  • This game has a worse console port than XCOM 2 had. Which is saying a lot.

  • Most perks that give additional blood points need to be buffed, this one included.

  • Here's what I've learned facing Spirit when she's phasing. Uninjured: Walk. Injured move unpredictably. She is 110% after all so once she's out of phase she's easy to loop.

  • @PigMainClaudette said:

For me, it's based around the information that you are given and how you use it.

Being able to hold your own in a chase is also important, but information does still play a huge part in that.

Like realizing that you're the only healthy person and therefore you're the designated unhooker. Or knowing what gens not to do so you don't 3-gen the map.

If you maybe play a bit more survivor against actual smart killer, you would know what takes skill on the survivor side.

The title is actually a rhetorical question. It seems like a killer sided question, but I came at it from a survivor point of view because I've been playing solo a lot recently and some teammates really push my buttons with how inefficient and stupid they play. I know what survivor skill is, and I have that skill. But when my teammates don't and I lose consecutively while they hatch eacape, it feels bad. I'm starting to get sick of it so I'm spreading good advice for the up-and-coming survivor players.

When it comes to survivor I really don't feel any skill unless it's Nurse or Spirit!

Let me start with that my definition of skill is using Basic Character knowledge and observing how the player is playing that character to outplay the other!

When it comes to killers that aren't Nurse or Spirit, I'm feeding off of information to counter that killer and it feels like my hand is being held! Learning how to string loops together really doesn't feel that satisfying me though!

Edit: My phone is ######### up pressed enter and it submitted my comment!

Yeah. Nurse and Spirit are so polarizing because they break the rules of looping. But honestly, they're not as hard to counter as people like to believe. With Nurse, just avoid line of sight and run towards her sometimes as she's blinking to keep her guessing. With Spirit, when she's phasing and you're healthy you walk, and when you're injured you move unpredictably. Beyond that, most killers are not hard to loop. Looping killers a long time by linking tiles together is the funnest thing in the game to me, so I wish killers actually had time to do that instead of play Nurse/Spirit or tunnel/slug.

Survivor skill is not dying 15 seconds after the match starts.

    Cheers to that.

I think the issue is how shallow the game is. Objective one is do gens. Objective two is survive. So, do gens and hide. A boring game for both sides, especially if the survivors are good at hiding and they all hide. If survivors had a requirement to interact with the killer, like another objective that somehow involved the killer more actively, or do things that gave the killer guaranteed chances to find the survivor the games would be longer, more deep, and require survivors to have skill in looping and chase. Also, bodyblocking is toxic and against the core of the game. Protection hits are different, but still scummy.

I meant protection hits, but body blocking is the same thing. It's not scummy, it's just high level play.

Thank you for your continued efforts to showcase how and why things happen on a rational basis - yet I´m afraid this guy´s followers

don´t appreciate when poor plays on his side get pointed out. My favorite streamer can´t possibly be a bad player now can he?

Tru3 isn't a bad player. The game is rigged to be hard against the killer. You're making the most minimal mistakes out to be day-1 noob mistakes. "Oh my God! Why would he ever do that?! He's practically giving survivors the win!" If killers playing suboptimal costs them the game, why is the same not true about survivors? And you don't seem to find anything wrong with how things are. The struggle between killer and survivor should be on a pretty level playing field, but that can't be the case when 12 hooks are needed within a 5-6 minute window. You are putting a lot of pressure on the killer player, don't you think?

I think Scott is one of those people who says they play on both sides just as an empty talking point, because in reality he is always taking the survivor's side. He still thinks killers like Spirit and Deathslinger have "no counterplay". Whereas Tru3 weighs the strength of both sides, saying that both basement Bubba *and* 5 minutes/5 gens are stupid. Spirit it strong *as well as* DS. And I didn't want to bring DBD celebrities into this, but you are the one who went there.

  • I guess we should stop bothering to talk about quick gens and share videos like this, because survivor mains will argue to death that the killer player's skill is the cause of his loss. We're supposed to be robots/mind-readers and they're supposed to be the power role. They won't say it but they think it.

  • @handfulofrain said:

My word, people are whiny. If you're actually decent at the game then not bringing the same 4 perks every game won't hurt.

I did the predator challenge as Wraith with Iron Maiden, BBQ and Surge and 4ked with yellow add-ons.

Just play the game instead of complaining about it

    Try doing it with browns.

  • I hear some people call it overpowered because of the quick attack cooldown you get at higher stacks, but c'mon. It takes so long to get those stacks and you have to actively avoid the obsession or else you lose them.

  • Agree with everything except that tbaggers are rare. More like half of all normal games, and all of the games where they escape.

  • It's too soon for a DBD 2. My biggest fear with that, is that either the 2nd game gets too much more popular which makes the original have a non-existent player base, or the devs stop supporting the first game like not giving us servers to play on.

  • @MonsterInMyMind said:

Just stop playing him once behavior see's his playrate is basically dead they'll revert.

Or keep playing and losing with him and they'll see just how few kills he gets.

  • @Zeus said:

    And the roar.

It's so distracting, unnecessary, and dumb sounding.

  • Deathslinger above Legion as usual. I don't get it.

  • Yeah survivors have such inflated egos in general. I'm playing Trapper at red ranks and I get tbagged. Then they wonder why everybody plays Spirit.

  • So it is in effect? I was wondering why my lobby join happened after 2 minutes instead of 30 seconds. This better not continue. Fast lobby joins are one of the only enjoyable things about playing killer.

  • Yep. There's been tons of DCs lately. They put in a DC punishment and then turn it off. ######### are they doing?

  • An unranked mode is what this game has needed from that start. Better yet, custom rules like Smash Bros has.

  • @Canas said:

I just wonder who even would be the survivor in such a chapter, I don't think any of the z-fighters would fit in there.

Play on PC then, mouse and keyboard should NOT be a thing on console as it gives and unfair advantage. If you don't like controllers go to PC, it's that simple. And go back to school and learn how to write

Not everyone has a gaming PC. So screw the console players? That's what I'm hearing. We'll undoubtedly see a mass exodus from console to PC when cross-progession comes out, which is sad because people shouldn't have to resort to that. How about BHVR make a good console port instead of one that's half-baked in almost every aspect?

  • @JustNxck said:

    Just play on PC...then

as a killer I've not much trouble hitting people who 360 of course your going to miss from time to time...Happens having mouse and keyboard isn't gonna magically make you better you're still going to miss...Less frequently but still.

Don't immediately go for the hit..take a second pause read the survivor if he's someone that abuses 360s just stop when you get close to him focus on him and hit him... works perfectly fine.

Never understood why people play on console and beg of mouse and keyboard...Last thing i need is another game with mouse and keyboard ruining the parity of console play.

Complaints like these are the same as people complaining about DS, NOED and etc.. You're just not playing smart enough.

So basically you're saying to give up. "Should have got it for PC" is an unacceptable answer. If the devs are going to make a console port, they need to at least make it playable. It's clear as day that 360s are easier to do on console because of auto-aim or fps drops or some other reason. Whereas PC players never try to 360 because they know it'll get punished. This difference in playstyle between console and PC should not exist. The players are not the problem, and we shouldn't have to 'adapt' to an exploit that's as simple as spinning the joystick. The devs need to stop making a laughing stock of themselves and give us some better fps and remove the auto-aim. You're doing their dirty work for them by making excuses for their failures.

Hey tunneling works same as gen rushing killer focus on fast and secure hooks. But also killers can get more punish for it. If you wan't killers to stop doing that well maybe when you gen rush them simply stop t-baging at gate and clicking for tilt reaction since tunneling and camping and slugging works against swf since they really wan't to be alturistic. It is not scumy since it is fair tactic...

You assumed that I play toxic as a survivor. You were wrong. Stop hardcore assuming and maybe you'll see the other person's point for once.

Are you invested in the games that you play at all? "Crying over pixels" is a sad excuse for an argument. If you think like that, you probably shouldn't be playing video games. Your time would be better spent on your favorite pastime which appears to be cyberbullying.

If you haven't completed 3 gens in 2 minutes with someone being face camped, you have other issues to look at. I've been in matches where my friend was face camped and was repeatedly tunneled. We still got out but he barely made it. I've been in the same scenario but chalking it up and saying we lost due to scummy plays instead of him playing better and us doing gens instead of running around is also bad. We have plenty of ways to loop a killer. Hell, you can throw pallets early and still outlive the gens in most maps with no looping.

The killer has to outplay to win. Killer can't just sit there and win. You have so many secondary perks to bring you back in the game and do it TWICE. If you STILL can't survive past 3 gens, you really should learn your tiles.

There's more to it than that. Remaining pallets mean little when they're on the other side of the map and you're in a dead zone. Dead zones are created when a killer is tunnel vision on you, probably because they have NOED or something to save them later on. Usually when most of the pallets have been used, too many gens have been done anyway, but not always. Potato teammates allow killers to capitalize on dead zones, and the game is lost. Because of the MMR system being implemented so damn late into this game's lifespan, potato teammates are common. And sometimes you're not SWF and have no idea how hardcore a killer is camping or tunneling, so you can't just know to hardcore gen rush. I can do gens, I can loop good, but I can't beat chance matchups.

I have 3 rules as killer:

    1. If you unhook and im right next to it, I got for the unhooker. However, if i cannot see the unhooker, I will downcand slug the unhookie, and whether or not there's an obsession, determines my hook or slug.

    2. If I'm in chase with a survivor who I know is better than me, I will break the chase at first sight of another individual, regardless of how many times they've been hooked. This sometimes leads to a tunnel death if a survivor makes the decision to be where i am and i see them.

    3. If I see an OoO I will immediately assume SWF and play as harsh as possible no matter how scummy it may be due to how many toxic 4 mans ive run into. Im not saying "boohoo swf bad" im saying ive ran into too many toxic groups to just "play normally" against a suspected SWF. I go hard, and if that means tunnel killing ANYONE, or slugging rapidly and repeatedly, so be it.

Side note: stop looping killers around hooks. They're not camping, youre making the decision to keep them there. It just creates a safe chase for them and a jook timer drainer, ultimately keeping killer pressure.

Survivors who play "optimally" are told that its fine they do so, so why is it bad and scummy for a killer to do so? Double standards, man.

I mentioned nothing of survivors being optimal. You just assumed I like survivors being as much as a power role as they are, which I don't. You're list of reasons were justified and definitely not tunneling, especially if half the team are immersed gamers. I just hate when killers play like that, yet claim it was all skill. I play killer, realize when I'm tunneling, and would never boast about it, simply do the necessary evil *when I'm losing*. There's no justification for killers hardcore slugging or tunneling when 1 or no gens have been done, or when the match is in their favor already.

  • @WeenieDog said:

Though I do agree that some tactics can feel really cheap, I don't think the game as it is really allows killers to play "fair" and win. There just isn't enough time to down and hook survivors one by one. If you do so, there will always be 3 other players on gens and the game can quickly spiral to an end unless you play a killer that can cut chases short incredibility (and such killers are often complained about as being "not fun"). If not then survivors just run from pallet to pallet. Though leaving chase is smartest idea, you still need hooks so abandoning multiple chases can become a bad one and the RNG nature of maps/pallets becomes pretty apparent. If one side gets the more favorable map spawn, the better gamer has already been decided before anyone has even done anything.

I have no idea how they could balance it so fair play would actually be viable for both sides, but we aren't exactly there yet.

Personally, though I can see how things can be boring and do agree on some of them, I'm still going to play the game with the mindset of "this is how it is" and not " this is how I want it to be".

Otherwise, I'd be burned out by always having to follow rule sets that no one else follows. With meta perks being.. well meta. I'd pretty much be saying:

    "I'm morally obligated to lose"

Finally some constructive criticism instead of troglodytes telling me to get better or how they spent their money on their game. The devs are the cause for most of not all of the problems of this game, because they can't balance for #########. If the game was balanced people would still play scummy, but it wouldn't be widespread like this. Currently, killers can choose between tunneling or losing, and that should never have been the case.

  • @HollowsGrief said:

You didn't pay for my game so piss off with trying to tell me how to play. I play to win, I have fun when I win so I do what it takes to win, which is forcing people like you to make bad decisions. You wanna wait until the hooked guy is 10s away from second state so you can finish that gen? No problem, I'm gonna go back to the hook and make sure he goes second state before I let you unhook him, then I'm going to make you trade so I get YOU on the hook too, hope that gen was worth it because I just got 3 hooks worth of value out of it.

So you'd rather survivors unhook as soon as you leave? Are you sure you wouldn't come straight back to hook either way, or are you only presenting half an argument?

  • @csax said:

Survivors don't say gg most of the time even if they all get 3 hooks, so what's it matter?

If they have looped the killer well and had fun with it, they'll say GG. If they did badly in a chase or 2 and their teammates were allergic to gens, they won't say GG because it wasn't one for them.

  • @PigMainClaudette said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1504557#Comment_1504557

So just because I can't hold a chase to the level of Otz, Tru3 or No0b3 means that I should just run the single most hated build, and perks that I myself don't want to run, just to deal with the fact that someone else doesn't want to play the same way that I do when I'm playing killer? Is that what you're saying?

When I get camped or tunnelled consistently, I don't want to "improve" my game, I want to switch it. I don't want to play any more because I am miserable. And this is the mindset of the average player here. If I'm not happy, then I'm going to move on and that's a shame because I really like Dead by Daylight.

You call yourself a voice of REASON but that statement is anything but. "Just get better at the game" well I'm sorry, but that's not exactly how that works. There's a line between needing improvement, and just being unable to do anything. Currently I feel helpless. I'm stuck in purple ranks because I'm good enough to safety pip, but my team are all brown ranks and high red killers. When I switch to killer, I've accidentally dropped to brown through neglect and what do I get? REDS! REDS EVERYWHERE! Now, some of them I can kill, but when I'm put against a full SWF red squad with two flashlights on a killer I'm playing for the first time, then I just don't see a point in playing at all. That mindset to me is bred from the idea of "Play however you want." and it will drive away more players than it will keep.

This is still a GAME and they are designed for FUN, not data entry. I personally couldn't care if all 4 survivors escape as long as I had a good time chasing them down, and it's why I play Pig and Legion. Somewhere along the way, seeing those little skulls on the endscreen for all of 30 seconds became more important than the 15 minutes that happened beforehand and it's just despicable.

Exactly. That comes back to my original post. The killers play extremely lame then claim "you're just bad and I'm just good". It's not that they played that way that pisses me off, it's that they claim it was pure skill. Then they say that we have all these crutch perks and SWF to deal with their 'playstyle', but what if we don't have that? It's an assumption of the highest order. These killers, who I thought most had valid opinions since I'm a former killer main, turned out to have zero argument besides "get good, don't lose." I also expected survivor mains to come out in droves to support me, but they either like disagreeing regardless of the poster's point, or they're just on an off day. Either way, I expected more people to get my point, like you did.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1503858#Comment_1503858

That's the point. No one is preventing you from playing. You can still get unhooked. If you suck at being chased, learn to loop better. Don't try to penalize the killer because he/she is efficient. You have BT, DH, SB and even DS to get away. If you still get downed multiple times in a match, that's on you. They also have swivel hooks. Suggesting that a killer is scummy for taking you out tells me more about your skill than the killer.

That's assuming all of your survivors have all of the meta perks and fit exactly the situation you're in. Sometimes DS is useless. Sometimes Unbreakable is useless. Sometimes Dead Hard refuses to come out. You can't just chalk this up to "get better" when all a killer does is camp and tunnel. A 3v1 is not a winnable situation for survivors if 3-4 gens haven't been done already. So all these killers are doing is tunneling for the 3v1 and then getting an easy game.

I play to win. You obviously don't. Stop being a scrub, and play to win.

    http://www.sirlin.net/ptw

Here is an excerpt from the book that describes exactly you right now:

The derogatory term “scrub” means several different things. One definition is someone (especially a game player) who is not good at something (especially a game). By this definition, we all start out as scrubs, and there is certainly no shame in that. I mean the term differently, though. A scrub is a player who is handicapped by self-imposed rules that the game knows nothing about. A scrub does not play to win.

Now, everyone begins as a poor player—it takes time to learn a game to get to a point where you know what you’re doing. There is the mistaken notion, though, that by merely continuing to play or “learn” the game, one can become a top player. In reality, the “scrub” has many more mental obstacles to overcome than anything actually going on during the game. The scrub has lost the game even before it starts. He’s lost the game even before deciding which game to play. His problem? He does not play to win.

The scrub would take great issue with this statement for he usually believes that he is playing to win, but he is bound up by an intricate construct of fictitious rules that prevents him from ever truly competing. These made-up rules vary from game to game, of course, but their character remains constant. Let’s take a fighting game off of which I’ve made my gaming career: Street Fighter.

In Street Fighter, the scrub labels a wide variety of tactics and situations “cheap.” This “cheapness” is truly the mantra of the scrub. Performing a throw on someone is often called cheap. A throw is a special kind of move that grabs an opponent and damages him, even when the opponent is defending against all other kinds of attacks. The entire purpose of the throw is to be able to damage an opponent who sits and blocks and doesn’t attack. As far as the game is concerned, throwing is an integral part of the design—it’s meant to be there—yet the scrub has constructed his own set of principles in his mind that state he should be totally impervious to all attacks while blocking. The scrub thinks of blocking as a kind of magic shield that will protect him indefinitely. Why? Exploring the reasoning is futile since the notion is ridiculous from the start.

You will not see a classic scrub throw his opponent five times in a row. But why not? What if doing so is strategically the sequence of moves that optimizes his chances of winning? Here we’ve encountered our first clash: the scrub is only willing to play to win within his own made-up mental set of rules. These rules can be staggeringly arbitrary. If you beat a scrub by throwing projectile attacks at him, keeping your distance and preventing him from getting near you—that’s cheap. If you throw him repeatedly, that’s cheap, too. We’ve covered that one. If you block for fifty seconds doing no moves, that’s cheap. Nearly anything you do that ends up making you win is a prime candidate for being called cheap. Street Fighter was just one example; I could have picked any competitive game at all.

    You. Are. A. Scrub.

Sorry to break the news to you but I'm not a scrub. I can run a killer for 3+ gens with a competent team. Sometimes you don't get a competent, and also get a scummy killer. I'm less mad about the fact that the killer played scummy, I'm mad that he thinks he played skilfully. "GG EZ" when he cheated out tons of chases and hook states with NOED or a mori. Anyone can *say* it was pure skill under those conditions, it just wouldn't be true. So thanks for the dictionary, Einstein, but scrubs have nothing to do with this discussion.

If you read even a sentence of what I wrote, I explained multiple reasons why it's killer favored. The 3rd graders I teach could comprehend what I said so I'm sure you can as well.

Your argument is invalid because it is not a "free win". You have to find it before the killer who is faster than you and have powers. If the killer finds it first, it's pretty much a loss because the gates are almost always on the same side of the map.

Then if you have Whispers on, that makes the search even easier.

But they're being given the chance to escape for free. Closing the hatch doesn't guarantee the kill either, because the exit gates are never THAT close to each other. All the survivor has to do is wait for the killer to close the hatch, wait at a gate and start opening it as soon as the egc starts, and unless the killer goes straight there, the survivor escapes. That's why these endgame mechanics suck, because they're decided by coin flips and not at all by skill. Keys make it even easier because you can escape before the gens are even done, literally a shortcut around the objective. Removing keys means nothing if hatch stays, it's just one less second chance.

  • What's worse: DC penalties are turned off because of hackers or something stupid. So the feature that we've all been asking for has been implemented, it's just turned off for a stupid reason.

  • Are you sure you don't have it all backwards?

  • @brokedownpalace said:

Hatch escapes would just have less of an impact on someone's score. As would moris, I assume. Also, if you think EGC means hatch isn't necessary then that means you do not understand the purpose of the hatch to begin with.

Do they have less of an impact on someone's score right now? No, the survivors get bonus points for it and killers get robbed of a kill. To my knowledge hatch was put in to stop survivors from taking the game hostage. Maybe instead of hatch, which gives undeserved escapes rather than fulfilling its purpose, egc just starts when there's 1 survivor left. My version of egc would not power the gates, but I'll throw survivors a bone and say they should be powered. Problem solved.

  • @LetsPlayTogether said:

If you have issues with DS at high ranks you should think if you really belong into these ranks, cause if youre that fast downing all other survivors that you have to get hit by a DS and cant handle these tiny stun something is really wrong.

It's not a tiny stun, it's quite massive. Having to loop, down, and hook them AGAIN will definitely cost you a gen or 2. DS has no counterplay because if you're not taking the stun you're slugging them only for them to get a free pick up and heal again.

  • @Kilmeran said:

I play both sides and I agree with you. Survivors need to be locked into loadout from the time they click READY.

At this point, what BHVR should do is remove the lobby section entirely. You (or your group) click Ready, it searches, and upon making a match takes everyone directly to offering burning screen, then the loading screen, then into the map.

As it stands right now, I don't even feel like playing once this hits PC. I think I might just continue my break and see how this all shakes out before deciding to return or not.

Oh, is this about a new update or something? Did killers get nerfed again?

  • Unless he has creative control that doesn't mean anything. The devs need to be altogether on this, not just 1. Besides, I didn't know that. But getting to survivor rank 1 is cake anyway, especially with SWF.

Are you seriously that bored? Nobody in this thread care about a single thing you have to say. You’ve already shown your bias. If you have an issue with what we’re saying, I suggest you send these essays to the Devs. Ya know, the ones who said it was bannable in the first place.

Why do you seem to think you know this game better than the people that created it? You’re seriously delusional. Reply to me if you want, but I won’t be replying to you. This response was already more than you deserved.

Because the players do know more about the game than the developers. If they were rank 1 survivor and killer, we'd hold them on a higher podium. But they're rank 20 in each role. Definitely not the kind of people who know how to balance the game.

  • They said they 'nerfed' gen rush but they really didn't. It only affects multiple people being on a generator, and only makes it a few seconds slower.

  • @wildcardyo said:

Some of these maps are flat out broken and need to be looked at.

Just had a game on preschool with 16+ pallets, about 12 of them used before all 5 gens were completed. Nobody looped with them efficiently. Instead everyone just ran to them and immediately burned them without making space for themselves.

The best survivors I see frequently waste a ton of the killer's time with just 1 pallet. If the players in that game had played like the best survivors I've seen, then only 6 or so pallets would have been used before the gens were done. Meaning there would only be another 10 or so left to make it to the exit gates.

What kind of sick joke is this game across the boards? Devs basically condone the principle of the majority bullying minorities systematically through these horrific balance issues. Especially when you take into account how SWFs can escalate harassment, taunting and trolling to completely ruin a solo players experience like a gang. If its not significant abuse in the game from the balance issues and intentionally trying to irritate the solo player, then it is certainly in the end game chat whether survivors win or lose. All the killers are characters that are weird and the players behind them are receiving high school bully treatment because the devs designed it this way. This game manufactures toxicity by utilizing asymmetric game play to foster an environment of isolating the weaker faction.

I thought we were in an era of democracy, equal freedoms and civil rights. I challenge every single dev of this game to grind out 150 games of killer and see how you feel by the end of it when you are fighting against experienced players and gangs.

They aren't up to it. They're all rank 20 survivor mains that tbag.

  • I don't understand why all the gens have to be done for the killer to be able to open the gates. They should be openable by the killer at any time.
