Several games now I've been accused of cheating for running soul guard. Is no one aware of the fact that you can get up by yourself if there's an active hex totem?

Bonus question: what are the chances of me getting banned for false reports of cheating? I'm almost afraid of running soul guard at this point...

I haven't really seen it used that much. I think a lot of people are still getting used to its existence. I've had it used on me twice as killer and I'll admit it confused the hell out of me.

I miss the old version's ability to deplete charges.

Wanna heal yourself with that brown Medkit? One smack = nope.

Trying to genrush or sabotage? Say goodbye to a chunk of that toolbox.

Looking at stuff with that burrito? Not for as long as you'd like!

Have a Key? Not if I hit you enough times, you don't. And good luck opening Hatch when I can smack it out of your hands.

Like, the new version is cool and all, but I can't say I've had enough items evaporate on the ground that I feel like it's clearly better than just taking 15% of the item per hit.

All in all, I still love Franklin's; if only because it gives some kind of counterplay to Dull and Skeleton Keys.

This. I loved seeing salt post game when I used it on old Leatherface when he launched. OH thats a nice purple medkit you've been using. SHAME IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO IT.

  • Honestly a complete waste of a perk slot for me. Always has been. I want as many survivors with a flashlight in hand as possible as that means they're going to try and go for a save which 9/10 times they dont have the angle for.

It's like Lightborn. Spending a perk slot on something that may not even be necessary. Killers have some pretty power, game changing perks that can fit in 1 slot and using that spot for lightborn or Franklins is already a small victory for every survivor.

  • I mean, Silent Hill 2 is considered by many to be the best and scariest horror game ever made. Outside of streamer/youtubers the only people I've seen who actually like FNAF are actual children.

  • Ah, the Thanatophobia balancing approach? Taking a trash perk and making it worse.

  • I've been getting a lot of green and purple as a red rank killer. To the point that a lot of them clearly aren't anywhere near as experienced as the survivors I usually play against. Actually killing my motivation to play killer.

Seen 1 or 2 content creators say the same thing is happening to them.

  • Kindred it possibly the least "toxic" (dumb name) perk in DBD.

That said I couldn't name you a single perk I would actually refer to as toxic.

You can run a full meta build and outplay the killer, that isn't toxic.

I wouldn’t call it that much of a shake up.

It’s simply “Oh... we can make Ruin oppressive again, and punish noobs and solo again”

True I guess. tbf old Ruin didnt really hurt solos at all. Unless you were the unluckies man on earth it only added about 30 seconds to a gen. and that was if you couldnt hit greats.

then slug them if you know they have been unhooked recently

if you can't keep track of things like that your not a good killer bud

Next time I get a 4 man SWF with all identical KAte densons with meta perks I'll call you in bub.

  • @AChaoticKiller said:

DS is fine just. dont. tunnel. however it is a problem when combined with unbreakable because there is no way for the killer to benefit.

Head on is also fine, it makes it safer to hide in lockers and can be combined with other perks for a certain play style.

Dead Hard is probably the best exhaustion perk however it can still be baited out and without a pallet or vault to get to when your about to be hit it does nothing. I would say this perk is the closest one to being OP while still being balanced, it's just good.

also they all are being used as intended even DS, the survivor went into a locker? shouldn't have gone after them.

I regularly get hit by DS when I've hooked 1 or 2 survivors since that survivor was last hooked. It's not an anti tunnel perk. Its an anti momentum perk. It punishes killers for playing too well.

It should just not tick down if active and being chased but deactivate if healed or gens are touched.

  • "just break the wall first and lose all your early game pressure"

    Th-thanks devs.

So i don't know about you but i've literally been hit with a hatchet through an entire wall so im actually super confused on what you are talking about in regards to missing 'hatchets" due to latency im not gonna lie chief this sounds more of a you problem unless you have 1000 ping and even then you'd still get latency hits.

Yeah, if thats happening it has to be on his end. Hatchet hitboxes are already forgiving as hell and latency combined with them makes hits outright lies most of the time.

I like Billy's and hoping nurse gets one next.

Nurse should have Iron Lung sound effects or something. SH2 tought me how creepy those are.

  • Boring in the sense that the match just plays out easy? For me Wraith is kinda boring but not in the Spirit/Legion/Slinger/PPhead way.

It's the fact that once you're at a pallet loop he's purely a basic M1 killer. Sure, he can cloak. And you can either run to another loop, through a nearby window or if you're at a long, safe loop just keep running and his windstorm is powerless.

I hope one day he gets a proper rework and not a band aid fix like he always had.

I'd like him to have a higher skill ceiling, which would in turn make him stronger.

  • I still have it downloaded. I played it a bit at launch and liked the blood market and progression system. That said I found the controls really awful to play.

  • I like Blights and Demos a lot. But my god is Blights way too loud. Even when playing him.

Becuz of ppl like me. I fall for some of those on purpose to give the survivors a good time at the expense of my own.

They think I'm stupid though. And tell me I'm stupid.

This, sometimes if I'm in no danger of losing and the survivors seem not super experience I'll play a little dumb to let a match last longer and make it more fun.

  • You're getting angry at survivors for trying to shake up gameplay and make the match more interesting.

  • @Raz_ said:

nah.. as long they're no competetion in that genre and a similiar game dbd wont die.

    Resident evil tried, failed.

    last year tried, failed.

    Friday 13 tried, failed.

as long a company doesnt bring a similiar game to dbd with the same mechanics just better (without bugs, balanced etc) dbd wont die.

In all fairness I think Resistance could have done well if Capcom hadn't made the downright bizarre decision to keep it bundled with a critically panned Remake of a fan favorite game. It's very fun, though I haven't played it since moving to PC.

  • We've had a pretty big shakeup of the killer meta recently with Ruin and Undying. They've also made certain perks like Mindbreaker way more viable which is nice. It is very obvious that the developers are terrified of shaking up the survivor meta, which is a shame. But we know how it'd go if DS was made actually anti-tunnel or Unbreakable and DS making you invincible to bad plays. There are problem perks on both sides, however. Don't want to make anyone think I'm being biased. I DO think that Undying is way too punishing to solo players, especially with the refusal to add a totem counter. It may even drive some away from the game.

The survivor meta has been the same since I started playing YEARS ago, while killers have had several major build shake ups since then. It's reached the point where as a solo survivor who plays with more unique or themed builds is getting me reported by teammates post game for not using BT or Unbreakable. Madness.

They're actively working on the latency and have even stated that Dead Hards programming is being re-written to work better with dedicated servers which is good.

I'll say what I've said before. The only reason DBD is still so successful is because every other major Assymetrical horror game that has come out has somehow had even worse design decisions made post launch.

I’m relatively new to the game, I’ve been playing for about two months now? I’d like to think I balance my time pretty fairly between killer and survivor. I have played AS Freddy, so I understand his abilities and his limitations etc. I don’t think he’s over powered or anything because I’ve seen people dunk on Freddy more than once.

Here’s the thing- when I play against him as the survivor, I suffer. I just don’t know how to counter him effectively and I’m sure that’s partially due to my inexperience... I would like to get better though, so if any killer mains who know a thing or two about Freddy or experienced survivors have any advice for me it would be greatly appreciated :)

(Side note: I played against three Freddy’s with Ebony Moris today and I was decimated every time 😞😞)

Freddy can be tough even for longtime players if the Freddy knows how to play tiles and where to place snares.

A few tips. If Freddy isn't using any slowdown in dreamworld add ons or fake pallets, don't bother wasting time to wake up. You'll lose more time running there and back then you'd save and its only for 60 seconds.

Be extra wary of his distance when looping. Freddy's lunge is and always has been the same as Trappers. But his short height, in addition to his extremely short weapon (literally a glove) makes it seem like he shouldn't have hit you when he did. To this day despite the tons of testing and info from devs some people still refuse to believe his lunge isn't glitched.

If he's chasing you and you're running in the direction of a gen he may start to teleport ahead. This is a bit of a bad situation as he can either cancel if you double back or go straight for it and cut you off. Try to remember the location of any gens while being chased. If you lead him in the direction of an already complete gen he'll be mostly powerless. And you won't be hindering your teams progression.

Freddy's major strength is his ability to slow games down. Some freddys need additional help and so use gen regression or blocker perks.

95% of freddy players use either corrupt/pop or ruin/undying. I'd recommend making a build that can counter these. Heathers perk that can block pop goes the weasel would really hinder freddys slowdown abilities with Pop. And Small game is a god send for cleansing totems quickly at match start.

The tougher Freddies will most likely be using chaser perks like Enduring and Spirit Fury to optimise their chases. These are the ones who will really give you a hard time.

That said, these won't help you too much. Freddy is oppressively strong right now, his results are definitely too good for a killer with such a low skill ceiling. And a good killer with a couple of strong perks (especially the already stale ruin/undying meta) has made him even stronger due to his pretty strong ability to end chases and teleport around the map.

To your side note. Thats probably because in my experience a lot of freddy players arent... very good, at other killers. He can carry a bad killer pretty far. Sort of like how SWF can carry bad survivors a lot.

  • I'd get the same players quite often on Xbox. I still see them now on PC. It's a shame I can't say hi to them.

Heck when Apex Legens released I had multiple games where I got a DBD regular randomly matched onto my team. That was weird.

  • Bond is great for solo especially if you aren't using self-care and using Leader for faster heals from teammates. Or prove thyself.

Problem is I think the new Kindred is probably the best solo perk and 2 aura reading perks feels like overkill.

  • I've seen bigger games lose significantly larger portions of their playerbase in less time. Most people don't exclusively or (mostly) play one game like a lot of DBD players seem to.

People also get burnt out and just return when there's new content. I'd been playing religously since around Huntress but when Ghostface release I had to take a few months break as I was growing to actively hate the game.

  • @MrLimonka said:

Flip Flop - just make it so that the wiggle progression transfers 1:1 and cap it at 50%

Buckle up - You can still see the auras, and maybe if someone is fully recovered (at 95%), you can pick them up from afar instead of directly healing them.

Agreed on flip flop. The main problem is that it just takes too long to max out the bar. It could be an actual alternative to DS with smart map knowledge by survivors.

Buckle Up I used while playing as adept ash recently and it does actually help with sluggers. A lot of Rank 1 survivors somehow still don't know that recovering is better than crawling in 95% of situations.

I really would have liked the WGLF buff to have been given to buckle up and just give WGLF faster unhooks or something.

  • Oh, how could I forget Oni? He's also relatively well balanced. Sort of a glass cannon. Smart survivors can prevent him from getting his power too early but if a good Oni gets it oh boy.

  • I used to think Billy but hes been off for some time. Having recently actually given him a chance I think Demo is actually a really well balanced killer in regards to Shred. I do wish he travelled through portals faster and didn't have the global prompt. Or as the very least lower his footstep noise as it makes his short undetectable status worthless.

Some people think "balanced" means a killer that craps all over solo players but averages 1-2 kills against a good swf. I would put a high tier Nurse at blatantly overpowered outside of playing even the best SWF with meta perks.

Spirit I would maybe say isn't "OP" but is very easy to play and not very enjoyable as a survivor due to the complete lack of feedback.

Same with Freddy. He's almost unbeatable for 4 solos against a half decent freddy but gets crapped on by a decent SWF.

  • The new macmillan maps and yamaoka maps are sometimes absurdly dark and other times perfectly fine for me.

  • The best ones are when you literally block the killer round a turn to try and save them and they just walk around, not even hitting you for the extra bit of pressure. Once a PPhead always a PPhead.

  • Oh good this killer was always supposed to be even more of a crapshoot than she initially launched as. Love having to just guess when the killer has all the info of my exact location. What "meaningful interaction" devs!

  • Some sort of rage power. Similar to the F13 game maybe? As the match goes on he becomes angrier and stronger. Maybe as just a low TR M1 killer like EW2 myers but as more gens pop he goes from 2 to 1 shot with a longer lunge. Like a Myers with less control over his power but if the survivors want to escape they'd have to trigger his powers.

Derivative of Micheal, I know. But Jason himself was literally designed to just be a more brutal Micheal. That said I'd like a unique power that I'm sure the dev team could come up with.

  • Maybe they'll add some breakable walls that no sane killer would ever break to make this map actually viable for anyone except Blight and Nurse.

  • In my (recent) experience with T.tv they teabag a lot of try to bait chases but end up not being very good.

  • Congrats. Though I'm not sure who said it was impossible. You can get to rank one with any killer. It's dependant on both your skill and the skill of the survivors you're up against.

  • Best? Stranger things map aside, Blights chapter (forget the name) and while a lot of people hated old freddy at launch and its still the worst reviewed one on Steam, I really liked the Nightmare on launch.

Worst? Chains of Hate (although I actually really like the map) and Darkness among us without a doubt. Awful awful awful killer, atrociously badly designed map and the most forgettable survivor to date outside of maybe Zarina. Still the two most boring killers ever added to DBD. They'll struggle to 1-UP themselves here I think.

Also is Ghostface considered a chapter? If so despite liking Ghostface I'll add him to worst due to the sheer lack of content he came with.

  • Eh. I'm over it. They've changed Thanataphobia multiple times and it has been equally awful each time no matter the killer. I would argue that current legion with new Thana pales in comparison to old Legion with old thana because new legion is so slow most feral frenzys can be countered by... holding W. And even then it was only good when paired with sloppy and bad survivors.

Has and will always be a waste of a perk slot for me. Even when I do silly themed bui;ds.

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

I’m without doubt that teasers for upcoming Chapters are released purely for the devs entertainment and amusement derived from the overwhelming amount of speculation they always elicit.

I guarantee they’re perusing the Internet right now, either smiling, or outright laughing at some of the theories that are popping up.

I don’t imply anything sinister here. I’m sure it’s all very fun for them stirring up excitement and rumours in the DBD community every few weeks.

It gets people talking and speculating which is good for the games publicity.

  • Some realms have wolf howling iirc. I assume its just meant to be the entity mimicking these sounds and there aren't actually any wolves present.

  • @whammigobambam said:

I don't understand there not being an obsession. There are two kinds of killers in no obsession matches. Killers that tunnel immediately and killers that tunnel when 2 or 3 gens pop. Having no obsession in matches just encourages more survivors using ds to avoid this boring no obsession matches.

Agreed. I've said before that I have a rule about not hooking the same survivor twice within a short amount of time. DS active or not.

But from my experience a good 95% of killers will tunnel one survivor straight out of the game when theres no obsession. And the usual excuse of "But I HAVE to, gens are too fast" doesn't stand when almost every killer at all ranks is running undying and ruin together nowadays. Gens are going fast because you aren't comitting to pressure. I assume its the killers that are obsessed with getting the 4K above all else, even enjoyment of the game.

  • There usually isnt a downside to survivor obsession perks outside of OoO. Most killer ones encourage you to let your obsession live as long as possible to reap the rewards. You're safe as the obsession than anyone else in situations where it would actually matter.

  • Get used to how the camera snaps to ADS. shots below a certain distance are unreactable and a free hit. If a survivor is within mid range faking ads will make them panic and begin juking giving you a free hit. If they dont try to dodge jsut shoot them.

  • @Aldath said:

Hey there guys! Some weeks ago, I posted asking for advice on getting out of the limbo I was stuck in (Rank 12-10), and I've finally managed to move forward, now jumping in between ranks 8 and 7 :) I'm very grateful for all your advice as it has really helped me improve.

That said, it's becoming more and more common to be paired against Rank 3-1 survivors, and even though now I usually get "Brutal Killer" at minimum, I still find it hard to progress and do better, mostly because I still haven't settled on learning a killer good before moving forward. I felt comfortable with Legion, but I really struggle using him against higher ranked players because Deep Wounds isn't a menace at all and besides stabbing someone to see who else is on the map is about the only thing I can do with him.

I decided to go for some of the stronger "meta" killers, but I have problems with every single one of them:

-Hag: As I've gone up in ranks, keeping up with survivors working hard on multiple gens has made playing her harder, my traps trigger all around the map, usually on different edges, and I can't chase good enough.

-Billy: Chasing while using the chainsaw dash has always been impossible for me.

-Oni: Same as Billy, I can't seem to make any use of its power; dashing makes me lose sight of whomever I'm chasing, and I can't for the love of God hit anyone with the club lounge.

-Nightmare: I've found much more success using him than Hag, but the use of his snares is tricky at best, and I still feel survivors just aren't afraid of falling asleep, and it's the same thing: survivors just spread around the map doing gens very quick, my teleport will let me keep tabs on two at best, but even then that's not enough. The only games I manage to win with him are where my NOED wasn't cleansed, just to be called slurs on chat, more often than I'd like to.

-Nurse: If I can't hit people with Billy and Oni, you bet I can't do anything with Nurse.

-Huntress: I have terrible aim. I can't do anything in PvP shooters, let alone here that hitboxes are so wonky.

-Executioner: Out of those I'd say this is the killer I understand the least...

So, I know I'll have to stick to one of the stronger killers if I want to become better, but I'm sure my dumb self must be overthinking (or overlooking) something about them and at least one of them might be easier to use and understand than the rest. I'd like some advice again :( Thanks for your help guys, and have a beautiful day!

Nightmare. Once you figure out where to place snares at loops to either force the survivor to slow or try to evade it and lose distance he becomes brain dead easy. Equip a couple of slowdown perks and you will win 95% of matches against anything but SWF just by attrition of the survivors will to play. He's extraordinarily easy to play for how good for how high his return in kills is.

It's true that it's your game and you're free to play it the way you want to. But if you choose to be sweaty, then you have no reason to complain if your match lasted only minutes because players responded in kind by either disconnecting, or purposefully killing themselves on the first hook.

Its their items they're wasting. Why is it bad for killer to play to win but not survivors?
