No tunneling doesnt equalize with fastening your objective. It just means youre going to take out one survivor who cant do his objective. Gen rushing is just doing their objectives, while it doesnt hinders the killer on doing his objective, cause naturally Killer is in a chase while gens are getting done. the chase is the prerequisite for downing, which is the prerequisite for hooking, which is the prerequisite for killing. So killers can do their obctives, so gen rush isnt real, while survivors cant do their objective, so tunneling is real. No discussion worth here.

I can't take you seriously if you think "fastening" is a word.

Appyling pressure can take many different forms, injuring, being near objectives that have multiple survivors, slugging. You don’t need to be a killer with good mobility to apply pressure. The only killer I find very lacking is Bubba, everyone else can play the game, you just have to know what you’re doing, and not have awful rng.

Here’s the big takeaway, old ruin did nothing to stop good/experienced players. It was really just a win harder perk, that only assisted vs bad players or on really good totem spawns and even then good players will power through it. It was a bandaid to a larger problem, and it’s overuse lend to the change.

The rhetoric that x change will only lead to y killer being played is overused as well. The game isn’t going to die from one change, all killers aren’t leaving because of one change. The forums are just filled with drama queens who want their easy mode perks left alone, and cry when they’re taken away. Both survivors and killers do this, killers just like to whine it’s too hard to win, when in reality, it’s not.

Do you not play survivor? The queue times have dramatically increased and I almost exclusively face rank 8 and below, rarely seeing any killer in red ranks. I sure as hell have quit, I don't enjoy having to be that stressed just to get one or two kills if I'm lucky.

Whether or not the survivor is injured means nothing to optimal survivors. They will work through the injure and depending on their perks they may go faster. So having everyone injured means nothing if you can't get to them, hence why only high mobility killers can win against slightly optimal teams. Fully optimal teams are impossible now, as gens will go even faster with the constant great skillckecks.

Ok then please explain. I can already assure you you're wrong.

    What is tunneling?

Creating an unfun and unfair game for a survivor because you choose to target only them, thus costing them bloodpoints, fun, and probably a black pip or maybe a depip, all because of how quickly they were taken out of the game.

    What is genrushing?

Creating and unfun and unfair game for a killer because you choose to target only gens, thus costing them bloodpoints, fun, and almost certainly a depip, all because of how quickly they were taken out of the game

Tunneling is toxic because you know what you're doing

Genrushing is toxic because you know what you're doing

Tunneling and genrushing are the same thing for both sides. If one "doesn't exist" then neither does the other.

    Recognize the double standard.

I'm more or less of the same opinion, barring 4 toolboxes (often with BNPs). Same goes for tunneling as well. There's a difference between the killer choosing to go for the same guy and getting unhooked and doing a gen, then expecting them not to go for you. They both get thrown around a lot and it really starts to make them lose all meaning.

Love to see that even developers don't understand their own game.

Why is tunneling annoying? Because you are forcing one person out of the game quickly, this costing them points and a derank, as well as making the game unfun.

Why is genrushing annoying? Because you are forcing one person out of the game quickly, this costing them points and a derank, as well as making the game unfun.

They are exactly the same except that there's far more counters to tunneling than gen rushing.

Ehhhh DS is 1 time use and requires someone to save you. From solo experience that's a fairly sizeable requirement. Thank you for a good comment.

Not that Mr. BannedMan will see this until late, even one DS can lose the game for a killer, and if you don't get saved all game then you got seriously, seriously unlucky.

  • @Carlosylu said:

I might have an unpopular opinion but there's no such thing as "gen rushing" it's called "bad gen pressure byt he killer" or "the killer decided not to hurt everyone he could if they were all on the same gen forcing them to loose time healing".

And about the tunneling, it's just dumb, unless he dared to teabag you... Tunneling is counterable btw

I'm both killer and survivor red ranks, xbox

How are killers like Bubba or Clown supposed to apply pressure

  • Considering I just posted a discussion on how they're the exact same and you posted one saying they're completely different, I'm guessing you don't like me very much.

I don't feel like trying to cut through all this chatter to talk to you.

A perk that punishes gen rushing is NOED, not Ruin. Ruin just barely slowed it down (talking about high ranks).

Anyway it's useless talking about secondary objectives like totems because I've seen a lot of matches where the killer complained about being "gen rushed" and still there wasn't a single totem standing or a chest closed at the end of the match.

If there's no totems or chests left then the survivors gave the killer enough time to do their job and it is then their fault. If they complain at that point, they're using the term wrong and shouldn't be complaining.

Just like a survivor shouldn't complain about being tunneled if they went for a save or started doing a gen immediately after being unhooked. You are given the opportunity to run. If you choose not to, you accept the consequences.

  • @xEa said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1004416#Comment_1004416

Cleansing hex totems, sabo hooks and searching chests are just synonyms for "doing nothing". Alturism makes sense of course, but only if that is available.

Its a very effective strategy to hook a survivor and go for anybody who is seen on BBQ or any other tracking perk, so the killer has always the option to play that way.

The point is, no matter if he is tunneling or camping or using a different strategy like the one i mentioned, he is using a strategy to win (and that is fine!). But if the survivors are doing anything else then gens, they are just doing nothing, thats it. This is no strategy, this is just beeing (semi) afk.

So in my opinion it is legit when a survivor thinks the killer was tunneling, since thats the way the killer has chosen to play. But it makes not really any sense when the killer is blaming the survivors to genrush, because there is no other way they can play.

Then tunneling has no toxic nature behind it, as they are also just "doing their objective."

    @newavitar

How do you know it is far more? Do you have actual data or something? Or is that something you yourself came up with?

There are many double standards here. Everyone knows that.

There's no evidence needed. It's common knowledge. If you want some evidence I'll start looking for complaints about tunneling versus complaints about gen rushing.

  • @White_Owl said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1003850#Comment_1003850

This comparison makes no sense. In the case of DS people would tunnel because there would be no repercussion, but in the case of Ruin the perk doesn't punish a certain playstyle, it just slows down the main objective of the opposing team without much input, kinda like old MoM and DS.

No. Gen rushing was curbed before the ruin nerf because it either gave a secondary objective or allowed for occasional setbacks. Without it there's no repercussions for rushing generators and it's actually encouraged since you can't get off without being punished. New ruin encourages gen rushing just as old dying light encouraged tunneling

    @SleepyWillo

Yep, and as a Plague main, that is a disgusting build (btw).

I agree though, that's exactly my point. I think the real double standard exists when you can even admit that you can have bad matches, you'd rather blame it on a situational reason.

No, the double standard exists when people pretend that people on your own side refuse to acknowledge that you do the exact. Same. Thing.

Survivors complain about "tunneling" when they weren't actually tunneled far more often than killers complain about "gen rushing" when they weren't actually rushed.

    Recognize the double standard.

  • @SleepyWillo said:

I had a game against a Plague where she had thana, ruin (wasn't cleansed until all gens were done), Dying Light and NOED. They complained we gen rushed. NOED never proc'd because all totems were cleansed (besides guarded ruin). We did everything available and it wasn't a fast match. Some people just fling catchy phrases to justify wins/loss

There are going to be people who use the term incorrectly. You see it when survivors claim "tunneling" even though you hooked someone between. It's the same thing.

  • @xEa said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/121020/recognize-the-double-standard-its-getting-annoying

Well, i agree with what you say and i am also fine with "genrush" and "getting tunneled" but there is one flaw with your statement: The killer has the joice how he wants to play while survivors are pretty much bounded to their objective. Sure, killing survivors is the objective for the killer, but there are many ways to reach the goal while survivors just can leftclick a generator.

While the options for other objectives are limited, they do exist. Cleanse totems, search chests, get some altruism points, sabo hooks... And if at that point they still haven't killed anyone just do the gens. You've given them the same time they gave you by not tunneling.

At the same time, if they start tunneling just rush gens and leave. They've given up their rights to not be gen rushed by tunneling

  • Is the second rift open yet? Survivor is gonna be so easy that I'll grind out those challenges so damn quick it'll be hilarious.

Then I'll hate my life when I try to do the killer challenges.

  • @thrawn3054 said:

The difference between tunneling and doing gens is the killer has three other targets to pick from. If not being chased what else do you want the survivor to do? The only other thing that can be done is totems and chests. And there's only so many of those. I'd also argue it's only gen rushing if there's at least two toolboxes.

The amount of toolboxes, the perks they run, none of that matters. What matters is how they play. The survivor, though they don't have many, still have other objectives to choose from. Cleanse some totems, search a chest, find the injured player and heal them, sabotage some hooks in the area, go for unhooks, move to a different generator to break up the 3 gen group. If you've done all the totems and chests and nobody is dead yet then by all means finish the gens and get out. You've given this guy as much of a chance as he's given you by not tunneling.

If he starts tunneling then for the sake of the guy being tunneled, rush the gens as fast as you can. He gave up that right to not be genrushed when he started tunneling. Just like survivors give up their right to not be tunneled when they start genrushing.

  • @newavitar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1004085#Comment_1004085

Then you should not complain when you get genrushed. Tunneling is to survivors and genrush is to killers. You are removing a player out of the game quickly in order to complete your objective efficiently. When you get genrushed, they're doing the same thing to you. Both are unfun to play against but sometimes are necessary and are always a valid strategy.

Just don't complain when you get genrushed if you tunnel regularly. If you don't tunnel regularly then by all means complain about genrush.

I should add on to that point @JordanMalicious that if you are being genrushed you have the right to tunnel a survivor. Once again, they're one and the same. If you play fair and they start genrushing you, start tunneling. It's the only way you'll have a chance of winning and even then you'll probably still lose but that's how killer works.

  • @JordanMalicious said:

I will tunnel if I see survivors being altruistic to the point of self sabotage. Just makes the game easier for me. Idgaf if they complain about it being less fun. If someone is going to rush an unhook, I'm going to punish their team for it.

Then you should not complain when you get genrushed. Tunneling is to survivors and genrush is to killers. What exactly is the "No" about? You pretty much say the same as me. The point I disagreed was just the part about depip and no points. But you don't explain why you get less points by tunneling. Tunneling actually grants you points the moment you do it. You are in a chase, you hit / down and hook someone. Points loss happens when you refuse to play the game, and that happens when camping the hooked survivor. And that are 2 different things.

Btw where did you find the common definition of tunneling?

I'm talking about a points loss for the person having the action done to them. Genrushed killers get no points and tunnelled survivors get no points.

  • @Waffleyumboy said:

How is tunneling the best way to kill all the survivors? Usually it results in the other 3 "rushing gens" and getting out.

That's camping. Tunneling is much quicker and once their DS is out of the way, or they don't have one in the first place, you can move on to another survivor quickly. However with current gen speeds even tunneling won't be enough to kill everyone or even 2 people before gens are done

  • @Zamblot said:

Some people like you seem to think it's the exact same thing but be honest here. As a survivor the main thing you do is fix gens, it's just you naturally doing your objectives. With killer you can go to other survivors but it doesn't really work saying a survivor is being toxic for 'genrushing' when unless they are being chased there is basically nothing else they can do other than search chests and destroy totems I suppose? The issue there comes with the games balance, not the survivors being toxic unlike tunneling...

It's the exact same thing. If you read the post I talked about how in both you are taking them out of the game quickly, ruining their fun, taking points from them and deranking them. They are exactly the same except that you have more ways to stop tunneling than you do to stop gen rushing

  • @arslaN said:

I don't think they are comparable at all.

Genrushing happens because survivors have nothing else to do, tunneling happens when the killer decides to chase the same person instead of others. It's the killer's decision to do that.

Survivors have other options, though not many. The developers need to add a secondary objective in order to counter this. But as it stands, survivors can cleanse totems and search chests, distract the killer, or go for altruistic points

  • @LetsPlayTogether said:

Gen rush doesnt exist. Its a killer made illusion to justify their cheap gameplay.

If gen rushing doesn't exist then neither does tunneling. They're the same inputs with the same outputs.

When you tunnel a survivor, you are making the game unfun for them in order to more quickly complete your objective; killing the survivors. This results in less points, a quick unfun game, and a potential derank.

When you gen rush a killer you are making the game unfun for them in order to more quickly complete your objective; fixing the generators. This results in less points, a quick unfun game, and a potential derank.

  • @Kbot22 said:

@newavitar it isn't the survivors fault that the game is helariously unbalanced at high rank play, Gen times need to be seriously looked at I've had game WITH old ruin that the gens were done in >5 min and that just shouldnt be possible. Also what do you expect the survivors to do follow you around? There aren't that many things to do as survivor if you aren't doing gens. Ig you could search chests or do totems but it really isn't worth it just for a trash item or a measly 1000 points in a category you will fill anyway unless you an immersed claudette.

I don't blame the survivors, no. I blame the developers for not paying attention to half of their playerbase and completely ignoring high tier players needs

Survivors can just go easy on gens in favour of points, like searching chests, cleansing totems, maybe distracting the killer for your team. But you also don't need to, just as killers don't need to not tunnel.

  • @White_Owl said:

Just as many survivor cry about tunneling/camping when there was none, the same happens with gen rushing. I see a lot of killers complain about it even if there wasn't. I think a lot of people mistake the feeling (about being tunneled or rushed) for what actually happens.

In other words, it's true that gen rushing exists but it's rare, and people use that term indiscriminately.

The requirements to gen rush is getting less and less because killers are quickly losing their counters to gen rushing. Imagine if DStrike was "reworked" the same way as ruin. Some killers would start tunneling every game right? Some survivors have started gen rushing every game. With no D Strike to stop tunnelers in this scenario, how are killers supposed to stop gen rushing without ruin? And I mean any killer including clown or Bubba. Not just hillbilly or nurse

  • @HarryToeknuckles said:

Or just avoid gens all together. Probably best to find the closest hook and wait there for the killer.

Best avoid the survivors all together and wait by the door to open it for them.

    Recognize the double standard.

  • @yobuddd said:

We could go so far as to say that even touching a generator with any progress on it is “tunneling a gen”. Better to walk around a find a new one with zero progress.

We could go as far as to say that even hitting a survivor that's injured and just been hooked is "tunneling a survivor". Better walk away from them to find a survivor who hasn't been touched.

    Recognize the double standard.

  • @Deadeye said:

Ehhhhmmm disagree. On one point. Tunneling is not a depip and low points, that's camping. Tunneling is, as you said, getting someone out of the game quickly. That's not done by waiting at the hook for the unhook and insta down or securing the "death within 2 minutes". Tunneling is ignoring free hits / body blocks to get to the injured one down and out of the game.

Tunneling is not when you simply down someone and hook him the second time. Many people call it tunneling if you don't let someone go just because he was already hooked within the last 2 minutes, or when you have not already hooked everybody at least once. Even if that person survives until the end, you get called tunneler for that (sometimes).

But regarding the double standard, I totally agree.

Gen rushing is some difficult term. Tunneling, regarding your "objective" to kill people, tunneling can be more precisely defined because you are still progressing towards your goal when chasing the person that did the unhook. When you always go for the person that got hooked more often, it's pretty easy to call it tunneling. Calling it gen rush because someone is working on a gen injured is a bit more difficult to agree. Normally the speed at which gens pop, when at a too high rate, you start calling it gen rush. But when exactly? A gen every 60 seconds? Every 65?

I like to talk about gen rushing when the whole team or at least 3 survivors build up for that, like with Better Together + Prove Thyself, like two or three people bringing BNP and Commodius or Engineer toolboxes etc. Otherwise it quickly seems like whining when talking about gen rushing.

No. Using the common definition of tunneling, i.e downing a survivor too quickly after they've been unhooked, or getting into a chase with them immediately after, it falls under the exact same definition and results as gen rushing.

Why should I go after the healthy, still 3 hook survivor when an injured, 2 or possibly 1 hook survivor is right there? And why care about people blocking or body blocking when it means they're ignoring their objective to try and save the other survivor?

Because it's a nice thing to do to make sure everyone has fun.

Why should I slow down on gens when my objective is to get them done?

Because it's the nice thing to do to make sure everyone has fun.

  • @TruEternity said:

Gen rushing and tunneling are both over used terms in the community, and somewhat of a joke. In most cases, people who cry “gen rushing!” are bad, didn’t face toolboxes with add ons and just failed to apply pressure, then blame the game for their inability to do well.

"Just apply pressure" is an overused and often incorrect suggestion to make. Some killers are literally unable to apply the pressure they need to effectively stop gens without tunneling or camping. This is why Ruin was necessary, because it slowed the gens so that their pressure was possible. New ruin is literally useless to over 50% of the killers in the list because they do not have the mobility to effectively push survivors off the gens so that Ruin can be used. So telling people to "just apply pressure"? They can't. Literally, over 50% of then just can't. And then everyone will complain that they only see hillbilly and the occasional Nurse and Spirit. Once hillbilly gets nerfed prepare to see no killers since it'll be impossible to win coordinated, efficient teams.

  • @TWiXT said:

Again, I don't think that's really the case when it comes to killer feedback or balance. My primary reason for the Ruin nerf is best described by @Peanits :

"We are not. We have mentioned multiple times that if something needs to change about gen times, we're happy to take a look into it. Unfortunately we cannot do that when 80% of red ranked killers are using a perk that covers it up- it makes it impossible to tell what actually needs to be done. We'll keep an eye on it."

This supports my theory that the reason that the Devs have been ignoring killers feedback in the Latest patch has been because they don't have the hard data to support their claims regarding Gen speeds. As for the recent Killer nerfs, Nurse was OP with broken add-ons, and i feel no one can debate that. The addition of a cooldown on her blinks may have been a bit rash, but in all honesty, i have yet to see a post from a Nurse main who say that it completely breaks her. As for Spirit's nerfs... TBH, I haven't seen ANYTHING calling them unfair or destroying her tier level, so, either no one is playing her anymore, or the "nerfs" haven't changed much for her.

Still, the Devs ignoring complaints about Sound issues really irks me since this happens "Every Time" they update the engine. The Demogorgon update had its sound issues corrected very fast, which made me believe that the devs knew it had to be done, and had learned from past mistakes, but with this mid chapter update coming out next week... without even a mention of corrections to the sound issues... That breaks my heart, and ruins my confidence in the idea that they have learned from their past mistakes!

It's not just killers that are getting screwed by it, survivors do to, but when killers get "Loading Screens" saying stuff like "If you lose sight of a survivor, Listen! Survivors make many sounds that can help you locate them" but the game doesn't actually provide any of these alleged "sounds" within an audible range... there's something wrong with the sound design.

Y'know, alot of New Players try to play killer too, and if the sound design is this bad for them, why would they even bother trying?

The nurse changes were extremely inappropriate and an extreme betray of what little trust we had. They claimed over and over again, straight up lying through their teeth, that she would only receive an add-ons rework. This was a complete and utter lie and has turned her off for so many players that I literally have not seen a single nurse since the patch. Granted, I'm on PS4 and didn't expect to see them anyway, but I still saw some. Now? Nothing. Period.

The developers have broken their trust with 50% of their community and have employed disgusting practices that have ruined my outlook on them whether or not they have "good intentions". I'd take EA over these biased idiots.

  • @NoShinyPony said:

    It's true.

I'm waiting for the "you don't have to tunnel, just get better"-comments, though. And "by tunneling you ruin the survivors' experience, doing gens doesn't hurt anybody". And "just apply pressure".

Not that you are arguing them, hopefully an early response will deter comments like these.

"You don't have to tunnel, just git gud"

This is not about skill level. This is about literally not having enough time to walk and chase survivors before all generators are done when facing optimal teams.

"Tunneling ruins the experience of the survivors"

So does gen rushing for the killer, for the exact same reason. Play both sides to understand why.

    "Just apply pressure"

Thats simply not an option for some killers, period. Clown, Huntress, Demo (to an extent), Myers, Hag (in the early game), Doctor, Bubba, Pig (in the early and late game), and plague. You are just too slow to actively patrol generators, hence why Ruin was a necessity. Without the ability to push survivors off generators, new ruin is literally useless, and they're stuck with nothing to slow down generators early, when they need it the most. Prepare to only see Billy, Nurse, Spirit, and Freddy. Only people that can apply any kind of pressure to the generators at all.

Again, not that you made the arguments. I'm just voicing the opinions early.

    Hey dude don't ya know?

    Face camping=legit strategy

Doing gens in the first 10 mins of a game? TOXIC

Facecamping is ensuring that you get the kill, often because the survivors flew through the gens and gave you know actual time to get it "fairly".

Let me ask you this. Tunneling is "toxic" right? Because it ruins the fun for that survivor by taking them out of the game extremely quickly, robbing them of points, and possibly depipping them?

Isn't genrushing the same thing? You're ruining the fun for the killer by taking them out of the game extremely quickly, robbing them of points, and almost certainly depipping them.

But genrushing is efficient right? Not toxic?

Isn't tunneling efficient then? Not toxic?

But yes killer camping happens a ton.

I need to steal that line. "You're probably provoking". It's such BS lmao. "Oh you got teabagged and flashlight clicks all game? You probably provoked them." 😂😂 you killer mains are like memes come to life

Why the polarization. Why do you have to act like "killer main" is some shameful insult you need to throw around whenever you disagree with someone, yet when someone uses "survivor main" you pretend like they're being childish and shame them more, despite doing the exact same thing. Face camping is a legit strat like tea bagging and flashlight clicking is a legit strat.

Of course anything a killer does is a legit strat according to killer mains.

    Meanwhile... Toolboxes? TOXIC

Camping is ensuring that you get one kill. Teabagging and flashlight clicking is the same as throwing a middle finger and disrespecting the opponent. There's no strategy, there's no plan. They're being a dick and they know it and enjoy it. They like to pretend they're a big deal and feel powerful outside their pathetic real lives

It's just survivors doing their objective, maybe bring some other gen slow perks like, pop, dying light, thanat, surveillance, sloppy, etc.

Gen rushing doesn't exist? Then neither does tunneling. And please, tell me that they're different because I can assure you they are exactly the same thing.

  • Because the developers do not care about killers. Plain and simple. They've shown extreme bias in the past and didn't even try to hide it in this most recent patch. They take years to get to killer issues and fix survivor issues in weeks. They balance towards survivor fun, completely ignoring how killers feel in favour of treating them like nothing more than NPCs, and care more about coddling and caring for new survivors, with 0 regard for high tier gameplay, especially for killers.

  • Early game is often defined as (before ruin nerf) 0-2 gens done. Mid game was defined as 2-3 and late game was defined as 3-5. End game was then when all gens were done.

After ruin nerf, it will probably be early game as the 60 or so seconds before 3 gens pop, then mid game is 3-5, and end game being after the gens pop. There really isn't a late game post ruin nerf because the gens just go way too quickly.

i dont even know ######### happened????? i legit posted this to another post and it ended up here????????????

That's the most unnerving thing ever, even more so than the killers ᕙ[・۝・]ᕗ

This is gonna sound special, but i'd probably say Doctor.

Because i'm pretty sure, in real life, he'd make lots more hallucinations than just himself and some pieces of wood.

Though seeing him just pop up and staring me down would already be plenty scary.

If he did more hallucinations he'd be terrifying cause of the paranoia

Honestly, the hag. She will eat my organs one by one,my flesh a piece at the time. Gross

I'd hate to be eaten, especially alive

    Demogorgon.

    He's not human.

The inhuman aspect is terrifying to me

Myers, Freddy, Doctor, and the Oni

He is going to actually steal my tongue!

His Mori would be terrible...my tongue (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ

I think, Doc, Hag and Clown the most. Being driven insane and electrocuted is horrible beyond measure. Being eaten alive is a thought I really don't want to think and what the clown does with women.... well... I would rather be staked and mori'd by Myers. But having a RBT on your head is quite unsettling too.

I would hate the Mori of hag. Maybe that'll be the next one I do...worst Mori for real life

The Legion in general would be scary cause they're so close to realistic. Teenagers who find it fun to torture you

  • @kurgan8282 said:

Demogorgon because no humans could stand a chance against such a beast.

But also Freddy, the idea of a dream killer imo was simply a work of genius, how can you defend yourself in dreams?

Demo would be terrifying cause he's animalistic. Not even a chance of an inkling of mercy

  • @terumisan said:

    Oni

A massive wall of muscle roaring in the distance then you hear it getting closer with his heavy footsteps

Hearing him coming would be the scariest part. Like, you can't outrun him, you can't fight him, only thing you can do is hide and pray

  • @DonZwiebel said:

The Plague, definitely. As for I hate vomiting.

The vomiting would hurt so bad after a while, especially since it's just be dry heaving after the second time
