I always wonder...i play solo survivor 100% of the time, and in most games i get 5 totems done alone if needed. And it doesnt even take to much time, because i do gens, and when i move to the next one, i just check the totem spots on the tile i am on and the tile i move to. Then i do the same after that gen is done. When only one gen is left, i start searching the remaining totems. Yes, it wastes some time, but thats the purpose of that perk. It is meant to slow you down or get punished for ignoring it.
I just dont get the "it cant be done in solo"-mentality when i can do it perfectly fine on a regular basis. Am i that extraordinare as a survivor?
It's not that it can't be done, but I find it particularly troublesome in solo queue for a variety of reasons. There were many times I did four totems for example, hoping my team did the last one, only to get slapped with NO ED, but I had to go do other objectives instead of looking for the last totem, such as needing to rush a gen due to the circumstance of the game/needing to do a save/etc.

Yeah but it will visually show you that you're exposed. Rather than waiting until someone is hit to let them know they're exposed
I think that's how it works in general with the exposed status though in regards to perks? Or I may be wrong. I know it is like that for Devour Hope.
I think it's also meant to be an element of surprise in regards to perks. Like for Rancour, the auras you get before the last generator is done tells you that you're affected by it. But ones like NO ED and Devour Hope have no indicator otherwise.

The response isn't new because I'm simply stating you're not bringing in any new information and reiterating what I said. You responded to my thread initially with a mix of irrelevant information and then paraphrased information of what I already said, and bringing no new discussion points.
As everyone has already told you there's nothing new to bring to the table. Topic has been discussed to death since 2016. The reply was pretty relevant considering the attitude you had and still have you just can't accept it.
First of all, you aren't in any place to tell me what my intentions are for making the thread
It's not my fault your post comes off as someone whose only posting to argue for the sake of arguing. Even in your later post you outright say this thread is about people who say "Do Bones" rather than NOED itself. At that point this thread is you complaining about other players which at that point no it really doesn't have a purpose you just need to get thicker skin.
You being tired of the conversation is irrelevant
If you understood properly this is referring to the common response of "Do Bones"
Your opinion of "it doesn't go anywhere" of other NO ED topics is irrelevant
If you've been here long enough you'd realize it's true - Look at the countless threads about this topic and you'll realize that in fact yes they go no where because people don't know how to put their ego aside.
bringing up totem counter when I never talked about that
bringing up other alternatives to what dull totems to do which I never talked about that
Explaining to you what this conversation usually devolves to - Something that should have been a brief post but again you want to argue for the sake of arguing
brought up "survivor bias" when I never blamed killer players for anything and I purely blamed survivors
Again - Explaining to you why this topic is usually dismissed.
So what are you on mate? You judged erroneously based on past NO ED topics.
Based on how you post I feel I judged correctly
I'll just assume you've had a bad day and you can assume I've had one - As I've said though..
The real answer here is do bones and if that doesn't work someone on your team wasn't pulling their weight. Regarding being offended at the idea of being told to do bones you shouldn't. It's never meant to be a personal slight against you specifically it's literally just people getting so tired of the same 3 varying topics about NOED. This has been an ongoing debate since 2016 to the point where there is genuinely nothing left to add. You can't just go comparing one thing to another either because one game mechanic does not =/= another. A good example is when you brought up breakable walls in your OP. Doing this is just going to set expectations for yourself that cannot be met.
I do genuinely want you to enjoy the game like I want everyone to. However I'll tell you stop taking such statements to heart because they're not meant to be personal slights. If you feel you can't handle it turn off chat, ignore the forums and enjoy time to yourself or with friends. There's no hidden meaning behind that either I'm genuine when I say that.
As everyone has already told you there's nothing new to bring to the table. Topic has been discussed to death since 2016. The reply was pretty relevant considering the attitude you had and still have you just can't accept it.
Uhm...no. I never refuted whatever you said about past NO ED topics. I simply said it was irrelevant to mine. How other people discussed the topic is irrelevant. You can't accept that and you brought up irrelevant talking points as a result.
And so what if it does? If I want to talk about something I will discuss it.
I also love how "getting thicker skin" is a rebuttal to a topic you don't like. You're in my thread complaining about complaining and this is your advice. Lol. I'm vocal about what I don't like and people may think I'm a hard ass for that reason and that's their take, but that's actually not the case. Also, getting "thicker skin" isn't a case here as I'm not offended nor upset.
This community complains all the time. People complain all the time. You're complaining now about the content of my thread. Christ on a clutch this community really has this back and forth relationship between toxic negativity and toxic positivity.
If you understood properly this is referring to the common response of "Do Bones"
That wasn't clear in your response then. Let's take a look:
Saying "Do Bones" is just a way to finally admit - Look, I'm tired of having this conversation about NOED
This seemed like it was meant to be one sentence, and not to. "...to finally admit" looks rather incomplete, and the dash looked like it was meant to interrupt what you were saying.
If you've been here long enough you'd realize it's true - Look at the countless threads about this topic and you'll realize that in fact yes they go no where because people don't know how to put their ego aside.
As I said before, I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I'm not refuting whatever you said about NO ED topics never going anywhere or whatever. I simply said it was irrelevant to my topic and subsequently you responding to me.
Explaining to you what this conversation usually devolves to - Something that should have been a brief post but again you want to argue for the sake of arguing
That wasn't for the sake of arguing, it was because irrelevant points were bringing up. I don't care what NO ED topics were like before. I don't care what is normally said. It is irrelevant.
Again - Explaining to you why this topic is usually dismissed.
An even more irrelevant point, particularly when I BLAME survivors? What is the point of bringing up tripe that's not even in my thread?
How is this survivor biased when I'm basically talking shite about other survivors and not saying one bad thing about killers, let alone the perk itself?
Why bring up totem counters when I never did?
Those things being mentioned in other NO ED threads is irrelevant. Irrelevant =/= Non existent. Again, I never said or implied what you were saying above isn't true. I simply said it is irrelevant.
I'll just assume you've had a bad day and you can assume I've had one - As I've said though..
No my day's been fine. Made some birria and it came out pretty well and I'm satisfied with it.
You can't just go comparing one thing to another either because one game mechanic does not =/= another. A good example is when you brought up breakable walls in your OP. If you feel you can't handle it turn off chat, ignore the forums and enjoy time to yourself or with friends. There's no hidden meaning behind that either I'm genuine when I say that.
It wasn't about being a personal slight, and it also wasn't to say that everyone who says "just do bones" means it this way, but in my other discussions about this topic and observing past ones, I saw many people saying "just do bones" or something of those lines pointing to individual blame. It's not about being offended or whatever but I think when people say it in that manner it is lacking nuance.
I've not been on this forum long, and I've seen already the same topics over again. DS bad, swf bad, comms bad, survivor bad, killer bad, so on. People complain about the same stuff over and over again on this game and this forum isn't an exception, so I don't know why NO ED is of special interest to the repetition.
The comparison was for an analogy, and comparing isn't equivalent to equating. The analogy was to point out how, especially alone, doing totems is not always that simple without some sort of cost.
I did not make this topic over being offended about someone saying this to me. I can't remember how long ago it was, but it's been a while, and I didn't even think about that until reading this tidbit from you. I simply wanted to talk about it for potential clarification, but primarily for a mind dump since it made no sense to me. I don't like saying this simply because I don't like using it as an excuse or whatever but I do have autism and so the way you interpreted what I wrote is likely very different than how I did for potentially that reason, maybe others.
I do appreciate the kind words though. Also I will clarify with my response to Nossy I was wrong on what I said and I stand corrected on that, and I apologise that I was too aggressive earlier. I sometimes get carried away with my internet warrior face.

I see; it is so appropriate that you would cry off when the gauntlet is thrown down, here in a thread about taking the coward's way out. I remember everything I read; it is both a blessing and a curse. In that other thread, where you also behave poorly, you claimed to be a Red Rank Player. I'm giving you a chance to prove it. And now you claim to "magically" not take the game that seriously. Do you think that fools any of us? You took it seriously enough to be boring and argue with people for post after post when they were trying to help you. Me, I do take the game seriously. I take everything I do seriously. I suppose that is a fundamental difference between us.
To answer your earlier question, although I don't expect you to understand this either, there are only three things you need to do to meet the minimum of being a good sport in Dead by Daylight; they are:
- Don't cheat, either by hacks or lag spikes.
- Finish your games, i.e. don't disconnect or suicide on the hook.
- Be humble in victory, and gracious in defeat, i.e. no salt in end game chatter.
That's it. If you feel these three simple things are too hard for you to manage, why are you here playing Dead by Daylight, i.e. the game you "claim" to not take seriously? Why did you take the time to create an account over here on the Forum and assail us with your nonsense? Why claim to be a Red Rank when most of us can tell exactly where you are by what you talk about? And last but not least, when given a chance to prove your mettle, why are you looking for an out? You don't actually have to answer these questions; we know everything about you already. They are rhetorical. But it is time for you to either put up, or shut up as the old saying goes. Are you ready to put some skin in the game and prove your credentials?
Oh boy this is too good.
No one's backing down, I'm just not taking you seriously
I don't even know who you are and you've become so riled up because I disagreed with your opinion and trying to 1v1 me in a game as if this is some honour duel.
I play the game how I want, and I want to improve in various aspects of it. Not sure how bringing that up is a point or anything.
Also, my saying "...and I thought I took it seriously" is meant to highlight that I overestimated how serious I was compared to other people, not that I did not take the game seriously in any respects.
I don't care enough about you to go out of my way to try and validate myself to some ape trying to intimidate me over the internet, particularly one that's being irate and wacky. As I said before since you've deep dived into my posts, you can dig for the screenshots of when I actually did post it.
I actually would've liked continuing the topic at hand but I'm not really interested in arguing with someone being so loony.
Also, I'll continue talking about what I want, and you can die mad about it since it bothers you so much that you follow my posts like some lonely puppy. I hope you continue with it.
I can't believe someone is asking to 1v1 cowshed unironically LMFAO

Heh. If you don't know or understand good versus bad sportsmanship, nobody can teach them to you now. You make me laugh; there is literally nothing I can say which makes you look worse than you do yourself. Please go on, with every post here and in those other threads you are doing a bang up job. Or, if you like, we can arrange a custom game and let people come spectate and you can demonstrate how good a Player you are... I recall you claiming to be in the Red Ranks. What say you prove it?
Oof, and I thought I took the game seriously.
I'm not familiar with who you are but you seem to keep a track record of my posts. I posted screenshots somewhere of my ranks, you can dig through it yourself since you seem to be so interested in me.
I'm hoping this is sarcasm because if not this is pure comedy

What a shock; you are one of those people who doesn't care a fig about your teammates and will abandon them at the drop of a hat if "you" aren't having enough fun. It is kind of funny hearing you be honest, admitting that you feel NO OBLIGATION to be a GOOD teammate, quoting your own words there. Yes, I'm the one who sounds entitled and selfish by expecting you to honor the basic obligations of good sportsmanship. I'm so unreasonable like that. :)
Basic obligations of good sportsmanship?
Can you reference me a source of what that is and giving me some facts about how everyone is meant to abide by these rules?

It is a game that four other people besides yourself signed in to play with the expectation that you would be finishing the match. I'm old and been around the block. I've found there is a direct correlation to how people behave in "games" and how they behave in the real world. If people don't actually want to play the game, they shouldn't sign in in the first place.
This game is meant for fun. For whatever reason someone decides if they don't want to stay in said game, they can do what they want. They are under no obligation to be a good teammate as they are playing the game for themselves and their own entertainment, particularly solo queue.
This notion that players have to follow some sort of ethics strikes me as being entitled that you're almost mandating people play in a certain way. People play this game how they want, especially in solo queue.
You're being dramatic by calling someone a coward for not wanting to play a trial that you want them to.
You can have your opinion but not really sure why you're trying to be dogmatic and superimpose your morality onto others. Nothing you said is convincing enough to be anywhere close to objective.
You do not learn from every game. Not every game is beneficial. You are under no obligation to do anything in this game for the sake of others if you don't want to.
People who try to push morals on this game are the worst.

"Do bones" is not for one person but all 4 survivors to do. that is the fallacy you and others have. the TEAM needs to do bones and it's quick. hey ran past a totem, take 12 seconds to drop it and then you're on the gen right next to it. 4 people do this only one other totem needs be done and it'll be fine. what you see as lazy is actually lazy mental processing of what is needed because the term "Just Do Bones" is directed at the 4 person survivor team not you....
That's precisely my point. And what I said here:
The conversation is not about should NO ED be changed. It's about the sassy response of "just do totems" when it's not always, and often not that simple, particularly in solo queue. The response in and of itself is not inherently sassy but when people complain about NO ED and whatnot and get mocked at as if it's their individual fault not all five totems were done when it's meant to be a team experience, and it's often not. That's my point.
To clarify, when I said "...and it's often not", I meant in regards to doing totems is not a team experience when there's only one person predominately doing them, at least in my experience. Not that doing totems in general is not supposed to be a team experience.

Survivors have like 3 or 4 perks that make NOED a none issue. Instead of using the perks, they choose to take the second chance perks.
tbh you don't even need perks honestly. I only find people are a little more incentivised to do totems if there's a hex before the gens are done, particularly if it's ruin

I use inner strength all the time one of my favorite perks out there. Deliverance is hard for me to use cause I get chased first a lot of the times, and I don't like unbreakable cause I don't get much use out if when I use it tbh
Your concerns are understandable
My build at the moment is iron will/windows of opportunity, borrowed, kindred, and sprint burst
you can swap out kindred for bond,m and sprint burst for any exhaustion perk of your choice (that's not head on!)
-
don't tell me what to ######### do while i urban evade in a corner
-
What is mandatory: Bond or Kindred
Bond: have information as to where your teammates are, and in chase to not bring the killer to your teammates accidentally
Kindred: to make sure someone is being saved and to better plan what you are doing and if you need to go for a save instead of assuming
The three perks are your choice. Depends on your playstyle. I'd experiment to see what you like
I will recommend though, try to be as independent as possible, particularly with healing. I would recommend self care/inner strength (particularly the latter). That's also why perks like Unbreakable, Deliverance, etc. are useful as well to an extent

DS is abuseable. Thats why its getting nerfed. The only ones who are complaining about this nerf are bad survivors who relied on it as a crutch and abused it. Not even in the same ball park as destroying dull totems in preparation for NOED. If you want to focus gens and dive bombing your teammates for easy points, you do that. But if you get to end-game and NOED pops up, you have no one to blame but yourself as well as your teammates.
Hell, there's been plenty of games where NOED has popped on my team, while 1 person gets hooked, and the 3 of us remaining go back in despite being right at the Exit gates, to find the totem and possibly save the teammate.
Doing dull totems throughout an entire match vs complaining about DS, a broken perk that people loved to abuse, particularly in SWF, are not the same.
I don't think you understood the analogy. And you're misinterpreting. Comparing =/= equating.
Your post was basically "if I can do it and you can't then you're entitled/lazy/dumb" and I can say the same about anything else, and I chose DS as an example. DS is a non issue for me in red ranks. Other perks are however, DS isn't one of them.
-
@Volcz said:
Damn this title is ironic.
No dude, the people who refuse to do totems and complain about NOED are lazy & dumb. I'm a solo survivor main and if I can find the time to focus hexes/dull totems, you can too. You're either entitled af, lazy or dumb. Take your pick. Do the totems and then you won't have to worry as much, at least you'll know you did what you could to nullify NOED.
At lower ranks, yea I'd say its a lot harder to counter NOED. At high ranks (red), you have no excuse.
Gotcha, then I'll also call the people who complain about DS and get pissed off because of it lazy, dumb, and entitled because when I play in red ranks I never have an issue with it and I can easily avoid it. If I can avoid it, everyone else can too and they shouldn't have a problem because I said so and my experience superimposes everyone else's.

I don't care that it's repeated, I just meant (in a really weird way) you shouldn't expect to get more people on your side of the argument when you aren't bringing any new information to the table. Repeating the same information isn't going to get you anywhere.
You were being quite snippy, and for no good reason.
I don't care how many times you've seen it. Topics are repeated all the time on this forum and in the community in general. I'm going to talk about what I feel like and if you don't like it then move on. You didn't do that and instead tried to be patronising and catty, meanwhile failing to realise your irony of complaining about complaining.
What you initially said isn't indicative of your supposed point in the slightest. Either way, the conversation wasn't about getting people on my side, it was more of a brain dump and then discuss.
-
@Dustin said:
Your response isn't really rebutting or sharing new information either, as I basically already stated survivor teammates in solo queue are a very large part of the problem.
To be honest same goes for you - Nothing new is being said and that's why I mentioned the first part of my post. Nothing new is being discussed and I'm giving it to you straight.
To clarify
First part of my post addresses the mentality you made the thread with
Second part addresses and summarizes the actual context of your post.
In fact I'll quote @Moundshroud above
I probably should just say "Do Bones" whenever I see posts like yours, because wasting time on explaining it to some of you is very frustrating. Why? You made your decision before you even wrote your post. You are looking for excuses. I hate to say this, because I'd rather think the best of everyone, but you are arguing with us simply because you are being willfully ignorant.
If this wasn't the intention I'll be honest with you that's the immediate impression I got from your thread. Which is again why the first part of my post is there otherwise it would have just been the second paragraph with possibly more parts to it.
Similar logic of "just do bones" can be applied to killers have ire about DS. I can simply say "just wait 60 seconds" or "eat the ds so they don't have it anymore". That's technically the solution to DS as killer, just as "just do bones" is to survivor, but as we can very clearly see the conversation around DS was more nuanced than that because it actually is simple as "wait 60 seconds or eat ds" in every single game.
Yeah? So what's the problem. If you suspect they have Decisive Strike then wait the 60 seconds?
The real issue with Decisive Strike wasn't even 60 seconds of no hooking it was the fact that the perk was far more abuseable when BHVR is intending for it to be an anti tunneling perk. If you're doing objectives you're not getting tunneled but some survivors will use this to make sure the killer can't build up momentum. Do I see it as fair strategy? Yes. However I feel you don't fully understand the difference between those two perks.
With NOED you can prevent it from activating in the first place.
With Decisive Strike you have to constantly respect that a survivor may have the perk unless there are no obsessions. You could argue that in a way it's easier to play around this way compared to NOED which has no tell but again you can generally tell based on what killer is being played and how they're playing. This comes with experience.
The better comparison was recently Pop Goes The Weasel's timer was nerfed because killers had too much time to do other things and still use it when that's been the issue with DS this whole time.
See unlike a lot of people I have no issue playing around perks or the idea that they may be in the game. It's just understanding the current meta as stale as it is and knowing the game. This is really a black and white issue of -
Do totems - If that's not working likely your team or yourself isn't pulling enough weight.
The response isn't new because I'm simply stating you're not bringing in any new information and reiterating what I said. You responded to my thread initially with a mix of irrelevant information and then paraphrased information of what I already said, and bringing no new discussion points.
Saying "Do Bones" is just a way to finally admit - Look, I'm tired of having this conversation about NOED. The conversation never goes anywhere and the most insightful topic about NOED has been the debate on whether BHVR should add a Totem Counter. Then that leads to should Dull Totems do something else and the conversation dies there. Every other topic about NOED is usually just a survivor biased player complaining that the killer utilized a perk in the roster when you can shut the perk down relatively easily and play around it. The only thing that usually makes this perk excel is when a survivor lacks map knowledge (Totem Spawns) or doesn't assume the killer might have an ace in the hole for later in this case being NOED.
First of all, you aren't in any place to tell me what my intentions are for making the thread. Let's discuss the rest:
- You being tired of the conversation is irrelevant
- Your opinion of "it doesn't go anywhere" of other NO ED topics is irrelevant
- bringing up totem counter when I never talked about that
- bringing up other alternatives to what dull totems to do which I never talked about that
- brought up "survivor bias" when I never blamed killer players for anything and I purely blamed survivors
So what are you on mate? You judged erroneously based on past NO ED topics.
If this wasn't the intention I'll be honest with you that's the immediate impression I got from your thread. Which is again why the first part of my post is there otherwise it would have just been the second paragraph with possibly more parts to it.
Let's see here: you co-sign a post calling me ignorant but yet you lot did nothing but reiterate what I already said. Interesting.
Also not sure what excuses you're talking about...? What I wrote is pretty simple but it seems like you lot are having a hard time understanding, and you're superimposing irrelevant information for whatever reason
You talk about me not understanding what the perks are, yet you are slapping BS about DS. Devs never said it was intended to be anti-tunnel:
https://i.imgur.com/q3Qieuz.pngMind you, this was in response to a thread titled: "Have the devs confirmed ds is supposed to be a "anti tunnel perk"?"
I made my point simple, and you lot are talking about something else that's pretty irrelevant and I'm about done trying to parse through it since my point is pretty easy to understand. I will requote what I said as a summary of the general topic:
The conversation is not about should NO ED be changed. It's about the sassy response of "just do totems" when it's not always, and often not that simple, particularly in solo queue. The response in and of itself is not inherently sassy but when people complain about NO ED and whatnot and get mocked at as if it's their individual fault not all five totems were done when it's meant to be a team experience, and it's often not. That's my point.

Heh. I know you don't get the significance of why I cited it, but then again you are still relatively new. To get truly good at Killer or Survivor you have to play BOTH. You have to see the maps and objectives from both perspectives, and Totems in particular require this context to understand them. And when I say you have to play both, I mean you have to play both for extended periods of time. This isn't a game where things come natural. You have to pay your dues, and learn your lessons. There is no way around it, period.
I want to point out, again, that everything you said back to me illustrates SURVIVOR problems, not issues with Totems. Bad teammates are just that, bad. It isn't game design flaw. It is the game. This is a 4v1 challenge, and you are only as good as your weakest link. You either:
- Start playing in a SWF to make use of their 5th Perk (Comms)
- Or you keep playing until your few, proud Solos get to the point where they are worth something.
For the record, GOOD Solos are amazing, and often far better than SWF Players who got to where they are carried on the backs of others. It is about paying those dues. The best loopers, evaders, aggro-style manipulators, and so on all come from the crucible of the Solo Que. Some of them may play in SWF from time to time, but they cut their teeth the hard way. I play Solo most games because it is harder, and I want to get better. When I play with my friends, it is fun and all, but I don't improve. I only get better at information management, not actual applied skills. Do you follow?
In the end, everything I'm telling you is moot if you don't WANT to hear it. You will either accept this is the game, adapt, and fight the good fight or you won't. There is no magic bullet. The DEV aren't going to fix it because it isn't broken. The nature of this game is the 4v1 and the strength of the Survivors is also potentially their greatest weakness. You have stated it in your own words, clearly illustrating the failure is on the part of Survivors in the matches that trouble you. Do you see my point?
Your condescension is boring. I don't even know you either but yet you're acting like you do. The way people try to act elitist on this game is...something.
My topic isn't founded on being a totem problem in the slightest. Yes, very obviously I wrote the issue with totems is from other survivors, not on the mechanics of how totems work. That changes nothing about what I said.
Elaborate to me where I said it was totem issues? The only thing that comes close to that is totem glitches, which are rare, and that was far from being my central point, and it's an irrelevant addition.
I also never said totems need to be reworked or anything. Never said the devs need to fix it either.
You're trying to make this hard-to-swallow advice but you're doing nothing but reiterating what I said and then slapping a "this is going to be difficult for you" vibe to it, which is a bit pretentious.
People still are not understanding the prime topic at hand. I'll requote myself:
The conversation is not about should NO ED be changed. It's about the sassy response of "just do totems" when it's not always, and often not that simple, particularly in solo queue. The response in and of itself is not inherently sassy but when people complain about NO ED and whatnot and get mocked at as if it's their individual fault not all five totems were done when it's meant to be a team experience, and it's often not. That's my point.
I'm used to solo queue teammates being trite. There's nothing to adapt to. Doesn't mean I can't complain about it.

I did read the topic but I assessed it as the following
- You don't like that NOED forces you to waste time looking for totems when they are potentially cleansed or not already
- You're not even sure if the killer has NOED
- You feel it uses too much time just in general
Is that a correct assessment?
If so then that's why I basically stated
- It's a survivor problem due to lack of experience whether it be the person looking for totems or someone who should be distracting the killer for you to properly search for totems.
Would you say this is correct?
To address one thing - Not being sure if the killer even has NOED. How should you be sure about any of their perks? You generally have to figure it out based on how the killer plays. For example Blood Warden, HEX: Devour Hope, Pop Goes The Weasel and Nurse's Calling are a few examples of perks that you shouldn't know exist but you can generally figure out a killer has them based on how they play and through process of elimination on other likely perks. I feel this isn't a problem granted of all the perks I will give you this - NOED is the most exhausting to deal with when it turns out the killer didn't have it.
In fact here I'll give you a bigger tl;dr
This is a survivor issue - If it isn't you it's the weak link on your team or someone else being useless. You could very much say yes the solo survivor issue you stated is correct but ultimately I've played enough that this can be an issue in SWF's as well. Not every SWF is a tryhard squad and they have weak links too.
Oversimplification, and not my point.
I highlighted how even when memorising totem spawns, you are still not doing the foremost objective: doing generators. You are giving the killer free pressure for a perk they may or may not have.
Survivors do not do totems either in my experience. Having to manually check each totem is wasting even more time as you don't know how many totems were done in solo queue.
Your response isn't really rebutting or sharing new information either, as I basically already stated survivor teammates in solo queue are a very large part of the problem. There was no discussion about NO ED as a perk, and I'm not sure why you brought that up in your first response.
Lastly, my point about "not sure if they have it or not" is that it's wasting time for something that should be a simple team effort, but often is not. It's not a complaint about not knowing the killer's perks. Sometimes it's easy to tell if a killer has NO ED or not, and sometimes when I presume a killer has NO ED, they actually don't.
The point is simply to highlight how "just do totems" is not that simple when you are often in contact with teammates who never do them and you are pretty much subjected to doing almost all of them if not all yourself, on top of having to do every other objective like save/heal/do generators and strategise. Because if "just do totems" is going to be infantilised to such a degree then I'm going to pretty much just say "wait 60 seconds" to anyone who complains about DS because the counter is easy on paper.

@Moundshroud said:
No, no it does not, lack nuance that is. I play both Killer and Survivor, and better than 90% of my Survivor play is in the Solo que. There are only five Totems, and four Survivors. Every Survivor spots between 1-3 Totems as they move about the map. If they take a break from self-caring or urban evading about, they can spend the 16 seconds to cleanse at least one. This basic, commonsense behavior doesn't require the communication of the SWF's 5th Perk (Comms) to complete.
Can SWF do it easier? Sure, they can do everything easier, but that doesn't change the fact that Solo can manage it just fine. The reason there isn't more nuance in the solution/advice you are being given is because there are no other nuances that matter. You either do Bones or you don't. It is a gamble; you may profit from cutting them out of your time resources, or you might pay a heavy price. That is the same gamble a Killer takes when they bet one of their Perk slots on something that might be gone in the first twenty seconds of the game.
I don't get what significance you citing playing both sides has...it's irrelevant for the most part.
The problem with your solution is that many people in solo queue don't bother doing totems, even in red ranks. I used to run detective's hunch/small game as my general build and 90% of the time I was the only one doing at least 3/5 totems and most of the time all 5, and I typically did not do them fast, either.
The issue isn't so much the words behind "just do bones" but the sass behind it. It lacks context of actually playing the game, because playing solo queue everyone can witness the lack of quality of teammates. If they suck in looping, aren't efficient on gens, and do dumb saves and whatnot, what suddenly is going to compel them to do totems? Right: nothing. They should know, but they don't, so your explanation is hypothetical and not actually realistic. If it was realistic, undying+ruin would be a non issue as totems could be knocked out relatively fast.
I can easily say to someone who doesn't like DS "just wait 60 seconds" because that genuinely is the counter. But there's obviously more nuance behind the annoyance of DS, and similar in this instance.
@Dustin said:
Personally, I have all totem spawns memorized - Yes I actually do. On occasion a rare spot surprises me but I usually have all totems cleansed by the time the 3rd or 4th generator is done. Doing totems is just understanding a balance of map movement, when you need to hop on a generator and when you need to do a totem. From experience the real problem is a lack of time because some survivors have zero idea how to run the killer. The weak link on your team is usually why NOED gets utilized not because totems are hard to find. If a survivor goes down under normal circumstances in under 30 seconds for example they have pretty much likely cost your entire team the game. To me this is a survivor issue not a perk issue.
I don't see what past NO ED discussions have on my topic.
I'm not sure if you actually read my OP because I already discussed what you talk about. Memorising totem spawns help, but that doesn't alleviate the problem of solo queue that people very often do not do totems, hence why undying was such an issue. Not doing generators is giving the killer free pressure. On top of that, memorising totem spawns isn't precise; they can spawn in a variety of areas, especially on some maps that have multi-levels.
Also again, you seemed to actually have not read what I said, because if you did I did not discuss about the perk needing to be removed or whatever. It was talking about how in solo queue people do not do generators and as a result you (the player who actually cares about totems) trying to do them gets punished as a result (giving the killer free pressure).
Like thanks for the response but if you're actually going to engage in the conversation I would appreciate actually reading the subject. You pretty much reiterated a lot of what I already said and it's not a rebuttal to anything I said in actuality. Like you talk about it being a survivor issue and if you actually read what I said...I pretty much exclusively talk about survivors making it worse, not talking about how the perk functions itself.
Really wonky people are giving thumbs up to responses that show the person didn't read more than two sentences of my op lol

I chose those two because I fell you would get comfortable with having them on. If I have tinkerer on I won’t have to patrol gens as much since it will tell me. If I have spine chill I don’t have to keep an eye out anymore. You can get used to this and then really struggle to take them off
I don't see how that's a problem though, and I don't see how it's anymore skillful to have to roam around the map having to assume where people are. There is no amount of game sense that will tell you precisely or predominately correctly in a guess where people are at all times.
Some perks can be crutches depending on how they are used by the player as opposed to outright being crutches regardless of context. But either way people have certain playstyles and subsequently they are going to be used to certain perks. This is a game and not a tournament, and perks can help make the game more enjoyable. I would not play killer without information perks because I don't like having to guess where people are. Same reason I don't play solo queue without Kindred -- there is no amount of game sense that is going to tell me if someone is being saved or not without me actually being able to see it.

The worst part about swamp is the fat shaming spots.
-
Midwich in general isn't survivor sided. A lot of the pallets are unsafe and there are barely any vaults. The long hallways especially for some killers make survivors easy targets, but the resources survivors have on midwich are terrible. The map is generally killer sided as a result since survivor's only good defence are like three good pallets.
I would say Red Forest or Coldwind
-
Dead Hard is the only survivor perk that makes me MALD
When used right it is basically a free health state
-
@Phasmamain said:
Yes there are some perks that will become a crutch if you use them too much
Survivor examples would be: Dead hard and spine chill
Kilker examples: Noed and tinkerer
I don't think information perks are crutches, and that goes for both sides, so I don't see how Tinkerer is a crutch perk. Spine Chill predominately acts as an information perk, and second-most as a vaulting perk
You can argue on the killer's side regression perks like Corrupt, Pop, Ruin, are crutch perks as killers often rely on these to win games
Every perk by definition is a crutch perk. It has some sort of value to you, whether it be for meme purposes or for useful purposes. But they serve some sort of purpose to you throughout the game and subsequently are crutches. Going perkless and add-onless is the only way to not have a crutch.

I didn't say that i was correct. It's just how i play. I just don't wanna break my controller over getting tunneled.
I wasn't referring to you being correct, but what you stated. I just don't really get the whole "don't care/don't take it seriously" advice. If you didn't care, you wouldn't be playing. If you don't take it seriously, then you wouldn't be playing well. And at that point you'd have to ask the question why play if you take it neither seriously nor care about it.
For example, I do not like Game of Thrones. Watched one episode of it and found it to be a drag and have not given a ######### about it since. I do not care about it and subsequently I do not engage with it.
The advice that should be given is don't take the game personally, such as when you get tunnelled/facecamped whatever. Otherwise playing the game by default makes you care, and trying to play well--even to a degree of mastery where you can do it by muscle memory with a lot less effort--is still taking it seriously

Demi is a pretty good dbd youtuber. He also got a degree in psychology so he's got some good advice on how to have the right gamer mindset. Check out his survivor guide video. It has a small instance on what you should do if you know you're getting whooped and need to know how to handle it. At least... from what i can remember.
I've watched that video and the "mindset" advice he gives isn't very good. If you don't care then you wouldn't be playing the game. You wouldn't be trying to play well either. So the whole "don't take it seriously"/"don't care" mindset basically in reality surmounts to "don't play the game" because actually playing it, particularly trying to play it well, is taking it seriously and caring about the game.
Having a degree does not make you an authority of something nor does it make you "correct" so I'm not sure why that was even cited when all he gave was reddit-tier tips
-
"abuse" is using anything that's used against you in a way you dislike, but objectively not problematic when compared to other things
Nurse fatigue cancel
ds locker
dead harding over traps
using pig, wraith, ghostface, and insiduous' stealth to deny borrowed time
using dpi change to make swings and curves that you otherwise wouldn't
using stretched res to mimic shadowborn
etc
It's used in a way that "toxic" and "bullying" are, to describe anything a person does not like. It typically holds no substance in an argument

I would put it in the BM category but it might also be strategic to finish a heal or if you got an entire build dedicated to get an extremely fast heal off.
@Shirokinukatsukami said:
No that's a tactical option. And an efficient one at that.
During chase survivor should always be looking at killer as much as they can. Also in chase there are points on tiles where you have to wait to see what the killer is doing, so you can react and mindgame them or otherwise get the better of them and extend the chase further or even juke the killer.
At those junctions instead of just twiddling your thumbs you can selfcare or use a medkit so you aren't waisting your time. It's not done to BM it's done for the sake of efficiency. If you wanted to BM you have better options, like teabagging.
If the chase lasts long enough (not likely unless the killer is an absolute newb) you might beable to heal yourself entirely doing this. More likely you win the chase and killer gives up or you juke the killer, and now you can heal up to full while saving some precious seconds.
@Yords said:
Things like pointing at the killer, telling the killer to come here, tbagging, and flashlight clicking are BM. I don't think healing in front of the killer in a chase is BM.
@NoelleMina said:
No, not really. If all they’re doing is trying to survive, then I personally don’t consider it BM.
Teabagging, pointing, flashlight clicking, etc is what can get Survivors killed. It literally does nothing but slow them down, annoy the Killer, and waste their item.
Those make sense, and I have seen that a little bit, but mostly when survivors are healing in front of me it's after a pallet stun, and instead of gaining distance they will heal on the other side of the pallet and only run after I am in animation to kick it
@Raz_ said:
everything is a BM in dbd.
Optimal play is considered as toxic and bm always.
if you do a gen infront of the killer but he decides to chase the survivor he is chasing already for 2 minutes instead of pressuring you of the gen then its his incompetence. the only bm here is that killer is not pressuring you off the gen to get a more interesting match.
chasing a survivor for 5 minutes and facecamping him is more important yknow?
so dont bother even thinking about "BM" in dbd. at some point everything is toxic for the killer.
It's not a bother to me; many times I find it funny, but I was just wondering out of curiosity.

This "This is a 1v4"-argument is always flawed, because while it is true, you cannot just ignore the 1v1. The 1v1-aspect is important as well.
And honestly, with the quality of Survivors, some games feel like a 1v3 or 3v2 sometimes.
People also need to consider that especially in solo queue it's not 1v4 in the regards that you're actually participating in cohesive and functional teamwork. In solo queue you are still playing for yourself, and when you are interaction with the killer it's 1v1. You have no idea what the others are thinking and can't strategise and plan with them so you have to play for yourself and follow your own strategies.

Lets see.
- Teabaging after a stun
- Flashlight blinding after a pallets stun and break knowing a killer can't counter it
- Teabaging at an exit gate instead of just leaving.
- saving people right in front of you knowing that they have BT, DS, and UB in the same build
- Gen rushing for no reason
- making the same sound alert over and over again to annoy a killer.
You're argument is very once sided, Killers are the bullies but anything survivors do is okay.
How about you try playing as a killer for a while and you'll see what I mean. Knowing you're going to win because of what your running and treating a killer like a joke is bullying in my opinion, the less said about end game chats the better.
I'm going to take this response as trolling, particularly after reading in particular:
- saving people right in front of you knowing that they have BT, DS, and UB in the same build
- Gen rushing for no reason
- Flashlight blinding after a pallets stun and break knowing a killer can't counter it
Can't take any of that seriously, and not interested in continuing talking with you either, but I'll take it that you'll mention me or whatever if you want to get some sort of comeback out
-
Keys need a complete rework. Moris only needed one value changed. It's not far-fetched to also say the way hatch works also will get a rework, so it's not as simple as you lot are making it out to be.
I personally think hatch should have an animation, like opening a chest, and it should take a certain amount of time to open it. The killer should also get a loud notification (as if you were vaulting etc) if you are opening it under certain conditions, such as within their terror radius. Or maybe if you are opening it with a key they can hear the hatch from a greater distance and have an easier time tracking it, and if a survivor is opening the hatch in the terror radius then it takes significantly longer to open the hatch.

look I get what you are saying but ds is an issue that needs to be fixed. I don't think any killer underestimates the power of slugging it's just they can't due to a few reasons
- they get called a filthy slugger
- unbreakable is definitely worth discussing due to removing the power to slug and I get what you mean the fact it is only 1 use is a big downside but that is still one more second chance you wouldn't get and the extra speed is quite helpful and when combined with ds (which it is most of the time) it becomes even better
- swfs can just coordinate and get gens done
and don't say that ds is used for tunnelling I have been hit by it many more times by an offensive use than defensive.
I don't think killers care that there is an anti tunnelling perk in the game its the fact that most of the time they are hit by it they weren't tunnelling
but I do agree with you yes some people tunnel but most don't
we all want to have fun and I feel like the perk in its current state is a problem for the health of the game
- and? who cares what people call you? Survivors get called out for having a "small pp build" if they have anything a killer doesn't like and makes them hard to down/kill
- "not worth discussing" was in reference to soul guard, not unbreakable. Yes, an unbreakable can cost you a game, but I don't really see the issue there. Are survivors just meant to stay on the ground because the killer wants them to? When unbreakable is used against me I don't get mad at it, particularly because the lot of people waste it anyway. As the other poster said, if a ds (and similarly, unbreakable) cost me to lose a game then I was losing before it was even in use.
- swfs are gonna do that without ds
It's fine to have your opinions but I heavily disagree that DS is as problematic as people make it out to be. DS is very much a non-issue in terms of it "costing" me games
I don't believe devs have ever said DS is an anti-tunnelling perk, so people bringing that up is a moot point. I also don't see what's wrong with survivors having a trump card either. I play both sides and I don't even like using DS but the way killers play when you don't have an obsession demands me to run it, particularly in solo queue. And sorry I don't want to be put back on hook within <60 seconds of getting off of it. Don't care if you're tunnelling or not.
Likewise I run undying and ruin because I don't want gens to fly, especially in red ranks.
I have plenty of fun playing killer and the things that annoy me playing killer does not include DS. So I can't empathise with you. I think people give DS more power than it actually has and subsequently blow it out of proportion.
-
@KolbyKolbyKolby said:
I don't need to play killer more, I have more games on killer than survivor, DS is still fine imo. The only times DS has cost me a game was in a game I was already losing.
watch out before you get called survivor biased because you said something against killer dogma
i think ds is fine the way it is, people just get mad they can't tunnel as easily as they could
other perks are more problematic, ds is largely a non-issue, particularly because 99% of people who use it don't use it well
people also underestimate the power of slugging. simply because someone is on a hook doesn't mean the end of the world nor is it a bad thing. that's 1 person not doing objectives and then a 2nd who has to come heal them
if they have unbreakable, they only get to use it once, with the exception of soul guard and that perk is so situational it's not worth discussing. i also agree, the times where DS has lost me a game were when I was already going to lose

Yea, I would take out the survivor aura reading.
How do you feel about if there is a generator being worked on by a Visionary user and that generator reaches, say, 70%, any survivor within a certain range (let's say 32 metres) gets a loud notification/has the aura of the generator revealed, as long as the Visionary user is on it?
It can somewhat be like a survivor version of Tinkerer
-
If Visionary showed the progression of generators via aura intensity then it would be an actually viable perk to run. I know i'd run it. I would exclude it showing survivor auras because it could negate ones like Bond and so on.

I'm on ps4/xbox one do these people have to go out of their way to message me. I could understand if I was on pc and it was end game char stuff since it's right there but to click my name, go to the message screen and type out a whiny message blaming me for their poor play is ridiculous. Like I said, used to every now and then I'd get sent one but it's literally after every match lately.
Would 100% recommend putting your profile as private
The way I think about it is like this. Do you want to be reading shite like that? If you don't then put it as private. It may seem like you're letting them "win" but it's cutting out a problem before it even starts, which is bringing negativity into your life by a bunch of anonymous troglodytes trying to bring you down.
I understand the toxicity you're talking about. I've tried playing with SWFs in the discord as of late since my friends haven't been playing recently and solo queue survivor is hell, and in each group there was always one guy who went BALLISTIC. I don't mean just being bitchy like "oh you camped/tunnelled/slugged" or whatever, but legitimately would damn the killer to hell, telling them to repeatedly kill themselves how they're the worst pieces of shite on earth. I was taken aback.
Don't give these guys access to your time and attention, because you'll be reading whatever messages you get.
-
Are you console? I play killer on PC and I don't really get sent messages in an inbox. Or could you be referring to comments on your steam profile? If so I would recommend putting that as private
In regards to my experiences, since my profile was private from pretty much day one on DBD I very much minimised the toxicity in regards to messages. When I play killer I turn off end-game chat as a rule, with some exceptions like if I had a question for someone. As survivor sometimes I'm curious and I do get toxicity from both other survivors and other killers. From what I saw when my end-game chat was active as killer, it is a similar tune.
Maybe just my experience but I get a lot of bitchy PC killers in end-game chat when I play survivor who sometimes go out of their way to be toxic. Like if it's a legitimately good game and they get a 4k they'll go out of their way to BM and say GG ez or insult the survivors. I remember once a killer was calling my friends and I trash and accused us of trying to bully him because my friend got one flashlight save. one. we don't teabag or anything, and he still got a 4k. we said gg wp before he went off on a tangent about being mad about the flashlight save and calling us losers and whatnot. So I don't really get this mentality that killers are beyond reproach and can't be toxic or as toxic.
From my general observation, survivor toxicity is mostly in messages. Killer toxicity is mostly in game, such as facecamping.

When you said killers are the only ones who can bully, you showed your bias. I have seen both sides do a good job of bullying, killers AND survivors. So tell me again how I'm killer biased.
Talking about one side =/= bias. I have plenty of opinions that are one-sided, such as I think people who play killer are more subject to verbal (?)/text-chat abuse than people who play survivor, which would mean I'm killer sided now? Or am I not biased until you try to discredit me? Bias doesn't negate anyone's opinion and your criteria for assessing bias is both flawed and illogical. Stop using fallacies.
You also didn't catch the sarcasm I did in my last response, which was mocking what you said, and wasn't said seriously, and I made that relatively obvious
People keep saying survivors can bully but where is it? What can survivors do that prevents the killer from playing the game, and particularly without throwing the game themselves? Closest thing I can think of is an experienced survivor smurfing and I don't see that as bullying since in technicality it's not any different than, say, a rank 20 being randomly and erroneously paired with a red rank.

Don't really see how it's a SWF problem as solo players even do this, and sometimes intentionally de pip to do this if they don't do it on an alt account. The problem you're describing is called smurfing
Also your solution doesn't seem like it would work. All people would do is go on an alt account, which is easy to do since you can make another alt account and share your steam library with the alt account to get DBD for free on that account. You'd still be going up against red rank survivors but on covert smurfed-ranked accounts.
edit: Also your solution doesn't solve the problem of experienced players playing with their friends who are new to the game, as it's also not fair for those new players to be with red rank killers from the get go to learn the game. It goes both ways, but a solution should be had nonetheless

Survivors play the game to bully killers too, and then can ruin a killers experience very easily. saying killers are the only ones that can do that is both ignorance and stupidity
And what is bullying to you then? Because pretty much the most you can do is smurf and taunt killers with lower experience than them. Taunting isn't bullying to me as it's not affecting the gameplay of the other player.
Survivors have to go out of their way to do that and they end up throwing the game basically. Like a SWF trying to constantly head on a killer.

Wow....survivor bias much?
wow killer bias much?
See I can accuse people of bias too because I disagree with them

you love “that perk” meaning whispers
...you love using whispers while playing as killer?
understood. it’s fun.
you love when killers you play against use whispers? that doesn’t make much sense, tbh
OP was asking least favorite perks killers use when you’re facing them as survivor
I feel whispers is unnecessary like Spine Chill
just imo
As survivor I don't mind it, so I guess I feel indifferent about it since I don't feel negative about it or anything. But I do adore the perk, so I suppose it's a layover from my playing killer into survivor
In my experience any perk I tend to dislike on killer or survivor I stop liking less on the other party. For example Dead Hard as killer is the most annoying survivor perk to me in the game, and subsequently I developed a dislike for it as survivor and stopped using it even though it's historically my most-used exhaustion perk

remove basement
active for solo queue only (if you start a game with someone in a lobby, this feature is disabled for anyone in lobby): when someone is hooked, you are able to see where your other teammates are to coordinate saves for pub games, but if they are within a certain radius of a generator their auras are not shown for several seconds and their aura is entirely hidden if they are operating on a generator, and also aura blocked if they are in chase, to ensure that this doesn't become more abused
remove bloodlust
remove dead hard
for each hooked and/or downed survivor, exit gates are regressed by a certain percent, let's say 15% for each survivor
legion's power shouldn't cancel if they miss
allow console players to change graphic settings (low~ultra)
remove perk tiers and only have the "tier" be tier 3 at base
add a FOV slider
make spirit's breathing be heard in the direction she is phasing in for survivors and remove her ability to fake phase
add a noise for when deathslinger is aiming
allow people to try out different combinations of things in store to know if they want to buy something, like a hair from one set, a shirt from another, and bottoms from a third

Killers using Infectious and or Whispers can be a nuisance
Infectious I kind of get, but why Whispers? I love that perk personally
