Giving everyone the ability to get up thanks to basekit unbreakable doesn’t require any skill, that’s simply the game allowing you to do something. In contrast, a flash light save provides a thrill because it requires precision and timing. Instead of completely preventing slugging by forcing a new mechanic, I suggest making it easier for survivors themselves to counter slugging. If successfully done, this makes the game much more thrilling and enjoyable. If a slugged survivor team is able to skillfully recover and escape, the killer won’t be able to blame BHVR for implementing a “stupid mechanic” and instead will have to acknowledge the survivor’s skills.
Proposed solution:
Allow survivors to crawl faster when in the dying state.
Allow survivors to heal at normal or reduced speed WHILE crawling.
Thats literally just tenacity and doesnt help much with the slugging issue
-
Events are notoriously toxic in this game for whatever reason. I generally avoid them at all costs. Normal hasnt been any better tbh. I just had a cannibal slug every survivor until bleed out. the very next match I had a killer using a VPN from khazakstan that tunneled me for five gens. Dude only got two hooks because he was so focused on me.
as survivor you HAVE to run anti-slug and anti-tunnel perks, like there is no other choice
-
I havent spent BP in forever because of how tedious it is. My friend has 6 million BP because they do rift challenges but cant be bothered to spend 15 minutes cycling through blood webs
it is absolutely needed
-
TLOU chapter would be cool af and so would pennywise. That being said steven king is kind of a jerk about allowing ppl to use his works. Also I have no idea what Jasons power would even be…hes just kind of a really big dude with insane pain tolerance.

Yes but slugging by default is already strong than hooking, and with the right perks and add-ons it becomes even stronger. Its a much better slowdown forcing survivors to find and heal teammates than hooking them
Again, that is totally subjective and the same argument could be made in favor of playing the game the way it was intended. Resorting to desperate tactics is in of itself a skill issue and a consequence of being well out of your MMR. It is unfortunate that people are so desperate for self validation that they resort to toxic tactics in an online video game just because winning means that much to them.

It is stronger
Just equip Knock Out, Infectious Fright, Sloppy Butcher, some chase perks for a quick down such as Enduring/Spirit Fury
You can trade Sloppy Butcher with mangled add-ons depending on the killerI could argue the same thing but swap the slug perks with hook perks. not a good argument. it is unnecessary and is causing a flood of toxicity and worsening the us vs them mentality.

Because slugging is stronger than hooking
slugging is not stronger than hooking, that is just something those who slug repeat because it validates that behavior.if it really is stronger and If you are in a situation where you genuinely feel that slugging is the only way for you to win.. you are out of your skill set. MMR is there to match based on natural skill not cheesy desperate tactics.
-
It has always been incredibly easy to get to 1 as killer, at least in my experience. It is a misery as survivor, not only because the horribly graded emblems but because the MMR system is trash and the teams you get often make it worse for you. The unbroken emblem is especially terrible for survivor, seeing how the only way to get iri is to never ever go down. Lightbringer is a pain too because of how many gens youd need to finish on your own.
-
Yeah I've been staying away from DBD myself lately. Especially survivor, not even gonna bother doing the survivor tome challenges because its so bad lately.
-
the first few tomes were impossible for survivor. kudos to anyone who has those done. I have every killer one done but cant get the OG survivor ones done.
For me the most irritating is the "perform x action x amount of times in a single match". like pallet stun the killer 4x in a single match. i think i got that done only because of 2v8. then there is the iridescent unbreakable emblem. like escaping is already rare…now i gotta do it without getting downed!? Also did that in 2v8 lol.

Rather than adding perks as baseline, it would be better to create larger incentives for killers to hook people. Currently doing so actively harms you against an SWF.
No it doesnt. that's just what people who slug repeat because it validates their claims. If you really feel that way then you're WAY out of your skill set.
but yes, they should punish killers for slugging for too long and increase reward for playing the game how it was intended.

people sleep on how many points you can get if you focus on snow-related stuff
they also sleep on how funny it is. I like to run tier 3 myers with a stealth build. then pop out of snowmen for the jump scare. and once the snowmen are paranoid…my stealth build comes into play. sooo funny. (I let them live if they show xmas spirit)
as survivor i like to pelt the killer snowballs during chase or on the other side of windows or pallets.

Agreed.
That's why dbd is not my main game anymore.yeah it aint my main game anymore either. I got bred of killer and survivor is just tunneling or slugging. neither of which are fun. i play during events or to get a dope rift cosmetic. Other than that…this game just doesnt have any room for people who just want to game for the sake of pure enjoyment and relaxation.
-
bro made a post about not tunneling…
RIP bro… you had a noble cause… but the casual "everyone should have fun" community has been replaced by the comp kids. They will never except your plea of mutual enjoyment.
-
Although i do like your idea and would be helpful if you wanna mimic someones build. I think ultimately a scoreboard would just inflame the superiority complex a lot of players have in this game.
Like i wanna support it but right now we already have a significant portion of players who think less than 1000 hours in DBD makes you a noob and use that to devalue their perspectives. Scoreboard would just inflate that ego. maybe leave out the points and status of each player so its just a look back on previous builds.

The last sentence was absolutely not necessary, shame on you for us vs. theming in a balance discussion to benefit both sides.
yeah it was uncalled for, youre right. I just lost my patience with all of the comments in every post just being passive aggressive, rude, people ignoring large swaths of discussions, or offering nothing to the discussions outside of being accusatory and meaningless. Thats all on me though, shouldnt take it out on the community cuz that just adds fuel to the fire.
-
The slugging is a huge issue. Your right that it would make victor kind of useless for people who play normally. What if instead of an instant down there was a time limit to get victor off before it downed the survivor. So they would take the initial damage and if pounced on again, they would be clawed at by victor and unless they get him off via help or ani in match item, they would go down.
-
@Crowman said:
You can say that you find current twins unfun, but I don't see how any of your suggestions actually make playing as Twins more fun.
I think an AI victor that scouts and I can also swap too would be really fun. But that is my opinion, and yours is the opposite. So what is your opinion on how to make them more fun for both? Try to come at it from an unbiased "killer main" mindset please.
-
I think the game is pretty well balanced in my opinion, and that the biggest problem in DBD is the community by far. The dedicated survivor mains and killer mains create a painfully unproductive bias for both sides. every update is "survivor sided game" or "killer sided game", like they both cant be true lmao. This tied to the rising competitive mindset and meta-slaves, is a recipe for a miserable time. People are so desperate to win that they employ the most toxic strategies to do so, as if their only sense of enjoyment and validity comes at the cost of sweeping the opposing side and making them want to uninstall. Were it not for the goofy survivor squads and the cute killers with personality, I would rank this community worse than LoL.
I wish there was a player rating system or separate queues to separate the comp kids and the people who just want to have fun.
I dont blame people for DCing as often i feel the desire too, especially when someone is being tunneled or ive been on the ground slugged for most of the match. Or when the killer is just trying to have a chill match but they're paired with swf bully squads or comp teams acting like its an Esports tournament.
I don't think someone should be forced to stay in a game that is making them miserable, I think the bots should just replace the person who quit and remove the DC penalty. Id rather a bot who will do gens, distract the killer, and break totems over someone who lets go on hook. If a killer wants to ruin somneones day by tunneling them out or making them unable to play by leaving them on the ground. Fine, they can do it with bots. Survivors aren't entitled to survive, but killers aren't entitled to their misery and vice versa.
TLTR: The issue is the sweats and comp kids
-
comments like this is why discussions never go anywhere. Add something meaningful or don't comment just for the sake of sarcasm and rudeness. I had several suggestions, if they are bad explain which one is bad, why they are bad, and how you would change them. You could add your idea for the twins as well.

so do you not view killers as part of the "everyone"
so Im just gonna quote you but refer to the others with a similar sentiment. IDK if you read my other posts but i openly state that playing the twins is also unfun. I repeat i openly said that playing the twins is unfun. I openly state that the twins should be reworked to be enjoyable for both sides. if i say that playing as the twins is also unfun…i think it should be clear that I am also requesting improvements for the ones that play them.
So let me reiterate. I say "twins are unfun" and I say "twins should be reworked for everyone". By that I mean the slugging that comes inherent with twins is an issue for both sides. An issue that can be addressed in a rework which has many different ideas and potential solutions.
Now people are stuck on the mending suggestion. I offered several other suggestions including a "literally anything" meaning i do not care about my idea or other ideas what i care about is finding one that suits everyone's needs. That being said. Simply saying "No" isnt offering any meat or feedback to how you would improve the twins so killers enjoy playing them and survivors aren't on the ground for 4 minutes. So unless you are here to offer a real suggestion, a way to improve the gameplay, or why you think the twins should stay exactly how they are. Dont comment. it adds literally nothing to discussion.

I don't want to hear any whining about toxicity when I've run into multiple SWFs recently that just hide in the basement on badham with 2x Unbreakable boons, Boil Over and Flip Flop and just try to run the game out as long as possible.
Your entire post can basically be summed up as "bE cReAtIvE kIlLeRs"
so because you experience one problematic motive of gameplay…means we cannot address other issues as well? There are posts about those behaviors. Ive made some myself as I was having alot of matches on crotus prenn where theyd were abusing the second floor.
The difference is….that is incredibly rare. slugging isnt. And yeah surviviors doing that is horrible and exploitative…and needs to be adressed too but that is a different topic and a different post.
see the thing is, we can be like "hey slugging is a problem and ruins fun. change it!" and we can also admit "hey these exploitative behaviors for survivors ruin the fun and should be changed". thats the magic of not having an us vs them mentality. we want the game to be fun for everyone.
slugging is extremely common right now.
-
They used to have offerings that let you play as the licensed offerings, but perkless. It was like a smoking splinter or something. IDK why they got rid of them

@Anti051 said:
The tactical strategy is to not activate any off-the-hook perks (which are so strong they can carry survivors through a match) and cook as much pressure as possible for as long as possible until your health bar is gone.
Hooking has become too punishing with the benefits and opportunities it provides to survivors. If all factors are considered, there is no logical reason for killers to play for hooks at the moment. This is a natural adaptation mostly in response to too much 'endurance' being added to the game.
Beating you is not "griefing" and using a perk wisely is not "abuse."
If killers are expected to play for hooks, then the process of hooking cannot be rife with detriment and more beneficial to the survivors than the killer in the long run.
This is just coping. If you need to rely on this as a means to win, you are out of your skillset. take the L and drop MMR. the survivor hook perks are NOT that strong and the most used ones deactivate if they do anything to progress the game. The killer hook perks are much more influential in the game than the survivor perks.
as killer the only time i slug and ever felt i needed to slug is if i down a survivor under a pallet and there is another survivor very clearly right there goin for the save. I have not had a survivor bleed out or even reach 3/4 bleed out in years of playing and i started in 2017. It is not necessary and it is a horrible way to play that is simultaneously breeding toxicity and worsening the "us vs them" mentality.
Not to mention it goes against the lore of the game as you're supposed to sacrifice the survivors to the entity no tleave em on the ground.
Bottom line. The mass slugging "tactical" argument is a consequence of being out of your skill set. It isnt necessary and does nothing but make the majority player base want to not play. which in a soley pvp game…ya kinda need the other 4/5 of the community to not quit in mass.

So it seems the offering didn't work or give bloodpoints accordingly, i dont know but there is a few things more idd like to see the Bone Chill Offering do.
- it should aura read the nearest snowball pile within 12m. I noticed I dont have much time to look for them.
- It should spawn more snowball piles.
- The bonus bloodpoint from Bone chill score events should stack with all players who bring the offering.
- It should increase the spawnrate of Snowmen who get in the way. so 5 offerings = Snowman pandemonium.
- allow us to carry more snowballs, 1 more per offering.
Anyway despite Houndmaster being blocked out of it rn, Im enjoying the event to the max, its actually really great.
I dont know if you intended the Event to be, grab a snowball or get blocked by a Snowman. but its fun.
EDIT: the Bone Chill event should have slightly limited max view range, obscured by a white fog in the distance.
1: that would be awesome i hate hunting for snowball piles when i get into a snowball fight
2: I agree! its snow! it should be everywhere! plus its not like the snowballs or snowmen change the game that much.
3: I dont care much for BP but this should make sense. after all youre spreading christmas cheer so it should let you spread out the BP!
4: I do think more snowmen would be good or at least increased spawn rate. its kinda boring when you get a lobby whose sole purpose in life is to destroy my frosted friends
5: I want all the snowballs!
I love the AI snowmen, the jumpscares and their utility for both sides. Ive made killer builds specifically to capitalize on jumping out of those bois for the jumpscare.
In general. Love the event. My only complaint are the ones without xmas spirit who ajoin it to be toxic and ruin it for everyone. I play killer in the bone chill event but survivor in 1v4, cuz oddly enough im experiencing less slugging and tunneling in 1v4 than the bone chill event

You know what people would say when you change them how you proposed? "Mending simulator, gens take too long, medkits are useless against her, she does too many things at the same time", I'm sorry but ether you'd have to change her completely or get used to it because your idea is simply horrible like this.
Besides that I played against them and I got slugged too but how many twins do you ever see? I saw maybe 3 in the last months lol, no one plays them because they are mostly horrible enough to play, they don't need to be even worse.
mending simulator is infinitely better than slugging simulator. at least after you mend you can play the game you paid money for. And i am not attached to my idea, that is why i said "or something", meaning i am open to whatever idea there is to make the game more enjoyable for EVERYONE. I really don't understand this communities aversion to mutual enjoyment and healthy change. "I suffer therefore you must suffer". or ya know, make changes as needed to promote entertainment as well as a healthy community and if a killer is lacking after said changes…give them a buff. You could make victor pounce further or faster. make it so survivors cant hold him hostage. you could add AI to victor so when you're not controlling him he can scout survivors for ya. There are options outside of "slug. tis the only way".

So making an interessting killer a slightly better version of legion that is horrible on himself is a good idea for you? Don't we have enough killers that are worthless to play?
Making a game that is fun for EVERYONE is objectively a good idea. I challenge you to enjoy survivor, when the only thing you can do is crawl. you can try it out as killer even, if victor gets crushed by a survivor, you are now not allowed to do anythign besideswalk incredibly slowly. set a timer. EVERY single killer has had aspects about them updated and changed to make matches more fun for each player, it isn't the end of the world. And i also said DEBUFF the survivors upon hitting them. make gens hella slow, healing hella slow, etc. there are so many options outside of "bleed out for four minutes".
and i was using legion as an example because they also can injure multiple survivors extremely quickly. like victor. Would you like me to use other killer that also have a mend mechanic as well?
-
forcing the survivors to mend and debuff them is useless? already better than the legion like that
-
This was also an issue i had. I did both the sprint and dismantle option. Took several rounds and several attempts for it to finally register as complete.
-
Pretty sure a lot do it to drop MMR so they can stomp on less skilled players.

For survivor:
Slugging and Tunneling. Its been so bad several of my friends stopped playing DBD in general and I stopped playing survivor.
MMR: I either get the most brain dead team ever or a killer LEAGUES above my skill set and my teams.
BMing: I cant tell you how often this happens to me. Smacking on hook repeatedly, getting dry humped, etc. Like why?
For killer:
Gen speeds: if you geta team hell bent on gen rushing. The casual vibe i try to bring is just kinda dookied on.
In General:
Honestly i think the game is pretty well balanced outside of the garbage MMR system. The main issue is the player-base. Its been taken over by extremely sweaty Esports meta-slave mentality people, whose only sense of fun and validation comes form a 4k or making the killer as miserable as possible. DBD lost its casual appeal, I wish there were separate lobbies for those who are competitively obsessed so the meme lords and chill people can have their fun too.
-
if they go afk and do nothing, they can actually get nailed with the DC penalty even if theyre there the whole match.

yes it does, and i don't argue that. however, at the start of the slugging meta the rate of players leaving as accelerated and the wave is less pronounced with a smaller cleft. Relative to previous years this variation is worse and with a steeper drop off. not saying the game is dead or dieing im saying the recent behavior and metas of the game are causing problems with player retention.

Im really hoping they do something about it. The only people who complain are die hard killer mains that rely on it. The point is….this is not an Esports game, its a casual game.
the game is PvP, meaning it's competitive by nature. Having a competitive game doesn't necessarily mean it's an esports game.
And another problem is: you have killers that literally rely on slugging (Oni, Twins, Plague etc.) meaning doing something that will nerf slugging will have a significant impact on them.
The issue is that poor sportsmanship and the desperate desire to 4k is causing 4/5 (4 survivors and 1 killer) of the community to have no fun and stop playing the game. Just look at the steam charts, June 24th 2024 had 99k players. December 16th 2024 had 36k players. The player base on steam has plummeted by well over half, and a big reason is the issue with slugging and tunneling. I know at least 8 people who stopped playing because these behaviors have been so rampant and has ruined their fun. Hell, I have stopped playing survivor because every match me or someone else is on the ground. Yes, slugging is a viable strategy but youll have to wait incredible amounts of time to slug bots because the behavior is killing the game.
playerbase is fluctuating over time, comparing active players at two timestamps of a year is not really a reliable way to look at this.
Plus, many players just have plain burnout from playing this game way too much.
Yes, there are perks to aid slugging. But the thing is, players shouldn't need to run a full build to counter the slugging and tunneling epidemic just to enjoy a game.
you don't need a full build to counter slugging and tunneling, basic macro sense plays much bigger role than any anti-slugging or anti-tunneling build will.
NOTE: I know this post is gonna stir up some rude comments. So just know I'm not a survivor main, I generally hate playing survivor. I primarily play killer and I don't slug or tunnel for the 4k. When I do play, the anger does not come from losing, it is expected as that is the way it is balanced. The anger comes from desperate tactics that ruin the fun, if a killer plays well and fair i often let them kill me.
every meta strategy is unfun when your team fails to counterplay it.
See this is the issue. The killer mains argue the necessity of it to facilitate their competitive obsessiveness. slugging is not necessity to 4k or to win. I do it literally all the time without it. Furthermore every competitive game in history has mad rules to make the game fair and enjoyable for both sides. You could argue that hitting below the belt is a viable tactic in a fight, and yet it is banned. This game has always been balanced around with a focus on entertainment and fun. Unfortunately for the competitively obsessed, not everyone is playing like its an esports match, in fact most of the player base are casual players. I GUARENTEE that if survivors had a meta that completley annihilated your fun and ability to play, you would argue for addressing that. Take the survivor second chance metas, those were viable strategies for winning but ruined the fun and so were changed to make it no longer and issue. This happened very recently with FTP and buckle up. it was an issue and ruined the fun for killers and so it was changed. Slugging is doing to the same for survivors and so it needs adressed. Just because its viable to your victory doesnt mean it is healthy for the game as a whole
-
Im really hoping they do something about it. The only people who complain are die hard killer mains that rely on it. The point is….this is not an Esports game, its a casual game. If a behavior or mechanic is ruining the experience for other players, it needs to be addressed for the sake of the community. And no, it isnt a bhvr loves survivor main things. They have removed plenty of things survivors used to ruin the experience for killers. Just look at the history of flashlights throughout the game. They have buffed and added plenty of things for killer as well.

Believe it or not - there might be some Houndmaster players out there who'd like to level her up - while playing her. And having to wait an eternity for a match and then just getting the minimum amount is just horrendous! Also considering the upcoming Bloodhunt..
Is there a possibility to at least do this..?
Give survivor a try or use the mistletoe offerings.
-
I just had a singularity run a full slugging build with slugging addons. Not a single hook. just slugged and BMd us on the ground. two people bled out, one was moried after being humped for several minutes and the other got out via gate. this was in the christmas game mode.
-
Cam to post a discussion of a similar tone. It is a christmas event. there are snowballs and snowmen. It is meant to have relax and have fun, to goof off. Yet so many are treating this no different than regular 1v4. had three tunneling matches in a row then a slugging/camping huntress.
Like why are people joining the xmas event just to sweat and not actually use anything that the event adds in. Like i have yet to have a killer throw a single snowball or use a snowman. they dont even check em! its just so pathetic to me that people only have fun under the condition that they win.
Meanwhile as killer i play as santa clown and only go after the survivors who have no xmas spirit. then i have snowball fights and make snowmen with the ones that do.
-

Imo it would grant the survivors too much control over the killers objective regardless of its strength
I really dont understand this argument. using it twice would just mean that person is dead on hook. Plus you can see who used it. in my experience a yellow tally mark appears on their name even when im killer.
-
i feel you dude. I played a few as survivor and its just more tunneling and slugging. Meanwhile when im killer i play as santa clown and try to initiate snowball fights and reward those with the xmas spirit…but punish those who dont.
if winning is that important, just stick to regular 1v4. I feel like the "Comp" kid mindset genuinely ruins games and turns it into a sweat fest where people are heavily biased. They have 0 ability to chill out

Slugging for the 4k has always existed and yes it's because of hatch and certain challenges requiring a 4k, i doubt that killers slug for the 4k to see the a mori they probably have seen like a thousand times already. The really big issue here why killers are slugging more is that it actually benefits the killer more than it punishes them such as wasting time picking a survivor and getting the survivor to a hook (especially to a scourge hook that's far away) + it leaves you vulnerable to flashlight saves, pallet saves and numerous perks that activate when you hook someone.
There are VERY few challenges that require a 4k. Not nearly enough to make that the reason for the rampant slugging in almost every match.
Flashlights are also not a good argument as according to the official DBD stats released on OCT 29, there are 0.22 saves per match and an average of 1.44 blinds. I don't think that is anywhere near enough for people to use flashlights as an excuse to slug. Only when there are survivors rushing around you for the save I understand, but this is more or less about slugging despite that threat being absent.
"perks that activate when you hook somebody". Killers have way more of these perks and are arguably stronger and far more meta. According to DBD besides Decisive strike there isn't a single survivor hook perk that is within the top ten used perks in the game. Even then Decisive is strictly an anti-tunnel perk, that deactivates if they do anything. This is not true for the killer stats as half of the most common perks are hook related. So killers get more of a power boost from not slugging than slugging. Slugging is a placebo fueled by anxiety and promotes an unhealthy community.
Killers with this mentality seem to play defensively against a strategy or outcomes they're unlikely to see. Its anxiety being an excuse for ruining others experience.

This is actually a solid argument. A free perk should not require RNG luck in the shrine or several dollars to counter it, and not even fully counter it. I mean it does what? 20% faster cleanse when the new thrill is over twice that amount.

I would love to have cross-platform turned off, as most of the tunnelers and toxic survivors i encounter are non-steam players. Unfortunately the queue times are worse than peak 2v8.

I think it depends entirely on the killer tbh. Hillbilly is much worse on midwitch than he is on coldwind farm imo. Stealth killers are also way worse at open maps than indoor maps.
