I think people put to much emphasis on outcome.
Killer = # kills
Survivor = survive
But the rank system is predominately based on match performance not outcome. No chases, no bones, hardly any gens, no real altruism but survive is not a pip or safety pip.
Just as 4k with the old mori tunnel everyone off hook in 5 mins was not a pip for killer.
If you could rank just on surviving you could scum out as a crappy player and still rank up or safety, which you can already basically do, its why survivor is often said to be easy to rank up compared to killer.
Take the emphasis off the single point of outcome and the emblem system makes a lot more sense. Even if some of it is out of your control and as such can be hard to fulfill every aspect in a particular game. But that's just random variation game to game and is to be expected.
Sadly a large proportion (I'd say >1/2) can only see outcome, because...
A. Behaviourally we are wired for loss/reward, basic operant conditioning, so even after a rich full game people still melt down if they die or don't get hooks. Because that's the stipulated goal and as such people's measure of success or failure.
B. Humans in general are poor at multi faceted complex reasoning, such as assessing personal quality of game performance. This is a learned skill and I'd bet more than half the player base either haven't learned it yet, or ever, or are icapable of learning it.
C. Ego plays a big part in the ability to complex reason and is often the basis for point B. Its also hightened by the competitive nature of the game. Making missing the goal (Survive/sacrifice) even more of a sore point when it happens. Its important to check your ego pre- and post game.
D. Looking at the counter point if you do a lot in game but don't survive, its still possible to pip and you often do even in red ranks.
So I'd say looking at overall match performance, instead of outcome, the emblem system starts making more sense. Pipping and De-pipping may also be less of an issue with this view.

Legion; dragon's grip, trail of torment. dark devotion, coulrophobia with the iri button and stolen sketchbook
How this works; you never have to kick pallets (iri breaks them on vaulting), good duration on frenzy to get them al injured in one or two frenzy chains. Slow healing with coulrophobia since the terror radius is map wide with iri button while in frenzy + obsession spreading the terror radius with dark devotion after getting hit. They walk right into you when undetectable since legion is so short (do not use bunny legion the ears poke out above things). And to top it off no gen touchy denying my trail of torment because of dragon's grip.
This spreads so much confusion most of the time that I find them running around a deadzone injured. I also make maximum use of LoS blockers when approaching gens to avoid getting spotted early denying the distance. No looping with this build.
I like it. Definitely gonna try this one out, although I may not have dragons grip on legion yet.

I don't think it's fair to say all killers, some of them are good people who understand how games work. But yeah, there's a lot on here that are salty they have to play to win.
Its a poorly thought out blanket statement don't read to much into it.
Basically DS was open to abuse, its had a healthy change to limit its use like that and we'll see if it improves the game overall.
The only whining I see is neither killer or survivor biased, its just bad players in general complaining about changes and mechanics because they can.

You do one chase ideally. Bring them to basement. Hang out. I do this awful build when I'm drunk and don't feel like figuring out where people go. It'll get you a lot of hate but it's weirdly effective.
I run a gen killer doc a lot but I've never tried a basment build on him. This could be interesting.

Personally I've never dodged lobbies for swf cause if it sucks oh well on to the next game. Queue times for killers are amazingly short at the moment after all and I don't care to much about my rank. I just like trying to get good with new killers.
That being said I will dodge lobbies if you're on the mental list of names I have for people who I've seen be actively racist or use other derogatory terms in the post game chat. Someone else can deal with that lobby.
Exactly this.
I stopped caring about rank and pips, its all BS anyway.
I lobby dodge based on names, profiles from crappy people to play against or on my blacklist.
But...
Sometimes all matching costumes, often its just people memeing it up but it can be an iffy one.
Sometimes TTV's, as a lot of them (not all) engage in obnoxious behaviour to get more interaction time with the killer, although going back to watch your game can be fun.
Sometimes 4x flashlight and as someone who plays lots of Trapper sometimes if I see a map.
It really has nothing to do with SWF. 99% of the time I just hit ready and don't even look, often I forget what perks I have on.

Fortnite isn't crap just cause it doesn't have a plot LMAO, you might prefer a game with a background story line but it doesn't mean that games without it are bad. Fortnite has one role to play and one role only, so adding skins is a great way to add a little more variety (along with map changes). Adding any type of skin doesn't matter because there is no plotline to contradict or work against. You already have Demogorgon throwing grenades from a car window at Travis Scott hiding in Kit's Cantina, so what's stopping you from adding in Alien crouching behind a tree third partying with an AK? It doesn't make the story weird because there isn't really a story.
Anyways, you still have a point in that DBD actually has something of a plot/storyline with a little made up universe angle going on, so it really WOULDN'T make sense to just up and add everyone. Like, every addition has to have the overarching lore taken into account. It still leaves a lot of room for who it takes into the Entity's realm, but definitely not as much room as Fortnite LOL
I'm not saying every game needs a plot to be good many don't and are great.
Its just because of its popularity fortnite is often the go to comparison for online play, but what people don't get is that fortnite, while it can be fun, is mindless. So saying "fortnite got this why can't we" is not really a good point to make.
I think people make that point when they don't understand the value of plot and theme when its used. Even if DBD didn't try and make lore surrounding their idea it would still be a fun game but it even so it has a gritty slasher flick theme, which Aliens doesn't really fit into that well.

It's extremely difficult to win against aggressive survivors. Especially if they glue to gens. Gotta worry about ds and everything in between. They don't even need to be good at chasing. If they can just drop pallets and be chased for like half a minute or so. Better kiss any chance of winning goodbye. Unless they start causing blunders, and making a ton of mistakes by grouping up giving you free hits, so you can slug. Gen speeds can make average players win every time. I play with my GF and her brother a lot, and we just split up on gens, and I'm the highest skilled in the group, and I'm slightly better than average and we win 8/10 games, by just sticking on gens.
Yeah the game is survive by daylight really.
I still play with two friends of mine adn we have a no comms rule when in game to make it more thematic and harder.
Its very rare we get a killer who destroys us, some games are balanced but many when we are grouped up are just a 1-2 hook fest and then exit.
Also BNP and DS, UD combo are banned.
Its put some fear and some fun back int he game.

You know we're ignoring the fact that Xenmorphs are fighting in fortnite, duked it the ######### out in mortal kombat, pretty sure they have raced karts at one point. Theyre doing all kinds of #########, im pretty sure one can buddy up with demo and omg thats so cool. The fact that is a possibility is the reason i can't leave this bullshit ass game alone lol.
Im getting on mkx right now to kill bubba as a xenomorph
yeah they have and its always kind of contrived.
Also fortnite is mindless and kinda crap so it doesn't surprise me that anything goes there because lack of plot is th ebastion of the masses. Why do super hero movies rate so high when at base most of them are plotless crap, because it rates with the mindless masses.
I'm not saying it can't happen, it won't ruin the game but I'm not holding my breath for it because like most games that try and horseshoe in something that doesn't quite work it will feel contrived and crappy as a result.

And how is the xenomorph different from the Demogorgon?
Demogorgon serves the mind flayer and the Xenomorphs serve the Queen
Just because you personally don't want the xenomorphs in this game does not mean they shouldn't be implemented.
Xenomorphs work like a hive, they obey the queen but its to propogate the species. Part of what makes them such a great monster is that they are so biologically believable. There is very little willing suspension of disbelief to make then a really teffiying idea. Hence why it works so well.
Why then would this giant space ant basically hook someone three times for the entity? The answer is it wouldn't.
Any device to justify it would likely be very contrived hence my point.
Stranger things set up the demogorgom in a similar light but then took this tangent where they were agents of an already stange shadowy overlord, so they have been set up themtically to obey the instructions of a creature like the entity and its totally feasible it would hook survivors in its name.
So the demogorgon makes sense but the xenomorph doesn't really. This is the importance of plot and character development even of an antagonist that makes a story great.
Aliens persists as one of the greatest franchises thoughout the years because of this. Even if the later films are kinda crappy they can't undermine how great the original series was.
I'm not saying I hate the idea but it feels thematically forced ergo my point that it probably doesn't really belong.
Theme is important as it makes up the idea, the aesthetic and even the powers that killers have. To deny that misses what makes the xenomorph such a great monster to begin with.

The tradition and hypothesis of its gameplay does not prevent a Xenomorph, a ghost or a doll from entering the game just because people think about their qualities and are not suitable to enter this game just because it is their point of view. It has more to do with agreements and permits in the commercial area.
Yes but you failed to address the themtaic aspect that I'm talking about in that why would a xenomorph serve the entity and hook survivors when their goal is a biological one, to cocoon and reproduce via hosts.
It could be included but it would be thematically forced, a stretch at best. I'd rather not see that kind of half arsed attempt to add a franchise. Givcen the nature of xenomorphs not as serial killers but as animals just doing their thing. It doesn't kind of fit.

Remember when people said that Saw wouldn't fit DBD?
Remember when people said that Demogorgon wouldn't fit DBD?
Remember when people said that Silent Hill wouldn't fit DBD?
no I don't
Saw fits in DBD because its a slasher flick,
Demogorgon fits in DBD because in the series it was already the minion of a shadow monster so how is the entity different?
Silent hill was a stupid premise to begin with, because traffic cone head is just the protagonists own guilt and self loathing made manifest, but hey its still beholden to some higher darkness albeit the darkness in the protagonist's head, so it fits in DBD.
From a hive building behaviourally insectiod alien race, what is its motivation to hook survivors in service of the entity? It makes no sense and doesn't fit themtaically in what DBD has crafted.
Yes you could horse shoe it in but it would feel forced, just by the very nature of how in depth they have built up the xenomorph in terms of backstory.
You are welcome to disagree but do better than that.

My problem is that it makes a very balanced killer completely broken for little cost (2 hatchets if your running belt)
It’s like if wraith had an addon that allowed instadowns off of surprise hits.
Iri head huntresses tend to slug since you can get 3 people down so long as your aim is good and that will circumvent hook states if they 4 man slug
I do believe a good iri head huntress would beat a 4 man object pretty much every time bar a couple of maps.
It cannot be said for any other good addon since the next best addon is probably tombstone( Takes alot of time to charge and move slower) or pinky finger( Requires you to be close enough to hit m1 aswell as hitting direct bottle).
The addon is busted and needs a huge rework period
All good points and pehaps there needs to be more of a downside to iri hatchets but none of it is inherently toxic. Which is what the OP was talking about. Even if someone feels iri head is unblanaced its not an excuse to send vitriolic crap to another player post game.
People talk about it like the whole game is ruined because of this one powerful addon, when if play you stealthy then you can largely avoid it. Switch up your tactics against an iri head huntress to avoid the killer rather than loop the killer.
People seem so obsessed with one style of play that anything that has a powerful counter to that one style of play needs to be burned from the game ASAP. Its a kind of infuriatingly narrow view.
Anything powerful seems to get watered down so that people can loop more effectively making the game less varied and more generic with each change.
I don't mind going up against powerful addons because they mix the game up, make it scary and make you really think about how you play survivor. Otherwise its run around the rock 3 times drop pallet rinse and repeat till caught or lost.
-
As a predominately killer player I kinda like haddonfield.
Its different, mixes the game up a bit.
By game design its almost impossible to defend the gens well as killer but its a different kind of game to the other maps. I think without that variety the game would feel even more stagnant. It's already very 'samey'.
I would like to see more maps that really mix it up and a removal of map offerings so that you can't get the offering squads trying to gun for the easiest game possible for themselves.
Seriously if you take every second chance perk and a haddonfield offering on comms with your buddies then you really aren't earning that "gg ez".
-
Real life health consequences for a game are never worth it.
You don't have to justify a dam thing to anyone in game for that.
-
I love the original alien series it really is one of the best examples of great sci-fi (with a compelling, believable, bad ass, well written female protagonist) but I just don't think a xenomorph fits into the lore of DBD.
It would feel kinda forced.
-
@Phasmamain said:
Iri head is toxic as you pretty bring it knowing you’ll give the survivors no chance of winning. It’s like survivors bringing OoO in a SWF with a key
Your objective is to get hooks not necessarily just kills
I'm sorry this is going to be snide as... but this is the kind of dumb ######### the OP is talking about.
Iri head doesn't stop you needing to hook people, nor is it an auto win. Its one less health state from a hatchet hit, which is very strong but your point about "getting hooks not just necessarily kills" make no sense whatsoever. Iri head shortens chases, it doesn't circumvent hook states.
Yes its powerful and in the hands of a good player somewhat oppressive but that can be said of any good addon in the hands of the right player. Is it "toxic" no.
If you think shorter chases is the equivalent of SWF with OoO and a key I think you are placing to much emphasis on iri heads impact.
-
I agree completely.
360's are a stupid mechanic, spinning on the spot like an idiot shouldn't be a thing. The game feels less like horror suvivor and more like some crappy meme game with that garbage going on. Also it only works if the killer is frame dropping or lagging out, its not skill, its bad optimisation. These 360 idiots drop like sacks of ######### and then rage at you for it in the end game chat.
I didn't mind the new animations, the looked less janky (at least to me) and turns and transitions looked more natural rather than spinning on the spot at high speed on your toe, on grass.
-
From a gameplay perspective it makes sense given its another machanic that can be leveraged for advantage during mindgames etc.
A lot of the mechanics are kinda rediculous from a thematic perspective when you look at them. I think the game would be scarier without the red stain but it has a use albeit a silly one from a horror standpoint.
-
Just make everyone who brings a brand new part have their shoelaces tied together for the first few gens, they can only hop around and if they try to vault they fall over.
-
Its an example of bad mechanics though, just people spamming the light over and over.
Yeah its avoidable but maybe flashlights should have a failure % after multiple uses, that thematic kind of flickering flashlight that dies out just when you need it.
Put the terror back into DBD, I don't want tag simulator I want a scary horror experience.
-
Yeah the amount of second chancery in survivors is always a bit of a nutter.
Can't believe folks are bemoaning the DS changes when you see the same 4 perks every game across four survivors.
Escaping having blown every second chance you have is nothing to brag about.
-
I'll throw my hat in the ring for jumpscare Myers.
Also Tombstone Myers.
I've always had fun with set up killers though, Trapper and Hag are just great when it works right.

Exactly this.
Basically spirit requires you to be observant, predictive and think quickly. All learned skills that many don't possess in day to day life let alone a fast reaction speed environment like DBD.
Try watching her chase someone else and see what she does, while being as unpredictable as possible switching up every play. Most of the time I don't catch people with stridor I catch them because I know exactly where they'll be and most of the time they typically are there.
Because people always seem to do the same thing over and over and never change it up.
I've caught all 4 survivors twice each in the same trapper trap in single games before, how just how? Because most people don't know how to change tac.

If your FPS is that low, I think you've got bigger issues.
There is plenty of screen stutter events during chase that can make a spinning survivor just vanish from screen. Especially if you get the blood lust stutter right when you swing.

Okay, but they literally say they did it because you were being toxic in post game chat; or proceed to just insult you in general.
That's pretty clear confirmation.
They then proceed to just stand there hitting you on hook a lot of the time. It doesn't take a genius to figure out they are displeased.
Furthermore, on top of that, they will literally ignore gen after gen after gen being done to still just stay on you in a lot of those cases, that is the exact opposite of good strategy.
That may happen from time to time but are you not just answering my objective point with an extreme and niche example of bad behaviour.
Not all tunneling is the result of angry killers who want to be toxic in response to good play. Sometimes it just makes sense to take someone down. Assuming such is the porblem and the point I was making.

Survivors could ask the same question.
I literally played only 2 survivor games the past 2 days and got facecamped in BOTH games. First game because "I cleansed his ruin" and the other game for absolutely no reason. When I escaped the 2nd game despite his silly facecamp attempt I obviously messaged him because I want those people to lose their motivation to play killer.
Both killers had noed. Big surprise, isn't it?
Those people shouldn't be playing dbd. Playing solo survivor already does suck most of the time. I don't need this kind of daily reminder how much the devs messed up survivor gameplay.
I immediately switched to killer again and won EASILY without camping, without tunneling even ignoring people that got unhooked in my face. Still gave the last survivor the hatch - because I'm better than those sweaty tryhard noed players who seem to forget there's people playing this game not bots.
Why send a message with the intent of making someone lose their motivation to play. Why message at all?
Don't you see how that's part of the problem.
Someone played the game in a manner that I didn't enjoy and I sent them an abusive message afterward because I can't just let it go and play it as a game.
It's a game, it doesn't matter and you aren't doing some social service by sending an abusive message in any scenario no matter what happens in game or how you manage to try and justify it to yourself.
If you can't walk away from a silly game that doesn't matter, even a bad one, wihtout getting involved in vitriolic hate mail then maybe its you shouldn't play.
-
Yeah hook counter doesn't seem that helpful, its not hard to remember how many hooks you have.
The biggest issue I have with it though is it looks really out of place, not only is it badly positioned lik emost o fthe HUD for this type of game but it just doesn't belong aesthetically. It looks like a hud piece from a scifi shooter not DBD.
-
When you've had fun, anything else is irrelevant.
-
Its kind of two styles of play,
Thematic play, chase, mindgame, run, hide etc generally more enjoyable, usually lower ranks. This game at its best.
Then there's competitive abuse every mechanic possible for advantage play, absuing tech, twirling on spot, hugging the same rock with a smaller hitbox and just circling it to waste time, constant moonwalking, mashing locker tech, meta builds, agressive DS etc etc. A lot of it is unnecessary to win games and generally not as fun to play. Definitely reduces the horror element of the game to a comedic mess. Usually the higher ranks and the more post game salty crowd.

I mean I don't, you get a lot better by playing better players/coordinated teams.
Even if it sucks a lot of the time.
My issue as survivor though is if you are a half decent survivor and you run a killer for a decent amount of time, instead of just immediately going down like a potato- you'll often get tunelled because you made the killer mad by "being toxic".
If a great looper is in a worse position than their teammates allowing for me to down and re-hook them and remove them from the game quickly, then that's just good strategy rather than leaving them to heal up and burn your time again.
Being angry often has nothing to do with it, never assume the opponents state of mind, that kind of misunderstanding is what often leads to toxic exchanges.
"Its not personal, its just business."
-
Custom game with bots, practice to your hearts content anytime of day is the real solution here.
-
I'm not a big fan of some of the changes. Mainly the new HUD.
Clown was buffed so I don't see the issue other than maybe he needs a bit more.
The new animations aren't bad so I don't really mind them, and spinning in place in a circle as a mechanic was dumb anyway. (personal opinion people are free to disagree).
Sure the bugs but there are always bugs.
Queue times don't seem to have changed much (for me anyway but that's very region dependent).
Crying that the sky is falling because of a few unwanted changes and bugs is a bit much.

You'll have to agree to disagree then. I've seen your discussions you've started and one of them is basically how do I play Myers. I rest my case. I've played this game for thousands of hours and I what keeps me coming back is the fact I have equal opportunity to outplay the killer and the killer has to outplay me and vice versa.
At rank 1 I don't ever see players wanting to roleplay a horror experience. What I do see is skilled players engaging in a pvp experience winning some, losing some. I'll see the same names throughout the week.
I don't think you understand what this game is about. Again, I don't want to be in your sick fetish of being empowered over other people. Making you feel big. You lobbied up as killer - not god. You don't get to pass judgement over the trial because you chose the chaser role.
" if you want an esports game where you just abuse mechanics better than someone else does" LOL
Shame club penguin shut down.
Why is the MMR being rolled out? If it's not a pvp game then why rate players based on skill? Perhaps your idea of the game is lesser than mine?
Asking the forum for tips about gameplay has nothing to do with what we are talking about. Its clear from your response that you don't get it.
Look up fetish I don't think you understand what that means either.
The killer is not god, they are the antagonist, if the antagonist is weak then there is no challenge, is my point.
The fact that the antagonist is also a person and its PVP muddies the water a lil bit, but killers should be a threat or there is no real gameplay. Survivors aren't on equal footing and shouldn't be, but the survivor team can win if they coordinate well, that's the point.
Weak killers that can be beaten easily one on one by survivors undermine the very theme of the game. Survival horror!
If you want bland by the numbers gameplay then asymetric horror survival isn't for you.
I've been very clear in making this point, if you can't grasp it then there is nothing more I can do, but hey that's the internet for you. Think what you like. But the game suffers everytime the killer role gets watered down.
Why do you think the last questionare was about is the game scary, when was the last time you felt like you wanted to flee from the killer, rather than have them chase you so you could waste their time?
That's not survival horror that's M1 simulator with Scooby Doo esq. loop scenes.
I'm all for puting the tension back into the survivor role its makes it vastly more fun to play otherwises its really bland.
Why you keep bringthing this back to some motivation on my part to play killer and dominate others I have no idea. You are assuming motivation becasue you appear to lack any objective rebuttal.
Here I'll engage in some assumed motivation for you, if you get off on dominating killers by outlooping them as survivoir and draw your motivation for the game from that, then maybe you should talk to someone about your personal inadequacy issues and try and find some success in real life. Then you could enjoy the game as a survival horror rather than a need to outpreform someone online. Do you suffer from impotence maybe?
(That last section is just snide but I wanted to demonstrate your argument style in a form you might understand, its all assumed hyperoble and is nothing but wasted argument, this is an example of poor debate, try and learn from it).

No I queue up to have equal opportunity to perform as killer or survivor. It's a pvp game.
Go play roleplay games on gmod or fivem if you want that experience. I'm not here to appease your fetish for being the 'big scary killer' and you're guaranteed to win. No thanks.
Ok so you don't know what the game is about then. As a survivor you should be in no way on equal footing as a killer.
Only as an effective team should survivors pose a challenge to killers, hence you'd expect for at least half if not three of your team to die in that setting. Making escape intense, gameplay scary and killers powerful.
Survivor is more fun when you have to escape the killer not run the killer around wasting time, these are two different experiences.
It has nothing to do with fetish it has to do with horror, pvp or otherwise, if you want an esports game where you just abuse mechanics better than someone else does, then there are plenty of them arleady, its thematic experience that makes games interesting. Otherwise you could have stickman A chases stickman B in a game of PVP tag, thats not what this is.
DBD is a horror game, PVP sore loser babies are ruining the game experience because they are screaming for balance in an asymetric game. The keyword here is ASYMETRIC horror survival.
If you queue to have equal oportunity as a solo survivor as you would a killer player then I say again I don't think you understand what this game is about.
-
I use DH a lot its a great perk made even greater by the new synergy with undying. I've been looking forward to the release since they anounced it.
It's been a blatantly obvious synergy that was pointed out by the devs in the patch notes weeks before release.
The thing that is most funny to me, is that you somehow missed this and attribute its newfound commonality to dumbfounded killers clawing for a solution to the ruin nerf from gaming videos...
Then you say its hilarious/predictable/pathetic which is a point as stupid as it is thoughtless.
I'm not sure what your endgame was here other than anouncing to the world your an idiot who missed the obvious from the patch notes.

What does that have to do with any of this?
That's the typical kind of response from people who can't debate a point objectively or effectively.
It has nothing to do with the topic being raised by the original post.

Killers should be OP, it should be scary to play survivor and survivors should be afraid of the killer.
What kind of horror story has a weak killer who fails to catch or kill anyone?
Do people want an unscary horror game that is just a ring-a-ring a rosey simulator?
I really think people don't seem to get what this game is about.

Personally I find BM'ing to be the silliest of taunts. You mash buttons on your own equipment wasting your own time and I'm meant to feel bad, knock yourself out.
Its like saying "I'll show this punk I'll punch myself in the face lets see how they like that!"

To look to bright and obstruct view, that is all.

Yeah after 600 hours I find DBD is a good one off couple of matches kind of game.
Doesn't require the commitment of a RPG or grand strategy, I just feel like having a few quick games and then calling it.
Best way to play, don't care about pips or outcomes just play the game and then call it a day.

Well look what we have here folks! Someone who clearly thinks hes better than the rest of us cause he's more "mature" when in reality, he's probably the biggest baby when it comes to these sort of things. I posted this story cause I thought it would be funny to share, not to hear read you condescending comment.
Your tantrum response only reinforces my point. Well done.

yeah I couldn't care less about the new movement, looks fine to me.
The new HUD is a mess though, really poorly thought out and laid out.
-
Posts celebrating toxicity add little to the community.
You are not justified in your actions as described in the story nor is the killer, all I see here is a bunch of children who lack the maturity needed to interact online.

Literally nothing else in this patch bothers me other than the HUD which I find to busy and kinda uncomfortable to use.
