I actually think that Friday the 13th The Game is a better video game than Dead By Daylight. If it weren't for the lawsuit & no new content coming to F13, I would still be playing it over DBD. It was certainly more fun as a party game or playing with friends to me.
And to claim it wasn't a success is ridiculous. The Kickstarter & backer kit alone made over a million dollars. To break the Top 100 list of all-time money raised via crowdfunding at the time. And they sold almost two million copies of the game.
If they could have kept updating it & working on bug fixes & whatnot, the game would have been good for a long time & continue to improve over time. Just like DBD did.
-
I actually wish the Mori were more graphic in this mature rated game. Mortal Kombat Fatality style. Most of them look pretty lame since you're not seeing a lot of blood or dismemberment or anything. It's just usually a lil' beatin' & then a corpse laying there lookin' like they're just sleeping.

Title says it all. Prove Thyself used to be a perk I only saw on occasion, once every few games. Make no mistake, it's a decent perk, but... why do I suddenly see it in every game now? What happened?! Did the Ruin-Undying meta somehow cause this? What happened?!
Y'know, it could very well be because of the Hex: Ruin & Hex: Undying metagame, now that you mention it. Personally speaking, I was running Prove Thyself with Detective's Hunch for a bit. My reasoning was that you'll usually be able to pop that first motor & then Hunch will pop off so you can find a(nother) set of bones.
Also, just because gen rushing will almost always be a thing, it would make sense as a way to combat ever-living Ruin.
-
Man, if they do ever add a werewolf killer, he's going to be super OP!
-
I personally feel like I've been playing a ton, more so than ever, and I'm only level 57. So yeah, the grind is real. Honestly about to just give up & it doesn't feel worth it to me anymore.
-
So what exactly is the Halloween event going to be this time around?
Because I loved the 4th year Anniversary with all the cakes and bonus BPs each game.
Cosmetics are cool but I need the grind to be a lot less, y'know?
-
TBH at this point, I hate about half the Killers in the game.
My least favorites are still Ghostface & Huntress though.
-
Absolute first thing I would do is eliminate perk tiers & remove the Bloodpoint caps both on 32k per game and 1 million storage.
The game feels WAY too grindy & gets worse every three months. It's a ridiculous mountain to climb, especially for new players. And the last thing you want to do is scare away potential new customers.
-
I only play solo queue & it's fine.
I will say, console players are... You can definitely tell that they play differently. Even at red ranks. A lot more stealth. They dive bomb hooks. They always run & never heal or stay to get healed - even if you're running we'll make it.
I actually had to disable crossplay because they're so...not my playstyle. Even with longer queues, it's worth it.
-
I have less than a week to finish the Rift to unlock all the unlockables. I'm currently level 56.
I want to finish that rift & do the Halloween event then I might take a break as well. I still enjoy the game, I just don't want to burn myself out on it!

When they nerfed Hex: Ruin, everyone & their mama complained. Yet, it was better. No one wanted to admit it, but it was better.
Now they make Hex: Undying & people are pairing it with (new) Ruin & that's the new meta. Which people are already complaining about & it's going to get worse as more people catch on. Ruin, Undying, Tinkerer... good luck.
Be careful what you wish for. You might hate Decisive Strike right now... but it can always get worse.
-
It also feels like it's easier to get 360'd & harder to see people ducking right beside you, even win you look down. Something feels off.

Make me a build with any 4 survivor perks excepting the ones below, I'll play the game and post my results. Perks I don't have:
Babysitter
Second Wind
Stake Out
Wake Up
I can use Feng, Kate, or Zarina ( those are the ones I have all the perks on. )
We're Gonna Live Forever
Borrowed Time
We'll Make It
Inner Strength
Save teammates from Hooks, heal Teammates, get your WGLF stacks & break bones to turn on Inner Strength so you can heal. I like this build because I feel like it gives me more Survivor options other than just sitting on a generator & holding down the button. Also pretty good for farming BP on Survivor side.

Here is something that I know many of us will ask, why do you care about ranking? It doesn't do anything, it doesn't mean skill.
Personally speaking, I felt a big sense of pride & accomplishment the first time I hit rank 1 on both Survivor & Killer & got to unlock the Steam achievements. Now, it might not matter to people with a lot of game time, or people that have already climbed that mountain, but anyone that hasn't gotten there before, I understand why it matters.
Also, they've added rank reset Bloodpoints rewards now, so getting top rank actually means you get something. A nice little incentive for those that already devote a lot of time to the game.
If the game has a built-in ranking system & matchmaking using said ranking system, it's not that far fetched to think that people playing the game will continue to pay attention to it as well.
There's nothing wrong with a self-admitted newer playing wanting to accomplish in-game goals. Admittedly, the whole system does need an overhaul, and no one is claiming it's a true measure of skill, but it's still something for newer players to strive for.
-
You should definitely get a stack from safely rescuing a teammate from a Pyramid Head cage, at the very least.
-
I don't want to make a long list of things but something as simple as like a QOL improvement to Trapper, where he started with all of his traps already in his hand, would go a long way. Just a QOL overhaul update would be great.
I would also be down w/ them completely changing what Decisive Strike does as a whole, to the point where it's an entirely different perk that doesn't get you off of the killers shoulder anymore. Like what they did with Ruin. Which I actually think new Ruin is better than old Ruin which wasn't a popular opinion when the changes first came out, but now with Undying, I think more would agree with.
-
I don't mind Dead Hard too much. The majority of the time as the killer, you can play around it. You can't really play around Sprint Burst.
Now, can we talk about how terrible Lithe is? Even with vaulting perks it feels like you get hit when you go through a vault 90% of the time. And you can't blame it on dedicated servers anymore. Like all these killers have Stretch Armstrong/Dhalsim swings that teleport to the other side of any vault, it's ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as throwing a pallet down - GETTING THE STUN ON THE KILLER - and STILL getting hit, too.
-
Ghostface. I just don't like the style of gameplay that he introduces. The whole camping to set-up one shot gameplay where as a Survivor you have to play paranoid. To the point where at the start of every game, unless I see like a fountain, dreamstate, trap, hear the hum, etc. I always assume it's Ghostface to start until something tells me otherwise. Just don't like it.
-
No one used it before. No one will use it after. Buffing a Perk to make it still bad doesn't mean people will start using it just because. It has to replace one of their other four perks that they already use... none of which are Technician & I don't see that changing anytime soon.
I'm not sure the exact number of Survivor Perks there are in the game right now but only about a dozen of them see any real use. And Technician isn't in the top 20.
-
For the record, I would be 100% a-ok w/ a complete rework of Decisive Strike so that it doesn't even do the same thing anymore. Not just messing w/ the seconds.
-
I find it interesting that they didn't nerf PoP until the meta had shifted away from PoP/Corrupt into Undying/Ruin first.
-
If they nerf Undying, Blight DLC becomes a waste of money.
-
If you watch streamers, regardless of if they play killer or survivor, they make it sounds like there's no winning from the perspective of the other side.
If you are a survivor & you work on a gen, you're gen rushing. If you don't work on a gen, you're a worthless teammate or don't know how to loop. If you do loop, you're "wasting" pallets. If you're playing a killer & you chase someone & don't immediately down them, you're "getting ran" or are a "baby killer." If you do down them, you're playing an OP killer, or their teammates are trash. Or you got lucky or used OP add-ons, or the map RNG was trash or something. Always something.
Whatever, case in point being you can't win. No matter which side you play, no matter how you play, no matter what you do, they'll find something to complain about. There is neverending excuses no matter what.
And then the people that watch them do the same in end game chat.
Which is why I ignore them all & keep in game chat closed. Don't focus on that. Remember it's a video game & you're supposed to be having fun. That's the whole point. Play it the way you want to play it where it makes you enjoy the time you spend with it.
-
He's good in the hands of Killers that are already good at the game, much like Nurse. But you have to already be good at the game to utilize him fully. Maybe that's an obvious statement but even with the bound-to-get-nerfed compound 21, in the hands of even just adequate killers, he won't do much. He's easy to dodge - again, unless they're really good (in which case which killer they are doesn't even really matter) - and he can't do jack on indoor maps or at the shed. Unless you've practiced the angles a lot - like in pool - or get a good RNG tree to spawn.
He's SUPER fun though!
-
Whatever makes it so that even with crossplay enabled, I don't have to sit in queue for ten minutes.
-
Toxic. Mostly children. Streamers are 50/50 on if they're toxic or chill. You're better off keeping chat hidden/off. If there's a bug/exploit/cheat, you'll have to play against it guaranteed.
-
Ghostface. I don't like playing paranoid & being able to be one-shot by someone's playstyle that is basically camp to fill a bar to get rewarded. Also feels like the reveal on him is still horribly bugged.
Second would be Huntress.
-
For me, it's just a personal preference because I find Exhaustion perks boring & I would rather farm Bloodpoints. Same reason I also don't run Decisive Strike or Unbreakable. After you've put in a lot of time in DBD & already achieved the top ranks, it stopped being about "winning" (escaping, really) or ranking up for me. Now it's just about the grind. Also, if it is relevant, I play on PC.
The spot where I would probably put an Exhaustion perk, I run We're Gonna Live Forever instead. Since I run WGLF, I want those stacks, so I always run Borrowed Time with it. So that's half of my perk slots. When I am doing a quest in the Tome & need to put something else specific on for the quest, WGLF is usually the perk that I swap out until I complete the challenge.
Then I like to have a healing perk, even if I bring a medkit. Lately, I have been enjoying Inner Strength. I need to break bones anyway, especially now after Blight has come out & I don't have to worry about getting Sloppy Butchered like if I were running Self-Care. Plus Iron Maiden isn't super popular. Also I prefer at the start of a game to find a Totem instead of hopping straight on a motor because the Killer is always going to do a lap to the Generators to find his first Survivor to chase. I don't like being the mouse in the cat & mouse that is Dead by Daylight at the start of the game. I like to know who the Killer is first & what not.
Which that last sentence in that paragraph & also because I play solo queue, is the reason why my last perk is usually Kindred. Because it can give me information & it can help my random queue teammates.
I'm not a big fan of Dead Hard & honestly, most of the time when I have used it in the past, I forget that I have it on so I don't remember to use it. Sprint Burst is nuts, of course, but I don't like the minigame that is micromanaging my Exhaustion cooldown. Plus there's the bonus effect of not having to worry about Killer exhausted cooldown perks/add-ons/items if I don't run any to be turned off.
If I had a fifth perk slot available to run as Survivor, I still don't think I would run an Exhaustion perk there. I would run probably We'll Make It to go along with my pretty Altruistic Bloodpoint farming build.
And while we're talking about perks. There's 83 Survivor perks & 75 Killer perks according to the official Dead by Daylight Wiki. Can we remove perk tiers already? The game should not feel this grindy.
-
Otz is one of the people in the DBD community that we should really prop up. Like Umbra, Bronx & Tofu. The people that are good, positive & have strong communities.
It's the Hexys & AngryPugs of the world that shouldn't be put on a platform. Big followings, hosting tournaments or not. If you hoist up the negativity & give them a platform, expect that to spread through the community as well.
-
Don't feel bad for him. Games like that just give him more content so that he continues to make a living off of playing a video game. Have some perspective.

Dead By Daylight is not a competitive E-Sport. Stop treating it like one.
It also cracks me up to see people talking about the $15k like it's life-changing money. A prize pool that gets taxed & then split 4-5 ways. Yeah, HUGE numbers! You could maybe get a used car or update your P.C. (if you win).
Ignore all the hours that go into getting tournament ready by the way. That's free labor.
-
I wish people would stop trying to use individual games from Twitch streamers - that have thousands of hours logged into the game & literally play hours every day, seven days a week - to try to back up their point on what needs balanced or nerfed.
The big one being generator speeds.
-
The Tall Man from Phantasm. Mostly because I am a big fan of the movie franchise but also because I think he would fit into Dead by Daylight flawlessly. His mori would be obvious, flying ball of death. His M1 would be his big backhand. Maybe his M2 could be something to do with the dwarves?
Plus, for Survivor we could get Reggie with his ice cream truck alternate outfit. And the funeral home for the map. Or if they don't want to do another indoor map, the surrounding outside cemetery of Morningside.
-
I genuinely really enjoy the game. That being said, despite having over 500 hours played - which is ultimately low in the grand scheme of other hardcore players - I still perpetually feel like I'm constantly grinding Bloodpoints. Not even trying to prestige or get all perks on all Survivors/Killers. Just getting all perks on ONE Survivor/Killer, without prestiging anyone. It just feels neverending. I can only imagine what it's like for new players nowadays.
Play Killer & use BBQ & pudding - always. Play Survivor, use WGLF & Cake - always. Even with all the free Bloodpoints, dailies & now Redeem Codes, it's like... a million BP isn't even much in the grand scheme.
-
Ironically, the majority of the time I see someone 99% a gate, it leads to someone dying because the door isn't open when they're running during their last chase.
-
With everyone running Decisive Strike, Dead Hard & Unbreakable (the other two I see a lot are Adrenaline & Borrowed Time), I'm actually surprised that I haven't been running into a lot more Mori offerings than I have.
At the end of the day, it is a video game & games are meant to be fun. I suspect, outside of doing a daily, I don't see a lot of people bring in a Mori because it's just not that fun. Of course, "fun" is subjective. To some people, running the "meta build" isn't fun either but here we are.
I actually think slugging is a really big issue. And it definitely stems from Decisive Strike existing. But there's nothing less fun in DBD than laying on the ground & not being able to play. And you can't leave the game anymore either or you're penalized.
-
Yeah, have to be honest, I'm not complaining about seeing less Hillbilly.
-
If Dead By Daylight were ever actually "balanced" no one would play it or think that it was fun.
-
If the villain stays with you after the book/movie is over. If it changes the way that you think about life. Like JAWS made people scared to swim. The Exorcist has everyone believing their child was possessed.
Also less is more. If you just show everything, there's no room for people to have their imagination run wild. You have to build the suspense.
I also prefer psychological horror. Gore is low brow. It doesn't even have to be horror to come off as a horror villain. Like Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
The setting/environment have as much to do with it as the actual villain. I love the feeling of trapped by isolation. John Carpenter's The Thing. The Shining. Alien.
-
Sprint Burst by a country mile & it's not particularly close. ESPECIALLY with dedicated servers. SB is the best Exhaustion perk in the game, by a lot.
DH does very little as Killers can easily just play around it. You can't play around SB.
-
Not sure if entirely unpopular or not but I don't want to come off as entitled. But especially on Survivor side, BPPH is BRUTAL. Even if running WGLF & an offering, if there's not an event going on, it feels like such a monumental grind that it really makes me feel for new players.
Bloodpoints Per Hour
-
It really depends on your personal playstyle & what perks you're running. In example, as Survivor if you're running Inner Strength, you might want to find a Totem before jumping on a generator. Also, the Killer almost always runs & checks the gens to find the first Survivor to chase. So if you immediately jump on a generator, you might be the one the Killer finds first if he comes to the gen you're at that is making noise. Sometimes I tap a Gen to start & then walk away to a different area, like a distraction. Sometimes, if I go into the trial w/out any item, I'll grab a chest to start. Sometimes if you spawn right by a teammate you can co-op a gen super fast so it's worth going for that.
It really just depends on a lot of variables, like your perks, your spawn, your items, what map you're on, etc. Even what Killer it is, really. I definitely play differently against Ghostface than I do against someone like, say, The Huntress.

So how it'd work is you'd only have a limited amount of perk points so you'd have to choose your perks wisely. Perks like DS and NOED would cost a lot of points so you couldn't run many of them while perks like Monster Shrine and No Mither would cost only a few perk points so you could run a lot of them. As a killer and a survivor I am tired of going up against the same builds and hope this will build some variety, what you all think ?
I actually kind of like this idea but even then, there would still be a meta build. Even if the meta was like Decisive Strike, Sprint Burst, Borrowed Time and not running a 4th perk at all.
Also it might hinder people that are currently not running perks like DS. Like is someone trying to run Inner Strength, Detective's Hunch & We're Gonna Live Forever going to have a problem fitting their build in within the point parameters? That wouldn't feel fair.
-
I have two: Meg for Survivor & The Doctor for Killer.

I thought this was going to be a thread about the hill glitch & getting trapped by the Invisible Man.

Ok so i haven't been playing DBD that long about 3 and a half months I think. I really do love the game I play on xbox as I don't have a gaming pc. One thing I am finding tho on here is all the hate from pc players against console players and vice a versa. Why?? Why is there so much toxic chatter between the two? I mean i fully accept that PC rank 1s will be far better due to frame rates and also due to the fact this game was first released on PC and then eventually onto console, so PC plays have far more time in the actual game.
The toxicity is almost as bad as that between killer mains and survivor mains.
This has been going on almost all of my life. At least since I was like eight-years-old. When I was young, it was people arguing about Super Nintendo Vs. Sega Genesis. Then Playstation Vs. N64. Or PS2 Vs. X-Box 360. Now it's consoles Vs. P.C. Or mobile gaming Vs. non-mobile. There's always some sort of video game "fight" going on & people defend whichever side they play on.

to all you PC players, doesn’t it get boring going against Nurses, Spirits, and huntresses constantly? Ever since cross-play that’s all I’ve been going against. Oh and yeah they’re sweaty... like coming out of a steam room sweaty.
There's a reason a lot of folks that play Survivor try to stay around purple ranks, even if it means purposely de-piping. Red Ranks people are too try hard a lot of the time & going against top tier killers with red add-ons & what not is not super thrilling/fun/exciting/enjoyable.

This may be the most pretentious thread I have ever read.

I would prefer if they disabled chat entirely.

Solo Queue teammates are always morons.
