  • Pumpkinhead would be really funny. I also don't think Gremlins gets the motion it deserves. Before I would have written it off but now that we have Chucky I want my Stripe in DBD.

  • Heard about this today and guy sounds like an absolute weirdo. Like yes there's the racist aspect of this but in addition there's another part is the guy flat out admitted he hates male survivors. So they're racist and a gooner I guess? Absolute L for people who want Slender having this guy advocate for it.

I tested it just now bagged a Jason missing spear and I might as well taken a dump on his grandpappy's grave he hard tunneled me humping me for 4 full minute bleed out nodding along like he'd won something.

    So did everyone else escape?

  • I'm gonna be so for real if tbagging actually gets in a killers head they have the mental fortitude of a wet paper plate. Any experienced killer is just gonna eye roll and move on so I find claims of tbagging being a "strategy" extremely dubious.

  • Is slugging actually considered toxic? It's just a way to build pressure where as tbagging as zero in game value, I don't think they're actually comparable.

  • Will I attempt to learn counterplay on a newly released killer? No instead I will call for nerfs because I don't understand the counterplay and therefore Jason must be OP.

Before you get your pitchforks I haven't even bought Jason and played survivor against him all day yesterday and do I love playing against Jason? No, not particularly considering he makes games mega slow and he has similar counterplay to hag which I think is why most survivors are going to hate going against him but that doesn't mean he needs nerfs.

In chase you're just looping a fast huntress which isn't terribly difficult if you have experience trying to bait hatchets. As for mist form you just have to take your time against it and watch the grass to see if Jason is around like with Spirit.

I will say one issue that might require a change that I'm running into is the game stalemating really quickly against Jason because if he's in mist form and nobody is detectable he can just stay in there forever and then he won't leave it cuz he can't see anyone and no survivor is going to do anything cuz they don't wanna be found so everyone is just kinda sitting there. So the amount of time Jason can stay in mist form might have to get limited just so gameplay can actually happen.

  • He feels like playing against hag, games take so long when you have to crouch and not do anything to avoid tipping him off.

I feel Pig has major red flag potential. There are those, we shall not call them Pigs, but Swines, who pretend to be memesters, and use it murder people.

Coming across a Pig player these days feels like a game of Among Us. She could be an imposter.

I not all pigs wanna meme and going against hex pigs that just overload you with things to do can be rough but when your killer is kinda ahh in chase I get it.

  • I feel like if you did spectrum of red flag/green flag for killer mains Ghoul would be the tip of the red end and Pig at the tip of the green end. Pig mains always seem chill (except for the ones that just tunnel people with party hats but they're not that common).

  • BHVR can always fumble in a big way it's happened way too many times to ignore the possibility but assuming they for the most part pull all this off the DBD haters are indeed in shambles but I don't think that will stop them from coping about every single new horror asymm "killing DBD"

  • Don't bring up my GOAT in vain, this is just attention seeking while sluzzy was a true "us vs. them" warrior.

Also 10 million BP is pretty neat, I can't wait to get 20 million in another 10 years.

  • We already live in a world where every new killer is considered a knock off of some past killer and I feel like this would only make that worse.

  • I think they're heavily overrated, the haste on throttle is modest and finding an opportunity to actually vault a pallet in chase isn't as common as you think and I predict a lot of survivors trying to force the perk and going down because of it.

Lend a Hand you kinda have to measure the time it takes to activate vs how much time it's saving on heals, it's probably fine but nothing insane.

Cross Examination just needs a time nerf to about 2 seconds and it's fine and on a lot of the open maps it's gonna do less than people think

  • Springtrap, was hoping there would be more to do with cameras and the other animatronics would be involved somehow but nobody uses the camera or the office so it's just huntress with a way heavier axe.

Also the map just being Greenville with the pizza place being a tiny space in the middle was so disappointing.

I win a lot of my matches. I am just not having fun because much of the roster is pigeon holed into playing in a very specific way without making even a single mistake or they lose its exhausting. Meanwhile on survivor you don't have to try really. I think that's a bit of a problem. The role that people come to the game for doesn't feel fun even when you win because of how stressful it is.

Saying killer is the role people come to the game for is a little presumptuous. Survivor isn't challenging in the mechanical sense but it does require game sense and I guess I'll say puzzles solving skills that can be engaging in terms of chaining loops, knowing when to unhook, making sure you don't 3 gen yourself knowing specific killer counters, etc.

As for killers some of them are weaker sure but I'm actually going to say that's mostly because of map design. Play Ghost Face, Dredge, Trapper on a map like Midwich or Lery's and they're surprisingly fine if not good even. It's just most maps are so open a lot of things those killers need aren't really available to them a lot of the time (line of sight blockers, lockers, dark floors that make traps harder to see) so you're playing against the map as much if not more than the survivors. All this to say the community really should talk about maps more than they do.

Cross-Examination is interesting cuz it's actually borderline fine it's just the fact it lasts for 5 seconds after you leave the light marks that makes it a bit too strong, if it was 2 seconds I think it'd be fine. But I also don't get complaining about new strong survivor perks. Like WoO is "training wheels" (it's not but this post is already too long to go into that so I'll just mention maps are partially RNG) Exhaustion perks are crutches, complaints about DS, "Gen Rush" perks like Prove and Deja Vu I genuinely think some people think survivors just shouldn't have perks. You didn't say all that but I've seen people complain about every single half decent survivor perk at some point and it's silly.

But most of all calling this game VHS is just untrue considering killer used to be MUCH worse to play to the point survivor queues were getting to be minutes long because nobody wanted to play killer and then we got Dredge mid chapter (I think it was 6.4 but don't remember) where killers got massive buffs across the board and killers have continued to get tweaked since. I don't agree with everything BHVR does and they do make some truly ridiculous changes sometimes (see almost every time they touch clown or murdering Merchant on purpose) but I don't think BHVR can be accused of not listening.

  • I decided to go back and do the whole tier list and I know Jason isn't out yet that's why he's B in the middle just ignore him.

    download.png
  • I still see plenty of Blights and he still seems plenty strong.

  • Yeah I don't really get it, like the Slenderman movie was horrifically bad and that's probably the other option and not really sure why we'd want the one turning people into trees because....idk why he was doing that actually.

Marble Hornets established the Slenderman everyone knows and was a landmark of YouTube analog horror.

  • Hag mains that do more than trap basement 10 times over

Twins and Houndmaster mains sticking through all the bugs

Slinger and Unknown mains with good aim

Lich mains who understand all 4 abilities

Ceno mains that have mastered spawn logic

    Singularity mains

    Onryo mains

Actual Spirit mains that stuck with her after they toned her down

  • Silent Shadow might be better than Secret Project for Oni/Billy now so that's something.

  • Yeah true but Unknown has to hit someone 3 times and firing sometimes feels like spinning a roulette wheel as to where it's gonna land. Jason is closer to basically being 115 Huntress/Slinger.

hes not 115 hes 110 he has to use his teleport to get the speed. also spring trap is 115 when he throws his axe. i just dont think hes overpowered just a good solid sidegrade to spring trap.

You should always be using your teleport anyway and it lasts 20 seconds which is ages in a chase. It's not the same as springtrap because springtrap can't keep the axe and be 115 where as Jason can keep his hook projectile and still be 115 that is a massive difference.

  • I don't think he's too strong but calling the only 115 ranged killer in the game b tier is wild.

  • A lot less frustrating than what he was, I personally still don't like him and probably never will but I can admit he's in a reasonable spot now.

It's probably another Skull Merchant situation where even though he's been mostly balanced out the community at large will never stop hating him and calling him OP and this is why what happened with Skull Merchant set a terrible precedent because now we think we can just force killers we don't like into F tier if we complain enough.

  • It would be really funny if the survivor is the 2nd place survivor from the grimore. The design was clearly popular considering it won the first time around before the switch and BHVR said a lot of what lost wouldn't go to waste.

  • If a survivor is good at losing the killer in chase it's not their fault if the killer tunnels you it's yours for not similarly being good at losing chase.

Killers aren't losing to SWFs they're losing to good survivors playing together. You can beat bad SWFs and lose to great soloQ teams.

Similar note you can give soloQ all the information in the world and it won't matter to most players cuz they're not very good and don't know what to do with the information.

Jason being 4.4 is irrelevant because you should have haste 75% of the time and people complaining about that don't understand the killer power.

Onryo is still an A tier killer she just requires paying attention and reacting to a ridiculous amount of information to play that well.

People complain about Dash Slop and Projectile Slop but the last killer we got that wasn't that was Skull Merchant, let's be honest people want the safe predictable designs. Ain't nobody playing the unorthodox killers like Singularity, Hag and Twins.

Every killer should have a stealth aspect because this is a horror game and jump scares should be more prevalent.

  • we'll see, there's still quite a few dates circled before the anniversary stream and the main DBD account and Eric Pope are still posting cryptic tweets so BHVR haven't shown us their entire hand yet.

  • I think you're missing the strong part of SWF is the FRIENDS part. I have a feeling Survive With People that just scream slurs at you and will flame you if you do the slightest thing they don't like wouldn't work quite as well.

One thing I don't understand is the Springtrap comparisons. I know I'm not the only one who remembers when people comparing Springtrap to Huntress and Ghoul to Legion. And they all turned out to be completely different killers. Like can people wait until the characters are out before they start making these comps.

I thought it was silly before but now after playing him I think it's even sillier. The teleport feels way more like bat drac and the spear is more Huntress. Does not feel like Springtrap at all to me.

  • Usually 2 gen slowdown and sometimes 1 heal slowdown just because I usually play mid to low tier killers and game is miserable if you don't, like people will not chill just because you're Wraith giving them a break from their 47th blight/ghoul game and my MMR is too high to ever get chill games (not a brag I low key hate it).

  • Could be connecting the wrong dots but new survivor they won't reveal yet so possible OG wrestler survivor voiced by Rhea Ripley? I just don't get why they wouldn't just put them in the PTB otherwise? Unless it's a lore character like Vigo or Benedict Baker but idk how many people would even care about that.

Mmm I wouldn't really call springtraps axe grab command an advantage cause most of the time you don't really get it or it to work right and orbitals ain't a reliable method either it's better to use the axe like a regular projectile instead.

I will agree Jason mobility is closer to Spirits mobility and his jumpscare emergence is very strong and quick and has haste and that Jason zoning is very good but just like Springtraps ptb and launch zoning that's probably going to get nerfed.

However I think in terms of looping and chase Jason might be weaker compared to Spring traps because in loop if Jason misses a Spike he's just a regular 4.4 m1 killer and if there's no piles nearby he's gonna get bullied in that loop

While as Springtrap can keep using his axe and if he misses he gets to be 4.6 even more if you account foxy hook addon.

On the topic of looping it's interesting because if you miss you're at a disadvantage and that's even if you get a shot but what makes it not quite that straight forward is if you make them drop the pallets and have your teleport you can reset on the other side of the pallet, you break it automatically and grab the broken pallet bits for a new projectile and your back in business (I've heard broken pallets is one of the things you can use if this turns out to be wrong then nvm lol) so while Jason's looping doesn't seem strong at first I think his strength there is his ability to reset the situation fairly easily if he messes up.

  • Ideally you want to get the first hit with Charlotte and have Victor down them and work your way to everyone being injured and Victor getting a quick 3-4 man slug. If you do get the first hit with Victor the aura is there for a few seconds for you to predict the patching and cut them off with Charlotte. While the twins can operate independently you don't want them on opposite sides of the map most of the time. Keep Charlotte either in the middle of the map or on the same side as Victor in case you do need to act on a Victor grab. You can also block pallets and windows with Charlotte's body and then chase with Victor.

Also aiming tip with Victor his hands sort of make a crosshairs for you with his pointer fingers and thumbs. Keep the survivor in the center of those four points and you should always hit barring any collision nonsense from the map.

  • I've mentioned it previously but I don't think the comparison is very accurate but to go more in depth I think Jason is far stronger than Springtrap but advantages Springtrap does have is a command grab (in theory multiple but nobody goes into the office anymore) and the ability to do orbitals. Also Jason's stealth is way closer to Spirit's than Springtrap's. Not to mention Glitchtrap is probably way stealthier than Jason in terms of actually getting stealth hits.

Jason meanwhile has way better zoning and more consistent angles of approaching survivors and I'm gonna say better looping due to being able to teleport mid chase and being able to break pallets out of phase. Springtrap ideally wants to axe and grab before you get to a loop.

  • My guess is there's a map to be revealed since they said the cabin will return and I think they're gonna announce a survivor for the mid chapter either tomorrow or for the anniversary stream. I don't think they tag Rhea Ripley on Twitter for no reason and I think there's a good chance that's survivor related. A double chapter release with a survivor and killer would be an interesting way to handle it but I have a feeling we're gonna have to wait until the mid chapter which sucks for anyone who wants cakes on the new survivor cuz likely it'll be after anni is over.

I don't really get the springtrap comparison tbh. Springtrap is only teleporting next to gens otherwise he's Huntress with a 100lbs hatchet. Jason meanwhile can appear anywhere there's a pallet or window and can actually be used in chase so he's waaaay more dynamic with his teleport. As for the projectile it seems nowhere near as weighted as the fire ax and reload seems faster and the pinning mechanic will have niche applications in forcing people into dead zones on certain maps.

Jason is in the same killer archetype sure but they're absolutely not the same killer.

This seems to be what people are saying about being a powercrept version of Springtrap.

    He's got a projectile, but it's a little better.

    He's got a teleport, but it's a little better.

Will that pan out in the PTB and (more importantly the live release), I don't know. I'm sure the smaller differences will become important, but a first look at the killers just make Jason looks like a Springtrap with some of the downsides removed.

Yeah I just think that's a little silly, people do this every time a new killer releases including for springtrap. I remember when springtrap was revealed people just called him Huntress with an Onryo teleport. Like you can be reductive like that but there are people who choose to main Huntress, Onryo and Springtrap because there are actually meaningful differences between all three of those killers and Jason will be the same because there are very meaningful differences between Springtrap and Jason. People just choose to be reductive as a mental shortcut but that doesn't mean they're being accurate.

  • I don't really get the springtrap comparison tbh. Springtrap is only teleporting next to gens otherwise he's Huntress with a 100lbs hatchet. Jason is in the same killer archetype sure but they're absolutely not the same killer. As for Jason being judged on his own it's interesting cuz if Jason came 6 or 7 years ago people would be losing there minds over how cool he is and to me at least he really feels like early DBD killer in his simplicity while still being strong and that's great considering the world of power bloat we've fallen into recently. I think it's just a case of it being 10th anniversary and Jason does nothing to reinvent the wheel that's disappointing to people.

But to me Jason is the most DBD killer we've gotten in a very long time. No weird counter items no far out killer props just jump scares, a reasonable chase power and brutal mini moris that feels strong and I think that's all Jason needed to be, that's how you create a killer as popular as Huntress and Hillbilly.

Also side note I know a lot of people are worried he'll be overpowered but you know his ass is gonna struggle on Lery's and Hawkins lol.

  • I uninstalled atp, this was the tipping point to me.

Between nerfing SM into the ground on purpose for over a year possibly years

Suggesting players shouldn't know about the Killswitch

And now shutting down and being rude to both your guest and the person who is likely the top streamer who plays your game and has spent years helping the community during a complete disaster of a stream because BHVR doesn't take it's cyber security seriously

It's clear BHVR has zero respect for it's community and I'm not giving them one more cent or giving them one more minute of my time. These devs are way too arrogant for a game that has constant issues it's ridiculous.

  • That was just my sleep paralysis demon saying hi.

  • I look forward to new content tomorrow, besides that? Idk I suppose nothing in particular but I'm probably one of the few people on here that's generally pretty content with what we have now.

If all 4 survivors are god tier loopers but they die because they don't touch gens, that is completely on them. But I'm not sure they should lose MMR for that. Because it would lead to them playing against even worse killers in which case we would ruin one side's experience because the other doesn't try to win. That's how bully squads operate. They will die but their goal isn't to survive anyway. It's to make their opponent miserable.

Good point though because it is a potential issue indeed. If you can think of a solution I'd be very interested to hear that. Right now, I can't come up with one.

I think the solution could be rather simple, we could just tie MMR to emblems I mean not the totem part of lightbringer but everything else yes. Is the big picture objective focused person mostly doing gens or the altruistic person that mostly unhooks and/or heals their teammates the most mechanically skilled player in the world? No possibly not but you're gonna be real thankful to have them on your team if they're legitimately good at what they do just as those players should be thankful to have a skilled looper on their team to buy time for them while they do the objective or save teammates.

I don't think it matters what aspect of the game a survivor is good at as long as they're good at something and I think it avoids rewarding the hiding only teammates because I imagine they don't do much of anything concerning any aspect of the game. Even if you wanted to weigh the chase emblem slightly more than the others I think that's probably fine but I think any MMR system needs to reward multiple types of players so we're not only rewarding one specific skill set and suggesting the others don't matter.

To this end I think BHVR could try out letting survivors put symbols next to their names where they can tell people what they like to focus on is like the haste symbol for people that mostly like to loop, a gen for gen jockeys, and a medical cross for altruistic players. Now they don't have to do what the symbols suggest but it's a way of saying "hey I like to primarily focus on this". I think this could help people find more friends on DBD as well, like say you're a good looper but your teammates don't do gens, well if you get into a lobby with someone with the gen symbol by their name and they do do a good job it could be someone you wanna group up with for a few more games.

Idk that idea probably needs some work but I think it has merit. Although I do see the problem of "you have a gen symbol and then you mostly went for saves and healed" and the like coming up like people might take it too literally but it's worth testing.

I have not said that there is no skill involved in evading a killer. Of course this requires some skill as well. Just not a lot. It's like going for an unhook. It doesn't take a lot of skill but it does work towards helping your team. However a survivor that loops the killer for 5 minutes and then dies is a lot more skillful in that match than the guy that only repairs 1 gen and keeps on hiding for the rest of the game and escapes.

My goal is to balance this out. So that the overall strength of a solo queue team becomes more consistent. That means there shouldn't be 1 guy carrying everone else and 1 guy that barely contributes at all but 4 survivors that all carry their weight or at least try to do so.

Right but what if there's 4 people on a team that only loop and have no interest in doing gens? I can't tell you how many people I've heard or seen say "Only looping is fun I'm not touching a gen it's boring af" now those people may be very skillful loopers indeed that could all go on a minute plus chase but if everyone only wants to screw with the killer and not touch gens nobody is leaving. Or in another case there's nothing suggesting people who loop are particularly altruistic and they rush to unhook their teammates to avoid having them go second stage.

I'm not trying to be difficult or anything I'm just pointing out potential problems in only rewarding looping or rewarding looping more than anything else.

  • I feel like this is showing a lot people just play pig by trapping one survivor and than harassing them until they're tunneled out of the game.

Imagine Pig getting her chase buffed and then suggesting it's a nerf. Medical File + Workshop Grease about to go crazy.

EDIT: I'm thinking of Last Will not Workshop Grease lol although the grease isn't terrible.

  • @Xernoton said:

There should be a multiplyer for doing objectives and looping (the one for looping should be higher obviously because it's harder), which then is applied once the MMR gain is calculated. I'm not sure about the exact ratio (this would probably require a lot of fine tuning) though. I don't know how exactly MMR gain is calculated so I cannot possibly suggest an equation to determine how it should work.

The idea is to sort out players, that do not pull their weight. Meaning, if you do almost nothing but you still get out, then your MMR should not be raised. However, someone that performs well (long chases, a lot of progression) should not lose MMR, simply because of their team mates' bad perfomance.

Your example is actually not quite as divisive as you may think. Add up the progress that survivor A made for their team and you get 2.55 gens. This is quite close to 3 but it's clear that survivor A did more work, then survivor B because sitting on a gen takes no effort, so it should be considered less skillful than looping.

Do you think there's no skill in effectively evading the killer? And doing gens isn't complicated sure but is there no game sense involved in knowing what gens to work on and when? Is that not a form of game sense?

This seems like going down the rabbit hole I see most people go down with games in general where they don't see game sense as a skill and suggest only mechanical skill matters.

  • Honest question because I keep seeing people saying MMR should weigh things differently so let's take this example.

Survivor A loops the killer for 1.75 gens and does 0.8 gens and escapes

Survivor B take no chases and hides from the killer when they hear the terror radius but this allows them to do 3 gens and escape.

How do you think MMR should reward these two players?

Because according to how people seem to discuss these things I would assume people would says survivor A deserves more MMR for actually looping however Survivor B did more to advance the Survivors win condition of escaping. If one were to suggest Survivor A deserves a bigger MMR boost than survivor B that creates a game where doing gens doesn't matter and people are just all incentivized to run at the killer and start a chase with them to try and get a bigger MMR boost meaning people don't do gens meaning less people escape leading to I would argue an even worse soloQ experience than we have now.

  • I feel like suggesting running 3% faster is "fun" is uuuhhhh kind of a low bar. Are we asking for more meta perks or more fun perks?

Because I'd argue Champion of Light is fun for people that liked running flashlights and Background Player anyway, Nicholas Cage's perks are all pretty entertaining, Chem Trap is interesting and the idea is there it's just in practice it doesn't pan out the way you'd think.

If you're asking for more meta perks yeah I admit it's been a minute since we get a really good one that doesn't wind up getting nerfed but I get why it's hard to make meta perks for survivor cuz if you make one the killer has to face it 4 times at the same time most likely so I get it.

  • OP: Huntress severely struggles on indoor maps so the movement speed is a good change

Everyone else: Well they should just add more lockers then

I'm convinced people are incapable of reading and then having a conversation about anything, they just commit their talking points to memory and parrot them ad nauseum.

I think the movement speed is fine but I don't think she needs more hatchets the more I think about it, it makes dodging hatchets somewhat meaningless and takes some skill expression away from survivor. I think ditch the hatchet ammo buff and keep the other two buffs. I get some maps are lighter on lockers than other but you're free to run purple belt with these changes and not feel bad about not running babushka or whatever else.

  • I think all these changes were fine, although I don't think Pig's tap timer should be messed with. The box auras absolutely had to go though it made facing pig miserable if you got a trap you basically got constantly harassed if you got off the hook, she should be much more fun to face now especially now that ambush is (may be?) viable in loops. We'll have to see tomorrow.

1 … 4 5 6 7 8 … 38
