powerful, but I feel like the speed boost balances it, allowing the rescued Survivor to make a quick getaway. I also added "inside of your Terror Radius", so Killers using stealth-based Powers or Perks can't just camp the hook and instantly down the rescuer.
-
I was going to ask why Clown wasn't an option, but then I remembered the USA was already part of the Vietnam war.
(Also, "The noncemare" genuinely has me laughing)
-
Evan/Dwight, because they've both been in the Fog for ages, and they're just about polar opposites. I think they'd have an interesting dynamic.
Michael/Jake, as the silent loners. I can imagine them sitting on a log in the forest, looking at the crows in comfortable silence.
Anna/Adiris, because they're realmmates (oh my god they were realmmates), and they're both tall badass women. Anna could go hunt for food, and they'd both cook a meal together in their little wooden cabin ❤️
Yui/Rin. Just a couple of Japanese girl bonding and having fun. Badass Biker Yui would take Dutiful Student Rin on a ride around the city.
Nea/Meg - the absolute power couple. They'd bond over their love for annoying Killers, and graffiti their initials on any wall they could find.
Caleb/Ace, gambling buddies. I could see them sharing a bottle of whiskey over a friendly game of poker (which Ace wins with his "luck").
I also think Feng/Susie and Kate/Julie could be cute dynamics, but I'm gonna hold it off until we have canon ages for the Legion.
-
No, we really don't.
I'm pretty sick of seeing the sexualisation of female characters in video games. If you find the characters attractive, cool, good for you, but making them run around half-naked is both unimmersive and misogynistic. Especially in horror games - big tall evil serial killer man running after some small terrified woman wearing barely anything just doesn't sit right with me, for obvious reasons. A lot of women play this game, and I doubt any of them would be comfortable with it.
If you plan to give the male characters the same treatment AND you somehow manage to make it lore-friendly, like a beach set or something, then alright, I'm fine with it. But if the girls are the only ones running around in skimpy clothing? No thank you.
-
When it comes to gameplay, I'd say I'm indifferent about Freddy.
Lore-wise, however? I absolutely hate that nonce.
-
It works against:
- Shock Therapy (Power)
- Dream Snares (Power)
- Infectious Fright (Perk)
- Iron Maiden (Perk)
- Spies from the Shadows (Perk)
- Deathbound (Perk)
- Anxious Gasp (Add-on)
- Iridescent Family Crest (Add-on)
- whatever else makes Survivors scream
I like to use it for maximum sneakiness. It can also help you get some flashlight saves against an Infectious Fright-using Killer.

This does sound very sneaky I love it, but I get weary with unbreakable because normally they down you and end up picking you up immediately giving no time to actually hide and recover
I mostly use Unbreakable so that if there are two Survivors left (me and one other), and no chance of finishing the rest of the generators, I can get the Killer's attention and have them hook me, so I can die and the other Survivor can get the hatch. If the Killer instead decides to leave me on the ground and finds + downs my teammate, I can get up and maybe find the hatch for myself, or maybe even rescue them if it's possible. I use it as more of an insurance than an active perk.
-
I mostly use Calm Spirit, Iron Will, Unbreakable, and Borrowed Time. Good for hiding if you're a coward (like me), but also allows you to be recklessly altruistic. You have to use a somewhat camouflaged outfit, of course - Iron Will and Calm Spirit won't do much if you have pink hair and glowing neon clothes.

Agreed. If someone's doing these things with the intent of being a jerk, that's toxic (although I generally don't define anything as "toxic", because it's a pretty strong word, and I mostly use it to refer to real-life cases of abusive behaviour). If they're teabagging or flashlight clicking for example to move the Killer's attention away from for example an injured teammate, that isn't really a bad thing, though.
