The kicker here is the "you suck" message at the end its just not necessary and says more about the quality of the survivors you were forced to play with rather than you as killer. Toxicity in red ranks is rampart and really why I don't like hitting the reds.
I do like the doc though but that build will probably hurt you more than help you.
Here's my unsolicited suggestion... Try a gen killer build.
Distressing, unnerving presence, overcharge, and whatever you like as 4th, a chase perk or another gen killer perk, STBFL, Pop, Thana, sloppy, huntress lullaby, BBQ for BP's
Calm and Disc or iri addon (queen or king doesn't matter)
Knock it up a notch with a game or hawkins offering and you have map wide blast where unless the survivors are on their A-game with hitting the skill checks they'll regress the gens for you and all you have to do is run around and hit them. One big blast at the start with a follow up soon after then just let your jumbo aura do the work for you.
Most of the time the game delay is enough for you to get a couple of survivors out and then its a cake walk as there is nowhere to hide.
People will say this build only works against new players but I find it highly effective at all ranks.
You'll either get overwhelmed by the number of gens exploding all the time (cue maniacal laughter) or you'll get a team who can hit those great skill checks which in most cases they'll probably wreck you anyway so just roll with it and have a laugh.
Be ready for the salt, win or lose, I find a lot of players play survivor as if they don't actually want to play the game, they just want to belt out the gens and leave within 5mins so they can wait in another 10 min queue. This build can really drag it out which can generate a lot of hate.

I lobby dodge when making baseless grumpy old man assumptions about player's personalities based on the obnoxiousness of their player names.
Sometimes I see a lobby of really stupid/racist/sexist player names and I think hmm potential lobby full of childish emotional #########, maybe I'll try again.
-
Stealthy is one way to play and its just as legit as any other.
As a killer main and horror movie fan since the movie golden age that was the 80's, I prefer survivors who are thematically trying to avoid the killer than those bouncing up and down in my face trying to get me to chase them.
Frankly a high stakes game of cat and mouse is far better than running around the same rock 4 times then rinse and repeat. Its horror not Scooby Do, (as much as I do also love the Scoob).
-
Go watch the original Halloween.
Laurie stabs Myers in the neck with a screwdriver I believe it is. He is stunned and she escapes his grasp.
Not every element of this game is some toxic response to malicious behaviour, we need to stop fabricating conflict amongst the community.
-
Yeah I did the systematic logistics leveling.
I level LF till BBQ was unlocked. I then proceeded to level each other killer till I had at least 2 tiers of BBQ unlocked on each.
Then I went for perks I wanted on killers I liked. After a bit of that I prestiged the doc for the bloody lab coat and then called it.
I don't think I'll prestige anyone else as having unlocked the number of perks I have now I'm done losing and regrinding them all.
-
Any killer can go addon-less, some are easier than others but I typically play without addons.
It makes using high level addons feel much more impactful when you do.
Also makes me feel less invested in the game so I tend to not bother sweating it.
My personal favs are
- Bubba, if you can steer well while sawing he doesn't really need em.
- Trapper, now if you devote time to setting up the map with a trap laden 3 gen you'll wreck a team in the late game without bags, its fun.
- Hag, she's my main and can do just fine without addons, also makes you really good at estimating port distance
- Spirit because most survivors make dumb decisions against her anyway
These are just some of my favs.

even if i did have undying, i am very...meh...against ruin. where as i know heavy gen pressure is required to rank up high and be "good" i just 1) have ######### luck and my totems would prolly be gone within 2 min every match and 2) rather just use pop and or sloppy (loadout varying on which i choose) for SOME slowdown.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1910726#Comment_1910726
but i AM excited to try the undying DH idea once the undying nerf happens. id run DH now if i was confident enough with my skills to be able to do anything if and when DH gets cleansed 30 seconds into the match but whatever
and VOLCZ, that was my main reason for looing into this.......,my survivor builds i kinda flip flop between are getting old and am looking to see if there are decent solo q builds including SG?
good point, just you were looking at getting blight specifically for undying, so if they are changing it you may not be a fan of the changes.
That said it sounds like the change will synergize better with devour hope which I'm looking forward to, so if ruin isn't your MO perhaps its worth grabbing.
Outside of undying I'm not a fan of blight in general. The whole bounce around the map thing kinda irks me. Great theme for a killer but wierd clunky power that kinda feels off to me.

Yes walking around setting a trap at every loop and choke point is big brain predictions. The faster you can hit control the less good your placements need to be. Or you can put on rusty shackles and enjoy one of the games premier easy modes.
Actually placing traps at every loop and choke point isn't using your brain. Its precitable and less effective but hey you do you.
I'll continue to play her well ;)
-
A few comments saying she's dull but that's just not true.
Hag is about set up and prediction. You set up well and predict well the payoff is so good it feels oppressive and people scream to nerf her.
She doesn't need to mindlessly chase, when you've placed traps well then you pop about the map like mad and down multiple survivors.
Its a poor hag who puts ten traps around one hook. Its a well planned hag who hooks someone near pre-set traps and pops back for the hook trade if needed.
Bold careless survivors who want to just run around in circles holding W are the bread and butter of the Hag and there are a lot of them.
-
They are patching in undying changes so you may want to hold off on blight until after that to see how big of an impact it has.

Its been on the test server and i havent really seen anything positive with the synergy with other hexs. Totems are usually gone within 3-4 minutes so you just dont see the value.
If undying did anything for survivors it helped them memorize totem spawns
bummer

So you think they will not see ruin and just ignore your flaming totem? Good luck with that.
undying and devour, I didn't say anything about ruin.
The current change reduces the effectiveness of undying/ruin, which is a bummer, but has better synergy for undying/devour hope. I'm looking forward to seeing how well devour can stay up without as much constant monitooring of it by me.
-
yeah undying and devour is now a viable option. I'm looking forward to no having to baby sit my totem as much.
-
I just play and make choices I think are right at the time, that is all.
-
I just don't want any of you getting RSI or bad knees. ;)
-
its one of those feast or famine kind of games for me. Sometimes I have a hankering to play and I have a heavy run of multiple games over several days.
I like the current state of the game but maybe some kind of varied game state of different objective would freshen it up a bit. Not sure what that would be though. I'd like them to ad AI for solo play, but that's off topic.
Till either something else grabs my interest or the general tantrum childishness of the community turn me off it again for a bit I'll keep hitting it up.
Came back on Saturday and this week has been great no real man babies till last night, will probably hit up a few more games but Pillars of Eternity 2 will likely consume my weekend.
-
Garbage or inexperienced?
This is one of the root causes of toxicity and new player attrition, just some food for thought.
-
No she isn't that easy. People piss and moan about her because her playstyle is kinda far removed from the typical loop fest that DBD is for most other killers.
Basically her mind game comes down to faking out survivors and guesswork, while the survivors have to predict well and use a bit of guesswork too.
This makes even un-mind-gamable trash loops able to play mind games at.
So the often used argument is that it has no counters and its all just random luck. This argument doesn't appreciate that the counter is good observation and prediction.
Most players will tend to repeat their behaviour and are predictable. If you are observant you should be able to adequately predict how she's moving and move in the correct counter. Its hard because the mo of many players is hold W and abuse small hitbox turning. No thought needed.
In the hands of a good player any killer can feel oppressive just as good survivors may feel op, I guess given the player base's inability to adjust their gameplay to spirit then she can be strong even in the hands of a mediocre player.
Does this make her strong overall? I'd say yes... Easy? Easier maybe but you still need to sus her out to do well... Over powered and unbalanced? well that's up for debate.
Does this get a lil easier with stridor? yes but you don't really need it and it can work against you at small loops. Once you get a good ear for it then you can free up that perk slot with something else. Using spirit to focus on game sounds has made me better at finding survivors on other killers.
Is she fun? I say yes as both killer and survivor.
-
Yeah I can't say I have much motivation to prestige anyone else after Doc 2 for the bloody lab coat, it just seemed more thematic.
Loss of all perks is just brutal though took forever to get BBQ&C back, which really helps. In the end you play other killers so can level up the neutered prestige one.

It worked fine for me as well.
the biggest problem was for completely new players that got matched against well experienced ones though. Which already happens now.... and it was clearly stated that the MMR had to be calculated in at least 10 matches before it can actually work.
Maybe that'll be the new "game the system" exploit, throw your first ten matches and then enjoy your juicy low success sweet spot for a good run easy 4ks.
I'm not condoning this I just wonder what all the red, red, red, brown smurf turd teams will do next.
-
I don't think I've ever had a game where I ran noed and all totems got done before the last gen. In two years of play.
I don't bring it that often as its a wasted perk in most cases. Typically if noed doesn't activate it means everyone is already dead before the last gen is done.
It gets cleasned a lot and is usually only good for one more kill, that's why I don't often run it because you are down one perk for the whole game and often get one extra kill from it before its cleansed.
I mean you are running a perk that relies on survivors not doing their second objective and then continuing to do so while not really playing well once its activated. I prefer perks where I dictate the state of use and can leverage it for the whole game.
Not to say I haven't pulled a 4k from the jaws of defeat with it before but that's often not what happens.

Last time MMR was on, the matchmaking was completely broken.
Players with 20 hours going against 3000+ hour players. It was bad.
What's really funny is when they ran the last MMR change I had really balanced matches at my rank and general experience level almost every game. I must be the one person who's wasn't bitten by MMR and can't wait for it to come back. Purp to Red that is.

I'm no expert its just what made the game more fun for me. Good luck in the fog.
-
The way around this is to realize "you are not responsible for anyone else's fun".
Now let me qualify that statement, it is not to say you have free license to grief or harass or bully others.
The very thematic element of this game is 4 people try to escape a vicious killer who is out to murder/devour/sacrifice them to some dark entity. So taking on the vicious killer role will you choose to do these heinous things politely or efficiently?
So I play thematically, what would a vicious killer like LF or Myers do in this situation, chase the bleeding guy or let him go and heal up and chase the other guy ensuring everyone gets a fair go. Remember if you go the fair route it is likely you will still cop abuse, so as killer you still weather the cost of a less proficient playstyle and the post game abuse. Not a great deal.
Just make the choices you think are best at the time and forget about whether that choice will be frowned upon by some arbitrary opinion of how the game should be played or what's fair.
When you have the experience to wreck even the most dedicated swf brute squad then you have the luxury to pick and choose how polite you want to be. Till then make the play you think is best, or enjoy most, not the play some random other person thinks you should play.
Win, lose or draw if you played it your way then you'll be satisfied. No amount of sore loser/bad winner tantrum salt can take that from you and nor should it.
-
if its down to 2 and one guy just stealth around the map not trying to get stuff done then I'd rather give the hatch to those who gamble on getting that last gen done over hiding out till the hatch.
If everyone just hides then they're all getting strung up if I find em or the hatch first.
-
@EvilJoshy said:
Sounds like the killer was both a sore loser and inexperienced. There are times when you see a survivor run to a certain area and you need to decide "Should I commit or break off?". If you spend too much time on one survivor than the other 3 of repairing gens without danger. This is what people refer to when they say "Apply Pressure"
@kingcarl2012 said:

It can be hard as a newer killer to just break off chase unless you see someone else of have a perk that helps find people pressuring 1 is better than pressuring none in my mind.
Most likely inexperienced, but even experienced players get target fixation, its what killed the red baron and he's regarded as one of the best of all time and should have known better, in a scenario with much higher consequences.
You can often over fixate if perceive your target as lower skill than you as you should be able to catch them. That thought can really feed into it.
-
Well the chase is probably a great example of "target fixation psychology" killer over commits because the focus on catching what's in front of you makes you disregard all other caution, in this case no pressure on other survivors and you losing a bunch of gens for one chase.
Its a carry over predator - prey evolutionary behaviour that we still suffer from mechanically.
Also its why people drive straight into an object in their car because they become so fixated on avoiding it that their attention and focus on it actually leads them to move towards it "attention fixation/avoidance psychology". Lots of research about this in respect to people colliding with stuff while riding bikes. Especially if they are trying to catch up to someone they are racing, participants will often collide with the back of the other rider rather than actually going around them. Its the double whammy of fixation and avoidance together.
@lagosta said:
There is a hypothesis that states that after a killer commits to a chase for too long, giving up objectives and time, their mindset changes to "I win if I catch you".
I don't a killer main, but I experienced something like that in a game where 2 died in the basement in mid to early game. Felix was giving me a run for the money and it was genuinely a pleasant experience being outplayed by him and I committed to the chase for a long time mostly because Nea was following me, click the flashlight, and create loud noise notifications. I was more ignoring her than chasing him at that point, bc I knew the moment I left him alone, he would start working on gens or find the hatch. Needless to say, they were both mad in the post-game chat.
"I win if I catch you" shift in focus suggestion is a symptom of this effect. So its kind of spot on.
Now we can't assume motivation but... maybe they got really annoyed by being unable to catch you and that's why they camp and smack you on hook at the end. Which again plays into "target fixation" because once you are fixated you stop activating the rational aspects of your brain and really start feeding into the emotional, a much more primitive function.
You could almost say it was a ritualistic chest beating at having caught a "fixated on prey item," Really tap into the primitive ape part of your brain.
I would hypothesize that from a brain function perspective, its why playing killer can make someone so much more irritated at the game than survivor might, as your goals a relatively static as survivor and unless you are new to the game its no longer that scary so you aren't activating a lot of emotional function when you play.
The mechanics of killer taps into that chase dynamic that is still buried deep in our brains and there is plenty of evidence that tells us from a behaviour perspective its a much more emotionally volatile area to be activating. Especially once you've resigned rational calculation over to target fixation.
Not justifying the behaviour just saying we still be apes deep down.

Did I ever say it wasn't the smart move? I'm just posting this for content and humor. No need to throw ######### at me.
Oh man sorry wasn't trying to throw #########.
Reread what I posted and kind of came off like that though. What I mean is I see a lot of genuine posts about this and people do get really upset about it, (which is a bit over the top as its just a game).
Wasn't directing that at you personally just wondering overall if folk who genuinely get put out about this really understand how silly it all is?
-
There is one gen left and no deaths, what's this guys incentive to not just camp one out at this point?
They clearly haven't succeeded in chasing survivors down so the logical conclusion now is to switch up and rely on the players to come to you and kill themselves with altruism. Which LF can really punish.
I'm not sure how this community keeps failing to see that at this point camping probably makes more sense than chasing. Do people just not know how the game works? Or is there just a portion of the community who are so wrapped up in how they think the game should be played that any deviation from that is somehow a malicious assault on their fun?
I'm not trying to troll here I'm genuinely perplexed.
-
Yeah as RNG goes that's pretty bad.
But as Hag that could be bread and butter. I wouldn't break the pallets if they went down I'd just trap around them.
You'll either port to the other side and continue chase real close or you'll scare em back over into your waiting claws. You could have a lot of fun with this as Hag.

I'm assuming they directed that at the Killer itself and not the player.
The moment I see Spirit I know with 100% certainty it will not be a fun match.
Perhaps and you are entitled to your opinion about spirit, but you can't assume the opinion of others about spirit or the intent of the player who chooses to play her.
I for one don't mind facing her as I enjoy the guesswork element of her power, it mixes the game up a bit from the very very repetitive loop this guy around the same rock till pallet drop then rinse and repeat play. Which makes up 90% of this game.
Sometimes you outsmart her, sometimes she outsmarts you, but that element of the unknown creates the tension that should be present in a survival horror game. To bemoan it is to undermine the game's very theme.

"Also shoutout to the mega mind using an escape cake, not sure why you'd use any point related offering when doing this strat. Hiding from the point pinata is not how you get points."
I mean, they dont know that they will go against a Spirit. If I play against a Spirit, I will also just stick on Gens. The Killer does not want me to have fun, so I will try to get done with the game as fast as possible.
And if the Spirit is not really good (like seen in the Screenshot, no offense, but 6k BPs really is not much), this results in a super-fast game.
"The killer does not want me to have fun"
That is a really presumptuous and detrimental mindset to have based solely on the killer choice.
-
Its like any game there is a massive section of players that don't want to game they want to win. They'll often pull out any tantrum throwing excuse to have easy wins to.
I don't think its confined to either side of the player base, its very presumptuous to say all survivors want is easy wins.
That said while there have been massive improvements for killers in general, it still feels like survivor is to easy to me.
Imagine a horror movie where the killer/slasher/monster was only a mediocre threat to the cast, you end up with blair witch rather than texas chainsaw. A watered down and largely neutered horror experience. This is why I miss the old mori, it was scary, now its worthless.
-
Hey if people want a chat function then no harm in having one, just the option to turn i toff has to be there too.
As even when you give a GG a return GG is about 50/50 with abuse tantrums.
Personally I keep that ######### turned off, not because it upsets me but because its just not worth my time.
-
yeah last thing I want is to turn her into a chase killer. Looping bores the ######### outa me, I don't have to do it with Hag, hence why she's my main.
I wish we had more killers with varying mechanics like Hag that really switch up the gameplay.

are you surprised? looping is boring, most loops on most maps cant even be mindgamed, which is the fun of looping for killer
Yeah this, if I'm in a game where we keep running around the same unmindgamable rock/trash etc every chase then I'll pitch my tent. Its a tiresome form of play that is very bland. I feel like there is very little good mindgaming anymore.
-
I just... wow, I mean wow. "I'm red ranked but I can't escape from red ranked killers its match makings fault."
Maybe you don't belong in red ranks yet. Perhaps pipping as survivor is way to easy and needs fixing. Lastly as a red ranked survivor you shouldn't be going against green ranked killers if match making is working.
If that's what you want from the game then ask yourself do you really want to play or do you just want easy wins?
-
Yeah 7000 BP's for the chance to see the animation probably only once in a game. It's complete crap.
-
I don't think that was tunneling though, basically you chose the best target to chase in that scenario and it happened to be the guy who was just off hook. It sounds like everyone had a rich full game if it gets to last gen left then do what needs to be done.
Anyone accusing you of malicious tunneling in this scenario is someone who doesn't seem to understand what this game is about.
Being tunneled out of oblivion on 1 hook at game start sucks, but outside of that scenario its just killers picking the best target of choice and playing optimally. Felix should be yelling at his teammates who sprinted off to leave him to die not the killer who spotted this scenario and chose at the time the weakest target to chase. Take a protection hit for gods sake. You're a team.
Yes killers can be obnoxious and toxic, all players can be, but often making a good choice strategy wise as killer, is interpreted as toxic abuse by the other side.
You are going to patrol back to hook because it where at least 2 survivors are going to be if you don't find em on gens. One of those survivors is injured if the other sprints off into the mist then mr injured is going back on hook. Its just a good choice.
-
I don't think one side is more complaining than the other, or even more toxic... its 4 vs 1 so of course you are going to get more unpleasant survivors.
But I feel even when I play survivor I often have to call out the behaviour of my teammates, its just childish and tantrum throwing to a point of disbelief.
The number one argument you hear all the time is "X is boring", but often when you read between the lines the real complaint is "I can't loop x easily, or predict x easily" but that's kind of the point. I don't want easy killers that I can run circles around.
This isn't scooby do its survival horror. Now I love scooby do, but when I play a survival horror I want to sweat to survive, it should be scary and confronting. When I escape it should feel like an achievement because the big scary killer/monster is a big threat. Very few games feel like that. Why are survivor queues ballooning because a lot of players sweat more as killer and that feels off.
Problem is its online multiplayer so if the game was truly threatening killers, nobody would play survivor as people don't want to fight to survive, they want easy escape self affirmation and twitch followers to boost ego. When they are denied that they meltdown.
I've learned that no matter what you do as killer you will often cop a face load of abuse so like everyone else I stopped playing nice, I play dirty. I do exactly what I want depending on what the situation calls for, its not personal its just business.
When I play killer I play the big scary monster that isn't polite because that's immersive. Its also what you sign up for as survivor and what I expect to face when playing survivor. Anything else is a watered down experience.
-
As a hag main I'd say Hag requires a little bit of coordinated cautious play which you often don't get even from good swf teams.
Typically the good teams coordination comes from how they do gens an try and tie up the killer, often they are bold with the hook rescues though, which plays into hag's traps and caution is often out the window and has been for a long time in this game.
She does a great job of countering to one trick pony loop and bold play of a massive amount of the player base, so, as always, she's bemoaned because you can't just do the same thing over and over against her and win.
Quick tip its poor hag who places a bunch of traps around the one hook. Its a waste.
-
I agree that a lot of the behaviours you describe aren't really toxic just obnoxious. They annoy me because they are immersion breaking. I don't play this game for the social interaction so when its forced on me like that I just find it irksome and unnecessary.
That said I'd say the only reason endgame chat abuse has dropped off is crossplay doesn't allow for it in many cases. Prior to crossplay you'd get 1 salty message every 2 games as killer, I'd say from my experience. About 1 in 5 are truly abusive and in time I've been playing there have been three death threats.
I don't have comments turned on in my profile because that would just invite more. But check out other people's profiles from time to time, if its public then there is typically a stream of just garbage abuse posts in relation to this game.
I'd say that the post game environment of DBD is one of the more negative I've ever experienced and that's a shame.
-
As a predominantly killer player, its why I got into the game, I do 'kind of' agree with you. If a bit on the ranty side.
While I don't feel the perks listed are OP specifically they are definitely overused.
The gameplay of run around the same rock 10 times is really stagnant, not uncounterable just stagnant. I hate it when survivors try and milk a really strong loop for as long as possible, its tedious, but hey what else can they do?
I don't lament anyone for looping well but when every chase b-lines for the same spot on the map its just dull. I find it immersion breaking when people try and get you to chase them because of a nearby strong loop they know how to exploit well.
Sure its just anecdotal game experience but its how I feel about the game and its curbing the enthusiasm to play.

yeah but custom mode requires yourself and at least a couple of buddies (for a full experience) who want to fartarse around for a while. If you are solo then you're boned.

They said they planned on adding husks to the game for when survivors disconnect and then decided that would be too much work. That was the closest we got.
Mobile version had bots, dunno if it still has em or not.
AS for custom games, we asked for the option to start custom lobbies without another person to test things; and they basically said they don't want needless server usage or w/e so that's probably not happening =/
Ok yeah custom game mode would be the best spot for the bots to live, rather than any kind of ranked solo play. I'd be happy with that at least to give killers I'm really bad at or haven't really touched good practice run with their powers.
Bummer to hear it the idea was shot down due to concerns over server load.
-
Hey if you like em great but I just don't know why they changed them. They looked fine and there are so many other things that need work and yet again we get something like this unnecessary change.
It new auras all over again.
-
Yeah man survivors are way to obnoxious to play with after about 7-8pm where I am, I'll hit up a couple of survivor games before queues get crap then round out a few killer games and then go do something else.
I don't need a team of giant sore loser/bad winner cry babies yelling vitriolic crap at me because they lack the emotional maturity to play the game and they come by the boatload late at night.
-
I run it for the BP's the tracking is a bonus.
-
I think that's to narrow of a view to take.
Basically the killer experience is often negative, because the mechanic of the game is to essentially waste the killers time. Its an exercise in denial, which is basically a recipe for frustration for many players.
So you can have a consistent game experience as survivor where even if you have potato team mates you can achieve a lot in your role as solo, or play with your friends, or you can have highly variable games as killer that range from fun to highly abusive.
You rarely see posts that say I'm to scared to play survivor but you get that a lot for killer, now why is that?
Because in an asymmetric game where you are trying to survive against a killer, what you are trying to survive against should be a substantial threat, but in gameplay terms its really not. Part of the problem being that items that make the killer a substantial threat are often maligned due to how they can be abused, original moris, iri head etc etc.
The more balanced the game becomes the more watered down it becomes. The killer play experience suffers as a result. A less experienced survivor can often crutch out on their team but killers don't have that option.
Add to that seriously screwed up match making due to population asymmetry and you have a rather dismal killer play experience especially for new players.
So older players get bored and leave, new players get turned off killer by the aforementioned frustrations. So now you have asymmetric recruitment and retention. Hence survivor queues will continue to increase during peak game times.
There will always be times of day when one queue is faster than the other and that will swing but look at your queue times during peak play and you'll probably find long survivor queues and instant killer queues with really messed up match making simply to push the games through.
