it isnt a sense of security in that the killer is a threat. it just gives security that theyre allowed to have fun now without being forced out of a match right out the gate because people view winning as the only requisite to having fun. The bottom line is…you are entitled to play the game but you are not entitled to the suffering of the other players. You are not actually a bloodthirsty serial killer (i hope). If you struggle to win with the new update then your MMR will adjust to a level where winning is possible.
if you feel the survivors are not threatened by you…change your playstyle. I run all aura build ghost face and the jump scares and screams I get from streamers are amazing, and everyone has a good time. Ill have em so paranoid they hide in the same room so long they get crows. Even before this update i followed the rules this update proposed…just out of sportsmanship. I do fine. I still get people who friended me when i was killer, and talk about my insane stealth slinger shots. You can be feared…but when they see you're only going for the "tactical clean wipe win"… the fear is gone and it becomes a job. it becomes predictable.
-
my only beef is that it can screw with sadako and her entire power. The 6 total hooks states is pretty annoying but whatever, theyll make adjustments to the thing and the roles as needed
-
yeah legion is the biggest issue with 2v8 and so annoying. now before the inevitable "legion isnt that strong, skill issue". its not about that. its about fun. nothing is fun about "oh look legion" just to either not get hit and have them do nothing until the power is back. OR "oh look its legion"…*gets hit*….*mends*…."oh look its legion"….and do that for 40 minutes. its a drag. Half the time i just stare at em. take the hit. 99 mend. then work on the gen till i know hes out of power. They should add a resilience type of perk to the game since im injured 90% of the time anyway
watch them add twins next so not only will you be mending all game….but when you're not mending youre slugged. -
legion killed 2v8 imo

This game used to be pretty casual, but as the popularity increased so did the influx of hypercompetitive players and streamers. I mean every game i get at least one streamer. The issue is the nature of competitiveness. Their ego depends on the win. And so they flock to streamers and youtubers and listen to what they say then take it as scripture. Youre only allowed to tunnel and camp. youre only allowed to run meta quadruple chance builds. the only thing youre not allowed to do is relax and play the game for the sake of enjoyment. Competitiveness is the death of casual enjoyment and laughter. suddenly nothing is fun unless you dominate, any mistakes result in pointing the finger at the team or anything other than yourself. Then there are just the trolls. Im in North eastern US and I regularly get south American players who come in with a VPN and be as toxic as humanly possible.
personally I haven't played since TWD chapter because of how bad the bugs were. I then refused to come back because I kept seeing how broken the clown is right now. I am going to play 2v8, but that is it. At least that mode is a little more casual and goofy.
I just genuinely miss getting into a match and knowing that its gonna be a chill time and people just want to have fun, not boost ego.
-
Helldivers 2 already had this problem, where people were getting booted, killed, or abandoned for not running meta stuff. This community is significantly more toxic that HD2 so i am not looking forward to this at all.
-
my problem with this is that there are DOZENS upon dozens of killer perks and add-ons that reveal aura. Including one that shows you right off the bat during the match start. There needs to be a counter for these for survivor. Right now there is boon shadow step, distortion, and lockers against the flood of aura reading everything on killers. I used to run it before I was good at looping so I wouldn’t need to worry about the constant lethal pursuer and bbq perks while I worked on a gen. Or to stay hidden while I go for the save or protect against the gen aura perk.
I have a few aura builds for jumpscares. Distortion is not a problem and I rarely ever notice it.

I don't understand why you all keep thinking you are gonna "get me" because of "gen rushing" or "teabagging at the gates"
I don't think those things are good at the game, but i don't blame survivors for doing them.
Also, no its not, in Street Fighter again, if i know my opponent mains Zangief, and i know that Sagat has an amazingly good matchup against him (a 7-3 usually) i might counterpick him by playing Sagat. This is all part of the game. It doesn't make me toxic for counter picking them because i know they only play Zangief.
Your straws are starting to take the shape of a man
-
It has single handeledly caused the death of my meme builds like jumpscare myers and what not.
Now before people go "mermermer if you need a specific map to win you're not good"It isn't about winning, it is about the jump scares and the reaction to it. I play for fun, not to win.
Not to mention they totally made the "cancel any map offering" offering useless because 20% is not that big of a deal to warrant using one of those offerings. -

Slugging isn’t reportable, but it can be toxic depending on the situation. I’ve slugged survivors and let them bleed out, but only in response to displays of toxicity on their side like constantly t-bagging every time they drop a pallet or vault a window. Aside from situations like that, I agree that the killer is at fault for being overly toxic to let survivor bleed out like that.
This is why BHVR needs to allow survivors to abandon if they are slugged as one of the last two remaining. At that point, the match is effectively over. People on these forums have pointed this out to the devs/mods repeatedly, but nothing has been done yet. It would be nice if they didn’t take so long to make what should be a very simple, straightforward and logical change.I get slugging for those reasons. But this person slugged me for no reason, then sat on my body to watch me bleed out. didnt even attempt to find the other for the 4k, just wanted me on the ground and bleed me out. Crawled around all over the map, recovered…and they inched along on top of me the entire time.
Devs def need to widen teh abandon feature for situations like this or at least punish this level of toxicity somehow.
-
My biggest gripe is the auto pallet break. it is so strong. The ONE thing survivors have is the window block but that isnt nearly as impactful as permanently removing something by looking at it.
The strength of the powers are absolutely not balanced, but when has this game ever been properly balanced lol
-
At this point they need to just remove the skill checks from being hooked. its pointless and doesn't speed anything up. Just have a "press ___ to sacrifice yourself" when the conditions are right. At least this way i can eat or watch tiktok while im sitting there doing nothing
-
nah, nerf distortion again.

People who complain about tunneling obviously don’t play killer at high mmr and it definitely shows. Especially when survivors have a plethora of perks that help prevent it. Like decisive strike, dead hard, off the record, even base kit borrowed time. Killers should be allowed to go after the weakest link in order to win.
Ntm I’m so tired of hearing “you’re not supposed to win every match.” That’s the biggest load of crap I ever heard. Im gonna do everything in my power to win each and every game. Even if I have to slug, tunnel, or even proxy camp to get a survivor to the 2nd hook stage. I’ll do it for the win.
No one should have to follow a fictional rule book.
I have like 3.7 hours of this game under my belt and like 3.2k of that is killer. You do not need to tunnel or camp at high mmr. YOU have to tunnel and camp because you relied on it to win, artificially boosting your mmr to a point well beyond your skill set. Take the loss, let your mmr drop to your natural skill level.
you know how you said "im gonna do everything i can to win" then listed toxic behaviors? Yeah well….survivors have that same right as you to win and play dirty to do so.
You have the right to win, but so do others. You are entitled to play how you like but you are not entitled to their suffering. Play in a self-centered way, expect the energy to come back in a way you dont like.
Every competition ever has unwritten rules for expected behavior while playing, DBD is no different.
I think you need to take a break from DBD and competitive games in general. This level of obsession over winning is unhealthy and a root cause in the toxicity within the community. You can lose and still have fun. The only issue is when winning and domination is not just a perquisite for fun, but literally the only requirement.
Winning is not everything, that is something we learn in pre-school. This hyper competitiveness is an issue and clearly causing you distress. Try to break away from it and enjoy the game for what it is and not because you won.
-
I will forever be against comp kids in DBD and in most games I play. Comp mentality is the death of laughter and casual enjoyment. The “winning is everything” and “I have to be the best” ruins the vibe for anyone who simply wants to have fun. It’s like being at karaoke bar with your friends but you got one guy screaming that you’re not hitting your notes. It takes away the ability to have fun by simply partaking in the activity.
You see it in the comp dbd community already. Taking “meta” builds and top player words as scripture rather than embracing their own play style. Parroting words and ideas like tunneling is the only way to win. It isn’t. You’re just so obsessed with the win that you can’t risk not winning.
-
It just kinda stinks playing survivor right now. A lot of the same killer over and over again (FNAF). A lot of super sweaty tunneling killers, the MMR is wacked out or something because I get BRAND new people on my squad. And the event just isn't very fun for survivor. Like on killer i can teleport hook and remote break pallets. as survivor i can… make a super fragile pretty pallet? I went to regular when i do survivor because the event is so frustrating as survivor, and event cakes work in that mode anyway on top of the already survivor bp bonus.
TLTR: This always happens with new killer release and event is buns for survivor -

Vibe with match means what sounds like - go with the match flow. Obviously if the Survivors are being sweaty or BMing, it feels bad, but by that same token, Killers performing toxic strategies also feels bad. You can't stop toxic players from being toxic, but what you can do is not let it get to you.
And no, this isn't a competitive game. There's a distinct difference between a competitive game and a PVP. A non-competitive PVP is one where winning, overall, doesn't actually matter. Yes, your goal is to win, and yes you should aim to get that win, but at the end of the day, the game is about having fun. That's what DBD is. A competitive game is one where there's an actual reason to win, and has a competitive mode, where your goal is to win to increase your rank for some kind of reward. DBD doesn't have a competitive mode, and the only reward for winning the match are Bloodpoints, which aren't that hard to get even in defeat.
You can play to win without being a tryhard. Let the atmosphere of the match determine your actions and mindset, not your want for a win. If the match is a standard match, where everyone is trying to win, then play it normally. If the match is more chill, be chill. If the Survivors are being sweaty, then you can be sweaty to. Regardless, don't go into the match with a competitive mindset.
And yes, you're right. No one likes to lose, but a loss only truly hurts if you take the game too seriously. With a competitive mindset, even wins feel empty because you didn't actually have fun.
you’re not gonna win with these people. They’re the type to throw the wiimote because they lost in Mario party. DBD is just one of those communities plagued by an imbalance of casual enjoyment and… that..

Remember the point in my original point about killers scoring higher on sadism and machiavellianism? Thanks for proving it right. Pretty much to the T my post.

"Hello, fellow killers. I'm here to tell you that the game is much more fun if you just let the survivors win all the time. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk."
Found the ego gamer
you don’t have to let them win to have fun though. And you can win but play in a manner that is fun for you and the others. We learned this skill in like….toddler years. Ya know…sportsmanship…”winning isn’t everything”….casual gameplay for the sake of playing not for dominating.
If you’re ego is so fragile that a primary source of validation is your performance in a video game…that’s an issue.
-
honestly. It’s the psychology of the different roles and the emphasis the individual player puts on winning.
Survivor: based on altruism and team mentality for the most part. You got social loafing and diffusion of responsibility, meaning responsibility is hated between 4 people. Survivor is about cohesion which creates bonding so people tend to joke more and goof off. Other people tend to buffer emotions. There is also partial success meaning they don’t need to escape to win or feel empowered (most survivors don’t care about escape just about having fun).
Tltr: survivors can take less responsibility and are more prone to taking the game less seriously. It is social and playful
killer: unlike survivor they barely the full responsibility for their failure, something ego does not like. The isolators “power-role” of killer also appeals to people who like feeling in control. This can lead to control-based aggression and hyper-focus. Think “I am the killer why are these survivors bullying ME!!!”. Also due to the power fantasy of being a killer when that happens it triggers even more frustration. They’re supposed to be in control but aren’t and the ego does not like that. Also people who tend to score higher in sadism, and machiavellianism in general.Killers would find less stress if they treated it as less of a “they’re my enemy and must be destroyed” and more of a “they’re my fellow players, let’s all have fun.” I got 4k (about) and have been a pretty dedicated killer main. The game became 1000 times more fun when i approached it less about winning and more about enjoyment. I like meme and jumpscare builds, they’re funny for everyone.
Tltr: isolation, performance pressure, ego based gameplay
-
I generally always let someone go but here are my self-rules.
- always let one go, unless they’re super sweating/annoying swf
- Each DC is +1 survivor out. So if one person DCs I usually let two go
- They’re funny
- They’re cute
- I like their vibe for whatever reason
- It’s an event and they played well. Basically if the whole team did super well and there are like 2 gens left but all are death hook, I sometimes let em farm and get out.
- They got royally screwed by their team mates. If a team mate body blocks or drops a pallet infront of them mid chase. I’ll usually look at em in disbelief, then go for the guy who screwed them.
-
all bubbles need to go. They’re a hindrance for both sides.
-
Thais community is notoriously getting toxic and getting worse as it becomes more competitive.
They can’t do anything about the steam profile thing but in game you can report and turn off chat all together.
The in game chat filter is absolutely buns and needs to go. We have killers that genuinely swear mid match and flip them off (chucky) but can’t say basic words. It’s silly.

i get A LOT

This is exactly my experience!!!! You nailed it when you said super high ping killers which I've been getting so much more often as well! What is that about? Literally 100+ and more ping killers and even sometimes survivors too, like all of us will have egregious ping levels. Like the servers are just screwed up. It makes the match even worse when it's already so many bad games in a row!
i get A LOT of VPN killers in my area (East Coast US), they're typically the super toxic ones. I find the best time to play if you want genuinely enjoyable non sweaty non toxic games….is to play before like 5pm. After that it gets really miserable. I dont even bother playi8ng weekends anymore because its so awful.
-
If you slug/tunnel/and camp because you have to in order to win, then youre artificially boosting mmr which means youre punishing yourself in the long run.
So i would recommend you try a different build, you have a very basic "works for everyone" build but doesnt really increase spirits power. I mained spirit for a long time and here are my two builds i get good results with:
Build 1:
Undying
Devour Hope
Surge
Surveilance
Youre basically downing them so fast that they cant function. Even if youre losing at first the devour hope will change the tides quick
Build 2:
STBFL
Pop foes the weasel
Surge
Surveilance
STBFL is nice because i can catch of to them faster while using my power.
Build 3:
This is my balls to the wall build REALLY strong on Kaneki.
Friends till the end (aura and exposed)Lethal pursuer (aura and aura length)
BBQ and Chili (aura)
Hex: Blood favor (no pallets for you!)
Addons:
I pretty much stick with Rusty Flute and the Muddy sports day cap cuz i cant be bothered to read the other addons.
Explanation for some perks:You use it so yyou know its nice for slowdown without wasting time. With Surveilence and of the gens surge break will turn yellow the moment they start to fix it, allowing you to cut em off and find em. If the do it close to you while youre in chase, you can fake look away the phase to the gen. i get a lot of yoinks that way.
I basically prioritize her speed rather than gen slowdown and go full blitz making them feel too unsafe or pressured to even need dedicated gen perks -
Its the same issue with every event dead by daylight does, the players are just miserable people. I was doing killer but the Q times were so long I swapped to survior and holy cow. no wonder why the Q times are so long. It is absolutley miserbale being survivor in this event. Its not even the balance either, I just keep getting paired with the most toxic players imaginable. Most of my matches have resulted in me being slugged and/or humped. The team balancing has been god awful as well. Its like ive been getting hyper competitive killers with inexperienced survivors (i have high mmr for both sides). Like i feel like i can only enjoy this mode playing as killer because its the only way to have a chill goofy match. But when i first started the event I was looping for 5 gens, now its just super high ping killers BMing the whole time.
basically i think survivors dont really care about surviving and just want points (only reason why i play it), while the killers need the 4k or else they wont be allowed to eat dinner for the next week.
-
I just think they should because the moment this becomes widely known as a comp esports game it’ll be flooded with cheaters and people whose only sense of validation is winning in a game. Comp is the death of laughter and casual enjoyment
-
my issues with springtrap are these:
1: the invisibility bug
2: springtrap looking in any direction but mine and hitting me with the axe anyway
3: the doors spawning literally ontop of the gens. At least alien is somewhat far a way and has a counter (turrets)
-
its literally the only time I play the game and enjoy it now, especially for survivors. The reason why 1v4 times take a hit is because most people enjoy 2v8 mode more than regular and they can play killer with friends. On 1v4 this is my average survivor experience. Load in. someone is tunneled. the remaining people are slugged. It is not fun. At least in 2v8 when Im slugged i can get myself up a bunch of times. Chases are funner. Dont have to worry as much about camping and tunneling. Its more casual and enjoyable.
-
Yeah this update is the biggest L behavior has taken. Like the bulk spending is nice and so its the chapter but everything else is not so great
-
yeah they really said "you know how legion is virtually universally despised and ruined the 2v8 vibe? what if we complimented that with oni so instead of mending simulator, they ALSO get to be slugged a bunch of times". next theyre gonna do the twins so we really never get to do anything besides lay down

My friend refuses to try this game thanks to its heavy DLC locked content.
yeah, I used to argue that this game wasn’t pay to win. But at this point it is very much pay to win. Hopefully they do something by the time fnaf cones around to make life a lil easier for the new players
-
I try to get a few of my friends to play. But they refuse because of how unfriendly the game is to new players. There needs to be an update for the shrine of secrets and something to make new players more welcome in general
-
just moonwalk to them and smack em. Half the time they leave as you get closer anyway. Yeah bagging is toxic but it’s countered by just not looking at it.
-
If the memorial hospital map isn’t so good for him because of the short and tight turns which limit his mobility. He thrives in big open maps with meaningless clutter he can use to travel with
-
I never escape. I joke about how the escape or end game challenges are the impossible challenges and just save them for 2v8. I haven’t played survivor in awhile though because every match was just super sweaty killers with a tunneling fixation.
-
American servers are pretty competitive, mostly from the killers side of things. As survivor, they are far more likely to goof off and play for humor and jokes rather than the win. Killers can be pretty chill but I have not seen one in ages. As killer I pretty much just play for the memes and jumpscares without any concern for winning.
However there has been a shift in player mentality lately, and one that is definitely more negative. The “us vs them” mentality and focus on comp style gameplay has been becoming more common. More survivors are playing only for the win and more killers are playing only for the win. But they do this in a sort of “I’m not playing for fun, I’m playing to punish you” mentality.
I can’t comment so much on the differences in comp styles as I have no interest in it. I think the hyper competitive mentality is the death of casual enjoyment and laughter. To me it facilitates the sense that winning is everything and the only way to have fun is to win.
I have heard Asian servers have use the perk “self care” a lot where as here in NA, we generally see it as a waste of time and more harmful due to how slow it is.
What is the meta over there so we can better compare?
-
I was actually thinking similarly to this the other day.
the bubble is inherently annoying for both killer and survivor as it hard counters aura perks.I also thought it would be cool to have a perk that delays the unhook notification and portrait change for several seconds. Allowing for an escape or more progress towards a heal.
Honestly I think the unhook noise notification should be removed in general. Make them at least have to pay a little more attention to get the tunnel
-
I agree that tunneling has become a massive problem, even more so with kaneki. The last few days I found myself having to strictly run anti-tunnel perks because it’s been so bad. I get dead hard, off the record, and DS off every match.
Honestly I stopped playing survivor all together. The one person I know who still plays invited me but I find myself denying every request because it’s been so miserable. I stomached two matches as survivor the past week and was quickly reminded me why I stopped playing survivor.
I will say the tunneling is a lot less and the overall mood of matches is better if you play during school hours. But that’s pretty hard since jobs exist.
-
also dead hard. Forgot to put that in there
-
Honestly if his tentacles (power) didnt hit from behind the wall or when you drop down an entire floor from a window vault and STILL get hit, he would be fine. His power has worse hitboxes then huntress and it makes it very unfun to deal with. Bro wont even be on screen because there is a wall there and yet i still take damage or deal damage
-
Experience as: "YEAH IM SPIDERMAN!!! im zoomin! wait…that hit?" i then proceed to win
Experience against: "HOW DID THAT COUNT AS A HIT!!!?" and also The hardest tunneling i have ever seen in the 8 years I have played this game. I had to take off perks I enjoy running just to run anti-tunnel perks. I regularly get my DS, off the record, and dead hard off in every match. Between the absolute misery of being hard tunneled every game, and the fact that it is only ever this killer right now. I have sworn off DBD as survivor and playing the ghoul to give people a break. i will play during the blood moon event for the cosmetics, but once those are done im gonna avoid DBD for at least a month.
-
Its a combination of two things.
The first being the gerneral consequence of a killer only chapter. New mechanics of an extremely popular character outside of DBD. People are flooding to play it
The second is survivors are taking a break from the game in large numbers. This is, in my case and others, because of the near constant games of back to back ghoul matches, coupled with the absurdly high rate of tunneling and slugging utilized to get the merciless achievement and the "Its a valid strat" people. It just isnt fun and so many like me, are taking a break until the hype dies down. You will see a decrease during the blood moon event.
TLTR: People wanna play as Kaneki, survivors are tired of kaneki and the hard tunneling
-
I generally swap the killer I main every two to three months. It gets stale playing the same thing over and over again. I usually just go down the roster and choose who I think would be fun.
Now there are killers I used to love but now refuse to play, not because they’re bad but people I associate them with negativity. I used to love clown but stopped because every clown ever camps me or hard tunnels. I refuse to play huntress because of her BS hitboxes. Legion I used to play a lot when the hunk skin released but they’re the most annoying killer to go against so I don’t play them to spare survivor the headache. Chucky I also LOVED to play on release, but chucky’s are notoriously never far from the hook and I don’t wanna associate with that stereotype lol.
The two longest steaks of being a main was with ghostface and spirit. Now I just play spirit when I’m crabby and need a quick win for a challenge or something. I just played her too much and lost the spark. Ghostface I still play a lot because of my jumpscare build but that’s gonna end once the new bs map offerings update hits.
-
I absolutely agree about the challenges. I’ve made several posts about the disproportionately harder survivor challenges. At least as killer you can be friendly and the survivors will generally let you do ur thing. As survivor you can be chill, change ur name to the challenge, etc and still be hard pressed to get it. The endgame unhook actually took me way longer than the “escape without being downed with spine chill” challenge from tome 1. It’s so incredibly luck based. You have to be lucky for several to survive at that point. Get lucky one gets downed and hooked who isn’t death hook rather than slugged. Get the gate popped and then get lucky that some other team mate didn’t rush the unhook. I hate it so much and I will forever complain about that challenge.
I recently finished every challenge in the game and here is my number 1 tip:
Save the BS grinding and luck based ones for 2v8. Focus entirely on the challenges that require specific perks. I did my iridescent unbroken in 2v8, the “survive while x amount of ppl escape”, and virtually every pain in the ass challenge that didn’t require perks. It’s 1000 times easier in that mode since there is no RNG and it’s casual. The end game unhooks are way better too as ppl generally rush the gate and pop it since no blood warden and you don’t have to worry about camping or NOED.
my number 2 tip:Just throw. I have this compulsive obsession with completion so I get the need to get them done. Gotta pallet stun the killer x amount of times in a match? Just chill under a pallet and trade. Gotta get those end game saves? Well if you’re lucky enough to survive and have someone on hook by then, pop that gate and take the hook swap. You’ll die but get it done.
-
I think it should it just needs to randomize items and offerings so people don’t bring things to compensate. Constant iri addons and what not in that mode
-
I’ve played since 2017. I just flat out refuse to play survivor unless I’m memeing with friends, but even they don’t play often any more due to the tunneling. It’s almost a requirement to run anti-tunnel perks now. Or as survivor I run builds I know will get me tunneled or killed off early but it’s funny. I like the illusion and blast mine combo with head on. I like to run all chest perks and collect as many items as possible. I do what makes me laugh not what makes me survive. I treat winning as a bonus rather than the goal.
I primarily just play killer and strictly use jump scare and funny builds. I like to run full aura ghostface on rpd and spook em. Or really any other funny build I can think of, like backpack trapper.
-
it’s becoming a stereotype that people with several of the LGBTQ+ type flags will play in a toxic or unfun manner. Usually tunneling as killer or playing selfishly as survivor. Because it has become a stereotype, it becomes the target of hate. Essentially they view the flags not as a symbol of inclusion but as a symbol of toxic or sweaty gameplay. Your actions they accused you of affirmed the bias and stereotype adding fuel to their fire of hate. A sort of “I told you so” that is similar to the “like a moth to a flame” or “well well well” comments you see on social media about minorities.
as for what it accomplishes…it’s about ego. Say what ya will about Freud but he was right about the human need to preserve ego. People want to be in the right, they want to feel justified, and want to belittle what they don’t like for a sense of superiority. We all do it, some people are just more rude about it than others. Going off on you and being mean makes them feel better about themselves and feel better by upsetting you. That being said, I’m on your side about the whole thing. I can hear fine but even then I cannot hear gens or others because of the chase music being so damn loud. Chaos shuffle seems to attract the most toxic members of the community in my experience and I avoid it at all costs. DBD in general has been getting increasingly toxic, so it may be a good idea to turn off post game chat.
-
My advice: just run the silly perks and if you lose then so be it. Your mmr will drop to a point where you dont need to run stacked gen regression. You dont get anything for high mmr, no one can see your mmr, the only thing holding it up is pride. Winning is not necessary to have fun.
