  • Losing feels awful for a lot of people regardless of the role they play. Some people feel awful if tunneled out in 2 minutes, some people feel awful if camped by an standing still killer, some people feel awful if genrushed, some people feel awful if slugged some people feel awful fooooor.... It's a problem of the mentality of the players at this point and them not knowing how to handle playing an asymmetrical game and just being obsessive with winning when in this game you will have a lot of things against you that are out of your control (basically anything that involves RNG). Just lose from time to time, trust nobody will fire you from any job for losing some games of Dead By Daylight.

What you can point out though is having means to end unfun games for yourself at some extent. For example, having a forfeit system or something like that at some point during matches, etc. Dead by Daylight just like basically any asymmetrical game is not a game where you are supposed to win every single match and there are matches that are supposed to be tough and others you will just simply lose but still have a chance to get some things going for you and make the best out of it. It's really not that deep, and once you realize this your mentality and view of the game will possibly change. Losing in this game should never make you feel awful, but being forced to be in a game for an over extended amount of time and you see the game not progressing and you feel you have no power to do anything against that. I agree quick matches are the best matches winning or losing, nobody wants to be in a 30 minutes game of Dead By Daylight.

Just try to have the best fun you can and don't let the game get to you that much.

  • Let them cook... That RE4R collection is coming at some point in the near future I hope

People have friends. No reason to play online-games if you get punished for playing with your friends and keep getting lobby-dodged because of a "potential" thing that might happen.

Where do you stop with this logic? Let's show Survivors the Killer because they want to avoid Blights and Nurses or show the perks of Survivors to Killer so they can avoid certain perks. Hell let's share our friends lists and addresses too. This comes across very entitled and non-sensical. Why do y'all want everything to be handed to you? Just play the darn game, the outcome won't change if you don't suck. If you're good you can win. If you lose, maybe stop blaming everything else but yourself for your loss and practice more.

This suggestion would just be a tool that would be used to lobby-dodge. Period. That's all I'm going to say.

Pretty much this. I’ll add that sometimes the results of games are not that much one one’s self but there are plenty of factors out of control (maps, RNGs for loops and gens yada yada yada) but that’s just another topic.

Long story short… The less shared information before matches, the healthier the game will feel and issues will get properly addressed since all people will know about the other players comes through pure gameplay and not because of external factors. This will help the community to point out problems or unhealthy practices and features from matches and devs will have it easier to work on solutions as well.

Indeed, prestige is not directly tied to a player's skill. Actually, I completely agree with that opinion.

I've said this on other topics as well, just on an individual basis.

So why did you agree to hide prestige?

You should have said there's no need to hide it if there's no meaning to it.

This is a very strange sight.

There is need to hide it because people have a misconception of it and have turned it into a tool for HARASSMENT + it completely defeats the matchmaking of the game since if people choose to dodge lobbies based on the prestige level of their team mates or oponents, the matchmaking gets altered because it's designed to favor queue times over MMR (rightfully, nobody wants 10 minutes queue times). I do not like being targeted for my prestige on my characters and I don't want others to feel like that in my games, being me a team mate or the killer. I do not want people to feel awful in a non-competitive and party oriented videogame, not that crazy right? I do not bother about prestige, but a big amount of people do and take it personal and use it as a tool for HARASSMENT in-game and out of the game, and that's where it gets serious.

Just because I see something as stupid doesn't mean it's stupid for everytbody, and those who don't see it stupid turn it into something harmful for others. If you don't understand that, that's on you. It's all about empathy :)

I read what you wrote several times and I still don't understand how any of what you said so far relates to what the discussion is about or how it's a counter-argument to what @adaw0ng has said...

Like this person is just saying anything and they're pushing the topic into a goddamn biased discussion trying to make it about survivors vs killers bias debate. Bless their heart also for the such optimistic take they have about the community, saying killers will play nice against baby survivors if they see low prestige... Like don't get me heated and started. Both sides have obnoxious players that will take any advantage against each other. Just remove overloaded information prior to the game and that's it, everybody goes into the match with their eyes closed.

Bro... Just play the damn game...

I understand your opinion. So let's answer what the killer would do in a world where things were implemented the way you wanted.

First of all, a murderer will never use a killer who has little chance of winning, even if it's just for fun.

This is because if you know that your opponent's prestige is low, you can afford to establish a match, but even if that is not the case, there is no point in using a weak killer if you have no choice but to accept.

Next, the killer will use add-ons liberally. In other words, only add-ons to make the killer even stronger.

Since you can't estimate your opponent's ability, there's no reason to cut corners here.

And of course, he don't compromise on the use of his offerings.

Stealth killers will always specify favorable maps and otherwise take Memento Mori wherever possible.

"If you do that, your BP will run out"?

Don't worry, Killer will now earn the missing BP by playing Survivor. It's much healthier than earning BP while stressing out with an unfavorable killer.

Killers aren't always trying to hunt down their opponents with all their might, just as you claim survivors aren't.

Sometimes you just want to play a trapper who sets traps in unexpected places and makes you laugh and ask, "Why is there a trap in such a place?"

The killer may decide to remove an addon because the opponent's prestige is too low, or change the perk to something more interesting based on the concept.

The world you want is one that deprives them of such opportunities.

I am going to be honest and I stopped reading after the first line since I don't like the spot you're taking this discussing to. You're assuming I only play survivor and I only talk from the survivor POV but jokes on you I enjoy my killer games more also ever since I got the test to not see prestige in lobbies. I play one side as much as I play the other and the lack of overloaded information helps your mindset tons in order to enjoy the game more. Killers don't need extra information the same way the survivors don't either, that's why they don't get it. Imagine if survivors could see what killer they're about to face let alone the prestige level. In your wildest dreams you'd think you'd get in a lobby playing Nurse over prestige 2.

Prestige does not equal skill AT ALL and have no connection whatsoever. Prestige does not need to be shown in pre-match lobbies to anybody, nor to your oponent nor to your team mates. Do your own thing and again, just play the damn game. Stop turning everything into a biased debate and be serious for 2 seconds. It's not that deep bro.

  • Most licensed characters cosmetics have to be linked due to the license agreement (I believe especially characters from videogames). Wesker's outfits have to be linked. They don't own the rights to make those characters customizable (only with christmas sweaters I believe? remember licensed characters have not even been able to get anniversary crowns years ago). You can discuss some original outfits that may not cause any clipping issues yet they're still a linked set, but licensed cosmetics it's perfectly understandable why they're almost always linked sets.

Let me confirm one thing with you.

Some people on the survivor side say that even the possession of items and prestige should be hidden from the killer.

If the management accepts such endless requests, the destination will be automatic matching.

If this were to happen, would you accept it?

If not, please tell me the reason.

Nobody should be able to see nobody else's prestige in a pre-match lobby. It's been proven that prestige affects both targetting and dodging lobbies, so there is really not a point in showing it since it affects the mindset of players prior to the match and for those who dodge lobbies that often, MMR and matchmaking gets affected. Stop being obsessed with overloaded information before matches and just play the damn game.

  • Map offerings are sometimes not with the purpose to bully others, but because some people play gimmicky builds that can only have the slightest chance of success on certain maps (Mirror addons on Myers, for example). It's a tough topic, honestly, since offerings in general are such an outdated thing and even they said in some recent AMA that they're looking into something to make offerings more appealing since now it's only bloodpoints one way or another, maps and that's pretty much all you see.

  • She never received a tome for herself before so it was about time she got it to expand her lore (which was needed, since it's pretty interesting actually and it's a shame people have such a wrong view of her character). So I don't think it's a problem she got a tome, she was meant to get it at some point like every other character.

And I don't think that commenting about leaks (upcpoming Halloween cosmetics) on an official forum is the smartest thing to do mate, just don't do that.

  • @bjorksnas said:

Just pair the update with a lobby dodge penalty so people actually play the matches they queue up for and it works fine, killers know to prep more against stronger teams for less frustration

The problem is that you will have people over prepping for those who are solo which will make solo experience worse. It's like saying "oh, show what killer the survivors will face, so they can prep better in case it will be a Nurse/Blight" like if they were not going to over prepare if they see one of the weaker killers and "abuse" things they could not counter as well as another killer could.

Do you guys really not see how this community and in general the competitive mindset of people in gaming works? Like it's insane some people don't realize it yet.

If so, correct this habit by becoming a killer yourself.

Don't ask others to do what you can't or don't want to do.

And please think calmly about why you are being asked to use a bonfire looking simulator.

That's exactly because players like you never play kliller but demand to play survivor.

Why do you talk about playing killer like if it was the most oppressive experience anybody could have in their lives and you prejudice me and try to bet what I play in this videogame or not? Like what in the psycho analisis are you trying to pull off with that?

I play both killer and survivor, and I have fun with both, something you seem not to do and that sucks for you, but that's not a reason to try to ruin it for the rest (trying to make people who play with their friends get a worse experience that can tend to no lobbies for them). Think twice before talking, please.

  • Yes I'm so sure killer will be unplayable after this change. Like it has been said 50 times in the past year. Learn how to play and move on, it's really not that serious mate.

  • @Emeal said:

The only way bHVR SHOULD show SWF is on the post match screen, showing it before a match will just make Killers not pick a lobby with SWFs in it to gain advantage.

Once bHVR removes Prestige from the Lobby screen, Killers will have LESS reason to lobby dodge which should ensure quality.

Exactly. Like I don’t get the obsession and hyperfixation people have with wanting to know everything beforehand like if they didn’t know people will use it to harass or dodge directly. Give all that info later on if anything, never before. There is a reason why survivors don’t know beforehand the killer they face lol. Like no seriousness at all when people ask for all these pre-match information, you can tell they are so blinded by “I HAVE TO WIN I JUST HAVE TO!” mentality and they can’t think seriously for 2 seconds and see it would kill the game.

If you play killer, everything will be resolved.

If you don't, you're not doing anything to improve things, so don't ask existing killer players to do it.

Many who play Killer also play survivor, and even if SWF were made visible, they would accept it as survivor.

Those who know both survivors and killers agree that if that's what's needed, that's exactly what it should be.

Of course, the management's intention is to protect survivors, so they will no longer take measures that are disadvantageous to survivors, even if they are justified.

    So don't worry.

    What are you molding about…?

It will be used to dodge people for one reason or another. Horrible idea to add that. Queue times would take forever and lobby shopping pushed x1000. Big fat no.

  • They just said he is on the list for future nerfs soon, they didn't elaborate anything yet... Do you guys think any game plans regarding a balance aspect change takes 3 working days? Like be serious for 2 seconds please.

  • More like a QoD (Quality of Death) change for the game. They are trying to remove pre-match over information, why would they add this when we all know killers would use it as a "nope, dodging this. not playing against more than a 2man. i don't want to play these little toxic swfs they make me sick." Why would people get punished for playing with their friends? Like people just don't think about this when they suggest this kind of things or what? What game will ever succeed if you punish your players for playing with friends?

I really hope they never add that. Every match should be gone in fully blind, not even items should be shown in the lobby in my opinion to prevent people from dodging key users, killers dodging anything and everything, and so on.

  • AI in this game will never work properly and at this point you'd think people would have made peace with that. Nemesis zombies have plenty of flaws, Knight oompaloompas have plenty of flaws... It just will never work.

I agree! It can’t be worse than what it is now.

  • game favors whoever decides to sweat the most and play for 4000USD every match

  • @Zakon05 said:

I just want them to remove depipping across the board. I was just coming here to make a thread about it because I lost a pip due to my ally using Plot Twist right after being unhooked, which counted as an unsafe unhook, which meant my altruism medal was removed and I depipped.

The only way survivor is remotely fun to play at all is if you don't care about pipping. Trying to pip past gold is an exercise in incredible frustration as you depip from things outside of your control.

And it just shouldn't be that way. I really expect them to do something soon and they realize that solo players have it so rough to pip up and get points in general. I really don't care about the loss of bloodpoints in perks (WGLF, Prove, etc.), but scoring as survivor is painfully unmotivating at this point.

  • At this point the most punishing thing for killers they could do to making sure camping is not rewarding or at least the least rewarding possible after the self-unhook update is hook stages taking longer, or make them take longer and fill in the bar slower the more time the killer spends in the radious that is considered in the game to be facecamping with the upcoming update. Only that will actually make people feel like it's a waste of time since the hooks will not advance if the killer is close, plus the self unhook last second, and the rest of the team will have plenty of more time to do the gens. It's sad that perks like Deadlock which is such an interesting design is most of the times used with the purpose of make up for the time killer spend camping in some shape.

  • @CatnipLove said:

I wish there was a system to avoid de-pipping for both sides. Killers should avoid de-pipping if they get lots of hooks and survivors should avoid de-pipping if they are productive and work to keep their teammates alive.

That would be nice too, but at this point it's just not about de-pipping, especially as survivor where it's the hardest to pip up. I only care if I get tunnelled or not when I am trying to rank up in Iri ranks because it's painfully long and you need almost the horn of a unicorn and the blood of a virgin to pip up, especially in solo Q. I think less people would care if they get tunnelled if score was shared between survivors, that way it'd be like "okay, this game I have to be the one who gets chased" "well, this time I have to be the gen doer because we have an Iri addon Slinger camping from a far" yada yada yada. This way the camped survivor gets rewarded by the work of their team mates, and so do the people who will not be able to get chased because their only chance is to do gens. And so on if you get my point. And with the score being shared, it'd be simpler and less frustratin to pip and get bloodpoints like this.

This would be the most amazing improvement for survivor ever IMO, since it'd minimize frustrations big part of the community have and it takes away nothing from anybody.

  • @Chadku said:

How about making totems be hidden by breakable debris or pile of dirts?

10 places where debris spawns and by cleaning them (4s of cleaning) you can find out if there's a totem or nothing.

Totems surely need to be more hidden in most maps. Most of the spots are ass.

  • @Seraphor said:

I doubt this scenario has anything to do with bloodpoints. Most are aware that the best ways to score BP are through interacting with other players. Coop points, hook rescues, and chases are some of the highest scoring actions. You will score higher as a team player who died, than an immersed who escapes having done nothing of value.

So I'd say your idea of a bloodpoint incentive for teamwork already exists. In fact the current system is probably better than your suggestion, which would reward everyone equally, even when they do nothing. With this playerbase, that would lead to resentment and petty "I'm not doing anything that will get my ######### teammates more BP" attitudes.

This is more likely to do with recent challenges that involve; escaping through the hatch, and getting Iridescent unbroken emblems (cannot get injured at all).

I know, but there are plenty of players who don't know that and just want to escape because they think it's the best way to score.

My idea for bloodpoints incentive is for those who don't have a choice aka the one being tunnelled out for example, who can't do anything but get chased. A lot of people will not feel as bad about getting tunnelled out if at least they can get more bloodpoints from the things the whole team is doing, same as for those who just happen to have the choice to do gens and will not be able to take aggro.

In my opinion survivors should get team based score (bloodpoints and pips), will reduce a lot of frustrations since scoring and pipping up as survivor is a pain in the ass as it is now.

  • @Devil_hit11 said:

survivor mmr already goes up and down based off how much of the team escapes. sole survivor+wake up builds are product of survivor constantly d/c and getting improper matches with bots. too many 3vs1 matches. it is survivors way of giving up on the match and waiting for go next function.

As far as I am aware MMR for survivor works individually and it's your own MMR that goes up and down if you die or escape yourself. That's the big problem in my opinion. It's supposed to be a team oriented role, but in reality the score is individual.

  • @LapisInfernalis said:

There are challenges in the archive where you need to get hatch or 3 Unbroken Emblems.

What you describe is one way of doing that.

From my experience it's been a common practice before that challenge was available.

I think maybe a minor rework might be in order, but I'd hate to see the ai guards be removed from knight’s power since that's a big reason I love him so much in the first place. I think the small tweaks I proposed would do a lot for making him less controversial by making him better at doing things that are more interesting to play against so knight isn't punished for not playing in a way people find unfun

Will see, I really hope they do something with him at some point because sadly I find him rock bottom in terms of fun for both playing as him and against him. Most things in this game get problematic when something that had not the purpose to do what does, it's found to be extremely powerful in something that was not thought about (if that makes sense?). So they have to be really careful especially with Knight because of the AI issue.

  • I'm afraid they might not tweak him much because of how controversial of a character he will be again if he excels in something. Being an AI killer has always made people dislike him, feel boring to play against and most people don't find him interesting to play as either. At this point I'd expect him to get the Skull Merchant rework treatment at any point in the near future since his design is too flawed and how the AI works in general in this game is pretty questionable (they should have stopped once they released Nemesis and the zombies to this day don't work properly).

  • @totallynotamegmain said:

I legitimately don't think I've seen it as bad in the EU region. Since early August it's been lobby after lobby of cheater squads farming points off of people. The most common cases are speedhacking and lagswitching / rubberbanding.

As other people have said, movement speed server-validation is something that should have been implemented as early as possible. And we already know that a replay system is both possible and necessary at this point, no excuses after 7 years of development and the game functioning on Unreal.

Hope the team gets on the case like they did last year and they address this issue yet again before it becomes another big issue like it did before. If they leave it to grow history will repeat itself and more and more cheaters will abuse the holes and vulnerabilities in the game coding (or whatever it is and however it works).

Yep, at least now with the in-game feedback it’s more satisfying to see they get banned. On steam I check their profiles sometimes after that and it shows they got a ban on record the day the penalty was issued. Now it’s to hope they truly fix the new recent vulnerabilities these people find.

Fortunately, due to the population of killers and survivors, there aren't that many encounters with killer cheaters, and when you do encounter one, it's very easy to spot, so I think the only thing you can do is finish the match as soon as possible and report it.

That's exactly what I do and I'm stating what is going on with cheaters again, so means can be taken and the team can work harder on again stopping cheaters before the situation from last year repeats itself. I don't know what you are trying to do coming here to say that, like what's your point? We already report and get banned, but they keep creating more accounts because vulnerabilities are not fixed.

I really hope this is the only shape of oppression you get to experience in your life because what a happy life you must have. It's not a role thing, both roles BM each other, it's a player base mentality thing. Hope this helps you to stop feeling oppressed for playing one side or the other and you start looking at the problem as it being one concerning how the whole community behaves :)

  • We do not even know how the map will be like yet people are already whining about it. It could be just an Eyrie of Crows kind of rework, where the map is still one of survivors’ favorites. Please, learn to complain after actions are taken, not before.

During the pandemic I had... 2 cheaters in total. Maybe.

I was fine because they were targeting content creators and were more in the high MMR region when I was more in the mid (still am, because I don't sweat so much).

But now they seem to be just there.

Last year I literally had one every 3 games or so, during the time they could hold games hostage easier and stuff by making EGC not end until the server shut down itself in 2 hours. I think that now it's slowly growing again but I hope it does not get to the point from last year where I believe like 200,000 cheater accounts got banned. Lately I maybe meet a cheater (usually it's even the same ones with new accounts, since they promote the same cheat software websites in the chat later) maybe like once a day, or once every other day (I play average like 2 and a half hours or 3 hours a day).

  • @LapisInfernalis said:

It definitely increased. And even in one of the emails I got after sending a ticket was like "pls be patient, we have a lot of requests to take care of lately".

I noticed more people tp'ing around to get pallet saves or similar, people tp'ing me to the roof of a house when the killer is about to get me or speed hackers. And wall hackers are also a thing again, but it's harder to prove outside of tournaments.

It is definitely more than during the cheater pandemic a while ago.

From my experience it's getting common again, but definitely not as common as it used to be last year. Last year was just a ######### show, but maybe because I believe they added the prevention of people that get reported to not get in streamers lobbies... Could be that the reason why I don't see it as often when I watch content, and in my games it does happen often, but not AS often as last year. I really hope they are working on fixing the new vulnerabilities that are causing these many cheaters to return and they didn't think it was solved for good already.

Don't know about subtle, but met a couple of super speed hack people a week ago.

yep that's what i mean, it's people that don't even bother to hide their cheats and anybody can tell they're cheating

Survivors have no problem with it, so it will likely not be touched. Survivors have to be kept happy, Killers just have to show up to be punching bags.

Killer players my favorite marginal minority. Poor them, booting up the game to just suffer and feel constantly slapped in the face, spit on... Horrible horrible!

  • You calling the general survivor role “swf” is all I needed to know that you really don’t know anything since it’s been said fov slider is already coming.

  • I believe it will be solved when said update arrives. Saving the progress of cleansing totems if you leave the action will help even if the totem is in a really strong spot for the killer that they just want to camp. In return, cleansing totems could take a bit longer than they do now.

Wouldn't that mean you could place your hex totems next to a three gen? It could make camping your hex too easy.

3 gen is said to be reworked soon, so I think that would not matter. Also, I think that doing totems should keep the progress if you leave it very much like chests. This would prevent issues with over protection of totems!
