This is an honest question to all killer mains out there. How do you justify playing as killers or using builds you hate to go against as a survivor? I don't play killer very much but whenever I do I always feel bad playing killers like that. I despise going against killers like legion and deathslinger with builds like ruin and undying, but find their gameplay really fun as a killer. As a survivor main I feel empathy for the survivors I play against and can almost feel the groans as I load in as legion or clown. So how do you guys deal with that feeling or what do you tell yourself to justify it, because I feel like i'm being contradictory when I do that.

Not a main of either side, but there is no need to justify playing as a killer. Without killers this game would just be a generator repair simulator.

Builds are irrelevant. There are survivor builds that killers don't like. It is a 2-way street. Your problems with Ruin and undying are in your head. You let it psyche you out rather than adapting to them. Legion is probably more annoying than scary. Clown is only scary in close chases. He really only annoys people that like to loops killers. That is their problem, for not adapting to the killer they are playing against. All killers have players that don't like playing against them. Trapper makes me groan, because I know that I will likely step in a trap. But, I know that's my problem, not theirs. I still haven't got good playing against Nurse or Spirit but, again, that is on me, not the killer.

As long as you aren't playing in a toxic way, don't worry about it. Most hate for killers comes from not knowing how to deal with them...or, in some cases, not wanting to change palystyles to counter a specific killer.

Just play, have fun, and don't be a toxic scumbag.

IMO what they should do is let you recycle offerings into BP; even if it's at a 20% rate, it would still be great for offerings I will never use, like mother's dwelling on Hag, Haddonsfield on killer, or those "hey your power now does nothing, but have extra BP" addons.

I have to agree. There are offerings that I will never use. It would be nice if we could trade them in for something more useful.

  • Not sure what you are getting at. If you were to literally be going against 2 killers, the survivors would get destroyed. It was just meant to be a unique killer design, and it is.

  • Mostly it is because far too many survivors still will try and go for the rescue, so the killer doesn't suffer for it. Your team is doing exactly what they should do. If all groups did that, most of the face camping would stop.

  • Not listening is not the same as "not implementing ALL the ideas". Of course they shouldn't implement every ridiculous thought that comes out of people's heads, but they should listen far more than they do, to the reasonable and well thought out suggestions.

  • Some survivors stay to give the killer extra hits and downs. I only do that if the killer is nearby and wants it, otherwise I leave. I am not the best looper, so a good killer is going to get hooks on me, so I usually don't offer them up. :p

The only time I gave hooks was during the Halloween event (2018 I think), when we had to collect the glowing liquid. I think killers collected it by hooking survivors, iirc. Most killers were good about letting us survivors fill our syringes, so it was only fair to return the favor.

That is your opinion. Forcing players who spend good money on this to indulge toxic players who can't play and straight facecamp / tunnel should award no punishment.

They should reward you if you decide to put up with those suckers instead of punishing you for doing what a normal person does, and just ditch the #########.

LOL I thought, from the OP, that it was an random internet disconnect. If you are disconnecting intentionally, you deserve the penalty. It due to people like you that the penalty exists.

Yeah, that's about all she needs to be balanced. Maybe also give her a bigger penalty for a bad read with some minor buffs, and then she's fixed.

They were talking past tense. It already happened. She already makes that noise. She is balanced.

  • I would say that it is fine to be more ruthless, but don't be toxic. Toxicity breeds toxicity. Don't spread it. You will be toxic to people just trying to have fun. There is no need for that.

  • Somewhere between $100-$150. I have not spent any in the last year though, and will not until they get the matchmaking and balance issues fixed.

  • Yeah, I know that some are being toxic, but most are just trying to farm points. I am not really a fan of either, and I don't like being forced to participate (as killer). If I am already near the gate I will humor them, but I will not run across the map to do it. I tried it a few times as survivor, and wasn't a fan. I'd rather just jump into the next queue. I don't want points that I didn't earn.

On a funny note, I once saw a survivor so intent on getting the killer to come and hit them that they forgot about the timer and got skewered at the gate.

  • @Mooks said:

For anyone saying lore wise it wouldn’t fit and in the books he is too powerful: they could just use the movie version, that one already exists and is clearly a different version than the original one from the book(s)

But then survivors could just teabag in front of him and he would wither.

  • Th devs really need to get hands on with dealing with the toxicity in the game. I don't see how they think that letting it continue to go on can be good for the game. Toxicity breeds toxicity, It spreads if left unchecked.

  • Nah, I still want my BP. :-p

Admittedly, the calls for nerfs to BBQ are ridiculous. Clearly made by people that are new to the game that don't know any better.

  • "The keys are very complex when you stop and think about it. Moris on the other hand were much more unbalanced and much stronger. Keys at least require the survivors to do generators."

They aren't that complex. And, no, Mori's are not much stronger and unbalanced. Survivors need to do gens, but the survivor with the key doesn't actually have to do any gens themselves. Killers have to find, chase, down and hook a survivor, usually multiple times, before they can Mori (I know there are exceptions).

  • This is fast match....sort of. The Matchmaker searches for matches close to your rank and then widens the search until it finds a group. That's why some matches are so unbalanced. Unfortunately, there's not much it can do about making up for a lack of players on one side. It used to be the other way around, with killers having the longer queue times, but things have changed.

  • It's funny hearing it from the killer viewpoint. I have ranted about this to other survivors. When I am on the hook, don't loop the killer around me.

I think they are still focused on getting their altruism points rather than getting the hooked survivor rescued.

  • @Kim said:

If it’s killer or survivor i have anxiety playing both roles and it’s a shame cause i really like this game. But my anxiety gets in the way a lot of the time because i ask questions like. “What if i die will my team hate me?” or “Will we lose if i don’t do that gen or save that guy?” Or as killer “If i don’t kill everybody am i bad killer?” Stuff like this makes me not want too play. Which is a shame because i really like this game.

Close the endgame chat window and do as you please. It's even easier on the survivor side because if you play poorly and get knocked out early, you can just move on to the next match before anyone else gets out. If you closed the chat window, it won't matter either way. Whether they love you, or hate you, you'll never see it. I suggest you just assume that they loved you. :) You can even just pretend that you were playing with/against bots. That's how I got over my MOBA anxiety, back in the day.

  • What's sad is that it used to be the other way around. Killer queues were long and survivor queues were nearly instant. How times have changed.

  • IDK, is Small Game considered a weak perk? I use it quite a bit, so I don't think it is.

Technician, I guess. There was a time when I had been away from the game for a while and lacked all confidence in my skill checks, so I ran that for a while.

If neither of those are considered weak, then Lightweight would probably do it.

  • Nah, never faced a killer like that. That would be the most ridiculous discussion ever. Criticizing a survivor for doing what they are supposed to be doing, is stupid. They should have blamed themselves for not giving up the chase sooner. They probably did, but some people cannot accept blame and need to point the finger at others....sadly.

  • You certainly can't learn to counter-play her when you suicide on the hook rather than trying to play better. And I don't think anyone will miss someone who screws over their team because they can't be bothered to at least try.

  • I agree, it sucks. Too few perks per level, leaves you with few options. I have gone through leveling up characters to unlock their teachable perks only to have them never show up in the blood web of other characters. I have not counted myself, but somebody recently said there were over 90 perks in the game, per side. Now multiply that by 3 for the different levels of the perks, then throw RNG into the mix. It is ridiculously frustrating. It made me question why I should buy new survivors or killers for the perks, when I will have to spend a ton of BP leveling them up to unlock their teachable perks, only to have them never show up in the blood webs of other characters. I might as well wait for them to show up in the Shrine. Probably similar odds, and you save a lot of BP.

  • I think that they should buff or nerf depending on the situation, and what they are in relation to. Sometimes things are truly OP and need to be nerfed, and some things are truly underpowered, and need to be buffed. Most of the times nerfs are made far too liberally. If something has the slightest appearance of being OP, they waste no time nerfing it. Buffs are usually slower in coming.

  • As with most things, it should be balanced toward the average. Casual players will improve, and hardcore players will always be able to squeeze more out of what they have. The real problem is that the game cannot matchmake properly. If casual players are teamed with, or against other casual players, everything should be fine. If hardcore players are teamed with/against other hardcore players, everything should be fine. The same for those in the middle. The sad thing is that doesn't happen, so trying to balance the game where new players are teamed with/against players with thousands of hours of gameplay, is ridiculous. The matchmaking fix should have been their top priority. And nothing should have been buffed or nerfed until they got that done. Now the game is just a mess.

  • Great concept but flawed by poor balancing and matchmaking. Also, the devs let the toxicity run rampant and, in a few cases, even contributed to it. For whatever reason they don't address the underlying problems and try to fix issues by buffing and nerfing perks, which are typically are overdone because the underlying conditions still exist.

  • The basement is supposed to be a scary place, that's why you get more BP the longer you spend down there. Most killers don't have insta downs, so it shouldn't be a 1 for 1 trade. The healthy rescuer take the hit and 2 injured survivors escape. Also, I have found Head On, great to use in basements.

  • I saw a video recently where the killer countered it by slugging everyone. That way there is no way for them to escape with the key.

Keys negatively impact the survivors that don't escape with the key. Had that happen to me before, and I was left alone with the killer. 3 v 1 suddenly went to a 1 v 1. Frustrating as hell.

  • Nothing new. That's the same reason Ruin got nerfed. There are even tools/perks that make them easier to find. I think the whole hex thing is a failure. Either commit to hexes and make them useful, by hiding them better and keeping them powerful, or scrap the whole system. At least with the latter the perks could be balanced on their own merits rather than the RNG of totem placement.

  • "This is why I rather run the meta perks and play toxic because when I try to be different I get screwed. So back to the usual easy escape builds and toxic play. Killers whine and complain but continue to be toxic aswell. Screw it. Cant beat'em join'em."

Sounds like you play toxic and someone remembered. As you said, your usual playstyle is to be toxic. Likely they remembered you from a different game and went after you. Don't blame it on the killer when your "usual" playstyle is toxic.

  • @Minaaa said:

Word of warning - You need 4 survivors and just 1 killer to play DBD.

If this game continues to overwhelmingly favour killers it will die.

The only way survivors stand a chance is if they have a swf, in solo queue you are just meat for killers to have fun with.

Hex Ruin, Hex Undying, Noed, Face camping, Tunnelling, insane red add-ons, etc, etc, etc....

I challenge Behaviour Interactive to release their stats on how often killers get a 4k vs 4 survivors escaping (across all ranks). We all know who those stats are going to favour.

Sounds like you are still in the newbie or haven't learn to play well phase. In the early skill levels it seems that killers are OP. In higher skill levels it is clear that survivors have the benefits.

Word of warning - it takes 1 killer to give 4 survivors a game. Lose 1 killer, 4 survivors have to wait in the queue longer. Lose 100 killers, 400 survivors have to wait longer....and so on. Since we have seen an increase in survivor queue times, what do you think is happening?

  • Hex perks were "supposed to be" really powerful, countered by the fact that they could be cleansed. However, many survivors can't be bothered looking for them, so the devs haven't bothered to hide totems, despite it being brought up countless times. You may get lucky and have one spawn in an out of the way place, but more likely they will be out in the open.

When undying was added, that made for a better situation. If a hex was cleansed it would get transferred to a dull totem, keeping the hex in play. Survivors would have to cleanse multiple totems. Many survivors don't like looking for totems, so they nerfed undying too. It's sad because there are multiple ways to find hex totems, but they can't be bothered using them, so nerfs.

  • They said that there were a lot of new additions coming that would only be possible with the new, modular UI. They said that they could not, yet, elaborate on what those changes/additions would be.

Yeah, it was their servers and not me. Usually, if my net drops for a second it downs for like 10 seconds and I can SEE that it's out. There was no connection interruption what so ever.

You can't know that it was their server. It's not like you connect directly to their server. There are numerous hops between your computer and their servers. Any of those routers could have dropped packets and caused the game to DC. Your internet connection would still look solid.

  • Attacking BBQ&Chili of all things. LOL No, it's not OP. Not even close.

If you "know" that most killers are using it, counter it. Move off the gen to a different area, or jump in a locker. You can even mind-game the killer by moving in one direction for the few seconds that the perk is active, then move in the other direction. Kindred is not necessary, just incredibly useful. Both sides have multiple aura perks. The aura part of BBQ is useful, just as any other aura perk is. It's higher use is definitely more due to the extra BP gain, though.

You are not forced to use kindred, but if you think it helps vs BBQ, why would you not use it? If that is your biggest concern, you use perks that help counter it. If you are concerned about tunneling, you bring DS. If you are concerned about slugging, you bring unbreakable. If you are concerned about being chased (which everyone is), you bring and exhaustion perk.

And, yeah, there are survivor perks that are easily just as popular. Popularity does not mean that it is OP.

Btw, kindred is extremely useful whether the killer uses BBQ&C, or not.

  • Farming is OK with a full group of friends. It's not OK when other people are involved, that don't want to be. They waited in a queue for a long time to play a real match and get stuck with that nonsense. I will always report afk killers. It wastes my time. If you want to farm, don't use public queues.

  • No. His purple is the only thing that makes him viable, at all. It makes him decent at countering looping. If he was negatively affected by it, that whole aspect of his gameplay would be gone.

  • Personally, I think that should apply to both sides. If everyone played both sides, maybe we could work out better balance solutions.

I know this was about queue times, but still...

  • Hard to say. Switching you build and getting stomped should motivate you to learn how to use the new build effectively, or modify it. Giving up on it because you didn't do as well as you did with your previous build doesn't make sense. That should have been expected. If you play simply for the fun of trying new things, regardless of the results, you will have a lot more fun.

  • I would not say that it is a "must bring", though it is useful. Often times players will take ridiculous risks to get their items back. Plus, while they are looking for the item they dropped, they aren't working on gens. I think it is more effective when it isn't used that often. That way it is more of a surprise, and they may not notice where they dropped it.

  • If matchmaking worked properly, you should be paired with teammates of equal skill. Clearly, in a situation like that, you weren't. Hopefully the MMR system will fix that.

Yes, if I had incredibly old internet from the 90's this would be relevant. I have high speed internet which never comes close to maxing out its limits. Audiobooks use very little for streaming, it would also effect other online apps all which maintain their connection. So I am sorry to imply you do not know how all internet works, you just do not know how big my bandwidth is. Since others are having the same problem we can assume it is not just on my end. My original point is since the dc penalties are effecting folks who do not DC the penalties should be adjusted. Right now they are punishing folks who do not rage quit but can do nothing to change the problem from a consumer level.

He was not specifically talking about bandwidth to your computer. Not only are there a lot of factors on your own system (including your router) that could cause problems, there are numerous hops between your computer and the dbd servers that can also be potential points of failure. Yes, some other people may also have problems, but most do not. It could be that they are all going through the same faulty router, that is dropping packets. Also, how many of those "claiming" to not be deliberately disconnecting are actually lying to try and get the penalty removed? We don't know. What we do know is that people disconnecting from the game hurts the remaining players. The penalty needs to remain in place.

  • Yeah, it's ridiculous. I think a lot of it has to do with them being survivor "mains", and they have no idea what the killer can, and cannot, see and hear. If I am following scratch marks and they lead me back to the hook, that is not me camping or tunneling. That is the fault of the rescuer. If the unhooked survivor gets downed, that was an unsafe rescue, not a tunnel. I even had a situation like that where the rescuer led me to the hook and went for an obviously unsafe rescue. I hit the resuer, while the unhooked survivor ran away. While my post-hit animation was going on, the resuer ran to the exit. I was planning on going after them, but the unhooked survivor, for some reason, turned around and tried to run right past me, and I hit them and rehooked them. I hadn't moved, but was still accused of tunneling. I was following the rescuer that led me to the hook, but was accused of camping.

As a survivor, I hate it when my teammates insist on healing me under the hook, because I know that the killer knows that I was unhooked and exactly where it happened. Staying there is foolish. I have been redowned many times because of that. I don't blame the killer for it. I also don't blame the killer if I get downed after an unsafe rescue. If you know the killer is chasing you, don't go for an unsafe rescue, lead the killer away, so someone else can get a safe rescue. Definitely don't keep looping the killer around the hook, preventing others from getting a rescue. Not sure if it is greed or stupidity that leads to those situations.

I saw a video, a while back, where the killer and one of the survivors were both streamers, and the killer posted a video showing both sides of the situation. He was accused of tunneling and camping, but his video showed him going well away from the hook and doing several things before returning to the place where the survivor was unhooked. The survivor's video showed the same thing. It showed the unhooked survivor and the rescuer hanging out under the hook. It was one that was out in the open too, making it even worse. When the killer returned, the rescuer bolted and the unhooked survivor did not, and got rehooked. He then accused the killer of camping and tunneling, which the video showed was not the case. The other survivor even said that he did not see the killer camping or tunneling. That did not stop the other survivor from ranting about how he was camped and tunneled.

  • Not true. Breakable walls in dead ends are useless to the killer. They were supposed to make things better for the killer. Putting in breakable walls that the killer would never want to break, are useless. Those give killers plenty to complain about.

  • Overall, I don't see a lot of camping. If I have to choose one killer that I have seen do it the most, it would probably be Wraith.

I do not consider Hag's traps to be camping. If you play against her, you should expect traps near the hook and circumvent or remove them.

What happens when not everyone has the DLC or the Perks or access to the perks.

You've seemed to also over look the fact that its not a problem with slugging. Its a problem with Slugging all and leaving to bleed out. Which in some cases is viable (when you're gen-rushed or gens have been done) but when you're 90 seconds in and you're a being slugged before even a generator is done. That is the problem

As was pointed out, 2 of the 3 come on default characters that everyone has access to.

If you are 90 seconds in and all 4 survivors are downed, that is not a problem with slugging, that just means all 4 survivors played poorly. Also, it is highly unlikely that a killer would slug all 4 survivors on their first down and leave them to bleed out. It's not fun for the killer, and they will lose out on a lot of points.

The biggest problem with slugging is that far too many survivors don't even try to recover, so it takes far longer for other survivors to revive them, increasing the possibility that the helping survivor(s) will also get downed.

"adapt" or get over it and stop using a broken key.

I'm tired of bhvr ignoring their fanbase in favor of profit. The fix for these things is obvious, even a baboon can think of a solution. Facts are though is that they favor survivors because they are the money makers.

Keys screw over survivors too. It sucks to be left alone with the killer when two of your teammates suddenly escape using a key. I'm not sure what a perfect solution would be, but i would not miss them if they disappeared and were replaced with another item.

  • They could just have been being a tool, but that seems like a very specific thing for them to do, leading me to believe they were trying to help while maximizing XP. As someone who also plays survivor, I can't see the point of them carrying you to the gate. It wouldn't bother me any more to bleed out at the gate, than to bleed out anywhere else on the map.

Killers get xp for closing the hatch, plus it triggers the collapse, allowing you to open the gates even if you don't have enough gens repaired. Letting you struggle free gets you xp and downing you gives them xp, extra during the collapse. I would assume that them hitting the gate switch was to indicate that they want you to open it. Since you were playing as Bill, they could have assumed that you had unbreakable available. Though, if it were me, i would let you open the gate first (so you get the xp for it), then down you (so I get xp for it), and let you crawl out. That way there's no misunderstanding.

There is an outside chance that they were hitting the latch because they were trying to open the gate for you, and didn't know how, though i would not expect to see that on a regular basis.

  • Best strategy is to use lockers and distance to your benefit. Trying to loop and mind game him are just going to get you killed. Also, make sure to snap yourself out of it when you start hallucinating.
