The game declined so much that it is enjoying the highest gameplay counts it ever had, as someone who has played this game since 2016, wth you mean by skill in the og dbd? The one where if someone approached an infinite you just had to give up chase? Or when a crack billy got you and insta moried you 30 seconds into the match?
Also regarding your point on content creators, all of the ones you mentioned, except tofu, would get absolutelly eaten alive by the current dbd players that are actually good. Some of them have actually faced them and lost horribly as well.
If you ask me, someone who has also played dbd since its inception, it has gone up and down on skill, why? Because killers like unknown and springtrap have such a high skill ceiling on their proyectiles you would be dishonest to propose any killer back then required more skill.
We do have killers that do not require more skill than previous ones, as it is obviously true you need more skill to play wraith than ghoul.
Also perk variety does not take away skill, I in fact think it makes you need more skill.
Before you could just tunnel without repercusion and win incredibly fast, if someone has DS or OTR you have to know how to adjust your gameplay even if you wanna tunnel, it makes you judge your descicions more.
-
You can vault back the bat, you can bait the wolf and you can dodge hellfire, how is there no counterplay? Sure you can argue he is bloated or has many abilities but he objectively has counterplay for his 3 forms.
-
Play ladder, not only will you improve massively at chase, but you will also lose all anxiety over chases. Quite literally the best solution.

honestly I’d enjoy springtrap more if the doors had a more interactive use for survivors than just cameras and maybe increase size of the axe hit-box so that it doesn’t go through a survivor because I’m telling you that has happened to me more times than it should.
Hell no, that would be a massive nerf. The axe small hitbox is good thing it lets you do some crazy trickshots. If you wanna buff him youd make the hitbox even smaller not bigger.
-
I am a massive fnaf fan, and also been playing dbd since 2016, as such I will say I LOVE springtrap, because for the biggest license ever they actually did something amazing and made his gameplay good.
Like sadako, ghostface and so on are faithfull to the source material yes but their gameplay is just bad, they are a joke and the skill ceiling is boring with no flashy plays to be done.
Bhvr did an amazing model and pair that up with a power that has consistency (the doors) and also gave him a tool for cool plays and for players to invest 100s of hours in learning and mastering.
I am genuinly so happy he is not an m1 pushover but actually a killer that you have to master, it makes playing him and learning axe throws so fun.
-
I find it so funny all the posts saying "well I dont use it so its ok" bro anyone with a brain will just change the gamma when they see locks on lockers at the start of the match, like just because some people don't use an advantage it doesnt mean it is not on the game.
Back to the point, its still useful for the teleport speed, however given that locker spawns are bad, locks exist and even if the locker is not locked you have enough time to get to a pallet, dredge is still cheeks, a little bit more than before but he has never been good against players who have object permanence.
-
As a survivor I can genuinly escape if I want to by using the hatch most of the time, and as killer really you can just equip good perks and good addons and get a 4k. I dont think mmr did much, specially as getting into the max mmr is so easy the matchmaking might as well be random.
Will you lose some matches? Yeah, the only real change compare to when we didn't had mmr is people now at least are a bit knowledgeable about the game, is not like before when people did not know how to loop and so on.

I call BS, its only available on the new characters and not everyone has bought them. Additionally, a few hundred ms of advantage on a vault does not break the game. It might mean that occassionally yes, there's a miss instead of a hit. Big whoop, you lose a few seconds on one chase. It will get fixed but exaggerating wildly about it won't make that happen any faster.
The deathslinger bug on the other hand, if true, would demand it get fixed with morefocus. That is borderline game breaking.
The perk makes you inmune to almost all proyectiles in-game not only slingers hit, its literally better than a fast vault or finnesse, the only way you can take dmg with it equiped is my having over 110 ms as survivor, quite literally it is game breaking at loops.

I've seen video evidence that the perk makes you immune to Deathslinger's harpoon every vault. He can't hit you, no matter what. It's completely broken.
Not only slingers harpoon, from some testing I have been seeing in stream, its really any proyectile and borderline it kinda looks like I frames.

They're just a lame item that you pop before the killer gets close enough and it either wastes a ton of their time or the killer is able to guess where you went so it does little. I think more visual clutter/hiding stuff was not what survivor needed.
People are so uncreative, they can be that or you can actually be a good player and pair them with vigil+ sprint burst to keep using main building loops and losing chase so no entity block or bloodlust.
You basically create a situation where the killer has to give up the chase.

Again, you keep comparing comp DBD to AVERAGE players.
"Theyre looking at their friendslist and saw their buddy is online" is a statement about AVERAGE PLAYERS.
This entire argument is supposed to be "Are comp players the BEST players in the game"? As in literally better than everyone else.
I mean so far any very good pub team/killer that has faced comp players had been destroyed. Like a lot of players with 10k+ hours have played against comp player to try and prove your point and lost. Even then the pub player could use all they wanted to, and play killers like blight and nurse, still got wrecked.
Do I have a presedent of a comp player facing 1800 teams in pubs and only being stopped by 1 comp team as well as any person saying they are the best x killer or have the most stats in a particular killer getting dunked on by comp teams when they face the., yeah I will assume until proven otherwise comp players are vastly better than whatever you find in pubs because so far no proof has been offered of it being the opposite.
Your argument boils down to people saying olympic swimmers are not thr best swimmers because somehow out there there is one random person who is faster, we don't know they exist, no proof of how fast they swim but you just have to trust they are the best.

Not every comp player is in the best of the best bracket.
Some of them are just… decent. Except you don't notice those that much as the top dogs.
The worst comp team may have just joined comp last week and installed the game 2 months ago.
Absolutelly true and yet if they just do clock callouts they are already better than 99% of pub teams.

This game doesn't have an official leaderboard, so there is zero evidence that that comp players are the best players.
Comp players are comp players because they joined a comp team.
You can put the worse comp team against any pub player and the pub players will be eaten alive.
Saying comp players are not better than pub players is insane, when its obvious who actually can win.
Example, the highest win streak in the game which was against pub players with NO restrictions nor rules, would not be beaten by almost 1800 teams of pub players, and the ones to end it were a comp team. If that doesnt tell you that even without restrictions comp players are vastly better than pub players idk in what world you live in.

Comp DBD should never be an argument for anything, because they have so many custom rules, that it isn't anything like public DBD games.
I really don't care how well certain killers do, when a gigantic list of custom rules is added to the game.
While they have many rules they are also the players that know how to best play the game. I will 100% trust more the opinion of a comp player on how good doctor is rather than someone who says he is either a hidden gem of a killer and no one really knows it or he is somehow op and impossible to loop.

Defining the term to mean "weak killer" wouldn't help, because people would still disagree with most on which killers should be considered "weak killers".
I mean for that we should actually take into account good players opinions. Timmy who believes dredge is not weak because he cannot loop on nightfall is not a good source compared to an actually good player/a comp player who actually can play effectively against strong killers and also have to know how to play weak killers to their max potential when they are chosen for sets.

I'm not new in the least, I just disagree with the commonly cited use of the term. I don't think it's helpful and I think we'd be on much firmer ground discussing the game if this term weren't used this way.
The fact of the matter is, people consistently use "M1 killer" as a stand-in for "weak killer", often either ignoring killers that are equally M1 focused but very good or citing killers that have a damaging M2 attack.
My point is this: If the term is going to be "M1 killer", it should be used to define something about the killer's power. If the meaning is going to be "weak killer", the term used should reflect that more accurately.Or, TL;DR, if what you mean is "weak killer" just say that. Why bother with the misleading term?
This is absurd, its like asking people to stop saying spiders are bugs because technically they arent. Yes techniclaly they are not but so many people already use the term and everyone knows what they mean when they use it that changing it is neither practical nor necesary. All the people here seem to have a consensus on m1 refering to bad killers at looping, you see how most of us could agree on the same killer being in the category, there is no change of term needed.
-
Saying pig is an m2 killer because she has that joke of an attack that is her dash is like saying springtrap is an m1 if you never use his ace. Personally I think of m1 killers as killers who have to respect traditional looping, meaning a safe pallet will always be safe and if a survivor is using checkspots/measuring well their distance the killer has no agency at the loop. This way killers that can injury with m1 but their power makes them have agency at loops like spirit and singularity are not m1s, but killers like pig or legion which rely on thr survivor being bad or having no resources to get a down are m1 killers.

I don't mean why would anyone use yellow in general. I mean if a player felt playing with purple alone was fine before why would they suddenly think it's not fine if yellow gets a buff. What about their previous strat has changed?
I know there's only a certain number of charges per color before you need to reload but that's not changing. If they played around that before without using yellow then why would they feel like they need to include yellow now unless something changes to make just relying on purple not as effective as they previously felt it was?
Remember, they didn't say they wanted to buff or nerf clown - just that they wanted to encourage more people to use a mix of yellow and purple rather than just purple. Just buffing yellow doesn't do that.
They objectively made clown worse, his old addons offer more value than before and for people who only use purple bottles the slow and addons have been made worse, idk what you are on but he is worse in all regard even and specially if you want to just use yellow bottles. Not only because his basekit got changed in a way that alienates clown players but also in a way that his addons got downgraded.
This is like saying I want to make springtrap players use the teleport more so we add 5 seconds to his undetectable but nerf everything about his axe and also nerf the addons related to the doors. I am genuinly baffled people do not see this as a net nerf, even the best of clown mains have explained these changes in detail and how they butcher the killer.

How convenient that you ignored the part where I said we need to fix the balancing of the 4v1 and 3v1.
How could you possibly buff the 3v1 without indirectly or directly buffing 4v1. Only thing that comes to mind is add a multiplier for each dead survivor to say repairing and at that point the killer might even get punished for getting kills lmao.

Zoom out. Why do people hate going down early?
Usually because it is easy to snowball. Once someone is dead at more than 2 gens remaining, the Killer wins.
We COULD address the imbalance of power in both the 4v1 and 3v1.
orrrrrrr, we could keep playing wack-a-mole and start banning more innocent players.
So someone going down when all the map resources are avaliable and survivors are at their strongest is somehow something the devs need to fix?. Lets say the devs adress the imbalances of the 3v1 survivors can now win on a 3v1 scenario, this means a 4v1 matchup would be even more skewed in the survivors favor (as if we balance for a 3 v 1 to win its obvious a 4 v1 would be stronger) so survivors would have the upper hand until the killer achieves a 2 v 1 , this would not only horribly punish the fools that play for 4 hooks as they would be versing survivors at their strongest through all the match, it would subject all players to a similar expireence. Better yet we would still have dcs because even if you spawn in eyre of crows with a siringe, full on meta build but the killer gets an early down because of a good use of his power, the survivor will still dc.
-
@Pulsar said:
Not super surprising. People are going to turn to anything else that lets them quit. Most probably aren't DC'ing, they'll just be soft quitting. No way to police that.
Perhaps we should start fixing pain points.
Agreed, how can we avoid the biggest pain point, going down first? Or the killer being anything bar demo (without meta perks nor addons) or ghostface ( no meta perks as that one is also obnoxious and will get a dc).
-
I think as the poster above said reshade is gonna be the only probable solution. You could play freddy and dredge too as they highlight survivors, however its not ideal if you dont enjoy their gameplay.

It is truly unfortunate that the developers seem to be moving away from macro-oriented killers and towards micro, case in point: the outrageous number of dash killers that we have in the game.
But honestly, what makes the situation even worse is the fact that the few macro killers we have in the game are taken away from their core playerbase and turned towards micro.
Skull Merchant is a prime example with her garbage, genuinely awful design previews, but she is not the only one:
We have, of course, the very first instance when something like this happened: Freddy.
Freddy's rework in 2019 was the very first example of taking a killer who was meant for macro gameplay, and turning them towards micro.
The result? An extremely oppressive killer who was nerfed after little more than a year, then left to rot until early-2025. And the players who enjoyed Old Freddy were never given anything. At best an add-on that does one of the many things his base-kit (not another add-on, base-kit) could do in the past.
And that isn't acceptable. If new releases will be more micro-oriented going forward, fine. It is not a good decision, but okay. However, the killers who do excel at macro-gameplay should never, under any circusntamces, lose their identity.
Going into micro oriented killers is imo not a bad decision, as they are widely loved compared to macro oriented killers. Dont get me wrong erasing the already macro killers is bad yes, but why would you as a bussiness make a product that you know will sell badly and that your customers have already told you very vocally they dislike?
Thats like having an ice cream shop and seeing that almost all your customers love fruit flavors, however 4 people really like exotic flavors, while you can still sell those people what they like, investing on creating exotic flavors rather than fruit ones is bad for bussiness.

Nah, just be good at the game and springtrap would still be fine.
I need as a bad player a series of instructions on how to be good against a survivor prerunning half the map, like a good player like you can surely tell me.
-
@Virtualguy said:
He's okay but there needs to be something to let survivors know he's coming through doors. While yes the screen does flicker due to spawn logic 9/10 times you can't see the screen. Something like the aura of the door flickering would be good.
Edit: Also something should be done about how impossible it is to get a save against him when he camps but I assume that will be dealt with when phase 2 comes around.
That would make an already mid tp useless, you could prerun half the map as soon as you saw that. Also global ambient noises muffle when he is using the doors, if you see any decent playoff of actually good players you will see them using this to avoid surprise attacks.

This is true, the locker does vibrate when Dredge teleports to it. Some Dredges use the addon Levalier's Microphone to eliminate this by making all the lockers do it, so you can't tell where they are. Fun addon!
Still unsure why OP is so adamant that they have to be correct, people can have different experiences with the game you know…No maybe you or I got confused I am not refering to when dredge arrives at the locker. I am refering to when he is teleporting, like while dredge is in his demo like black fog screen while traveling to a locker you as a survivor can see if he is approaching to a specific locker. The handles and only the handles will vibrate, this way you can get up to 10 seconds of prerunning, that without even taking into account if you lock the locker.
-
@Mr_K said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3961097#Comment_3961097
If he stays there yes. But teleporting doesn't make an external sound. At least to my knowledge. When exiting of course there's a sound but no warning that it is there.
It does actually, when dredge is teleporting to a locker the handles of the locker vibrate. So you can literally prerun as soon as he choses that locker to tp to.

I do not like speed buffs on killers as a means to “buff” them. It feels cheap to go against, and it’s the reason why I despise Wraith so much. I would prefer for both Wraith & Pig’s stealth to have been buffed, and speed increase omitted. I like Pig terror radius going away quicker. Her knife being unsheathed should get a buff like Demo’s hiss before he attacks; when you hear it and don’t see it- you know you’re definitely getting hit. As for Wraith- remove his heavy foot steps when cloaked, decrease the amount of distance before you see him cloaked, remove his snarl when cloaked, and give him that bell add-on where you can’t tell where he is at on the map, as default. Now that would make Wraith scary as hell.
As for Clown, I feel like he’s in a good spot now. Maybe keep him as is and remove the option for survivors to get use out of his yellow piss bottles? I don’t play Clown, but sometimes I get the impression certain clown players are scared to use them more often out of fear the survivor will get more value than the clown himself.
Pig terror radius could be a nerf against attentive players tho, and buffing stealth really does nothing against good players while speed does make the difference.
-
So there is no reason to run unbound except for adept unknown and prob a singularity/xeno build? Thats sad, the perk went back to useless again.
-
@ShanoaLegendaryPlz said:
Use the doors for free stealth hits/mobility, he gets a very long undetectable status by using them and can easily close distance on survivors for a free hit even with the loud footsteps. If you have trouble aiming the axe mid chase, save ur axe throws for when they vault or drop pallets. If ur desperate for adept, dont hook the 2nd last survivor until both are down. If the gates are powered and theres only 2 left, use the new door regression perk to your advantage and try to keep them off the doors, i chased one down from a nearly finnished door and the other just opened it so watch them closely.
People already adapted to the doors cues and prerun accordingly, no player that has more than 50 hours will give you free hits anymore.

This post gives big LTG vibes, games where the avoid/block mechanic is present normaly it is used against people who just are better than you or tilted you in some regard. The other type of them are genuinly problematic players/griefers but dbd has no voice chat and you can hide post game chat so those people are easily ignored.

Not really, if they need to implement it theyll need to implement filters for clourophobia, hemetophobia, mycophobia, entomophobia and the like, this would be like asking for a doom game where gore is censored. Its fine for other games sure, but a horror game having phobia filters would just be hilarious.

What they need to do is remove the DC penalty or severely lower the penalty, so people don't get trapped in games that are already over before they began. Instead of dying, at least that team would be left with a bot.
DBD is a casual game. If they added a "ranked competitive" mode, that would be a different story, and DC penalties should be harsher there, but we don't have that mode.
Honestly if they added a comp queue to this game (they never would most likely because they'd get way more perk and killer balance complaints) that would solve a lot of the problems people have with the "sweat" we deal with in a lot matches where some people play for money and others play to chill and have fun.
Why cant people that just like to win just hop on on the casual mode and wreck them? Cuz to me that would not stop nothing, just make queues horrible

What is the counter play to the fast one? The one with the brand I think it is? Is it just vaulting? I understand if you grab the flag they go away, but I can never seem to make it anywhere without that one catching me.
I'm not saying they are OP, it just seems inconsistent to me that they are the only thing in the game immune to pallet stuns (outside of suped up Singularity), and I'm trying to figure out the counterplay.
All guards hace the same counterplay, you mess with the Ai until the hunt ends or you get the banner. If you throw a pallet while hunted near them while it does not stun them it will make them either phase through it which takes a lot of time that you can take advantage off or go around it which basically guarantees you escaped them.
However you can also use windows, when you are hunted and go near a window you will see some ghostly textures on it, go towards the window and bait it, the ghost will get baited and you can repeat this how many times you like.
You lust learn how to take away knights power, hope it helped.

How is Spirit better than Springtrap? What, specifically, does she do better? He can get hits at just as many loops as she can. He has better mobility. He has built in Undetectable for 20 seconds. She can disappear for 5. So… tell me. What, exactly, does Spirit do better than Springtrap?
Spirit is better at chatching up after a pallet break. She has a wayy better looping power compared to springtrap (as evident as how well spirit does compared to any ranged killer in comp). Spirit also has better addons. Her mobility is good and doesnt alert the whole map she is using it. She has a similar cooldown to the axe, and her phase is much better than the axe. Springtraps undetectable is useless as he is as loud as a carnival. Like this comparison is like saying demo is better than dracula.

Your average Spirit isn't running MDR because they can't track survivors without scratch marks. Unless they're running MDR + Cherry Blossom, which just… makes your power worse than Flute + Cap.
Even that worse spower is still stronger than ST, which you seem to not be really adressing.

Shows what you know. Spirit's meta is Flute and Cap.
Doesnt mean pub players dont run MDR all the time, I agree good spirits use that combo, still the average spirit you will face has 4 slowdowns and MDR. And yet I will repeat, spirit is still stronger than ST by far.

You're trying so hard to defend ST. Spirit has a warning sound… just like every other killer with a teleport (except ST). She also can only go about 35m with her power.
Talking as if every pub spirit isnt running MDR, she can cover wayy more than that. Also nice warning sound when you have like half a second to react to the post pahse lunge. And even then spirit is still leages above ST.
-
Well, spirit can appear right on top if you without any counter really, so this change would make her fun to play against. At least thats the same logic you have used in other discussions to say springtrap is way too strong, which is funny cuz he aint even half as strong as spirit.
-
I find it hilarious that even scott manages to identify how easy it is to prerun springtrap with all the cues he gives but somehow people still think his tp is hard to detect lmao.

I keep seeing this talking point about the silent tp, but I often can hear the door when it's close by so is it really all that silent?
You see, people want the tp to be like demos, that is you can precicelly pinpoint where he tp from anywhere on the map. So even if ST has audio and visual cues he is teleporting, its not enough, people need a big loud map wide alert that tells them 10 seconds in advance ST will teleport to that door.
