I have never said something like that - try again.

Might be coming back from my prescribed mental health break from DBD. Was thinking of trying oni, as the title asks, is he really underrated? Or is he overhyped?
He's cool and a good Oni is scary to go against. But if the survivor are alert and stong loopers they can outright deny Blood Fury for the first few minutes of the match if not longer. He only passive charges to 98% iirc. Meaning he needs 1 hit or blood orb. Conservative looping can destroy him.

Leatherface can still be looped and corner-teched so your input obviously does matter.
You can't expect to win if you have no idea how the game works.
Almost 3 minute chase and 4 man escape SOLO QUEUE at red ranks:
Corner-teching Leatherfaces even in the open field:
Leatherface is literally a killer that only catches you quickly if the Leatherface-player is better at the game than the survivor he faces.
If you go down quickly all the time it's a YOU problem. Leatherface is mechanically fair and balanced.
There's no point with this guy. Dude thinks THE ONI, a character that you can literally deny his power the entire match, is overpowered.

Pretty much this.
It’s thrilling isn’t it. Another killer against which your input doesn’t matter.
There are 1 or 2 killers in DBD that do truly feel "uncounterable". Leatherface most certainly isn't one of them.

Why people playing there are so tryhard ? The gameplay is so different than playing in afternoon or morning ( wich is non sense because its always afternoon somewhere)
It's the opposite for me. After around 7PM GMT all I get are 150 ms lobbies with grey or green rank teammates.

Yes and no. When doing Rift challenges and being forced to use perks I don't like (Noed, Adrenaline, exhaustion perks) no.
When I'm messing about trying different perk combos and playing against fun killers or good survivors on fair maps? yes

Do people still actually get salty over this though? I remember getting a lot of hate with OG freddy back in the day but I don't really get hate anymore.
Sure, there are some killers I hate but I'm not going to mock them for playing that killer, I mean, if its Freddy I'll acknowledge the crutch but I'll keep it to myself.

Same as billy really. Don't get caught in a dead zone. Use windows when you can. Don't panic waste pallets as that'll make later chases even tougher.

I don't run the meta. I do ok. You don't need the meta perks to survive at all. You just have to play reasonably smart and not get sandbagged.

So quick catch up on me. Long time killer main, started SWFing to learn survivor, climbed to rank 4 as survivor, but knew I was boosted.
So I started my solo career. I have been hard stuck at rank 6 but all I face are red rank killers and my fellow survivors also tend to be red ranks.
My question, how often do you all survive? I went from probably a 70% survival rate as a swfmate to maybe 15% as a solo.
I noticed as solo, I don't even play to survive anymore, I play to hopefully pip.
So please tell me friends are you surviving often? And if so, how?
Go in not expecting to win. What I do. I just had a game as a rank 1 with 2 grey ranks and a green. Solo'd 4 gens and left them to die.

I don't know if you diverted resources for the PTB or if it's the weekend activity, but european DbD on the live version of the game is currently outright unplayable. And the ingame ping is just straightup lying to my face. I'm seeing action delays of 0,5-1 full second, with hitboxes lagging up to two seconds behind (as shown by a huntress happily farming hits on empty air repeatedly)
Please for the love of god give me an option to get back to peer2peer already, i'll pay you a hundred bucks just to turn dedicated servers off. They do not work in europe. I have queuetimes of upwards of 15 minutes to get matched with literal chinese and russian players. Get me off of these hellish servers, i'm begging you to let me pay you to let me play in a way that causes you less infrastructure costs (and no cheater will repeatedly pay a 100€ entry just to get out of the dedicated server bracket to hack)
Showing me 24ms ping (which is roughly what my internet connection offers to any game) and then having gameplay with 500-2000ms ping effectively is just unacceptable. Stop it.
I've been getting long waits with 200 ms servers when I'm usually 30-50. I can only assume EU is full up and its forcing me onto US or something.

I confess there are a lot of killers that just go after one person throughout the entire match and that is why DS exists. However there are also times when the killer is doing extremely well and DS punishes them even if they weren't tunneling. There have been a few rare moments when I hooked someone. Downed and hooked 2 other people. Came back to the first person by chance and they still had DS.
Oh you're preaching to the choir there. The amount of matches that I've lost or come close to losing from a commanding lead, just because someone I hooked, hooked someone else, and then downed again then DS'd me and got a BT unhook or something, is staggering.
When I bring this up I've been called a "bad killer" for literally doing too well. DS isn't anti tunnel. It's anti-momentum. I wish it were a truly anti-tunnel perk.

I like to see these posts of Spirit players who openly admit Spirit will catch you in 6 seconds regardless of the skill or ability of those in play. It -is- a great and balanced killer indeed.
It’s still true though, well said.
I got this from Otz but if you ever want to know what killer you're against, just wait for the first hit on a teammate and count the seconds out loud. Less than 10? Spirit.

I can;t wait to see how awkward the animations look for that. Considering how many characters just take one large stride during their lunge.

I can only think of 1 or 2 content creators max that play killer that encourage toxicity and they aren't as big as others. Most of the more cocky ones talk crap in their commentary or act like asses to their teamamtes or opponents tend to play solo survivor.

Deathslinger still can't down several people in one hit over 1-2 tiles, no matter what you think about his attack speed.
Leatherface getting more than 1 down on a chainsaw sprint is entirely on the survivors. It's not something that should happen or work against players with a modicum of map awareness.
And while he may not down he can do something just as strong and easier to pull off. With his ability to pop off a quick shot and eat the stun. Injuring the survivor and forcing them to mend. M & A on a Slinger can let him pop round a corner and get a hit off on one survivors and immediately pop a shot off on another while getting both off the gen. His damage dispersal is actually quite good against bunched up survivors for a 110 killer.
The best Slingers I've played against are ones who know this and throw on Sloppy and drop chases the minute they get the deep wound. Then either pop-up again when the survivor is distracted or pressure other gens.

Why Not just pick them up and eat it? At least in early game, I prefer to just eat it and get it out of the way.
Ofcourse as a Spirit main, I'm just going catch em again in 6 seconds, I could see slugging on slower killers tho.
Depends entirely on what killer you are. A 4 second headstart against a Clown who used 3 of his 4 bottles in that chase, or a Myers who just ran out of Evil Within, or a Hag who just had several of her nearby traps popped in that chase could be catastrophic and potentially game ending.
But would mean little against a Spirit or Nurse or Trapper whose set up an area the survivor runs towards.

Also, I gotta add. To the first post. Who the hell sticks that close together against a Leatherface? That's honestly really dumb.

I've noticed a lot of Survivors try to run in a straight line and only juke when they THINK a shot is coming. As soon as I see a slinger in range of my booty, I start going serpentine like Peter falk on crack. Works most of the time. Admittedly, I haven't been facing any ex counterstrike tournament level slingers, though.
That's because every juke sideways loses you distance. And your hitbox lags slightly behind so he could still get you even if it looks like he missed.
You've probably seen a Slinger quickly ADS and instantly drop it to get the survivor to lose even more distance. It's a zoning for free thing he has I'm not particularly fond of. There's a pretty funny clip of ZubatLel trolling some poor Nea like this.

With hooks so close together (no need for iron grasp) and the need for a coordinated group of at least 2 sabo survivors, It just seems like such a low probability strategy. It doesn't seem to be worth the hassle anymore.
Thoughts?
Nah. Solo sabotage is absolutely viable now. Never used to be. Sabo and Breakout is incredibly strong but is map dependant. Dead Dawg, for example, is incerdibly dense with hooks.
But most of the older farm, macmillan, junkyard maps work great.
Take a hit and throw on Dead Hard to bait another and you can easily get a Solo carry save. And if they drop them? Congrats you've just wasted all that time the killer spent chasing. Throw on WGLF or Buckle Up and you can even get a run back revive in a chase while the killer breaks a pallet.
Learn the timing of the perk to break a hook, hide behind or nearby it and get the break just as the killer has spent 4-5 seconds reaching the hook, if they don't instantly drop them then they'll be gauranteed to get off the next pickup if they crawl decently enough away or someone takes a hit.
-
I have my own gripes about DS but in all fairness when used on its own I think it is mostly 'fine'. The main problem is that certain perk combinations. DS/Unbreakable, DS/Deliverance, etc can be overwhelmingly strong in certian situations. And when you multiply that by 4 you have a terrifying amount of utility and time wastage between the survivors.

We're both talking from very different experiences then (is this a regional thing)? cause I cannot name a single bubba except maybe people who JUST started where you'd really get much of a chance to engage them in a chase. as said, people complain 'bout Caleb while saying bubba is 100% fair... how?
You can react to Bubbas chainsaw. You can see him charging up and make a choice. Deathslinger can shoot you before you even see his gun raised, and can, in fact, literally zone you by just tapping LT or M2. The survivor has to respect the shot. The survivor has to pre-emptively juke and just hope that the Deathslinger has a bad aim. Deathslinger has 100% control of the situation. Bubba doesn't.

So how do you call a 2k? Did the killer win because he did his job and 'killed' 2 people?
Did the survivors win since the killer did not get most of the team? Maybe the killer lose and survivors just didn't win. They did not loose they just didn't win?
IMO if the two that got away were highly pressured its a tie, and if they just stealthed the whole game and didn't help its a draw. (Defining 'draw' as both sides loose and 'tie' as both sides win)
Even the 'win' condition is asymmetric! Which is really great and can make the game feel even more like a slasher film! Like did the people alive at the end 'win' even if they were injured badly or lost their friends? Most scary movies leave it with that since if 'temporary saftey but loss, also the threat is not really defeated. The 2k captures that well.
To me. A loss is when at least 3 survivors make it out. I've lost me gens, they've got their gate and got out.
2 is a draw and usually a decent length 2K is a safety pip so it makes sense to me.
A hatch escape or a 4K is a win because the survivors didn't get their gens done.

That sounds more like a teammate problem then.
You're experiencing firsthand why so many people play SWF. Can't blame them. Solo is hell. I'm thinking of finding some SWF buddies as I used to play it with friends a lot a few years back but they all moved on. Might be time to find some more.

edit was red before long ago but stopped playing
No.
I can't enjoy this game if I'm not being challenged as killer. There's nothing fun about rank resets where I'm chasing Neas who run from pallets and try to loop me at Z walls.
It's boring and not satisfying.
Then again, on the other end of the spectrum you have the rare sweat squads who make you regret ever not picking a meta killer with meta perks. But those are so rare nowadays that I don't even consider it.
I stopped playing Spirit/Freddy/Slinger and Pyramid simply because nothing outside of a 4 man SWF could stop me from getting a minimum of 3 kills per match. I do miss Spirits sense of velocity but going against her more and more recently as survivor and always wanting to give the players a fun game has turned me off her.

Know what's one of the biggest jokes in the community? People who go and say
'no, bubba's ability to insta down multiple survivors at once over the span of 1-2 tiles is not broken and you just need to learn to counter it by not ever unhooking or healing anyone or generally playing'
then immediately turning around to go
'wah wah remove deathslinger because being stealthy and breaking LoS is no counterplay and he totally never ever ever ever misses any shot anytime with his hitdot it's soooo unfair, wha wha'
Dunno if you ever played Bubba but Vaults literally neuter him. Even an L/T wall. all you need to do is vault and as he goes round slow vault back. Nothing outside of his add ons that increase time will counter that.

You don't need to actually use DS for it to be effective, just the idea of it existing in the trial is enough to work as a deterrent from killers tunnelin you off the hook. That's why it's so important that at least one player in the trial is using at least one obsession perk.
The devs need to make it so that there's always an obsession even when no one is using an obsession perk, then survivors won' be forced to run DS every game anymore and the meta can have more variety.
I might get some heat for this but the amount of killers who will just tunnel with impunity off the hook when there's no obssession, even if it means letting gens pop and getting 1K maybe 2 is shockingly high, even in red ranks. I don't know why they do it tbh. I find camping/patrolling to be incredibly boring. I'm talking seeing killers with well over 1 to 2 thousand hours on their steam account playing this way. The excuse is "its the most effective strategy" but thats only ever been true to me if the killer has gone out of their way to already throw the game for the kill. Made sense to me in the old Commodius toolbox or BNP days. But when you're doing that with Ruin and Undying active I begin to question why you're playing this and not Friday the 13th with its instant grab kills.

It's value comes from the fact that the killer knows someone has it. Could be 1 player. Could be 4. If they really are desperate to get 1 player out of the game because they're struggling then they have to risk the stun. Honestly, I think there should be an obssession with no perks in play.

this game is easier for killers than it ever was and they still whine so much, this is just sad
so i guess they wont ever buff those (because they just nerfed 2 of 3) ;/
Are you actually telling me right now you don't think instablinds were actually unfair? Because I'm inclined to believe you never played against or used one if your life if thats the case. Also having potentially 1 or more gens pop 20 seconds in was unfair. It's similar to moris.

You're ignoring the weaknesses.
You say the cages disable BT and DS, but you ignore the fact that not only does Phead have no Devour Hope, Make Your Choice, BBQ, Pop, or any other hook perk, but he also cannot see the cage's auras, which means you can get saved EASILY. Not having BT or DS doesn't mean anything if you most likely wouldn't get to use them anyway.
As for POTD, when we consider the situation you mentioned you can just stun him 4head
but all jokes aside, you aren't supposed to mindlessly loop a Phead. You have to think. When you break LOS and he's within range, always act like he's aiming POTD. It isn't impossible to dodge.
Eh. Devour is a glass cannon. Very few use it. Make your choice (omegalul) BBQ is unnecessary mid to late game when a few gens are popped if you have survivors off gens healing/unhooking, if you took away the bp bonus its use would drop temendously. I'll give you pop even though the math on that perk makes it surprisingly bad.
The killer not having access to hook based perks is significantly less impactful than survivors. Not even talking about just DS. BT, Kindred which is almost vital for solos nowadays, we'll make it, deliverance.
Like the other guy said. Pyramids in a grey area. I don't think he's OP by any means. I think the problem I have with him is a player problem. Not to make a blanket statement on all PPheads because that would be dumb, but in my recent memory I have not seen a single Pyramid head not focus down the first survivor they torment until they are out of the game. Even if they have Ruin/undying still up and 4 gens left. Same with Deathslinger, I don't think he's OP. Just mind bendingly dull to play against (and play as but thats a whole nother can of worms).

Yeah same. With how many mechanically different perks and killers there are nowadays a practise mode would be a godsend. I agree! We should also have it so DS is token based on how many gens pop, and you always have it so when the killer picks you up, you always get perk value.
I'm not sure if this is bait or just a bad take. But the occasional increased lunge isn't going to change the match condition to the same degree a killer getting DS'd will. You're also forgetting that DS is stronger as a deterrant than an actual perk. Simply having an obsession makes a lot of killers play differently.
This is a novelty perk. You won't see people using this in builds outside of the first month of it launching. It's a Cruel Limits, a Red Herring. The fact that isn't only lunge distance and not speed aswell means this perk will be laughable against a survivor that can juke.
-
I really wanted a forest lab for Blight or something but it made sense to me we didn't get one with the first major reworks. Gotta say I'm getting bothered by the continued lack of new maps. I honestly don't care that much about graphical fidelity. Frame rate is king - John Carmack

Given the number of people I know with plenty of FPS experience that don't have an easy time of it, and injecting a modicum of objectivity, it is clear that the skill doesn't directly transfer for most people, and in many, many others isn't there in the first place.
Just because you personally find something to be easy doesn't eliminate the skill floor or cap. If there were another game that had similar controls to playing Nurse, and people spent thousands upon thousands of hours playing it, it wouldn't change the fact that Nurse is a very difficult killer to learn. You just happened to learn in a different format.
I would argue that Nurse is punished significantly more for misusing her power aswell as being significantly harder to play and giving the survivor a much clearer warning that shes getting ready to use her power.

if they removed the cooldown and basic attack requirement i would use this perk more often since it can work really well if you snow ball.
Agreed on Pop. It does have one advantage though, I guess. And thats that it can be triggered way more than Pop. You can get a lot of use out of badly timed hook saves with it. And it can work on already regressing gens afaik.
Maybe I should try it with a slugging build. Might be interesting.

the perk is really only good on high mobility or ambush killers, doesn't suit demo imo. As a perk i do think its demo's best perk again because it is just really good on those types of killers who can get close and land a hit.
I think it'd be great on Demo without the basic attack part as Shred is so useful for him. I think it works pretty decently if you play Demo as a defensive killer where you control one side of the map. It's just you have to hope they aren't a good looper or you catch them off guard (which is tough for stompy boi) or in a dead zone.
-
I started using it on Demo recently and its ok. The main problem is the basic attack restriction. M1 killers tend to take a little longer to down so there's much better regression perks for them. Surge would be a lot better if that restriction were removed and the cooldown were slightly lowered.
