  • Count me among the Killers who will toss a match to take out a bad egg in a very public way.

  • @D3spair said:

Totems are considered High Risk High Reward but most totems I get are gone in 30 seconds because survivors are spawning on them, They're in the open, besides a Gen and Survivors have perks to find them.

This is not cool. Why does BHVR keeps on buffing Survivors to find totems?

As others said, this is part of 'high risk, high reward'. Sometimes, a Survivor will spawn right next to one, and that's just part of the risk. I myself will check my immediate area upon spawning to see if there is one close, especially if it's an area with high likelihood of having a totem(killer shack, etc). OR, if I spawn in an area where there is not a generator, and the Killer makes a beeline for my area at the very start of the match, it usually means they're checking their hex totem....and they just gave its location away to me. Certain hexes(especially Huntress Lullaby, Devour Hope)will cause me to almost immediately drop what I'm doing when I see them.

But on the whole, Survivors tend to pick the low-hanging fruit. They don't go out of their way to look for totems. If they did, we wouldn't have the controversy that we do over NOED.

  • @TheGhostofZgor said:

In my experience, survivors are, on average, more toxic or trolling than killers. Of course there are lots of bad/dickish killers and some great, fun survivor players but, wow, do some of them have a bug up the rear.

I realize this helps no one and only adds to pointless discourse but after a bad round, I had to rant.

As someone who also plays both Killer and Survivor, I would pretty much agree.

  • @gendoss said:

I don't play killer super often but when I do a lot of times I get those games where it's just pure destruction and they can't get a single gen done. It doesn't have much to do with my killer skill but more so the survivor's skill.

Do most killers really not feel bad when the survivors can barely do anything against you because in those situations I feel like I have to give someone hatch and it really pains me to keep hooking over and over. It feels like I'm ruining people's games because I hate it when I can be in those games as a survivor too.

So how do you handle that?

I wouldn't say that I feel 'bad' about it, but especially since I don't play Killer that often, I tend to play at ranks 12 or so all the way up to 20. Especially in those first 4 ranks, I do try not to just completely steamroll the Survivors if they are truly new and struggling(you can kinda tell if they are new, or if they just haven't played in awhile, or if they just de-ranked to abuse Killers). If they really are struggling, I'll dial things back just a bit.

Now when it comes to disconnects...if they have a disco right at the start of the game, or if my first hook discos, then I'll usually give them at least one gen, maybe two, as compensation for that...just an attempt to level the playing field a bit. If there are two such discos in early game, I'll try to get the remaining two to farm with me. That usually goes over well.

  • Tie between Alien and Child's Play.

On one hand, I'd love to see Chucky in the game. They proved that a small Killer can work with The Twins.

On the other hand....can you imagine the Nostromo as a map?? :) Maybe escape pods as the exits?

There is no new ban system yet

As to what everyone is so scared of, people are petrified by the name (since unless I missed something, BHVR hasn't said anything else except the name of it). People are under the assumption based on the name that if you get reported X amount of times, you are automatically banned from the game.

While I'm all for getting rid of some of the actual Turdburglars in this game, they'd better be sure something like this works fairly. If it's just based on the number of 'reports', then that seems like an invitation to abuse reports just because someone didn't like an outcome. If there are certain thresholds that trigger an investigation, then I can see it.

The fact you are defending keys means you are a one trick pony who only plays survivor, anyone who even plays killer for 10% of their playtime and even most 100% survivor mains know this item is bs and needs a major rework, only people who defend it are people who like using it. Hmm...

I play Killer 20%-25% of the time, and I don't have a real problem with keys. They suck sometimes, but that's the way it goes.

I don't use them much anyway, unless for a challenge/achievement. It can be fun to find one in a chest, though. Managed to find one the other night against Wraith at the Saloon, he had the other Survivor hooked, had hit me once, I couldn't save her, but while running to try and get those last chase points, what do you suppose I tripped over? =)

Not sure if it is really a fail, if multiple people escape with a Key, the Survivors did the majority of the Objective.

And no, I dont get Keys very often. The only time where I had an increased number of Key Escapes in my games was when they bugged the Spawnrate. And even old Moris would not have changed anything here, because I would not have equipped it, since the Survivors did not bring a Key but found it.

Right...if there are 4 Survivors, the hatch actually doesn't appear until 5 gens are done anyway, does it? Or 1 gen left at most...

Recently, I've seen a lot of killers knock the second to last player to the dying state and leave them to hunt for the last player before hatch opens. While there are a couple of perks that allow you to heal yourself from the dying state, generally, the players are stuck. It might be a good idea to incentivise killers to hook the player instead of leaving them there to keep the hatch closed. Perhaps giving the killer a point bonus when one player remains, or allowing the killer to see/hear the hatch when nearby. Giving the killer a reason to hook the player and open the hatch. I feel like this would better balance the late game.

Late game is fine. The hatch is a possibility, not an entitlement. It used to be that the hatch couldn't be closed at all.

Has anyone else found red ranks to be just toxic and filled with try hards. I am just trying to play for fun and relax, and all I see are moris. The best add ons the same perks all the time. I think it is time Dead By Daylight found a new meta. You shouldn't have to use the same perks over and over just to compete, let alone have fun. I've been in red ranks but it has gotten even worse as time goes on. I can finally see why people purposefully derank. But to derank is a temporary fix to a bigger issue that the developers need to fix.

Yes---so much so that I avoid them entirely. If it weren't for the season reset coming up, I'd be close to having to find something else to do for awhile.

I know the DBD fanbase is pretty big esp on the forums. I would say during good games i can spend hours playing and most time only 20-30 mins depending on how bad of games i get in solo queue. How many hours do you guys spend on dbd, survivor/killer, or even both?

Depends. Several hours in the evening, if I have nothing else more important going on. Then sometimes, I don't play for a week or three. I play Survivor predominantly, Killer about 25% of the time.

  • @TwitchyMike said:

At first I hated it. But I like that it's different and unique. Can't wait to see what other cool maps BHVR makes!

It definitely is different and unique, and it looks very good too. I somewhat feel bad for disliking it so intensely, because I know they really worked hard on it. But I just don't think it works well in practice, for either side.

  • 2k? I'll take it.

3k? Good game, and if the last Survivor concedes and wasn't a p---k, they get the hatch most of the time.

    4k? Spectacular.

Pip or two? That's ok too.

Survivor: If I can escape either way, that's a win. If I can save a late hook so that they escape, especially if the Killer was overly hard on them, that's a win too, regardless of whether I make it out. If I did well enough to pip, I'm happy.

  • @MigrantTheGreat said:

Sadly gen speeds/time isn't the problem. The problem comes from the fact that survivors don't have enough objectives prior to gens.

No, they do. They just don't bother with them most of the time, hence the never ending NOED controversy.

  • Nope! I'll do that too. If I bring in a toolbox(not usually, unless I'm doing a challenge that has me starting gens)I'll usually use it on that first gen, if the Killer is occupied and there's a good chance I'll be able to finish it. If I find one in a chest, I'll usually hang onto it, in case we need a speed boost on that last gen or two, or if I want to get one last one lit before we all get whacked.

  • @kermit_snacc_choke said:

Rant imminent. I genuinely find it baffling that Brand New Parts still exist in the game. Like 4 of them on one gen and you can delete a gen within the first 10-15 seconds within the game starting. Hello?!!!! Combined with the fact that 2 survs working on a hen simulataneously reduces the total singular gen time to like 44 seconds (basically half of its original), makes it unfathomable.

I just had 3 games In a row in which I was gen rushed to oblivion with bnp's and my god its the most frustrating thing. One chase would cost me like 2 gens. I can't even play killers I like without having to take the 'gens on lockdown' build. God I hate rank 1. Meanwhile I play survivor and I get bodyblocked and constant teammate dc's. I just want to play trickster or ghost face :.)

Yeah, but were you here before Brand New Parts got nerfed?

  • @SasukeKun said:

I've had so many games recently where groups will just sit on a side of the map for how ever long they like if i run Corrupt or any slow down perks or a killer they don't like.

It;s really annoying you can hold off doing gens for such a large amount of time before getting punished for it, all you have to do is go in and out of a locker or something and if your team wanted, you can just take the game hostage.

Games like that i just leave and then they all laugh at you and make fun of you because thats how groups like that play and thats what they want, Why ruin the event and the games

The other side of that coin is that using Corrupt gives Survivors up to two minutes to check out the map, open chests and get items, and most importantly hunt down your hex totems. It's not always a bright idea to insist on trying to start one of the three gens that will be open, and that the Killer WILL be keeping tabs on.

Now, all of this assumes that the Survivors have functioning frontal lobes, and that is admittedly a minority of us.

  • @Lx_malice said:

Meanwhile I'm left to die on first hook because nobody comes to rescue me.

Yup, that's the other side of the solo queue coin...

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

That is honestly why I started the game with a more campy approach, survivors are SUPER thirsty for unhooks and I am not being punished for staying as no one is doing gens. I purposely started playing worse specifically because I was ranking up too fast for my own good.

Yeah, I mean when I'm playing Killer, I do it too. Why work any harder than you have to? 'Suffer the little children to come unto me, He said'.

  • We can't. Survivors can either spend some time learning the game and improving their play, or not.

  • @tippy2k2 said:

You know what happens the majority of time I run Devour Hope?

    It's broken before I get a single hook :D

Like other Hex Totems, it is High Risk High Reward. You could get a Hex that allows you to take out survivors incredibly quickly if they either ignored or couldn't find my Devour Hope Hex or you could play the entire game with three perks because a survivor spawned with the lit hex inside of them they were so close to it.

Personally even when it does come into play, it's very rare that I get to actually use it to Mori people. If it somehow survived me getting three hooks, the second people realize it's in play since it gives everyone a big EXPOSED warning, people drop everything and go find the Hex. Unless I'm just stupid lucky and the Hex is in a super good hiding spot, it's usually broken before I get to start murdering those meddling kids and their mangy dog...

That's also my experience, exactly. When I run it as a Killer, it's rare for me to get more than 1 or 2 one-shots, and a Mori is only occasional. But most of the time, it gets broken early.

As a Survivor, as soon as I see 'Exposed' pop up on my screen, and I know it's not Mikey popping into EW3, and I know it's not Ghost Face drawing a bead on me, etc, I will drop whatever I happen to be doing to hunt down totems---because usually, no one else did..

  • Agreed. Same problem, same Killer.

  • I just use a PS4 controller. Basically the same setup as the PS4 version of the game. Works pretty well.

Last 5 games (and maybe more) I've played with console players, they either die (on purpose) on a first hook or just leave the game instantly when they are knocked down for the first time without even getting hooked, I'm tired of it, I just wanna enjoy the game and usually, I play with one other person and sometimes two, they kinda always come in pair to ruin the game, like why is it always console players? Why can't I opt out of playing with them? Like with pc players I don't know if it happened once in the past 100hours of play, and with console, it's almost every game, WHY???? Can someone explain me, I'm frustrated because I wanna enjoy my game and eventually rank up to #1 but I can't when this is so common sense I got above rank 8.

This definitely is not restricted to console players. They all do it.

  • I've always thought that Piggy can be a pretty nasty Killer, though that's true of most of them when in the right hands. I know she's one I prefer not to see. :) Stealth is her strong suit along with her Ambush attack. Choosing perks that accentuate that stealth and increase her map control can really make her scary.

  • @Free_Hugs said:

I don't understand how survivors can play like this. They do the first 3rd of a gen and then they just keep working on that gen until it's done. Can you believe that?!

They just find that one gen they want to work on at the start of the game and keep on it till it's done. If I find them and try to push them onto another gen, almost every time they'll go back and start tunneling the same gen they started on. Is that even fun for them? Just working on the same gen the entire game?

Personally I think they're just bad survivors that can't win a game unless they tunnel the gens out. I bet they couldn't even get to red ranks if they weren't tunneling gens. I bet if they tried to play *one game* where they do a 1/3rd of a gen and then go looking for a different gen to do somewhere else like good survivors they'd go right back to rank 15.

And don't even get me started on camping.

It's been my experience that the Sweat Squads who do the gen rush thing really play the game on a tight script. If you can somehow force them off the script, whether that's via staying on the gens like white on rice, knowing which gens to concede and which three to make your 'last stand', or clever perk builds, etc, then they tend to get lost, at least for a while, and you might even have a shot at foiling them.

  • I'm not a Killer main, but yeah, I know what you mean. It might be that we're so used to the 'META' builds(I actually call it 'POLR', for 'Path Of Least Resistance'), that anything else tends to throw us for a loop.

  • It's not bannable, but in most situations, especially when it's being done from the start of the match, it's considered a really priggish way to play. It isn't going to make a Killer any friends, anyway, for whatever that might be worth to them.

  • @Starly said:

Hello, I play this game since last August and have slightly more than 900 hours in dbd. I used Hex: No One Escapes Death only 1 time when I was still learning killer and it was cleansed 20 seconds of its life. I never used it since then at first because I thought it was too much risk for my liking, then I found it too unfun to play against. I also play as both roles.

So you might ask - Why would you ever defend such unfun perk?

My answer to that is - People misunderstand it's purpose.

NOED in my opinion shouldn't be seen as a noob perk that rewards bad players, but as something completely different.

NOED is a middle finger perk from the to survivors who think that they won. That's all it is.

And I want you to remember how satisfying it is for to escape a killer with NOED.

This message is mostly to people who take this game too seriously, I understand wanting to win, but don't forget that this is a casual game.

And don't think that I didn't rage at killers that used NOED, I just grew up I think.

Good Luck and Have Fun while playing this game.

The whole problem with NOED is the Survivor mindset(particularly with the Sweat Squads)in which the match is viewed as '5 GENS IN 1 MIN RUSH RUSH GOGOGOGO AAAANNNND WE WIN!!!!11!!!!" They feel that when they get 5 gens done, they have won the match and are now entitled to escape(all 4 of them)and you, the loser Killer, should acquiesce; in fact, you should open the gate and escort them out as your betters.

Easiest Killer perk to never ever see in the game. 5 totems, 1 minute and change, total. If you see it, you deserve it. No sympathy.

  • Wow, I could sit here all night, so I'll just pick a few:

"Rushing the hook makes things easy for the Killer"

"There is a Killer perk called 'Discordance'. Look it up, and then go work your own gen until we know it's not in use"

"Ruin is not(anymore)a reason to drop everything and hunt down totems"

'Don't struggle on your first hook. One of us will be there within 60'

"For Christ's sake, quit clicking your flashlight"

  • Historically, this whole thing ends up being a fruitless argument. So I'll just drop this here and then leave the thread.

In about 3.5 years of DBD, playing about 70% Survivor and 30% Killer, having been to red ranks on both sides(once on each side was enough for me. If I get to the point now where I'm about to pip to rank 4, I go play something else till the reset), I can make the following observations:

1)The vast majority of the 'dregs' of this game exist on both sides, and particularly from ranks 1-4.

2)At any rank, most of those 'dregs' seem to be PC players. At least, that is what I have observed post-crossplay, and from playing on PC as well over the past year or so.

3)When it comes to post-match salt and 'You need to play the way I say or uninstall' BS, Survivors win the Gold Medal. I have yet, in all of those 3.5 years of play, to be taunted or lambasted post-match by a Killer. Ever. I have, however, had them tell me 'GG' with some regularity. Survivors, on the other hand, it's about 50-60% of the time, and I've been called every racist, sexist, homophobic and xenophobic slur in the dictionary.

    My work here is done.

Completely forgot those hexes existed except noed. Thrill of the hunt sounds cool, I think I'll try that one next time. Appreciate the advice!

Lullaby on doctor is op, right? Sounds op

I wouldn't say that Lullaby on a Doc would be OP. Then again, I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't think there's very much in this game that is actually OP.

  • I like to think I strike a happy medium with Killers. I don't really take it easy on them, I play to my objectives in all matches, but I also don't go out of my way to be a tool to the Killer.

Uh oh I literally have tinkerer on every killer. Never use hexes though. Would you recommend any that aren't Ruin and Devour Hope? Thank you for writing btw!

Huntress Lullaby can really ruin a team's day if they're not quick to seek it out and get rid of it, and especially if they're no good at skill checks. NOED can also be a good panic button for a match that really goes south(gen rush, etc), but it is also very controversial and you can expect salt after the match for using it. Thrill Of The Hunt can also be useful, and is best used in conjunction with other hexes; it takes Survivors longer to cleanse totems, and you get a notification whenever they start one.

Really, none of the hexes are completely useless, in my opinion. Just depends how useful they end up being to you. And keep in mind that they are high risk, high reward.

I dont understand survivors who bodyblock right off the hook when they have BT. Like I'm not trying to tunnel you but if you are actively stopping me from going after another survivor instead of you, I will take this as an open invitation to put your butt right back on that hook. I just find it funny that there are players who do that and then claim I'm tunneling. Hun you are actively giving me the go ahead to down you after BT runs out.

Yeah. I mean, I don't see body-blocking as an issue unless it's being done to physically prevent a hook. But if you intentionally put yourself between the Killer and another Survivor, BT or no, you don't get to call it tunneling.

Oh boy! Here come the personal attacks and insinuations about my skill!

Seeing as your post is mostly just insults about my supposed skill, I'll just put it like this 'How about Survivors git gud instead of demanding Killer's tactics be removed to give them easier games?'

Oh right; because if Survivors don't like something; Killers should change how they play. And mechanics should be put in place to remove Killer player agency.

But if Killers don't like something; they need to 'git gud'.

Toi put it another way; If camping was not rewarded by most the playerbase; Killers would not camp. Stop walking towards the camping Killer, and they will lose.

Or you can keep blaming the Killer and demanding BHVR punish them for your bad plays. 🤪

    This.

The best way to punish a hook camper is to go start gens, and it has pretty much always been that way.

  • What Anniehere said, with the exception that some Survivors are just so hyperfocused on BP and Emblems that they will drop a 90% finished gen to run from one edge of the map to the other to save someone who is on their first hook and has a full 60 seconds before there's any danger(if they don't struggle). I see this happen all the time.

  • Let's see if I can explain a bit(Full Disclosure: I am a Survivor main, and occasional Killer):

Not everything is tunneling. There are a number of reasons that a Killer might do what is referred to by Survivor as tunneling. On my own part, most of that 'tunneling' is due to overly aggressive and unsafe saves by Survivors. If you are going to unhook someone right under my nose(i.e. while the hook is still in my terror radius, and I don't need a noise notification to see that the save has happened), then I am going to punish you and your team for that unsafe save by knocking that Survivor over and hanging them right back up. Don't like that? Use Borrowed Time. If you're not going to use Borrowed, then either don't perform an unsafe save....or, accept the penalty.

Another instance where Killers will tunnel for reasons is abusive play by Survivors. If you're going to exploit objects and geography, tryhard, flashlight spam, body-block a hook, or other blatantly exploitive ways to abuse the Killer and the game, I am going to run you down, knock you over, and hang you up. And in really egregious cases, I will camp you on top of it, and just shake my head at others when they come in to save. And sometimes, just sometimes, once the offending Survivor is sacked, I'll go open a gate and let the rest out, just to put a period at the end of the sentence.

That said, some Killers do tunnel in a manner that either speaks to their inexperience(they don't yet realize that tunneling a Survivor for a whole minute plus is actually a gift to the Survivors), or, yes, they're deliberately being a tool, which is unfortunately going to happen from time to time.

It's definitely a weird map for gameplay in dbd. It 100% doesn't fit and it does make fast mobility killers fairly useless. I've only played on it once since the update and it was as Doctor. We all know what that means: Doc + Indoor Map = Pain for Survivors, and it was so easy it was ugly.

I played it as Mikey this morning, and even infinite EW3 didn't save me. One of my worst Killer matches in recent memory.

Killers hate Dead Hard for largely the same reason that Survivors hate NOED.

  • I play Killer for a few reasons. One, just a change of pace now and then. Two, to cycle through dailies when the mood strikes. Three, there are a few of them(Trapper, Mikey, Pyramid Head)that I actually really enjoy playing. Or, Four, like right now, I am caught up with Survivor challenges in the Archives, so am going back to all the Killer stuff I've fallen behind on since I play Survivor probably 85% of the time. :)

I guess it never really dawned on me until now that Killers get BPs faster...

To be fair, I can see where this map might work really well for ranged killers...like Huntress, like Trickster. I played it as Pyramid Head once or twice and it wasn't terrible. But if I never saw this map again, it would be too soon.

  • Agreed. This map went over like a fart in church.

  • @Marc_go_solo said:

As a 50/50 player, up until now I rarely came across anything I would consider close to actual tunnelling and camping.

Today alone I had 3 games in a row with killers face-camping. One just kept punching at the guy! He had Kindred, so I could see the lug bashing away.

In all 3 games I was fortunate to escape, and one of them we managed to rescue the hooked guy. However, I have noted an increase, and the only things I can think of with those 3 killers is that all matches had lots of cake, and some of those survivors had crowns.

So my assumption from this, some other experience during this time and from what people have said is that some people are choosing to play killer to deliberately prevent other players from getting those crowns and BP.

So although nothing can be done about the cake, I would suggest that sirvivors get the crown simply by interracting with it. It's too convenient for the sudden boost in face-camps when this event started, wheb I've barely come across true face-camping for the longest time.

It's a shame, since it gives killer mains a really unfair reputation because of some guys acting like dicks.

The only opposing opinion I would offer here is that there are in fact times where some Killers(myself included...full disclosure) will face camp someone for a reason. That reason is usually to punish a Survivor who was exploiting, or otherwise being a tool. I'm not sayin anything, I'm just sayin.

  • I don't know that I would agree that Mikey even needs a rework. He's one of my favorite Killers as-is, and I regularly do really well with him, as recently as today. Nothing in this game is quite as fun as a Peek-A-Boo in Lery's, Hawkins, or the meat plant.
