  • No mither is the epitome of a meta perk.....that wasn't.

Imagine how powerful no mither would be if you:

    • Started uninjured , (and only after you got injured for the first time would its "broken" status effect come into play for the rest of the match)
    • The killer had no notification about your No Mither/broken right from the start of the match/
    • Still got the 50% less noise bonus.+ unbreakable effect

Instead by having the perk cause you to start injured AND providing the broken status notification to the killer in the UI, the perk automatically got turned into one of, if not the absolute worst perk in the game.

  • CHAPTER IX: Shattered Bloodline

Release Date: 18 September 2018 (Tuesday)

    This DLC features:

  • its even worse, I actuallky depiped while simply exiting the lobby after the timer started (4+1 players )

  • After 2k solo-survivor hours , i have encountred only one un-counterable one-hit killer move : the Hag + Make Your Choice.

The main reason why it really has no counter (if there is one, I'd sure like to know) is because you don't find out about MYC until you trigger it, and - adding insult to injury - unless everyone is paying close attention to the UI , the next rescuer tends to just continue the cycle. To top everything off, MYC begins resetting when the unhook happens and not when the exposed status ends. In other words, MYC will always be ready again before the next rescue because rushing Hag's hooks (even with BT) is simply not a realistic option.

If you also add Hag's add-ons - even just the green one - to the mix, then the match typically just becomes " weeeeee....al 4 piggies went to market."

  • There are numerous other issues with The Game....

    1. There is a significant portion of the map without a single locker, (something I learnt about after going against the Huntress)
    2. The upstairs offers very, very little LOS protection against killers whose powers depend on it.
    3. Spine chill's cone appears to be broken, covering both floors (the vertical aspect of the cone does not spread out from center correctly).
      1. in other words, it register as killers looking in "my direction" in spite of simply being directly engaged in a chase right above me (+6%).
    4. Those tall shelf-like things don't seem to have proper killer hit collision (or perhaps its all because of hitbox issues)

    Is SO big... omg

can't believe it's just so round..... it's like, out there.

Jane should not be allowed to use Spring Burst, and should receive a -0.5m/s penalty when vaulting windows/pallets.....CHANGE MY MIND.

  • There isn't a single baby survivor who knows how to properly use DH. Every single one of these baby survivors would be better served equipping another exhaustion perk that activates automatically.

  • With the new UI I can't even tell when someone is getting actively chased, so OP's point is a bottom drawer type issue for me.

  • Actually, the devs turned it "up to 11" yesterday for me...I played 5 separate games, all games ended with "disconnected from server" dialog, followed by another "error something something" dialog on kickback to home menu (which needs net connection so I guess I did have it after all).....oh and obviously a -2pip penalty for each match, and a (constant) 5 min penalty afterwards.

I used the last 2 of those matches for testing fully expecting the same outcome. Restarted both DBD and Steam after the 3rd match dc. I also started a continuous ping probe running in the background on 8.8.8.8 to make sure my connection was actually stable....and it was. After the 4th, I again exited DBD,ran a file state verification through steam, then closed both and rebooted (hoping that this was caused by some windows update issue that needed to finish initializing. Unfortunatelly, the 5th match ended in dc as well.

I can't for the life of me figure out how a small-scale update could ever lead to such unbelievably disasterous results for what seems like the majority of the player-base. The devs (likely multiple teams given the range of changes) who worked on 4.5.0 must have worked off of task lists and check lists, as well as ran fundamental unit tests to make sure the core logic is still functional.

My post-update experience is analogous to tetris getting a UI update, which ends up making the cleared lines to eventually start descending from the top causing automatic game over.....yet apparently not a single person from QA seeing how this might be an issue.

I mean it's broken in Custom games, same as Online, but one more bug is, when you lose your rank progress at Custom game it'll be used to Online games.

And for me, it was easier to keep my R1 Online, I can't depip somehow.

Got ya! I also wonder if this has any effect on killers and their match points.

Aside from putting in 2000 hours into DBD in 2020, I am not much of a gamer. In fact, there are only 3 different tiles I have played in the last 3-4 months. Unfortunately, and in the last 24 hours, I have encountered some type of catastrophic issue with each one of them:

    1. World War Z does not seem to be able to properly display textures in online matches for me, as well as final maps of all episodes not starting me,
    2. Stadia seemingly screwed me out of Hitman 2, which happened to be one of the free pro games in January I was 100% sure I already claimed, but which has seemingly disappeared from my library; a fact I only found out about after finishing Hitman 1 earlier yesterday, and getting presented with the Buy Now for $59.99 dialog when trying to move on to Hitman 2 campaign.
    3. And now the multiple bugs related to the 4.5.0 update in DBD

    All that remains is minesweeper.....

  • While there is a lot of silliness in this thread, it is impossible to argue with the fact that DBD had become fundamentally broken for a lot of players after the compulsory update to 4.5.0.

Personally, I don't mind the new UI, it took 2-3 matches to get used to. I don't mind the animation changes, even though the injured survivors do look silly,. While I like most of the map changes, the color pallete and the saturation on the Game appears incredibly high in comparison to how it used to look.

I do mind the critical emblem bug that appears to be causing a large-scale rank reset for a lot of players active the last 24 hours.

Additionally, it is inconceivable to me how any work on the fix for the already present significant hitbox issue, instead led to larger hitboxes as well as killers now fairly consistently being teleported to fronts of pallets after squeezing in an over-pallet hit and getting stunned (The timing of pallet stuns themselves is also buggy, with over-pallet hits having become far more common the last 3 or so months, but never before have I seen killers getting a free front of the pallet teleport after a hit-stun as well)

Custom games are like free derank lobby, I was R1, testing smth with friends and now I'm R3 2pips Online.

This is not in any way related to custom games. I am a solo-survivor, who in over 2000 hours has never played a single custom game, and currently my rank has been in free-fall because of this.

It seemingly doesn't matter what I do as far as the currently broken Unbroken emblem: if I happen to die inside of the trial it blanks out regardless of how long I lasted for. Today, I also encountered two others bugs: the wrong Unbroken even when I escaped, as well as receiving the gold emblem when I in fact died on a hook. However, in the end it did not matter one bit what color emblem I received because even though I got past black pip I still depiped.

  • To be honest I really like OPs idea. You tunnel you get hit with a hook timer penalty

  • Are you familiar with the saying "If it looks stupid, but it works then it is not stupid." Same goes for add-ons and what you may consider trash perks in DBD.

  • You see Franklin's when Franklin's gets used (on you directly, I believe). Same goes for add-ons. This knowledge isn't free.

You could make a case that killers should be notified about survivors' perks but this would have to be a perk in itself because nothing in DBD should be free.

Might explain why i got hit when i dropped the pallet and he teleported to my side when I dropped it.

I vaulted immediately and got downed.

Even if he had enduring he wouldn't have been able to hit me.

Yes, thats exactly the scenario I was talking about. This happened with different killers so I highly doubt this was a client-side issue, my ping is pretty fantastic these days, mid 40s on average.

As far as HV I read on this forum it was reenabled on the 9th which would correspond to seeing this frequently in the last 48 hours.

  • No I agree with the OP. The last 48 hours, there is something unquestionably and seriously wrong with hits getting through on vaults and dropped pallets. I have had instances of dropped pallets where the killer gets pushed back, flashes in fron of the pallet for the hit animation, yet teleports to behind the pallet afterwards.

  • no, all killers would just be dropped into a giant pool of killers, and then the entity could just pull one out...like a crane machine but taking time in this killer lobby into consideration somehow.

The problem is that the game actually is survivor sided when you look at tournaments and top level play. If it wasn't, then nurse wouldn't be the only viable killer. The math itself doesn't add up. Let's look at what a perfectly efficient team does.

    Facts:

    • Gens take 80 seconds each.
    • Survivors move at 4.0 m/s
    • Killers (most) move at 4.6 m/s
    • Killers (most) have a 32 meter terror radius.
    • Killer lunge range is 6 meters (generally you wait until 4-5 meters for dead hard, and to not get spun etc.)
    • A survivor moves at 6.0 m/s for 3 seconds after getting hit.

    The scenario:

    • Match starts, every survivor splits up onto different gens.
    • Killer runs to opposite side of the map (where survivors likely spawn)
    • Crossing the maps takes 15-20 seconds depending on the map and killer.
    • Assuming you instantly find a survivor in that time (which can be rare) this takes about 15 seconds.
    • Lets pretend for a minute, the survivor doesn't use windows, or pallets, or anything, and they just hold w, as soon as they see the killer.
    • As soon as the killer terror radius at 32 meters, survivor looks around for the killer. Human reaction time can be around .25 seconds, but let's say you have to look around to find which direction the killer is coming from and it takes 3 seconds. The killer is now 32 - (4.6 x 3), or 18.2 meters away.
    • You now know where the killer is coming from, and hold w in the opposite direction.
    • Killer needs to get within 4 meters of you to lunge. The killer gains .6 meters per second. Getting within 4.5 meters takes 22.8 seconds (i'll even round down for you)
    • It is now 15 + 22 = 37 seconds for the first hit (remember no pallets, or windows, or anything, just holding w).
    • Killer is able to gain 1 meter while cleaning their weapon for 3 seconds. The survivor uses their speed boost to move 18 meters, which means the killer is 17 meters away.
    • It takes the killer another 20.8 seconds to get within 4.5 meters to lunge. Again, i'll even round down for you.
    • This is now a down in 15 + 22 + 20 = 57 seconds.
    • It takes 3 seconds to pick up the survivor, and another 10-15 seconds to walk to a hook, and it takes 1.5 seconds to hook the survivor. This time is 3 + 10 + 1.5 = 14.5 seconds (again i'll even round down and say 14 seconds)
    • The first hook now took 15 + 22 + 20 + 14 = 71 seconds.
    • Gen times are 80 seconds.
    • During this time the other 3 survivors work on a generator, you now lose 3 generators
    • Rinse and repeat, but now you have 1 survivor on a gen and another rescuing and healing, so it is a bit slower, but you still lost 3 gens.

Keep in mind. This ignores pallets. It ignores perks. It ignores windows. It ignores looping. This is literally just holding w for as long as possible. If a team plays efficiently, and hits the gens hard like they should, a killer can never win. The only exception to this, is killers who can shorten that chase window, like nurse, spirit, huntress (arguable), deathslinger, etc. Because you can't hold w against them. Now when you factor in pallets, windows, looping, etc. This basically means nurse and spirit are really the only viable killers at top level play.

Now, you might say "well you should get the first hit, then go find another survivor on a gen". And you are right, this is generally optimal. But now imagine that scenario i mentioned, where you do that. It took you 15 + 22 seconds, to find the first survivor and hit them once. It takes a survivor 16 seconds to heal. Now all they do is heal, and start hitting a gen and the scenario repeats itself. Now you can maybe do this only once or twice depending on your medkit. But by the time your team runs out, you easily could complete multiple generators.

This is the problem with the game. When survivors play perfectly, a killer can't win. A killer has to win by survivors making mistakes. There isn't a way for a killer to truly win a game against an efficient team if they play perfectly.

This is a reasonable breakdown, but is also the absolute worst case scenario. You also chose to ignore or forgot multiple issues like:

    1. Corrupt intervention will prevent the survivors from immediatelly jumping on their own private gen. In fact. it is not uncommon to get your first hook with before the first gen is even close to popping with CI equipped.
    2. Survivors will spend time getting to a gen. If you want to break down the time into descrete seconds you have to take into account that even being within only 16 meters of a gen will take you 4 seconds to get to one.
    3. Only finished gens count. Hook+Pop can turn the tide. The same can be said for hook+ruin+pressure (with some luck).
    4. If you watch Otz or NoTofu streams, you will see that losing 3 gens can simply be the cost of doing business. Ending up with 2 gens and 3 survivors puts the killer at an incredible advantage, and in the situations when there are 3 survivors with 3 gens then it is practically impossible to not get 3K as killer. 2 gen 4 survivor situation , is the situation killers try to avoid

    Any particular builds, or ideas?

I don't have dead hard and have some problems looking behind me for starters.

Looking behind is something that you need to practice. It is similar to how when you first start driving a car and looking around and to the side for longer than a second feels really dangerous but then after a while you can do it with ease. As far as pallet stuns, even after 2k hours I cant always tell if I am going to get a clean stun(good), or a hit+stun(bad). In the end, dropping any pallet early is not the end of the world.

As far as looping pallets, unless it is a very safe pallet, I wouldn't push it too hard in those situations against good killers. Jungle gyms are a better alternative. But often enough it comes down to vaults.

Interesting thought, and if so, it would be cheating rather than simply being an idiot. That would be no different than disconnecting to instantly pop the hatch for your buddy who has told you on Comms he/she is sitting on it.

Well, I actually do think any type of forced DC is a form of cheating, whether done to help your team or screw them over right in the beginning. I always play till the end, even if its only being on hook for 2 minutes against Insidious basement killer, as every little bit helps my team.

  • The simplest solution would be to make the 3 attempts automatic when on the last hook. If you escape you escape, and if you don't it only costs the killer extract 8 seconds

  • If you're a killer and complaining about gen speeds, try playing survivor with only 3 survivors left and 3 or more gens remaining, and then tell me how bad the gen speed really is. It may feel like a rush with 4 survivors left, but with 3 and pressure the repair speed could not be slower.

The current gen speed is so low on the totem pole of things in need of immediate fixing that I would be concerned if devs even took this suggestion seriously at the moment

  • I have never done it, but I always thought it was to prevent BBQ auras that would trigger on their last hook.

  • And here, I always thought Nea was meant to be a lesbian and thus an LGBT character and now I am really confused....

Bubba got a slick LGBT treatment recently, or is that offensive now, I can't even tell anymore....

...I find your sarcasm disappointing. You had so many good places to jab at me with an insult, but you just went with the sarcastic "you're so good". Shame.

This is just silly, people will DC for many reasons.

What makes your thread even sillier and you coming off as nothing but arrogant is that you are a player with level 4 devotion, actually almost level 5, which implies you have significant number of hours in DBD, but you were playing against brown ranked survivors.

The fact that you made this thread says everything about the type of player you are.....

  • Joke's on you, I'm into that.....

In all seriousness, playing solo survivor can be frustrating at times - now more than ever with the self-care virus infecting non-crossplay matches - but this is still one of the best multiplayer games I have ever played.

  • As a former programmer, now in infosec, I know how difficult devs job can be on an average day. Most people don't realize that with every new bit of content released their job only gets harder. It's like juggling and every time a new killer or perk is added is like adding another ball to the already going loop.

I am thankful for the graphics update, which made a lot of maps more playable. I can only imagine how difficult such an overhaul must have been, even if just from a logistical point of view. Also, many of us keep forgetting we are still gettng new content for free, something that was unheard of 10, 15 years ago.

  • Killer mains saying that Spine Chill needs to be nerfed is the most laughable opinion listed.

Less than 10% of survivors use that perk correctly, while the other 90% make the rest of their team suffer by mercilessly hiding and crawling because of a flickering icon. Many of them will take off in the middle of skill checks and fail them, because you know ...flashing icons and stuff.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1779456#Comment_1779456

Then that means what people were saying: no one wants to play killer. The longer the wait time, the more people are queuing up for that role. If killer is instant, that means there aren't enough killers for the number of survivors playing.

That is not quite right. The issue is because there is no consolidation of survivor lobbies. It is not uncommon to see four, five different lobbies with 3 or less survivors, when playing killer with crossplay turned off and at slow US hours.

If I chose to leave lobby as killer, and re-ready, I will often circulate between these choices, until one of the survivor leaves from the present one, (or another match ends, and a new solo survivor gets added to one of them). I have actually been stuck for several minutes as killer inside a lobby because of there not being enough survivors to start the match. Lobby consolidation should be automatic.

  • Bringing Kindred and having to watch the Crossplay Self-care Virus eating survivors' brains for the full 120 seconds.

"....Don't mind me guys, I'll just hang here while 2 of you self-care in the basement or some dark corner of the map....Oh no! One of you got injured again on the way? Don't worry mate, the entity understands. I'll just struggle here for a bit and you make sure to hide and heal. Also, to the second approaching survivor: You gotta be way more careful now! Better yet starting crouching now when you're still 40m away, (and here we're actually partialy serious because if you get injured too I'm dead )"

I've put in ~2000 hours into DBD, all of them in 2020 and in an approximately 10 month timespan, and Kindred has been part of my build for every survivor match I've played pretty much from the absolute beginning. This type of absolutely insane behavior was not a thing before crossplay for PC players partially because the chat for better or worse provided some form of interaction and thus accountability. Also, seeing Kindred in crossplay players' builds is very rare, and its possible this type of behavior does not get noticed but for someone like me, who always brings Kindred and truly believes that it saves more lives than BT with the info it provides, being constantly exposed to this behavior is soul-crushing.

When crossplay was introduced, the allure was suppose to be instantaneous lobby and games for all players, but the result - at least for me - has been very, very different. Survivor times got exponentially longer, from 45 seconds for survivor to now 4-5 minutes with crossplay turned on and 15 min with it off. Killer matches are now quicker, and almost instantaneous when I turn crossplay off, mainly because how many survivors have it off in comparison to killers that do the same.

  • Not only are Ebony Moris incredibly powerful but they are also incredibly common on the bloodweb. How can my Legion (lvl 32) have 4 Ebonys, 2 Greens, and however many yellows??? Thats pure insanity. Low-rank/low-level killers should especially not be given free Moris. The whole point of low-ranked matches is that they last long and award more BPs so new players can level up their perks and make their characters competitive, and more importantly to actually get better at the mechanics of the game; Moris shortchange them on both accounts

  • Haddonfield represents the rise in killers' social and economic status. No more desolate shacks, its all houses and white picket fences from now on.

You guys thought all the houses belonged to regular people? Nope. You are actually breaking into the Doctor's, the Spirti's , the Trapper's and obviously Myers' current homes.

    Beast of Prey:

Your prey is clueless about your movements, and as the chase continues you become more vicious:

    • After 5s in a chase, you gain the Undetectable status.
    • After 10s, you gain Bloodlust*
    • After 15s your Lunge distance is increased by 40%

These bonuses reset each time you would perform any action other than a Vault, are stunned, or lose chase.

*Bloodlust is a Haste of 5% that can stack with any other instance of Bloodlust.

You might be saying: Doesn't this make the TR reduction of Furtive Chase useless? It does. But Furtive Chase's TR reduction is already useless. It's primary function is an Obsession swapper.

    Why did you stop?

    • After 20 seconds you see survivors' auras within a 48m radius
    • After 25 seconds, all generators within 36m begin regressing at 300% speed
    • After 30 seconds, the chased survivor spontaneously combusts*.

*If the survivor is within 8m of another survivor or pallet, those explode as well.

Your idea is just plain silly: BoP required 15 seconds for Undetectable, which was the time requirement for BL1.

Now your perk would somehow allow:

    • Undetectable for free (what chase ever lasts less than 5 second chase against an uninjured survivor?)
    • to disable Borrowed Time protection against hook camps (which requires the killer to be detectable),
    • Give you a 1% percent improvement from the speed of previous BL1, and shave 5s from when it triggers
    • Also give you a 40% lung distance increase (#########?)

Seriously , did you even think this through for the same 15s it used to take BoP to activate before you typed this nonsense. Your 1st benefit (see 2nd bullet) alone would create a killer perk that is insanely insanely strong. A miniscule 5 second chase for arguably the strongest killer status in DBD, (when Insidious requires 4s of standing still for the same effect) and you also want to grant a stackable speed boost, and an increased lunge range? Did you even think what this perk would do to Myers in EW3? The lunge increase would bring Myers' lunge to effectively more than double the survivors speed during the 0.6 seconds his lunge is open.

  • Oh Lord, give up while you're behind man.

You have an absolute right to complain about any product after you buy it. When you buy a car and it keeps malfunctioning and getting recalled by the manufacturer, it is perfectly within your rights to complain about the situation, which is for better or worse what OP is doing. No one in their right mind will ever suggest that you should open up your own manufacturing plant and make a car of your own, which is what you are doing.

  • I have about 1.8k in the game, and the vast, vast majority of them as survivor, probably around 1.7k.

I play strictly on PC, and strictly solo, i.e. solo start, solo queue, and solo match. The only interaction I have with other players I already know (or have added to my steam friends list) is is in those 60 seconds before each match in the lobby chat (which is one of the reasons why I dislike crossplay as it removes even that one last tiny form of human-human interaction). Once I made it to the red-ranks for the first time, I have been able to get back there every time and stay there until reset.

Over 90% of survivor gameplay has nothing to do with the actual killer, less than 5% of the total is direct survivor-killer interaction. You can be the worst runner/looper on the planet but if you do everything right as far as the other 95% of the survivor gameplay goes, you will be a fantastic survivor.

    1. The gameplay starts the moment you pick your perks/items/addons. Your build is highly questionable, and here is why:
      1. WGLF even after rework is simply not a good-enough perk to have as part of your standard build. There is no magical wand that can be waved over it to make it good enough. Having teachables implies you are in no way locked into using it either.
      2. "WGLF for points" on top of bringing the BT+WGLF combo tends to make survivors abysmal rescuers. Don't ever think "well, I have BT so even if I go down myself it will be a safe hook rescue" - on avarega survivors hooked in the basement, end up there for a reason. Don't ever make WGLF+BT combo your reason for ever becoming a basement-dwelling survivor.
      3. BT is a great perk, keep it, but you need to know when to actually go for those risky rescues. Going for a rescue "because you have BT" can be the worst thing imaginable for survivors if 2 survivors go for the same hook, and the one without BT does the actual unhooking. All of a sudden you have 3 survivors doing nothing, one of them injured, and a killer on their way. Even if you heal the 3rd survivor together, you only bought 1 health state at a price of however many seconds the whole ordeal took, charged to all 3 of you.
      4. Bring Spine Chill and/or Kindred. I still to this day bring both. If you keep finding yourself in those lose-lose situations after generators pop its likely you have no idea the killer is approaching. Unless the killer is right beside you (and Spine Chill will let you know when that happens), you should have a good amount of time to make sure you are no longer there when the killer shows up to check on the noise. Similarly, if you end up on the hook yourself, Kindred will let your entire team know about it, whether the killer is camping, who is on gens and where, and whether any survivor is already going for the rescue. Bring it, Kindred saves more lives than BT with the knowledge it provides
    2. It is impossible to always know your route the moment any random chase actually starts. You can however usually figure those out in advance before the chase begins.
      1. When you get to a gen, look around. If a given gen can be repaired from multiple sides, one side will always be better protected than the other. The protection may not be great, but it will always be better than those other sides. and find a position that will give you the best view of the approaching killer and the best possible means of escape
      2. Whenever you happen to see a survivor change their position while working on a gen with you, ask yourself why they are doing that? Typically they will be doing that to gain some type of an advantage on the killer.
    3. If you start a chase uninjured and simply run in a straight line, you can usually get to some type of an obstacle offering advantage to survivors.
      1. Even running in a straight line, for the entire time it takes to get 2 hits and falling somewhere decently far away from a hook is a huge amount of time that you just bought the rest of your team.
      2. Always think of a chase as something you will ultimately lose. Once you get to a point where you can "comfortably" outplay inexperienced killers, the killers themselves will let you know that by the virtue of the choices they make.
    4. Whenever you watch a YouTube guide, make sure it is somewhat current. I watched a survivor video the other day, and I had a hard time figuring out what was happening. It was a joke of the worst kind, with the survivor making ridiculous moves, yet not a single of their maneuvers should have worked. It literally looked like someone playing today's DBD with some type of a hack. Then I saw that the video was from sometime in 2017.
    5. Watch Otz's brand new Survivor guide video on Youtube. In 15 minutes, he breaks down in general terms what survivors should be more-or-less doing at all times (the 90% of gameplay)

  • Bubba is fine. In fact, the rework makes him a reasonable killer to play against instead of the joke he used to be.

Toxic Bubba is not. Bubba can purposely ruin the match for all involved with the insidious/grasp basement build (which doesn't even require a basement hook as insidious neutralizes BT)

Yes, as a survivor you can and should just do the gens, let the basement survivor die (or hang and die there yourself), and move on to the next game. However, the real issue is that you still have to stay in what has now become a pointless match till its conclusion. The basement hook should not force an escape, but should actually go through the whole struggle phase to make the killer think a rescue is on its way. Similarly, the remaining survivors should all remain in the match instead of dc-ing to make the remaining gens pop as fast as possible.

  • while I understand your frustration, I think it is misplaced. The graphics overhaul that has been released is worth $25 in my book. I went from low 10s FPS at Medium/0% res on the Silent Hill map, to the current 45-55 FPs at HIGH.

More importantly, plenty of maps actually also look better (not a fan of the Estate rework though). This is an enormous improvement for me, and I bet for others as well. It required a lot of work from the devs

  • Iam a survivor main and don't play killer, which makes my killers be permanently stuck at 16-20 ranks. This causes some interesting MMR, and I can tell with practical certainty whether a survivor I am chasing is a true tan-ranked/new-player survivor, or one with enough experience that perhaps simply not played for a while.

If the survivor happens to be the latter, I will actively try to engage him and if you outplays me for the most of the confrontation but I happen to get him at endgame or get lucky some other way to a point where his death on hook would be guaranteed, I will actually let him escape one way or another as the learning experience is worth more than a few thousand BPs or a possible pip etc.

....I should probably say that I don't really often kill survivors as killer because even without much experience from the killers POV, after 2K survivor hours, you learn plenty of killer tactics just by looking behind you.

  • The most wholesome moment I have experienced in DBD was actually the very first time I played a trial. My first trial ended on January 10 @ 12:00am (per the timestamps of the 3 achievements below), but my journey to get to that first trial literally took weeks. If you don't feel like wasting your time, skip all the way down to where it says "my first time:" as that part describes my first DBD game. However, the backstory part will likely shed some light why my first impression of DBD was likely very different from everyone else's and why I will never ever forget my first trial.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Backstory: Getting DBD, and all it took to get it to run for the first time

Up until recently, I was strictly a Linux user, who once upon a time actually held full developer status for a particular distribution, and who has not used any Windows version in any substantial way after Windows XP. In fact, up until recently, the last Windows version that I purposely installed on my own system - even if as just a secondary OS - was Windows XP and this happened in the days where you either used Windows, or you simply didn't get to use that particular piece of software. I am not talking about games or even running MS office; you absolutely had to have Internet Explorer at your disposal to work with anything built on top of ActiveX. Even today you really have to do some ridiculous heavy lifting to get anything built on top of that framework to work, as even MS Edge browser doesn't support it out of the box (active X is one of those underlying reasons why many large companies with "stable" infrastructure already in place cannot easily migrate, migrate or in some cases even patch their systems without going offline until a brand new rework is implememnted).

I got hurt towards the end of last year, to a point where I couldn't walk for about 2 months. After running out of Netflix, one day I decided to get a new video game. Now, these days Linux distributions are no longer at the mercy of their closed-source big brother. While many older games can simply be installed and ran with Wine under Linux, this approach can take a lot of time, energy and countless useless packages to get a newer title going. However, Valve Corp actually allows for Linux to now be a more-or-less viable "native" platform for Steam games. I already had Payday 2 from before and that ran beautifuly with Steam, under Linux.

It was time to get a new game....and I already vaguely knew what game I wanted to get, but I just couldn't remember the exact title nor much details about it. I definitely knew it was a horror game, you are in a group of friends, and the title had something to do with the morning. I don't remember how I worded it in the search box but the first game I found was Dying Light.

I already had, played, may have actually beat ( I think?) and ultimately gave up on Dying Light. I was heartbroken... I couldn't believe that the game I was thinking of immediately buying just now, and was looking forward to playing happened to be this lackluster clone of Dead Island - a game with far more originality at release, as well as scenery that didn't make you want to jump off of the nearest building.

I decide to give google another shot, but this time make the search even simpler and typed in: "Horror game killer with friends", and on the very top of the page, there was some sort of a reference to DBD (checking it now, there are two videos that come up before the text search results) and the title "Dead by Daylight". Bought it right away, (afraid it might morph into the Dying Light if I don't)

    1. Own Dead by Daylight
    2. Install DBD through Steam Play under Linux
    3. DBD is complaining about DX11. I don't get it, I know I already have all the necessary DX drivers and libraries.
    4. .....
    5. DBD is actually complaining about DX Feature Level < 11.
    6. .....(learning about differences between DX11 compatibility and feature level 11 compatiblity)
    7. Great, our GPU specs apparently allow for FL=11 and DDI=11.2 , I wonder if DBD will even star,t if we make(read brute force) a bunch of (likely unstable) "patches" to our kernel drivers, and anything else we can see is being actively read on startup.
    8. .....(Days spent on this, but still having fun)
    9. .....(Starting to feel a little bitter, doesn't seem fair for Steam to sell, and even allow the install of a game on OS running that Steam client, even when that OS apparently cannot run it)
    10. ....(progress made)
    11. .....(Steam registers game startup. Wow the loading screen looks to have gotten past the feature level error)
    12. ..... (Excitement)
    13. ....Crash!
    14. ..... (Disappointment)
    15. "What in lord's name is Easy-anti cheat????" (After more research, I realize that EAC will be incredibly difficult if not outright impossible to circumvent on a long-term basis)
    16. ....(Sulking)
    17. ....(Not installiing Windows just to play a game, no way)
    18. ....(Fine, I might install it, but I am certainly not buying an actual copy of Windows)
    19. ....(Quick. the laptop I bought few years ago, must have come with some Windows version pre-installed, I bet it still has a serial number on the back)
    20. ....Windows 7 - and i even left it as a second OS.
    21. ....Win7 apparently will not do, can't remember why exactly but at least Win 8.1 , or better yet Win10 was needed. Testing DBD on a laptop with IGPU - even one capable of DX FL 11.0 would not have been fruitful anyway.
    22. ....(By now, I somehow managed to get Steam to show that I have been playing DBD for over 1 hour because of multiple starts and crashes)
    23. ..........(days pass)....
    24. End of December, Christmas Eve, spending it with parents, siblings and family.(Everyone's a comedian this year, cracking jokes about the cane I am still using to walk)
    25. Find out my dad bought a new (refurbished) computer last year but it has gotten really slow already
    26. I copy the serial number for Win10 thats taped to the chassis, and put Elementary OS linux on my dad's comp (terrible but simple distro)
    27. ....(I forgot to check if I have enough free storage to make two large partitions, one for W10 and one for steamapps etc)
    28. .....(First I move things around, then I quickly give up and order a new HDD)
    29. .....The HDD gets here after New Year's. Waste more time getting the WIn 10 installation image, making the bootable usb, and installing the disk inside the case wastes even more time.
    30. .....Installation screen shows a bazillion versions of Windows 10 that I can install. The serial specifies Win 10 Pro.
    31. .....I see Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Pro N...... N probably stands for netwroking, yeah let's go with Windows 10 Pro N.
    32. .....Fantastic! Wait, there are no codecs installed, Windows Update does not solve the issue, MS forums are not helpful
    33. .....I learn that N in Windows 10 Pro N does not stand for Networking, but is actually the European edition of Win 10 where many default libraries are not installed by default (Perhaps going with E instead of N in the future might prevent others from making this mistake).
    34. .....(Debate formatting and installing Windows 10 Pro instead. Decide to do it. Somehow install Win 10 Pro N again, I kid you not)
    35. .....Another 4 hours for everything to update, and DBD to download and install.

The game finally starts and I am in the main menu.

    DBD: My first Trial

    1. (What? You can play through the main storyline as the killer too??!! That's so awesome!)
    2. (Let's play the survivor's storyline first.)
    3. (Nice, they have a bunch of different characters) Not sure why I see Bill from L4D as one of them, but this is suppose to be a horror game so less I know beforehand the better and I don't really question it either.
    4. I choose Dwight, then click on either the Loadout or bloodweb and see the initial message about perk slots.) I guess you can level them up like in any other RPG.
    5. Hit ready, there is a lobby. 60 second timer runs out before I even realize there is a chat there to use.
    6. My first trial starts......I spawn in some hospital (I am 99% I got Lery's Institute as my first map).
    7. I have no idea what to do yet (or at all), so I do what everyone does in any story-based new game. I pick a direction and walk/run forward.....and wait for that first cutscene .....the cutscene never comes.
    8. Instead I see another player running by me (They know what to do! Need to follow.....)
    9. I follow, they start doing something to some machine. They are doing it for like 15 seconds.....I get closer....oh I can help!
    10. My 1st skill check ends up also being my first failed skill check. (Not sure what just happened.... I wonder if I can die from these if it happens again. Still should try to actually hit it next time)
    11. ....(a few seconds pass)
    12. ... My survivor friend runs away from our generator..... I guess he is done with his portion. I guess I have to finish mine first because my repair bar is not full yet......so I stay....
    13. .........(What?).......(What was that?)......(I could have sworn I just saw a ghost that looked like the killer from Scream chase after my survivor friend. I guess Ghostface costume by itself might not be trademarked and in the public domain or something)
    14. .......(some other survivor got hit, I just heard a scream)
    15. ......(Oh no, the killer is running back).......(He can definitely see me)........(Nevertheless, I am gonna look away, and pretend I don't see him)
    16. .....about 5 seconds later, I realize two things a) that is indeed the killer from scream and b) looking away was not the optimal strategy
    17. ..... (I find myself crawling now. Tried to recover , but full recovery seems to be disabled..... Maybe this is all part of the intro)
    18. ......Someone helps me up....but the killer finds me right away......crawling again.....maybe I am suppose to crawl to an exit. Let's crawl
    19. ......I think another survivor is now also crawling on the floor like me now., I can see shadows of 2 more.... Let's crawl to that general area.
    20. .....(See the killer a couple of times on the way. Yep, definitely Ghostface)
    21. .....(Both the other survivor and I get healed by others. I find out I can help heal others just like I could help with the generators)
    22. .....(Helping out with a generator, feeling usefull. terrified of skill checks, they seem impossible, so much going on)
    23. .....Ghostface returns. Someone ends up crawling again. This time I run but he is chasing me.
    24. .....I see a message on the bottom of the screen. Space Bar to do something. I hit the space bar but also let go of the shift. Pallet drops in front of me. .....crawling again.
    25. ......(Some gens pop while everything is happening, but bear in mind this is still the first 5 min of my very first DBD trial with no prior knowledge of gameplay)
    26. ....while crawling I figure out that the number in the bottom left corner corresponds to the generators and shows how many are left.
    27. ....For now I keep crawling. Not sure if I should crawl or lay still and just recover.
    28. ....Get helped up again....Feeling useful by helping heal another even though I am injured myselfm. Then helping with a gen.
    29. ..... Fail another check, my survivor friend runs away from our gen (more likely me). I decide to stay by myself and at least try to get better at these skill checks. (they seem to be the key!)
    30. ....Ghostface comes back. Lets me finish my generator....then shortly after I find myself crawling again.
    31. ...(by now, I understand how this self-recovery stage works so I try to fill the health bar before crawling somewhere else)
    32. ...Final generator pops. There is a msg about Exits where the gen number used to be. This must be it!
    33. ...(What just happened....Ok, I guess that's a timer of sorts and I have to get somewhere before it runs out)
    34. ..(I crawl into some large room, with stairs going up.....seems reasonable, let's crawl up the stairs.)
    35. ...Now, It looks like 2 of the survivors have made it out of the hospital. There should still be one more. left.....
    36. ....Nevermind, they left too.......and Ghostface just found me.
    37. ....(Now I am being carried by the killer.. I am fully expecting to die a gruesome death.
    38. ....Ghostface drops me near a spot that looks like our exit gate, then ;et's me crawl through it and escape.
    39. .....(This level of confusion should not even be remotely possible)
    40. .....(The short, but very pleasant and kind-hearted post-game chat makes it clear that Dead by Daylight might not actually be the game I was originalyl looking for after all)

For those of you who have not guessed it, (yet might have read through all of that nonesense above) the game I actually happened to be looking for when I found Dead by Daylight is called Until Dawn (only available for PS4 it seems) and if I had typed in anything else into google, or actually found Until Dawn and saw that it was not a PC game I likely would have never even heard of DBD. Similarly, if I had encountered any other killer in my first game, or some very toxic gameplay, I might have given up on trying to get better at the game.

I never ended up getting or playing Until Dawn.

Since my first match on January 10th, I have put in about 1700 hours into DBD, met many good-hearted survivors at all different ranks, from brown all the way to red where I mostly play these days, and even made a few DBD friends along the way.,

.....but even all of that still pales in comparison to finally being able to consistently hit those dreaded skill checks.

Finally, these are the 3 very special and highly memorable Achievements I got after my first DBD game.

It's not bannable, but it is just about the most toxic thing you can possibly do considering the game actually punishes you for it more than them and yet you're doing it anyway.

After 2K hours, I have seen a lot, and basement Bubba is hands down the most toxic thing you can get. Whenever a new trial spawns, there are now two roulette wheels going in my head 1. Is it going to be regular Bubba (survivors caught near basement will likely doom us all) and 2. Is it going to be the basement Insidious Bubba ( I might doom us all, who knows)

Basement bubba is the quintesential example of holding the game hostage....and he could be fixed so easily: have his charges deplete in the basement, and obviously only in the basement, instead of recharging.

    1. My post was in no way meant to imply anything about Moris in terms of their power, only their frequency.
    2. The post was made because of a real shocked response at their frequency because several months ago I performed the following experiment with regards to Bloody Party Streamers

My main point being: we need to change the rarity designations because they clearly mean nothing regardless of whether we are talking about items, addons, and or offerings.

One last note about Moris: offering Moris to new players is not actually that useful, as those offerings not only deprive them of any BP bonus (through another offering) but also decrease their final BP earned totals. In the end it slows down their level progression, deprives them of better perks , and most importantly doesn't actually help them get better at the game.

  • same here, but it doesn't feel like a typical run-of-the-mill lag....more like a cpu/gpu spasm i.e this lag seems to have a wider area of effect for me.
