  • Steam forums on any game is a mess tbf, Steam moderation and it's draconian block system doesn't help either.

  • The state of the discord currently has way to many children (mainly chronically online tik tok users) going back and forth with one another trying to either bully or ragebait or randomly bring up topics to be bigoted for attention. Had to leave because it became too toxic of a place for a normal discussion so I'm sad to see the forums are being retired now.

  • Considering stopping because honestly? Tik tok as a platform for multiplayer games in general but ESPECIALLY DBD has made discussion around balance and meta itself toxic and exhausting. The breed of players brought over from that platform only further flared up the tribalism between killer mains and survivor mains as if people can't just try both roles like good god don't even get me started on the engagement bait videos and custom game rage farming where people "bully" killers with perks that so happen to be right for the situation.

  • Hey so, more survivor perk nerfs just mean more casuals are going to get funneled into running meta, Windows really didn't need to be nerfed its a nothing perk same as perks like vigil or hope for example that also got nerfed. Killer mains complain that somehow those perks were OP or added to the strength of survivors not realizing that the less perks are viable the more games are going to feel like sweatfests and they'll scramble to find the next nothing perk to nerf until we're arguing about self care again or bond.

  • @Elan said:

The game is defienetly survivor sided if survivors are good. Even against higher tier killers. Main issue of asking if the game is balanced is the variety the game offers. If you run in full swf with 3 other survivors you know will be doing gens and are good at looping you will most like win way more than lose. If you are in solo q with survivors that don't do gens, last 5s in chase, you will most likely lose a lot of the games. Next issue is the uniqueness of each map. Each game on the same map spawns different pallets, different gens, different totems etc. and it all plays role in what side is favored more. You can end up on Game which is one of the hardest map for the killer as Pig but you face full swf who are not very good and just play to have fun with chill builds and you win, then you end up on Trickster's Delusion which is one of more killer-sided maps and you face full swf who play seriously, run all meta perks, go for bodyblocks, play safe around pallets etc.

    For example…

You spawn on Badham with very bad pallet rng for the killer and you play Hag. Unless you pull out basement play you will 100 % lose against good players.

If you spawn on the exact same map with exact same rng as Ghoul, you have very high chance to win.

If you play against weaker team and you get quick two downs, pull of pain res, dms and grim… you will most likely win.

If you play against very good survivors and they pop 3 gens simulteanously because the spread on gens and you had bad first chase, unless you hard tunnel someone out or slug entire team, you will lose.

Of that speaking, low mmr is 100 % killer sided as survivors can't path properly, don't play effeciently etc. Mid mmr is more about rng, picked killer and level of survivor play. High mmr is without doubt heavily survivor-sided no matter who and what perks you play.

"IF survivors are good" is where you lost me because yeah? Good players should be rewarded with good results for their good play? Against high tier killers too if those killers play poorly being high tier doesn't guarantee a win if you suck.

  • Still waiting for all the OP fog vial usage people complained about that it had to be nerfed so fast

Can't even compare them. Lethal a one time use at the start if the game to value from the other half of the perk you must have an aura perk, lightborn there for people with eye issues, Ruin a hex that can easily be destroyed and must chase survivors off gens to get value, and corrupt a one time use at the start of the game that last a set time or get first down. Sprint Burst gives value at any point of the match for doing absolutely nothing other than run to trigger it.

Lethal gives a net buff to all aura reading for doing nothing but okay

  • Henry from Stranger Things manly because as a villain from the show I absolutely hate him, his backstory makes no sense timeline wise, he died in the most unserious way to the main cast, that entire final season was poop from the butt. Now paired with all that ST fans get pretentious about his name saying he's the true Vecna as if Venca isn't just Vecna. Henry is not Vecna the little kids named him that because they play DND which is where Vecna is FROM. Demogorgon gets a pass because it literally doesn't have a true name in the show apart from what the kids call him. Plus his ingame power and mechanics are so boring, why doesn't the clock deplete full when interacting with the music tapes? You might as well do a gen if you're not being chased he gets you back into the otherworld anyway if he hits any of your other teammates twice. Useless killer, stupid useless character.

Additionally, Skull merchant feels like a waste of time killer, in the sense that she is the laziest killer I've ever seen design wise. Her cadence is boring, walk is stupidly weird with how much distance she covers compared to how her steps look so she always looks like she's gliding on the floor and her mori is terrible. Doesn't help that stan twitter has people so delusional into thinking she's iconic in some way. She's a flop through and through, EVERY other female killer is leagues above being iconic compared to skull merchant.

As for survivor, Ace mains because they annoy the FAWK out of me intentionally not taking hits because they want to get a save with a flashlight and his stupid smile and those speedos and his weird build he's just so gross.

  • There are people getting close to 2k winstreaks on blight no matter how you look at it he's pretty busted and it seems like he'll still be fine after the nerfs

Ultimate Weapon only revealed Auras in patch 7.7.0 and it was quickly reverted in 7.7.1 to be at the lockers location of 32 meters. Distortion was a top 10 perk for a couple of years and I believe Survivors used it to mostly counter BBQ, Letal, and Nowhere to Hide.

ultimate weapon revealed auras, made survivors blind AND made them scream when it was released and the killer could roam with the effect around the map as well.

So before it's nerf Distortion was in the top 10 used Survivors perks and of course Killer players hated it but if a Survivor is just hiding all game and letting their team die other Survivors players don't like that and refer to it as Rat behavior.

Of course all players should play the way they want to but Survivors are on a team and need to work together to escape

Survivors hid all game LONG before distortion was a thing, you guys love to conveniently forget that the spike in distortion usage was due to Ultimate Weapon the perk and all the aura reading killers started running in general around that time. This was around the time aura reading huntress made a comeback too which was why it was paired with calm spirit because the perk roamed with the killer at the time.

Is it even worth the cost to set those up? You can argue the Middle-East if the playerbase is big enough. But Africa is full of unstable, failed states and I can't imagine the infrastructure and playbase can justify it.

I'm literally from South Africa lol, games like Call of Duty, Dota 2, Warhammer and Overwatch have African / Middle East servers. I don't see why DBD can't be the same.

Even though some 4.4 killers have projectiles, they could not get an angle to use their power because of Hope. It was literally impossible to get a hit.

All of a sudden Hope was the most overpowered endgame perk until recently.

  • @joeyspeehole said:

Unfortunately, no. Distortion was removed to buff lethal pursuer. After gutting distortion, they made it so everybody starts together.

I wouldn't have a problem with lethal if it didn't work on killer addons honestly like I can deal with taking a chase when the game starts at least because you know every resource is available.

  • Yeah I've always already done that when playing solo previously, my problem is that with constant aura reading and the best way to charge distortion is to do chases (which makes it pretty much useless against a killer who doesn't intend to stay in chase / can break chase easily), but with perks and addons that already burn through stacks it feels like I should ignore using distortion completely and just run gen rush builds and assume every killer can see where I am. It doesn't seem like adjusting does much anymore other than insure you're not the first person to get hooked so it feels like racing against the killers movement speed feels like the play while pumping BNP into gens.

  • @Xirio said:

    Very simple.
Find what perks the killer is running.
    Sit in lockers.

As a Nurse player, on a 280 win streak, that runs quad aura perks, I often find that most survivors are good enough to hop lockers.

Doesn't work too well with open maps that don't have that many lockers

  • Yeap and now they're nerfed to dirt

  • @cogsturning said:

I'm hoping they don't nerf them. They're stupid, silly fun but mostly useless. The games I'm playing in usually have none in play. The bloodweb is also giving me basically zero, so I don't even get to use them much myself.

Yeah pretty much I feel they just need small tweaks otherwise it's alright, It's nice when the game feels more like a party game than a competitive sweat fest.

You could hear him coming out. Invisible or not, he'd still be close so doesn't change anything, does it?

It does when you don't know which direction he's going, could end up walking into him actually unless you were on a well lit map and saw the extremely small eyes

Springtrap invisibility wasn't even that bad.
If you were close to the door, you could see that he's coming by looking on the little screen so you could pre-run.
If you were far from the door, you could hear him coming out so it didn't matter that much.

What about when the door next to the gen was facing away from it?

  • All the complaints are about everything BUT the strength of the killer. If anything a lot of killers are still figuring out how to make him work and another section are tunneling or camping to troll with the new AFK system and others are tp'ing to multiple doors to abuse the 2 sec invisibility bug.

  • Chris Walker from Outlast and an Outlast themed map

  • @bathwatergrill said:

It wouldn't matter. Remember what it was like before they added the extra information on the bottom left hud? Now we can see that someone is in chase and 2 people are doing gens. Now the full hp survivor with 0 hooks doing nothing should be the one going for unhook. However this is rarely the occasion in solo queue. Ignorant survivor or one with 0 gamesense would just ignore the added communication lines aswell. Survivors should also be able to tell if killer is straight up facecamping and not stop the anticamp meter, unless they trade at the very last second. The only advantage with voice chat is knowing which gens your teammates are doing and where the killer is.

Chase prompts on the UI are barely helpful especially against stealth or killers with no terror radius or killers chasing multiple people in rare cases. If someone spots a killer chasing them but you're not aware because the UI prompt is not active then being able to shout that out is useful since they're not even being stealthy anyway.

Unhooking is a nightmare if you don't have kindred on at all, not knowing who's going for an unhook and being unable to judge who the closest person is and if they're in chase at the moment as well sucks too. Problems SWF players don't have to struggle with. Quick prompts to let people know the status of the situation definitely gives solo survivors more tools to work with when helping the team.

This just proves we need to nerf distortion tbh

They really don't. Small terror radius doesn't matter because the perk charges in chase. Whispers is not a good counter, you can't make progress without a survivor being in your terror radius.

Then you must really suck at chases, like REALLY suck if whole stacks are being regenerated in chase with a stealth killer, but you're in chase anyway so distortion at that point doesn't matter

Gearhead and Undying both reveal survivor auras. Aura plague doesn't counter distortion, neither does that oni add-on, neither does that purple add-on for wraith.

"Distortion is countered by so much" No, if a survivor has distortion, you can't bypass the perk and read their aura anyways. This is exactly the problem i have with it. If you know a survivor has distortion, you won't be able to read their aura.

I never complained about survivors hiding in lockers to hide their aura.

What??? Oni and Plague with aura builds absolutely SHRED distortion have you not event played them? Gearhead alone too and undying RIPS through tokens before a survivor can finish a single totem, aura plague triggers the perk every time a survivor vomits and with healing shut down it's already that much easy tracking them because they need to go around the map to fountains away from the killer or risk being punished.

To add to this, All seeing Wraith and Meyers scratched mirror or rather both these killers without aura reading make it a dead perk anyway because their terror radius is so infrequent that charging the damn thing is near impossible against a good stealth killer hell Onryu too isn't bothered by distortion. Artist can toss her crows artist and Legion both don't need to worry about distortion along with doctor because their kit isn't countered by it at all, Dredge too. These are all examples from the top of my head of killers and perks that just trivialise distortion. There are a slew of killer perks too that track as well without the need for aura reading. Just run whispers if you're worried about your terror radius charging the perk.

  • Just run gearhead or undying omg or any other killer perk that can reveal survivors without the need for aura reading or play legion or aura plague and Oni or all seeing wraith if you HAVE to have auras. Distortion is countered by so much and you can track very easily without needing auras all generators are always revealed to you which is the prime objective anyway regardless of how much a survivor hides.

People hiding in DBD especially on lockers which block aura reading has been a thing long before distortion was around as well.

  • @DrDucky said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/401054/dont-nerf-or-change-distortion

I think the main issue I have with the perk is my aura builds just do not work. This 1 single perk literally can shut down half of my perks and addons.

Calm spirit shuts down doctors entire power and clowns screams from bottles and every single scream perk in the game yet it's situational because those perks are not dominating rn not as much as aura reading. If scream perks were common people would run calm spirit as often.

People were fine before more aura reading perks entered the game, if distortion gets nerfed then aura reading across the board needs a rework.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3618976#Comment_3618976

It doesn't matter if Distortion is sometimes not useful. The problem is the maximum value the perk can give. In some games, the killer can't force the survivor to just burn through all their stacks, and as I mentioned before, survivors can dodge many of the aura reading perks with stuff like lockers, after Distortion announces them to the survivor. For example, it only takes 1 distortion stack to know that BBQ is in the game, and the survivor can just dodge the other BBQ stacks.

And the biggest problem with Distortion is that it encourages and rewards survivors for excessively hiding the entire game, which is frustrating for both sides of the game. Distortion should just get removed from the game, and if people want aura reading blocking, they should just use Off The Record instead, which is much healthier for the game because it has a forced limited duration. I've tested Distortion, and in most games I don't even burn through my initial 3 stacks. Most killers just aren't running builds that can force all the Distortion tokens to burn. Usually it's Lethal or BBQ, which can't force 3 tokens to burn. And even if it's Nowhere to Hide, I can usually just dodge it by hiding in a locker or pre-leaving the generator when the visual terror radius happens. And those are by far the top 3 killer aura reading perks. I can't even remember the last time I played against a killer with Darkness Revealed. And Undying only reveals near dull totems, so it won't burn any tokens if I'm cleansing a lit totem.

Why does it not matter that distortion is great in certain situations? Because by that logic we can apply that to any perk in any certain situation because distortion is VERY situational and just because you happen to have the right build for the right instance once in a while doesn't mean that the perk is broken.

Off the record gives endurance which is way stronger than plain distortion which does not give the player themselves any form of gameplay advantage other than not being detected through aura reading for a short time. And again LOCKERS exist, you say it rewards hiding but lockers do that way better than distortion and are accessible easily, and it doesn't matter if you're running scream perks and killers with killer instinct and pretty much any stealth killer because that perk doesn't bother them.

It hasn't changed in almost a year, survivors are just adapting to killer perks and these are the most situational perks because non aura reading builds are not affected at all, and every killer can run non aura builds.

c21 blight is about the only thing that can consistently burn through distortion, don't kid yourself.

It's not op but it's poorly designed. An all encompassing aura reading denier that half the time hurts the teamates of the user. 1 survivor perk should never be countering 2+ killer perks, that's just asinine.

Bringing nurses calling up is dumb because the perk isn't even halfway meta.

I'd rather buff distortion to 10 stacks than ever see IW back to it's old self, no perk has ever given more free value than IW. That perk was peak trash design.

Chase is fun, hide and seek is not. Only the 2016 dbd players disagree with that.

No??? PLENTY of builds burn through distortion so fast that if a survivor wanted to keep it up they'd have to spend most of the game in lockers or hugging the killer like if distortion needs to be nerfed then remove the net buff lethal gives to all aura reading then

  • Literally the tone shift is so obvious because I made a discussion months ago about the perk and practically NO ONE thought it was a problem, plus killers with iron will nerfed what is the issue with finding survivors? You know if stacks run out fast anyway people can hide in lockers right? You know if someone is healing another person with nurses BOTH have to be running distortion and that's very situational and even then you still hear the healing or crying, unless you want bite the bullet nerfed too. Aura perks stacked on one another burn distortion so fast I'm not kidding.

  • @LapisInfernalis said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3615839#Comment_3615839

The only killers who can burn through stacks are those with a small TR (Myers, Huntress, Hag) or with inbuild stealth. All others have problems, especially on small maps.

You forgot Onryu, Plague, Oni, Xeno, Wraith, Deathslinger etc. Full aura builds require people to be close and if you've played survivor long enough you honestly never need to rely on them anyway because it's a coin toss if the perk even is useful or a dead perk slot.

  • @Xernoton said:

I think it would be healthy, if you couldn't gain any stacks while being the survivor with the least hook stages. Because at the moment Distortion kind of incentivises tunneling or at least ignoring the existence of all survivors that use it, which isn't ideal.

Other than that, I don't think it needs any changes. It's strong but mostly fine.

What about cases where the killer straight up ignores you because they have STBFL

  • Stacks are not generous and get burned out FAST especially against killers who only focus on aura reading, and against stealth killers. So hiding in those scenarios makes you easy to find if there's no terror radius you basically have a dead perk. It has so many existing counters and it was deemed useless until people started running plenty of tracking perks that came with the new chapters which are terribly good. Plus it helps counter the pressure set by these perks.

it's more likely that the killers get corrupt and the survivors get kindred

Goes to show how much swf destroys in this game.

If we close the gap between swf and soloq completely, this would mean, that the buffs that killers would need are insane. Something like 120% movement speed and 20% pain res on every Gen map wide for every hook. That's how dumb it is to see the killer all the time and spread out on gens.

I dont think the game would recover.

Swf is busted if played right. It literally destroys the balance of the game and can't be destroyed because it helps the game stay alive.

This is the grave bhvr digged back when the created the function to play with your friends.

I get you but see it's just kindred, that's all. Kindred is required when playing solo and camping killers don't care if they are seen near hook most don't even know the perk exists because regardless of the aura reading terror radius exists. Around stealth killers people naturally assume they could be camping the hook anyway because the playstyle is so common and boring to go against but kindred doesn't even detect them anyway.

It doesn't close the gap completely, but kindred needs so much to work that having it base kit doesn't matter because that survivor is already on the hook anyway.

  • @Beatricks said:

As you can see from this thread, there isn't a good reason. Just the usual skill issue killers complaining they can't 4k against a team that's not completely braindead.

Especially since this wouldn't even affect stealth killers, or killers with undetectable perks, people forget that pretty much every survivor going solo runs this perk so it's basically base kit for them and the fact that they don't notice this still or never bring up how OP kindred is proves that it really doesn't affect them.

Any time I bring up base kindred people compare it to actual perks that are problematic from survivors despite kindred never being that strong and requiring a hook state to even stay up to begin with

  • @ReikoMori said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/388817/i-still-havent-heard-a-good-argument-against-basekit-kindred

Constantly adding perk effects as base kit solutions regardless of what side they favor ultimately flattens out the game and removes the need to actually make strategic build decisions based on the pros and cons of what type of gameplay experience you're seeking. To zero in on the subject of base kit kindred, what exactly are you hoping to achieve with that? If you're goal is to make more team synergy then people don't even synergize when you go out of your way to run kindred or bond as a perk. If the goal is just to generate more information for the team it doesn't actually do that great of job compared to the hud, audio, and visual cues the game gives already.

Everyone knows you're hooked, most people can guess that the killer is patrolling, chasing, proxing, or just face camping you based on the other tools at your disposal and tiny bit of effort in using a few brain cells worth of deductive reasoning. When it comes to making the save while keeping maximum efficiency, that's a lost cause. Dedicated teams manage that cause they tend not to care about any of the things that randoms care about like completing dallies, tome challenges, pushing their emblem scores. In all my times where I've run kindred it has never made a tangible difference at any perceived MMR level I've been in. At most it just gave people reasons to not even bother attempting saves in a timely manner. If they saw the killer was there, they didn't come which makes sense, but if they didn't see the killer cause the killer legit left and wasn't proxy camping they didn't come until I was basically in second state on my first hook.

So from my experience making that base kit doesn't seem worthwhile and constantly making perk effects base kit harms the value of perks in general while not solving the actual issues you want addressed with proper solutions.

No one is asking for every perk under the sun to be usable as basekit, Kindred is an information perk that is pretty much almost required to use if you play solo and can often feel like an annoyance because trying to experiment with different builds can be a chore if you have to place perks that are pretty much required. It doesn't detect stealth killers or killers who are undetectable anyway it's literally just ONE perk that's a QOL change over all the dozens of perks survivors already have that people want to try out.

SWF players don't have to worry about this because they have Kindred 24/7 via coms and can give real time information about the killer's position EVEN when they are in stealth or undetectable without the need to sacrifice a hook state to do so. Kindred is not useful to them at all if they have coms.

I don’t think it has anything to do with tiles. There’s just some minimum amount of movement and time, unknown to me, that the survivors need to continue to move to avoid getting crows. And they only go away if you repair generators for another unknown amount of time to me.

OP could have repaired generators while the killer was AFK.

I only new they were AFK once I got close to them, at that moment after attempting to move away once I tried to get into the hatch then the crow spawned and wouldn't go away.
