  • Yeah i flat out refuse to play survivor. I tried it with a friend who invited me. It was miserable. Had a match with a chucky who HARD..like unbelievably HARD tunneled a lara croft. I attempted to body block and he wouldn't even swing at me, only focused on the lara croft. All 5 gens were done and only 3 hooks occurred all on the same player who was targeted. before that it was two matches where it was rampant slugging AND tunneling. In fact I think I have had one match in 1v4 since THE SYART of 2v8 where hard tunneling and/or rampant slugging did not occur.

Theyre already complaining about killer q times. Well this is why. You play in a manner that makes no-one want to play. You can only blame yourself for the rising q times.

even with your proposed figure changes it still doesnt solve the issue that certain low tier killers NEED to tunnel hard against good survivors so the changes would either have no effect or essentially kill the killer role. maybe the devs have realised this and dont want every match to be v same 3/4 killers as they are they only ones to perform good enough without tunneling. if i have to v nurse or blight more than i already do i wouldnt touch survivor. i rather tunneling remain and atleast go against a variety of killers. its not just tweaks thats needed its a whole new system thats needed.

if you NEED to tunnel then you are playing out of your skillset and playing against people better than you. That is going to happen. You are going to lose at some point. Yall need to except the loss and allow mmr (which noone can see, so ego wont be harmed), to drop to a level where your natural skillset is viable. Thats what mmr is for, pairing players of similar skill against each other. By tunneling for that desperate cheese method of a win, you are artificially inflating your mmr which forces you to continue to tunnel. An actual self-fulfilling prophecy. The comp kid desperation for a win is the only thing keep the myth "tunneling is necessary" alive.

This update is a neccesary evil that needs to happen. Numbers tweaked a bit, but ever since they cancelled it, the following things have happened:
    1. Slugging has increased 3x
    2. Tunnelling at 4-5 gens has been easily doubled
    3. I've had certain killers basically abuse their ability to rush someone out, which I havent seen since anti-facecamp was introduced.

At this point, just release the update with reduced numbers.

    "But killers do their job"
You know who else was just doing their job of surviving? Survivors. Yet, we have window blockers. We have a basekit slowdown if 2 survivors are on 1 gen. We have conspicious actions to cancel perks like DS and BT. We have exhaustion introduced as a generic status effect affecting exhaustion perks. We have hooks respawning within 30 seconds instead of 3 minutes, which is already a reduction because hooks never used to respawn.
All that, was just survivors doing their job of surviving too. All of those were neccesary evils that needed to be introduced for killers to have fun, most of those mechanics needed tweaks after implementation but they were implemented regardless because people were done.

Now a neccesary evil is introduced on killer side to ensure survivors having fun. Survivors are done with playing in this way. Yet not its being pushed back another 3 months just because killers dont want their toy taken away?

i hate the "killers job is supposed to kill" argument. Yes, that is a part of it but the actual job description is to serve the entity. The devs are essentially the entity and despite chickening out of an update they have blatantly stated that this behavior is toxic, frowned upon, and will be addressed in future updates.

    @SigmaLord said:

    So…

Killers that need BP - Can't tunnel
Killers that are already masters and have everything - Can tunnel

Well. If you reread I also suggested that it punishes iridescent shards and devotion, so they would be robbed of the potential to unlock free cosmetics and characters. I said it in the first section labeled "endgame feedback".

  • @brewingtea said:

You're getting downvoted because even words on a screen are "too punishing" for killer.

Honestly lol. Tunneling is deeply engrained into them any threat or pressure against it is a threat to their very livelihood. Some gamers are in it for themselves and don't care about overall game/community health.

  • ive seen two cheaters in about two months and both were doing it obviously and for the memes. One was in 2v8 and they were invisbile and spammed the heal power so it looked like a black hole was spawning in the map. Most of the lobby stayed to die for in game collapse for the killers which was nice. The other was a month or two prior and it was a duo with speed hacks while i was killer. they were honestly hilarious and i held drag races with them. Both got disconnected mid match so I assume they were banned mid match.

I dont think DBD has a serious cheater problem, people cheat yes, but its not super common in my experience.

However I do think DBD has a salt problem. I cannot tell you how many times ive been reported for cheating because…believe it or not….i can infact see your roblox esque tails on yui when you're hiding. And here your footsteps while creeping around. Other times its just bad luck or prediction.

personally i would like to see an official statistic of genuine cases of cheating and people just being salty and reporting.

That being said. one cheater is too many and they should be hardware, software, IP, and whatever other ban you can think of. they're the scum of the video game community….unless theyre funny about then i forgive em.

  • The introduction of ranked modes only serves to make the game a dedicated comp game. Sweaty comp kids whose ego hinges on a win will swarm into DBD, all the while the casual players will leave in mass. 2v8 is popular because of how casual it is, and how non competitive it is. There are small private tournaments…but they are small for a reason…the overall DBD community is not interested in the prestige of being "really good at a video game". The community wants to have fun, the comp kids want validation. Comp means rank and ranked means elitism and bragging rights. We already have "you don't have 3k hours in the game so your opinion is invalid", we don't need that worsened because of digital rank that means nothing in the real world. Go to valorant and if you arent radiant…well then youre not a real gamer. LoL, if you arent at least grandmaster then just uninstall noob (its repeatedly ranked the most toxic community for a reason). Marvel Rivals…same thing. Heck if you dont play the specific character and the specific meta strategy, expect to get flamed. Furthermore, people already complain about DBD cheaters….ranked comp games attract a significantly higher amount of cheaters.

Comp players are motivated by serious gameplay and a strong sense of validation for winning. Winning is all that matters. It is a festering ground for toxicity and cheaters.

Casual players are motivated by the desire to have fun and are less serious. Having fun is all that matters.

After working full-time, and going to college full-time….I would much rather the casual kids than a comp kid who will yell at me for not being meta or insult me for whatever reason. I think most gamers (not all) agree with me there.

So my question is this: Why does comp matter so much in a video game? Why do digital ranks and digital bragging rights matter that much? Is it simply a case of needing something visual as a badge of honor? Is it an ego thing? I don't get it, you can still win without ranked modes and digital trophies that reset every season…what's the point outside of ego?

  • a survivor t-bagging and emoting does not stop you from playing the game. You can compose yourself and go after the other three survivors. I very RARELY ever experience these sorts of toxic survivors. Sitting at the exit gate? yeah that's common but it is not just to be toxic. some wait for the other team mates to ensure safety. some want that extra points of chase and escape. Others feel bad for the killer and want to give them extra points by giving them one extra hit. Sometimes it is indeed toxic, but more often than not, it is the assumption of toxicity and not a genuine act of such.

Tunneling and slugging on the other hand, robs the other players of the ability to play the match. Sitting on the ground for four minutes is not fun nor engaging and only pleases the pettiness of the killer. Tunneling is the intentional targeting and removal of one specific player. You take them out of the game ASAP which can feel like harassment and ruins their chance of playing the game.

Crouching up and down and pointing does not remove you from the game. Tunneling and slugging does. Imagine if as killer when you are stunned twice, you cannot do anything for four minutes or until you are saved by whatever hypothetical means. But the moment you are able to play again you are immediately met with more stuns before you even have the chance to fully recuperate.

Essentially both are toxic. Survivor toxicity does not effect the match as often or as severely as killer tunneling/slugging since it does not remove the ability to play. for killer it is literally a case of "just walk away". Survivor toxicity only amounts to annoyance, it does not remove the ability to play. This argument of "but survivors are toxic so killers can be toxic too!" and vice versa, is childish. If a child came up to you and called you a poopy head would you start calling all children poopy heads, or would you do the grown up thing and move on? Just because someone commits an evil act does not mean you can do so freely. Being toxic because you perceive others to be toxic, only creates a vicious cycle of toxicity. Someone was toxic to you, so now you are toxic to someone else, and now that person is toxic to another, and so on and so forth. Its a virus spread from the immaturity of the community.

I’ll get straight to the point:

This game desperately needs an alternative mode to the standard 1v4. There are too many killers, too many survivors, and—above all—WAY TOO MANY PERKS.

Every update adds more, and at this point it’s impossible to keep track of them all. Even the perks we already know are constantly being reworked, buffed, or nerfed.

2v8 wasn’t just fun because it was “new.” What truly made it special was the CLASS SYSTEM. Clear, limited roles gave both killers and survivors a fresh way to play—without drowning in an endless sea of perks. For the first time, the gameplay felt straightforward, balanced, and creative. That simplicity was the real innovation, and it showed that sometimes LESS REALLY IS MORE.

I know I’m not alone. A lot of players I know uninstall the game whenever 2v8 disappears. Many of us already have thousands of hours played, and the base game just doesn’t feel engaging anymore. We’d happily keep playing regularly, but instead we’re left waiting until the mode comes back. I’ve even stopped buying cosmetics or new content—why spend money on a game I can’t enjoy whenever I want?

In short: if 2v8 isn’t coming back permanently, please consider an alternative game mode with classes. What do you think?

i only play survivor during 2v8 and just enough for rewards in other events. 2v8 is so much better and more casual. 1v4 is just sweaty comp kids seeking validation and occasionally you get a good match where noone is tunneled out

  • two things:

    1. Its constant tunneling. i refuse to play survivor now that 2v8 is gone. There is a reason why bp bonus is only ever for survivor

    2. yall gotta stop saying "objectively" with your opinions. Hyperbole is already a problem, don't ruin this word too.

  • I would like it so killers can abandon whenever. Sometimes you just get the most toxic surviviors or something comes up. Other times youre trying a killer out for the first time and you get the most skilled swf ever.

I would also like it to let survivors abandon if theyre being tunneled. theyre gonna be out of the game anyway, at least let them end it on their own terms.

  • I am all for the change for a few main reasons:

    1. does not effect scratch mirror and that is the funnest/funniest build
    2. I am tired of every myers ever running tombstone
    3. I am tired of every myers ever running infinite T3
  • The drum perk is absolute peak. And im excited to pair it with someone who has scene partner and another with bardic inspiration. Soon the official DBD band will be a thing. IDK what the band name will be. im thinking "my chemical imbalance" or "grizzly mountain belly band".

other than that…perks are alright. nothing that really makes me go "whoa". The exposed one would be good for maybe a down or two on high mobility killers

  • comp kids want it to be competitive but it isnt. Go into a match with the intent to goof off and youll find all the survivors are like "word, we memein then". The fact that 2v8 almost annihialtes regular 1v4 in players shows that community as a whole prefers the casual more relaxed mode over the more competitive mode.

comp kids are just really really loud about wanting it to be comp while the rest of us are just tryin to vibe

  • @PyramidFootLicker said:

Please don't say distortion, literally tokens now burn out completely for me during chase as I get them and the moment they start recharging the killer breaks chase and goes somewhere else and the process repeats itself, I spend the game constantly recharging one token that gets destroyed the instant I have it again.

it's getting to a point where solo-queue just seems unfun against pure aura reading builds, no suspense, just the assumption that the killer knows where you are thank god for scene partner sometimes but at least with stealth killers having aura reading built into their kit makes sense but plague for example? aura vomit with lethal and other aura perks? might as well just rush the gens before she can even walk to the other side of the map or hope you don't play around loops with large walls.

distortion is essentially useless. Heres what you can do:

locker → when you're COMPLETLEY inside there is no aura but they still can get killer instinct on you

boon: shadowstep → when you're in this boon radius…no aura. but usually gets snuffed pretty quick

Generators → less reliable but you can hide behind the aura of the generator to mask yours

Object of Obsession → you show eachother your auras every now and then and any time your aura is revelead so is there. Hilarious when they have weave atonement and frankies combo.

other than that the best you can do is try to guess what aura perk there is and always ALWAYS assume aura reading. Obseesion exposed on hook? thats friends till the end and very common, just get in a locker before the hook if ur obsession. Kicks gen and knows exactly where you are? thats knowhere to hide just move far away from the gen like in 2v8, same thing.

    MY RECOMMENDATION:

Theres nothing survivors can do against the absurd amount of aura perks, abilities, and add-ons. Run a solid chase build and stealth when you can. You will get caught, you would anyway. but at least you can make it annoying for em. Ill post my two builds that get me good chases. Got like a 60% escape rate on my yui cuz of these

    Build 1:

Fixated - you walk way faster and is god tier for ratting around corners while exhausted or even around loops. keeps momentum going.

Finesse - vault Hella fast when healthy, has a cooldown. Saved my life SO many times.

Vigil - Reduces exhaustion, exposed, hemorrhage, hindered, mangled, and oblivious by 40%. So all those exposed perks…less of a problem. plus you can get SB back mid chase with fixated.

Sprint Burst - Big zoom without the terrible RNG of scene partner. Great for ruining stealth killers and legion

    Build 2:

Scene partner: Every time you scream you see the killer aura for 6 seconds

Eyes of Belmont: Every time a gen is done you see killer aura, also increases aura of other perks by two seconds so its great with scene partner

    Finesse: life saver

    Sprint burst: life saver

NOTE: probably a good idea to run off the record or some other anti-tunnel perk since its every match right now. Personally i swapped finesse with shoulder the burden to help those less skilled at looping and are getting tunneled.

There are literally hundreds of videos and thousands of posts demonstrating, with concrete evidence, why the current iteration was not good.

This wall of evidence was so thick that BHVR made a statement a couple of days into the PTB indicating as much.

Objectively, it should not be going live until these issues which, again, have hundreds of captured examples, are addressed.

The foot stomping and whining from some users is simply wild, particularly when no effort is made to refute the very real evidence that exists.

The system is going to be tweaked and brought back in a better form that presumably addresses its current issues - there is no need to be upset or descend into histrionics.

because tunneling and slugging has been a massive issue for so long and have only picked up in frequency as more comp "i gotta do what youtuber tells me to do" kids have been flooding in. Survivors had hope for the first time in like….ever…that maybe they could go into a match wihtout worrying if theyll be allowed to have fun or if theyll be bled out or tunneled out. YOu ever notice how the BP bonus is only ever for survivors? Noone wants to play it because its misery and the one gleam of hope was taken away because tunnelers are very very very loud about anything that slightly inconveniences them.

the crash out is because they said "too punishing for killers" meanwhile survivors have punished via tunneling, camping, and slugging for YEARS. yet no shining armor of the bhvr emblem came for them. Theyre frustrated and burnt out. Tunnelers and comp kids have ruined any spark of joy for survivors.

I think two of the biggest things they can do to strengthen their MRR system is to lock or remove the lobby, and to raise the soft cap again.

I've always believed the lobby dodging and shopping around that results in the awful backfilling problem is th worse issue for MMR to function properly.

As for the soft cap, they did make things much more strict a couple of years back. The complaints about that were those sweats had to wait too long and got burnt out constantly going against other sweats. Perhaps we should revisit this.

high key wish we went back to the old emblem system. felt way more balanced back then. or just remove mmr all together. evetns have no mmr and theyre great fun

This thread and the reactions are a perfect example of why come here rarely now.

You point to an argument, to a whole explanation video that speaks about strengths, weaknesses, balance, META: nothing helps. Doesn't fit the bias.

I know the game is supposed to be for mature audiences but I'm pretty sure we are surrounded by kids.

I'm off, I've seen enough for a while.

maybe these reactions should prove to you, or at least put the seed in your head that….your opinion might not be entirely correct.

Also. not everyone has the time to dedicate half their existence to a video game. they work. they go to school. I myself work and go to school full time. Also people just tend to not take video games all that seriously with the exception of a small percentage of gamers. People want to have fun and could generally care less about being the best or dedicate thousands of hours to appease this community.

As for anti-tunnel perks. many are locked behind a paywall (decisive strike) not everyone want to fork over several dollars for a single perk. The ability to counter a frustrating and toxic playstyle should not be locked behind a paywall.

Especially after they announced the measures we NEEDED and postponed it to god knows when.

I can't play killer with 8-12 minutes queue time aswell. Maybe queue times will become better once 2v8 is gone.

theyre usually better after 2v8. most people go to 2v8 because….and let me say loud for the tunnelers in back. ITS NOT COMPETITIVE and far more casual. Alot harder to tunnel and camp in that mode

    "adjustments"?

For me it's not even about the added difficulty (that makes even more killers more useless they already are).

The mechanic felt ridiculous as a whole. (And so easily exploitable.)

Honestly, given how stupid that new mechanic attempt is, I wouldn't have minded the devs to actually do it, just so they see how badly it kills the game.

Any experienced player could tell how bad it smelled.

Beside teaching the survivors to use the perks that already punish the killer for tunneling (and not tunneling as DS so often do) I'm not sure how to "fix" the problem. (Assuming it is a problem, which I'm not convinced of.)

    But that idea? Oh boy.

yeah im not gonna watch a 50 painfully boring and bias video. I dont watch people play video games anyway. I play the video game…why am i gonna watch some dude also play it?

but seeing how your phrase of the day is "how is it" i got one for ya

How is it that you guys cannot see past your own ego and see how harmful this is to a healthy, mutually enjoyable community?

I found out improving at looping and using the appropriate perks help a lot with that.

I loop fine. still not fun watching some other dude get tunneled at 5 gens. If your gameplay causes mass hate and anger…probably says something about that specific playstyle.

Continue to perpetuate toxic divisive behavior and fuel the fire of the incredibly "us vs them" mentality!!??

    ✨oooooooh yeah!😍✨

  • "feels too punishing for killer". Yall ever log into a match as survivor just to get tunneled out at 5 gens as punishment for playing survivor so you cant actually play the game?

  • new killers DO NOT go against new survivors. Had two people try regular 1v4 as killer during the last 2v8 cycle. neither had even 3 hours in game and yet their "new player" lobbies had p100 and players with over 1k hours. consistently. First game ever….full streamer bully squad with 2 p100. The mmr system is a joke

  • @JPLongstreet said:

As the 2v8 mode repeatedly shows us, the game simply doesn't have the player count to support splitting the community.

I think the overwhelming success of 2v8 also shows the community really doesnt want a competitive mode…they want to have fun

  • ranked mode has never fixed this behavior in any game. it just makes the game more competitive and they go to "casual" mode to stomp on people after ranked mode hurt their ego. The only thing adding a ranked mode would do is make this well and truely a competitive e-sports type of game. causing a further influx of "I have to be the best" players, influx of cheaters to show off their rank, and the mass exodus of "I just wanna have fun" players.

The issue isn't the game or lack of ranked mode. Its the hyper-competitive mindset and the absolute desperation for dopamine and external validation of being really really good at a video game. The type of kids who turn mario party into a tactical strategic game where not having the most stars means theyre a failure to their entire bloodline. Like no…you can have competition and stil be casual and fun. Comp kids are generally incapable of it and mask their anger through disingenuous "gg" at the end of a match.

I see two pathways here. The ones who sweat so hard and play so toxic that noone else is allowed to have should go to therapy and take to heart the "winning isnt everything" philosophy. Or the devs need to figure out the identity of DBD. Do they want this to be yet another competitive game with an insanely toxic community like valorant, marvel rivals, LoL, etc. Or Do they want this to be a game only focused on mutual fun and enjoyment.

Back when i first started DBD in 2017, I played to win and often went too hard on the survivors. It only ever left the end game chat with hate. I got bored of that because its been almost a decade and I grew up. Now I play, yes to win, but also with humor and personality. The vast majority of survivors are goobers and will joke around too if you let them. Heck I was doing scratched mirror Myers on a 4 man swf streamer. I was DOMINATING them. But i also played with personality and humor where the end game chat was hilarious and wholesome. One of the streamers was laughing so hard at the match they were weazing. This is what DBD has the potential to be. Funny and Positive but also PVP. Not this "Us vs Them"..""show me your stats or your opinion is invalid"…"Im not responsible for your fun", crap that this game has become.

I realize this comes off and aggressive and rude. Sorry for that. But i have seen too many games lose its spark and joyful community after the competitive e-sports community claims it as theirs.

  • Every match in 1v4 ive had this past week with the exception of a few have been hard tunneling. At this point i feel like theyre doing it to be petty about the almost update. Even in 2v8 im seeing more tunneling than usual. so shoutout to the devs for pulling out a carpet pull and showing the toxic parts of the community that they can continue to make us all miserable.

  • The issue is the influx of hyper-competitive players. One thing matter and one thing only…ego. They NEED that dopamine hit to hit. the validation of dominating another human. The "winning isnt everything"….they skipped that day in pre-school. Only way to make this community focused on mutual exchanges of enjoyment and respect is to remove any aspect of "tournament e-sports" kids. Playing to win is fine, everyone does that. But his community takes it way to far and acts like their next meal depends on a 4k or making the killer DC. Comp is the death of casual enjoyment and laughter and I will die on that hill.

  • @ad19970 said:

Well there goes my reason to maybe come back to this game for now, as the anti-tunneling and anti-slugging changes are being delayed for who knows how long, alongside the buffs to none tunneling strategies that I was very much looking forward to.

I do get that these fundamental changes probably would have needed some tuning in favor of the killer, but honestly, I fail to see how number changes wouldn't have been enough to make these new systems work. Increasing the rewards for killers when not tunneling and maybe decreasing the thresholds for certain systems to come into play or decreasing certain effects of these systems would have honestly been enough.

At this point I can only pray that more and more survivors finally get fed up with this game and stop playing it, leaving killers with even longer killer queue times. This might pressure BHVR into getting these systems out as quick as possible.

yeah im not touching survivor till they implement some sort of anti-tunneling. i only play survivor in evetns like 2v8

  • @About8Genjis said:

The sad part is is that it isn't because of the game itself, but rather the lack of moderation or consequences.

I had 3 games in a row in 2v8, 2 as survivor, 1 as killer. In ALL 3 of them where there TWO survivors that straight up gave up, trolled and grieved. And the worst one was the last one I had as a survivor, where there were 2 survivors that did NOTHING all game, refused to do gens and just camped lockers with both them having a key. They abandoned all mates and escaped with hatch.

The worst part? Both killers… were fine with this and tried to troll in end-game chat saying nothing but nonsense and spamming "report (their own names)"…

It's one thing if one side start throwing, but entirely another if even the other side straight up endorses this type of behaviour and does nothing against it, not even doing as little as a hitting the report button.

I had zero fun in those matches cause they were over in 5 minutes with half of the players having been scammed of a good game, while the other half is trying to farm rage messages and breaking in-game rules, with their accounts flooded with comments of people who also explain how their matches were ruined by their behaviour.

The other matches were okay at least, but even then were there moments (mostly in the late-game) where a survivor on death hook tries to rat out another survivor in exchange for an escape or goes afk.

There is a chance I will return most likely to the game, but right now it feels like game just hates me and matches me with the worst type of players that shouldn't even have hit "Play" to begin with. And sorry for the rant, I just wanted to get it out there, cause stuff like this can just destroy and sort of fun one might have had with an otherwise unique and gameplay-wise interesting game.

I hope that all your future matches are free of such bad apples, cause man… it hurts my soul.

Honestly im very close to that as well. @v8 lost its flair for me because every match its the same killers (always legion) and that got stale. So i went to 1v4 for variety and my god it is the most miserable thing i have ever had the displeasure of being exposed to. Killer was great…made a lot of good friends as jumpscare myers, ghostface, and backpack trapper. Survivor. You could not pay me to even consider playing that right now. Ill touch it just enough for the new survivor achievements but not outside of that.

  • every match not in 2v8 has been tunneling, camping, slugging, or any combination of the three. yesterday it was this and today it was this. Myers with infinite tier three (oh wow what asurprise) who tunneled one dude till death. Why? everyone is one hit down and u go after the injured dude? immedietly after it was twins which to my surprise didnt slug so much, no instead what they did was camp and tunnel.

Amazing back pedal on the PTB guys! def woulda sucked be able to enjoy a match as survivor. Once 2v8 is gone im going backto not touching survivor until the new chapter (for the achievements) and for events.

  • yeah Mori used to be interesting and rare and lost its flare. Then people started to HARD tunnel with the mori….i can generally tell if there is a mori by the severity and dedication of the tunnel. And then the free last survivor mori and it happens most matches. It lost its feel and "oh snap im getting moried!!!" reaction. I do get hyped with special mori likes sadakos condemened mori just becuase its so rare

  • i was haaving map offering problem as well. in 20 matches i got the map i wanted ONE time. Im convinced it was just regular RNG and not the map offering that gave me it. they are well and truely useless

  • As long as scratched mirror myers is a thing idc. but if they remove scratched mirror myers then we riot. We dont need yet another dash killer. We need more fun spooky jumpscares.

Gaslighting that survivors won't abuse the hell out of this to make bad plays, weaponize it, and generally be twats as if we didn't live through old ds where if the killer downed anyone they could get off with no issues, or MFT for extending chases forever, or even abusing the streetwise but with glee

not saying they wont or aren't. literally said its "something I'm concerned about".

I play by the "Thou shalt not tunnel or camp" rules as well, but I'm already running into players exploiting this (intentionally or otherwise.) I was playing PTB as Shape, chasing one of the only survivors not dead on hook. Another survivor who was just unhooked kept taking body blocks to protect there teammate, I tried to down them with M1 so they wouldn't be in my way, but since I was in Evil Incarnate mode, I moried them on accident, and then got punished with the universal gen blocking. I had six hooks btw.

this is something im concerned about and something that was gonna happen no matter what. but fortunately it is not going to be as common or as impactful as tunneling. I hate players that do stuff like this to take advantage of a system that is supposed to help them have fun. Tunneling was abused to the point of getting this update, why are they trying to ruin it by abusing its mechanics. Itll be annoying for a bit but adjustments will be made to make killer lives easier if needed

I mean you stated that you dont play to win and just play causally for fun. So of course the changes do not affect your enjoyment as your never seriously playing seriously to win and as you noted your in low MMR so you dont deal with high MMR SWF.. The key problem that creates so much of the toxicity you talk about is that the Devs refuse to split the game into a ranked competitive queue and a causal queue effectively forcing the two communities of players wanting different types of experiences to intermingled at everyone's detriment. You speak about both sides a lot but for people playing to win the lose lose scenarios you talk about where bad players caught out just have to be chased and slugged if your lucky if they were past hook or on two hook before 6. That used tk be a hook now a killer either has to ignore them or just get a slug. In addition to how SWF can abuse these changes or have two players go rat forcing the killer to play locker simulator to track them down as they extend the 6 hook protection period, or how gen rushing was still a prominent complaint from killers and their enjoyment and they added a gen regression perk nerf ontop of all these changes.

go play the PTB, adjust to the changes. It is not that deep. The issue is the psychology of tunnelers. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TUNNEL TO WIN. Catering to a small but very loud portion of comp kids, is not what is in the best interest of the game. There is a reason why 2v8 is so popular….its casual and both sides enjoy the match, which cannot be said about 1v4 tunneling. Tunneling is less about strategy and more about exploiting a low-effort path to victory, and the psychology behind it reflects that. Many killers tunnel because it gives them a sense of control and efficiency, but in reality it removes the need for skillful map pressure, chase variety, or resource management. Others do it out of spite, targeting survivors who looped them or acted in ways they perceived as disrespectful, which turns the match into a personal vendetta rather than a competitive game. Tunneling also stems from fear of losing; some killers panic when generators go quickly and latch onto one survivor just to secure a kill, even if it ruins the match for everyone else. Psychologically, it is a shortcut that reduces cognitive demand and responsibility: focusing on one target avoids the challenge of managing multiple survivors. Many justify it by saying “the game allows it, so it’s fair,” but this entitlement ignores the larger balance and longevity of the game. From the survivor perspective, tunneling feels like targeted harassment, leading to frustration, rage-quits, and disengagement, which hurts both sides in the long run. This is why developers work to curb tunneling; it undermines fairness, enjoyment, and the overall health of Dead by Daylight.

Yes, SWF groups can abuse things; there is always a way to abuse any new mechanic. But the problem with the “SWF” argument is that most of them aren’t competitive, and honestly, they aren’t even that skilled. The only time I play survivor is for Rift challenges or when friends invite me, and my SWF is usually just messing around and playing badly. For the majority, SWF just means people hopping on after work or school to relax with friends. The real problem comes from the hyper-competitive mindset players on both sides, not the average group. Basing balance decisions on the rare experiences of a tiny percentage of the player base is a mistake.

And if you look at the devs’ choices, it’s clear they don’t want Dead by Daylight to be an esport. They’ve never pushed for a ranked competitive mode, and for good reason. Competitive games are often swamped with toxicity and cheating from people desperate to prove they’re “the best.” The devs are aiming for casual enjoyment, not a competitive scene.

Its very simple. Give yourself a chance to adapt and try the changes. The devs have stated multiple times they will adjust things accordingly even killer buffs, which should be an exciting consequence for killers. Just think of it as paving the way for better balance and future killer buffs.

I rather say it one time too much than not often enough, I feel like I sound really harsh sometimes and I'm simply scared that people think I attack them personally.

I mean you should never entirely rely on tunneling that's true, but even before that made you lose depending on map and survivors. Well while I don't really play comp-like I also don't hold back anything normally, my fun comes from trying winning not from meming around.

I prefer to see it like this:

why do I play a pvp game if I don't want to win or at least play against other people really? I could also play a mmo or at least a multiplayer game with focus on casualty (probably the wrong word? Well you probably know what I mean xD) or something like this, and then I would have a lot of people meming around with me instead of people that ether want to meme OR play against me.

oh i totally agree. A pvp game relies on that dopamine hit with each victory. But it can also suffer negatively from unhealthy playstyles and toxic players…something DBD is ripe with. Playing to win is natural and apart of everyone's psychology, my beef is with those who take it so far that they view others, not as healthy competition, but as meat for the slaughter. Like their only purpose is to feed their ego. That's usually the case with tunnelers…they have a very "im not responsible for your fun" attitude. Like no your not, but youre also not entitled to our suffering and when you live selfishly dont be surprised when noone wants to play with you and you're met with hate. I think the devs saw that with tunneling and sought to correct.

Im all for playing to win…as long as its done in a healthy manner. All sports and competitions have unwritten rules of respect they follow. Even in professional sports many times they do not run up the score significantly out of respect. its etiquette and huma decency and I dont see why video games…where most of us dont get paid millions of dollars to do so…cant act with the same respect. I went up against a blight ealier that absolutley curb stomped my team. dude did not tunnel and followed the six hook rule thing from the ptb. It was a fun and impressive loss and good times in post game chat. Later I went against a spirit who tunneled the living hell out of a feng then attempted to do it to a lara croft. Everyone, including the killer, was salty and rude post game. Killer because they only got one kill due to tunneling, and the survivors because its bad sportsmanship.

As survivor i usually match the energy of the lobby. If my team is goofin off…ill join em. If the killer is a vibe then ill vibe with them, but generally i play to win. As killer my "win" isnt the usual defintion set by this game. I usually load in with a build and a goal and if i achieve that then I still get that "high" ppl get from victory. I do get regular wins more often than not though. Like back when scratched mirror myers was alive and well i would simply play with the goal of getting jumpscares, usually let the fun survivors live.

point is….play to win. everyone does. Just don't stoop to the lowest level to do it and treat your competition like sub-human waste.

We killer mains are human players. We want to play the way we like. We are costumers. The Devs job is to please us, because we PAID for the product. We ain't here to entertain the survivor player. If you don't like that, ask for killer bots. You can set up rules for them. If that's the way you want to play, why are you playing an asymetrical horrror survival game to beginn with??

Genuinely cant tell if this is sarcasm or not….😥

  • Gen-rush is hella annoying. I hate the swf squads that hop on the generator as soon as you break. Take five steps away and turn around just to see them rushing it. It sucks, its annoying, but it does not rob me of the experience as much as tunneling does. Gen-rushing makes the match shorter for EVERYONE. Where as tunneling is the intentional targeting of one specific player. Fortunately unmanageable gen-rushing is no-where near as common or as problematic as tunneling. If it is that common of an occurrence and an issue, I would try swapping builds or killers for a bit, or change up tactics. A lot of killer players have an incredibly similar playstyle which makes genrushing and predicting them second nature.

For example, i used to get gen-rushed as deathslinger A LOT. and honestly any non-mobile killer. I changed my build to be a stealth slinger build that focuses on longshots. now I sweep matches, even the super sweaty toxic swf rushers. I also get mad props for the shots I pull off. Meta is only meta because its one size fits all…not that its optimal for your playstyle. experiment a bit. I dont even run gen perks on my ghostface and I win a solid 85-90% of my matches. Spirit is also good for genrushing. I get so many grabs on those guys. ill hit a guy and their buddy will be like "surely the spirit is going to phase to them for the down" and immediately gets on the gen next to me….just to get yoinked because they forgot i have ears, eyes, and a brain.

. You can play as optimally and perfectly as possible and still lose in anything

Wrong. According to this very community, if you lose = you are bad, you aren't worthy of basic respect, you deserve to be smeared in dirt and harassed, and mocked till the winners have enough. You aren't a person, you a barely a human. And if you don't like this treatment, it's on you because git gud.

This is the mentality people come to this game, this is the mentality they learn and this is the mentality BHVR encourages.

If the main goal of Killers is no longer to kill but to let Survivors have fun, they should have shifted the objective of the game and introduced the alternative quests for Killers to fulfill, instead of providing one side with all the options to opt out or get a second chance, while telling the other side that it's basically their fault for trying to play as a Killer in the first place.

this community is very toxic. I blame it on the wave of hyper-competitive players. Everything is about what is meta, everything has to be an "S-tier", and have their entire emotional well-being placed on winning a match. Its being a slave to ego is how I look at it. They take the laughter and joy out of video games simply because they feel entitled to win. its obnoxious and i disdain this mentality, they're the type of people to leave their shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot because "its not my job, they get paid to do it, not me". I just roll my eyes and continue being happier than them lol.

Anyway, the goal of the killer is not to let survivors have fun. That is the goal of the devs. They have to ensure that both sides are happy and the community is moving into a balanced and mutually enjoyable experience to maintain player base. Sometimes, a consequence of that is one of the sides taking a hit for the overall health of the game. You can still kill, be scary, torment them….but the devs decided (and rightfully so), that enough is enough and survivors are people too. Because the Killer is the "power role" those who main them feel entitled to absolute domination. They are not actually a supernatural killer, they're just a dude in a gaming chair playing with dudes in other gaming chairs. They forget that the game depends on BOTH sides having a fun and playable match. Anti-Tunneling does not rob the killer of the power role or its purpose. If anything it adds more purpose by pushing them from the repetition of "only focus one guy" and makes them focus on map control, chase skill, and decision-making. Survivors still have plenty of ways to lose, they're just hard nerfing the cheesiest and least skillful method of doing that.

I have spent my entire DBD career (since 2017) not ever tunneling and do perfectly fine, above average I would say. Its not the end of the world or DBD, just the end of an unhealthy playstyle.

I don't even say that I shouldn't lose, but I could have won that easily. The system simply dragged my killborder even further out because I played too nice, and thats really stupid.

This system has to consistently prevent one thing and that is tunneling, but it doesn't only prevent tunneling but even playing nice, so it's a failure.

Honestly I think I have to play even more serious like this, I'm maybe not tunneling one person out anymore, but instead i'm forced to switch between 2 people and I have to down them quick to win in case of stronger teams. I'd say I could play less agressive on worse teams, but dbd doesn't really tell you how good your opponents are and I only see that when I'm already losing then.

Well in the end you're right and we think different, but I didn't mean it against you just to be clear.

oh i know you didnt mean anything against me lol. downside of chat forums is that its hard to capture intent and emotion. There is 100% going to be a spike in lost games for killers. ESPECIALLY for those who strictly rely on tunneling, and itll get frustrating at times when you get that one goober brain survivor that is just always there infront of you. it def needs some work, but i would rather this than the alternative. Personally i dont care in the slightest about my mmr, stats, or even winning. I used too…but after nearly a decade of playing this game, i kinda stopped caring about that and cared more about having what i conider to be genuine casual fun. So if my mmr drops as a consequence of this….oh well. Low mmr is better for memes and goofing off anyway. More personality when youre not in "comp mentality" mmr.

yeah im not counting on the full force of it making it live….but even if the anti-tunnel is cut by half….i will be ecstatic. I just want to play a match without praying to god the guy being tunneled has DS or Off the record. I once went in fully stacked on second chance anti-tunnel perks. I used all of them in a single chase i was being tunneled so hard. I died but at least the others got out…only positive thing about getting tunneld

"In general it hasn't effected my gameplay very much at all as killer":

well I lost yesterday because I played like the system wanted me to, so I can tell it does things and it's horrible. If you spread hooks actually, so you do what people want (1 hook on everyone, and then a second one on one of them) you effectively increase the border to be able to kill to 7 instead of 6. The person with 2 is the last hooked person then, so by actually killing them you make yourself lose in an instant by blocking your gens - so the system forces you to down in a specific pattern (person a, person b, person a, person b, person c and person a or b) to be even able to use it's 6 hooks border. There are also other patterns but they probably force you to be only able to kill one of them because of the last hooked rule, I think only my pattern allows two people to be really deathhook at 6 stages.

My point is that it's increadible annoying because it forces you so much to play ineffective, but at the same time it requires you to play relatively effective if you don't want to be punished in any way, because if you don't play at least relatively effective it punishes you for playing even nicer by extending the border to kill even more.

"well I lost yesterday because I played like the system wanted me to"

losing is inevitable. in any competition or game or whatever have you. You can play as optimally and perfectly as possible and still lose in anything. Even without this change…I'm pretty sure no-one in DBD has a 100% victory rate. Devs have said if they notice a steep decline in killer ability, adjustments will be made.

I also think you and I have VASTLY different approaches to this game. You seem analytical and focus on strategy (prolly win alot more than me cuz of it). whereas i play mostly for memes now, i win more than I lose, but winning is just a welcome surprise to my shenanigans. Thats partly why I am excited for this update, because it'll force the repetitive "this is the optimal way to play" sort of gamers to shake things up and take it less seriously (i hope). Its like in chess how everyone plays by the same playbook so when someone comes a long and shakes things up its exciting and fresh again.

  • imagine getting sniped using one of these and you just fall lol. cool concept though

  • i have played according to these beta rules for years now. it is not that serious. It will be and adjustment and a learning curve….but that is necessary for the future health of the game. Tunneling isnt necessary, people are just hyper-competitive and desperate for that dopamine boost when you get a win.

"I play a build where I kneecap myself and get bullied by anyone with any amount of hours in survivor or a single friend in the lobby, it's tons of fun"

Survivors trying to appeal to people who play killer for any amount of time is really funny

no….i still win. its just super fun for me and fun for the other people too. Contrary to our opinion you can win and have fun. and you can win and the one who lost still enjoy it to. novel idea, i think this was taught back in pre-k. If you are that stressed about the game and winning or performing well. you need to take a break, or take a few losses so your MMR is where you naturally belong and therefore have balanced mutually enjoyable matches.
