I would argue that the changes to Ruin are one of the best changes they've ever made and that current DBD is in one of the better states it has ever been in.

You have to cater to the masses not the top 1-5%. Otherwise you'll, pardon the pun, ruin your own game.

Just pretend old Ruin was never there & stop trying to compare new Ruin to old Ruin.

I think people sometimes have short term memory & forget how far this game has come. Or they haven't been playing it for a long time.

But, yeah, the forum is littered with people upset over any & every change, that won't ever change, regardless of what Behavior does. If they changed Ruin back, the forum would just be people complaining about them changing it back...

I would say that the ruin changes are not bad, but the devs ignored the main issue - gen speeds.

  • Ok so instead of cleansing totems.. you bullied this inexperienced killer?

You talk about t-bagging and pallet-slamming as if it's the cool trendy nice thing to do to a killer. You may have just discouraged a player from ever using Oni again as they couldve just been learning him.

NOED is not OP. Cleanse totems or escape before you get hit - if he's so bad you must not get hit right? Geez.

Put more efford into your next bait.

  • @Fibijean said:

It's not a conspiracy. If they didn't want us knowing the truth, they would go to a bit more trouble to hide the values in the game files. It's not like this information isn't publicly available on the official wiki.

OP - I'll copy and paste the answer I gave on your original question, in case you'd like to have a discussion about it.

I believe the reason they use words is to make the add-ons easier to compare to one another. Everyone knows what the word "moderate" means, so you can get a rough idea of how effective that add-on is just by reading the description, whereas if it said 10% you would have to do the maths to understand how much difference it really makes in the context of the power.

And the reason that particular words aren't associated with specific percentages - for example, "considerably" could mean 20% on one killer's add-on and 15% on another - is because they are relative terms. Meaning that their purpose is to give you an idea of how effective that add-on will be at enhancing its corresponding killer power. 15% might be a "tremendous" amount in some contexts and only a "moderate" amount in others - a 15% movement speed increase, for example, is huge, but a 15% increase in healing speed only makes about two seconds' difference - so in some ways it's more useful to know the relative effectiveness of an add-on instead of just a number.

Having said all that, and while I do think that using relative terms to describe certain add-ons is actually useful, I think it would also be a good idea to include the actual percentages in the descriptions for those who are interested in exact figures.

I would rather know the seconds over percentages. Like saying "increases Evil Within III by 30 seconds" instead of considerably or even 50%

  • i guess it depends on the tone you read it. if you want to hear it whiny, you will.

it was just my nod at the everything that the devs say about making the game more fun for survivors.

It's just dumb to cater to new players, I mean my kid doesn't like to get up early but I doubt the school would change the start time to 11. And as far as the old ruin it did help killers it was a stall. It caused survivors to shift focus from gens to totems buying killers more time. It wasn't op it was just an inconvenience.

I agree. There /is/ a secondary objective, but it grants nothing but a small amount of bp unless there's an actual reason to do it.

You know what I found to be most disturbing about the whole ruin change? The thing that a dev in the Q&A literally said well if you struggle as a killer you should go and checkout certain content creators.

Meanwhile why did they not tell new players to just learn how to hit skillchecks? I am sorry but that was the biggest bs answer in the whole Q&A after the change.

They need a more detailed tutorial for survivor and killer. Telling new players to go watch content shouldnt be their tutorial. I think they know what they need but are either too lazy or too scared to do it. Or maybe they don't care about their playerbase at all.

What counter do killers have for toolboxes

    Franklins?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1060600#Comment_1060600

When corrupt intervention got here and pgtw got buffed I stopped using ruin for most of my killers. They often spawned on top of it and good survivors weren't even phased by it.

You shouldn't have to use an entire perk to nullify an item that can just be picked back up anyway.

I think old ruin was fine because of the risk factor - the fact that it is a hex.

Franklins, as someone else has said, doesn't destroy the item unless it was already almost depleted.

  • @MrsMaliciousX said:

I want the old ruin back.

I play mostly survivor but lemme tell ya...I WANT OLD RUIN BACK!!! the killers weren't as bad, Half the time I get maybe 6-10k blood points because the games over in 2 mins and if I'm found I'm either tunneled outta the game or Im camped. And I play 95% of my games solo Q'd survivor so my teammates just farm me..

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DEVS...REVERT IT BACK!!!

Yes! If we ignore the effect that old ruin had on the length of a match.. New ruin makes killers more toxic. Everyone uses NOED or slugs or camps or does whatever they can to ensure kills. I played a few more rounds as Spirit and Pig and I will admit, I had to be more scummy to get kills.

I don't need ruin on Pig because of the way I play her, but on non-stealth killers I think Ruin is a must. At least for non-toxic or scummy play.

I literally had a wraith carry me to the hatch and hook me next to it just because he wanted to. It may not be related, but i'd say before the patch people wouldn't do a-hole things like that so much.

They shouldn't balance the game around "Average survivors"

They should balance the game based on skill level or rank. Otherwise it wont work

  • @Hex_Face_Camp said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/126477/you-cared-about-their-fun-so-much-that-you-took-away-mine

The problem is not ruin, the problem is gen repair speed and the devs don't want to acknowledge that sadly. But yeah even though I still play a couple of matches as killer I've been focusing more on survivor too (I'm still a rank 3 killer but there's always that one game where you go against an swf team that not only gen rushes you but bullies you and teabags lmfao that's when I switch to survivor and say fck killer honestly)

I totally agree. But as you said, the devs dont care about the gen speed and wont acknowledge it as a problem. So the only thing I can hope for is for them to revert the Ruin change. Once I finish level 1 of tome II i'm going back to survivor until the next level comes out.

  • I started DBD as a Spirit main and playing her has really helped my listening skills on any killer, as well as my tracking and the art of guessing where the survivors will be. She's not easy but she does intimidate survivors and that makes them verbally abuse her.

I've seen way more insults and abuse come from survivors when playing her than with any other killer. "f u spirit" "ur gay for using spirit" "why would u use her" "gay spirit main" "racial slur"

She is hard to master but not too hard to get kills with if you're cocky or just a straight up jerk to the survivors.

  • Sound is horribly bugged on killer side. Can't hear most of the stuff that I do when it's in my face. Carry a survivor? Can't hear them wiggling. Kick a generator? Can't hear it. Hell, even opening lockers makes it sound like the sound is coming from behind my head. Get stunned as spirit? Can't hear her wail of pain.

But they don't care because it's not exactly game breaking for killers.

  • @TheDiz said:

I just played against 4 rank 3 and 4 survivors and I was a rank 13 Wraith....lol, thank God I was only doing a stupid challenge because I just waited at the hatch towards the end to close it since I knew they just wanted to teabag at the exit and had a split second to close the hatch before the last 2 finally left. The only reason I was doing a killer challenge was because survivor cues were way too long.... To be completely honest the only reason I even play lately is because I have too much money invested into the game to just stop and I like playing survivor until I get a potato SWF team. But no matter what you do as killer the survivors are so damn toxic

Yeah i'd say 70% of killers now use NOED or something else that ruins the game. I went against a Trapper that had a complete slugging build - Deerstalker, Knockout, Ruin and one other perk that I forget. This guy even had Iri stone and stitched bag. Old ruin was great because it made killers not want to be toxic because they had that extra little safety net.

People sh*t on old Ruin, but they don't think about how other survivor perks also give them a boost in the early game (No Mither + Resilience combo, Prove Thyself, any toolbox, spawning together)

  • @Hoodied said:

The ruin change wasn't a bad idea

The part that made it so heavily frowned upon is that none of the things people used it for were changed with it

So right now you have to play competitively to even kill survivors now, and this game isn't comp

    I agree.

  • I think the only situation where this would be fine is if someone DC's on purpose. Otherwise, no. If someone dies, that's just the game going in favor of the killer - as it should tbh.

  • Nobody's talking about Hawkins Lab. I haven't played on that map in loooong time and I kinda forgot that it existed. I was only reminded of it during the PTB on the new Lery's map, since there is a lot of the same ambient noises.

Demogorgon is rarely played in red ranks, since he just isn't strong enough to consistently win.

I see a lot of Nancy's around, barely any Steve's.

I don't have the Stranger Things DLC so I can't give my opinion on the perks, and I often don't check what other people use so I can't say how often I see them

  • @Mistikus said:

usually i watch some good horror or comedy with something hot to drink

    that's a good idea!

  • I think it should not be a hex. To balance this the regression speed could be reduced to 150% or even 100% flat. It's too weak to be a hex now as it is pretty bad on its own, and even though the devs said they think it'll work good in the end-game... hexes don't make it to the end game.

  • As a survivor: I don't pay attention enough. I usually rely on my hearing and will stare in one direction while working on a gen and the killer will come up behind me and game-end my butt :(

As a killer: I'm too trusting that survivors will make mistakes. I'm not as aggressive as I should be, especially as trapper, because I assume they will step into a trap and make my life easy. Not the case.

  • the Trapper build I do the best with is this:

Corrupt Intervention - to give yourself setup time at the beginning of the match

Ruin (old) - wont have use after the nerf is live

Huntress Lullaby - to give Ruin a lesser chance of being cleansed first, and also good for tracking if it says up

    BBQ - tracking

EDIT: you could use Devour Hope or NOED instead of Ruin, otherwise this is my build every day.

Then it wouldn't really affect new players that much, as they're still learning, and experienced players need to look for the totem if they want their speed boost.

I think it could work as is with the new changes if they also made it so great skill check zones were removed. That could potentially slow things down, as there are also toolbox add-ons that improve great check repair speeds. It's good as a map pressure perk now, but got rid of the whole reason it had been used in the first place.

that would actually be a great idea. removing great skillchecks as part of the hex's effect would make it much better as is.

  • @DWolfAlpha said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/978479#Comment_978479

I kinda wanted it to be changed a bit. It was too rng. Either less regression or maybe make it so that the skill checks are on a timer during ruin. I had times were the rng popped 3 skill checks in quick succession. I'm not that great at great skill checks. I play on console, and I've heard it's apparently harder. I didn't miss the skill checks, but got the regression checks, and lost about 30 seconds of gen time. But I really don't like what it's turned into. I play both sides, and really like Legion. But the only build I'm any good with for them is a slow down build, and ruin was a main stay for slowing down early games so I could get hooks for dying light.

I could've lived with any other change to ruin but they chose the worst one. I agree.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

I don't like the new Lery's, either. The colors are so drab that it's not visually interesting, it's way too dark and foggy, and it has too much ambient noise; it's just a less maze-like version of Hawkins, now. It feels like it lost some (most? all?) of its personality.

totally! it used to be this cool brightly lit creepy clinic with screams and silence. now it's dark. I liked that it was well lit before because thats what i think of when i think of a medical clinic. the lights are too bright.

I also noticed that they reused some of the Hawkins sounds, such as walking over piles of rubble and banging doors.

ACB was my favourite until 3 then 4 but there was this particular track that would play especially in the cult lairs that creeped me out it was literally whispering. Never played AC3 multiplayer, played iv version though and throughly enjoyed it too bad they replaced it with unity co-op then nothing.

AC3's multiplayer is awesome. it's basically free for all hide n seek. I played it the other day actually, it still has people playing it on PS3 to this day lol.

I don't like AC4 as I hated driving the boats and I don't think I ever finished it fully. I couldn't get past that one quest to do stealth boat driving.

I forgot about Skyrim, I heard so much good about it but never tried it. Can it be played in 3rd person or is it first person? Not really a fan of not being able to see my character.

You can switch between first person and third person in both Fallout 4 and Skyrim. I like to use first person in Skyrim because combat is easier, but I use third person in Fallout because I like seeing my character in that game. (theyre both Bethesda games and the base mechanics for some stuff are the same)

Skyrim offers a lot of story and multiple side questlines. It's awesome.

I wasn’t too much of a fan when the first Assassins Creed came out. The combat was too slow for me, I preferred games like Devil May Cry (I consider the original as one of my top 5 favorites of all time) and the remake of Ninja Gaiden.

Any other recommendations? I’ve been out of gaming for a while and I’d like to try something that has more meat to its story and characters. I may just buy all the Witcher games, but I’m thinking to read the books first.

I've heard that people love Uncharted. I didn't like it too much myself but i'm just picky. New AC games have better combat. Skyrim and Fallout 4 are great adventure/story games. Red Dead Redemption 2 is great for story.

I may also recommend The Last of Us

Also, Monto released a video where he played new doctor and ruin + surveillance. Honestly, that's the only way I can think of to get good use out of it. Well, maybe thrilling tremors, since the regression works through it.

I think that new ruin should've been an idea for a new perk, not a change to an existing one. old ruin was fine..

I keep telling people: Dead By Daylight is not a game that starts out easy. It will be difficult from day 1 and it seems that new players have a hard time accepting that.

I have not played the ptb yet but these are my initial thoughts on the doctor and ruin changes.

The Doctor has always been on the weaker end of the killers. He does give good information and obviously if played well he's good but that is for any killer. I have read the changes and it seems that they made him weaker but I am not sure since I haven't played the ptb yet.

The ruin change seems ridiculous. I like both sides of the game. But it seems that gen rushing will be a lot easier now and ruin will probably not be used as much or not at all with the change. If the player wants gens to regress it is usually 1 maybe 2 gens and they will use Pop against it which is much more effective. Survivors can gen rush much easier because ruin wont slow them down and Corrupt Intervention only works on gens that arent being worked on.

It seems like killers have to be much more aggressive now which I think will hurt killers like the trapper or hag who have to set up. I think making ruin a non hex perk would be better if changed like this. My guess is that Discordance+PGTW will be used much more frequently now. That is my guess.

Remember, I have not played any of the changes this is ONLY based on what I read. I could be wrong on how this works now.

I hope you get a chance to play the PTB Doctor if you wish to, since I want to know what he's like to play. I don't ever intend on buying him. Your observations on the patch notes are really helpful, thanks!

I do agree killers will have to play more aggressively, which i'm not excited about.. I like to play casually and try my best, and I don't like being sweaty as it gets tiring. Now, i'll have to play sweaty tryhard every game just to win. Really makes it unfun for killers.

  • @ABannedCat said:

Yeah, I am not a fan of the new map either from the killer-perpective. Same with Hawkins and Sanctum of Wrath. The visibility is bad, there is loads of backgrounds noises, which amplify the sound issues of this game even more. Truly immersed survivors will never be found now.

I personally didn't lose anyone in the new Lery's but I did in the Sanctum of Wrath and Hawkins. It's too noisy and too dark. They tried to go for a spooky theme but it's just too hard to see.

  • I'd really like for some people to give me their experience with the Doctor changes!

  • @DeadArsenal said:

There are plenty of people offering input that understand both sides quite well. By the sound of things you're ignoring them in favor of a strawman you constructed. The new meta will be merciless and the only possible good this change could do is show BHVR exactly how busted the early game is.

While I agree that a lot of people play both sides, I know people personally who refuse to play killer and never do, only using them for archives challenges. I play killer and survivor about 60/40 but I can't say the same for a lot of others.

  • * i edited the first sentence for clarity.

  • this new chase music is very whiny and kind of hurts my ears. the volume seems to go up and down even if you stay in the same part of the TR. don't like it. It's also not as scary as I expected

  • When a dev says "we're making it less frustrating for new players" they really mean "we're making new survivors lives much easier and in turn making killers jobs much much harder"

Unless they make Ruin a non-hex perk with this change, it's going to be awful.

What's unfortunate here is that even after the PTB and whatever surveys they do, they won't revert this change and may end up losing some percent of the player base.

Dead By Daylight is not a game that starts out easy and grows in difficulty with playtime or rank increase. It starts out difficult and will stay that way until you've played 500+ hours and understand things. I have 600+ hours on DBD and I still have trouble facing certain killers and using certain killers. Survivors should not be babied.

Unless they want to change how ranks work or implement a casual mode, they should not baby survivors or "reduce frustration" for them. I get frustrated against killers that are better than me, but I don't blame that on the character. I blame that on the skilled player im facing.

I hope the devs reconsider this change and listen to the feedback of the majority. Even if they have to listen to killers for once.

In your comment (which I quoted) you said "it would work". It's the same thing people keep saying when the idea of a FNaF chapter is met with criticism. The fact that it could be a chapter doesn't mean it should be one.

The fact that people have to go out of their way to justify a chapter and make it work should be a strong enough indication that it should not happen. Relegating maps as unnecessary and having to take characters from books to make it fit should be a red flag that it isn't meant to be IMHO.

Moreover, it's not as simple as if you don't like it don't buy it. The content released should cater for the majority, not a vocal minority who are persistent on reviving a franchise that has (arguably) lost a lot of its popularity.

This isn't even mentioning the fact that the games are massively different, with different stories, themes, characters, locations and gameplay. They wouldn't work well together at all. The argument that it has an "interesting" story is entirely subjective too.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/966387#Comment_966387

People could say it is "selfish" that you're trying to force a chapter which they don't want...

From what i've seen, the fanbase is 80% 12-14 year old kids who try to force the game's content onto other things. Also, they nonstop produce fanart and fanfics about it, and hate on others who don't like the games or the story.

I had a friend who was like this. They are not my friend anymore.

Pig also has an exhaustion add-on, as well as Legion. But they are temporary and the Pig's addon only works when someone has a RBT on their head.
