If anything basement shouldn't exist at all. Not just for certain killers.
Imo, it only promotes tunneling and camping and doesn't really add anything else interesting to the game. It's an outdated mechanic.
Tunneling and camping is interesting playstyle.

Guess it's time to make a discussion for DBD to make a new tip for the loading screen.
"If you're in solo que, and you're playing against Trapper, Hillbilly or Cannibal... don't go near the basement, your team needs you."
Actually YES, what we should have is not the removal of game aspect, more information and help for those who isn't very good at the game.

Have you even tried stretched res on killer? or at all? Yes I know shadowborn and resolution are two different things, however, i don't know how to put it into words, stretched res on killer really does look much better, likewise on survivor. I would use stretched on both sides but considering i now have work to do on my main monitor, it'd be a chore changing one resolution to another after playing DBD, so i've gotten used to native.
Take a look at some of these vids of how stretched res benefits killers, and i dare say more than survivors:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBNDkw1l-H0
stretched res on a killer narrows the angle of getting flashlight blinded. situational? yeah. but you can say the same for survivors because not all tiles can be looked over. i clearly have to emphasize that survivors' advantage from stretched res is only in very, very few tiles.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmpvjfwE43M
look at this blight, its as if he's not following the animation of looking down when injecting himself.
i'm not advocating for cheating in dbd, but coming from games like tf2 and csgo, more customizations in your config is almost never a bad thing.
Killer stretched res only benefits on breaking palettes and nurse/blight stuns, everything else is pretty much nothing.
Countering flashlight does no good as that thing is pretty easy to counter as is.

Yes, I agree 100%. Just not with the easy down killers.
It doesn't matter with easy down killers or not, people should be more careful against all those killers but when they didn't it's 100% on them.

Perhaps we should make sweaty playstyle fun.

Removing basement is equal to removing punishment for downing in good loops, you are asking for it.

It's part of the game, it seems dirty, but survivors do it to counter Lightborn (which isn't even a good perk)
It's not toxic.
Being whiny and entitled, is.
So is tunneling or camping, reminding they will change the tactics once they saw something that could be a sign of strong opponent is also fine.
OP isn't being whiny or entitled, if anything he is being friendly as reminding opponents to how he changes tactics benefit survivor's side.

You know, "other players are extremely bad but I think they shouldn't be punished" is weird.
Do you think every killers should be 3.8 because there is a survivor who gets downed within 5 seconds? it's your logic.

I didn't say tunneling/camping is toxic
I said OP's mindset of being angry at survivors doing stuff in the game that the devs haven't said is an exploit.
It comes off as whiny and entitled.
(Flashlights aren't even that hard to counter)
Okay, I think OP's mindset is perfectly legit and survivors who switches items in last seconds is extremely toxic and entitled.

In general, the basement is fine. But with Trapper, Hillbilly, Cannibal..?
My point is with any killer that cannot down in one hit, the basement is already risky enough. However when it's one of these very easy one down killers, it becomes inevitable that the entire team will crumble.
You say to "Pay Attention" but when you're in solo que, you're matched with other people that will not pay attention to where they are... I say this from personal experience of other people in my solo que, not because I do it myself.
I don't get why people unironically says "Bad players being extremely bad so killer should be nerfed".
-
"tunneling and camping is toxic asf" -A KILLER MAIN
Okay, I'm a survivor main and survivors shouldn't try to do stupid thing like this, they should be camped and tunneled to immediately removed from game.
-
I will happily trade basement for shack removal on ALL killers.

The reason for that is because you dont generate enough pressure from your first down to get survs off gens.
You job as killer is to get survivors off of gens just as much as it is the survs job to stop you from getting someone out of the game early. Thats why bt and ds are so strong even if theyre prohibitive in their use cases.
If your point is that killer is too weak for your avg match, watch otz' challenge vid, where he played without perks or addons and with 30s afk at the start. Iirc he got 4ks to 3ks mostly.
I also dislike the way you improve, since you dont get to pracc at all with killers and just get thrown into the deep end, but its still far more winnable tahn you think.
Otz won simply because their opponent sucks ass, he is a good player but it doesn't change the fact survivors on his time is weakest of all day.
It's winnable as long as you are matching with weak survivors, against actual good survivors (and there is a time where you match with good survivors only) you NEED to specific sweatfest perks or killer, otz also tend to have hard time against those actual good survivors.

considering that that 2 out of 25 killers are the best and most common killers, i wouldn't say it's nothing. it would be nice to play blight without having to lock yourself with only 3 perks.
Shadowborn doesn't increase vertical FoV, stretched res and shadowborn is entirely different things.
And no, people playing 23 killers are always the majority, stretched res doesn't benefit majority of killers while literally removes mindgames from survivors, it's objectively broken on survivor's side.
-
Playing this game and downing within 25seconds of chase will get you tunneled.
-
But weirdly highest kill rate killers are generally M1 killers with something, pretty strange.
I think game is actually centered around low MMR, even though you can easily get to higher MMR and can't go back.
-
Vertical FOV for killers are useless BTW, two killers out of 25 or so is nothing.
-
BHVR : we fixed nurse
also BHVR : we killed nurse at same time
-
my god, there is actually a person who trying to say cheating is good for the game? bruh...

REAL problem is not camping, not tunneling, not genrushing, it's those who cry when they match with someone trying to win.
We SHOULD tunnel, camp and genrush, that's the how game is meant to be played.

@EntityNea said:
I don't get the complaints.
Boons are a big time waste for survivors, you spend time finding totems, then spend time blessing the totem. Imo the only worthwhile boon is the healing one, but even then it's more efficient to just bring a medkit. I've seen some smart killers just leave a healing boon up because they know survivors will flock there when hurt, so you can easily track them there.
But disregarding whether you agree with this or not, why the complaints? Killers have tons of perk combinations (especially when combined with some killer powers) that make survivors feel completely helpless.
A recent killer build that's nearly unbeatable that i've seen lately is a combination of Pain Resonance, causing the gen with the most progression to blow up when you hook someone, then Dead Man's Switch, to also block this generator for 45 seconds. Add Hex: Ruin on top of that to regress the generator into hell while it's blocked by the entity. For a 4th perk you can choose whatever, Lethal Pursuers to make sure you find survivors instantly since you need that first hook to start blocking gens. Or if you don't need that there's other generator slowdown perks or whatever. Now... Do this on Doctor, bring an offering for a small map (like The Game), and survivors literally cannot win. Your AoE shock as doctor will hit basically the entire map, force people off the generators, trigger Dead Man's Switch, regress the generators for 45 seconds with Ruin boost, and you have all the time in the world to catch the survivors.
My point with this is that the side who wins the game is determined by whoever try-hards the most. This game simply isn't balanced -- For either side. So complaining about "survivors are OP" or "killers are OP" doesn't help, because both sides have OP setups if you combine the right things.
Whoever try-hards the most will "win" the match. But the real winners are those who just play for fun and bring perks that they enjoy using, rather than people who just care about winning. A lot of people forget that the main point of gaming is to have fun, not just whether you scored the highest.
Gens don't regress while blocked, and ruins won't stay more than 30 seconds into a match.
You are overestimating a value of slowdown perks.
Biggest complaint is the fact survivors DOES NOT need anything to be OP, they already have most broken thing in the game... aka palette and windows.

As a Clown main I'm gonna disagree with that completely, unless something has changed in my month break, I won most of my games without tunneling anyone out and it was rarely a sweat fest either, games being done in 4-5 minutes has always been an extremely rare occurrence for me.
It entirely depends on time you play and region you play, the nightmare where only sweatiest survivors live, certainly does exists.
And survivors don't need any 200IQ chase capability or anything to make it happen, just a some amount of "sticking with generator whenever possible" mentality and game will end in 5 minutes unless killer does something great.

The issue with BT and DS is they fix a fundamental game issue, there’s no other way to deal with a killer who is dead set in tunnelling.
And gen regression perks are popular since many killer players think kicking gens is normally a waste of time.
With Dead Hard personally I think it should just be combined with No Mither and David be given another perk to replace the missing one.
And finally with CoH make self healing the same speed as Self Care.
BT and DS doesn't fix fundamental issue, they can buy some time but that's about it.
If they want you to die, you will die no matter what.

How do I get value when I'm chasing survivors in locked generators though?

Literally it should be named that way, because it doesn't help anybody unless a skilled player knows when to use it.
Playing as a survivor should give people the understanding that you play as a team, rather than a solo player. Clearly the game is not built to be played as 1v1, it is built as a 4v1 game.
This game is 1v1v1v1v1 game, only SWF plays as a team.

That doesn't make any sense and has nothing to do with the narrow quote I was responding to. Read a little more closely before responding.
It doesn't make any sense?
Killers try to secure progression by killing a survivor before gates opened and they escape, survivors try to secure progression by rushing a generator before it regress to zero, I don't think it's different at all.
-
Maybe not kill, but injure would be fun.
Skill check build finally become relevant.
-
@Nicholas said:
Killers camp and tunnel even before anything happens, so the excuse that it is a byproduct of gen rushing is hogwash. Tunneling is a core part of the Dead by Daylight Survivor experience. You are periodically guaranteed to get tunneled independent of what you do or what is happening. I've seen it all; The Killer tunnels after a DC and before the completion of a single generator.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2820554#Comment_2820554
Of course, someone will finish that generator because the investment can regress to zero. If the generator stayed locked at 90%, people wouldn't rush to finish it. On the other hand, a killer's investment in that Survivor doesn't regress because they don't get hooked again fast enough.
Killer's investment in survivor regress once gates are opened, there is no difference in 2 hooks escape and 0 hook escape, it's either one of dead or escaped.
So, you are somewhat wrong.
-
@RaSavage42 said:
Well... If Killers didn't use the perk what would you do
Start the Gen you spawned on
Boon/ Cleanse a Totem
Run to start another Gen
I know that both sides find certain perks boring but there isn't much excitement in the base game
Plus sometimes Corrupt makes things worse... not gonna lie
I think it's from killers PoV and I understand it, I don't like corrupt because it's rather hard to get value from this perk.

Never knew that pressing the square that reads "Survive with Friends" that was made by the developers themselves was wrong. We should've known better. How wrong of us...
I guess we should just delete DBD now since our mere existence is too much for killers to handle with.
Honestly yes, existence of SWF is worst thing DbD has, especially when this game is balanced around SoloQ survivors.
Because of SWF, SoloQ suffers, killer suffers, only SWF survivors can have fun and actually win in this game.
"survive with friends" is only there just to stop SWFs from lobby dodging countless times, not because it is intended way to play this game.
They know they just can't stop them.
-
At that point, why not allow you to have "pharmacy medkit" as an item while equipping a perk all the time? just like flashbang.

@MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

Depends.
You tunnelled survivor, they had BT & DS. So yeah on this case, you are giving them free health state. You had chance to run another survivor but you wanted tunnel and you created this case. If you would not tunnel, they would never get value from BT & DS.
But DH is different. It does not matter what you did or how you played. Survivor has 3rd health state.
It doesn't matter if you tunnel or not, some survivors bodyblock with BT because it's free health state.
"You can play around it to negate it" doesn't mean "this perk doesn't grant free health state", what it does IS giving free health state to survivors for limited amount of time, hell, name of the perk itself is "borrowed time".
we don't even need to talk about DH as it's literal broken perk.

I got ticked off and stopped playing killer today because survivors kept leaving teammates to die on their first hook. After a bunch of matches where this happened I got sick of it and quit. It was almost always the first survivor I hooked, beginning of the match, they'd just be left to die for no reason.
I felt bad for those survivors who died. They sat in a loooong ass queue just to die two minutes into the match with fewer than 2k points. In a few of the cases it happened because two of the survivors were together, and they only cared about saving each other.
SWF in general tend to make game worse for everyone I guess.

Who TF said we were playing sweaty?
So everyone who decides to play with their friends and has supported the game since launched is considered sweaty?
Want us to move to another game? Want to gatekeep people from playing SWF now?
We load into a match, do gens, loop for a while, unhook who needs unhooking, make plans according to the situation, leave those who can't be saved... what do you want from us huh? Don't go out demonizing all groups of SWF when most of us just want to play a game.
WE ARE VERY WELL CAPABLE of playing sweaty and we have done so in the past if the situation calls for it, but we're just friends who like DBD so if you don't like us being nice, then cool your choice, but don't act surprised when we retaliate.
Yes? "just playing with friend while sharing information and coordinating everything you bring" is considered sweaty, and having consistent and reliable teammate as is is already extremely sweaty enough.
Game is clearly not designed with survivors having REAL coordination in mind, you are exploiting game design flaw and get mad when other side do same thing? it's ridiculous.

DH is free health state.
BT is gives chance to run next loop against camper and tunneller killers.
DS is gives chance to run away from tunneller killers.
And no, Boil Over garbage perk but we have some good perks does not give you "free health state": Iron Will, Built to Last, Spine Chill, Sprint Burst etc. I would use more fun perks but sadly we need to use DS & BT because without them, you have nothing against camp & tunnel.
DH is free health state, BT is free health state until whatever seconds after unhook, DS is basically free hook state that last 60 seconds.
Basically same thing.
